AITA for making my mom cry (in the hopes of continuing a years (?) long lie)
starting off: BIG SHINY ED TW
Context/Background:
• I’ve had an ED (OSFED) since I was 14
• I went to treatment (forced) as a teen. I hold zero anger over this by now and understand why my parents did it. I would have done the same.
• Both times I coasted until discharge, at which point I went back to ED behaviors, just more secretively.
• I’m now 22(F), living w my parents
The Lead Up to The Predicament:
• Relapsed age 21, and kept it secret
• My mother eventually noticed, and recommended treatment; I agreed, & got taken into IOP
• I’m still on my parents’ very good insurance, so treatment was covered pretty much entirely
• I did treatment with the same strategy I’ve used before: coasting until discharge, then keeping it secret. I have no intention of ever pursuing actual recovery, and do not believe it is possible. I don’t want to get rid of this problem, but I want it to be my problem only.
• Unfortunately, this means I essentially have to lie to everyone, because they won’t discharge you if you say “I’m doing this purely so I won’t run myself into the ground, and so my mom will leave me alone”. So I lied my ass off.
• I’m continuing to lie to my nutritionist, who recently approved me for “as-needed” appointments, and I kept putting off finding a therapist until my mom forgot and stopped asking about it, because I just don’t have the energy to continually lie to a therapist, and conversely, I don’t want to actually, honestly talk to a therapist.
The Predicament:
• Bill for $600 (part not covered by insurance) came from the treatment center
• Mom offered to pay it; I said no, I’ll pay for it
• Did this because I could not live with the guilt of my mom paying for treatment that she thinks actually put me on a path towards health, that I secretly used to lull her into a false sense of security
• She insists, and I insist back
• I pay it that night
• She finds out I paid it and breaks down crying because she thinks I did it because I assumed she couldn’t afford it and now she thinks she has failed me because I don’t think I can rely on my mother
• I try to explain that I’m an adult and it was my issue and my treatment and that I work full time and should be expected to pay my own medical copays
• This makes her feel worse and she expresses that my trying to pay my own way has been a pattern since I first got a job at 14, and that she should’ve asserted herself as a financial caregiver when she had the chance
• I freeze, because I don’t know how to explain what I really mean without admitting that I lied for months in an attempt to get people to stop worrying about an admittedly possibly-fatal illness
• I let her continue to cry
AITA FOR: Not explaining and just… letting her believe that?
What are these acronyms?

I really didn't like Zahra's reaction to Vex'ahlia's death and how she was presented in episode 4. It just seemed so cold to me, especially since Zahra took an active part in the resurrection ritual in the original stream and it felt so out of character in general.
The series had set them up as old acquaintances and Zahra was clearly angry about the twins' betrayal, but her dynamic with Vex was more of 'bitter ex who got their feelings hurt but there's still a spark there' than outright hatred. This was obviously different to Critical Role, but felt like a good move to make due to time constraints and a different way to approach Vex and Zahra's catty rivalry evolution to flirtatious affection. This felt reinforced by the pair actively protecting each other in episode 3. Yes, they were trading barbs and trying to one up each other, but if Zahra really felt nothing for Vex then she could have easily done nothing and would have had no blame thrown towards her.
Which is why I was shocked by Zahra's reaction to Vex's death was surprise and then.... Nothing. Just annoyance that Vox Machina got to the vestige first. Arguing that Vex was dead and that was it. What??? I expected her role to be reduced, but I still thought there would be some emotional response, some outcry for her fallen friend. Then Zahra doubles down after all that and sets a monster on them, acting more like a villain than an ally, which just gives massive whiplash at the end of the episode when she gives Vex the necklace because obviously this version of Zahra doesn't give a fuck about her.
Vex and Zahra's friendship was so important in the original show, their similar backgrounds made them really connect in a way that was different to Vex's other friendships, because they really saw themselves in each other. They're both survivors who were traumatised by their fathers, knowing that they have to take what they can get because nothing is ever just given to them, but they care deeply for others and are willing to put themselves at risk to protect anyone in danger.
We get no semblance of this in TLoVM and it's reasonable to not get that depth since they have way too much content as it is, but I still expect to see the same characters we all know and love. To make Zahra capable of such callousness while smoothing out Kash's character (who is supposed to be a cynical grumpy asshole) is just frustrating to watch and first time viewers would have no idea why these characters are so loved by the fandom. It really makes no sense to me why Mary or any of the others went in this direction.
Now, I'm not saying that Zahra and Kash's actions shouldn't have been antagonistic. Going after the vestige makes sense and I honestly loved it until episode 4. A better idea would have been to set up the monster fight as an ambush when Zahra and Kash first left the group with the intention to get the vestige from VM rather than try to find it themselves, return to find Vex dead and both try to help bring her back, then realise that the monster was a mistake when they went to leave in an "Ah, we fucked up" moment. This wouldn't have changed much in terms of the events, but it would have made so much more sense to the characters.
All of this is to say that I'm deeply disappointed in how Zahra's characterisation progressed, especially since I was so looking forward to seeing her in the show and before episode 4 I was so happy with what we had.

Zero-Day Kim & Chay Moodboards (creative process under read more)
The overall theme of the boards is that of Kim's investigation pinboard. In Zero-Day, Chay is investigating on his own where Porsche went, so I felt that this would be a great connection for the two characters in the mood boards
For Kim's board, I tried to be very clean-cut about everything with a dash of sophisticated Romantic energy. Every element is clear and organized. It's not too busy, but there's a level of precision that isn't there on Chay's. Kim has so many different faces and sides that everything has to be perfectly put together to keep it from all falling apart. The only skewed photo is the guitar because music is where Kim is the most truthful. You have the idol persona upfront taking center stage because that's the facade Kim wants to show the most. He hides as the ice-cold Enforcer for his family, but WiK is where Kim is happiest, not strictly happy but the closest to it he gets. Kim struggles with love and with violence so the two images show the duality of Kim. I chose the screencap of Kim at Yok's bar because to me that's Kim when he's at his most basic level. He's enraged but ready to protect and love Porchay, even if it's from a distance. The hands holding flowers show the beauty and love Kim is capable of if he allows it.
I honestly had so much fun with Porchay's board I'm not going to lie. I played around with the colors a lot because I wanted them to be complimentary to Kim's while still having their own unique aspect. I was heavily inspired by the vaporwave aesthetic with the brighter oranges and purple as well as the lopsided grid background (that took forever to put in the right place) which would fit into the hacker vibes he has in Zero-Day. Orange symbolizes warmth and creativity while purple symbolizes royalty, strength, and power.
Chay's board is completely disorganized because I was trying to invoke the investigation pinboard and the idol wall Chay had in his bedroom. The little graphics added to the pictures (which are more polaroid in shape compared to Kim's board) are similar to how idol fans can decorate their phone cases with photocards. In the photos I chose I tried to show that this is a Chay who even though he was excluded from the KinnPorsche narrative still had his own journey down into the underworld to join the mafia.
Finding Porsche is at the core of that journey (which is why the photo of the two of them features the world lose), but Chay eventually evolves past just being Porsche's little brother. He's blooming into something new beyond his brother's control. Also, the choice to have none of the photos of Chay face the viewer head-on was intentional. Chay is lost and can't see straight ahead because he's been led in so many different directions since Porsche left. Chay is all over the place in Zero-Day, and I tried to show that on his board.
I hope you enjoyed my rambles and go read my story! The next update should be up in a few days if not sooner!

Music of the Heart [J.YH] - seventeen | he’s got pipes
“Is it better to stack the unison octave here?” You asked.
“I can’t believe you really learned all those terms,” Hongjoong said. He didn’t look up from the keyboard which was odd since you’d seen him type without looking at it the whole time you’d been working together so far.
“You gave them to me to learn them, didn’t you?”
He finally turned to you. Your eyes met and you looked at each other for a moment. You weren’t sure if he wanted to say something or not, but considering that you had to finish the guide for this track before Jongho came into record, you didn’t really want to hear it.
You pointed at the track on the screen. “Unison octave?”
“Oh--” he looked back at the track and thought for a second. “I don’t know.” He clicked around for a second and played the track again.
It played for a second, both of you listening intently.
“...Wait, why did I add the harmony?”
“I think this section sounds better without it, honestly.”
Hongjoong thought for a moment as he listened. “Really?”
“Yeah. I think we should drop it at the end half of this chorus, and then bring it back even stronger for the last chorus.”
“Let’s make a mockup and see if we like it.”
Twenty minutes later, the both of you had noise-canceling headphones on, your eyes closed, and your heads on the desk as you listened to the song for the third or fourth time. When the track ended, you picked your heads up and took the headphones off at the same time.
“I think that’s a lot better than before,” Hongjoong said, “but it still feels like something’s missing--”
“Ahem.”
The two of you turned to see Maddox standing with the coffee order in his hands and Jongho and Yunho standing behind him. Maddox and Jongho looked like they were at least faking being annoyed at being made to wait, while Yunho looked only at you in amazement.
You ignored his expression and shifted your attention to Maddox.
“How long have you been there?” Hongjoong asked.
“Like five minutes.” Maddox answered.
“Oh! I’m sorry.” Hongjoong exclaimed and cleaned some of the things he had left on the desk as he was working.
He laughed and put his coffee down for him, then gave everyone else their coffee as well. You moved to a different seat so you weren’t in the way.
“Are you all warmed up, Jongho?” Hongjoong asked.
“Sure am. I went over the lyrics last night and I think I know what I want.”
Hongjoong nodded. “If you’re ready you can get into the booth. We can start on the first song.”
Jongho nodded and made his way over to the booth door. You stood and opened it for him so he could get in easier.
“Thank you.”
You smiled as he maneuvered past you with his crutches.
“Do you need help?”
He stood in front of the music stand. “Could you put these against the wall for me?”
You nodded and stood the crutches up in the corner so they wouldn’t fall, and then grabbed the stool by the wall and put it near him in case he wanted to sit at any point. “Do you need anything else?”
“No, I think I’m good. Also, I think my substitute manager should be the one helping me,” Jongho said loud enough for Yunho to hear.
Yunho, who was looking at the floor, lost in his thoughts, flinched and looked up. “O-oh, sorry.”
“Yun, what am I paying you for?” Jongho laughed as he picked up the headphones and went to put them on. “I’m all set, t/n, thanks.”
You nodded and walked back into the main room.
“Is June on vacation?” Maddox asked Yunho.
“She had a family emergency, so I’m just filling in for a bit until she gets back.”
“Ahh,” Maddox nodded. “You said you’re an actor, right? I didn’t know actors moonlighted as managers as well.”
“Well… some of us do if we don’t get enough work or are mostly cast as background roles. We still have to pay the bills somehow.”
Maddox nodded. “I’m surprised you wouldn't work at a cafe or something else instead.”
Yunho shrugged, spotted you coming back into the room, and looked down again.
Good. Stay that way.
“Ready when you are, Jongho. We’ll start with the run through.” Hongjoong said into the PA mic.
Jongho nodded, waiting for his cue in the music, and started singing.
You sat in your chair, a little bit away from the rest of the group, since you weren’t actively involved in the recording. You also couldn’t work on the transcription because you were technically busy since, again, as a group you were busy recording.
Yunho, to his credit, didn’t act the way he did the first day he was in the studio. Instead he watched Jongho as he recorded, perhaps looking for any moment where his friend might need something from him since he had just called him out; a moment for him to act like a manager.
Was your presence that much of a bother to him? If anything, you were the one who had the right to feel bothered. He was just… he was an idiot. But you weren’t going to let yourself be bothered. It wasn’t like you had somehow wandered onto a movie set that had him as the main lead, this was your job and he was on your territory.
Jongho hit several high notes in succession that made your attention jump over to him. You had heard him on his albums before but holy shit, seeing him sing like that in real life was wild. The way his voice soared higher and higher up the scale with what sounded like little effort while still keeping its power was amazing.
Jongho finished the run through and moved to leave the booth. You stood, your path cut off by Yunho.
“--Sorry.” He said quickly before beating you to the booth.
“What is up with you today, hyung?” Jongho laughed as Yunho quickly got him his crutches so he could exit the booth.
“Just being a good manager.”
Jongho shook his head and chuckled before joining the rest of you in the main room. Once he had gotten situated, Hongjoong played the track with Jongho’s voice instead of the guide track.
Jongho nodded through the whole thing, seemingly satisfied by his performance.
“I don’t think we need to change much,” Hongjoong admitted.
“The pleasure of working with veterans,” Maddox added and gave Jongho a knowing wink.
Jongho laughed softly.
“If I can fangirl for half a second,” you started, “it was really cool to see you hit all those high notes so effortlessly.”
Jongho smiled. “Thank you very much.”
“You should do the thing.” Maddox smiled.
Jongho turned to him. “The thing?”
“The thing! You know the thing.”
Jongho looked to you and back to Maddox.
You were confused.
Maddox implored him multiple times with his eyebrows.
“Ohh! The ‘thing’, hyung! You should have just said it.”
Maddox laughed. “I don’t want to spoil it.”
Hongjoong laughed, apparently having realized what it was. Yunho still looked confused.
“What’s ‘the thing’?” You asked.
Jongho chuckled. “I can do impressions. Would you like to see one?”
Knowing that this was going somewhere you smiled wryly. “Okay.”
“This is an orangutan singing opera.”
Jongho sung what was mostly the Night Queen’s Aria from the Magic Flute, barring the high notes he couldn’t quite hit. Maddox and Hongjoong doubled over into laughter, and Hongjoong collapsed off his chair and landed on the floor in a fit of giggles. You smiled, impressed by his skill and that he had honed it into something so silly.
As you smiled you noticed you had accidentally caught the eye of Yunho; he was smiling at you, the same smile you remembered from when you were kids. You looked away and suppressed your laughter.
Maddox helped Hongjoong off the floor and he wiped the tears from his eyes.
“I wish you had warned me before you did that.”
Jongho smiled. “And let you know it’s coming?” He shook his head before turning to you. “Don’t let Hongjoong hyung fool you into thinking he’s serious all the time, t/n.”
You chuckled and nodded. “I’ll make sure to remember.”
“Wait until you see him break apples while he sings,” Maddox said as he turned to you.
You raised an eyebrow and looked at Jongho. “What?”
Jongho laughed. “Before I debuted, I went viral from a video of me singing while breaking apples.”
“People used to call him ‘Fruit Ninja’,” Maddox nodded.
You laughed. “No way.”
Jongho nodded. “Mhm. I can still do it. I’ll bring in an apple next time we record. I might have to do a behind the scenes for my youtube channel, so I can break it then.”
“I’m excited to see.”
“The fans always lose it when you break apples,” Maddox laughed.
He nodded. “I actually had a few come to meet and greets and show me that they had learned.”
“Really?”
“The staff had to make a rule for them to stop, because it was making a mess.”
You and Maddox both laughed at the thought.
“Okay,” Hongjoong sat back in his chair, “Let’s get back to recording.”

Ashborn in ashes' dynamic to me gives off the vibes of a stray cat. Y'know, he just shows up around Antares whenever he feels like, being all "I'm in the mood for you to love me", letting Antares take care of him and "hissing" at everyone stepping too close in. He hangs out with him for awhile, only to dissappear just as suddenly and return a good time later. And the same goes on and on and on, and Antares... has nothing but to accept it all the way it's given
.its— he is the most cutest stray cat or so Antares thinks 🥺.
Incoming crazy rant below
But yeah he does give off that vibe of always trying to be alone and only showing up whenwver he feels like it, but I do pose it as a little more complex than that. Cuz when he was a ruler I do think he was often used to being so charismatic, beloved by everyone, he was the leader type, the ideal type for a warrior and a king, it's probably why never cared as much about AB's true intentions because to him AB had given him the best life (kinda like, why loose faith in your God when you already have the best and are the best?), and I mean he had to at least a little sociable if he had the strongest army out there (or was he just strong enough himself? Either way we do see even from bellion that he managed to gather himself a group of people who had at most some loyalty towards him).
But then AB dies, your family (?) Betrays and kills you, the only people you can rely are your worst enemies and even they come to betray you at some point. It's crazy, the only people you can trust are all shadows of their former selves that you decided to keep, like a corpse you can talk to but in the end it's not the real thing, and then the one person you love(going by the ashes shipping) could also try to betray you at any point if he wanted to so for Ashborn solitude really was the only thing he could ever have, what everyone backed him towards, from a high king to now someone that is seen as a prey in everyone's eyes.
With so much potential betrayal he would often try to keep his distance because it would keep hurting him in the end—in the LN we know he cares a lot about loyalty which is why even though he went against the architect to protect someone he cared about, he still felt ashamed about it. — so with Antares he would only try to be around him so as to make the others think he was still on the monarchs side, and the moment his emotions are to get the better of him he just flees, too afraid to think what could happen if he becomes loyal to a point of no return.
As for Antares, I think he does see that, and I have yet to grasp what a dragon like him would think. In canon he does only want destruction, as well as a mighty rival, and quite sadly Ashborn is a perfect fit for that. So even if he is still saddened by all the lonelyness he knows that it would be the best for them. And at the same time no matter whenever or not Ashborn is very affectionate with him or so little, he still ends up on the loosing side, either by having his wishing of destroying everything be fulfilled at the cost of his love or by having the love of his life with him forever at the cost of his own wishes to destroy everything..
(But damn, I would get it, he is just chaos incarnate and that's how AB constructed him yet we see he leads an army, he leads his own loyal people and the dragons, at least in slr, have their own culture, their own lives as well as the need to protect themselves and children. So even in both places it doesn't make sense why he wants to kill and destroy everything yet still let's the other monsters and even his own dragons live. Will he plan to kill them afterwards? And what will he gain? Yeah I know he is just pure evil and that jazz but I'm still curious about it, literally cuz the author did not care much about that villain background honestly. Still he is called a monarch instead of being a single entity of chaos, he's got something to lead right? So why does he do it? Just pure destruction again, kinda answering my own question here since it's as simple as that. God I love SLR again cuz at least we can get to learn more of him heck yeah. And if we go by that, (spoilers? Kinda? It's not much) them we do see he just wants to be strong, wants a strong rival and likely the only reason why he became a monarch was purely because he was always too greedy for power. Does it mean that his plan was or wasn't to become a king? Idk but he didn't care a single bit about it afterwards. Who or what became king and to him he didn't care even about his race at all or trying to keep the lineage alive, he is by far the most selfish one out there.
And that's cool fr cuz if putting the shipping lens in, it would mean that he would try so hard into getting all what he wants and yet no matter how hard he tries he has to loose something in the end.

in reference to your "if you like tom taylor's writing you're white" post, could you possibly elaborate? i don't want this to sound rude so i'm a little nervous about sending but!! i like his writing, i am also white, and i would like to know any issues in his writing that i can look out for so i can enjoy it critically. i realize i'm not entitled to an answer, but if you feel like it then i would appreciate it greatly!
Of course darling.
Now, I was just going to talk about some dumb plotlines if this ever came up (like the telenovela shit and the fact that he uses cameos from beloved stories to make up for the fact that very little of his plotlines are original) but I didn't expect such a genuine answer and I have some free time... so I guess I'm doing doing a breakdown of all of the bullshit in his writing.
For the record: I'm not going to speak on how he handles disabled people. It's neither on topic nor my place. Several people have done this well here, here, and here if this interests you.
There are two main reasons why (tw for a bunch of stuff, don't read if you're sensitive):
How he treats race
Tumblr media
I bring to the stand: "the romani smile incident".
Listen, I feel like this one was good-intentioned. Maybe. Probably. However, it's just so fucking weird from every angle I try and look at it from.
Telling someone they have a "(insert race here) smile" is already just... a very strange way to do representation. If you want to call back to/confirm his Romani heritage, which I would be all for, do it in a way that makes sense. Please. Literally anyone that thought about it for longer than half a second stopped and went "sorry, what the fuck".
I saw some people theorizing that he probably thought that, since there's such thing as a "white person smile", there had to be something like that for other races. And I hope that's the case.
It's funny... and also way better than the alternative.
Because there is a phrase like that for Romani people: "they had a (g-slur) smile". It generally means all of the things that are stereotyped about that culture. Mischievous, free-spirited, mysterious, etc. Changing it so the slur isn't used doesn't change the connotation and continues the perpetuation of stereotypes.
And then there's the entirety of this picture:
Tumblr media
I don't even know where to start with this one, honestly.
Damian has been whitewashed to hell and back.
Duke isn't even there. He is considered part of the core batfam nowadays, so it's very strange that he hasn't been included. Especially since he's the only black character. Tom defended himself by saying that Duke hasn't appeared in a Nightwing comic in quite some time, but he has control over who is in the comics. He is the writer. And, since Cass is in the background of one of the pictures, the whole "there wasn't enough room!" doesn't really work.
And, speaking of that, Cass is in the background? The people of color are just not winning today. She's even in the background of Steph's picture, which makes it worse. Steph isn't even a part of the batfam, she can't be for the sake of Timsteph fans, she's just a family friend. Why did the family friend get to be in the front of the frame? Why is Cass, an Asian woman, considered a literal background character?
... anyways.
Then there's the zionism
Tumblr media
This was 2013, so I genuinely would give the benefit of the doubt here... but Tom Taylor recently defended his past self by saying that "it's fiction, that doesn't mean I agree that he should have forced them to sign a peace treaty!", which means he still doesn't understand what is wrong with implying that the war in the middle east isn't a group of people trying to fight back against their oppressors.
2. Performative activism
The reason I have this second, despite feeling like it's the stronger argument, is because performative activism isn't strictly a White Person Thing... but, also, yes it is. So, let's get into his politics.
The treatment of homeless people: It's strange to see Dick Grayson suddenly "discover" homeless people in the most recent Nightwing comics, especially since he was homeless for a while in a previous run. I brushed past this, originally, though, because I figured he just wanted to address the recent talking point about how Bruce Wayne (and, by extension, his kids) should be using his money to help people in need rather than beat up the poor and I wanted to see what he did with it. I no longer let it go, because Tom Taylor has nothing to say. Homelessness bad. Yeah? You gonna address it at all, buddy? Some solutions? Some explanations for why homelessness exists? No? "Donate to the homeless" is all you're gonna say? Alright. Thank you for all your wisdom and new ideas, I guess.
The whole 'school gun violence' plotline with Jon was whack. It honestly deserves its own post, but I refuse to spend even more time thinking about it. Instead I'm just gonna sum up the villain's motivation and leave it there: the villain... wants school shootings to stop and therefore tries to draw attention to them... by shooting up a school.
Jon Kent... honestly, his whole thing at the moment is very white-savior-y, which is already annoying in itself, but that's not the real point here. His whole thing is saving the planet in the environmental sense, but Tom Taylor loves "good billionaires". He made Nightwing a billionaire. For some reason, I don't have much faith in his understanding of the global climate crisis.
Basically, if I see one more person call Tom Taylor a leftist I will scream. I am a leftist, he's an annoying liberal. We are not the same.
More seriously, the reason that I think performative activism is almost strictly White Person Thing, though, is because most people of color think more about what's going on and have more to say. Not because we want to know a lot about things like this, but because we have to. Systemic issues are our problems to deal with and white people's problem to sometimes talk about when they want some "good person points". And yet they never seem to do anything more than point at an issue and say it's an issue. It's a privileged position to be in.
And, we're done. If you want more information, try going through the 'anti tom taylor' tag. I'm lazy and don't have enough time to do any more before class. Byeeeee.

I think the reason why there's so many misconceptions of Tomura's character is because people refuse to consider AFO's role in his story outside of "he just picked him up and is slightly weird to him" Which stems from their dislike of AFO as many prefer if he just let Tomura have the reigns and retired in the background, they genuinely believed he was sincere when he said he wanted Tomura to take over his position as the symbol of evil.
They don't consider the grooming and just how much influence AFO has had over Tomura and how they take everything Tomura says at face value. I think a lot just underestimate AFOs role into shaping Tomura into who he is today, which is why we get all the "Tomura got cheated out of his rawness" or "he's an advocator for social justice!" takes.
I think if you refuse to consider AFO's role to the story and refuse to look at him beyond basic dislike of him then you're missing a huge chunk of the story and robbing yourself of an interesting character dynamic between AFO and Tomura. The body possession plotline doesn't come off as a surprise if you read more into AfO's character and Tomura's.
Yes I do think there was a wide-scale issue of people just...ignoring AFO.
He's one of those characters who was present throughout the entire story but in a way that he was haunting the narrative rather than directly participating in it.
The take you're talking about is one that I honestly don't bother debating with because anybody who thinks AFO is just some guy is...idk, not worth arguing with. But what puzzles me is the subset of raw Tomura stans who are fully aware of AFO's influence on him and yet still feel robbed by the body snatching plot...somehow.
Idk how you look at Tomura's development and be confused by the direction it went. AFO was never truly "gone" and if you look at MVA and look at the narration and the pictures separately it's almost like two entirely different stories are being told. You can EASILY see where the narration turns from a clear recollection of a memory to a distorted perspective that only JUST FORMED IN THAT MOMENT.
MVA for Tomura was the opposite of what so many people describe it as. It was not him stepping out of AFO's shadow. He literally stepped into the palms of AFO's hands and whether it was a take that formed because of weekly release of chapters at the time or not, we literally have almost all of the context surrounding MVA, so there's seriously no reason to continue thinking that MVA was a positive step forward for Tomura.
Everything that happened in MVA can easily be related to everything happening right now. Tomura broke out of AFO's possession (for now) but he didn't break out of AFO's narrative for him--that being that he's destruction incarnate with no other purpose for being alive. No, Tomura has not suddenly realized what he actually wants yet. That shit is still buried so deep, and his behavior right now rejecting the sheer concept of Izuku having any other intention besides forever opposing "his villain" shows that Tomura still views salvation as something so far beyond his reach, hence why he clings to the story AFO wrote for him because in that case, he knows the answer.
Openly crying out for help leaves room to be rejected and hurt again. Refusing to cry out for help and just forcing his counterpart to continue fighting him means he doesn't have to wonder what could be, he already knows the answer. That's why he's like this. It's because AFO convinced him that there is only one future for him, and it's a miserable one. The concept of possibly escaping it but being rejected that opportunity is too painful so Tomura clings to the story where he doesn't have to hold onto hope (even though he still is).

I was shopping for groceries today and I think they were having a 1D morning there. They played Harry “sign of the times”, then they played Zayn “drunk” followed by Niall Horan “slow hands”. They didn’t play any Louis while I was there. There is not much love for Louis here in Australia so I never expect to hear him out in public spaces anyway. Hearing them one after the other it was so clear how much effort was put behind Harry’s debut. The production was so lush, you could really hear it wasn’t a song crafted by a first time solo artist straight from his heart, everything was polished, there was nothing raw and real about it. The intent was launching someone to the grandest stage with the might of a full choir. Zayn’s drunk also had the same elements, a falsetto, melancholy but a little more mid tempo while still had him singing higher in the background. His vocals have a smoothness which Harry’s crafted notes can’t ever match, but the song itself seemed lazily put together. It didn’t have the might of songwriters behind it. Then Niall’s song, it went on and on. Why was it a hit? I guess I just don’t get his music. Maybe he is meant to be a true tiktok star because 20 seconds are more than enough for his songs anything more than that is excessive.
Hi!
Ugh I was at the dentist’s last week, and this was similar to the sequence they played— SOTT, then What Makes You Beautiful, then a Niall song (I honestly can’t remember the tune, and didn’t even know it was Niall until about halfway through), then a Zayn song, I think it was I Don’t Want To Live Forever. I live in the USA so of course there was no Louis song.
The thing is, it’s already not a pleasant experience to be at the dentist’s, but to have to hear a six-minute ballad about Harry Styles’ being chased by bullets is … excruciating. “The bullets. The bullets.” Honestly, the fucking privilege of that man.
In retrospect, Harry naming his first single after Prince and copying Prince’s album photo shoot for Fine Line, and wearing Jimmy Page’s dragon pants and having all those press releases at the time calling him Baby Jagger and his first concert with Stevie Nicks, and comparing HS1 to David Bowie’s Space Oddity and Freddie Mercury seems so funny now, with Watermelon Sugar and As It Was as his career highs and cocaine side boob choke her with a sea view as his signature lyric.
Harry’s vocals were fine enough for HS1, but he sings nothing like that now, and looks nothing like that, and as a wise man once said, “No matter how much you want it, some things change.”

KM Discord Server
As a POC (SE Asian) who was also dogpiled on a much a smaller scale in another discord server, and as one who'd witnessed in real time the events that unfolded in December 2023 in the KM discord server, I think the one thing that's been lost in all this chaos and drama is the human decency of giving people the benefit of the doubt.
Feel free to skip this section!
And for a little background, here's my experience: I reblogged a post on my blog and ranted about a few headcanons that I don't agree with in the tags. Some people read my tags, and concluded from that one post that I'm an outright ableist. Mind you, it was one day, and one post when I had absolutely no filter. Yet still, in which case, the conclusion drawn about me was fair, since in retrospect, I see where I went wrong. Again, I was frustrated for one day in that post and did not think of my tone whatsoever. I face the repercussions of that misjudgment today. For the record, just because I'm a POC, it doesn't mean that I'm immune to hurting other people, no matter the fact that that was never my intention. I did hurt certain individuals with that one damn post and the tags I wrote, and I'll be apologetic and remorseful about it for a long time. But having said that, I'd honestly expected certain people in this fandom to be mature enough to reach out in private first and ask for some clarifications, not to be immediately gossiped about in the discord server we were a part of. On top of that, besides that one incident, I hadn't even realized there was already growing resentment towards the metas I've written for KP/Kimchay, besides one of the few times I brought up personal frustrations I experienced as a POC. Lol
From what I've noticed with this incident in the KM server as well as the small discord server I was a part of, when POC share their own cultural context and understanding of something, not just the piece of media for which is the reason why we were all there in the first place, the knee-jerk reaction for most westerners are almost always to think of those things as "fandom policing."
In fact, in a separate conversation from my experience, one of them even said, "it's not so much about culture!" LOLOL To have that sentiment hurled towards me, while I was speaking of my frustrations of when culture erasure takes place in conversations of certain topics, while the conversation took place in a discord server meant to celebrate an Asian piece of queer media…was quite an experience. XD Goodness, I can only wonder what it's like to be able to have the privilege to say that so easily. That's all I'll say. Ha~
Yet still, from my own point of view, do I call the people who hurt me “individuals with a colonizer mindset” and that other word that’s hanging around right now and unsaid, just because of these few incidents? My knee-jerk reaction is to say yes, considering I wasn't even given a chance to explain myself, but I'll clamp that knee-jerk reaction down as much as I can, because despite everything, I still personally think the KM discord server and that other discord server still did more good than bad (not by much though), in the grand scheme of things. Those servers allowed for some instances of astounding cross-cultural communication (even if it also allowed rampant western ignorance to thrive), and for what it's worth, there are still good people in this community, despite everything.
And at the end of the day, who am I to hurl hurtful labels towards those who'd hurt me, when I hardly even knew them in the first place (two of them I never even talked to, LOL), and I know to myself that they meant no harm at the end of the day. Even if they certainly didn’t hesitate to throw the label “ableist” at me without a second thought.
It's a serious thing to throw a label like that at someone, even if my own experience as a POC who was dogpiled on by a number of westerners...hmm, let's stop that train of thought.
Getting back on track. Even still, these opinions I hold won't erase the experiences of other POC members in this fandom and in the KM discord server, the hurt they've experienced, nor can I speak for any one of them.
I think the bad habit of knee-jerk reactions—specifically the knee-jerk reaction of those wanting to protect the KM discord server in the way that's perceived to result in the least amount of drama, the gut instinct to not want to be caught in the crossfire, the conscious choice to tolerate such things, for the sake of preserving the safe space that one has left—is pretty much what's dominating the behaviors of people responsible right now.
The mods who run such servers like the KM server and others like it—they're not perfect, but I would have at least expected from them to be more open and proactive to the concerns of its POC members. Perhaps it's too much to expect that they would be equipped to handle very sensitive issues as the ones its POC members experienced, but damn...the bar is quite low, even just to meet the minimum.
And that's the most frustrating thing, to be honest. All this time, in all these various situations for those who’ve spoken out, it's the POC members of the community who are ALWAYS the ones who are pressured to having to give people the benefit of the doubt, to have to be careful of what they say, but NOWHERE in these situations is that sentiment even remotely returned to POC.
It was the POC members affected by the incident in December who had to remain patient with the mods, it was the POC members who had to face the backlash of negativity that happened, it’s the POC members of the community who’ve had to face the accusations of fandom policing, it’s the POC members of the community who have to face daily micro aggressions in this fandom, when all we’ve done is express opinions and our viewpoints.
At the end of the day, it’s POC members of the community who face the repercussions of having spoken out, yet the rest of the westerners in this community have the damn luxury to walk away, unscathed, to think to themselves that they did nothing wrong.
So I’ll be blunt this one time: yes, for the most part, there are good people in this fandom, there are. But even so, not a single one of us here is perfect, we’re all human.
And if I do say so myself, there is indeed quite a desperate need for fandom spaces, not just the KP fandom, to decolonize their ways of operating, starting with: giving POC the benefit of the doubt and actually trying to handle our concerns with some effort.

Welcome to the TUMBLR resurrection.
If anyone can revitalize this wonderful creative space it's the very real and very valid artists over at Web3. Why?
Well, simply because we are used to tackling social norms and working toward positive change in the greater creative community. What drives many of us is the idea of giving artists a real livable wage and taking out the middle men that take huge profits. Here in Web3 artists are able to be their full creative selves and create beautiful wholesome communities that are all working together to change the world and increasingly impact the world around them.
Some background of who I am:
I started as a traditional water color artist when I was a young child and as I grew attended very real, very in real life art shows and conventions. While these were fun, they were not sustainable for me as an individual with children who worked full time and was in college. I did not have the resources or means to pay an event over 200 USD just to make very little profit over the course of 3 days while ignoring my job and children. I actually switched my major in college under the assumption I would never be able to make money with my art because it felt as though it was not sustainable. I went as far as to get a Masters in Mental Health in order to survive.
Fast forward to 2021. My friend called me up and told me about this silly concept called "NFTs". I honestly laughed at first. It sounded silly and ridiculous. He had no intention of actually selling anything. However, I began to deep dive and as I learned about the activism involved and the underground movement toward artistic independence I began getting exciting. I have always believed in art as a tool for healing and wanted to help artists thrive.
I do not expect all artists or art collectors to understand our space we are building here in Web3 but it won't stop, the technology exists and it is part of the growing future as more artists are onboarded every day.
What is next? We need to work on growing Web3 communities and branching out by onboarding artists from more traditional backgrounds as well, this has already been happening and will continue but it brings into question more topics such as sustainability and longevity. We want Web3 to be a safe and comfortable place for artists to hang out and engage with others. This is key for survival in any business. You want to surround yourself with other like-minded change leaders and work toward positive change in a way that benefits everyone.
To those reading this outside of web3. Here are some things I want everyone to know:
Environmental issues:
1. Recently, the ETH merge has further improved any concerns surrounding environmental factors so artists need not worry any longer. However, I am aware the media has not shown nor specified this fact. Also, for artists still concerned there is tezos as an option as well which is an even more affordable option when it comes to blockchain art, and it has little to no impact environmentally. Also, Keep in mind any VISA transactions you make also uses electricity to process the payment. It is wonderful being mindful and changes are being made everyday to make crypto more and more environmentally friendly.
Scammers:
2. While there are scammers all over online (check your email) we should not allow scammers to set a narrative for artists and art communities. They are not a part of what we do or what we are building. Scammers will come where there is money. However, we need to focus on the underground art movement and scammers will disappear as web3 advances and securities are increased.
Diversity
3. Most of Web3 consistant of people from all backgrounds, areas of the world and various social demographics. I have spoken with people in India, UK, Australia, Canada, USA, Mexico and many other places. There are even initiatives to help those in rural and developing nations sell their work as they are in dire need. There have been sales and movements for the folks in Ukrane and those right now in Iran. Many of us have donated money to causes and worked hard to make the world a better place.
Web3 is a great place to be once you find your community. It consists of leaders from all over the world working hard everyday to make art more accessible to those from different areas, backgrounds, abilities and even to those struggling with disabilities who are unable to attend art shows. If you are a fellow creative its worth finding your passion and heading into Web3. We will welcome you with open arms.

15 Questions, 15 (or whatever) Tags
I was tagged by @kikiroo - thank you!!  *heart hug!*
1. Were you named after anybody?
Nope.
2. When was the last time you cried?
Um, I cannot stress enough that I cry at the drop of a hat in fictional situations (pretty much never in real life) so it was either Ted Lasso or reading The Celebrants by Steven Rowley, or it could’ve been The Emperor’s Bone Palace by Hailey Turner - I just finished that.  I can’t remember if I did or not, but I was so stressed out, I probably did, things went poorly for a bit there and I was a wreck.
3. Do you have kids?
I do not and have no plans to.  I’ve never wavered on that, I’ve always been very ‘who knows, could change,’ about it but so far: nah.  And I feel like if I had ever wavered, my sister having two pandemic babies and me being her entire village (I am the only relative who lives in the same state.  And the people who are best at babies do not live in the same country.) has nudged me more firmly towards: that’s really not for you, broh.  I love them to death but I am so glad I get breaks where I just get to be a selfish monster for seventy-two hours straight.
4. Do you use sarcasm a lot?
Neever.
5. What sports do you play/have you played?
I played soccer for maybe a few weeks in middle school and then I was like: this is just running, and running is so much worse than sitting, was everyone aware of that?  I’ll be on the bench if you need me. *throws up a peace sign*  Though I did just tell my sister that I would absolutely fucking kill at basketball against K-1st graders and I stand by that.
6. What’s the first thing you notice about someone?
Sense of humor.  Honestly, I don’t know if it’s an ace thing or not, but I can’t even describe people beyond: heightish and hairish until you interest me as a person, which is usually because you make me laugh.  It’s kind of embarrassing sometimes because I really do not notice, and sometimes I’ll be asked to describe someone I’ve been in the vicinity of for, like, two months and I’m like: I genuinely cannot tell you a single thing about this person, I’m so sorry.  I just don’t track details.  That’s why I try really hard with names.  I can’t tell you what they look like in any detail (do they wear glasses? Have freckles? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ), but I can tell you their name.  And sometimes that can feel like a superpower tbqh, because you know who people come to find out the new person’s name: moi.
7. Eye color?
Blue.
8. Scary movies or happy endings?
Oh scary movies, hands down.  They’re my favoritest things.  I regularly have them on as background noise.
9. Any special talents?
If I do have them, they’re a secret even to me.  I like to have that Kathleen Madigan mindset about it: “What if we’re all prodigies, but it’s just at something we’ve never tried yet? ... What if I sat down at a pottery wheel and made a cup and people were like: Holy Christ, lady, that is the most phenomenal cup ever made.”  It could happen!
10. Where were you born?
St. Pete, Florida.
11. What are your hobbies?
Writing, reading, tending to an imaginary beluga whale that lives in my nephew’s bathtub, creating to do lists over and over again that I have no intention of ever completing, and playing Pokemon Go.  There’s a girl at my work and we were the two nerds who were really into it, we would get together, do the fests and the raids and community days and such.  We have now converted half our workplace into either reactivating their accounts or creating them and there are now at least two more people who are just as - if not more - into it than we are.  (Like, they had to make a Pokemon Go policy because of us spreading it like a virus, lololol.)
12. Do you have any pets?
I have a doggo that I accidentally made obsessed with me and super introverted.  You know how they say owners start to resemble their dogs?  Nope.  I broke her and now we like to stay in, are wary of strangers, and essentially try to occupy the same space at all times - I blame COVID, honestly, we were both way more normal before that.  Or she was, anyway.  The good news is I can let her off leash ‘cause she’s going precisely zero places without me.
13. How tall are you?
5’
14. Favorite subject in school?
English in high school, Evolutionary Psychology in college.
15. Dream job?
I hate to say it but: I do not dream of labor.  Anything I’m passionate about doing, I would immediately tarnish by needing it to now be the source of my livelihood.  It would lose all its joy because I would put immense pressure on it.
Though if I could somehow make bank through sleeping? Yeah, that.
I don’t know who to tag because I feel like I’ve seen everyone do this on my dash so: um, whoever hasn’t done it yet and wants to - consider this me tagging you!

HEY. your essay on alien shapeshifters is FANTASTIC and reminded me of a question i've had for a bit. it's about human shapeshifters who aren't Black most of the time, but do shapeshift into being Black. or really any shapeshifter who shapeshifts into a minority that they weren't born as. a lot of debates about "transracial" people like oli london are founded on the belief that race is innate, or at least that the current concept of race is unchanging. i'm white and jewish and i really don't know enough about the structure of race to know how being a shapeshifter would change being "transracial", but it's a question i would be delighted if you could explore, or at least narrow down for me so i could find sources that aren't you.
Hi! Thanks for reading my essay!
My mind definitely went to the concept of 'transracial' when I was writing; while it's predominantly used nowadays to describe people like Rachel Dolezal and Oli London, it's also been used previously to describe adoptees who are raised by people of different racial and ethnic backgrounds than themselves. As what I linked says, how the term is used nowadays has been pretty controversial among this community. In connection to comics though, there are an oddly high number of transracial adoptees who are also aliens. The Clark and Lex graphic novel coming out in early July casts the Kents as a Black couple raising a white child, Naomi McDuffie's adopted parents are white (one being also an alien), and even Augustus Freeman in the absolute loosest sense of the word could be read as a character loosely based on this phenomenon.
But back to the question at hand, which is more focused on human shapeshifters. Honestly, part of why I focused so heavily on alien shapeshifters is because the nature of a human shapeshifter and how that relates to race is a hard thing to tackle. I'm not particularly sure if I could even find the amount of panels I did for Icon and Martian Manhunter if I went looking for 'DC or Marvel human shapeshifter who changes race regularly'. And I think that's because, in today's day and age, we'd conceptualize a white shapeshifter changing to look Black for extended periods of time more as Blackface (or equivalent terms) than the sort of identification I described in what I wrote.
This article about race not being genetic is long, but I think it helps to answer the primary concern that we see race as this constant, permanent thing. It absolutely isn't. But how we define it in specific cultures at certain points in time offers more concrete snapshots while also illuminating fringe cases, such as the one linked in the essay of Ernest Cole and Trevor Noah, who details how he was classified as Coloured despite it being illegal for him to have a white father during apartheid in his autobiography Born a Crime. I haven't read the full thing, full disclaimer, just parts assigned for a college class I was in last month, but his discussion of identity on paper versus identity in the mind stood out a lot to me.
And I suppose that's where I'm at? There are papers out there defending 'transracialism' (not sure if that caught on as a term) and drawing parallels between it and being transgender, and I've never quite enjoyed acting like they're one and the same as a Black trans person, but people wanting to present themselves as other races and genuinely identifying with these racial or ethnic categories isn't exactly new. So that's identity in the mind. But I don't know, it's not like some of the examples I'm giving are utilizing this identity in benign ways. Dolezal's pretty famous for leading a branch of the NAACP, claiming people fraudulently as family members to verify her identity, falsely filing hate crime reports, and also positioning herself as a Black professor of Africana studies, which is pretty unethical to say the least. Like, I can't really control how people identify or present themselves, but I can still be critical of their intentions and if they're actively harming the communities they want to be a part of. In a fictional sense, I would also be examining it that way.
But either way, I don't think there's a big list of writers who I think could handle the idea of a human shapeshifter changing their body to match an incongruent mental racial identity with effective nuance. Hell, I don't think I'd be able to write it too well either, mainly because of my own discomfort (that I happily admit to). I think probably the best example might be Kamala Khan's early comics having her shift to look like Carol Danvers, and how that reflected the sort of insecurity and internalized self-loathing a lot of Black and brown people feel about themselves. But it wouldn't be read the same if a white Inhuman shapeshifter decided to take on Kamala's visage permanently bc they felt Pakistani.
I don't know if any of this is helpful, but I hope the sources give a good jumping off point for discussions surrounding this, and again, thanks for taking the time to read everything!

It’s been a bit of a rough year for you (and us), but throughout that, you’ve managed to build many OCs and outlines. What’s your thought process while you make character profiles and backgrounds? Where do you start and how much of it is intentional/planned?
Tumblr media
(my reaction the second i finished reading the question)
While we definitely be hanging onto our lifespans, I indeed have somehow managed to create a grand total of 10 OCs (yes, I just checked the number and my eyes just went 👀).
Special spoilers for ye faithful and ever-loving readers of mine — the OCs belong from a range of fandoms, which are Marvel, Fantastic Beasts, the Hunger Games, Star Wars, X-Men, and Kingsman 😏
(coming back to the main point)
Why OCs?
I got frustrated and cringed out by the use of Y/N — and still do. Honestly, there are so many stories I've read that have impeccable structure and flow... until I have to read things like 'why-en' and 'why-slash-e-slash-see' (y/e/c) and it just distrupts the overall imagery you're building up in your head as a reader/writer and just sounds extremely stilted when it's overused.
This is THE main reason why I'm also going to be re-writing two fics of mine, replacing 'Y/N' with proper OCs, because I'm just too tired and embarassed of employing the usage of the term.
What’s your thought process while you make character profiles and backgrounds? Where do you start?
Suppose I'm writing a fic oriented around Obi-Wan Kenobi and a female OC during the Clone Wars time period. Here's how my thought process goes.
[Note that all of these points have to executed TOGETHER in order to create a satisfactory OC.]
Make your OC subtly unique. Whenever people tend to write OC fics, they always make the OC stand out to the reader, characters and the fic universe, which isn't supposed to happen. Part of creating an OC is to make them unique to the characters at the beginning of the story. That's it. A common example is that a majority of the OCs always end up having a double-bladed lightsaber with an uncommon colour. While that may look aesthetic, that just makes them stand out from a physical perspective. That's not the point - make them stand out from an internal perspective, i.e., by their thoughts and their problems. After all, your characters drive your story ahead - like when Anakin chose to kneel before Sidious, and when Luke chose to throw away his weapon because he wanted to be a Jedi just like his father before him.
Establish your OC's future relationships. They do say the company you keep ends up defining you and your choices. If I'm making my Star Wars OC a Sith, the logical thing for the OC would be in association with Sidious, Maul, Dooku, or the Separatists. If the OC is a Jedi, than a logical association would be to be childhood friends with Obi-Wan if you're going for friends to lovers, or a (former) padawan under Mace Windu and indulge in a rivals to lovers dynamic - or if you love the age-gap thang, you could have a master-padawan dynamic with the OC being a sister/friend to Anakin and Ahsoka.
Assign a set of characteristics to your OC — even the physical look. Why I'm saying this because while you're creating an OC, racial dynamics always matter. You can't run away from them, because they are a reflection of problems in reality - which are what all stories are in some manner or the other. How you create the look is a method unique to you.
Coin a name for an OC that tunes in with the vibe of your fic's universe and your character's personality. When you say 'Oh-bee-wan-key-no-bee', it's like a rhyme - there's a sense of synchronicity felt in the name when you say it. You can feel the same when you say Ahsoka Tano, and (-going off-universe-) Steve Rogers, Raven Darkhölme, Cersei Lannister, Darth Vader, Haymitch Abernathy, Natasha Romanoff, Theseus Scamander, etc. You could add middle names [Lucy Gray Baird], use alliterative names [Peter Parker] or use nicknames [Eggsy Unwin]. Names with meaning are also appreciated, but as long as they smoothly roll-off the tongue [Perseus 'Percy' Jackson] - even a ridiculous one, like Lester Papadopoulos, gets pulled off if it rolls off well.
Flesh out your OC. Strengths, weakness, potential reactions to seeing characters and being put in risky situations, everything. The more you get to know your character - and the in-universe lore - the more you can write them well.
Make it make sense - if your OC's as committed as a Jedi than Obi-Wan, maybe even more, why? What's their reason? What drives their spirit? If your OC's destined to be the most powerful Sith in existence and be a threat to Sidious' potential, how and why? What were the circumstances? The backstory? Don't go ahead and make your OC a messiah out of nowhere with no logical explanation. It's not just the backstory, but also the character's internal drive of morals, limitations and decision-making that make up the character's strengths and flaws.
P.S. Plotting is 10000% recommended, but as I said, the method/process is always unique to you.
'How you create the look is a method unique to you' - what methods do you use?
There are certain actresses/actors that always end up coming in my mind when I'm in the middle of creating an OC. Thing is, I'm comfortable with using present actresses/actors because I know the boundary between the character and the actor. I only use them for the look and the action scenes, nothing more. I also use ChatGPT (input a prompt and adjust it to my needs) to seek suggestions since I'm picturing real-life people as the physical manifestation of my OC.
If you're not comfortable with my methods, that's okay! You can use any illustrations or random face-claims you find, it's YOUR character and YOUR story 💖🎀
And finally...
...how much of it is intentional/planned?
It always begins as planned, but then I plot the story and eventually it becomes 50% planned and 50% intentional/instinctual.
Thank you for your ask <33 Have a lovely day/night ahead!

What plot points would change due to the inclusion of your character in canon?
What role would your character play in the story? Are they a major player, or a one scene wonder?
Besides your face/voiceclaim, who do you think would be cast as your character?
If your character had a breakout show/film/comic, what would the plot be? Who would be in their supporting cast?
What headcanons/theories do you believe fandom would invent about your character?
What controversies/drama would your character incite in fandom?
What fan-material would exist for your character in fandom?
Is your character the subject of ‘imagines’ or ‘x reader’ style blogs?
Are there any tropes fandom would put upon your character, for better or for worse?
What would be the ‘incorrect but wildly popular’ interpretation of your character in fandom?
How does fandom characterize/mischaracterize your characters ship in fanworks?
Be honest. What song is playing over an AMV/tiktok of scenes between your character and their love interest?
What is the wildest crackship you can imagine for your character, whether in-universe or in crossover?
((feel free to ignore some of these if you want!! I just love a lot of those questions and I am Curious sdgjhsdf))
if your oc was canon…
What plot points would change due to the inclusion of your character in canon? There would be a few shifts to accomodate the fact that she would be around during AOU and Endgame, and very briefly in AOS, but other than that her story doesn't really have too much of an impact on changing the events of the m.cu as a whole. Which was intentional! Her story is very self-contained.
What role would your character play in the story? Are they a major player, or a one scene wonder? I think in terms of the overall Marv/el franchise, she would definitely be a more minor character. A recurring one maybe, but not a main character by any means. Maybe she'd get her own spinoff.
Besides your face/voiceclaim, who do you think would be cast as your character? If they went for an actress who speaks German, I think maybe Dominique Devenport or Lisa Vicari! If they went for an English-speaker who does an accent/some German lines, my first thought is Sofia Black-D'Eila, and maaaybe Daisy Edgar-Jones? I'm not entirely sure though!
If your character had a breakout show/film/comic, what would the plot be? Who would be in their supporting cast? answered here!
What headcanons/theories do you believe fandom would invent about your character? Hmmm... considering Katrina is a very private person, up until the point that she really got her own plotline I think there could be a lot of headcanons about her background and relationships with people like Julien that people could come up with!
What controversies/drama would your character incite in fandom? Well, most women with powers get accused of being a "mary-sue" or "forced diversity" at some point, so I would fully expect that. Honestly, I think the other controversies would mainly be around the fact that her background very much showcases the fact that she had very negative experiences with religion and cons.ervatism as a child, which I know a certain type of person would Not appreciate in the slightest. I once read a fan letter in the write-in section of a comic centered around mutant characters where someone couldn't figure out why conse.rvatives are always the villains in these stories imagine how whiny they would get if it was even more explicit of a plot point
What fan-material would exist for your character in fandom? I could see people doing art and maybe some speculative fics on scenes from her past that wouldn't be shown! And as someone who cannot do video editing, I hope so bad that there would be video edits of her I have imagined them in my mind and I wish they were real
Is your character the subject of ‘imagines’ or ‘x reader’ style blogs? Maybe??? I think some people would find her hot but I don't know if it would be enough people to warrant imagines or x reader blogs
Are there any tropes fandom would put upon your character, for better or for worse? OH BOY. Sexy femme fatale would definitely be one. One-dimensional snarky action girl. Emotionless spy. I feel like a lot of it would just be ignoring the nuances of her character, how her trauma impacts her, and how the too-cool facade she puts up is just that - a facade.
What would be the ‘incorrect but wildly popular’ interpretation of your character in fandom? See above answer lol
How does fandom characterize/mischaracterize your characters ship in fanworks? Katrina can be a difficult character to ship with because it is so fucking hard to break down her walls. I feel like a lot of people would try to push aside how guarded she is for the sake of a cute ship, and while I 10000% feel that it's just. Not who she is. She has to get to know and trust the person before she lets herself be any sort of vulnerable with them. Katrina is guarded and mistrusting to a fault. (And I feel like this would be ESPECIALLY prevalent in any sort of explicit material involving her; she has a complex relationship with both emotional and physical intimacy that I think a lot of people just wouldn't want to write all the nuances of.)
Be honest. What song is playing over an AMV/tiktok of scenes between your character and their love interest? Oooh I could see a few ones for this depending on the love interest... but just in general, I could see House On Fire by Rise Against, Nervous by K. Flay, Trouble by Cage the Elephant, Yoko Ono by Mob Rich, R U Mine by the Arctic Monkeys (a classic), or What If It Doesn't End Well by chloe moriondo.
What is the wildest crackship you can imagine for your character, whether in-universe or in crossover? Uhhhh.... I am blanking and the only thing coming to my mind is the fact that every marv.el character eventually gets shipped with Darcy, but other than that I'm not sure! What do you guys think

idk why but i needed to discuss and send this to you.
i also don't think this is something new to say but following your previous reblog (that tik tok) makes me think of the shit halsey does sometimes and how the majority of their fan base immediately goes 'yikes' and i think it's also how certain artists have portrayed themselves and how certain artists have created their personas/stage character. i'm taking halsey as an example cause they're the other artist i know very well but like, ever since the beginning ashley showed themselves as this open minded and very very opinionated person who has always used their persona (halsey) as an excuse to be even more vocal about things that mattered to them (i'm exclusively talking about this character that's created bc halsey's background is light years away from being the same as taylor's) and on the contrary taylor has (insert every reason here i know why she did but i also don't care) created this america's sweetheart image, the perfect white girl, the girl who does no harm and even if she fucks up "her intentions were good!!" (giving no space to actually question that aka the entire lover era with the yntc mv and the me! comment in miss americana?) and that's why people cannot even think about calling taylor out (i think this matty case is the exception since a LOT of fans did) and it's just like... taylor you're one smart motherfucker bro, it's genius but also quite fucked up but so genius. bc even tho she tried to miley cyrus her way out of the "naive/nice girl" thing she will always be that. anyway, i hope i don't get cancelled and maybe i'm wrong? but i needed to talk about this with someone, bye ily <3
Nins one of my favorite things about you is your willingness to just say shit how it is <3
100% agreed with everything you said. I know the biggest backlash Halsey got (in my memory) was when she used to go around kissing fans (I'm sure you remember, lol.) I remember Tumblr especially went after them hard because one of the fans they kissed was a minor at the time - which was deserved! (There were Halsey fans making excuses for her, but I recall them being in the minority.) But like, once Halsey started gaining more fame and realizing the connection she had with her fans and her power in that connection, she stopped doing things like that. She apologized, said she didn't know the fan was a minor, and hasn't kissed any fans since. The other kinds of backlash Halsey gets aren't really the same, but when she does something wrong, she tends to own up to it. And it's always Halsey, not Halsey's team.
Whereas with Taylor... anytime there's even the smallest bit of backlash against her, her team (be it online Swifties or her actual PR team) rush to defend her, talk about her intentions, and really make it seem like she's perfect and innocent and incapable of making mistakes. I'll honestly never get over how many Swifties were foaming at the mouth trying to defend her when the Private Jet Usage thing was going around. The backlash from that died down pretty quickly and most Swifties I saw weren't willing to even say that she was doing something wrong.
She's really done something smart - horrifying, but smart - in terms of walking this line of America's Sweetheart Girl-Next-Door and Very Savvy Rich White Woman. I do think we might finally be hitting a point where people won't be able to forgive her, though.
Matty Healy is not interested in cultivating a positive public image of himself. He frankly seems to thrive off and enjoy controversy. It's a lot harder for people to maintain that Perfect Image of Taylor when she's so intimately associating with someone who handles his own fame and image the opposite way.
Maybe she truly believes she's untouchable at this point and just doesn't care. Maybe she thinks the power of her own image will be enough to override his. Maybe she doesn't think any backlash against her is ever deserved, after all the (undeserved) hate she got pre-Reputation, so she's ignoring this and writing it off as just more mindless hating. I have no idea where her head is at, and I don't think anyone else really does, either.
If nothing else, it'll be interesting moving forward, seeing where this goes. I don't think I've ever seen a celebrity match with such opposite perspectives and methods of maintaining their public images. I'm curious to see if (1) they even stay together that long (this kind of reeks of a rebound to me) and (2) if the disgust/outrage will persist if they do stay together.
I really feel for the BIPOC fans who have been hurt by all of this, though. One thing Megha (hi @tolerateit <3) mentioned a day or two ago really hit me - for so many Swifties, it's not even really just about Taylor, but about the community they've built and the friends they've made by being fans of hers. Knowing Taylor is dating someone like Matty is bad enough - seeing white Swifties make excuses for her and ostracize BIPOC fans for speaking up is a level of gross and sad that I don't really have words for. That's the part of this that really sucks the most.
