i feel like i need a glossary of terms or a contact list for all these people involved with the show. i have shit memory and dont pay attention to the credits who is sera (sara??) and why does everyone hate her!! why is he Bobo!!!!!! please... has anyone posted about this im desperate

lol well including everyone involved with the show would be difficult, but I’ll give you some highlights

Eric Kripke: creator of Supernatural, showrunner for seasons 1-5. People have differing opinions about him but general people enjoyed his run and he’s considered the best showrunner in the series overall. Not much to say because there’s a lot to say lmao (notable episodes: “Pilot,” “Lazarus Rising,” and “Swan Song”)

Sera Gamble: writer who was involved from the beginning of the show, became showrunner after Kripke left. Her seasons, 6 and 7, are typically regarded as the weakest seasons. She was a huge brothers-only supporter, and was responsible for Misha being written out of the show (as well as Jim Beaver, Bobby) in order to get the show to just be about the brothers again. There’s a lot of drama regarding her treatment of Misha/Cas, but more recently she’s known for the Magicians debacle, a horrendous example of the Bury Your Gays trope. She’s also involved with (the showrunner of?) You on Netflix. She was a pretty good writer, but overall fans dislike her because of her showrunning tenure (notable episodes: “Faith” with Raelle Tucker, “Death’s Door,” “The Born-Again Identity”)

Jeremy Carver: writer from season 3 that was promoted to showrunner from seasons 8 through.... some time in 12, the timeline has been a little murky to me. He was the one who brought Cas back into the main plot, as well as allowing the deancas storyline to become genuine subtext (we can argue whether it was queerbaiting or what he was intending to do if he had been running the series finale, but yeah). Unfortunately, he was also the showrunner when Charlie was killed off brutally, which dampens his legacy. People are conflicted about his seasons, but generally he’s looked upon favorably (not related, but the picture that comes up when you search him on google is NOT him, he’s really like a typical white nerdy looking dude lol) (notable episodes: “The Rapture,” “Sacrifice,” “Do You Believe in Miracles?”)

Andrew Dabb: writer from season 4, promoted to showrunner during season 12 and is the last showrunner of Supernatural (he wrote the finale). He was well-liked by deancas fans for awhile because of how much screentime they were allowed to give, and because of the focus on extended/found family. Sam and Dean only fans didn’t like him for the same reasons. Unfortunately, HIS legacy has been marred by the awful series finale, though it’s debated whether that was his fault or because of network meddling. (notable episodes: “Dark Side of the Moon” with Daniel Loflin, “The Prisoner,” “Moriah”)

Robert Singer: executive producer since the beginning of the show (he’s also co-showrunner throughout Supernatural, but I don’t think he typically was involved with the plotlines too often). He’s directed quite a few episodes, including the infamous wire fight episode (s13 finale) as well as the series finale. Married to Eugenie Ross-Leming, writer of the show

Eugenie Ross-Leming/Brad Buckner: writing partners TECHNICALLY from season 1, but they only wrote one episode until they were brought back in season 7. They are regarded as the worst writers in all of Supernatural, responsible for tactless death scenes of fan-favorites (and typically minorities) like Kevin, Charlie, and Eileen. They also feature a gross amount of dubcon/noncon, racism, weird unnecessary sex stuff, and are SUPER into Lucifer for some unknown reason (they have a crush on Mark Pellegrino I guess). They’re also just kind of bad writers in general, their pacing is weird and their plots convoluted. To be fair, though, they have written some good moments, like Dean trying to reach Cas in Hell’s Angel and Dean’s confessional scene in Paint It Black. But overall, they suck. Why are they still on the show even though BOTH sides of the fandom (who never agree on ANYTHING) dislike them? Well, because Eugenie is married to Singer. Nepotism. (notable episodes, the ones I can stand to watch lmao: “Holy Terror,” “Hell’s Angel,” “Our Father Who Aren’t in Heaven”)

Ben Edlund: writer from season 2 who left after season 8, but people STILL talk about him simply because he is arguably the strongest writer of the series. Cas fans particularly like him because he did most of the heavy-lifting regarding Cas’ characterization. He also wrote the famous bi!Dean scene with Aaron in season 8, where Dean is flustered after being flirted with. (notable episodes: “On the Head of a Pin,” “The French Mistake,” and my all-time favorite “The Man Who Would Be King”)

Robert “Bobo” Berens: writer from season 9, his first episode was “Heaven Can’t Wait,” which is all you really need to know about his influence on the deancas storyline. He’s also gay, so people particularly enjoy seeing how he approaches destiel in his episodes since it’s not just another straight guy potentially just catering to fans. He was also the one who was meant to go off and run Wayward Sisters, and is responsible for a lot of their development in recent seasons. I believe he also created Rowena? He wrote the episode this season where Cas confesses his love to Dean (along with other heavy deancas episodes like “The Trap”). Sam fans typically don’t like him because he doesn’t give him much focus. (notable episodes: “Heaven Can’t Wait,” “Who We Are,” “Wayward Sisters” with Andrew Dabb)

Steve Yockey: writer from season 12 through the beginning of season 15. Also gay, and also responsible for deancas moments in recent years. Generally loved for his deancas subtext but ALSO because he is an amazing writer who came out with iconic episodes. (notable episodes: “Celebrating the Life of Asa Fox,” “Lily Sunder Has Some Regrets,” “Peace of Mind” with Meghan Fitzmartin)

Robbie Thompson: writer from seasons 7 through 11, and wrote some fan favorite episodes in the meantime. He is also the creator of fan favorite characters like Charlie and Eileen. He was also one of the few writers who was vocally supportive of destiel during his tenure rather than just later. I’m not implying anything about his intentions, but it was validating for him to encourage fans during a time where most of the cast/crew ignored or actively dismissed it. Plus his episodes are just fun! (notable episodes: “LARP and the Real Girl,” “Fan Fiction,” “Baby”)

Meredith Glynn: writer since season 12, has worked closely with Bobo during their seasons together. She and Bobo cowrote “The Future,” which is the mixtape episode, so she has been taken in by deancas fans haha. She also wrote the episode where Cas makes the deal with the Empty, so it’s pretty safe to say she and Bobo had worked on the deancas plotline together :) She’s also liked some deancas-related tweets on twitter, so she’s being subtly supportive (notable episodes: “Regarding Dean,” “The Future” with Robert Berens, “Byzantium”)

Davy Perez: writer since season 12 (a lot of the ones I’ve mentioned are, since this is when Dabb became showrunner and made changes in the writers room). His episodes tend to either be horror or bizarre. I mention him because he’s responsible for episodes like “Stuck in the Middle (With You)” (Cas’ first “I love you”) and “Tombstone” (aka Brokebacknatural lmao). I don’t know much about him otherwise, but that’s why he’s brought up usually (notable episodes: “Stuck in the Middle (With You),” “Tombstone,” “Atomic Monsters”)

hopefully this helps, and hopefully I didn’t forget about anyone major. There have been a LOT of people behind the scenes so it’s hard to say who to include. Like, I didn’t mention Jerry Wanek, Jim Michaels, Kim Manners, Thomas J. Wright, or others who might be mentioned from time to time.

About contract resign. Tbh I don't think Hobi has a choise. Imo he's the one who wants to continue career on stage as singer/rapper/idol & he needs company for that. What he'll do without it? We don't even see him building network like, for eg, Yoongi does or Tae (in acting field), he probably has some connections but so far they seem invisible. I just hope he negotiated with hybe some conditions for himself to promote as solo... Tbh I am kinda worried about him

First of all, you always have a choice. We all have a choice, always keep that in mind. Secondly, the only issue I think any of the members could potentially face is if they’re unable to retain their masters or stage names of they choose not to renew (which I highly doubt will be the case). Company vs artist legal battles are likely the last thing hybe would want to engage in given their already fragile IPO.

but but but…HYBE isn’t like any other kpop company…they’re different and special…because BTS isn’t like any other kpop group….they’re different and special. aht aht aht.

Behind every great artist is an equally great promotional team (company), that’s a given. However, in Hoseok’s case, that doesn’t necessarily mean that HYBE is the company for him. Please keep in mind that HYBE isn’t some behemoth industry disruptor, the company isn’t innovative, neither are they visionaries. It just so happens to be that Bang PD got lucky with recruiting 7 Korean boys (some talented than others) who happened to amass a giant fanbase along the way. And the reason I say this is because they’ll never be able make another BTS. TXT will never be as big, neither will enhuphen, or any of their future groups. BTS seems to have used up all the luck….because there was never a secret formula to begin with.

As for having connections, those only work when your position is stable. If you lose the position then you’re likely to lose the connections as well. For example, Yoongi has a had alot of collabs, but I’m not sure if there’s enough evidence to call it connections. I think he’s just good (profitable) at what he does (making music) so HYBE sends whoever comes knocking at their door his way. It’s less about him being connected, and more about him having a beneficial position in the company (whatever that may be), but it’s clear someone high up favors him. The Juice Wrld, IU, and Coldplay, Samsung, and OST collabs were all set up by HYBE and not Yoongi directly. Which goes back to the first point I made in this paragraph, and why it’s likely Yoongi will probably be renewing his contract with HYBE or working with them long-term, (if not as an artist, then as a producer or something).

Also, isn’t the whole point of connections for them to be invisible? Always be weary of those who flaunt who they know, because 9/10 those connections are operating on a mutualistic (potentially parasitic) “you scratch my back I’ll scratch yours” basis. On a more personal aspect, it’s important to note that every OST Taehyung has done has been for a kdrama of one of his actor friends. So, does this mean that Taehyung isn’t in demand as an artist outside of his social circle? Perhaps. There’s the age old tale of caution about having too many friends in the entertainment industry. Especially if those friends all share the spotlight. I’m going off topic here, but true friends are those who’d be willing to stick around even if you became the most useless person on the planet. Does Taehyung have that? Friends from before the fame? I’d hope so because if any of his current relationships ever sour, it won’t be pretty.

My point is j-hope’s destiny isn’t tied to HYBE. Especially not at this stage of his career when he’s already found a lot of success outside the group. In general, what Hoseok has accomplished has less to do with company backing (or hidden connections), and more to do with his innate talent and hard work. Which isn’t a bad thing, it just goes to show how he can succeed even in the most disadvantageous circumstances, so imagine if he was actually working in an environment that prioritized him and his artistry? Anon, you’re either young or a pessimist, either way you should know that life has a magical way of working itself out. Nothing is ever as it appears to be and everything is always hidden behind picture-perfect guises. I wouldn’t worry too much about j-hope. Yea his current position in the group sucks, but the guy is a lot smarter than people take him for (especially his fans). The more I think about it the more I want to pick his brain, but I digress.

I have a feeling Hoseok can play his cards right and won’t allow the potential brilliance of his solo career to be squandered away at the hands of a company that prioritizes ships and gimmicks over music and artistry. There’s also the option of him going fully independent, but that’s difficult and unnecessary. If he doesn’t renew his contract with set conditions, then it’s likely he’ll go elsewhere. After all, there are lots of companies who’d be lucky to have j-hope.

As the New Year 2021 is finally here, following the demanding year of 2020, I decided to make a global reading to check energies of 2021. You might want to read this as global energies affect every one of us in a way or another.

We’ve reached the top of 2020, The Sacred Mountain. The climb has been demanding – more for some than others – and we have needed to overcome obstacles. Notice also how Sacred Mountain as a symbol is related to hermits, who isolate themselves from others to be on top of the mountain. Year 2020 was a year of isolation and distance, which was part of the hard climb we all had to go up in a way or another. While it doesn’t look like it, year 2020 served its spiritual higher purpose and thus it was a sacred year. Usually the most demanding years are the best in a long run for us all. We might be here anymore to see the events which evolve in the future – like in 100 years – but people in 2121 will be able to track things from their time to 2020 and its events.

As we leave 2020 behind, we emerge more wiser than in the beginning of 2020 with the Elder card. This is the most important key for the next year. All the knowledge, wisdom and experience we have gathered in 2020 will serve us in 2021 (and for many for a lot longer). Many people emerge from the old to this new year with new understanding. We have seen globally how different old masks and facades fall, how peoples’ truest wants and desires come out, how governments truly are etc. That was also part of the 2020’s lessons so that we’d learn to turn within and trust our own guidance. This is also the message of the Elder. The humanity will continue turning more within and accept less from the outside sources in 2021. This is the time of a major energy shift, when people are awakening to their own powers, to their own wants. No more walking with closed eyes while forgetting ourselves. We have gained understanding of how things can be done differently (for example remote work, online purchases, better communal operations) and there’s no return to the old with the wisdom of Elder. Surely, government and the status quo that’s “dying” will try to keep up with it (good example is Trump refusing to leave his post. He’s an embodiment of the old times which won’t work anymore but which refuse to let go of their benefits and what they have gained without a futile fight).

Year 2021 will be the element of Air. Air is wonderful because it represents dreams, ideas, thought and freedom. We will feel a sense of lightness this year when the year changes and we have big hopes that things will turn better in 2021. People will be keener on trying new things, developing new things, having better innovations and this will affect also marketing and business. While the business world is all about money, they are very adaptable now and willing to try new things because how people behave and think and live has changed in 2020 for good. Air is also the second most spiritual element right after water, so changes in old religions can happen (like them being more open minded and really going there to genuinely help people). People are awakening more for the spirituality and will want to find their own ways. Revival of old religions and traditions can also arise more in 2021.

Air’s negative side is that it’s fickle and can’t make decisions. It’s hasty, unreliable, hard to grasp, too high to understand. While ideas appear, they might not be able to put in use yet. We can take a breather but obstacles of 2020 aren’t yet over. For that, there’s Narrow Pathway. It means that the path that opens in 2021 after the struggles of 2020 is narrow and we might need to squeeze through it with our last strength, without knowing what’s on the other end (because of the fickle air). The world isn’t free from obstacles yet and this is understandable. Themes of 2020 will continue appear in 2021 too with the card of Overcoming Obstacles, but they won’t be so disastrous or demanding anymore. In 2021, we’re mending things and overcoming them. The worst is behind. It is the last sprint.

What these obstacles are globally are related to government, work life, employment, social security, social structures etc. a bit depending what country it is we’re talking about. That’s why Discovering Truth is present in this reading. Like said, 2020 shook people up; “Wake up! Listen! Are you following your own truth or someone else’s? Who are you? What do you want? Are you happy in your life? If not what needs to change?”

People will be less willing to just suck it up and follow blindly authorities with their demands. Together with the Spirit of Air, the innovative governments, companies, organizations and people, who operate together with others giving them freedom to choose and live from their truth, will succeed the best in 2021. This unwillingness to give your own power back can appear as clashes against old authorities refusing to let go of their old glory. People are closing the moment when they have had enough of all bullshit. It is important that everyone finds their own truth and lives from it. The obstacles appearing in front of every person this year will ask them “Who are you? What do you truly want?” It might not be a time for taking action yet for everyone as the Air represents thinking and thoughts. It is definitely good year for some mental work and figuring out who we are. I think everyone will have more or less work on that this year.

Voyage of the Heart is very soothing and warming. It says that this all happens so that people would dare to go towards their dreams. That they would learn to listen to their hearts instead of listening others, following authorities and traditions blindly, and operating from the space outside heart (fear, gluttony, greed etc.) There’s NOTHING wrong with following any authority if it makes the person happier, more fulfilled, more in tune with who they are. Some people will find different guides, authorities etc. for this new journey they want to follow. That’s okay.

Matters of heart will be important. Compassion, wanting to be together and unite again are strongly present in 2021. The year 2020 stopped everyone on their track, forced them to climb up the Sacred Mountain without much any help and leisure, isolated everyone from one another and did this so that we would see what is TRULY important to us. What truly makes people happy and healthy. Connection to others. Compassion. Kindness. Free will. Freedom. Laughter. Socializing. Hobbies. Friends. Family. Loved ones. Nature. Working together for a better goal. All these are high qualities which are natural to us. These qualities will get more important role in 2021 and we will appreciate these a lot. I just saw the movie Soul and laughed how such a movie with a motto “Enjoy your life & See what’s truly important in it” appears in the year 2020 which forces people to stop and do those things. The reward of all these wonderful things will taste even better in 2021.

Voyage of the Heart can mean for some people that they will find a new home somewhere else. They will move and start anew. Relocating is typical for awakening of one’s heart and own truth. This is also feminine card and feminine energy will heal more in 2021. This has been already happening (see Me Too-movement and Black Lives Matter) and it continues in 2021. Many can figure out this year that it is OK to be feminine and have gentle qualities. This includes companies and authorities with gentler, nurturing, more accepting and creative approaches and values. Green values are part of the uprise of feminine energy.

The 2021 will have a Favorable Outcome. It also says that all this bullshit we’ve gone through will have a Favorable Outcome for the whole world in a long run (but like I said, we might not be here to witness all those good things). New innovations, people rising up to fight for their right for happy and meaningful life, fighting against oppression so that all would be treated equal, quitting the old bullshit spewed on us by the authorities, and all personal discoveries will benefit everyone. As we’re all connected to one another, your personal happiness will spread through this network of souls to others and uplift not only you but the whole global energy.

This Is Your Life’s Purpose says that we all came here on this time intentionally. It’s not a coincidence. We are all gaining something of this energy shift which will support us in our daily lives, in our bodies, in our purpose. Remember what I said about the movie Soul? Yeah. That’s the thing happening now! The harder the obstacles hit the farther you have accidentally wandered from your truth and yourself. It can be hard, but you can do it! No matter where you are now, it is OK.

Focus Upon Divine And Perfect Health is a wonderful thing to see for 2021! Covid will loose its grip on us and we would do well if we concentrated more on thinking health and healthy thoughts and mongering in fear. This DOESN’T mean that people should dismiss the pandemic. No. It means “Keep Calm and Carry On”. Wash your hands. Keep your distance to others. Wear a mask. Look after yourself and others. Don’t take stupid risks. And, while doing that, concentrate on health, healthy thoughts and the promise that this pandemic shall pass. We’re almost at the end of it. The scientific discoveries as well as the economical and social discoveries and changes will promote better health for people in the future, too, and hopefully change for example work life to healthier with remote works and such (of course, it is not possible to change ALL working environments to healthier in a zap, but any progress is better than no progress). Also, as people respect their truth and themselves, and allow the feminine energies flow with nurturing, creativity, equality, girl power etc. it will benefit peoples’ health too. This includes everyone no matter how their identify themselves. Energies don’t have genders or identities. They just are, just like colors.

The last card is Let Go Of Fear…Now. This is for the end of the year. Things will be better then but everyone will benefit if they can calm down as much as possible and fear as little as possible. Suppressing emotions and feelings is not healthy, so if you feel something, you feel it. Getting stuck in there is the problem. As the previous cards said, the new changes will let people and businesses let go of some fears, which will benefit people in a long run (like “if I let my employees have remote work days, they will be lazy”). The fear of the pandemic should also ease up the deeper we get into 2021. Notice also how the character is a man and in the sword, there’s a reflection of another man. This is a symbol of masculine energy also healing. Masculine energy is toxic when it has lost its connection to feminine energy (and feminine energy is toxic when it has lost its connection to masculine energy). As the feminine energy cleans up and gets stronger, it will benefit masculine energy and men/those who identify themselves as men or masculine. Men are healing, too, and a health masculinity is protective, loving, supportive, gentle and warm.

This is a promise that there’s nothing to be afraid in 2021. Everything is panning out in the big picture exactly as it should, even if it didn’t feel like it from our limited perspective. All is well and all will be even better.

ZEP 109 ANALYSIS

SOME THOUGHTS on

ZOEY’S EXTRAORDINARY PLAYLIST episode 1x09:

SPOILERS, BELOW:

There is a lot that I don’t understand 100% about what the show is trying to do... with Max “pushing* Zoey for answers to his confession of love” & his reaction to her answer about whether he should take the job offer...or even why they keep saying there’s a deep bond between Z & S, when all they’ve established is that they talked to each other about losing their dads & are physically attracted to each other. Or even why Zoey says that they kissed, when in reality he kissed her. Or Simon’s behaviour...which I don’t think is ONLY just about not dealing with his grief...and all that.

* I don’t see it as him pushing her or demanding answers or anything like that. But this is the sense many get, hence I used this word

I hear the showrunner & the characters talk about a “love triangle”, yet I don’t see one (just confused, grieving people). I hear them talk about a deep emotional bond between Z&S, and yet I don’t see it on screen. I see a pretty shallow connection due to their dads - “grief bond” with no actual deeper connection. And though I personally don’t “feel” that they actually feel attraction to the other, I’m willing to admit that perhaps each truly thinks they do...and actually find the other attractive. But nonetheless the story, to me, has clearly been told in a way that showcases the differences of the two men in her life.

One thing that kinda supports my theories is that while we & Zoey have heard Max sing her actual “love songs” (revealing that the connection they have is love, friendship, romance), then Simon’s “heart songs” have been mostly related to his grief (”Should I stay or should I go” is kinda an exception here). Meaning their connection is based on that, and his grief is what she’s supposed to help him with. All S’s songs have been about his inability to deal with the loss of his dad, and the problems in his life & relationship that have come from this. Which is why I’m still a bit confused why the show is calling it a love triangle, when it doesn’t really seem to be.

Since they all sing their innermost thoughts, and the songs are related to the feelings they have, and connected to the “problem” Zoey is supposed to help them with, then for Simon that seems to be “everything grief related” (he’s still not dealing with the loss, and it affected his relationship with Jessica..etc)...and I don’t understand why Zoey isn’t more actively helping him with that...instead focusing on “do I possibly have romantic feelings for the man?”, when she & Mo established that if she doesn’t help the person who she hears sing with their problem... that’s not good. I think THIS is the thing that has “confused” me. (but we all know network shows love their love triangles and such drama, so they have to play it like that..). So I really hope that in the coming eps we will see Z. help S. deal with his grief (she has her family, Mo & Max...who help her, but S. doesn’t seem to have any support system...) and “fix him”.

Though there was not much Max or Z/M in this episode, there were a few scenes. The elevator scene & the “what do you think I should do?” scene. And we could see Max is practicing social distancing from Zoey. Because no matter how much he cares about her, and proved he’s a good friend by checking up on her & giving her great advice regarding her dad in last weeks episode, he really was hurt by her.

Also...one way he can minimize Zoey “reading his mind” is by removing himself from the same room. And since he doesn’t consider her knowing his secret thoughts fair if he can’t hear/know hers, then one effective way to prevent that from happening is not being around her. Maybe he doesn’t want her to hear that despite acting “hurt” he can’t “hate” her. Maybe he doesn’t want her to hear him sing about being hearbroken. Maybe.... In short: minimizing their contact might be related to something as simple as just trying to avoid her knowing his secret feelings... (the outer expressions & inner thoughts not matching)

As to Max saying that she didn’t give him the right answer might’ve been about something else. And though we saw his facial expression change as she was saying that “The Zoey who sang a love song to him will miss sitting across him at the office, but would never stop him going after what he wants”, I think his answer might’ve been about her asking “Was this the right answer?” Cause that seemed to be the thing that made him make his choice.

Because that implies she was not being 100% honest with him, and instead giving him the answer she thought he wanted to hear. (we saw her do the same with Simon. First asking for his thoughts on the kiss, before revealing her thoughts...so she could base her choise on the other persons choice) It kinda does imply that she still doesnt know how she feels, and isn’t doing what she herself wants. Instead trying to guess what he think she wants her to say. Which is not what Max wants her to do. He wants her to be sure of her choice. Make her own choices. (and unlike many viewers seem to think... I don’t think he’s actually pressuring her, or demanding a love confession as a response to his own. I see it as him listing the “facts” (options), and asking her for her take on it all.

I kinda think he made his decision because she asked “was this the answer you wanted?” more than anything else. Because this tells him that she doesn’t know what she wants. Though her answer “as the Zoey who sang that she is his...romantically” being so “not personal” might’ve also played a part. And there’s another plot in this episode that actually gives us a hint what the whole “Max promoted to 6th floor” thing is about.

< Edited for clarity: As said, I think her adding “was that the answer you wanted to hear” sealed the deal. But... if we look at what Ava told him on the 6th floor on that Saturday, then he was also looking for a different answer in general. An honest answer, and that she’s had some clarity about her feelings (and them) and all that. And also... some indication of a possible future possibility of them.

But... she have him no such answer (or hope), she included her answers as her boss, and friend, but left out the answer as “a romantic possibility”. (cause based on those 1x08 songs all Max knows is that she has feelings for 2 men & he’s one of the possibilities...yet she’s not showing any indication that she’s leaning towards the possibility of them M/Z.) And I think the order of her answer matters, too. She first replies as his boss, then his friend (and completely leaving out the third pole...which they both know based on the heart song is a role she has, because the songs reveal the persons secret inner feelings). And they’ve been friends for so long, but she’s been his boss for just a short time. So to prioritize that role over friends...gotta hurt, too. And in general her reply was centered around work and work hours - she’ll miss sitting across from him in the office, not that she’ll miss their friends movie nights...

So he’s gotta make a move... instead of just waiting for something that’s never gonna happen. Cause we might know/see more, but all he knows is the little she’s shared with him. So to his knowledge the heart song is the ONLY indication she’s even considering “them”. He is a romantic at heart, and he “put himself out there”, yet she’s not given him any real answers (all the things she said in 1x07 that he then understood as “she just needs time because of her dad thing, and everything else” and accepted as we saw based on the 1x07 end elevator scene, and was willing to wait and give her space, became “untruths” in his eyes in next episode. So even if she spoke the truth then, he doesn’t believe those words anymore, so for him she has no clarity on the whole thing, and she’s not given him any “hope” or “answers”.) Edited for clarity />

Unless my other hunch is correct... That Ava is on a spy mission, and the whole recruiting thing is a plan related to the competition for a piece of code between 4th Floor & 6th Floor that is happening in the next episode. Cause there are just to many coincidences: she approaches him on a day when the 4th Floor boss is gone (on a tech conference...which she might know because of the glitch in the watch software that shared everyones calendar events with everyone else...). And it was just luck that this followed an even where Max showed that he’s good at thinking on his feet (he actually did save the pitch by joining Zoey) And we learned his past good work has also been noticed: the escape room. This job offer also happens just before the company is about to get an important “job”. Too many coincidences.

And maybe Zoey/we are all wrong, and Joan & Leif both taking that same day off doesn’t mean they’re together, but that Leif is working on another side-project. We’ve seen his sketchy moves with Joan. We know he wanted the job Zoey got. So how do you “hurt” your competitor? You tear her team apart. It could be that Leif is behind this transfer. Cause last episode also told us that everyone in the office are actually very aware of what’s going on between Max & Zoey (interrupting them, hearing their talks & noticing that they’re not hanging out as much lately...which even Simon noticed. So he might’ve overheard them OR he saw S/Z kiss.). So the timing was also good cause IF there would be truth in this then Leif would know the best frends are going through a rough patch, so it was worth to take the gamble (he maybe couldn’t be 100% sure Max wold take the offer, but he might’ve been quite certain)

So much for wild theories.... (This one is topped only by Simon being behind the transfer...to eliminate his competition... when it comes to Zoey. Which I don’t think is true, but oh....what drama it would allow to be written...where he’s not aware that she can hear his secret thoughts & hence will find out. I would want this to be true ONLY for that scene) And though it’s 95% certain that both J & L “missing from the office” at the same day/time is no coincidence (read: they were together...which only makes me want to know more...is Leif playing her because he knows she wrote the peer review or ...not), and everything implies that Joan could not just “end it”, I sometimes enjoy coming up with wild/fun theories...

One thing that maybe supports this theory of mine is the actors (Skyler Astin, who playes Max) comment that he started to call the 6th floor DRK POINT... which if we follow the SPRQ POINT logic gives us “DARK POINT” instead of “SPARK POINT”...meaning there is something sketchy going on.

And obviously he’s not gonna stay on the 6th floor, so something has to happen for him to return/be returned. Either it’s a scham, or someone (Joan, The Team, Zoey) “fight for him” & get him to return to the 4th Floor.

Also..the whole Max/Aca convo in the dark 6th floor parallels his “romantic storyline with Zoey”:

Max: I hadn’t really planned on making a move. Things are pretty fine for me on the 4th Floor.

Ava: Are they? Or are you stuck treading water? Waiting for something to happen that maybe never will?

Again...if we apply these words to the M/Z situation, then it fits, too. He’s “fine” with how things are going with them. And then the scary boss lady makes him question if he really is OK with it. Or is he stuck...waiting for something to happen between them... (for Z. to admit her feelings..etc) ...that may never happen... and as a romantic at heart... he needs to know if there’s a future possibility...

The whole 1x09 Z & S plot was a shortened version of what’s been happening between Z & M in several past episodes. Zoey was reacting to Simon not giving her a clear answer. It actually tells us a lot about Z&M, and parallels that story.

Z: We have a chemistry & a bond that is undeniable. I guess I was hoping that after the kiss you’d have some clarity about all of it. Clarity you still don’t have, and maybe never will. So... I have to make a change instead of just sitting around and waiting & hoping for something to happen. So this is me saying to you..officially... I can’t, and I won’t do this anymore.

If we apply this to the other duo, then the parallrels are obvious. What Zoey was feeling (about Simon’s answers) is exactly what/how Max has been feeling about her answers to him. And the whole quote/dialogue by Zoey summarizes the other pairings story perfectly: Instead of clear answers Max has gotten vague half-truths from Zoey. If we change a few words/details (”after the kiss” = “after the flash-mob”, then this fits them, too).

And just like Zoey claims she can’t just wait for Simon to have clarity (which he can’t cause he’s not letting himself go through the stages of grief propely..etc) about his feelings, while hoping something to happen, same applies to Max decision in this episode. His talk with the 6th floor boss tells us that this could’ve been a speech given from Max to Zoey. Cause this is exactly what he’s done by taking the job offer. He can’t just sit around waiting for her to catch up/for something to happen. This is him saying “no mo’”

Both for his & her’s sake. Cause he really needs her to be true to her words, and be 100% honest with him. Tell him how she feels. And he really does “deserve” an answer, not sort-of-answers (avoiding giving him a clear answer...no matter what it is). And she needs to make up her mind on her own, and do what she wants, not what she thinks she should do in his opinion. He wants her to choose on her own...without telling her what she has to do. He has shown her his cards (love confession via flash mob, saying that he’d choose love over lust...but she needs to make her own choice), and now it’s her turn.

This show is known for doing parallel stories. The work related story paralllels the personal storyline of the episode. In 1x08 there was a “glitch” in the watch program & a “glitch” in Zoey’s powers. And trying to fix them led to new issues arising. In 1x08 we heard about Tobin & Leifs SPELLaversary tradition..and in the end Leif sang "I put a SPELL on you” to Joan. And so on...

This all leads me to a theory I've had about a coming song/dance number, and this weeks episode told me what the song has to be...IMO. To “solve” all this Zoey has to do a surprise flash-mob performance for Max. To Christina Aguilera’s “What a girl wants”, because if I look at the story so far, then those lyrics summarize the situation (whole s1 arc) almost perfectly. And since there have been kind-of spoilery rumours about another “heart song with a twist” happening later in S1, it matches. Just like the 1x06 flash-mob was real., so will be this one. And this time its not Zoey thinking that Max is just singing her his heart-song (it’s not real), now Max will think that Zoey’s “glitching” again... until he realizes that its real.

As for Simon... I hope the show is not gonna go with the message: “Since he didn’t mean to do it then that makes it ok that he hurt his fiancee, and his grief-buddy" Even IF it really was all unintentional & he’s behaviour is all due to grief, that doesn’t make it OK to go to her house late at night without telling your life partner, it doesn’t make it OK to kiss her (when you’re still engaged) just because she gave you signals that she’s into you... Nope... he can’t take that back. And him being a “good guy, who is just a mess” doesn’t make it OK.

But... I am not so sure Simon’s not sketchy. I mean... he & Jessica clearly had problems before he ever got to SPRQ POINT. She seemed to want to help him, but didn’t really get him. He didn’t really confide in her, and really let her in on his feelings. Also... Jessica’s jealousy (the whole Zoey) thing could very well have roots somewhere... so perhaps this isn’t the first time he’s pursued other women, while being in a relationship? Of course it’s possible Jessica simply is/was jealous by nature, but maybe she has a reason/experience from past?

As for S & Z: their whole connection in built on a lie. He thinks she actually gets him, when that’s not true - she knows about his “grief” only thanks to her superpower. And you can’t really build a lasting relationship on “lies”... even if there is a connection (shared grief experience) that came AFTER the initial lie. Just think about when/if Simon finds out how/why it all began... that’s not gonna go as well as Max finding out about the games she played with him (that unnecessarily hurt Autumn in the end)...

So there are two big things they can play with in the future that will help create the big drama they love - S. finding out that it all started because of Z’s superpower (she cheated in the game) and not because she could emotionally connect on her own. And in a nearer future Max finding out about the 1x08 Z/S kiss. Which has to come from her, directly, if she plans to stay true to her promise to be completely honest with him. And third could be S. finding out about the powers. (part of me thinks it should happen, part of me thinks it shouldn’t happen in S1)

Either way... we know that there are going to be scenes/moments (heart songs) from/with both of the men. Whether these are “love songs” or “heartbreak songs” or “angry songs” or... something other... we don’t know for sure..yet.

But we do know that there are ONLY THREE EPISODES left of this season. 1x10 on April 19th, 1x11 on April 26th & 1x12 Finale on May 3rd. And the finale brings us a very special “heart song” from/with one of the two men. So there are clear sings that by/in the S1 finale the show will “commit” to one of the ships. And since we have small bits & pieces about the coming eps & finale, we can put together a part of the puzzle already. And though it seems that the Finale will sadly be when Zoey says goodbye to her dad, there seems to be lot more going on. Work stuff/Team song, guest appearances by some past characters, Zoey revealing her truths and... more....

They Could NEVER Do That These Days…

So, I watched the movie Airplane the other day for the first time in at least a decade. And, well, it was an experience. First off, I laughed more than I have in a long time. The attention to detail, the quick wit, and the non-stop banter left me nearly breathless. But because of the sheer volume of jokes—which included plenty of physical comedy, prop comedy, puns, play on words, and jabs at contemporary issues (of that time)—I found myself frequently thinking, "They could never do that these days." In fact, I probably laughed the hardest at the scenes where the little old White lady acted as a "jive" translator for two Black men, but I knew something like that would never fly in our current culture. Which, of course, left me wondering if I'm an awful person. And I've been thinking about contemporary morality ever since then, most of which has included the "cancel culture."

You've probably heard about the death of Mr. Potato Head and Dr. Seuss recently, right? Gender norms and racial sensitivity are hot button topics right now, and the "cancel culture" seems to be wielding them like flaming swords. At least… that's what I've heard, anyway. It's entwined in conversations with my patients and plastered all over my Facebook feed. And to be honest, it's my gut reaction, too. But do you know what's great about being a grown adult living in a first-world country? I have the freedom, time, and resources to unpack those gut reactions—to dig deeper into the facts until I can form a sober-minded opinion that reflects a little more truth. And it took me all of ten minutes to stop being afraid of the leftist childhood killers.

No, I'm not a liberal. Soooo far from it, in fact. But that doesn't mean I'm sitting on the right side of the isle, either. In fact, if there IS a left and right side of the isle in whatever political building we're talking about, I'd probably be outside said building, chasing butterflies and rolling in the grass, blissfully unaware of the crazies locked inside on such a beautiful day. But anyway, now that you know just how UN-political I am, let's talk about politics. First off, Fox news is bonkers. Their stories and debates are laughably biased. I can't listen for more than a few seconds before rolling my eyes. Then again, so is EVERY other news channel! Why? Ratings! A network that vowed to only report facts without opinions would go bankrupt in a week. And what is politics without taking sides in a debate, anyway? The way I see it, it's all just Jerry Springer with a facelift.

But if that's really my stance toward politics, what business do I have talking about any of this at all? Why do I even care? Well, I care because I have kids. And those kids have to grow up in this world. Their thoughts and opinions will be impacted by this world. And because I think the way I grew up is the best way, my knee-jerk reaction is to be afraid of change that could rob my little girls of the pearls of happiness that shaped MY childhood. So who has more authority to determine the future of Mr. Potato Head—hypersensitive justice warriors or apolitical parents? My answer? Honestly? I don't really care. And let me tell you why.

It's a freaking toy! Hasbro, the owners of the Potato Head brand (one person tweeted that they should drop the "bro" and just be "Has," which I think is downright hilarious), decided that it would be a good idea to rebrand their marketing to be more inclusive to non-traditional family units. But do you know what they DIDN'T do? They didn't kill Mr. Potato Head or his lovely wife. They're still flying off the shelves. It's only the marketing that has changed. The argument could be made that outrage from outlets like Fox helped retain some of this traditional packaging, but… still… It's a hunk of plastic being sold at huge margins for mild entertainment. I wouldn't be sad if they burned the whole product line to the ground. It's lame anyway.

And what about Dr. Seuss? Decidedly NOT lame, and I don't trust anyone who thinks he is. So how in the would could "they" pull his books from all of our schools!? Lolol. Okay, thirty seconds of Googling clears up the situation. Dr. Seuss Enterprises has decided to stop printing six (6… SIX) of their books because of insensitive material. But they're still printing almost SIXTY other Seuss books. They've decided that ten percent of their material, which stretches back to before World War 2, is no longer culturally relevant. Honestly, that's amazing. Especially considering one of the earliest works was titled, "The Pocket Book of Boners.”

Book production is halted all the time. Usually it's because people lose interest. Sometimes it's because the book includes material that promotes racism in a positive way… to our kids. But it's always because the publishers want to continue making money. That's capitalism. If you don't like it, you're a communist (j/k… kind of). And besides, if you can tell me which six Seuss books are being "canceled," I'll eat my words. Every single one of them.

I guess what it all comes down to is that I've got bigger problems. I had to spank my daughter this morning because she was screaming (like, I'm surprised the neighbors didn't call 9-1-1) about the injustice of not being able to bring the "right" toys to her soccer game. The soccer game in which she would be playing soccer. Not playing with toys. Priorities. Materialism. Limited worldview. She won't miss six random Dr. Seuss books. She won't notice the rebranded Potato Heads. She will know that it's not appropriate to cry and wail and kick and flail (eat your heart out, Dr. Seuss) about toys when her teammates will be depending on her. She will know that Daddy is firm but loving, that he would do anything to keep her safe, that he only disciplines to prepare her for the best possible future. She'll know that, above all else, our purpose in life is to love God and to love others. She will know to choose people over things and to never give into misplaced fear.

Because, in the end, fear is at the root of this whole topic. We're afraid of losing control, losing our childhood, losing our freedom. But all of that melts away when we lean into something that can never be lost—our freedom to love and be loved. It's a simple fact that some will never lean into, and that makes me more sad than anything. More sad than the loss of a few toys or children's books. Even more sad than if the big, bad "cancel culture" came after some of the things that I love. Sure, the world wouldn't be the same without Airplane, but I probably wouldn't miss it. Lord knows I've got more than enough slapstick chaos in my daily life already.

Bunch of anons about Carina and Roswell NM drama

Under the cut because it’s long and gossipy...

Anonymous said: Whatever nonsense Carina may have been up to with Jeanine and Nathan, both the leads have seemed to keep their private issues to themselves by not telling other cast or friends. That's why it angers me that the person who leaked the information disregarded Jeanine as a person and victim.

I’m of two minds on this. On one hand I totally agree and I hate that Jeanine’s name was drug into this and her involvement was shared by the multiple inside sources, but on the other hand I do not like Carina, I think she was awful to work for, and I think it’s a good thing if it’s know in the industry that she created friction on set and was investigated by HR.

She was so unprofessional, just from what we could see as fans, that she should NOT be put in charge of another show any time soon. So I think for the sake of people she will work with in the future, it’s a good thing it’s out there. She has a whole lot of growing to do before she should ever work in television again.

You make a good point about Jeanine and Nathan keeping their business to themselves. Carina is out there over-sharing constantly, putting every neurosis on full display, and forcing half the cast to be out drinking and entertaining her on a regular basis. While those two, kept quiet and out of the spotlight. In interviews/panels they’ve both been completely professional, doing their jobs while also being charming, funny and eloquent.

It was obvious to those of us watching closely that all was not well between J/N and Carina when the season started shooting. Carina was bitchier when she talked about them and those characters than she had been before, and J/N were nowhere to be seen in her braggy out-partyin’-with-my-cast IG stories and posts.

As you say, it doesn’t look like J/N tried to drag any other cast or crew into whatever the issue was. I’m not sure the same can be said for Carina, that speaks volumes about the character of all involved.

I’m guessing this chat or whatever it is was set up before Jeanine and Vlamis knew the studio was going to swoop in and make their lives a whole lot better by firing Carina. So it will be interesting to see if it still happens on schedule or if it’s postponed for awhile.

If it does go on, I think they will probably cover it really quickly and superficially like Vlamis did when he was schilling his merch the other night and then move on. They won’t deep dive into it, that’s for sure.

Yes, remember the days when Carina used him as her social media crutch (every post she makes like that with a hot actor or country singer is basically her rampant insecurities saying: “hey look at the hot guy(s) who hang out with me and take pictures with me, it means I have value ya’ll!”) before she moved onto Trevino and then Vlamis. So sad.

They were clearly friends after The Originals and she invited him to audition. I’m glad she did, he’s great in the role. Although it sounds like he was lucky that the President of the CW saw him and told her he was a leading man, since she didn’t see him as a lead. Sometime a friend’s preconceived notions might actually hold a person back...

Who knows what happened, but just knowing human nature and Carina’s energy, I’ve always wondered if she thought she was going to have her friend on set and he was gonna be her social crutch, her go-to to entertain her and party with her, but right off the bat he and Jeanine got together so during the first season filming he wasn’t so much interested in the single, going-out partying lifestyle that she’s clearly addicted to and that rankled her a bit. Perhaps she lost her party buddy to her leading lady, and the loss of that attention “displeased” her. (to quote Kamran who said Carina told the writers to punish actors who displeased her by reducing their screen time. Interesting thought, no?)

I know. She didn’t unfollow him because of that. That was definitely a show of cutting ties with him. It was probably in a fit of rage because she can’t unfollow Jeanine (because that would look terrible). Also she has been so humiliated between being unceremoniously fired and losing her development deal with WB, the Hollywood Reporter article making her look terrible, and that writer spilling tea, that my guess is she’s hoping to shift focus to someone else and she knows unfollowing him will make us all wonder why.

In my opinion there’s no reason to think those sources got it wrong. I would guess that Jeanine was involved, but that doesn’t mean it didn’t also involve Nathan. Those two are a self-professed team, so no reason to think they wouldn't be in this instance as well.

I’m sure she wants to, but she can’t unless she wants to confirm that, yes, there was friction on the set and, yes, there was a specific problem with her leading lady.

Carina went out of her way to try and combat the “rumors” about her and Jeanine not getting along, addressing the situation in her goodbye post-- drawing more attention to it in the process-- so unfollowing her now would just make her look foolish and like everything she said was a lie and everything from the inside sources is true.

As I said above, I know it’s not a coincidence. She’s dumb because by doing that she pretty much confirmed that there was friction on the set. If there wasn’t, she wouldn’t be unfollowing the person in the main cast who she was closest too prior to the show.

Part of me wonders if, as an old friend, she asked him for something (to defend her or a show of support) and he wouldn't do it. Perhaps she’s most hurt by him not supporting her since they were friends before and she did give him a lead role on a network show (and also accidentally introduced him to his girlfriend.) Maybe she thought he owed her and he didn't step up to defend her or even just give a tacit show of support by responding to her social media posts on leaving??

I’m guessing if he had come out of social media hibernation to give her one of those paltry “Thanks for everything” responses to her IG post like the other actors she wouldn't have unfollowed him.

Well they were apparently friends before he was cast, what happened after that is hard to say. They seemed fine during the promotion of season 1, but as soon as season 2 started filming, Carina’s tone when talking about him and Max got ugly and Nathan and Jeanine were staying far away from her socially. I mean Jeanine hosted a ladies Friendsgiving at their house, where 40 women from the cast and crew came over for a Thanksgiving feast, but the female showrunner wasn’t there. Hmmmm...

However, this spring things seemed to have thawed a bit. Jeanine and Carina would occasionally like each other’s IG post (someone pointed out to me that had stopped during summer of 2019 and they didn’t engage with each other’s posts much if at all during S2 filming) Jeanine and Carina did that IG live and Carina was talking positively about Nathan and Max and seemed to be setting him up for a big season 3 with the dual roles and talking excitedly about that, so honestly, to me, it seemed like they had made their peace. Perhaps Carina getting fired (and the straw that broke the camel’s back on that was clearly her idiotic tirade against the UK distributor) brought back up all the issues??? Or maybe Carina blamed them because of the prior issues? Or maybe they didn’t support her with the studio when she was trying to salvage her job? All I know is that Carina’s public behavior on social media is enough grounds to fire her, so she has no business blaming anyone but herself.

Kota Ibushi defends the titles in their last hurrah, and will now be the inaugural IWGP World Heavyweight Champion, which, we have yet to see that title belt. Post-main, he begged Hiroshi Tanahashi at ringside, to watch as Ibushi upholds his promise of broadening and expanding the world of wrestling, and not just in NJPW either. The United Empire had a good day at the office, with Cobb and O-Khan beating Kojima and Naito respectively. Cobb moves on to face EVIL, whilst O-Khan will get the winner of Toru Yano v. Bad Luck Fale tomorrow. Those matches will take place on 3/11/2021. I'm sure a segment of the internet was upset at Naito's loss but I chose to live in peace today rather than find out. Otherwise, we had prelude tag matches for New Japan Cup matches, with FinJuice and KENTA returning to action in Japan. More on FinJuice below.

During the intermission, NJPW announced two major shows for May, under the banner of Wrestle Grand Slam. The first one will be on 5/15/2021 at Yokohama Stadium, another outdoor baseball stadium show, following the success of Summer Struggle in Jingu last August at Tokyo Jingu Stdiuam. This will be NJPW's debut at this venue.

The other date is on 5/29/2021 at the Tokyo Dome. This will be the first time NJPW has run a Tokyo Dome show outside of the traditional January 4 rally, since Toukon Souzou New Chapter on 10/8/2005. I don't mind telling you that the headlining match of that show, which saw Brock Lesnar beat then IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuyuki Fujita and Masahiro Chono in a three-way match to win the title, was one of the worst matches in NJPW history, and would eventually lead to Lesnar legitimately stealing the belt and giving it back to Antonio Inoki when Inoki formed Inoki Genome Federation. That aside, there was a time when NJPW, and indeed other companies, would regularly run the Tokyo Dome, although AJPW and NOAH did so less frequently than NJPW. Now only NJPW does it, once per year, however that seems to be changing now. More updates on these new shows as they happen.

FinJuice featured once again on Impact Wrestling this past Tuesday, teaming with the Good Brothers ("Machine Gun" Karl Anderson & Doc Gallows) to defeat the combined tandem of XXXL (Acey Romero & Larry D) and Reno Scum (Adam Thornstowe & Luster the Legend), with the Impact World Tag Team champions getting a win after a Magic Killer. The Good Brothers and FinJuice argued post-match, and in the end, Doc Gallows challenged FinJuice for a title match at Impact's Sacrifice event on 3/13/2021, in a battle of former IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team champions. I'm going to guess that match has already been taped, since both Juice and Finlay are in Japan for the New Japan Cup. That wasn't the only mention of NJPW, as AEW owner Tony Khan namedropped the company during one of his "paid advertisement" segments that he's been doing ever since this NJPW-AEW-Impact co-promotion has started.

Last week we reported that Marty Scurll was backstage at the lastest round of NJPW Strong tapings, and had even filmed an angle with Rocky Romero. Yesterday, the Twitter account of rival podcast Super J-Cast reported that "according to sources," those plans have been dropped and Scurll will not be featured on NJPW programming anytime soon. I am pretty sure the outcry against using a sex pest is what caused this. So good for us. NJPW don't usually take notice of things like fan outcry, but it would seem in this case they did. Fightful.com's Sean Ross Sapp posted further that several of the backstage talents were not happy Scurll was there, and would not have worked the tapings had they known. Whatever the case, it looks like NJPW Strong will be Scurll-free for the immediate future. And good riddance, too.

Tomorrow starts the New Japan Cup tour proper, with two more first-round matches. This will be live on NJPWWorld.

Political engagement- week 5

Frankly speaking, i have no interest in any politics since in my opinion, politics acts as a battleground for two or more political parties to get as much votes as possible in order to to be able to govern the nation. In the end, the outcome turns out to be which party is the governing and which party is the opposition. The background of politics is subtle in a sense that none of us can fully make sense of how political system works and hence, it sounds cliche that “politics is the art of the possible”.

Elaboration here means the connecting of thoughts, recognising the new information as important and relevant, a process that leads to having an attitudinal reaction. How politics impacts the social media?

In this globalized era, politicians are no longer using posters to self-advertise to the public. Instead, as nowadays almost everyone has at least one social media account (Facebook and Twitter), politicians start appreciating the convenience of social media due its fast responsiveness and less time-consuming. As a result, politicians make full use of social media in order to attract more audience and convey message even faster. Donald Trump is among the other politicians who is highly active on social media especially Twitter, where he expresses his thoughts and governmental policy and even shares his daily routine to the social media users.

Political parties across the globe realize that in addition to advertising on traditional mediums such as television and newspapers, they need to invest in digital marketing if they want to stay competitive with their rival parties. Over the past few years, an uptake in UK and US parties becomes more prevalent, in particular, using social media campaigns to defeat their opponents.

Let’s take the UK as an example. In 2017, the UK’s general election was a tight race, but the Labour party had huge wins, obtaining 21 seats from its Conservative opponents. Despite Jeremy Corbyn didn’t manage to emerge as the new prime minister, the party made huge strides by investing in effective digital media campaigns that were all about distributing the right messages as the right times.

In 2016, Demos research showed that around 23% of UK adult social media users perceive that social platforms help them “understand parties’ policy positions” prior to an election, and 26% said social media engagement made them more likely to vote. That’s something Labour took notice of in 2017. While, according to the Electoral Commission, the Conservative Party spent £1.2 million on Facebook advertising ahead of the 2015 General Election, Labour spent seven times less. And it regretted that decision for the next two years.

2017 was definitely a change of pace for the party. It began to invest heavily in social media, now the Labour party realize that social media investment is an imperative part of winning a political race. The party even created its own social media targeting tool called Promote, which it used to tailor unique policy messages to individual voters. The system automatically tweaked core policy messages to over a thousand unique variations which were delivered based on a number of factors, including location. In addition, Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn joined Snapchat to document his political journey - the first politician of his pedigree to do so. He was also very active on Twitter and other social networks. Despite Corbyn eventually didn’t win the vote for Prime Minister, he did successfully gave an impact to the public to give the Labour party significantly more seats and a 40% share of the vote. Surprisingly, He was also extremely popular with the younger demographic.

The Labour party as a whole concentrated on sharing positive messages about party leaders and policies, a smart move to get over from its negative criticisms of the “Tories” during the 2015 general election.

Its website had a temporary homepage in the weeks up the election, with the number of days until the election highlighted and the urgency messaging clearly outlined. These types of tactics are often used successfully in digital marketing campaigns for retail/eCommerce sites, and they worked well here, as well.

Besides that, Labour focused much on increasing its reach on social media. According to Nassour (2017), in the six weeks after the announcement of the 2017 General Election, ‘We Are Social’ revealed that the Labour Party increased its following by 61% across Social Media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. The Conservatives’ social media following increased by just 6% in the same period. The party used positive messaging, celebrity endorsements, and ads to urge young voters to go to the polls. A record 622,000 individuals registered to vote in the final 24 hours of the registration period, young voters became the majority amongst the individuals.

Grassroots Labour party organization Momentum spent only £2,000 on Facebook advertising, as opposed to the Conservatives’ £1m but resulted in significantly more success because the ads were highly targeted and positive in nature, while the Tory party stayed quite negative and failed to engage its audience.

In a nutshell, political engagement on social media can bring a huge success since it can deliver message at the right time. With more youngsters are highly active on social media, undoubtedly political parties have seized such opportunity to instill some knowledge about politics on user’s mindset so that more awareness can be raised and people will have the will to vote. As the saying goes, Youngster is the future leader of the country.

Winnicott, D. (1986) Home is where we start from. England: London

In this collection of essays we learn of Winnicott’s key teachings, presented to a lay audience. He explains attachment theory, the ‘good enough environment’, the contribution of the Mother to society, adolescence and the relationship between the individual and their facilitating family group. He explores concepts of health versus illness through his lens as a psychoanalyst in addition to to his medical background. It is extremely helpful to see how foundation concepts of personality, the very make up of human emotional development can be applied to such a variety of cultural topics such as monarchy, the Pill and mathematics. He brings clarity to these issues and offers me a model for applying depth of insight about the subconscious and the effect of early childhood environment on later life. By uncovering gaps or repression in the individual’s psyche the psychotherapist can facilitate milestones of developmental progress, albeit at a later stage of maturation.

Yalom, I. (2002) The Gift of Therapy. US: HarperCollins

This is a handbook of 85 tips and instructions built upon 35 years of clinical practice and teaching. He paints a picture of a therapist in a way that inspires me to rise to the challenge of training and the ongoing character growth that is so crucial to this profession. He promotes curiosity, humility and transparency, and breaks away the the image of the therapist as an all-knowing provider of interpretations, or a blank canvas to absorb transference. He gives a practical guide for mining the here-and-now aspects of the therapeutic encounter to further the process of therapy. He describes tools for incorporating the therapist’s own feelings into the mix as well as how to explore dream material, how to take a history and how to look at their present; how their daily life is organised and peopled. He writes with deep pride on the privilege of helping others find meaning, health and joy.

Skynner, Cleese (1983) Families and how to Survive Them London: Vermilion

This was a a whistle-stop tour through all the major themes of child development, identity, attraction, relationships and family dynamics written as a conversation between Robin Skynner, a psychotherapist and John Cleese his former patient. They discuss the continuum that exists with optimally healthy families at one end; dysfunctional families with inter-generational problems at the other; and the “normal” families in the middle in which we see an expected mix of ‘screened off’ feelings alongside coping mechanisms, defenses and social norms to smooth the way. Skynner draws on Freudian ideas as well as later work by more recent therapists and analysts who looked at how families work as a system. Each part affects all other parts of the system. By considering inter-relationships through the eyes of a typical family we can learn about letting go of inherited mistakes and move forward to optimal family life.

Van Der Kolk, B. The Body Keeps the Score, United Stares: Penguin

This book is about how trauma impacts a person causing long term suffering to victims, their families and future generations. Using scientific methods such as brain scans and clinically sound investigations, Van Der Kolk looks at how the mind and body are transformed by traumatic events; how neural networks are formed as coping mechanisms and may later morph into unwanted behaviours. This is followed by a paradigm of treatment that seeks to give individual patients ownership of their narrative, their bodies and a route to self awareness and healing. Yoga, EMDR, neurofeedback and theater are offered as examples of pathways to recovery and I believe that art therapy is another good candidate for an embodied type of therapy, one that does not rely on talking alone. This book answered questions about my own pattern of mild symptoms and has opened up the whole field of mind/body connection in relation to trauma and healing.

Axline, V.M. (1964) Dibs In Search of Self. London: Penguin

Virginia M. Axline has written the true story of Dibs, her client; a talented and sensitive child who was trapped in isolation due to the lack of emotional connection in his life. Through psychotherapy - play therapy to be precise - he regained his sense of self and was eventually able to thrive, utilise his gifted nature and contribute to society. It is an eloquent case study obliquely laying out the principles of play and art therapy. The therapist built the safe environment in which the child could open up and slowly verbalise his deeply felt emotions. reparation with his parents blossoms. It is notable that the therapist made it safe for Dibs to express negativity. This teaches us to think about hostility as a sign sometimes of adequate ego strength for the feelings to be articulated. In that sense, aggression is a sign of health! This book is a beautiful testimony to the power of psychotherapy to transform lives.

Malchiodi, C. (2011) Trauma Informed Art Therapy and Sexual Abuse in Children. In: Goodyear-Brown, P. (ed.) Handbook of Child Sexual Abuse: Identification, Assessment and Treatment. United states: John Wiley & Sons

This chapter deals with how art therapy helps children who have suffered sexual abuse to articulate their sometimes unutterable experiences in a manner that the therapist can understand while within what is tolerable for the child. Trauma informed art therapy involves using art materials to address hyper-arousal and to teach relaxation, referencing the specific neuro circuit that is activated by hands on activities of a soothing nature. The sensory and tactile qualities of art materials need to be taken into consideration, how they are central to trauma recovery, but equally how they may trigger memories of distressful events. The somatic approach, using colour and shape enables children to locate the place in the body where trauma is held so they can learn to diminish distress. The author comments on the relevance of culturally sensitive materials and projects. This has been a rich article for me, linking my reading on trauma, with art therapy for a client group I may want to work with in the future.

Cane, F. (1951) The Artist in Each Of Us. United States: Art Therapy Publications

This book bridges art and therapy. It aims to give the reader a means to achieving a richer art and a more integrated life. It looks at how movement, feeling and thought work together. I was intrigued to read detailed technical instructions for accessing subconscious material which can be used to reach higher levels of artistic expression and also personal healing. The case studies record the progress of her students and how transcendence was coaxed up through fantasy, play, rhythmic movements, chanting and other indirect means until it could be released for union with the conscious. I tried out some of these techniques and was surprised to discover not only the catharsis, but also the unexpected outcomes of artwork spontaneously arising from my own psychological material. It shows me how the perceptive teacher can awaken in her students their own creativity and direct them to find solutions for subtle or complex inner dilemmas.

Dalley, T. (ed.) (1984) Art as Therapy. An Introduction to the use of art as a therapeutic technique. London: Routledge

This book is an introduction to the theories that underpin art therapy and is broad in it’s range of contributing authors. We get an outline of the role of art within a therapeutic framework, the manifestation of art as play, as a language of symbols and development. The historical links between art education and art therapy are explored; the differences and what they have in common; and a possibility for merging the two fields. Each chapter on a specific client group offers insights for working with these vulnerable people in a way that will give direct therapeutic benefit.

I found the chapter on art therapy in prisons to be particularly enlightening. The author was clear about the actual constraints of working in that environment, what the pitfalls might be and she presented practical guidance on overcoming them. She promotes a vision for how arts can transform the most ant-social of prisoners into creative, productive people; this raises pertinent questions for the current justice system.

Price, J. (1988) Motherhood, What it Does to Your Mind London: Pandora Press

A fascinating book delving into the psychology of mothering written by a female psychiatrist and psychotherapist. It ties up the concepts of attachment theory with the realities of modern relationships and societal expectations. It is presented through the lens of a Woman, a woman who lived through her own mother-daughter dynamic, pregnancy, giving birth, breast feeding and the like. She looks at how our culture and family story play out in our own lives whether consciously or unconsciously. By normalising much of the natural difficulties of mothering, this book can offer solace in trying times.

I am a mother of four boys and pregnant with my fifth child, so I am justified to claim that his book ought to become mainstream knowledge. It is through lived experiences that we can most genuinely form opinions and then reach out to help others in a professional capacity.

Case, C. Dalley, T. (1992) The Handbook of Art Therapy London: Routledge

This handbook is a bird’s eye view of the profession. It covers the theories of psychoanalysis and how it intersects with art as well as a detailed look at the practical aspects of employment as an art therapist in jargon-free language. This gives a beginner art therapist a survival guide for those inevitable first forays into work. I gained a grasp on the complexities surrounding room set-up or lack of appropriate dedicated space. A how-to guide on various forms of note taking making use of the same example session throughout the different formats was extremely helpful. There is clear preparation for supervision, referrals, working in an institution, operating as part of a team versus being isolated and potentially being misunderstood. Reading this was an important step towards becoming a competent practitioner.

Critical Analysis

Poritz, J.A., Rees, J. (2016) Education Is Not an App: The future of university teaching in the Internet age, 6 pp. 72-73

For my critical analysis, I chose Jonathan Poritz, who has a Ph.D. The book is co-authored with Jonathan Rees and is called “Education Is Not an App: The future of university teaching in the Internet age”. I chose this book as the source of my analysis because it critically analyses the relationship between media technology and education, and emphasises that media technology has great potential, but control is a key factor in whether education is used for good or bad purposes. This book will serve as a valuable guide for teachers and anyone interested in the future of higher education. In this article, there are many knowledge points I am not familiar with, at the same time, the author uses of critical thinking research methods, which will guide my future self-development process.

Dr. Poritz is an associate professor of mathematics. He has a doctorate in the University of Chicago in 1992 and a bachelor's degree in Harvard in 1985. He has three patents on computer security, including "Education is not an Application: The Political Economy of the University Teaching in the Times of the Internet" with Jonathan Reese (August 2016, Routledge). I will focus on the sixth chapter of the book: Learning Management Systems.

In the first part, the author focuses on the analysis of the concept of education in action and the introduction of the learning management system (LMS). The author introduces that LMS covers all or almost all the functions needed by modern university pedagogy. Students and teachers can use their school accounts to log in or access them. At the same time, LMS is divided into free and non-free versions, and commercial LMS has more different service levels, including some locally hosted and minimum support ports. However, Dr. Poritz believes that LMS's closed software and data ecosystem both have advantages and several flaws. By analysing the characteristics of LMS, Dr. Poritz holds that the closed line of LMS limits the learning environment of students, hinders the open Internet, especially leads to the lack of innovation among students, and does not allow the content placed within the system to be shared outside it. This makes sense since most of the work done by students one any learning materials never leave the university intranet which means the knowledge is not shared with others.

In the next part of this article, Dr. Poritz draws parallels between LMS and the information leak that took place in 2012 exposing the Natonal Security Agently (NSA) keeping surveillance of the global Internet by working with Internet companies to allow the installation of interception devices and software for data collection functions, an incident that led to calls, especially outside the United States, to prevent surveillance. Dr. Poritz refers to the segregation of the Internet into pieces which are controlled locally, i.e. being surveilled locally, and reminds the reader of this phenomenon called Balkanization of the Internet. The author thinks that Balkanization can bring many disasters, because the biggest benefit of the Internet is its openness and global scope. Then, the author supports the argument by referring to sociological research (Burt, 2004) where (social) network structures promote the emergence of new ideas and must be connected. The author's main argument is that curbing the open Internet is discouraging innovation. By combining the Internet with LMS, the author thinks that LMS separates educational activities from the open Internet, which can have a detrimental impact on teaching since anything learnt on campus will never leave the university grounds and have no educational impact on others. Dr. Poritz also believes that academic freedom is restricted, specific and dangerous through the use of the closed system.

Dr.Poritz believes that upgrades of layout tools and choices are not driven by the needs of students and professors. He supports his argument by stating that if a salesperson would occasionally change students’ stationary without asking them first, this would not be left unnoticed. However, sotware upgrades are never consulted with the end user.

Next, the author argues that online study content remains within the bounds of a closed infrastructure not leaving any scope for sharing it with others or allowing any further contributions. The author refers to it as being ‘locked in a proprietary format within the LMS’ thus blocking it from others.

The last part of the article explains the legal complexity of LMS. The author emphasises that users publishing information on LMS must comply with all copyright laws used and it is not made clear who owns the content placed on the system, whether it is the software owners or the universities. He also states that to date, no software owners have claimed their rights to the content and it is not clear who may own the whole course since the legality in this case is quite intricate. Moreover, if the software licence is not renewed, it is not clear what happens to the content previously placed on the system.

Overall, this article offers the reader an opportunity to think about the use of a closed university intranet from a more critical perspective. The author through a variety of research and comparative methods argues that there is a relationship between the Internet technology and education but draws the reader’s attention to the idea that maybe this type of education may not bring in innovation and retrict academic freedom and affect course content copyright. By illustrating his arguments, the author allows the reader to wonder if LMS is actually beneficial for any organisation. However, Dr. Poritz does not provide actual evidence that LMS is not good for those that use it while on the course mostly arguing that the features of the software may not allow for the content to be either shared with others or remain in the possession of the Higher Education institutions that use it. Overall, I agree with almost all of the author's arguments. This article has made me realise there is a new side of education. Hence, the reader is able to understand that the benefits of the closed learning platforms may be debatable and may lead to lack of innovation and contribution of creative ideas to the rest of the world, thus, making this learning meaningless and going against the socialogical research theory making it similar to the work produced by students as a hard copy and stored on shelves being inaccessible to others in the rest of the world.

Since last August, we have been working hard to make this Gran Varones Fellowship happen. When we launched Gran Varones on this date exactly five years ago, it has been our commitment to build power at the community level. It was this very commitment that inspired us to launch the Gran Varones Positive Digital Arts Fellowship. Gran Varones was awarded a grant (our very first!) from ViiV Healthcare to launch a year-long (March 2019 – January 2020) national fellowship to develop the leadership of a cohort of six HIV positive Latinx Gay, Queer, Trans and Bisexual Men ages 21-35. This cohort of creatives will be supported with resources to combat HIV stigma and promote family acceptance in Latinx communities through digital storytelling, community building and cultural organizing.

Through an online application process, we received responses from brilliant applicants from all over the country. Narrowing the list down to six people was almost impossible. In fact, we were originally budgeted to select five fellows but decided on six because, well, why not?

We selected six brilliant creatives from just as many cities. We prioritized creatives who are new to the digital organizing and/or storytelling space. And after sharing time and space with them during our first of two convenings a few weeks ago, we are excited about all of the magic that they will be creating as individuals and as a cohort.

In addition to creating content for GV, each fellow will organize a community-based event. This will expand our commitment of building power through storytelling by making it even more accessible. These six fellows are going to create a new earth! Here are the six Gran Varones Positive Digital Arts Fellowship:

Carlos Moreno (He/They) Los Angeles, CA

A Gemini in his 28th year of existence, Carlos is a proud Chicanx living his truth as an HIV Positive Queer person from Tucson, Arizona. A product of migration, this first generation being strives to make a helpful and lasting impact on the HIV/AIDS community, both globally and locally. He has stood alongside others in the fight against HIV/AIDS in prevention and as well as in care. Unscathed by stigma, He has navigated the last ten years of his life by reclaiming any animosity he's faced and turned it into a therapeutic artistic expressions. A natural introvert himself, Carlos has struck chords with folks using simple imaging and messaging, leaving faces shocked, surprised, amused, or not in agreement, but definitely began a conversation. Carlos wants nothing more than for other Poz folk to join in on this ARTivism movement, share their experiences and connect with others so that we don’t all feel alone, especially Queer and Trans people of Color. It has been a dream of his to see there be space for distributing such products at events where other LGBTQ/Hetero/ HIV/AIDS information is being accessed. Carlos believes that it is important that people living with or affected by HIV/AIDS have access to the same empowering messages the HIV Negative and prevention communities do, that they are equally represented with pride and equity. Without a real push for some financial assistance, these items may only be limited to the creator and not have the opportunity to help inspire other Poz communities to flourish.

José A. Romero (He/They) Durham, NC

is an abolitionist organizer, immigrant defense strategist, and Poz Poet living in Durham, NC. The first in their bio-family born in the “US”, José is the descendant of working-class immigrants from Morazán, El Salvador and Michoacán, Mexico. Born in Washington State and raised between there and Michoacán, José’s political awakening arose while witnessing kindred femmes undo misogyny and while learning English to confront the borders their family endures. José moved to Philadelphia to attend the University of Pennsylvania where they were active in movements to confront anti-blackness/homophobia. In Durham they use their research background and direct-action experience to honor past, present, and future radical ancestors. Inspired by apocalypse and alchemy, José’s abolitionist organizing for black/brown flourishing includes work with Durham Beyond Policing, Durham’s Participatory Budgeting Steering Committee, and various immigrant/queer/trans defenders. They have worked on anti-deportation/sanctuary cases across NC and are a proud member of Southerner’s on New Ground working to end money bail, abolish ICE, and pleasurably undo anti-blackness in Latinx communities. José is currently Directing the first Latinx Southern Regional Health conference for the National Latino Commission on AIDS. They’re working on two collections of poetry titled ICEBREAKERSand POZITIVE. They are the host of an open mic series and queer friendship/dating party collectively called MELT. Aces Lira is an MSW/MA graduate student in Women Studies and Gender Studies at Loyola University Chicago. As a Research Assistant, he is based in the US Regional Network within the International Partnership for Queer Youth Resilience (INQYR) and is getting a foot in the door on all things research-related. Outside of the books, Aces orchestrates portraits along with art through different mediums and also lives for National Park excursions.

Marci Garcia (He/Him/His) Brownsville, TX

Sometimes life feels just like one of those theatrical plays or big screen movies; a bunch of dialogue, drama, adventure, tragedy and tears, and a lot of laughter and happy moments as well, all combined. My movie opens in Mexico, born and raised until the age of 10. I was a lucky boy that grew up in a very loving family; abuelos, tios, primos and my beautiful parents and brother always by my side. Still, I was a lonely kid. A kid that knew he was different and had a very a hard time fitting in, all the way through high school and college years. Never an obstacle to aspire to go out in the world and follow my dreams though. Today, I feel I am blessed and thankful to life for being different. I didn’t choose to be who I am, I just got lucky. Throughout my professional career I have wanted to find the place where I know I am not only getting a paycheck but also making a positive difference somehow. Again, through life’s unique way of arranging things I believe I have found that. I am currently part of an extraordinary non-profit organization whose goal is to provide sexual education, HIV prevention and wellness services to the community of South Texas. Being here truly inspires me to become more involved, gain knowledge and to help out combat the HIV stigma that is still out there. I know because I see it, I hear it, I live it. I believe I am working for this agency for a reason. I believe I am ready to accept and say who I am, what I am and what I aspire to become.

The Publishing Debacle

Recent reading, comments, and my own personal history with publishing and querying has got me thinking a lot about traditional publishing and the entire landscape surrounding it, as well as the nature of my own writing.

I am published. The Witch Market is the result of, if you had to categorize it, assisted self-publishing. What does that mean? To put it short, I entered a contest spun by a local small publishing branch, and I won second place. The company however, liked the three winning books so much that they decided to offer the first place prize to all of us— a full-ride with the company to publish our novels. I paid some money involved with The Witch Market, but only in regards to marketing and art— the latter of which I had really just commissioned for private use, though it ended up being included. I mention it though, because the amount of money I paid is nothing compared to what most indie self-publishing authors pay to get their book off the ground.

The Witch Market is the product of seventeen year-old Catherine. I wrote it during school, I’d never heard of beta reading outside of fanfic, and I was very new to the industry, despite having queried another novel when I was fourteen. (I actually got a bite for the entire manuscript then, which was a wild ride, but that’s another story). As much as I love The Witch Market, it never received the concrit it needed to succeed in today’s market, and it really needs a revamp at some point. The story and characters, particularly Cleophas, are too dear for me not to do this eventually. If anything, the experience taught me about self-publishing, about the rigorous rounds of editing that a manuscript should go through, and most importantly, in my opinion, it gave me the true and indescribable feeling of what it’s like to hold your own book in your hands.

I have always, always wanted to be traditionally published. I admittedly have a lot more respect for self-publishing now than I did when I first became aware of it— I used to view it as a cop out, an “easier” route, as though self-publishing isn’t an incredibly arduous, difficult journey that requires a ridiculous amount of work and determination. Self-publishing means being your own marketer, and I don’t have that in me. When I did book signings and promotional work for The Witch Market, I was lucky enough to have a mother with more drive and networking skills than I’ll ever be capable of.

Traditional publishing holds appeal to all of us because we want to dream of that one in a million chance where our writing really makes it; a Neil Gaiman, a Stephen King, a J.K. Rowling, a Susanne Collins, a Sarah J. Mass. Who wouldn’t want to be a career writer? That kind of success is the ideal, but it’s so few and far between. I think the other reason people aspire so much towards traditional publishing is the reach is brings. While it’s easier and easier nowadays to get your books far and wide with self-publishing, traditional will always have a more direct course to those avenues.

I have always said that I write for myself above anyone else, and I stand by that. There are many people who write with an audience in mind-- middle grade, young adult, new adult, on and on-- they have a target demographic. Some have even more in mind; from the beginning, they write with marketing and querying taken into account. They’re thinking about pacing, about what will sell, all while working on delivering the story they want. I’ve got a lot of respect and admiration for those people, but the more I think about it, the more I realize that’s not me and couldn’t be me, and that’s all right.

Of my work, I have a group of wips I think of as The Big Three: Bloodlines, Solene’s verse, and Star White. And the more I think about them, the more I realize that they do not lend themselves to the traditional publishing market, at least not with any ease. Of The Big Three, Star White is the story with the most mainstream, marketable plot line. A gentle boy falls in love with a grumpy boy, an evil being abducts the grumpy boy, and the gentle boy goes on a journey to find him. It’s sweet, it’s set in space, it has a fairy tale aspect to it. It can easily be written for YA, made into a not too bulky standalone, or even be broken into a trilogy. All together, it’s the best conceivable shot I have at successful traditional publishing. But the truest version of the story, the one I will write first, that I will write for myself (and maybe, ultimately, the only version of Star White that I’ll end up writing at all), is leaning farther and farther away from that formula. It’s becoming an odyssey of sorts, an introspective, single volume that follows a non-chronological timeline and spends a long, long time with Mateo as he drifts through the empty void of deep space with no one but the AI of his ship for company. It may even take on a philosophical bend, because a billion years spent searching for your love, not even knowing if he exists anymore outside of a dream, and in turn grappling with your own sense of existence; well, that doesn’t easily lend itself to the market. It deviates from a mainstream plot. But it’s the story I’m realizing I will write.

When it comes down to it, the story is what I write for, not the commercial value or traditional structure. Bloodlines, as it stands, does not align itself with a traditional story structure, something I’ve become more and more aware of with my beta readers’ comments in mind. I’ve written past the ending, or at least, past where the book would end in regards to similar stories. If I had gone into it with a specific structure in mind, if I’d been able to stick to it (because let’s face it, I did have a full outline for Bloodlines) then maybe I wouldn’t be faced with this conundrum. If I want Bloodlines to have a realistic shot at making it in the market, then I’ll need to cut a lot from the ending. The reason Bloodlines extends a good while after the climactic conflict is because I needed to show the effects of the trauma on the characters, their healing arcs, and give resolutions to the relationships as effected by the actions beforehand. If Bloodlines was focused more on the war between the Gelkins and the skin-changers, it could definitely end sooner, but it is focused instead on Victory and Enfriator’s relationship, and even more, I’ve realized, it is focused specifically on Victory. He is the core of the story in a way no one else is, and it feels only right to me to follow him.

I’ll likely still attempt to query Bloodlines. Traditional publishing is a dream of mine, but it may just really be a dream. I lack the ambition and the drive to push it any further, and in the end, the story is what’s important to me, and I won’t sacrifice its truth and integrity for a more conventional narrative structure. If I don’t find success with agents, which I expect at this point (I’ve shot myself in the foot with Bloodlines somewhat already, because I queried it a few years ago before any round of betas), then I’ll likely look to self-publishing avenues. I will do it though, not for exposure or revenue, but because I want to hold my book in my hands again, and because then I can give it to others, to the people who have read for me, who love my characters, who I want to share this story with.

I’m not meant to be a career writer. Maybe I still could be, someday. Anything’s possible after all. But my stories, at least for the foreseeable future, don’t lend themselves to traditional success. Solene’s verse especially will be a beast to conquer. The story contains a time jump that ages the characters and a setting that seems more fitting to the long-running sci-fi/fantasy series of the 1970s and 80s. Hebid is a world I am privileged to have insight on, and my knowledge and understanding of it will only grow. Solene’s verse will either end up a duology, or (more likely) a truly massive standalone encompassing a whole world; once again, not something that would ever be an easy sell today.

Will I try querying all of The Big Three? Yeah. I’ll probably even try querying The Witch Market again, once I’ve redone it. Somewhere out there are agents and publishers who don’t mind taking a chance on something unconventional. Will I find them? Maybe not. I don’t expect to. Writing and book selling is a business, I understand that. What I’m coming to realize though, is that I don’t need to be traditionally published in order to feel achievement. I just need to tell the stories as they come to me, in the best way I can. It’s my personal duty as a writer to do these characters justice, to illustrate their lives in all their turmoil and struggle and joy. I’m not at all insinuating that people who write with the publishing industry in mind don’t do the same thing; we all want to tell our stories in the best way. We just have different manners and methods and drives. The stories I write do not fit into typical molds. Maybe I could make them, like Star White, and maybe they would still be good. But that way is for other writers, other people not like me, and I’m content to walk to the beat of my own drum.

ZEP: S1 - CLARKEMAN ENDGAME

This is part of my ZEP: S1 Thoughts Master Post

Here’s the new & updated long analysis post for ZEP S1. This one features the whole season, all 12 episodes.

Just me...dissecting & analyzing the storyline...with focus on Zoey & Team Max. But since the stories are so intertwined, there’s Zoey/dad & Zoey/Simon talk, too. Among other things...relevant to it all...

ZEP: MAX & ZOEY - THOUGHTS 1 [LINK HERE]

WHY TEAM MAX IS ENDGAME

THE LOVE TRIANGLE

I hear the showrunner & the characters talk about a “love triangle”, yet I don’t see one (just confused, grieving people). I hear them talk about a deep emotional bond between Z&S, and yet I don’t see it on screen. I see a pretty shallow connection due to their dads - “grief bond” with no actual deeper connection. And though I personally don’t “feel” that they actually feel attraction to the other, I’m willing to admit that perhaps each truly thinks they do…and actually find the other attractive. But nonetheless the story, to me, has clearly been told in a way that showcases the differences of the two men in her life.

Since they all sing their innermost thoughts, and the songs are related to the feelings they have, and connected to the “problem” Zoey is supposed to help them with, then for Simon that seems to be “everything grief related” (he’s still not dealing with the loss, and it affected his relationship with Jessica..etc)…and I don’t understand why Zoey isn’t more actively helping him with that…instead focusing on “do I possibly have romantic feelings for the man?”, when she & Mo established that if she doesn’t help the person who she hears sing with their problem… that’s not good. I think THIS is the thing that has “confused” me. (but we all know network shows love their love triangles and such drama, so they have to play it like that..). So I really hope that in the coming eps we will see Z. help S. deal with his grief (she has her family, Mo & Max…who help her, but S. doesn’t seem to have any support system…) and “fix him”.

Good news for one team, perhaps not so good for the other team.

Based on everything we’ve seen on the show (the storytelling, the promotional materials, the spoilers)… everything points to Max/Zoey being the endgame. I’ve seen many fans (both those who support Team M & those who support Team S), say that they get the same message from the storytelling. It does seem to be the clear message from the show…no matter how they get there..or when…

The “proof”:

First: The actor who portrayes Max is billed higher (probably mostly cause he’s done more well-known musical projects before than the other actor), and he’s featured in much more promotional materials (promo pics, posters, promo videos…) and in more central role, than the other actor. The promotion is vastly focused on M/Z. They use those characters & actors… a lot…for promotion. That suggests only one thing.

Second: They told us the premise of Zoey’s future relationships in the Pilot already via this Max/Zoey conversation:

Zoey: I have a long history of — what do you call my past relationships again? –

Max: – “Unnecessarily complicated, exhausting for everybody, the opposite of good”?

Zoey: Yeah. Those things. Which is why this time I’m just gonna take things slow, and wait for the right “in”

And with Zoey/Simon thing has been just a repeat of her past experiences which she claims she doesn’t want to re-live again, and this show is all about her growth as a character/person, this cannot be the endgame. Even if they’d reveal that S/J have broken up… all that’s already happened has followed this exact description (see Max’s quote)

Third: While Zoey sang her heart song to Max and they had a moment for themselves (though..let’s be honest…they get interrupted so much that others in the office must’ve overheard a lot by now…), the heartsong to Simon seemed to be more like a setup for having Max see it. And while both songs are about her deepest, secret feelings/desires… and there’s truth in both, then the way the scenes were set up makes it seem like she sang to her best friend to make him aware of how she really feels (what he said in the previous ep: he needs to know/get a respose from her…and this gave him that). But the other song was meant to be overheard by her best friend…and that was the goal of the song/scene (not the song itself, but that he saw). Again pointing to the show going for Max as the endgame.

Fourth: The triangle is as follows: Both Max & Simon like Zoey, but she only really likes one of them. Both men sang heart songs to her (Max = I think I love you, Sucker, If I can’t have you, 500 miles), and she sang to both…but different songs. Simon sang “If you say that you are mine, I’ll be here ‘til the end of time” in 1x05, so it’s coming from his side. Zoey in 1x08 sang “I’m Yours” to Max (that her heart is his), but she sang “I want you to want me” to Simon (not that she wants him, but she wants him to want her). As her best friend explained it - one is about love, the other physical attraction. But… if you listen to the lyrics more closely then based on them she’s singing about how she saw S. crying & all alone (1x01) and how that affected her, compared to singing to M. how she’s “caught feelings”. So she’s only actually interested in Max, as her feelings for Simon are not mutual (beyond the grief bond). One is one-sided and more “superficial”, the other is mutual and more “serious”.

Fifth: While we’ve seen that Zoey thinks she’s caught feelings for Simon (what she told her mom at the engagement party), and she hasn’t really admitted this to anyone besides her mom, she seems to not see it as a good thing. She also claims to both Max & Simon that she doesn’t really have feelings for Simon/wasn’t aware of her feelings and/or that she’s basically over it… so kinda “little white lies”. She seems to think they have a sort of connection and/or she seems to find him attractive…despite realizing that it cannot happen because he’s engaged. (and before Simon went and took the wrong step, he said the right thing - they leaned too much on each other about their grief, and they should just go back to co-workers, and that’s all. Sadly…that was changed because of the “glitch” that mislead…people). But… we also saw that she is fighting against having feelings for the morally questionable engaged man, cause she probably realizes it’s a bad idea.

Sixth: All this time, but especially in the last episode, the show has tried to show the two men in her life differently, and show the differences in their “relationships” with Zoey. It’s a very classic “fairytale story” that follows often-used “clichees”. They’ve shown how the two are different, and how the connection between both “ships” is different. And everything points to them starting to make the difference even more clear. By now they all are aware of each others feelings…to some point… and both men are aware that they’re both competing for her interest.

And she’s aware that she is interested in both… but in different ways, and for different reasons. And again they used Max to vocalize the choice before her - will she choose physical attraction without deeper connection or love and deeper emotional connection…AKA “new attractive co-worker who went through what shes going through VS her best friend, who is always there for her…no matter what. The options were made clear, now it’s her decision. And it’ll depend a lot on how each man will act from now on…at the most difficult time in her life (she’s now really going to lose her dad).

If Simon will try to make advances based on the heart song she sang, which gave outmixed signals AND at the same time Max will continue being a good friend (as we saw in 1x08…despite their dispute) then that’ll make Z/S grow furher apart and Z/M grow closer. And since it’s all become too complicated and messy for everyone… then it’s very possible all this will get to Jessica, and break those two apart. But… that’s IMO gonna be the opposite from making the path clear for S/Z. To have Simon as a character grow they need to have him deal with his grief, and all that. The Simon vs Max thing is a lot like Leif/Tobin thing… where the peer reviews made one become sketchy and start playing games, and the other start working on bettering themselves. I expect similar differences of paths taken for S & M. Especially because we’ve not only seen Tobin 2.0, but also Max 2.0 (and we’ll see more of that..in coming eps)

Seventh: We ve heard spoilers than in the S1 finale there will be a “heart song” for/from/with one of the two and Zoey. From how the scene is decribed it sound more like something fitting to Max (Max/Zoey). Which fits with how the season and story has been built so far. That seems to also confirm where they’re taking it. Cause…they’ve established that just like on most shows the main character HAS TO have a love interest, and so far they’ve only introduced two options.

Other reasons why Zoey will most likely choose “love” over “physical attraction” (in the end, even if she’ll choose differently for now):

We saw Zoey’s reaction when she found out that S. had a SO/was engaged - she ran. And though she might find him attractive (physically)…as she found out via her heart song in 1x08, and she might feel a connection to him (because of the heart song she heard him sing in 1x01), she hasn’t shown interest in actually being with him… because she knows he’s taken. And also because she’s not really in the right place to start a relationship. She/They may not realize it, but they don’t have much more in common than grief - that’s the center of their bond (for now). Despite her interest/attraction to him & her thinking she “likes” him…

This is also why it’s easier for her to admit she has/had feelings for Simon, but she’s having trouble admitting…to herself (and Mo) & to Max that she may have feelings for her best friend. There’s nothing to lose with the first, but a lot to lose with the second. She’s afraid (and she varbalized it at the end of 1x07) that something could not go well… etc

While Max was not at all ready to meet his dates (Autumn) parents, because it’s a huge step and he just wan’t ready for it, he has met his best friends parents, and is welcome at their home. And there’s no feelings of meeting the parents being such “next level step”. We saw this when he brough her dad pudding to eat & when he helped carry the bed downstairs. It was also mentioned that he’s been part of the extended family for a while - welcome to family events (Christmas, barbeques..). Zoey’s father - the most important person in her life until now - is definitely on the man’s side, who brings him pudding (cause he’s paid attention that he can only eat soft food) and visits him & helps out. And her dad’s opinion is very important to Zoey, so…

She is completely at easy with Max seeing her with a facemask on, eating take-out, alone, at home, but she hides it (the true self) from Simon. She wears “a mask” with Simon, but doesn’t with Max. Same with how she didn’t tell Simon about her dad in 1x08 (brushing it off: hospital = lollipop), while telling Max that her dad had an apointment that morning. And though it did take her time to find the courage to tell him about it all in detail, she did..in the end. But from the start she shared the main info even if she didn’t tell what exactly happened and how she feels about it. She didn’t completely brush it off with him…even if the news made her unable to process and share it…right away.

We saw how she resisted her personal heart songs to Leif/Joan & to Simon, while being completely at ease with singing them to her best friend (Max) and her dad (Mitch). Cause if we leave out the big dance numbers (Crazy, Pressure), then she tried stopping herself from singing the others…the personal songs… and/or apologized for what’s to come…with Simon, too. But with Max (and her dad) the song just came to her…without the need to apologize or resist it. And afterwards she just tried to claim it didn’t mean as much, because she’s just in denial (and not really ready to start a relationship…because right now she is going through stages of grief). There’s a huge difference in both the heart songs she sang & HOW she sang them.

And we’ve seen that she really appreciates him as a friend, and as she told him - she can’t lose him as a friend…she needs him in her life. She cares about his feelings. She is afraid she gave him the wrong impression, she runs after him to explain things to him, because she knows that he got hurt. She actually cares about him…and is feelings (as a friend). And they’ve not shown the same reaction with Simon. And though the friends to one-sided to more-than-friends trope is “an overused clichee”, it isn’t necessarily bad. It can work well. Examples: Mondler on Friends, Peraltiago on B99…

Max may have the advantage of having known her longer, and knowing her better (because they’ve been friends for 5 years), and hence she’s more comfortable around him. And…that’s the reason why she let him in on her superpower secret, and why she tells him about…things. But… that’s precisely why she should and will choose Max over Simon. (He’s been there for her…always…and he continues to be there for her…through this hard time in her life.)

We saw how even though he was upset with her (for keeping secrets from him, from setting him up with someone else when she knew about his feelings for her…just because she didn’t dare to be honest with him & communicate…and hearing her sing to another person, too…) he was still there for her. A shoulder to lean on…literally and figuratively. He came to her rescue when she put her job at risk (singing Pressure), he gave her her mom’s message and supportive advice regarding her dad… And though there’s a hint of competitiveness that he seems to feel after the 1x07 elevator end scene (where we saw that both men seem to think they’ll be the end choice), and him wanting some kind of response from her, the 1x07 end scene and other moments have shown us that he’s willing to wait til she’s ready.

Especially…since in 1x07 he felt like it’s unfair that she can see into his heart and knows how he feels about her, he doesn’t. But in 1x08 he got to see into her heart (because even though she’d promised to always be honest with him from now on… she wasn’t fully… for a bit… and the “glitch” made her break her promise…til the evening), and it’s more “fair”. He now isn’t as in the dark, and less uncertain. I think the glitch was good for him, because he now knows how she really feels. All he wanted was an honest answer. And though it’s undertandable that he’s a bit hurt by what he’s heard & seen lately… but in the end it was beneficial. As Mo put it… he deserves an answer…no matter what it is…

I get the feeling that by now Zoey’s actually aware that she has feelings for her best friend. She might’ve not been aware of it all until he sang the first heart song to her, but after that we’ve clearly seen that she has either started to realize she actually has feelings for him or that she’s started to have feelings for him. She showed signs of jealousy when he was with Autumn (seeing them talking at the coffee shop, dancing at the club…). She couldn’t stop staring at him when she walked in during the Mo’ Makeover…indicating clearly that she finds him also physically attractive. Not to mention the emotional connection, and friendship. All the looks she gives him, her song & dance during “I’m Yours”… all for him…

And she cares about his feelings & not hurting him (running after him when he sees her heart song to Simon…) The look she has, when he brings her dad pudding & when she sees him with her dad or when she hears him sing “500 miles”, or the looks and giggles when she sings her heart song to him…. While she’s in no place in a relationship at this time, I think she’s realized that despite her grief and emotional state she’s developing feelings for her best friend.
