Of the 19 hijackers who carried out the Sept 11 attacks:
15 were from Saudi Arabia (a powerful/oil-rich country the U.S. works hard to maintain diplomatic relations with)
2 were from the United Arab Emirates (also a powerful/oil-rich country the U.S. works hard to maintain diplomatic relations with)
1 was from Egypt, 1 from Lebanon.
None of the hijackers were from Iraq.
None of the Sept 11 hijackers were Iraqi.
None of the 9/11 hijackers were from Iraq.

I know we've been clowning on Caleb for the potential that he hasn't learned Sending in six years despite access to the most extensive libraries in Wildemount and also a long-distance relationship, but I think there's an easier explanation. Considering that Caleb canonically has cast Mind Blank to keep a bitchy Assembly archmage from calling him, it's fairly reasonable to believe he's using it now.
As such it would be very on brand for him to be handing out Sending Stones because he's not about to put any random group of heroically-minded chucklefucks on his contact whitelist. He's been friends with Jester since she learned Sending. He knows better. The Hells can leave a message.

I love the scene where Josie and PJ are arguing. Idk maybe I'm reading into it too much but the fact PJ is wearing their friendship necklace while Josie is wearing a necklace with her own name on it is kind of genius. Josie is finally understanding herself as an individual while PJ is still stuck on their identity as a duo like she's being left behind and she knows it! Bc at that point everyone in the group has already formed a bond but it's obvious PJ struggles to connect on a deeper and personal level bc she wouldn't have reacted that way about the group disbanding if she was secure in her friendship with those girls unlike Hazel who clearly is which gives her another reason to make Hazel her punching bag. The stupid passing statements she makes, makes her sooooooo interesting like we know she goes to therapy, she has a deadbeat dad, and her mom owns a business but I need to know more of what makes PJ PJ.
I need Bottoms 2 that's PJ centric with endgame!Pjhazel and cutesy established relationship!Josiebel where they just annoy PJ the whole time for being in a happy relationship while PJ is going crazy about Hazel

Wally, standing on Clark's back midair: Clark I need you to know that this is the most inconvenient thing you could have possibly done. I mean, I respect the enthusiasm but come on man
Bart, lounging on Conner's back midair: We left a note and everything! We said "Hey there's a bunch of super fast aliens invading earth. Please stay here or they will kill you. We've totally got this. Thanks. Love you lots. Signed The Flash Family."
Wally: I don't understand why that didn't work
Ace, jumping on Jon's back to try and get him lower to the ground: Hey, so are we talking just to talk or can they hear us?
Wally: They wouldn't be able to make out any words but they can kinda hear us. At this speed our voices would just be extremely high pitched ringing in their ears.
Bart, watching Kon's face contort into a grimace in slow motion: Which is why we're talking. Cause it's SUPER ANNOYING, isn't it Kon? Good. Be annoyed Conner Kent. BE VERY ANNOYED.
Ace: Right. So. We can't move these guys because there's no leverage fifty feet in the air. And we can't leave them here like sitting ducks or they'll be killed. And they're moving like an inch a minute, no both of you shut up I don't care how long it actually is it's a minute to us, so what exactly are we supposed to do with them??
Wally&Bart:
Bart: Okay hear me out-
Wally: Oh god-
Bart: No, no, it's good. Maybe. Probably not but listen anyway.
Bart: What if we glue a bunch of cotton balls on them and try and pass them off as weird looking clouds?
Wally:
Ace:
Ace: I can see an art supply store from here.
Bart: Wally?
Wally: I'm thinking
Ace: You're thinking....?
Wally: I'm thinking that if they didn't want to be covered in glue and cotton balls then they should've read our note

tv show reccomendation: Scavengers Reign!
adult animated series on HBO Max about survivors of a spaceship wreck surviving on an alien planet, a pal originally pitched it as "Nausicaa meets Annihilation vibes" in terms of whimsy + body horror elements, and I think that both fits and is a compelling way to describe it. the plot isn't the most in depth but I think that allows the show to wrap everything up nicely in the 12 eps and maximize screen time on the best part which is the alien planet's ecology and worldbuilding.
it was also just very refreshing i feel like theres been a divide in western animation in recent years where a lot of "adult" shows are that way solely because they're crude/sexual/edgy, and meanwhile anything "whimsical" gets slotted into kid genres and is therefore limited in how far it can push anything. so its nice to get a show that balances whimsy with body horror elements without relying on like, sex or fart jokes.
also the last episode has a really gorgeous animation sequence nearish the end, you rarely see animation of earth-biology/geology/evolution done with such care and attention to detail, and it was really wonderful to see how much effort the writers/animators put into that aspect of the show and clearly loved it + wanted the viewer to love it too

I think what bugs me the most about the type of analysis that is common in this fandom is that sometimes people are obsessed with not actually looking at choices being made by characters and instead try to project extra-textual symbolism/parallels they pulled out of thin air or use essentialist arguments to predict a certain character’s trajectory. There is already a weird tendency to blame bloodlines instead of institutions, oppressive/destructive social constructs/systems, and abusive cycles. This series repeatedly deconstructs bio essentialist ideas in a multitude of ways. Characters being viewed as monsters for the way they are born is a concept that is repeatedly torn down. There is a combination of nature & nurture at play with these characters, I admit, but it is nuanced. Your environment and your nature are in constant conversation with each other. Certain environmental factors will worsen certain attributes, while repress others etc. Your blood is not evil, nor is it pure, it just is, and your nature will be affected by your rearing, tragedies you face, and the environment you live in. Monsters are created and developed, not born. This whole concept is apparent with all the siblings in the series. Dany & Viserys are drastically different people, and make different choices despite having similar experiences and the same blood. Same can be said for Joff, Myrcella, and Tommen. Another very good example are the Lannister siblings. The twins’ idea of “one soul in two bodies” is deconstructed, and they are faced with how dissimilar they actually are. All three siblings have differences in nature, as revealed by their behavior as young children & their current values and motivations, and they are all shaped very differently by their environment. Cersei is affected by the oppressive system of the patriarchy, Jaime by the trauma due to the violent construct of knighthood, and Tyrion by the rampant ableism of the world around him. Tywin also shapes them by giving each of them their own flavor of parental abuse based on the role he wants them to play in his legacy. It is so apparent just how these characters became what they are, and how they navigate their world as a result of a nuanced combination of nature and nurturer. But in the end, it comes down to choices that they keep making. Characters on the right path can also falter sometimes, weigh their values wrong, and make bad decisions at certain points. Not to mention how thoughts and words do not speak as much as actions and actual choices that are made do. You all take bio essentialist arguments that some characters in the text make at face value, even when it is obviously bullshit. Any analysis that hinges entirely on “this character is the son/daughter of this character”, or “this thing on the surface parallels this other thing from something I read/watched”, “this character is a dragon. Dragons plant no trees”, “this character is a monster”, “this character is from this house”, “this character is related to this character” etc instead of actually looking at what said characters do or try to do is gonna lead to unconvincing arguments that are antithetical to one of the main ideas that this series is built on. To me it feels like these books are communicating that in spite of your birth, your origin, your trauma, your prophecies, etc it is primarily your choices that lead you to where you are and the legacy that you create. Cersei’s prophecy will come true as a result of the choices she makes. Dany’s many prophecies are also as a result of choices she makes, she was not just gifted with everything that she has achieved, she is an active agent who makes choices that push her a certain direction. This is also why it is weird when everybody wants to make characters have a predetermined trajectory solely based on “what” they are, or who they are related to.

Not only does George say this in interviews, it is an explicit thesis statement in the text itself:
Tumblr media
This is the concluding statement of Jaime’s ASoS arc. Like “The things I do for love”, “So many vows...”, and “The heroes […] the best and the worst, and those who were a bit of both”, as extremely relevant it is to him in specific, it is a major thesis statement for the series as whole, and overlaps with many characters, just like how other characters also have a bunch of these overlapping arc theses. So can we please primarily look at the choices characters make and what ultimately motivated them to make these choices rather than thinking their ending and what they “are” as characters is set in stone because of the reasons mentioned. I feel like how you all engage with some of these characters contradicts the deconstruction of this kind of essentialism that is so apparent in these books.

i have head canons about the chips.
I feel like the preferred chip of a pallette or person is a clue to what they were before Sanitization or losing memories
Like Power chips are the preferred chip of soldiers, pure damage dealt to enemies in order to complete orders in a proficient manner
Those who prefer Support were more than likely non combatants but still on the battle field, like nurses or strategists (I also have a personal head canon that the Sticky Ink chip is something that can close wounds temporarily and that the chip in the tower is used defensively)
Range Chips are preferred by those who were snipers or backline, still powerful but from afar
Mobility chip users were likely spies or assassins, needing to get in and out super fast
Lucky chips are the favorite of the more reckless loose cannons of the military
And Drone chips are liked by those who were ethier mechanics or engineers or the like (like Marina)
Using this, in game Eight with their pallette preferring Power and Mobility chips, was probably some sort of soldier, maybe a bit more of an assassin, which makes sense for how Three and the Cap'n found them in Octo Expansion
I think it would be fun to figure out what your personal Eight would be considering what your preferred chips are. Looking at the app, Twirl (my Eight) prefers first and foremost Support, with the secondary being a tie of Drone and Power, which means she was probably a field medic with both fighting capabilities and the ability to fix broken machinery. A sturdy all around sort of gal

I always feel like I need to make agreeable characters when I play dnd. I really aspire to have something like what you have with Blythe. Cuz she's clearly a very strong personality that isn't afraid to be difficult to her party members, but she also isn't derailing the campaign by being a bad fit for the party. That's such an awesome balance to achieve!
HILARIOUSLY, Blythe actually is very well liked in the campaign for the most part, there is only one singular character that dislikes her (Kasimir - partially due to her clear relationship to Rahadin)I play her as a highly charismatic, sweet talking, playful woman that can absolutely play nice to grease the wheels.
While yes, people can see that is ...well crazy, it's very clear she is not malicious for no reason, which she isn't! Up until recently she was the only evil party member, so she balanced out when other party members didn't want to get their hands dirty but something needed to be done. She is Neutral Evil just meaning she can go do unsavoury things to achieve her goals, and if her goals align with the party...well power to them! They have someone absolutely fucking insane that WILL get the job done, morals aside!
The other point is that Blythe is diplomatic. She may be opinionated but she does her best to avoid violence, unless it's an 100% fight she can win, and even then. She prefers to conserve resources in this manner, to avoid conflict and talk her way out of problems.
Just because she has a strong personality, and is an evil character doesn't mean she will be at odds with the good characters; plenty evil characters hide their unsavoury traits behind closed doors and can spin them to seem like they're reasonable. She's a silver tongued devil so to speak.
Most characters just seem hesitant to approach her in a romantic manner in case she get's offended because she can cast fireball upon ye :/
That and well. Keeping up with the level of excitement she seeks in her life.
