I had some people a little curious as to how I rated the TWST boys in my "TWST guys I would let date my niece (theoretically)" post in terms of personality only (considering they're fictional and my niece is 10). I can't completely answer everyone since there's only so many words tumblr would let me write as a reply, so here's for anyone who was curious.
The rating system was created alongside my niece on what she wanted in a partner (as much as she understood dating, anyway), compatibility with her personality, and my input as someone who has either met, known, or fortunately and unfortunately dated ppl with such personalities. With this in mind, maybe our list would be different from how you would categorize, which yea fair enough. This is all hypothetical anyway and it was interesting to see what my niece likes.
This does NOT mean I dislike any of the TWST guy. Seeing how unique each of them are personality-wise is honestly amazing and I want to believe that even if you have what people call "red-flags", "dealbreakers" or "turn-offs", that doesn't necessarily make you a bad person, just incompatible (with exceptions of like really toxic, destructive traits, like stealing someone's dog. Don't do that, guys).
Has my seal of approval
Trey responsible, good work ethic, loves to bake + the bonus of cute glasses (apparently me and my niece really like glasses).
Kalim fun-loving, open to new experiences, optimistic, and willing to learn if you're willing to teach.
Silver kind if a bit intimidating-looking, takes care of others, family-oriented,
Jack responsible, good lifestyle, works hard, kind while kinda grumpy, family-oriented.
Vil responsible, good life habits, works hard for success, not stuck on gender norms, kind if sort of stuck-up.
Lilia mature, fun-loving, open to new experiences, loves kids, not quick to anger. He does have his secrets, tho.
Neige kind, works hard for success, not afraid to be silly,
Ok…but I’m keeping an eye on you
Ace he's kinda lazy and willing to cheat in school but not a bad person.
Cater not willing to be vulnerable sometimes but is a responsible person that respects boundaries.
Azul a bit too opportunistic (in a sense he's also judging the value of anything, first) for me and may not vibe well with my niece but not bad.
Jamil not happy with how he sometimes lies and insincerely flatters others, but I don't think he does it maliciously so not a bad guy(?)
Ortho prone to violence if he thinks that's the best logical solution (i.e, hacking into security and blowing up the school??) so kinda worried.
Chenya a little too fickle and in-and-out physically which worries me, but he seems loyal and brave.
First, you and I are gonna have a talk
Riddle mainly his temper and impatience…and the in-laws
Deuce also his temper, and my niece prefers smart ppl (ooff)
Ruggie the 5-finger discount don’t fly under my watch
Epel also temper and prone to get into fights in the beginning. Also, my niece's not into the "gotta be manly" mentality, what are you gonna do?
Sebek it's mostly the temper and shouting…and tone down the Malleus simping
Jade don’t be bringing drama into my household
Rook it’s the creepy simping
Malleus kinda seen in early Book 7 and the spectral realm event, he doesn't communicate and talk things through with others and just does things on his own because he's powerful enough to do so, which is just...something we gotta talk about, first.
Oh, you and I are gonna fight, first!
Leona spoiled to high heavens, gives up on a lot of things, and is too used to having things done for him. I'm not letting my niece become his maid!
Floyd No...just no. He's the friend that I worry my niece will someday have to pick up at the police station. No
Idia Quick to judge others, kinda thinks he's smarter than everyone, and has a hard time communicating and socializing even with his friends and partners. I know this because I used to date someone like Idia, and currently have a crush on another person very similar to him.
Rollo Also (sorta) dated someone like him which is...an experience. Treated me as someone pure and sweet, but disliked my friends because she thought they were bad influences. Also really wanted me to join her kinda sketchy religious thing which I wasn't really into.

hey sorry, i've got a maybe slightly unhinged question about veteri-mycosis but asking unhinged questions about ppl's fics/AUs is like my niche in the drecosystem so whatever. can dream communicate with sam through the skulk? i was reading a book about mycorrhizal networks and it seems like a thing that could be possible in the universe you've created, given what we know about IRL fungal communication and especially given that the skulk growing on/in dream is SAM'S, right???
:)
VETERI-MYCOSIS, EXTRA (??)SCENE(??) 1 read the full fic here
------------
Sam never saw colors before. He didn't even know how to imagine them, considering that no one's descriptions ever made sense.
Dream said that all the materials used for the main cell were dark. "Dark" wasn't a color per se, but a range of colors, and too much of it was disorienting for those with sight. Apparently. To rectify it, you could bring "light" into a space, which also wasn't a color, but it illuminated color where it existed. Dream needed light when he inspected the construction progress, but it didn't make the materials any less dark. It made no sense, really.
"Don't worry about it," Dream told him, "In all fairness, you probably get around better than I do."
It was possible to look at something and determine its beauty. Apparently. To a human, nothing could be beautiful in the dark unless it engaged another sense, like sound or smell. Music was still beautiful in the dark. Dream once said that the sculk had teal, glowing parts to it, and that he was able to find it beautiful.
Sam knew every puddle on the west side of the city. He knew when the frog that was hopping around in the north was frozen in place by sculk, and he knew the moment it died of suffocation, its lungs overtaken. He knew it all, and he never "saw" it. He never even "heard" it, really, or "smelled" it. He just knew. And it was beautiful.
It was helpful, honestly, when the sculk started to overcome Dream. Could there be a better way to monitor your prisoner? There wasn't much to monitor; he barely moved, and he eventually lost the energy and lung-power to engage in some of the things he used to do to entertain himself, like sing. Things could be beautiful in the dark if they engaged another sense, like sound. Sam listened, and it was beautiful. When it stopped, and Dream was so well claimed by sculk that Sam could sense his heartbeat from anywhere in the city, it was also beautiful.
In the midst of battle, Sam lost track of that heartbeat, but he received something else.
Visions of color; fuzzy and non-specific, but vivid and alive. Visions of pain, visions of panic, visions of crying and of being held. Technoblade's voice. Warm food and tea. The soft fur of dogs-- much like Fran's.
Could there be a better way to monitor your prisoner?
(Dream had frequent flashbacks to the prison. More than just the prison; he had memories of the city itself, of the places he'd visit when the prison was still being built, of sculk-ridden buildings he thought he never stepped foot in. He knew his memory was ruined, but it still seemed odd. In these flashbacks, he wasn't even holding a torch. He walked around like he didn't need them.
There was a frog that was hopping around in the north that was frozen in place by sculk, and he knew the moment it died of suffocation, its lungs overtaken. The soft fur of a dog-- much like Em's. He knew. He knew.)
He knew.

yea it's really kinda fucked up what kind of attitudes people of various professions have towards hyper mobility in itself and what it could be connected to. like I had a friend who dislocated her shoulders maybe once a week and we overheard the adults talk about how the medical conclusion seemed to be "hmm, is this kid being abused" rather than "maybe there is a reason this kid dislocates her shoulders every time she tries to hang from something". and then my teacher, when I went to school, just straight up told us that joints overextending just means we've got weak muscles and having a specific kind of posture means we are in bad shape (kids! we were kids! not even pre-teens yet wtf?) and then later on a personal trainer kind of person declared I am NOT hyper mobile because apparently my hands didn't align a certain way she was looking for? like I can sublux my shoulders at will, have to walk a certain way to keep my knees aligned, lock up my fingers doing certain activities etc and apparently maybe have some extra wear and tear here and there from this sort of shit, but you got it, pal 🙄
honestly I don't understand what's so hard for ppl to comprehend like your body's right there and it's doing this thing and then ppl keep going "oh, idk, maybe this isn't a thing?" like ???
Oh my god, that's immensely fucked up. I'm sorry you have awful medical professionals like that in your life... Truly, you deserve better!
I absolutely think 'oh you can just exercise away EDS/HSD in general' is a massive oversimplification. Strength building exercise has HUGE benefits for hypermobile folks, don't get me wrong! But exercise doesn't do jack shit about internal organ problems, or get rid of long-term damage that's already been done to nerves or joints? And frankly, if you are severely unstable, it can absolutely make it worse.
Like..... I am muscular. I work out A LOT, and have done for years. I have a lot of visible muscle! I have very little body fat, but what weight I carry, is muscle. It just......... only gets me to the approximate strength of an 'average' person, and my joints are still very weak and give out regularly.
My physio still wants me to work out even more to add more muscle mass, for what amounts, all together considering my personal exrcise plan, to 2+ hours a day (approximately 1 hour of work out and 1 hour of physio) just to maintain my ability to walk dodgily and not lose further functionality & sensation in my legs.
Like... That's completely unfeasible considering I also have a day job with up to 12 hour shifts, chronic fatigue and pain AND exercise intolerance??
The 'exercise' solution just feels like a super-handy way for health professionals to put all the pressure on the individuals to manage their own condition, with completely unrealistic expectations, and minimise the amount of care they actually provide. Like, I know EDS is a genetic incurable condition and there's literally nothing else you can do except brace, rest lots, gain muscle, exercise, and treat the internal problems as they occur. But. Sigh. A little appreciation of how that's impossible for most people living with this condition would be better than the usual 'oh this will be cured by exercise so it's not actually a problem :)' bullshit.
But.... yeah. Shit's fucking wild. I'm truly sorry you and your friends dealt with that. Keep on troopin'. You know your body better than any health professional you see for a fifteen fucking minute appointment. x

I think what gets me the most about the whole R*nance thing is that mostly Nancy stans proclaim Steve would be 100% fine, plan their wedding and if not he's a bad friend for apparently not wanting Robin to be happy. Like idk if those people have best friends themselves, but would you not feel fucking betrayed if your bff would date your ex? Especially when they know you still have some feelings for them? It's just so fucked honestly. Also them saying Nancy is the only person who would get Robin, like Steve literally doesn't exist. You want Nancy to date Steve's bff, you can't complain that he's there or that maybe some complications would arise with this relationship. It's like they don't consider other ppl, like R*nance is so removed from the narrative in order to truly work. Because like in real life people and situations would influence the relationship. And again Robin would never risk her relationship with Steve, he is her number one person, Nancy will never get to this level. Robin trying to look out for Steve and taking his feelings into account is literally a normal thing bff should do. And that's also not making the relationship about a man, like Robin and Steve come in pairs, they are a package deal. Nancy and Robin only know each other through Steve, they only talk because of Steve and the UD.
oh my god SAME!!! like it pisses me off how so many people just expect steve to be okay and feel 100% happy about all of this. it’s like so you want people to not have emotions? cuz it just sounds like no one is allowed to have emotions with these people. and they’ll immediately see steve as the bad guy if he has some negative feelings around his bestie dating his ex - like huh what? they would absolutely feel betrayed i guarantee you.
i never knew they said that about nancy is the only one who would get robin WHICH CANON DIRECTLY SHOWS THAT NANCY DOESNT UNDERSTAND ROBIN AT ALL!!!! like that just gets me sooo fucking pissed off. literally about all of that like people want his bestie to date his ex and then have the nerve to be like ‘well okay but you need to stop having him in this equation’ HES IN THIS EQUATION BECAUSE HE IS ROBIN’S FRIEND - PLATONIC SOULMATE - THE ONE WHO SHE WANTS TO COMBINE WITH!!! like just the audacity of saying this as if robin would just forget the feelings of someone that completely and wholly understands her.
oh my god you’re soo right! like r/nance does feel so removed like idk i’ve tried to see them working out (even removing steve from the equation) and i just cannot see any way that those two would actually be happy as couple together. it just - they’re personalities do not work (at least to me)
yep like it’s a normal and considerate thing to do yet so many people are acting like it’s heinous or some shit. like i get not jeopardizing your happiness for a friendship and if one of your friends has a problem with someone you don’t have to immediately hate that person. with this though there’s sooo much more with that because 1. nancy literally has a boyfriend rn 2. robin herself was making comments about stancy this season that seemed encouraging for them to get together so she saw steve have feelings for nancy and then had to comfort him at the end. so with these two things as evidence i genuinely don’t see how robin would even want to try to get with nancy. also like i even have a hard time imagining robin coming out to nancy - i can just see her be so paranoid about it so i have an even harder time imagining her being able to stay in a romance with nancy.
literally preach!! steve and robin are a package deal which is very clear in fucking canon. and yep nancy and robin only know each other because of the ud and steve!!!

hhhhhh so the party drama is basically: only ppl who remembered their ids could get served (or like. actually had em in the first place. i don't have one) but loads of ppl went for pre-drinks anyway so it was pretty much "act as sober as possible so the hired bouncers actually let you in". so like fast forward 2 hours into the night, some mutual-friend-ish people start completely going off on one of my close friends (about something they willfully made a bad faith jnterpretation of what she said), i had to chase her down the street bc she ran away crying and i caught up, we had to spend a decent amount of time calming her down, went on a big long walk around the town bc i used to live there so i knew where to go. came back and it was mainly fine bc there was only like an hour left before it closed. arrived back for a really fucking good song. anyway a friend of friend also went through major drama with her friends, my friends boyfriend got two hip flasks confiscated which was whole thing (got them back at the end of the night). at the end of the night when everyone was standing around waiting to get picked up it was basically a bunch of people like "who has a lighter!!!!" and a circle of them attempting to light cigarettes. spoke to ppl i never normally speak to, guy I've known since i was six found out i vaped/drank and seemed to be going through it (everyone is always so shocked?) and i took a couple drags of my friends cigarette to really complete the image. two of my friends tried smoking for the first time. there was apparently someone who had had a crush on some girl for ages and he finally made his move at the end of the night so everyone was not subtly watching to see what happened. apparently there's a whole "breakdown of all the shit that happened" scheduled for monday. oh, and apparently the guy who was surprised i was doing typical party shit told my friend + her boyfriend he had a ccrush on me (my friend instantly ran over to tell me under the guise of wanting a vape/giving me vodka so rip to him. i don't think he knows i know). honestly he has like. not much of a chance considering im a) an emotional brick wall b) he seems to be nicer when he's tipsy than when he's sober c) im aromantic and i haven't decided if id want a relationship at all or not and d) last night was the first major conversation we'd had in a good few years and he doesn't speak to me normally. so im kinda gonna have to root for him on this since his chances are so low. it's kinda funny (i said to my friend that her bf could give him my snap if he really wanted bc it would be funny to see how this plays out). also someone got kicked out pretty much instantly and some people had definitely taken stronger shit than alcohol, either that or they were just incredibly incredibly wasted. also props to the bar staff + bouncers for putting up with a room full of teens yelling the wap, baseline junkie, before he cheats, and low at the top of their lungs. and i have no idea how some people didn't freeze in their outfits. and someone was wearing a giant inflatable penis costume. so yeah monday is gonna be interesting

I’ve been reading the Locke Lamora/Gentlemen Bastard series, and like-
the first one I tore through, I really really enjoyed it, but I had some criticisms about how it handled its female character (or lack thereof…) and felt like the world-building of this as a world without sexism did not succeed. Like the author seemed to have an extremely shallow understanding of what sexism actually is, so his attempts to write a world without sexism fell really flat. It's not enough to just be like yeah women are allowed to have jobs! (honestly I could go so much more into detail on why I felt like this aspect of the story failed. maybe another post.)
The second book I thought was way better (altho still flawed) w/ regards to female characters - but was also an overall less enjoyable read. the pacing was really uneven, the worldbuilding wasn't as good (Tal Verrar is just like Camorr 2.0, and what is the author's fixation on cities with multiple/major waterways. very weird.), and it was just less compelling and entertaining...but was still totally readable!
I'm reading the third one now and it’s like. All the worst traits of the previous two combined. Way more sexism (Locke says the word "bitch" like every other page, and that's the least of it! Let's not even get into the fact that he's basically stalking Sabetha and we're apparently supposed to think that's romantic!) and also far less entertaining/compelling. I’m honestly struggling to get through it! It seems ridiculous to DNF on the third and final book in the series but I’m straight up NOT enjoying it! I can only read for like ten minute increments before I get bored and/or pissed off. What happened here!
esp with regards to the sexism, I’m so baffled! The prior books were clearly trying to not be sexist. I didn’t think they succeeded, but props for trying, and again the second book had a lot of improvements over the first, even if Ezri getting fridged was disappointing. So why is this book so much worse, both with regards to the setting being more sexist, and the actual story/characters being more sexist? What the fuck happened here? I’m so disappointed.
I'm reading goodreads reviews while I write this post and several reviews comment are like "Oh the plot is more boring in this one but the characterization and dialogue are are really great!" But I've been sitting here thinking that the characterization and the dialogue are really weak in this book, so, yikes! if those are supposed to be the strong points??? ppl keep being like ohhh the dialogue is SO witty, but like a) I personally don't feel like locke swearing at ppl and describing weird sex acts or talking about excrement is particularly witty, and b) I keep feeling like the characters are just quipping rather than having Conversations. and don't get me wrong, I love quips, I'm a quippy person, I know a lot of ppl are anti-quip these days but I'm not one. but damn it can go too far and feel forced and artificial, and I think this book suffers from that. esp when, again, the quips are not very good quips but instead mostly just ppl being vulgar. and the characterization is just so flat.
(it's not that being vulgar is wrong you understand, but it doesn't replace cleverness. an insult is not inherently clever or amusing just because it references an obscene sex act. you can be obscene and clever, but obscenity is not inherently clever.)
and also apparently this isn't the last book, but is setting up a fourth book....
so yeah I don't think I can do this. I gotta DNF this book. the only reason i was considering pushing through was to finish the series out, and if there's a whole additional book, and each book has been increasingly low quality so far, then yeah I'm not interested anymore. so disappointing considering how much I loved the first book. such is life, I guess :(

about chinese speaking radfems calling you a westerner, they tend to do that for absolutely everyone outside of east asia and don't actually consider south asia to be asia so i think that's why that one said "westerners are obsessed with asia" in regards to you because to them you actually are a westerner (english speaker or from non east asian country) and you are also not from what they know and are taught to be asia. a lot of east asian countries don't even teach that south asia is asia in schools, it's mostly just called the middle east and india. - just a perspective on that from someone who grew up in asia and didn't even know south asia was called that until i moved to america as an adult ^^;
idk lol i mentioned that to my gf too and she said “but you’re not a westerner” and didn’t seem to think asserting to the contrary makes any sense. so like. i think they literally thought i was a westerner rather than thinking that apparently everywhere but east asia = west (which would be ridiculous ngl)
if it’s about me being an english speaker then that’s also weird bc plenty of east asians do speak english… in fact the specific group we were talking about, singaporeans, often not only speak english but speak english as their first language (key word: often, not all or most, just often) which is a step up from me (ESL). BUT i can understand making such an assumption, to a degree
my gf said the same thing u did at the end tho— she said she didn’t even know the middle east was almost entirely in asia until learning that from me. in that case idk what to say to ppl like this— a quick look at a map will show that we are indeed in the same continent (just in different sections). but honestly i think they didn’t even bother reading my bio or anything, so they just assumed i’m some european or something. bc when i clarified that i AM from asia one of them was like “so you’re chinese???”… which obviously im not 😭 to be fair i don’t tend to judge people for not knowing we are from asia too lol because even in bahrain, we don’t really get taught that 💀 i thought the middle east was its own thing until i was a teenager i think, then i learned that that’s not how it works.

For the Madara request, could I get some romantic fluff for him?
I'm ace and it's really hard to find things for him that don't get very sexual and I'd love something that does not go beyond pecks you know?
Maybe brushing his hair scene? It's very self indulgence here bc unlike most ppl I headcanon his hair to be very damaged and messy, you don't throw all those fire jutsu with no heat damage you know? Little teasing about that would be nice 💖
No physical preferences, with this you don't need to specifiy gender either, you can keep it as vague as possible so it's more relatable for others too
Thanks so much for the ask! I loved writing something this sweet and affectionate. I hope you enjoy!

Madara x Reader
cw: fluff, hair-combing, romantic affection, pet names, mild cuddling
Tumblr media
It was clear Madara didn’t care too much about his appearance around you.
Certainly, he cared enough to impress you, or at least to look presentable. He wouldn’t describe himself as high-maintenance. But you knew better.
Considering he was the clanhead, it sort of baffled you that he didn’t take better care of his hair. His long hair was a symbol of tradition and honor in the clan, and as the clanhead, it was odd that he didn’t seem too interested in upholding that, despite his conviction to his people. After a while, you came to suppose that Madara just had his own way of doing things.
Still, that way had some clumsy side-effects. Fire style jutsus were unforgiving toward everything they touched, and that also sometimes included hair. Madara had no shortage of hair, and because he never took the time to tie it up during combat (something about not “interrupting the flow of chakra”), it could quite easily get fried. On top of that, his hair was wavy, nearly curly, and that made the damage far worse.
You had brought this up before. Even as recently as last week. Though he appreciated your concerns, he didn’t make time to take care of it. So, you had taken the liberty of buying some hair oils.
And, that night, you sprang it upon him.
“I found some rejuvenating oils today.”
He nodded in acknowledgement, not looking up from the scrolls he was studying. You continued.
“If you want, I can work them through your hair while you read.”
He slowly tore his gaze away from the scroll, clearly trying to process two things at once. “My hair?”
You gave him a look. “You’re singed, love.”
“Singed?” He blinked innocently and looked over his shoulder at the ends of his hair. You laughed.
“Yes.”
“Really.” He pulled a handful of hair over his shoulder to inspect closer. You were already approaching with your supplies. As you knelt behind him, he glanced over what all you brought.
“Scissors?” he inquired.
“Some of it can’t be saved.”
Still, he was in disbelief as to how much was damaged. “How much?”
“I’ll see.”
“Not everything, right?”
“No, not everything.”
He nodded as you sorted through the most damaged sections. You snipped off a few chunks and softened the ends. It really was quite a shame he didn’t take better care of this mane. It was the envy of all his clanspeople.
“How bad is it?” He sounded nonchalant. Madara always sounded rather unconcerned about things. It was something he even intended to do. Most of the time, it was convincing. But right now, you could tell he was worrying, even if only a little.
“It’s like the aftermath of a battle.”
You were only teasing. Although he perhaps tried to hide it, you could feel him tense up. You rubbed his back in reassurance, his soft locks bunching effortlessly between your fingers.
“It’s fine,” you whispered, chuckling gently. “It won’t look any different, I promise.” If he didn’t notice the burnt hair, he probably wouldn’t notice the absence of it either.
He sighed with a smile, glancing back at you with that look. He was softer than most people realized. He enjoyed things like this, even though he didn’t take the time to do them himself. And he always had a way of making you feel appreciated. He was so easy to be near. Honestly, it was easy both of you.
You put aside the scissors, exchanging them for the comb. This wasn’t the first time you helped him with his hair, and it wouldn’t be the last. You didn’t mind that one bit. It was clear this felt just as good for him as it did for you.
Once the comb pulled through easily, it was on to the oil. You rubbed some between your hands, inhaling the fragrant smell of camellia.
“Don’t put too much in there,” Madara murmured calmly. “I don’t want to make my hair more flammable than it apparently already is.” Even from this angle, you could see the smile in his cheeks. It was contagious; as you went back to work, a smile adorned your face, too. You almost wanted to hug him. And as you smoothed the oil through his locks, a beautiful sheen began to accent his waves.
“I’ll braid it,” you assured him. “Just to keep the moisture in.” And that would protect the hair from further damage, too, you knew. It was worth another shot to ask him. “If you want, you can keep it in the braid, too. It will help prevent damage.”
“You’ll have to teach me how to do it.” Much more accepting.
“I can braid it before you leave next.” Easy. Your hands started to gather his hair into three thick sections.
“Thank you.” His voice had become even more tender now. Soon, he would likely be getting cuddly, too. He tended to get that way when his voice turned that gentle. For a war-hardened clanhead, he truly was the most gentle person you knew.
Down his back, you continued the braid until the curly ends. Once it was secured, Madara gently pulled the plait it forward to inspect it. It was like draping a thick snake over his shoulder, shiny and black and beautiful. His smile was small, almost bashful. He got like this too whenever you helped him with his hair. He could never quite look you in the eye by the time you finished. It made him go red in the face, and quite speechless.
You didn’t tease him for it. You liked his gentleness. And without a word or a nod, you scooted up next to him and stretched out on the floor. With your head rested on his lap, you could see all his scrolls laid out. Some of them you could faintly read, and others not.
He murmured overhead. “Thank you, my dove.”
When Madara got flustered, he really got flustered. His voice would hardly come out. It only made you smile.
Briefly, you glanced up at him. His hand came down to rest on your shoulder in a gentle caress, but his eyes were still fixated upon his braid. He was perhaps in wonder over how shiny it looked.
You contained a chuckle and relaxed your head again. Closing your eyes, you finally allowed yourself to deeply inhale, filling your nose with the sweet scent of camellia. You wouldn’t mind doing this more often, burnt hair aside. And you had a feeling Madara would make time for this now, even if he didn’t care much about the look of his hair -- perhaps, because, more importantly, it involved you.

Just seen a post like "y r reylos upset? they kissed. I have a ship where they don't even meet" and I was ready to go "I Don't Know How To Explain To You That knowingly shipping a crackship and seeing a ship that's been set up since the beginning get turned into some emotionally manipulative little trick by hacks who dgaf abt the characters and only want to cash in on every single part of the fandom are very different things." But I gave up. Not worth the effort.
it’s not, but... honestly?
this thing is... like... I don’t want to say mildly worrying me, but... it is. (beware the next post won’t probably make much sense but bear with me this thing isn’t sitting well with me lmao)
I mean, like, let’s get it out of the way that I didn’t care for reylo either way until tlj and post-tlj I was like ‘oh okay they’re definitely the romance of the trilogy fine sounds nice I’ll be here being happy for them when they inevitably kiss’, because it’s like.. star... wars. I mean. sw is like the one franchise that until five days ago I’d have cashed in on being the ONE thing that would always end up cheesy/hopeful/not disappointing you know, so... I didn’t even consider that there was another way it could end. because it’s goddamn sw, redemption stories with happy endings are the damned brand.
so like... the fact that the thing was obviously set up and they tore it to shreds along with everything else in the movie is bad. like, bad. but people who didn’t realize how fucking insulting it was just... don’t seem to get that the moment you go watch movies whose brand is making you feel better about things and they turn into calvinism central NO HAPPINESS ALLOWED and they don’t even do it with sense - bc rots made no fucking sense at any point ever and that’s outside reylo - it just... makes you feel betrayed? like, again: in 2015 when I came out of the cinema the only thing I banked on was poe dameron not dying and I couldn’t care either way about kylo ren, but like - tlj made me care. as it was supposed to be. I was supposed to care about kylo ren’s pull to the light and guess what I did because that movie wanted me to, and it wanted me to do 2+2 and realize that he and rey were soulmates and fine I was down with that because I like myself a nice love story.
and then like... you give it to me, like that, and the moment you have the character who has had a shitty life, has been groomed since he was born if not before by Worst Person In The Galaxy if the new canon wants me to buy that - or by snoke but it’s the same -, is an abuse victim and is 100% sure that everyone hates him and no one understands him or wants to understand him, you make that character related to one of the most iconic ones in the franchise to the point that you tried to make han every other member of the trio tbh, you actually have that character taking his life in his hands after talking to han and like embrace what he always wanted to be and show that he’s actually happy with it (like ffs guys it’s also probs because adam driver is an excellent actor but you can see the ben solo vs kylo ren difference in the span of five seconds, and you’re supposed to root for ben solo to win ffs), have him actually win, have him being happy for the first time in the entire canon and then you kill him a second later with rey in tears over it except that then we forget to give him a funeral........... like.......... sorry but I feel robbed because as lowkey as my effort on banking on ben solo’s redemption was because I was sure it was coming and I took it for granted it still felt like they were being unnecessarily cruel. like, they could have killed him in ten other ways that wouldn’t make you feel like someone stabbed you in the kidney as another anon put it. but no, let’s give people the prospect of HEY THEY’LL BE HAPPY just to tear it away from them ten seconds later. like, what the fuck? that’s not what anyone signed up for.
especially when the entire thing was obviously set up for the happy ending. like, if you actually misread the audience so much that you think star wars audience wants grimdark when it’s a movie marketed at children then you don’t deserve the money you’re most likely getting paid.
like, again: as someone who wasn’t even diehard reylo or whatever even if I absolutely shipped it, I felt like these assholes took my money and punched me in the kidney since rey palpatine was a thing and the moment he died I about screamed fuck you out loud... along with most of the entire room which was screaming fuck you, because guess what, not a single person in that room actually was banking on the ben solo redemption to fail and each single person in the room was clapping when they kissed because we were fucking waiting for it already, and like......... obviously ppl shipping it are upset. they were given an unsatisfactory movie up until then that didn’t give the characters justice but which could have still been more or less decent if it saved the spirit of the entire thing... which it didn’t because sw is not fucking calvinist central and hasn’t ever been until now. and then they were given canon after being the target of the vilest shit (guys seriously I unfollowed antireylo people way before shipping reylo myself bc that crap was out of line for shipping fictional stuff)... just to have them take it away by killing the one character that was there to show you that there’s always hope for you to do the right thing?
like, let’s be fucking real: the message is that if you fucked up and want to be better it won’t ever be enough because sorry but you’ll never get another good start and if you care about someone who fucked up and want to help them be better it’s wasted time because people who want to do better can’t actually live and have a chance to keep on doing it.
and sorry but fuck that message with a chainsaw. the beautiful thing about this ship imvho was that in tlj it made it overtly clear how rey helped him out of being a genuinely nice person who listened to someone who thought no one ever would and at the same time kylo/ben couldn’t believe that someone actually said that he wouldn’t be alone either bc the two of them are extremely lonely people and feel that acutely....... and they even threw in the soul bond to make it extra obvious. it was a hopeful story because you had girl who never had anyone who was also innately good who could put her prejudices aside to see that someone who also went dark side because he thought no one loved him and then kept on being abused his entire life actually had good inside them and wanted to help him see that instead of writing him off as a lost cause. like. that was a good romance. nothing exceedingly new under the sun, but in sw it was pretty fresh and a good spin compared to the two other main love stories of the trilogy. also, anakin/padme was what it was and han/leia was immensely better but hey someone decided to kill off the entire original trio so whatever... and if these two ended well they’d have been a constant improvement, never mind the symbolism - you had anakin who was a no one and married a space princess but ended up tragically because he went to the dark side and she could do nothing for him, then anakin’s daughter who was a space princess and married han who is also technically a no one since he didn’t even have a surname on his home planet, and if rey/ben had actually not.. had that ending you’d have closed the circle with space prince descended from both anakin and leia being brought back from the dark side with the help of another no one and finally the damned skywalker line would have gotten one 100% happy ending because it was supposed to be the ending.
like.
that’s something that thematically made so much sense I didn’t even think they wouldn’t do it.
and they did. and guess what of course people are pissed. because this movie about ignored themes, its own canon (from tfa and tlj) and didn’t accomplish one single thing except chewie getting his damned medal.
which, while something we all hoped would happen at some point, is hardly the one thing you should accomplish in a star wars movie supposed to end the goddamned cycle and which eventually ended up being prequel-level if not worse. because I mean, objectively I think the phantom menace was actually a better movie, and I would rewatch this over 2 and 3 just because the cgi in this movie didn’t hurt my eyes, but as bad as lucas got with the prequels, he never did a single character as dirty as disney did all the characters here. no, not even padme, and he did do padme dirty.
tldr: if people don’t get why you’d be pissed at how this movie ended idk what to tell them... but shit if it’s not worrying me that people apparently can’t get that it was a disaster on each single level it could have been. peace.

Hi this is the same anon! Thank you for answering so eloquently, and adressing many points :) I really hope you don't mind me giving my (long ass) answer, but I'm very glad that someone is actually willing to discuss it🙏 Quickly wanted to say I don't know why ppl are bashing those who choose to support him, everyone is allowed to have an opinion and I think everyone knows that Seb doesn't know any of us. I'm still trying to see where I stand but what I can say is that I would never want to 'cancel' anyone for 'woke points', and I definitely know that no one is perfect, especially if they're getting torn apart under the public eye! I'm also trying my best not to get dragged by this angry mob, because I feel like this should be carefully thought through and considered, and I do think I let it sway me tbh seeing that some people I follow stated that if you continue to support him they want nothing to do with those people.
I agree with the point that being critical of people/their actions should be consistent. Of course people would not bring it up as much if the mentioned people weren't associated with Sebastian just because they are not as famous/known as him. I do think people are holding him to a higher standart again bc he is a celebrity and nowadays if you have a public presence you are held responsible for a lot of things and are expected to make your opinions known. I honestly don't care about Seb playing Tommy Lee, because he is simply portraying him, however I have heard that some are angry because Pamela doesn't agree with this show being made and that it adds to her trauma. His gf apparently has pr contract so I'm not gonna say anything about that either. As for his friends/co-workers, I don't think he should be held responsible or answer for their actions, but I do find it a bit discouraging to see him associated with that many 'problematic' people, apparently Don Saladino is republican, one of his friends made anti-black posts, and he traveled to attend a baby shower of his friend 'Jessica Szohr'. However I cannot actually prove these things, it's just what has been brought up and it took me aback because I did not know that there was so much, you know? Again, why I'm treading carefully since we don't know what's going on behind the scenes and it's possible he really has bad luck of falling in the same circle as those people.
The organization did post the blue lives matter thing after he showed his support for them, and honestly I think he probably didn't see it! Also yeah, I hate how all these white male actors jumped in to save Chris Pratt when Don, Brie and Chadwick were getting so much hate but no one said anything about them. I saw the Chris Evans thing too and don't like it, people are saying "he's trying to be neutral and give everyone a platform", as for Mark Ruffalo.. I saw that he sadly backpedaled with his support for Palestine :/ I didn't know about Letitia tho!
What I struggled with the most is the video. I think the video really just made me iffy, because to me it seemed like Joshua's friends were giving him a pass at the end, but I genuinely can't tell if they're joking, bc I'm bad at reading language! I don't know why Seb would 'like' that video and ofc no one can know if he agrees with the content based on a double tap. I'm stil unsure about that part.
Thank you again for answering!!❤️
You figuring out where you stand is completely up to you, nonnie. Just don't wind yourself up about it.
Thanks for talking to me 💜

100% agree with you about the misogyny in seb's fandom. I don't think I've ever cared who he's dated. I had to take a step back from him tho bc of *his* actions. He's taken *3* international beach trips in 4 months in the middle of a pandemic. Two of which are being used as loopholes to get his gf in the u.s. which has me side eyeing that aspect, but even then they're not quarantining properly in a high risk country before coming here. That's *my* issue w him rn-Covid needs to be taken seriously
yeah, i’ve not either. nor have i with any of the male celebrities i’ve been fans of, their private life has never been mine or any other fan’s business imo.
but of course, i’m still shellshocked from being a fan of benedict Cumberbatch and the treatment of his wife. which, even in fandom standards, is just mindblowing. and so when i see this behaviour by another man’s fans, i get on edge. and frankly, i don’t give a sh*t if she actually did smt r*cist 5 yrs ago, bc that’s also a huge problem, the way the left, which i assume most all sensible ppl to be on, behaves like ‘one strike and you’re out’, you’re not allowed to learn and grow, ever.
although, you know, hemsworth donned a warbonnet a few yrs ago, and apologised, but then he’s a guy, so. james gunn wrote ph*ophilic tweets, but eh, let him come back. rdj did ACTUAL bl*ckface in a movie, but hey, he’s fine. oh, and y’know, henry cavill basically said it was dangerous to approach a woman after #metoo, and that ‘a woman should be chased’. but he’s everyone’s f*cking darling. jason momoa said he ‘was lucky to get to rape beautiful women’ at a con. benedict cumberbatch used the word ‘col*ured’ in an interview back in, i wanna say 2013, yeah, he was crucified then, even if the word doesn’t have the same connotations in the UK, but eh, i can’t say i’ve heard much abt it since. anthony mackie? he said ‘a woman’s role is to make a man a sandwich’. but he seems all the f*cking rage these days. (i’m doing these off the top of my head, so there’s a lot of paraphrasing, but you’ll get the drift.)
and of course, sebastian himself doesn’t exactly have a stellar record, but you know what? he learned and changed and he became someone i’ve admired a lot for some of the work he’s done that has focused and supported women. point is, even when they were confronted with all that, they weren’t shamed and called slurs, were they? and the partners of famous women aren’t either, they’re just envied? they’re not called golddiggers or sl*ts or... i struggle to think of male slurs, which is just so telling, but whatevs.
(and no, don’t @ me, i totally think that all these men deserve more chances, not only for this but for many, many mistakes and unwoke things they have done and are gonna do at some point, because we all do. we slip up and do things we later realise was wrong, and we reflect and we regret and we evolve and we become better.)
but, no. not if you’re the girlfriend of an admired man. nono, then gods above and below, save you if you’re caught out bc you’re the f*cking devil. then you’re a wh*re and a b*mbo and a pr*stitute and a b*tch, it’s such fun! and if you wore a kimono at a party, something that’s encouraged by ppl in japan btw, then you’re a r*cist version of all those things. and honestly? whatever has been found on her since, i don’t give a flying f*ck. bc that was more than enough for the vitriol that ensued earlier this summer. no matter who he’s with, there will always be something. the way women treat other women, the way we’re conditioned to do it from birth, it’s just insane. it’s disgusting and hurtful and dangerous, why do we do it? i’m just. sick of it.
again, sebastian’s behaviour is dumb. it’s gross and privileged and stupid. i defended him somewhat after ibiza bc spain was trying to get back on it’s feet, i didn’t even catch that he was in, was it bermuda?, but now it’s getting harder. yeah, the filming and pics are stalkerish af, and i don’t condone that, not even a little, but also i do think it’s wrong to do what he/they’re doing. it’s disrespectful to everyone who’s still locked down for their life, and it’s potentially downright dangerous, depending on what measures that are in place. hell, i took a domestic trip a month ago, before cases had started spiking here, and i still feel guilty bc i know so many other’s can’t. and it’s especially galling to other americans considering the insane situation there, and yeah, kinda rich coming from someone ranting abt irresponsible beach goers in may.
huh. apparently i wansn’t quite done after all. but then, when am i really ever.

Okay so Fire Emblem anon here!! Here's a Kinda Super Long Bc I Got Carried Away description of a few Fire Emblem games, plus some characters that seem like they hit tropes you like!
The good news is that there's not a super huge overarching timeline, there's several smaller timelines that are seperate from one another except for the crossover games. I'm gonna go with describing the newer ones that you're most likely to be able to get your hands on and play; a lot of people complain that they lean into some anime-tropey stuff and are too easy, but tbh, that's a perk just as often as it isn't. Basically, it's Game of Thrones, but rated T and with more cute girls and old men who are friendly instead of creepy.
Tbh, it's a turn-based strategy game with visual novel elements for characterization, if strategy games aren't your thing and you're just interested in the characters, watching the support conversations on Youtube might be more your thing. All the characterization, none of the resetting the same goshdang level thirty times. Anyways, description of the games in passing, including a brief description of the plot concept, pros and cons, trigger warnings, and some characters you might be interested in if you're just looking up characters.
*line break for legibility*
Awakening: for the 3DS. Follows Robin, an amnesiac mage, after they're found in a field by a band of knights called the Shepherds. Involves the undead, a twink in a mask, timey-wimey shenangians, and the usual cast of oddballs you'd expect from a Fire Emblem game.
Pros of Awakening: customizable player character, intro of Casual mode (turns off permadeath) and the Pair Up system, which lets you put characters together for shipping reasons strategy and stat boosts. Also doubles as a shipping simulator, since you can pair off characters and meet their later in the game due to said timey-wimey shenangians.
Cons of Awakening: there are some....very concerning combos of names/skin tones/plot relevance for certain characters, so go in with a warning about implicit racism. Also if you like strategy games, this game is relatively easy to break and make "too easy," but tbh that's what Lunatic Mode (the Ultra Unfair Hard Mode) is for.
Trigger warnings across the main plot: underhanded politics, attempted assassinations, martyrdom, an optional character is implied to stalk Robin but idk how to tag that, identity crises, conflicts within a family, character who isn't you looks like you, backstory child abuse, an optional character is a bad portrayal of DID if you squint?
*line break for legibility*
Fates: is actually a group name for two games set in the same universe, and a DLC bonus story: Birthright, Conquest, and Revelations. All for the 3DS. All three games star Corrin, a pacifist raised in seclusion in the kingdom of Nohr. Each game reflects a different path Corrin can take in navigating the war between the nations of Nohr and Hoshido: Birthright has them stand with Hoshido, Conquest with Nohr, and Revelations has them strike out (nearly) alone. Each path has a completely different storyline, cast of characters, and difficulty curve.
Pros of Fates: honestly, the characters here cater the most to the avid pro-shipper and multi-shipper. I just love this cast. Both Nohr and Hoshido have four members of the royal family you can play and get to know, each of those royal family members has two retainers who are various levels of dedicated and/or unhinged, and the cast just widens and widens. Also a character customization and shipping simulator point for the same reasons Awakening gets it. Also, canon fujoshi rights (there's a character with a skill called Daydream, which boosts her stats when two male characters are paired up near her. one of us, one of us). Also the first game with canon queer characters: both Rhajat and Niles are bi.
Cons of Fates: unfortunately, the writing is kinda rushed or badly translated in some places. Also *shakes IntSys* my lore! Give me more lore! Also, iirc, you could get both physical games in a bundle for a discount when they came out, but not anymore, so it's sorta like Pokemon with version exclusives. Which is less fun, since you can't directly trade characters. Also the fandom for this game is RIFE with discourse, which is kinda sad bc I just wanna talk my ships with ppl sjxhdjdn
Trigger warnings for Fates: child abuse might as well be Nohr's middle name, in-universe racism (since Hoshido is p obviously Japan-inspired, and a lot of Nohrians are rancid to Hoshidans), kidnapping, on-screen murder, lots of fighting your loved ones (on both main routes, you gotta fight the playable characters from the other side AAA), su-c-de, death of sibling(s) in certain routes, demonic-like possession, there's like six characters people can read as bad mental illness rep, Niles especially is discourse bait for being a kinky (yes that's canon) bi man of color but also he's awesome so die mad antis
*break for space*
Shadows of Valentia: for the 3DS. A remake of Gaiden, the second game in the series. Follows Alm, a farm boy from a small village in Zofia, and Celica, his childhood best friend. Zofia and the nation to its north, Rigel, are two nations ruled by the dragon gods Mila and Duma, respectively. Normally, they're in equilibrium, but Rigel is invading and Mila is missing, prompting Alm and Celica to independently investigate the problem.
Pros of SoV: the most like the old-school Fire Emblem games, but it also has the permadeath-off mode. also the first to be fully voice acted! The art style is gorgeous, and the plot was polished up from the old game--two characters names Berkut and Rinea were added, and they are PEAK OTP the diskhorse can die mad. Also the cast is pretty fun all around, from buddy squad and the older brother/dad figure they adopted along the way to "hello this is my gang of childhood friends, we're gonna kill a god" Also introduces Mila's Turnwheel, which lets you rewind your moves if you realize you goofed big time and screwed yourself over.
Cons of SoV: has the most references to other games, but you won't, like, be lost if you don't get them. You just might have a few interludes of "who tf is Camus/the White Wing Brigade/etc" but it's easy enough to look up on the wiki. Also tbh, the plot kinda drags in the middle, there's some filler battles to try and make it feel more realistic and it feels...weird. Also no custom character, you are Alm and Celica and you will Like It.
Trigger warnings for SoV: you know that thing where a girl character gets killed off for a guy character to angst over? the game starts with a fakeout version of that. also a character slowly goes mad over the course of the plot (but it's really well done imo?), there's some self-sacrifice stuff in there, classism is a major theme, possession/selling your soul™, there's a couple of levels where you're exploring tombs/prisons, I'm sure there's something else but I'm forgetting right now
*line break for legibility*
Three Houses: on the Switch. The newest game in the series, and the most polished imo? Stars Byleth, a wandering mercenary turned teacher at the Officer's Academy. The Academy, housed in Garreg Mach Monastery, teaches youths from across the land of Fodlan how to be warriors, commanders, and knights. Students are sorted into three houses based on their country of origin: the Black Eagles are from ghe Adrestian Empire, led by the heiress-apparent Edelgard; the Blue Lions are from the kingdom of Faerghus, led by prince Dimitri; and the Golden Deer are from the Leicester Alliance, led by Claude, grandson of the Duke. You choose one of these houses to lead, and then everything quickly goes sour.
Pros of Three Houses: It's such a rich experience! The music is incredible, there's so much lore, and you can wander around the Monastery and hang out with the students to your heart's content. Also, it's four storylines for the price of one, even if they're all relatively similar in the first half. It does a pretty solid job of weaving together its themes into a satisfying narrative that will make you consider everyone involved. Also we got our first bi main lord (Edelgard) and non-white main lord (Claude is mixed race) in one fell swoop! Also, given the setting, it's teacher/student ship heaven.
Cons of Three Houses: just gonna come right out and say it: one of the villainous factions in the game is pretty substantially tied up with some anti-semitic tropes. There's no way to ignore it, it's just bleh, and I'm not gonna send anyone in without that warning. Also, though there's some characters you can persuade to switch sides, or spare, there's no route where there's a happy ending for everyone. Also there are so many people who are fake deep about the themes of the game, so be ready for the worst takes imaginable about your faves. also super trigger heavy, see below.
Trigger warnings: MANY. Garreg Mach and the Church of Seiros are very reminiscent of catholic religious stuff, for anyone with religion triggers, blood in cutscenes, death of a parent, death of a sibling (different characters), major gaslighting vibes in some places, lots of people going unhinged, some white savior™ vibes in places, body horror, creepy ass weaponry, backstory genoc-de (mostly not related to the anti-semitism), blood magic (definitely related to the anti-semitism), in general it goes to a lot more effort than the other games to make you think about what's Actually going on, even if it doesn't always work.
*break for legibility*
As for characters you'd like, if you just want to look some characters up, my recommendations based on what I understand about you include:
Awakening: Libra fits 'gnc man of the cloth' so well it's actually a conversation in game: "so what's a woman of the cloth doing here?" "...man, sir, man of the cloth." And Then He Never Gets Misgendered Again. Also Nowi's supports sometimes feel like a jab at antis-- she's a manakete, a person who can transform into a dragon. Manaketes also grow really slowly, as in "middle aged looking manaketes are like 1000 years old," so she's got major baby face and copes with being mistaken for a teenager by making jokes. Also Gregor, who she first appears with, is pretty fun--older mercenary with a thick accent who is like 80% here for a good time. Also Walhart, who's a villain but got some content added as DLC.
Fates: any interactions between Corrin, Leo, and/or Camilla are probably right up your alley--Camilla is obsessively protective over her siblings in a way that's Very Definitely Platonic™, and Leo also canonically has a crush on her in something that was cut in the English release. Also Gunther--once upon a time he was your classic knight in shining armor, now he's semi-retired, Corrin's personal guard, and covered in scars (and his voice is gorgeous too)
Echoes: my biased answer is to listen to every single line Ian Sinclair read for Berkut because he absolutely did NOT have to go that hard. My actual answer is to point you in the direction of the pegasus sisters Catria, Palla and Est, or maybe the older gentleman who's the head of the Priory, I forgot his name oops abbdbd. Also Clive is a devoted husband to one Mathilda, who looks just like an older version of his sister Clair 🤔
Three Houses: knowing you, you'd adore Hanneman--an older professor who's extremely passionate about his work, to the point where he tends to forget personal space and such. Also Seteth, like I mentioned before (join me in simping for him and his gorgeous pecs) and like, honestly, I know ppl make jokes about Alois but he's rlly good. Soft, awkward but he doesn't care, dad jokes everywhere. And also Mercedes, both because she's the biggest sweetheart imaginable and everyone should love her, but also bc she is just walking potential for the kinds of stuff you post on this blog. On one hand, she's the oldest student at the Academy and attached at the hip to one of the youngest, Annette (tho people act like they have a way bigger age gap then they actually do) and on the other hand, she has a long-lost half brother she can encounter (who I will not name for HUGE HUGE spoilers reasons) who she spends the rest of her life with in one of her endings. Heck, he has three possible endings total! Total!
Basically I brought the games up bc I'm used to being on the side of the fandom where everyone shoos anything uncomfortable under the rug, but there's so much material here that's being wasted I SWEAR
If you have any other questions I can send another anon? Your call! Thanks for hearing me out I love ur blog :3
OKAY!!! sorry for answering so late, but this ask was pretty much a BOOK (not that I´m complaining though! thank you so much! ;;u;;)
and from what I read here, I THINK if I´m going off on my first fire emblem adventure, I´ll try and pick up three houses if I get the chance! I have read your trigger warnings (thank you so much! ;u;) and I think I can take it! >:3
again though, I am really, really not a fan of anime and the anime artstyle in general (blergh! XP) so I´m not sure how I´ll cope with that in particular, but then again, an artstyle does not make a game! u3u
AND HANNEMAN SOUNDS LIKE A WINNER TO ME!! I looked him up and OOOF!!! he may not have NEARLY as many wrinkles as I´d like him to have, but the facial hair is definitely a step in the right direction! ;3c
NOW YOU GOT ME INTERESTED!!
LETS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!! (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
