i've been too busy to post about it lately but the current situation surrounding disability rights in the uk is horrifying in a way that most people have zero awareness of. i would appreciate it if more people could spread awareness of this, because the situation is dire to the point that the united nations have officially recognised it as a human rights violation, and there is still little to no discussion about this present online that i'm aware of.
on march 22 this year, the united nations published a follow-up report - found here - on its 2016 inquiry into the human rights of disabled people in the uk. the original inquiry found "grave and systemic violations" of the human rights of disabled people, and the follow-up concludes that no significant progress has been made concerning the situation. the report details "deep poverty" becoming increasingly common for disabled people; media rhetoric "aimed at raising hostility against welfare claimants, including disabled people"; increasing rates of institutionalisation of disabled people; concern about ai tools being used to automate fraud detection in social security with little oversight; and reports of "benefit deaths": the phenomenon of disabled people resorting to suicide after having their social security removed by the state, which has evidently become so common that they have a name for it.
on april 19, just 28 days after the un's official condemnation, the uk government published a new press release announcing a "moral mission" to "reform" our disability welfare system - meaning plans to even further reduce or entirely remove what little finanical support is available to disabled people, in addition to removing the ability of gps to issue sick notes and the introduction of a "fraud bill" which would enable warrants for seizes, searches and arrests in addition to increased digital surveillance of any welfare claimant suspected of fraud. again, this comes less than a month after the un announced that the uk has taken no action to address human rights abuses of disabled people - and the only action they're taking on this is to actively make the situation worse. i don't know how to end this post other than that it's legitimately terrifying to be a disabled person here at present, and this is made even worse by how little media attention the situation is getting - if you're able to speak out about this, please do. the human rights of disabled people are being violated and our government needs to be held accountable.

Eula with a reader that’s full of kindness
characters: Eula x gn!reader
warnings: none
Anyway, hope you enjoy!
Eula
There weren’t all too many people in Mondstadt that were ready to lend someone like Eula not only an ear, but even went so far as to offer her kindness and friendship from the beginning. And yet you did.
Eula wasn’t proud of saying this, but she couldn’t help but be very suspicious at first, trying to keep you an extra arms length away from her, trying to figure out your motive for trying to cozy up to her the way you did, only to find… nothing. Once she noticed that there was no secret scheme of yours however, she started to also notice how your kindness wasn’t just limited to her. And before she knew it, she started to appreciate it more than she probably had any legitimate reason to.
It was cold, snow was falling from the skies and covering every inch of surface as far as the eye could see. It didn’t take any kind of magical heat vision to see her own breaths every few seconds. And still, you were nowhere to be found. Did you stand her up? No, that was impossible, not even someone as cynical as her could believe you breaking your promise. Probably got yourself into some sort of weird situation again…
Just as she finished her thought however, you appeared in her vision, hurrying over towards her with your hands pressed between your armpits.
“I hope you didn’t have to wait long, Eula. I… met an old acquaintance”, you lied as obviously as you shivered, an uneasy smile on your lips that made her want to groan. As the weather got colder, you managed to bump into old acquaintances more and more frequently, only for your gloves, scarves and other winter wear to coincidentally go missing.
It didn’t take a master detective to figure out what was going on, and frankly, Eula felt a bit insulted you thought you’d fool her for even a second.
“Which made you so busy that you forgot to bring along gloves, I see”, she stated, her sarcasm not exactly subtle and yet all you did was awkwardly smile at her. Dear Gods, what was she going to do with you?
“Just because you grew up in a wealthy household doesn’t mean you can just gift your stuff to whoever you see. Or did you forget your family is far from affluent now?”, Eula gave you a brief lecture, before letting out a sigh and pulling off her right glove, holding it out to you.
"Put this on.”
Just as you were about to protest about how her own hand was going to get cold however, she shut you up by grabbing yours, keeping both of them warm.
“Let’s go, we don’t have all day.”

I reblogged about this on another person's post, but it's too important to me to not have my own post about it.
I'm hearing that some people might be coming for Crystal Palace of Dead Boy Detectives for "getting in the way" of Charles x Edwin, i.e. Payneland.
Let's be clear. I adore angsty friends to lovers as much the next hopelessly romantic queer (sort of) guy. But what we're not going to do is become yet another fandom that denigrates a female character because we see her as an obstacle to a mlm ship. It honestly kind of triggers me, and it can never not feel at least a little biphobic to me. I am sure that is not the intention of the vast majority of people with this take, but that's just what my past experience in the numerous fandoms that have done this makes me jump to first.
I want us to think about this. If Charles is currently or eventually in love with Edwin back, he will be confired bisexual, or some other non-monosexual identity, or just fucking queer and vibing. And that means his attraction and feelings for Crystal, and their ship, should be respected as a part of his story and the story of the show. Let a girl live. Don't erase Charles's attraction to women, and leave space for non-monosexual identities. Let's all be mature queers about this, and breaking the fucking cycle.
We're not about to tear a bestie down just so our male leads can kiss. We're better than that. I hope we can be better than that.

a difference between the experience of reading the natsuyuu manga and watching the anime which is only interesting to me is that there's no distinction between special chapters and regular ones in the anime. the reason i find that interesting is that the specials are, so far in my reread, the only chapters that spend any time completely outside of natsume's POV. when we see other characters' perspectives in regular chapters, it's typically part of an extended monologue or a memory being transmitted to natsume, so we're still not really leaving his perspective. the only times we leave his POV are when he's physically not present in a scene, and in those instances we usually don't get any narration or interior monologue from the other characters.
tanuma in "a suspicious visitor" is the only exception i can think of off the top of my head, though i'm sure there are others i'll get to and just don't remember at the moment. the scene between matoba and ban at the end of the homura arc, for example, is outside of natsume's POV by necessity but is pure dialogue with no interior narration because these are not characters to whom we have that kind of access! (for more on matoba's elusive subjectivity see sp15, says tumblr user worldunbent.)
the special chapters jump all over the place; so far i've gotten to chapters from the perspectives of little fox, an unnamed youkai, nyanko, tanuma, and hinoe (although hinoe's chapter is framed as a story she's telling natsume, so it could have fit in a regular chapter). they have a separate numbering system from the regular chapters, are much shorter, and almost always come at the end of volumes*. in the anime, however, there's absolutely nothing to distinguish the episodes adapting the specials from the ones adapting regular chapters other than the POV shifts, which gives anime-only viewers a very different impression of how the series approaches character interiority. i don't think there's anything wrong with this as an adaptation move and it's pretty much necessary, but it's just notable because in a series that's all about how people see the world differently, the choice to make such a distinction between chapters in the protagonist's POV and chapters from everyone else's POV is a significant one.
the reason i'm paying so much attention to POVs in this reread in the first place is because i've been listening to the podcast media club plus and jack, who is pretty new to anime, keeps pointing out the constant perspective shifts in hunter x hunter and the other hosts are like, "yeah, that's normal." this post from another listener expands on how and why it works as a genre norm in shonen battle anime/manga specifically. so now i'm just cursed to be hyperaware of POV shifts in anime/manga, and given that the three series i'm reading/watching at the moment are hxh, dungeon meshi, and natsuyuu, natsuyuu really stands out in how rarely it leaves natsume's head in the regular chapters. i guess i need to go read some more shoujo for a larger sample size lol
*i have a chapter spreadsheet 🤓 and the exceptions to this are sp18, which is just stuck in the middle of v22, sp20, which is the second-to-last chapter of v24, and sp21, which is the first chapter of v25. i understand the placement of sp20, which is "intermission detectives" and makes sense to have as an break between regular chapters, but i'll have to figure out what sp18&21 are doing when i get to them.

I don’t have like a ton to say about this but I have mixed feelings- also spoilers ✨
I like Crystal I really do but at times her dialogue bothered me and some of her behavior was kind of obnoxious to me- like at times when she started aggressively inserting herself into situations and just kind of made it about her? Like in episode seven (though this happened many other times too) where she was having a total fit about not going to hell when it’s clearly for her own good and not about her no matter how much she cares? and I totally understand that this is her being written as an immature teenager who hasn’t been dead or a teen for 30-100 years but as a teenager this sort of selfish immature writing kind of gives me icky feelings because I know so many people who are mostly emotionally intelligent not just raging all the time.- and I mean that for a lot of teenagers and teen girls in writing, to make them tough and likable they are made volitile and annoying which to me is not likable (my opinion, I just don’t like the trope that’s not what I’m talking about right now anyway-) I do think she had good development and I liked her a lot better by the end, some people on other forums were saying that her actress was weaker than the rest of the cast and I don’t really know about that? I think maybe she was artificial at times but I’m blaming that on the writing.
I also didn’t like her dialogue about her “crazy demon ex” either, it felt very forced? -Not her emotions about the whole mind cage thing I get that but just all of the “UGH WHY ARE THEY SO FUCKING NOSY IM JUST TRYING TO GET OVER MY STUPID STUPID CRAZY ABUSIVE STALKER DEMON EX BOYFRIEND UGHHH ILL DOUBLE KILL THOSE BOYS IF ITS TGE LAST THING I DO” that felt out of place to me- Lastly I get that this is also an aspect of her teenager-ness but I didn’t like the amount she cursed? I have no qualms with cursing but it felt to me like when little kids and middle schoolers start cursing where they just explosively yell fuck when like literally nothing warranting that kind of expletive has happened? She curses too often it makes her sound really stupid? Like the ep 7 “take me to hell I won’t die” thing, she was screaming at Charles who was being pretty reasonable like “fuck that I’m going he’s my fucking friend too fine then fuck it- fuck you ill find another way to get to hell” like yes she was emotional but that isn’t what teenagers sound like guys?
idk- I’d love to hear what other people think and to be clear I do like her I just focused on the negative- I guess it’s a human thing. She had lots of strong points just I ending up not liking how much she was on screen, this isn’t really about you? It’s about the dead boy detective? Give me more ghosts or Edwin or Charles or Jenny or Niko or Mr walrus please? They were fun I like them? I just felt like there were times where she was over shadowing Edwin and Charles and they are what’s actually important to the show? I think I’d like her more in smaller doses- I felt like I spent too much time having to stop and be like “girl step back this is not about you, you are not the star right now”
and to the argument of her actress being inexperienced or over acting or just not great- I have no specific feelings on this but like the other main cast had for the most part very little screen acting experience and were Fantastic so i don’t know what to feel in that area?
so yes, i think crystal is an interesting character and i think she grew on me and developed in the season but i also definitely think that she’s annoying and I’m conflicted because i don’t want to not like her-..
what are your thoughts? Id love to hear different perspectives but please be nice to me because I’ll probably delete this and cry (unless that was your goal, then carry on)
that was all like super ramble-y sorry- but I hope I communicated semi accurately! Thank you

OC Deep Dive Questionnaire Tag
Thanks for the tag @natolesims! 💗
I chose Deidra, a sim I had created almost 2 years ago. I had created a save just for her, and gave her extended family members. She eventually fell in love with & married a townie, and when the Growing Together ep came out, she became my 1st sim to have an infant. They eventually had 4 kids!
1. What uncommon/common fear do they have?
Being alone. It led to arguments with her sister, Kendra, who felt Deidra rushed into a relationship with Stan because she wanted to get married & have a baby before it was too late.
2. Do they have any pet peeves?
Laziness. Deidra gets frustrated easily, & hates when others don't help.
3. What are 3 items you can find in their bedroom?
Baby toys (their youngest sleeps in their room), perfume & lotions, hair wraps.
4. What do they notice first in a person?
Probably how they react to her. She can be self-conscious, and seems to be on high alert & observes how people perceive her.
5. On a scale of 1 to 10, how high is their pain tolerance?
Maybe a 2. It's low. She's never had a major physical injury, and prefers to not deal with any emotional or mental ones.
6. Do they go into fight or flight mode when under pressure?
Absolutely flight mode. After constantly bickering with her sister, because Kendra didn't accept her now-husband, Deidra stopped speaking to her.
7. Do they come from a big family/are they a family person?
Deidra comes from an average sized family. She has 1 younger sister (Kendra), and 1 younger brother (Shawn), and even has the family oriented trait.
8. What animal represents them best?
Maybe a lioness. Takes care of all of the babies, hunts/cooks, and is the one REALLY in charge.
9. What is a smell that they dislike?
Trash/dirty dish water. It means someone didn't complete their chores.
10. Have they broken any bones?
No.
11. How would a stranger likely describe them?
Quiet, but nice. Seems well organized and put together.
12. Are they a night owl or a morning bird?
Night owl. Her mornings are chaos.
13. What is a flavor they hate and a flavor they love?
Deidra loves vanilla & cinnamon, and just the smell of pickles makes her gag.
14. Do they have any hobbies?
Reading and art/painting/sketching.
15. Boom, surprise birthday party! How do they react to surprises?
Pleasantly surprised, but anxious.
16. Do they like to wear jewelry?
Not really. Maybe for special occasions.
17. Do they have neat or messy handwriting?
Very neat!
18. What are two emotions they feel the most?
The last time I played her, they were Flirty & probably some form of Tense.
19. Do they have a favorite fabric?
Probably cotton. Simple.
20. What kind of accent do they have?
English, United States. Just realized most of my sims don't have regional American accents, and maybe it's because most people tell me that they can't detect a regional accent in me.
