had a really good night. feeling a little bit sick to my stomach but what can you do
#met seth from poolboy again today!! twice if you count each occurrence how i did the first time#so i’ve seen poolboy twice and theoretically met seth five times. i mean that’s how many conversations i had so. pretty fucking awesome#however i feel a little bit ill. cause of listening to my recording and hearing how awfully annoying i am#the keyboardists fiancé was actually standing right in front of us and so after the show he talked to us#cause me and my two friends who were there we were singing along to all the songs and poolboy is not a very famous band#so after the set was done the guy was like asking us questions and then he’s like yeah i’m actually engaged to jp from poolboy#and anyway that was really really cool in the moment. i just feel a little bit ill hearing myself talk to him?#like ‘poolboy is my fAvorite band .. ‘ ‘..my favorite song of theirs tOtal is corrections’#i dont know. i think i’m just dysphoric and autistic so i have to feel bad about conversations when i have them recorded#but. um. i met jp dreblow’s fiancé that’s Pretty Cool. and i talked to seth and he gave me a free CD!!!!#cause i only had a $20 or a $5 and it was $10 and they didn’t have change and so he said it’s fine just take it for free!!!!#this was after i told him that they’re my favorite band and the absolute coolest and that we had seen them before back in january#and all of that. and i did meet him three times that day (shdhdf it’s a silly way to count it) but also got his autograph so. i’m really#lucking out with these interactions. secret to a dream life: have the most random guys who live in your state be your favorite band#it can’t go wrong. these guys are absolutely incredible and i have had so many random opportunities to say hi and be really excited#anyways i have a year of the weasel vinyl from the january show (with autograph) and a good orchard CD from today (free and with lyrics)#and i got a photo with seth today. i’m pretty sure what i said was ‘could i get a photo with you if that’s normal?’ and he said yeah sure#i feel like my relationship with poolboy is like. the opposite of a parasocial relationship. or like the most amplified version of that#cause i think of them as super cool unattainable celebrities but it’s like. some guy with a masters in library science who i’m probably the#first person to have asked for an autograph or a photo or anything like that. but see there’s the funny thing is that it’s both kinds of it#on the one hand i think of them as fancy fancy when they’re just some guys. but i also think of myself as The Only Poolboy Superfan which is#not necessarily true. who knows really. but they’re sure pretty freaking awesome and i sure got to see them today!!!!#anyway i’m real tired but i was really happy to see poolboy today. even though i feel a little bit sick about how i speak and sound#cause that’s not going to change. and it’s not like anyone said anything about it so i can assume they didn’t notice#i just have this creeping feeling at all times that everyone i meet is just treating me nice cause i’m too obviously autistic#like they hear what i say and they hate me and they judge me but they say well clearly something’s wrong with this kid so i’ll let it slide#but hey. some people love me. so hopefully your average stranger doesn’t hate me as much as i’m scared they might. i sure hope they don’t#anyway i had a good night it was really good i’m just being me a little bit. i hope everyone is well i’m about to go to sleep#friends only#i’ll be around in the morning this is my last tag i love you all very much and see you tomorrow goodnight

I just had the very clear thought "Oh shit, my happy polka music", and then immediately ran into the edge of my bed after getting up to restart said polka music.

So I know celebrity rockstar Eddie with Just-Some-Guy Steve is popular, but what about the opposite?
Steve, who is a professional Basketball player, got scouted from where he played for his college team. The fan fave, the darling of the locals, and one of the best players on the team. Models for sportswear brands, has had interviews and talks at schools and the media loves him. He's handsome, and nice, and has publicly come out.
And then there's Eddie. His boyfriend since college. Just some guy who runs a music store. Started just as a minimum wage worker and then slowly worked his way up to running a small business himself. Sells guitars and drums and other instruments. Vinyl and cds and music merch. Hosts guitar lessons. Is happy playing music because he loves it, not for the fame and money.
Eddie goes to all his games (or as many as he can) and while he's not a sports guy and never will be he loves watching Steve play. Is only about 80% sure of the rules at best and that's good enough for Steve. And Steve who's not a metal fan, and will never be into DnD but will spend his free evenings helping Eddie plan a campaign or listening to this song Eddie's been trying to learn on the guitar.
Idk I just think it's fun to explore the opposite! Eddie getting excited any time he sees people wearing Steve's merch in public and people keep mistaking him for a hardcore fan because no one knows who he is and honestly he's fine with that. He is a big fan of Steve
he's a big fan of steve' MOMO THAT LAST LINE TOOK ME OUT!!!! OHH!!!!
Okay so as always i am IN LOVE with your ideas and where you take them and explore with the space.
Please can I have Eddie who doesn't completely GET sports but he DOES get collecting so he has one of those card books and collects basket ball trading cards. He has a full page of 'Steves' that he every proud of because he's drawn on some of them, giving him different outfits/hair/facial hair/speech bubbles, some include dragon hatcher steve, android steve, malibu barbie steve and pronstache steve (that one wasn't even drawn on, Steve was just trying something new and it got immortailised in a trading card much to Eddie's delight. His personal favourite is a Steve mid spin of the ball on his fingertip, the image of concentration and Eddie has yet to see a photo that highlights the muscle and bite-ability of Steve's arms quite as well as that one.
When Eddie and Steve are out for dinner and Eddie sees a little kid wearing a shirt with Steve's name on it he's quick to point it out to the delight of his boyfriend, both of them trying to figure out a way to subtly let the kid know that 'Harrington' is here.
Eddie who turns up to games with the kids and a foam finger because 'Steve come on its hilarious' but in reality he just loves obnoxiously supporting him. Steve kisses his finger tips and waves to Eddie before running to join the team in the changing rooms. Eddie who catches it and stuffs it in his pocket in the most dramatic way possible. Steve who laughs every time because he wouldn't have it any other way.

Helloo 🤗 If it is okay, I want to request an angst to fluff with Nakagoshi x reader who is Yasushi’s sister/best friend :’)) It would be really interesting 🙃 Feel free to ignore it ofc, love you honey and looking forward to read all of your works 🌸💕
ʙᴀᴄᴋ ᴛᴏ ᴍᴇ
Tumblr media
Pairing: Nakagoshi Dai x afab!reader
Summary: Nakagoshi lived in self-pity as the regret of not confessing sooner killed him every day, so much so that even looking at her best friend, Yasushi, became unbearable. But by luck, worlds collide, and unsaid words finally brought closure, even if it was four or so years later
Warnings: reader is Yasushi’s best friend, angst to fluff,Nakagoshi & reader are around 17-18, swearing, Nakagoshi & Yasushi live near each other (not canon)
Authors note: first time writing Nakagoshi pls spare me, thankoo chu! n/n = nickname
Request: above!
Tumblr media
Nakagoshi still listened to the CD from middle school. Songs he could never grow tired of because she specifically chose them for him. He could make a playlist on his Spotify, and he did for when he was out but while laying on his unmade bed in the comfort of his room where hip-hop posters covered the walls and clothes scattered on the floor, he liked his stereo blaring the songs that filled the void. It drowned out the regret of not saying goodbye before he left for Oya High all those years back.
The guilt trapped him every day, weighing him like shackles on his ankles. Even when sitting in a classroom at Oya, surrounded by chaos, fighting and Nakaoka shaking him when he wanted his attention, his head just wasn’t in the place and sulked in the back. Fujio had tried to shimmy it out of him, but even he couldn’t go that deep. Some days the regret just got the better of him.
Even more so whenever he saw Yasushi. He reminded him of her, in both a horrible self-loathing and beautiful memory. They hadn’t brought up much either, Yasushi didn’t want to add salt to a wound and Nakagoshi didn’t want to deepen it. But when they did talk, they kept it on the low. God forbid if Kiyoshi found out, he couldn’t keep his own secrets let alone someone else’s. So, there they were – Yasushi and Dai – sat on the bottom steps of their apartment block (grateful that they were still able to live close to each other after Hope Hill, the others not so lucky) under the sombre light with Coke cans loosely wrapped in their hands.  The night blanketed and streetlamps flickered in the silence.
“Y/n asked about you today.” Yasushi took a sip of his can, keeping his gaze on the street opposite him. It was empty, but cats dug around in the bins which was interesting enough.
Dai nodded, “She good?”
“Yeah,” Yasushi paused, giving Nakagoshi a side eye, “She uh…wants to see you. She’s coming to stay for a bit while she’s on break.” Dai pursed his lips, continuing to give a nod of acknowledgement and taking a sip from his own drink. The boys sat in a comfortable silence for a few minutes, before Yasushi crushed his can against the concrete step.
“What bothers you so much, man? What happened that’s got you like this? Y/n asks about you all the time, and why you haven’t returned her texts. What did you do?” His voice raised slightly, launching the can across the street, and missing the bin.
“It’s not what I did do, it’s what I didn’t do. I really like her, dude, and instead of just saying so I watched her with some fucker and barely said goodbye when we left. I can’t answer her texts, what the fuck am I supposed to say? Why would she even wanna talk to me anyway…” Dai groaned, running his free hand through his hair and down his face. He couldn’t lie, his shoulders felt lighter finally saying it aloud. Yasushi pursed his lips, never in his life did he imagine Nakagoshi who threw a fist at any opportunity, spilling his heart on a Wednesday night under a barely working porchlight.
“I dunno…but I think she wants to talk something out. Either way, she gets here Friday afternoon, staying at mine,” Yasushi pushed himself up from the step and started to walk up, “So not far if you wanna kidnap her like the crazy bastard you are.” Nakagoshi rolled his eyes at the comment coming from the Yasushi’s mouth, getting up and following him up the stairs.
--
The Friday came…and passed and Dai hadn’t left his apartment since leaving school early the Friday. Was he avoiding y/n? Yeah. His dad was out for the weekend and so his personal CD blared through the place freely, donning basketball shorts and a simple tank with damp hair from his morning shower, which made him look like an entirely different guy when it wasn’t so backcombed and frizzy. He bobbed his head to the beat of No Diggity, while pacing around his kitchen/living room with his toothbrush hanging from his lips, cleaning up various items to prevent his dad from yelling at him like last time.
After finishing brushing his teeth, he threw himself onto the sofa and checked his phone.
n/n <3: you still listen to the CD?
Almost choking on his own saliva, he shot up straight and pressed pause on his dad’s hifi stack system next the TV. He was also surprised his dad still owned it, but it came in handy for his collection of old CDs and mixtapes. Stumbling to his front door, he opened it with haste, standing bug-eyed at her figure. She’d matured a lot, her face not childish like he remembered, and she still had the most bliss smile he’d ever felt in his chest. Despite her demeanour, her brain bounced off the walls at how much he’d grown: taller, broader, leaner, face sharper but he still had the same absent expression he always had when he wasn’t ready to brawl.
Nakagoshi stepped aside, letting her in before following her through to his living room where she sat on the sofa, on the left side like she always had done. Hesitantly, he sat next to her, a comfortable distance and turning his body to face hers.
“How have you been, D?” her voice calm, eyes softly connecting with his. His shoulders tensed, hands sweating.
He nodded slowly, “Good, I guess.” They paused, looking in opposite directions at anything around his living room. Dai looked at his lap, fiddling with the drawstrings of his shorts. “n/n- I’m really sorry for not replying, it wasn’t you I…ugh…I was a lot of things. Jealous, guilty, sad and I dunno’, I shouldn’t have disappeared without saying goodbye.”
“It’s okay,” she whispered fondly. Dai’s running thoughts came to a halt. “Let’s both just one at a time, blurt out our side and see where it goes.”
He agreed, and she began.
“When you left and didn’t come see me, I didn’t really know how to feel. I came to find you after school, but my parents told me your family had already moved out Hope Hill and Yasushi didn’t know where you were either. I texted, called but you didn’t answer. But because I knew you, I didn’t believe you’d just abandoned me. I ended up leaving…him…” she gulped, scrunching her face up as if she could bear speak his name, “He turned out to be a dick and tried convincing me that you left because he, and I quote, ‘beat you to it’. We never did anything intimate, by the way. He also told me that you and Yasushi jumped him because he beat you at basketball. He said a lot of…things. I didn’t stop trying to contact you because I really did want to see you and I wasn’t mad. I just wanted to know why you didn’t say goodbye.”
“I didn’t say goodbye because I didn’t want it to be the last time I saw you. I always hoped I’d see you again even if you were married or some shit. I had such a big crush on you and the day you gave me the CD with all the songs I reminded you of, I realised I was so down bad. Yes, I still listen to the CD, I listen to it every day. I dunno, it wasn’t the same without you waking me up every morning.” He paused, running his hands down his face, and taking a deep breath.
His voice dropped, becoming raspy as he removed his hands, eyes flickering between hers and his fingers fiddling with the drawstrings again, “I often think that if I had turned out differently, you would’ve chosen me over him. Watching him make you laugh and come home with us made me so mad, and that time Yasushi and I jumped him? It wasn’t over basketball, he called you the number one fuckable girl. Pissed me off because I’d never dream of thinking that, you’re so much more. And it was shit. The worst part is that I still love you.”
“Why is that the worst part?” her face doleful.
“Because you don’t love me back. And I get it, so no need to pretend or some shit.” His heart raced and wiped his clammy hands on his shorts.
“I still thought about you when I was with him. All the time. So much that I ended it and hoped you’d still have me. I came back to find you because I want to be with you as much as possible. I want to patch your wounds, Dai, I’ve been in love with you ever since you gave me that mixtape. So…will you still have me? As your girlfriend?” The fond smile and glossy eyes made his chest explode and he couldn’t say no, not that he would, his moment had come and days of brooding in his bedroom had come to an end, and he could finally breathe.
“C’mere, pretty girl.” He gave a boyish grin, arms wrapping around her waist and pulling her into his chest into a comfortable (and long-awaited) embrace.

Slept Ons: 2023
Tumblr media
Reverend Kristin Michael Hayter
If you write for Dusted, you listen to music all the time and you try, at least within your general area of interest, to stay current with what’s current. Ask any of our significant others, and they’ll say we listen to too much music, to which we inevitably reply “What’s that, this ‘too much’ you speak of?” We listen to music while we’re eating, while we’re working, while we’re exercising, while we’re driving from one place to another, even while we’re brushing our teeth sometimes; though, admittedly, the sound quality is not that great in the bathroom.
Even so, we miss things. Here, in what has become an annual tradition, we revisit some of the albums that slipped away in one fashion or another, the ones that we kept putting off until it was too late, the ones we somehow didn’t catch wind of until well into January, the ones we discovered tardily on other people’s lists and year-end podcasts and radio shows. So here are our late finds, a favorite or two each that we never got the chance to write about. Fortunately, unlike bread and fresh fruit and bunches of cilantro, albums don’t go bad if you let them sit for a while.
Die Enttäuschung und Alexander Von Schlippenbach — Monk’s Casino Live At Au Topsi Pohl (Two Nineteen)
Tumblr media
This record wasn’t so much slept on as patiently sleuthed. Die Enttäuschung, the long-running German quartet (their name translates as The Disappointment, an appellation that says more about their sense of humor than the quality of their ever-buoyant reimagining of bebop and early free jazz) started selling it at gigs in the spring of 2023. I bided my time, and when I made it to Berlin last fall, scoring a copy was on my agenda. To this day, the record and the internet are near strangers; while you can buy it from Bandcamp, there’s no download, streaming or videos. So, you’ll have to just take it from me that Die Enttäuschung’s reunion with now-octogenarian pianist Alexander von Schlippenbach will take wrinkles off your brow. The first time that these musicians recorded together as Monk’s Casino, back in 2005, they performed every one of Thelonious Monk’s compositions over three CDs; pith was essential. The repertoire hasn’t changed this time, but the approach is looser. Crammed into the intimate confines of the now-shuttered Au Topsi Pohl just as Omicron started ruining parties, the five musicians goose the tempos, spike the solos with impertinence, and veer around Monk’s sharp angles with a combination of intimate familiarity and belt-busting abandon.

Reverend Kristin Michael Hayter — SAVED! (Perpetual Flame Ministries)
Not slept on so much as avoided— and why, at this point I am not entirely sure. When I saw Kristin Hayter perform under her previous Lingua Ignota moniker back in December of 2022, she opened with a set of devotional songs on piano, a variety of metallic objects set and chains draped across the instrument’s interior string works. It was extraordinary, and SAVED! features the same basic set of raw, austere elements: that prepared piano, Hayter’s remarkable voice and the problematics of faith. The avoidance may stem from my own fraught relations to the sort of grim Protestantism Hayter reimagines; I spend some time around fire-and-brimstone Baptism as a child, and it left a mark on me. She wove some of that language and those textures into the excellent Lingua Ignota record Sinner Get Ready, but there they were much more symbolic, and largely couched in specific fundamentalisms (Amish and Mennonite) that distanced them somewhat. The sounds and spiritual gestures on SAVED! are a good deal more familiar to me, and they haunt. Likely the haunting is the point. Certainly “All of My Friends Are Going to Hell” and “I Know His Blood Can Make Me Whole” smolder and then burn with varieties of hellfire I have smelled before. One can also hear those songs more metaphorically, and “I Will Be with You Always” (the best thing on the record) is replete with images and intensities that call to multiple levels of meaning, simultaneously and sublimely. SAVED! is a hard record for me to listen to, and that’s why I have come, somewhat belatedly, to prize it so highly.

Illusion of Safety — Pastoral (Korm Plastics)
Daniel Burke has been carefully and consistently nurturing his Illusion of Safety project for 40 years, and I’ve been embarrassingly ignorant of the output until now. Burke released multiple audio artifacts in 2023, including a 40th anniversary ten-cassette box set, so choosing a single album to write about for the Slept On column was a daunting undertaking. Pastoral is unique in that it shows off a more delicate and expansive side of the Illusion of Safety oeuvre. It’s also one of the few music-focused objects that the stalwart Korm Plastics label has released in years; the imprint focuses on the written word these days. Sonically, Burke has established a series of vignettes that follow a similar pattern. The music flows from short, sharp attacks into lengthy sustained quietude. Burke unleashes his jarring, frantic salvos both percussively and synthetically, and these brief but unsettling periods morph into slowly churning drone swarms. Given that this is just one example of Burke’s sonic vernacular, I’m excited to hear more. Thankfully, when it comes to Illusion of Safety, I’ve been a veritable Rip Van Winkle.

Malla — Fresko (Solina)
youtube
So slept on was Malla Malmivaara’s second solo album that even the normally reliable Beehype missed it, but even if you did happen to notice its inclusion on my midyear list, overstating how well-crafted and immersive Fresko’s dance-pop tracks are is hard to do. It makes sense given she’s better known for her acting career, but Malla’s been in the Finnish music game for a long time, too — first in the short-lived mid-aughts house trio Elisabeth Underground, then as herself with 2019’s “Sabrina” single (which got a Jori Hulkkonen remix, a guy who once redid M83) that ended up paving the way for her self-titled 2021 debut full-length. Despite using similar synth arpeggios and a healthy dose of vocal reverb as she did on Malla, Fresko is a little bit darker, moodier, more down in it. Lead single “Moi” (“hi” in English) tells the tale, its perfectly crafted video full of young Rolf Ekroth models doing things like looking impossibly cool in ridiculous outfits and having fashion shows with ATVs in snowy back alley Helsinki parking lots are a perfect marriage of audio and video, images and a melody burned in my brain the moment I saw it. It is very much a dance record flush with tech-house tweaks and no grander artistic ambitions, but Malla’s barely crested 40; now that she’s pledged more time to her music career, it’s entirely possible Fresko is but a warmup for something bolder — and even if it’s not, you could do much worse than a third album full of body movers like this. Hi is right.

Kevin Richard Martin – Black (Intercranial)
Ostensibly a eulogy to Amy Winehouse, Kevin Richard Martin’s Black is a deeply humane expression of isolation, loss and grief. Built from the ground up, the bass deep and warm, swathes of glacial arpeggiated synths and beats that hint at the club. Notes echo and ripple away to create silhouettes of solitude, a tangible manifestation of absence. Despite the deep weight of his music, Martin imbues Black with an incredible delicacy. His abstract architecture allows the mind to roam and the listener to connect with emotional truths. It’s the balance Martin finds between the particular and universal that gives Black it’s power. In the strutting bassline of “Camden Crawling” smeared with narco/alcoholic fuzz, the looming threat of “Blake’s Shadow” and the bleary saxophone in “Belgrade Meltdown” there are the faintest echoes of Winehouse’s sound which emerge from the depths of Martin’s echo chambers. A work of terrible sadness, great beauty, empathy and comfort.
Andrew Forell
Derek Monypeny — Cibola (2182 Recording Company)
Cibola eased into the world as 2022 turned into 2023, but it took me nearly a year to get to it. Monypeny is a confirmed westerner, having lived in Arizona, Oregon, and (currently) the California desert, and an awareness of both the wrongfulness and the good fortune of living in that neck of the woods infuses Cibola, which is named for one of the American southwest’s legendary cities of gold (helpful hint; if you ever encounter a conquistador looking for gold, tell them it’s somewhere else). Monypeny alternates between guitar, shahi baaja, and on electric autoharp the LP’s seven tracks, and Kevin Corcoran contributes time-stopping metal percussion to one of them. The music likewise toggles between stark evocations of space and swirling submersions into nether states. In either mode, Monypeny effectively suggests the gorgeous immensity and pitiless history of the land around him.
Bill Meyer
The Sundae Painters — S-T (Flying Nun)
One minute, The Sundae Painters are churning wild screes of noisy guitar, the next they construct airy psychedelic pop songs of a rare unstudied grace. The band is a super group of sorts — Paul Kean and Kaye Woodward of the Bats, Alex Bathgate of the Tall Dwarfs and the late Hamish Kilgour of the Clean — convening in loose-limbed, joyful mayhem in songs that glisten and shimmer and roar. “Hollow Way” roils thick, muddy textures of drone up from the bottom, the slippery bent notes of sitar (that’s Bathgate) and Woodward’s diaphanous vocals floating free of a visceral murk. “Aversion” lets unhinged guitar shards fly over the thump of grounding drums as Kilgour chants inscrutable poetry. The two HAP tracks, I and II, stretch out in locked-in, psychotropic grooves, relentless forward motion somehow dissolving into an endless ecstatic now. This full-length, sadly the only one we’ll ever have from the Sundae Painters now that Kilgour is gone, is as good as anything that its esteemed participants ever did in their more famous bands, and that’s saying a lot.

U SCO — Catchin’ Heat (Self Released)
Here’s the extent of what I currently know: Someone I have on Facebook posted a link to it as one of his favorite records of the year, and someone I don’t know responded that they bought a copy of the cassette before the first track even finished. U SCO are Jon Scheid (bass), Ryan Miller (guitar), and Phil Cleary (Drums) and they are from and/or based in Portland Oregon. According to Discogs and Bandcamp Catchin’ Heat is the first thing they’ve released since 2016. That’s it! I started listened to this with the same box-checking, due diligence energy I tend to have for the dozen or so records I hear about one way or another after I’ve already done my year-end writing; most of them, every year, I don’t even make it through one play (the fatigue has fully set in by this point in the process). But sure enough before the end of that first track, I knew this was going to have to be the record I slept on. It’s perfectly structured, with extra-long, absolute blowouts beginning and ending the record, the second and second-last tracks being the two shortest and the only moments of relative calm, and the middle two making up a strong core that both brings in some elements not found elsewhere on Catchin’ Heat (the vocals on “trrrem”) and is just the most straightforward version of the absolute burners U SCO can clearly summon up on command (“woe dimension”). As great and arresting as that opening track is, though, the closing “abyssal hymn” might be the real highlight here, bringing in clarinet and saxophone to add a whole new layer of skronk to what they’re cooking. I’ve listened to this record about 10 times in a couple of days, and they deserve to sell out of that run of cassettes.

DIABOLIK LOVERS CHAOS LINEAGE Stellaworth Tokuten Drama CD: “The Vampire’s Every Day: Board Game Edition ~ Kou/Yuma VS Carla/Shin ~”
Tumblr media
Original title:「ヴァンパイア達の日常ボードゲーム編~コウ・ユーマVSカルラ・シン~」
Source: Diabolik Lovers Chaos lineage Animate Tokuten Drama CD
Audio: Here
Seiyuu: Suzuki Ryouhei, Tatsuhisa Suzuki, Morikawa Toshiyuki & Morikubo Shoutarou
Translator’s note: This set of drama CDs has been incredibly entertaining so far and while this one definitely has some great moments as well, I am a bit sad to see that it follows a different pattern from the Sakamaki’s CDs. Instead of playing a magical board game in which all events from the game also occur in real life, they’re instead working as teams and facing off against each other. That being said, there are a bunch of hilarious moments, so I’d definitely recommend giving it a listen!

The crowd cheers.
*Clap clap clap*
Yuma: Fuck yeah! We won this match too!
Kou: Mmh~! Victory is as good as ours now! …Well then, I wonder who we’re up against in the finals?
Carla: …Your opponent would be us.
Kou: Why are you two Founders participating in a gaming tournament organized by Kaminashi City’s department store…!?
Shin: Why does it matter? Is there a rule that forbids us Founders from joining?
Kou: I didn’t say that, did I?
Shin: I mean, you guys are participating as well despite being Vampires, aren’t you? What’s your motive?
Yuma: What do ya mean? ‘s obvious! We have no win no matter what to get our hands on the prize!
Carla: Heh. I see. I suppose you two are also after…that.
Yuma: Yeah, exactly! …Distributed only by Kaminashi City’s department store…
Carla: The exclusive, hand-selected goodie box, is it?
Yuma: Exactly! We need to win that prize at all costs! He…Ruki is sitting at home, eagerly waiting for us to bring back that box which has both soy sauce AND detergent amongst other things.
Kou: Mmh. I mean, it's not actually that serious of a matter. Anyway, Ruki-kun told us to bring the prize back home. It’s such a rare chance to get both soy sauce and detergent for free, so we definitely want to win to help Ruki-kun in his money-saving endeavors! So please, would you be so kind as to let us have the win~?
Shin: Haah? Don’t be ridiculous! We have our own reasons why we want that prize so badly. Right, Nii-san?
Carla: Exactly…One of the items granted to the winner is a cured ham sample set. I need to get my hands on this no matter what. Therefore, we will mercilessly destroy everyone who stands in our path. Yes, for the sake of my cured ham…!
Yuma: Interestin’! We also made a deal with Ruki that in return for helpin’ him save money, he’ll increase the amount of side dishes at dinner by one! So in this match…Founders or not, we’re not losin’ to ya bastards!
*Diiiing*
Yuma: So? What are we playin’? I’m pretty sure the final match has some kind of special ruleset?
Kou: Mmh! Exactly! Let me see…According to the tournament’s official guidelines…
*Flip*
Kou: Seems like it’s a quiz of some sorts.
Shin: Yup, you’re right. Come on, look at your feet. The ground looks like a huge board game, doesn’t it? First you have to spin this roulette over here, then proceed as many squares as the number you rolled, before answering the question written on there. If both of you can give a correct answer, you get to stay on that spot. If you get it wrong, you have to go back to the previous square you were on. I guess whichever duo reaches the goal first, takes the win. As for the quiz part, apparently it’s meant to test just how much you know about your partner. Well, I’m sure it’ll be a piece of cake with the excellent teamwork between Nii-san and I. Heh.
Kou: Hehe~ We won’t lose in that regard either! …Right, Yuma-kun~?
Yuma: Guess so. We’ve got a long history together, so we pretty much have a mutual understandin’ of each other!
Carla: Thoughtless fools. We shall give you a taste of your own incompetence. Let the match begin! Brace yourself, Mukami brothers.
Yuma: Yeah! Bring it on!
Kou: Okay then~! The coin toss decided that Yuma-kun and I will go first. Yuma-kun, please make sure not to break the roulette when you spin it, okay?
Yuma: Yeah, I know! ‘Kay! Time to spin this bad boy!
Yuma spins the roulette.
Yuma: One, two, three, four…Yup! This is the one! Let’s see…What does it say? ’Answer with your partner’s hobby’. …Hah! These questions are even easier than I thought!
Kou: Is it really? I’m expecting a correct answer now, Yuma-kun!
Shin: Hey! You can’t talk with each other once you’ve started writing down the answer, okay?
If you do, I’m getting you both disqualified on the spot!
Kou: Oh shut up! We know that! …Here, Yuma-kun. Write the correct answer on this board. I’ll also write mine, so make sure to get my hobby right, okay?
Yuma: Yeah! Leave it to me!
*Scribble scribble*
Shin: …This quiz really is way too easy. I’m pretty sure he’ll actually get this one right. We might just lose at this point, so isn’t there some way I could…? …! Right!
Carla: Hm? What’s the matter, Shin? Did you think of something?
Shin: Hey, Nii-san! By the way…Have you heard the latest rumor yet?
Carla: …Oi, no need to shout, I can hear you just fine either way. A Founder should know better than to make a fuーー
Shin: (whispers) Oh come on, Nii-san! Just play along with me for a sec! (talks louder again) Word has it that a certain Mukami Kou has been attending yoga classes at the school right across the station!
Carla: Hooh? Yoga, you say? I must say, he has a good taste. I have actually taken an interest in it as of late as well. Yoga is actually quite complex, you see, improving both one’s physical and mentalーー
Shin: (whispers) Sorry, Nii-san! I promise I will listen to your lecture on the benefits of yoga some other day!
ーー No, no! I’ve just been spotting him by the station quite often during the weekend as of late, so I’m sure he’s pretty passionate about it! I was so surprised, I even double checked to make sure it was really him!
Yuma: …Hah? Kou’s goin’ to the yoga school? That’s a first for me though…I thought he liked dance instead? Don’t tell me…Did he change hobbies recently!? Ugh…I’m confused now!
Shin: Hehe…He’s hesitating for sure! You better it all wrong now, Yuma!
Carla: Shin. Which yoga school would you personally recommend to me? As a Founder, I do not want to attend just any run-of-the-mill yoga class.
Shin: Yeah...Right. We can talk about that later, okay?
*Whistle*
Yuma: …Fuck! I gotta make up my mind at some point! I’m goin’ with this as my answer!
*Scribble scribble*
Kou: H-Hey, Yuma-kun? Everything alright over there? It looked like you were struggling quite a bit…
Yuma: Y-Yeah…! I’m fine! There’s no way I’d get this wrong ‘bout you!
Kou: Mmh, you’re right. I have faith in you! Let’s reveal our answers at the same time then! Ready…Go!
They both flip their boards around.
Yuma: Yoga!
Kou: Dance!
Yuma: Hah!?
Kou: Eh!?
*BZZZZT*
Kou: Hold up! Yuma-kun!? How could you get this one wrong!? When did I ever mention liking yoga!?
Yuma: Ah!? B-But they were talkin’ ‘bout it! They said you’ve gotten hooked on the stuff as of late and have been attendin’ some kind of yoga school!
Kou: Why would you believe what our opponent says!? That was obviously a lie! This sucks~ Just how many years have we spent together now!? You idiot! Doofus!
Yuma: Hah…? A lie…? Then, they…tricked me?
Kou: So you actually did believe them…I can’t believe you fell for such an obvious scheme…I had faith in you too…
Shin: Hehehe…! You have to be pretty naive to fall for that. I guess this just proves that Vampires really are the inferior species amongst us.
Carla: My thoughts exactly. It is simply laughable how you would believe the enemy over your own brother and ultimately fall for such a blatant lie. Now be a man and accept your defeat.
Shin: …I mean, you kind of fell for it too, Nii-san. …Anyway, it’s finally our turn! We’ll show you two the true strength of us Founders! I’m going to spin the roulette now!
Shin spins the roulette.
Shin: Five! Come on, Nii-san. Onwards we go!
Carla: Yes.
Shin: One, two, three, four…and five! Let’s see…Our question is also ‘answer with your partner’s hobby!’
Carla: Heh. I see. That’s it? No big deal. …Shin. I can trust that you know exactly what my hobby is, correct?
Shin: Yeah! Leave it to me, Nii-san!
*Scribble scribble*
Kou: Fuck…It’d be so frustrating if this leads to our loss… …Hey, Shin-kun~ Did you know? Carla-kun’s hobby is actually bonsai art~!
*Whistle*
Shin: You must be a fool if you think I’m going to fall for that.
Carla: Truly idiotic. I have only dabbled a little into the art of bonsai.
Shin: Exactly! Nii-san has nevーー …Eh!? You actually have!? Hold up. My current answer is the correct one, right? Your hobby is actually still ‘that’, isn’t it!? I’m going to turn around my board now, okay? It’ll be fine, right!? Ready…go!
*Thud*
Carla & Shin: Collecting paintings
*Ding ・ dong*
Carla: Correct. …Well, I suppose that was only to be expected.
Shin: Phew, thank god…! I was sweating for a second there, but I guess we are the best after all!
Kou: Aah~ I guess they got one step ahead of it.
Yuma: Don’t sweat it, Kou. It’s only the first round! We can still turn things ‘round, can’t we? So don’t give up hope and let’s keep goin’!
Kou: Yuma-kun…Mmh! The game has only just started! It’s our turn again now! Let’s push forward!
Yuma: Yeah! That’s the spirit! …’Kay! I’m gonna spin the roulette!
*Rattle*
Yuma: Three! Let’s go.
Kou: Yes~!
They proceed three squares.
Yuma: So, what’s written on there now?
Kou: Um…Let’s see…’How tall is the Kaminashi Tower? Choose the string with the correct answer.”
Yuma: Haah!? The fuck’s with that serious quiz question…!? It has nothin’ to do with the damn theme either! How are we supposed to know that!?
*Tick tock tick tock tick tock*
Kou: Uwah…They’ve even got that timer music playing in the background…This sort of thing always makes me even more nervous.
Shin: Hey, what’s wrong, Mukami’s~? How about you stop dawdling and pick an answer already? Don’t tell me you can’t even answer such an easy question?
Yuma: Aah…!? Don’t be grinnin’ over there! Shin, that bastard…I dare bet that he doesn’t know the answer either!
Kou: Aah, but what to do? I have no idea either! …Hey, do you know, Yuma-kun?
Yuma: What makes ya think I do!? …Wait, hold up…But Ruki said somethin’ ‘bout the height of Kaminashi tower the other day…
Kou: Eh? Really!? Come on, remember it, Yuma-kun! Quick, hurry~!
Yuma: Don’t be ridiculous! Back then I honestly didn’t give a flyin’ fuck so I kind of just listened mindlessly and don’t remember any of it!
Kou: Poor Ruki-kun…At least pretend to be interested in the things he talks about every now and then…
*Whistle*
Yuma: Time’s up already!? Aah, whatever! It’s probably this one! Ready? I’m gonna pull the string!
Kou: Go ahead! At this point, I just have to trust you! Pull it with everything you’ve got!
Yuma: Ready…go! There!
Yuma pulls the string.
*PANG*
*SPLASH*
Kou: Waaah…!
Uu…This sucks…Why didn’t they tell us we’d get water dumped all over us if we picked the wrong answer?
Yuma: Ugh…What did I do to deserve this…?
Shin: Aah~ That was hilarious! Thanks for giving me such a great show! I guess winning this whole thing will be easier than we thought. Thank god we ended up against you guys in our final match.
Kou: Keh…I can’t believe we haven’t earned a single point yet. I’m feeling really dispirited right now.
Carla: It was only to be expected with us as your opponents. Well then, Shin. Spin the roulette for the next round.
Shin: Good idea. I think it’s about time we end this farce.
*Rattle*
Shin: Six, huh? If we can get the question right, we’ll be right at the finish line! One, two, thee, four, five…six!
Carla: This square, huh? Shin. What is written on it?
Shin: For some reason, it’s the only one in a different color. Let’s see…’Special square’, it says.
Carla: What does that mean?
Shin: Hmー I see…Apparently everyone has to compete for this one, including Kou and Yuma.
Carla: I see. I suppose this is the ideal opportunity to show the overwhelming difference in power between us. Yuma! Kou! Both of you, come join us here!
Kou and Yuma walk up to them.
Yuma: ‘Join us here’, my ass! Don’t be tellin’ me what to do!
Kou: What’s going on? Seems like you landed on a special square? What will happen?
Carla: Apparently we have to undergo a trial in which we are confined to this area and must mercilessly hurl these sheer white solidifications of fat at the opponent’s vital points
Yuma: Hah!? I have no idea what you’re sayin’, mate!
Kou: Sometimes Carla-kun truly speaks in riddles, doesn’t he?
Shin: Are you guys making fun of him!? It’s not his fault that you’re too stupid to understand him! Fine, I’ll explain it in a way that anyone can understand, okay? We’re going to battle it out in what you’d call a ‘pie throwing contest’ by human world standards. Whichever pair can collect the most points by hitting the opponent with these pies, wins.
Carla: Furthermore, it says that whoever wins this battle, will automatically win the entire game. It would appear to me that we can settle the score with this.
Yuma: Hah! I like the sound of that! Not only does it save a bunch of time, but the rules are nice and simple!
Kou: Guess so~! Yuma-kun, this could be our chance! If we can collect a bunch of points, we could run away with the victory!
Yuma: Yeah. They’ve really made a fool out of us the whole time, so I think it’s time we return the favor.
Shin: Ah-ah~ I have to say, you sore losers really got lucky. Our victories from earlier are basically in vain now.
Carla: Oh well, it is fine. All we have to do is win, regardless of the conditions. It is as simple as that. Our mission remains the same.
Shin: I guess you’re right. As to be expected of Nii-san! You always know exactly what to say!
Yuma: Oi, ya fuckers! How much longer are ya gonna blabber on for!? Stop whinin’ and let’s get this battle started!
Carla: Very well. As you wish, I shall have you succumb to me at once.
*Ding*
Yuma: Let’s get this party started! …Take this!
*SPLAT*
Carla: How insolent…
Shin: Hah…!
*SPLAT*
Kou: …Woah! That was close! …Time for revenge!
They continue throwing pies at each other.
Shin: You’re only wasting your time…! Just admit defeat already!
*Woosh*
*SPLAT*
Kou: Wah! We’re going to win this one no matter what…!
*SPLAT SPLAT*
Carla: I must say…You have some nerve to throw those fatty clumps at me.
*SPLAT*
Shin: Hah…!
*SPLAT*
Shin: Fuck! I can’t get any of them to hit…! Stop running around from left to right…! You pesky littleーー God!
Kou: Hehe~ You can throw in the towel if you want~
*SPLAT SPLAT*
Yuma: Ah…Fuck! You’re so damn persistent! Just give up already…!
*SPLAT*
Shin: Why don’t you two admit defeat instead!?
*SPLAT SPLAT*
Carla: Shin. We are running out of time. Let us settle this with our next throw.
Shin: Yeah, I know, Nii-san! This is the end for you two…!
*SPLAT*
Yuma: Hah! Why are ya talkin’ as if you’ve won already!? We’re the ones who will land the final blow!
Kou: Exactly! Let’s grab the win…and bring back home those prizes to Ruki-kun and Azusa-kun!
Yuma: Yeah! This is it!
*Woosh*
*SPLAT*
Carla: Hah. Do not get ahead of yourself. As if we would ever lose to a mere bunch of Vampires.
Shin: Let’s go, Nii-san! …Uwah!?
*Thud*
Shin: Owowow…What happened? My foot slipped…I’m covered in cream now as well…This seriously sucks…
Carla: Ugh…Shin…Shin!!
Shin: Nii-san, what’s wrong!? It looks like you can barely breathe! …Wait? Uwah! I’m so sorry!! I stepped on the edge of your scarf!
Carla: Shin…! Please just…step…aside…
Kou: Hahaha! What are those guys doing? Yuma-kun, I think this might be our chance~! Finish it with those two pies in your hands!
Yuma: Gotcha! …Take this!!
*WOOSH*
Carla & Shin: …!?
*SPLAT*
Kou: We did it! Right in their faces!
Carla & Shin: Ugh…
*DING ・ DING*
*Clap clap clap*
Yuma: Phew…That was the bell signalin’ the end of the game.
Kou: Hooray! Look at the scores! We turned things around and won!
Yuma: Yeah!
Shin: No way…You’ve got to be kidding me…
Carla: Ridiculous…How could I lose…?
Kou: Fufu~ Check that out, Yuma-kun! Their sheer white faces are a must-see!
Yuma: Ahaha! You guys look hilarious! I’m pretty sure I’ll remember this moment forever! Hahaha…
Shin: How dare you throw a pie in Nii-san’s face…I won’t let you make a laughingstock of him like that!
Kou: What are you saying? His face ended up covered in cream because you tripped, remember?
Carla: I cannot believe it…I lost to some lowly Vampires…
Yuma: You should just genuinely admit defeat. ‘Almighty Founders’
Shin: I won’t…I refuse to accept this…!!!

Hey P! It's me, Charlie (of SentientCave fame). I would love to see a little Retail hell AU (I've got the B&Q blues because it's been so long since I've seen our favourite boys in orange). Pick your poison:
The lads get their hands on the store playlist. What do they want to listen to?
Does Dear Reader ever bump into the lads outside of work?
Thanks P! Love you xoxo
charlie of @sentientcave fame! hiya friend! excuse me while i send you hearts for a sec because i am in LOVE with your writing. that instalment of retirement party? sheeeeesh! also my eternal love goes to ripper from rugby au as always.
ooooh retail hell au, i've missed these guys too! charlie, as you've given me the choice of two prompts i'm going to pick the first one to answer (and pop your other prompt in my brain soup document because i think it would be very funny to have our resident B&Q babe (the reader) run into the lads from store 141 while she's out and about at various points).
so for your first prompt i'll need to give you a bit of B&Q lore to start with.
when i worked there, B&Q were too fucking tight to pay for a licence to play live or recorded music in their stores (this might've changed in recent years but i doubt it) so they'd use a particular CD sent from the head office with "licence free" music and adverts to play over the tannoy system. the licence free music was basically some band that sounded nearly like the artist they were covering singing nearly the correct lyrics.
as a music lover, it was painful. as a retail gremlin, nothing would give me more joy than breaking into song and shimmying at my coworkers to the horror of management. i got written up for it once because a customer complained. fun sponge.
anyway, that CD had to be played during store opening times at all times, no exceptions. however, outside of those times the duty manager would take over the tannoy system. if you got a good manager they'd play their playlist, if you got a shit manager you'd be left wandering the store in silence. if you got a really shit manager, you'd be subjected to the dreaded CD for however long you were there for. ugh.
sorry that got longwinded.
to answer your prompt: the only people that would get away with changing the store playlist would be price or simon as neither johnny, kyle or our resident B&Q babe have duty manager privileges (boo!). i mean technically simon doesn't have duty manager privileges officially but he's usually the first one in with price on a morning or running the night shift by himself so fuck it, acting duty manager privileges count.
as for what they'd play? i don't have a clue but i suspect they both share a fondness for rammstein, slipknot and oddly enough gerry cinnamon.

Pride 🏳‍🌈
Summary:  Yasmin Khan is feeling a little down this June. Luckily for her, she's got a community of people around to support her. Happy Pride, everyone!
                                                Read on AO3.
~~~~~~~~~~
Yasmin Khan sighed, and stretched out on the sofa.
It was now June; it was just over a year since she had returned to life on Earth, and she was slowly starting to grow used to normal life. She hadn’t returned to her previous job; instead, she’d been promised a free-lance post by Kate Stewart. Apparently, U.N.I.T wanted people with experience dealing with extra-terrestrial affairs.
Yaz supposed that description fitted her well. In more ways than one.
She was enjoying living in London, though; granted, it was a marked departure from Sheffield, but the place wasn’t all bad. The group that Graham had helped set up the previous year had gone from strength to strength, and Yaz was enjoying the support of other people who had been through similar experiences as her.
Maybe not exactly the same. She already knew that most people who had travelled in the TARDIS weren’t… well, didn’t have the same sort of relationship with a certain time lord as Yaz had done.
Martha Jones had been a great help. Not only had she helped Yaz work through some of her grief (helped by the other people from the support group) but she had also had Yaz move in as her roommate.
It was a nice flat too; granted, it was a little strange not to live somewhere without her mum and dad poking their heads through her door, but Yaz had started to really enjoy it.
Even if her heart still clenched a bit whenever she saw a packet of custard creams.
She missed the Doctor. Her Doctor. Maybe she always would.
Knock. Knock.
Yaz frowned. Martha had her key on her, and she wasn’t expecting any visitors. She got up and walked down the corridor to the front door.
‘Oy!’ came a familiar voice. ‘AA here; c’mon, let me in!’
Yaz smiled, bemused. Ace McShane had started styling herself as “AA” to Yaz (short from “Auntie Ace”) and, while Yaz already had enough aunts as it was, she appreciated the sentiment nonetheless.
Yaz opened the door.
‘Heya!’ declared Ace, thumping Yaz on the shoulder as she barged into the flat. ‘Don’t worry; we brought the correct snacks this time. No custard creams in sight!’
‘What?’ Yaz said, weakly, as what seemed to be half the companion support group followed Ace through the door. ‘How- why are you all-’
‘Listen, I know you said you didn’t want to go to Pride this year,’ Ace said, grinning widely. ‘You didn’t want to deal with the crowds. So we brought Pride to you!’
Sure enough, most of them were festooned in rainbow flags of various types. Dan was even wearing a loud rainbow wig as he grinned at Yaz.
‘Ace…’ Tegan Jovanka said, eyes narrowing. ‘I thought you said Yaz was expecting us.’
‘Well… she is now,’ Ace replied, shrinking a little under the Australian’s glare. ‘Same difference, really…’
‘I swear to goodness…’ Tegan sighed, rubbing the bridge of her nose, before turning and placing her other hand softly on Yaz’s shoulder. ‘I’m sorry, Yaz; we won’t force you to celebrate it if you don’t want to.’
Yaz smiled at the older woman. Tegan was definitely something of an aunt to her now as well, although she had so far avoided using any nicknames.
‘Ta, Tegan, but I think I probably could do with some moral support about now. Happy Pride, ‘n all that.’
‘Great!’ Ace said, bouncing cheerfully on her heels. ‘Right; into the living room, everyone!’
‘Cool,’ Yaz replied. ‘Be w’you in a mo; just grabbing some stuff from m’room.’
She headed along the corridor and entered her room. She grabbed a few CDs, a couple of rainbow flags, and some of her favourite queer films.
‘You sure you’re okay, Sheffield?’
Dan was stood in the doorway, having removed his rainbow wig.
‘Thanks, Dan,’ Yaz said. ‘But I really am fine. I was feeling a bit mardy by myself today; you lot arrived at the perfect time.’
‘Great,’ the Scouser replied, smiling widely. ‘You think this wig suits me? Di said I’d give you a fright wearing it.’
Yaz chuckled, clicking her bisexual flag pin to the front of her t-shirt.
‘Looks cool, mate,’ Dan said, giving her the thumbs-up sign.
‘Yeah,’ Ryan said. ‘Very you.’
‘Ta,’ Yaz replied. ‘But I’m still not giving y’ Sonja’s number.’
‘Oh, your mum gave it me already.’
Yaz rolled her eyes.
Ryan was staring at a picture on the wall. It was of Yaz and Sonja’s shared bedroom when they were younger.
‘I didn’t know you fancied the lady from “Broadchurch”,’ he said, pointing to the background of picture, where a magazine clipping of a brown-haired woman was awkwardly attached to the wallpaper with blue-tac.
‘Shut up.’
‘Hey, she kinda looks like-’
‘Shut. Up.’
Ryan chuckled, before patting Yaz on the shoulder.
The three of them headed into the living room, where the various people had arranged themselves on chairs. Those who were a bit younger had nestled themselves comfortably on the floor.
‘Nice!’ Ace grinned, as Yaz placed the various CDs and DVDs on the table. ‘Rocky Horror? You have great taste!’
Yaz grinned, as she removed the disc from its case and set it into the DVD player under the TV. She then seated herself on the sofa, in a place that had presumably been reserved for her.
Nearby, Tegan was sat, hand-in-hand, with Nyssa of Traken. The curly-haired woman had arrived on Earth barely a few months before. In that time, Tegan had gone from “I’m glad to have my best friend back” to “okay maybe I have some underlying feelings I ignored back in the eighties” before finally landing on “me and Nys kissed each other in my kitchen the other day and now we’re dating”.
It was actually really sweet to see the two of them together. Tegan looked happier than Yaz had ever seen her and, judging from what Ace had said, Nyssa had fallen head-over-heels for the Australian in the same way.
Well, by the sounds of it, they had been in love whilst they had both been travelling in the TARDIS, but details. What mattered was, they had found each other again.
‘Hello Yasmin,’ Nyssa said, smiling kindly at the younger woman. ‘How are you feeling?’
‘Fine,’ Yaz replied. The Trakenite woman always insisted on calling Yaz by her full name. ‘How are you? Settling in okay with Tegan?’
‘Tegan is lovely as ever,’ Nyssa said, smiling at her partner. The Australian’s cheeks pinkened slightly as she smiled back. ‘Well, when Ace isn’t barging in at nine-thirty in the evening, that is. She was giggling like a hysterical adolescent.’
‘Hey!’ Ace said, as everyone laughed. ‘It was quite a shock, walking into the sitting room to find Nyssa with her hand down Tegan’s-’
‘Ace!’ Tegan exclaimed, face flashing crimson.
Every else, including Nyssa, bit down a laugh.
‘Sorry, Tee,’ Ace replied, not looking remotely apologetic. ‘Anyway, we are all really happy for you both.’
‘Thank you, Ace,’ Nyssa said, squeezing the still-flustered Tegan’s hand. ‘We really appreciate it. Although… maybe next time, try knocking instead?’
Ace let out a bark of laughter.
‘Nevermind us,’ Tegan said, smiling grimly to herself. ‘What about you, Ace?’
‘I don’t know what you mean.’
‘Well, I mean, the fact that, earlier, you seemed to be holding hands with both Graham and Mel was rather telling.’
Ace pretended not to hear. Both Mel and Graham avoided eye contact, going a little red in the face.
‘Yaz, can you hit play on Rocky Horror?’ Ace said, turning to the Yorkshirewoman. ‘Is this the sing-along version? I hope you lot have your vocal chords all warmed up…’
 *
 Several hours later (and after several other musicals with the sing-along versions selected), Yaz had decided to get some fresh air, standing on the small balcony. Inside, she could hear the sounds of her friends laughing and chattering awa; Martha and a few others had turned up over the intervening hours, and the place was now filled with those cosy feeling that came with many friends all packed into a small flat.
Yaz stared up at the stars in the night sky above.
She knew the pain would never really go, but… that was okay. Grief was a form of love, after all. She had loved her time with the Doctor. Her Doctor. And she would always smile when she remembered that wonderful blonde alien, who had fallen from the stars and into her heart.
Yaz walked back inside, closing the door behind her. In the living room, someone had found Yaz’s cd-tape-radio set. Mel, ever the pragmatist, was trying to gently advise Ace that the rest of the assembled people probably didn’t want to listen to the greatest hits of Bikini Kill.
‘But “Rebel Girl” is basically my theme!’
‘Love, please…’ Mel said, placing a hand gently on Ace’s arm. ‘For me?’
A small smile appeared on Ace’s face.
‘Alright, doughnut,’ she said. ‘For you. But no soppy love songs-’
‘Too late,’ Tegan said, pressing play on the set. ‘Hope you all like my 80s favourites CD.’
Ace rolled her eyes, but didn’t complain further, instead choosing to lean against the wall. A song started up, with an synth keyboard solo.
Looking from a window above… it's like a story of love… can you hear me…
‘Nys?’ Tegan asked, reaching out a hand to the Trakenite woman. ‘May I have this dance?’
Nyssa smiled, her cheeks pinkening slightly.
‘Of course, my darling,’
Nyssa took Tegan’s hand, and the two women began to dance gently together.
Can you hear me… all I needed was the love you gave… and all I needed for another day… and all I ever knew… only you…
‘Thanks for today,’ Yaz said, coming to stand beside Ace, as they continued to watch Tegan and Nyssa sway softly. ‘I think I needed this.’
‘Hey, what are friends for?’ Ace replied, grinning. ‘We’re here for you, Yaz; no matter what.’
Yaz smiled. Yes, she had experienced a fair amount of hurt, but also a lot of love. And, during Pride of all times, it was important to remember love. From the sheer romance of the two older women dancing a few feet away, to the friendship that she felt with every person in the room. It was everywhere.
Yaz sighed, contentedly. She’d be okay.
Thanks for reading, everyone! Hope you enjoyed this fic based in my little "companion support group" nicheverse.
@pikslasrce tagged me to post my top albums from this year :))
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
senses fail - still searching // armor for sleep - what to do when you are dead // senses fail -let it enfold you hollywood undead - hotel kalifornia // boysnightout - make yourself sick // wilbur soot - your city gave me asthma alesana - the emptiness // bedwetters - meet the f@cking bedwetters // bring me the horizon - sempiternal
do not ask me how many times i've listened to these 9 albums idon't even know myself. it's way too much though. i couldn't put all 4 boysnightout albums here so i just stayed at 1 and put it in the very middle because they altered my brain chemistry <33
senses fail gets 2 albums because i didnt spend weeks only listening to those 2 albums for no reason... their lyrics mean sm to me i want to illustrate the albums or songs one day. this goes for both senses fail and boysnightout btw. AND armor for sleep. there's something about that specific album. i realised i really enjoy albums that tell a story. and the fact that i like themes of angst love blood betrayal etc etc is no surprise either. car underwater got played way too many times
i discovered bedwetters thanks to eurovision, they were one of the options for estonia and i ofc found their old and only album (they released a new one a few weeks ago tho) (i dont know why they have 2 spotify accounts. im not asking). i even got to see them live bc they gave a free concert during summer <33333333 i got a picture with the band too !!!!! so cool
the new hollywood undead album got me back into them so im back to being obsessed. i love my silly california guys :3 i've been keeping up with them since and i desperately need to draw them again, this time without their masks!!!! im very glad that i found alesana to be sooo palatable this year because ive tried to listen to them before when i was a teenager and it just... didn't click, even if i tired. so yeah i get to fix that mistake now.
in spring i had a moment where i listened to sempiternal on repeat on the cd player for multiple days straight and in the past month i've, again, been listening to bmth and specifically sempiternal again so it gets a special place, too.
wilbur is just there because i had jubilee line stuck in my head so so so so much and also it's the best study music ever. also wilbur why is i'm sorry boris so silent. i can barely hear it it makes me angry so i always skip it. and then bc its the end of the album it gives me some lmanburg flag cover-art song that i don't like
anyway here's a special mention to these 3 albums because 1) greeley estates - caveat emptor, i just discovered it this week and i am in love. also greeley estates has been in my radar for quite some time now and i find the singers voice to be very pleasant and interesting? the tone does sth for me 2) brand new - deja entendu, for being stuck in my head for a good week because the tommy gun song wouldn't leave my head since it came on shuffle from my saved mp3 list when net was down 3) just surrender - if these streets could talk, because again i was obsessing over this for like a good week before i forgot about it. good album. not available in serbia tho for some reason
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
can you tell i love talking about music that i like. i know nothing about music it just makes me happy. :)
anyway i am tagging uhhhh @varteeny1234 and @complicatedsurgery and uhhh @cactusringed and uhhhh anyone else who wants + i'm not gona tag you, sly, because you only listen to alex g anyway <3
i was tagged by @wormdream to shuffle my music and share the first ten songs that appear. i am doing this from my computer which has some stuff that i don't listen to anymore on it and also has a bunch of live bootlegs and b-side/compilation/unofficial stuff that i'll probably skip for this. thank you, anyways! <3
everything that could have been - kittie. from the album funeral for yesterday. i think there's too much repetition in this song at the end. could have been either condensed down or added some more words to it. i am excited for the new kittie album though!
put your hand inside the puppet head - they might be giants. from their album they might be giants. i love the music video for this song.
a man alone - aaron freeman. i did say i was going to skip the unofficial stuff, but this stopped me in my tracks. i only went through aaron's music once and should totally revisit it again. i have two versions of this on my computer, one is thirty seconds longer than the other. i got the shorter one. very sweet, very somber.
gioco d'azzardo - paolo conte. from his album appunti di viaggio. the instrumentals are great in this. conte is just really good at writing music. i still haven't heard all of his albums though.
paloma - tall juan. my beloved tall juan!!! i got into him in high school whilst looking for free stuff on bandcamp. he is also friends with mac demarco who i used to listen to all the time. i think it's funny how the lesser known artist that i found out about through a bigger artist stuck with me and the larger artist didn't. i was so happy to have seen him in february. he was so nice and very funny.
town to town - hello the band. one of flansburgh's side projects. it's a good song. i think it's interesting to see what they make without the other john.
mad (feat. lil wayne) - solange. from a seat at the table. i haven't listened to this album in a long time. i listened to this a lot in high school. her voice is sooooo beautiful! this is still the only album i have heard by her. i should take the time to listen to her other albums some day. ALSO she had the best song in yo gabba gabba.
the last song - sleater-kinney. from their self titled album. i am still on the fence about them. this is the only album i heard from them, i found it at a thrift store. maybe i'll enjoy their other albums more or maybe i just need to listen to this one more. sometimes whenever i finally listen to an album by a band that is influential within a specific scene, i get the opinion of this is something i would have liked more when i was an angsty teenager and was being introduced to punk with the more well known stuff. like i am at a place where i don't need the introductory stuff, i already have bands that are deeper into that genre that i can jam out to. does that make any sense? they're not bad like listening to ramones or some shit. like why would you waste your time with ramones or sex pistols or some other shitty popular punk band? sleater-kinney i can appreciate and would have loved as a kid when i needed more female fronted bands that were really cool and were more of my style. kittie is another example of this. i do love kittie a lot, but i wish i knew about them before as a kid. we should revisit this topic later.
tender situation - ween. from the album pure guava. ween is another band where i wish i got into when i was a kid. same with tmbg. i think i would have had the opinion that their early stuff was better unfortunately, however, they would have been perfect for fourteen year old me. i could have been burning their stuff onto cds for friends and making them listen to it like i did with daniel johnston. i love ween. i got into them after listening to most of the flaming lips' albums and was so disappointed by their stuff and ween ended up being exactly how i was hoping the flaming lips would sound.
(system)control - bleed the pigs. from the mortis fatum ep. FANTASTIC BAND! exactly what i needed after listening to so much boring indie rock. i neeeeeed to listen to more bands like them. the mixing is exactly what i like with the vocals not being too high up which i find is a problem in a lot of metal and punk and just rock in general. everything about them is just perfect!
well...i won't tag anyone for this. the commentary wasn't even part of the tag game, i just like to talk about music.
Enjoy my rant of me creating a found family trope out of the freaking mafia
Listen, there are plenty of moments in the show where the wiseguys appear that makes them seem like a family. Obviously, Tony is the father because he always seems like a good guy when taking care of his friends and also because he has a son of his own, So I'd imagine his father instincts also come in handy for his gang members. Then Legs I mean he is already seen as like the Caretaker of the gang, he is know to be a experienced Mob Doctor and possible Therapist. So he'd be the guy that would visit you while you were sick at home and bring food. But since we're talking family-wise, I'd say he's the oldest of the family. First-born and has seen so much chaos through-out his life. He possibly matured at a young age after his two siblings were born and so is just vibing. A brother that just sits on the couch, listens to you if you have problems but mainly just there to chill. Not that much at home because of his own life and would be considered the thanksgiving sibling who only comes like-- maybe one time each four months. Then there's Johnny, the ain't saying nuthin type, who really is just a caporegime and not actually part of Fat tony's inner circle which would make sense since he's betrayed them like three times. Like his nickname, Johnny says very little, which often makes it hard to figure out what his personality is like. BUT he seems like the serious and self-reserved type, takes his job serious and can be a bit annoying at times. I guess he could be the type of older brother that has already done every single little party trick in the book and now being grown up and better knowing, he lectures his younger siblings how to be safer in life and gives them tips to not get caught by the police like he once got. Oh yeah, he definitely had a wild young adulthood, if you know what I mean~ Since Frankie is never that much around and involved in the shenanigans with the others, possibly because of his squeamish nature, I still wanna include him since he's part of the family. Frankie is THAT younger brother, the one who you would need to always keep an extra eye on him because if you look for just ONE SECOND away he has already ate a flower to find out what it tastes like, beat down a bee hive to just wanna say hi to the friendly bees and has most definitely ate sand. Nonetheless, he's a bit much. And Louie, the baby of the bunch, who is just so clingy to Tony that it's adorable. He always makes himself wanna be useful and overall gives off major baby vibes. Though don't let that cute image of him get to you, he's still a skilled hit-man who isn't afraid to kill or wound anyone that stands in his way .... though personally I can't even imagine him killing someone because he's such a baby There was one episode, I can't remember the title, there was one where Louie was seen in the background of a meeting held at the elementary school along with a bunch of other people. When Skinner announced that they were no longer giving away free cookies, Louie was one of the many people that left AND ALSO Along with Fat Tony and Legs, Louie has been seen attending the monthly pancake dinner at the Springfield Catholic Church AND He owns a 'Folk Diva Mix' CD that includes Janis Ian's "At Seventeen." How much more baby can it get?! Safe to say, he's the baby. Papa's favorite boy and so innocent. He's like that one baby brother the other siblings would absolutely kill people over if they even dared to hurt him. Jesus, look at me- I am creating a found family trope out of a literal mafia Meh, at least it's cute to imagine though
Dandelions
Stephanie Brown x Fem Reader
Summary: Exiting you’re favourite shop you bump into the woman of you’re dreams unfortunately you don’t get the chance to ask for her number. Will you ever see her again?
Word count: 3142
Warnings: Reader is purposely awkward and cringe other than that It’s just pure fluff.
Inspiration: This story was inspired by a game/Story called There’s this girl if you haven’t check it out you should I think it’s really cute.
A/N: While I’m working on Someone To Stay P.2 I thought I’d post an old Wattpad story of mine I still plan to continue but I lost a bit of inspiration of it. Hope you like it I have a soft spot for this story ☺️
Sorry for any grammatical or writing errors I hope to edit again some time in the future!
Tumblr media
It was a Autumn Afternoon. leaves of orange, brown and yellow dancing and twirling in the sky if in celebration of the new season, You’d had just exited you’re favourite shop with a smile that went from ear to ear on your face.
“Thank you!” You wave goodbye to the shop owner with a quick spring in your step to make it home. You had just bought a new CD of you’re favourite Artist, though you have the songs already on your phone you couldn’t help but also have a solid version with the bonus of you get a free pin of said artist with purchase, so in your eyes it was a good buy.
You rummage though you’re already full of random pins satchel in search for you’re headphones, once finding them and untangling them you press play on your phone listening to whatever song that came up.
And I've heard of a love that comes once in a lifetime
And I'm pretty sure that you are that love of mine
'Cause I'm in a field of dandelions
Wishing on every one that you'll be mine, mine
And I see forever in your eyes
I feel okay when I see you smile, smile
You close your eyes sinking into your own little world. though, that must not be the smartest thing while walking on a very public sidewalk. You inevitably bump into a solid figure, your eyes jerk open, instinctively grabbing hold to steady yourself. You find yourself holding onto two strong arms that hold onto you protectively around your waist, it was firm to not let you slip but somehow also gentle that felt surprisingly safe, you almost didn’t want to leave their embrace.
Almost.
“I am so sorry!” They exclaim the concern that filled their voice made your heart melt, it was such a genuine care for a complete stranger. A small laugh escapes you startled by your own thoughts, we’re you that socially isolated that you’ve already got a crush on someone you didn’t know? You step out of the stranger’s comforting embrace, running a quick hand through your hair.
“It’s Fine, it was-“ you stop mid sentence caught off guard by the woman in front of you, her eyes made you stop thinking all together. She was the most beautiful woman you had ever seen in your life.
“Hi” You mentally kick yourself on how breathless your voice sounded like you had just finish a running marathon.
The woman laughs, it was joyous and free, making you wish you could bottle the sound. “Hi” she smiles, you let yourself be taken in by her, her blonde hair was flowing down her shoulders like a golden river with her purple clothing it made it stand out to you. You also make note with how she’s wearing a purple scarf, jacket, shirt, pants and boots this girl really liked purple. When Looking her up and down you find her doing the same her eyes stop at the CD in your hands an amuse smile crosses her lips.
“Huh, didn’t think people bought CDs anymore” you felt your checks burns, quickly looking down at your hands hoping she didn’t notice.
“Oh well it’s always be a thing of mine to collect CDs” you shrug trying to play it cool. Stephanie nods in understanding. “Rad” you look up at her with a raise eyebrow unable to stop the smile on your face.
“I didn’t think people said Rad anymore” you remake she responds with another laugh making your heart flutter, you didn’t realise how much you wanted no needed to hear that laugh again. “I’m trying to bring it back” she smiles playfully. “I’m Stephanie By the way” Stephanie offers her hand to you. “Stephanie Brown”
“Y/N” you take her hand hoping not coming off too eager, though you couldn’t help but think how soft her hands were. “Y/N L/N”
“Well, y/n it was great bumping into you” she teases, your face must of been hotter than that sun at this point.
“Likewise” You’ve never shake hands with anyone for this long, neither of you wanting to break the simple contact, you stare into each other’s eyes in a comfortable silence.
Until your phone begins blaring the most ridiculous ring tone you had found thinking at the time it would be funny. Instead embarrassment washes over you in a tsunami.
“Um-Sorry about this” you fretted dropping Stephanie hand, yours suddenly feeling very cold without hers, you can hear Stephanie tell you not to worry though it drowns out when you see who’s calling you, your boss.
“Hey, You okay?” Stephanie ask she must of notice the dread in your expression, you try to brush her off. “I’m fine I just need to quickly answer” you try to reassure her but your voice came out so shaky that you doubt she’d believe it.
“Dr.Isley Hello” you greet thankful you could pull yourself together so quickly. You had only been working for Dr.Isley for a short time as an intern while you study little did you know too late Dr. Isley was also the infamous Poison Ivy back in Gotham. At the time you thought she was going to kill you, instead ivy had told you she found your work to be useful and demanded you help her on a plan of hers, it was that or she’d have your family killed, you weren’t entirely sure if she actually plan to make her threats real and frankly you didn’t want to find out.
“Darling I need you back at the lab now.” She didn’t explain further and she didn’t need to. Hanging up the phone you look to Stephanie her smile had disappeared from her face like you had imagine it all together, instead a expression you couldn’t quite read.
“I’m so sorry about that it was my boss she can be a bit demanding” you say lightheartedly in hopes to break the tension you felt, seeming to shake out of her funk Stephanie gives you a warm and understanding smile.
“Yeah I know how those can be” she says putting her hands in her pocket. Something had suddenly shift between the two of you leaving you uncomfortable.
She’s probably just being polite standing here and you’re being rude holding her up, must be why she feels so uncomfortable
Another tide of embarrassment overwhelms you at the thought.
“I’m really sorry, I should uh go, it was wonderful to meet you!” You bid farewell practically running away from her not wanting to disturb her any longer.
“Wait y/n-“ but you were already gone.
Two Weeks later
You were sitting in Burnside’s library reading on your studies you sigh feeling the stress weighing down on you, with both school and Dr.Isley you barley had time to yourself. Wanting to think on nicer things your thoughts drift to Stephanie, though it was a small encounter you couldn’t seem to get her out of your head, you start wonder about her What did she do for a living? What’s her family like? Did she have similar interests to you? For a bit you find yourself daydreaming of her an all the fun activities you would do together, even if there was no point thinking about her she was long gone.
“y/n?” You lift your head up from your book to see the girl of your dreams smiling at you.
“Stephanie! Um Hi!” You cheer jolting up to your feet to greet her, before Stephanie could reply someone shushes you, you blush forgetting you were in a library. Though when you back look at Stephanie she trying her best not to laugh and you felt yourself having to do the same.
“What are you doing here?” You whisper once the giggles had died in your throat, Stephanie gives you a shrug bringing the books up to her chest. “Oh you know I was planning I would start my rock band here” she jokes. You want to mentally kick yourself again.
Of course that was a stupid question your in a library!
“So what about you?” She asks with a slight tilt of her head.
“Oh nothing, really just learning the fundamentals on how to becoming a Space Cowboy, Surprisingly there’s a lot of Pineapple involved” Stephanie couldn’t suppress her surprise giggle that warm you to your very core.
“is that right?” She asks with an amuse smile on her lips.
You nod not trusting your voice at the moment to not come out a flustered mess.
“Who would of thought, hey maybe we combine our ideas” Stephanie suggests
“Start a rock band with Space Cowboys?”
“Don’t forget the pineapples” she added you laugh at that.
“How could I forget them”
“SHHH!” Someone angrily shushes behind you, you wave at them mouthing to them sorry, turning back to Stephanie you find her biting back a smile. “Mind if I seat here?” She asks pointing to the seat next to yours.
“Yes! I mean No! I mean please sit here and thank you” you blurt out just wishing you could jump out the nearest window, Stephanie just smiles saving you from the embarrassment she sits in her seat and you follow after her.
“So why are you actually here?” She inquires glances at the stack of books on the desk.
“Just studying for school good grades equals good job” though that wasn’t a lie it strangely felt like one, it wasn’t like you could tell her the truth anyway that you were here learning about a plant that was extinct millions of years ago and if brought back could kill all humans, she’d probably think you were a psychopath.
“I suppose” she shrugs leaning back in her chair stretching her arms out giving you a good view of her strong muscles under her shirt and you have try your hardest to not to just stare.
“What about you?” You mange to get out, your throat suddenly feeling very dry.
“I’m here helping a friend, his out on vacation and gave me some instructions to water his plants, there as rare as they can get, so they have very specific instructions but unfortunately I lost his note and I’m hoping if I research them I can learn how to take care of them” she explains “I’m sure your phone has the information you need probably be a lot easier too” you advise her but she just shakes her head.
“I try that, but these plants seemed to only be documented in books” that surprised you, why would someone have rare undocumented plants, you already knew one person who did and they weren’t doing it by the law would it really be a coincidence that there’s another?
“Wow they must be rare” is all that comes out, you didn’t want to accuse Stephanie of anything especially being these weren’t her plants, she didn’t know what he was doing. You worry without getting the proper needs these plants (depending what they were) could be deadly.
“Well, I can help you if you like, I know my fair share of plants” you put on a small smile, Stephanie brighten ups at your help. “Really! That be great!”
The two of you get to work. Stephanie wasn’t kidding to say these plants were rare some of them had to be the last of their species.
“So who is this guy? I’d say you’d have to be a millionaire to get these plants” you question looking over at Stephanie she glances up at you then back to the book seeming hesitant. “Well he sort of is, well he was adopted by one” she shrugs, flipping a page barley interested in the topic but you push a little further.
“Really? Why would he want the plants at all, seems a bit strange to have a collection on and not I don’t know cars”
Stephanie snorts at that like you’ve told her a joke.
“His a strange guy” she smiles fondly your own smile falters at her smile was he possibly more than a friend to her? Did Stephanie even like girls? Did you even have a shot?
Before you could go down a panic spiral Stephanie continues “His name is Tim, you’ll have to meet him sometime” your heart jump at the thought of a next time. But you couldn’t stop thinking about their relationship.
“So is Tim just a friend? Or… a Boyfriend?” You ask hesitantly. Stephanie looks at you what feels like forever with another unreadable expression. you felt your ears getting hotter until she laughs. “No! God No never again”
“Oh” you say trying not to sound too relief.
“Besides, I have someone else who’s been on my mind for awhile” she places her hand over yours and you felt the shiver that course though your body like being zap by electricity. After a moment you break away clearly your throat. “Um I have to get some of my work done I hope I help a bit”
“You help heaps thank you I’m sure I can figure out the rest” she reassured you.
“Alright just let me know, I am happy to help more”
“I know thanks y/n”
After looking down at a book for hours you hadn’t realised it was dark out as you went to sit up, you felt your neck cry in pain.
“Ugh and they say technology back for your back” you groan rubbing your neck you turn to see Stephanie was still next to you, fast asleep with a little drool escaping her lips you smile to yourself at the sight, not baring to wake her up an idea sparks in your head you rip a small piece of paper from your notebook writing down your number then putting it in your jacket before putting it over her shoulder’s as a blanket.
The Next Day
You didn’t have to wait long to hear from her.
You were exiting your apartment building when you get a phone call. “Hello?” You say unaware who’s on the other line.
“Hey! It’s me Stephanie” you had to sallow down the squeals that threaten to escape you.
“Stephanie..... hey” you say trying to sound cool and in doing so go to lean on something though to your quick realisation nothing was there you managed to balance yourself before falling face first.
“I’m glad it’s You, I was worried someone else gave me there jacket and put their phone number in it” she jokes
“I’m glad it was me too” you mumble shyly, it took you a moment to realise what you said and starting rethinking all your life choices. “I was just calling if you wanted to hang out sometime?” Stephanie asks
“Yes! I mean-I would like that very much” you babble our thankful she couldn’t see your face.
“Awesome!” She exclaims matching your enthusiasm, realising she clears her throat “Um... Dose Saturday work for you?” If you didn’t know any better you’d think she was blushing the thought made you smile “Saturday sounds perfect”
“Then I will see you then Beautiful- Y/N I meant to say Y/N but that’s not to say I don’t think you’re beautiful-” she sighs “I think I’m just going to stop talking now”
“Oh don’t stop on my account Gorgeous” you tease attempting your best seductive tone for a moment Stephanie doesn’t respond a feeling of dread drops in your stomach. Had you said something wrong?
“Well, Beautiful I will see you Saturday at 8.pm?” She purrs her voice sending a shiver down your spine.
“looking forward to it.”
Saturday couldn’t come fast enough you had texted Stephanie you’re address and Stephanie made it clear to you to dress casual. You sigh looking at yourself in the mirror. Wearing your denim jacket and rip jeans you felt anxiety bubble inside you, you had always be nervous on first dates but being with Stephanie felt different you wanted to impress her more than anything, before you second guess your outfit a knock is at your door. You jump at the sound glancing back at the mirror.
“You can do this you’re just two people getting to know each other, no big deal” you reassure yourself looking back at your reflection you didn’t look very convinced. You made your way over to the door brushing down imaginative wrinkles in your outfit, you open the door revealing Stephanie you had to take a double check, Stephanie hair was in a braided crown that made her look like a goddess she wore a White sparkle dress that was cut at her waist, the skirt flow to her ankles.
“Hi.” You breathe out unable to put a whole sentence together. Stephanie smiles tucking a string of hair behind her ear. “Hi”
“I- Uh I thought you said to wear casual?” You stammer out feeling very underdressed. Stephanie rubs the back of her neck bashful. “Right, But something came up last minute and I would like you to be my date to Gotham’s annual Gala at Wayne Manor”
“What?!” You exclaim “Gotham is miles away!”
Stephanie gives you a little smirk “Don’t you worry about that” you cross your arms unconvinced Stephanie notices your doubt and offers her hand to you with a gentle smile
“I know this is unexpected, trust me I planned something way better than being in a room with rich snobs” she takes a step closer the heat of her body made your heart race, you were sure she could hear.
“I really like you Y/N I want to get to know you better”
If she couldn’t hear before she definitely was now.
“So, What do you say?”
You stare at the hand for a moment doubt filled your mind, you knew nothing about Stephanie who was she? What she did for work? as fun as a Gala sounded you couldn’t help but think this wouldn’t a one time occasion with her, one minute you’d agree on one thing and the next she’d be off running to who knows where.
Maybe you we’re reading to much into it, you might go to this Gala and realise it wasn’t meant to be and go you’re separate ways. When you look back at Stephanie you knew that wasn’t the case. Looking into her blue eyes all the doubts vanish from your mind. Her eyes spoke to you in a language you’ve never herd before, they told you she wasn’t anyone you’ve ever met before someone who will make you feel like you were only person in world. Stephanie was the one. The thought was crazy and too soon to know but you felt it like a electricities coursing through you and somehow you knew Stephanie felt it too.
Hope you like the story if you want a part 2 please interact! 💜and thank you so much reading this regardless means the world to me that someone would take the time out of their day to read something I wrote it’s surreal 😊
Tagged by @queenlua for “ten songs you’re vibing to right now!”
In all candor, currently I am undergoing various Ordeals such that I have no capacity for novelty and I am mostly vibing to Jimmy Eat World like it’s 2005. So I don’t have tons of recent things, ahahaha.
BUT IF I BEND THE RULES A LITTLE... Since Lua also mentioned needing DRIVING-AROUND MUSIC, I am dividing this list into two segments. Driving-Around Music, and General Purpose Things.
Tagging anyone who reads this and would like to link to a sweet jam or ten. Yes, you.
DRIVING-MUSIC RECS
1. One of my most-played Car Albums of all time is a CD onto which I burned Twin Atlantic's 2012 album "Free" and a contemporaneous live EP of theirs. I love this album so much I can't be rational about it. Every friggin track is a swing for the emotional fences. Listen to Apocalyptic Renegade while driving down the highway and conceive a big stupid shonen-hero belief in your ability to reach escape velocity
(The following album of theirs, "GLA," also has some bangers. But their guitar guy left after that one, so there's a big stylistic shift and 2020's "Power" is, alas, Not A Driving Album so much. More of an indoors album)
2. I think sometimes a good Driving-Around Vibe is a sort of jangly and menacing swagger. If you agree, The Builders And The Butchers have got you. Black Elevator a favorite.
3. For chill nighttime or early morning driving, lately I like Uyama Hiroto's "Freeform Jazz." Yin & Yang is a good 'un - but there is also some higher-energy and weirder stuff on there! Jazz is nice.
4. My dad had a copy of Cake's "Comfort Eagle" in his station wagon back in the day, and now I too have a station wagon and a copy of "Comfort Eagle." It's a fixture. I don't know what to listen to? I put on Cake. It is indelibly stamped in my memory as Good Bands To Listen To In A Subaru. Every time I'm stuck behind a long line of cars, I think of Long Line of Cars
5. Every Sleigh Bells album is a good driving-around album. For whole albums, I'd probably go "Jessica Rabbit." But my perennial favorite single TRACK, for Feeling Like An Absolute Villain, is Demons, off of “Reign of Terror”. Sometimes one wants to Embrace Villainy. ...While driving a station wagon. Hey it can probably fit more of your bound & gagged enemies in it than a sedan.
RECENT TUNES
1. Since We <3 Katamari Reroll came out two weeks ago, all other video games have ceased to exist for me. The soundtrack is not as good or as insane as that of the original Katamari Damacy, but Everlasting Love is just... such good vibes.
2. I can't point to a specific track from MASTER BOOT RECORD that is a favorite, but I had a couple of their albums on as background music while I crunched through really annoying work stuff earlier this year - it is CHIPTUNE METAL and it is VERY GOOD. Here is one such album
3. WHIRLWIND by FLOOR BABA feels like boss music from a Kirby game that doesn't exist. (Hi Carrie thank you for sending me down this rabbit hole)
4. Jonny Atma's metal cover of Buoy Base Galaxy is really really nice. Super Mario Galaxy is one of those games that makes me think video games are good, actually
5. Randomly stumbled on this nice RAC remix of one of my favorite songs, Next Year by Two Door Cinema Club
hi hello! im slowly trying to get into bernice summerfield/gallifrey big finish, do you have any suggestions on where to start, or fun facts you like, or anything (perhaps related to character relations etc)? all of this is very overwhelming and i have so many questions and dont really know where to begin, and you seem very knowledgeable irt all this stuff :']. ive been scouring the fandom wikia + trying to find all free content, and im still very lost.
(also, so good to see another chinese dw fan out in the wild!!! i love your art also!!!!!!! really love the most recent brax piece :])
Hi hi!! U are right I AM kinda knowledgeable about this stuff!! I like the bennys more than Gallifrey because it has books and anthologies that expand the characters so much more than an audio only series which Gallifrey is; but the problem it’s a lot to follow and u have to switch between the books and audios to get the full picture of the story. the bennys is more.. interpersonal in my opinion because while Benny do go around adventuring in space she always returns to the same weird messy found family she finds herself in and i love seeing these guys (Benny, brax, Jason, bev, adrian and other supporting characters) navigate their relationship while the universe throws every kind of shit at them. But please be warned this series can get rly dark at times!! Holleh @setaregan ’s this post helped me a lot getting into the series as a brax fan (they are responsible for getting me into brax in the first place around 5 years ago through this piece of meta, and u can check out my tag #holleh meta for more of their analysis on stuff)
Holleh is also on ao3 as unincased and their fics are SO good..!! I drew the fave comic that I’ve drawn for one of their fics
This is my onedrive folder of Benny stories it’s best to start in collection era!! (big finish bennys single release cds and anthologies)
Big finish trigger warning list (u can find the Benny series there)
If u want to hear a more tight knit series about tense political machinations u should listen to Gallifrey!! It’s also got rly good character writing but it’s less messy and human like the bennys (because it’s timelord politics they got every bit of the pretentiousness lmao) Gallifrey also has classic who companions romana and leela as protagonists, and feature a younger brax before the Benny series (so you can see him being less mentally ill but tbh he is less interesting in Gallifrey too.. he needs some of that edge)
I don’t have a folder for Gallifrey.. sorry..
Thank u so much for liking my art!!! Brax is my favorite character across all media and I’ve been drawing him for like 5 years.. he means a lot to me!! Also hi a fellow Chinese person!! 假如你以后还想跟我聊的话说中文也可以!!很期待用中文和同好聊天>.< !!
