Here I'm beating the corpse of a horse, but I do find ODD how no one in MHA is even interested in understanding their own quirk bar the basic of basic.

Granted some powers are so simplist that you dont need to waste too much time. Like, Mirko's power doesnt need to be heavily analyzed in the story. She has super strenght and it is ok.

But others? No. I want some explanation, especially and Shig's case. Decay is so powerful (and I do have a thought about afo sabotaging shig in a way. "If he cant know how to use his quirk, better for me" but is a sentiment Hori never dwell well enough bc you know, my abuser academy) but no one has any plan or idea of this quirk.

We have tecnhology to make a clothe to Mirio(not for Toohru of course) why not developed smth it cant be decayed?

And now it makes me back to Izu. Our poor mc. He has a powerful quirk and 0 thought about this. Like he was quirkless and now has the power of a god(ignoring the bone crushing thing) and we get 0 introspection. And Izu never analysed his quirk.

I mean, maybe he did as he handles well...but to me it was more of a gamble than anything. No one helped him, Izu doesnt comments about his own quirk ...

And the users doesnt even offer some help...(not bashing them, maybe the second but bc he is BK 3.0)

Hori loves to kill any potential in his story. Its quiete fascinating, its like seeing a captain purposely sinking his own ship for no reason.

I think I've mentioned before how odd I find this that not more people are like early story Izuku - eagerly analysing their own and others abilities to explore what they can secretly do.

Even powers that seem simple for example Miriko's rabbit that you mentioned - I've looked this up recently for a fic I'm planning on writing and she doesn't just have super strength* and speed* she has:

Enhanced flexibility*

Enhanced hearing

High pain tolerance*

Animalistically high intuition*

All of these things would be awesome to explore more. Particularly as with her broad array of abilities (the ones I've placed a * by actually are similar to some of the abilities given to Izuku by OFA or high pain tolerance which he had built up through excessive exposure to an explosively abusive BKG growing up) she could have been an excellent mentor to Izuku. She also could have helped Izuku gain confidence by Hori wastes all this potential by turning her into... A stick for his gore porn fetish it seems...

As for the technology to do with quirks and how unequal it seems that could have also been explored narratively. With Shig it's easy to see that as AFO not wanting him to know too much about what he can do and keep him under control.

But why can't Momo and Hagakure have a costume that works with them if Mirio can? It would be interesting if that was sexism, HPSC corruption, the over sexualisation and celebrity nature of heroes but Hori... gave us all this set up then nothing.

To conclude, Izuku over time has been whittled away at - things like his analysis - which I actually enjoyed, vanished. Part of me thinks this is due to Hori's laziness and lack of being bothered to think through every quirk of the people he puts later into the story like Nejire (what happens if she overuses her quirk? Can she die from it?)

But Izuku's lack of analysis into OFA, is that Hori literally can't be bothered so is just shoving out content at this point, seems in universe like he doesn't feel like he deserves to, this doesn't feel like his quirk, it feels like All Mights and Izuku could feel unworthy of analysing it.

haha no I'm not done thinking about aroace doctor and how that rotates in my head at all times, but today thinking about how common point of view would have us believe that romance and sex in Doctor Who that in some way pertains to the doctor (that is, characters desire the doctor in some way, and/or desire a specific relationship structure -- regardless of how one reads the doctor interacting with that) is less interesting than these things simply not existing in the doctor's life, because of:

the doctor is alien (alien means aroace... except for of course all the times on the show it doesn't, but specifically for the doctor it's a Clue of alieness, according to this wisdom)

the doctor has other shit going on that is "more" interesting than concerns about romance and/or sex + the doctor's emotions around these other things are also "deeper" than matters of romance and/or sex

we just don't want it ok? because it was never there before (much)

and an aroace conscious read would go: actually the romance and the sex are quite important, not only in terms of how characters feel who are allosexual and alloromantic, but also in terms of characters who aren't and putting in this stuff in nu!who doesn't make the doctor seem less aroace than before, but arguably moreso, because before it was not a choice based in a realistic exploration of character, but rather a shorthand of "alien/other," which isn't really what aroace means, whereas now these facets are a vital part of one of the reasons why the doctor struggles to make connections, beyond the grandiose scifi semi-immortality going on -- with the caveat that the writing of aroaceness for the most part still isn't grounded in a deep knowledge of aroace community or identity, but rather coming out of pushing the boundaries of character-writing, which is a fascinating by-product in and of itself, because even when the character isn't consciously aroace and even when the show is trying to be a bit "sexier" by its own admission, there's still a ton of aroace text that writers can't help including, often despite their own stated opinions:

sure the doctor gets kissed, but there's enough intentional grey space that one can (and is invited to) read it as not totally wanted, or merely tolerated

sure the doctor can have intense relationships with others, but never commits to the words "I love you," enough so that if one wants to, one can read all kinds of things into that creative choice (and also the idea that there are many of those relationships, that specifically, deliberately take many different forms, is interesting as well)

sure the doctor can-ish flirt, mostly in one iteration (eleven), but when actually pushed into an actual possibly sexual scenario is viscerally uncomfortable

sure there's more joking about sex, but although other characters definitely do get frisky (jack, amy and rory, river song especially) the doctor... doesn't really, and the doctor tends to rebuff those advances

I just think it's very neat once the doctor is actually shown to be aware of these things that are incredibly important structures in society then their actions have more character depth to them, and that's where my interest in aroace doctor comes from -- not aroaceness as "eh, I guess we always did it this way and it does make this alien character seem Weirder" but aroaceness as actual character, and once people can get onboard with those ideas then a lot of the doctor's actions in nu!who can potentially take on all kinds of different fun shapes (many of them angsty)

The music? While it may not have been what you or I wanted we still got something while we could have had nothing.

If you are wondering whether you to should let it live rent free in your head:

*dry, dark humor

*set on a spaceship that's actually taking the laws of physics seriously, but also without lengthy exposition dumps

* there are A Lot of non-binary characters (both a socially recognized third gender that seem to use they/them pronouns and miscellaneous other pronoun users) and a society that seems to not give a rat's ass about sexual orientation. Variety of family structures depending on culture. Not clear so far whether anyone is binary trans, but it is clear that binary trans is a pretty normal thing to be. Relatively optimistic future overall, but also clearly still has Problems. More Deep Space Nine than TOS, in Star Trek terms. Although the world of TOS did have its own major problems, so maybe that's not entirely fair to TOS.

*queers the sci fi/horror binary

(Ok that's not a binary, there's more than two genres, but y'know.)

*mystery piled on mystery, also lots of things are going horribly wrong. Both technical things and people-related things

*characters are ...quirky? Easily distinguished from each other? Something.

*has heart. Found family/ragtag band of misfits thing going on. The characters I just want to give them all a big hug.

*edge of your seat suspense. Top tier pacing. Not hard to get into and not hard to stay in.

*I don't want to give too much away but uh, the politics hot damn. I don't mean in a like interrupt the story to go off on a rant way, I mean fully integrated into the story and not in any way detracting from it.

* fascinating worldbuilding offered one offhand comment at a time.

*space is terrifying.

On the (potential?) down side this is more horror than I generally like and the absolute maximum of gore I can tolerate, and possibly more than some other people's gore tolerance.

It's not light fluffy escapism. And, uh, I don't know if some characters are going to get a happy ending, but clearly at least a whole lot of unnamed or barely-named characters aren't.

The story's not done but it looks relatively close to being done. Also I'm only about half way through the existing content. So I may have a somewhat different opinion on this in two days. Who knows.

Read it read it read it I need people to obsess about this story with PLEASE.

So I got the main guys of the 141st done, but what about other CoD characters? Do they have dragons? Abso-fucking-lutely! And I'm gonna continue this little series with a recently found favorite and his dragon:

König and Amsel

König

1. König is of course a title. For the sake of this AU his name is Kaleb (I refuse to call him Kilgore because that sounds WAY too extra/on the nose).

2. He is, of course, king of his own kingdom, called Edren, which borders Athana to the north.

3. He became king at fifteen, after his father was killed by an assassin from another kingdom. At the time he was considered too young to rule, but he was a fast learner and took to heart both the words of his advisors and the needs of his people.

4. Kaleb is betrothed to Princess Lyra of Athana, and has been since they were both children. There's a five year age gap between the two, and they alternated visiting each other's kingdoms during the summer months, so as to not interrupt either of their studies, until they were both adults.

5. He does deeply love Lyra, but admits he's jealous of her close connection with the Ghost of Dragon's Keep...

6. Claimed Amsel at the age of seventeen, which actually angered a lot of the common people in Athana, as they saw Amsel "The Black Bird" as their primary protector.

7. Has impeccable aim with a crossbow, on both dragon and horseback.

8. Has been teaching Lyra his language. He's basically like her own version of duolingo.

9. While a good ruler, Kaleb is a jealous man. He sees Simon as competition for his betrothed, and does what he can to keep Lyra from him while he's in Athana.

10. Let's just say hell has no fury like a giant scorned. A giant who also happens to have the second largest dragon in existence at his disposal...

Amsel

1. Known as the Black Bird to the commoners of Athana, Amsel is the second largest dragon in the known world. Only his mother Nova is bigger than him.

2. Is the brother of Lyra's dragon, Talaera. The two were nest mates and are still close. Their riders are betrothed but that doesn't mean they'll mate. Dragons are cool, but incest isn't, even among them.

3. His scales are a deep purple that they look almost black, hence the name Black Bird. His flames are deep violet with veins of black and red.

4. He can eat cattle and other livestock whole, and often does. This actually angers a lot of the farmers in Edren, who've been calling for Amsel to be locked up.

5. Is protective of his sister and family, as well as his Rider. Amsel has a relatively nasty temper towards anyone who dares to think of harming them.

6. Amsel tolerates humans. He doesn't necessarily like them, but he tries not to harm them either. They're like insects to him: sometimes fascinating, other times a pest.

7. Refuses to wear a saddle as he finds them binding. Also has a deep hatred of chains. Do not bring a chain anywhere near Amsel, as he will melt it.

8. Like his Rider sees Simon, Amsel sees Brightfire as a threat rather than competition. He believes Talaera deserves better, but Tala is stubborn in that regard.

9. He has defective muscles in his throat, so rather than roaring he screeches. His voice is a little higher pitched than one would expect (kinda like his Rider...).

10. Has no desire to be used as a weapon to hurt people, fearing he'll become as notorious as his father, Daharak the Hellborn, who is now seen as a force of evil.

And that's it for these two! I really hope you guys liked it! I have a few more characters for this AU already made (Laswell, Graves, and, because I actually do love her, Farrah). I don't know if I'll do anyone else from the game after that. If the interest is there I might take suggestions and include others in this AU. I'd like to incorporate Alejandro and Rudolfo, possibly even Valeria and even Makarov into this at some point. Let me know what you guys think!

The boomer understanding of transgender people is really interesting because sometimes, it can be weirdly progressive and other times not so much.

One time I was talking about Chaz Bono. I can't really remember the context. My mom asked me why I referred to Chaz Bono as a transgender man when Chaz Bono is just a man.

I thought this was maybe kind of cool. Disclaimer, I'm cis so what do I know. I know many transgender people are loud and proud about being trans, but I also think it's normal whether you're trans or cis, to just want to be seen as who you are and get through your day without being hassled.

I picked her brain a little and she was like " well, Chaz Bono used to be a woman, but Chaz Bono is a man now. He had a sex change."

Anyway, it seems like my mom, who works in the medical field, honest to god, believes there is one single surgery that can just flip all your characteristics from one sex to the other. This is obviously wrong, but I think a lot of people her age believe this and it tends to be more liberal people her age and not the other way around.

You could argue this places a lot of emphasis on passing and I could agree with that, but in the case of my mom, I truly think any trans person, passing or not, regardless of how much they've medically transitioned, could just tell her they've had a sex change and she'd be like cool, you are what you say you are. She ,at worst, would probably secretly think "maybe, they have a shitty doctor".

Now, I'm not saying there are no issues with her way of thinking and that it doesn't come from a place of ignorance, but it is interesting to me how there are some narrow circumstances where it comes across as more accepting than millenials can often be. My generation, myself unfortunately included, is often guilty of using "trans" as a qualifier, as way of saying "well, they're a woman but...", fill in any gender identity, etc.

Another time, the topic of transgender athletes in sports came up, something we probably never would have talked about if the right hadn't made the topic newsworthy. My mom, who is an avid tennis player, immediately brought up Renée Richards and said "Well, Renée Richards just did okay back in the 70's. She didn't dominate. It probably depends on the circumstances." I thought this was a pretty nuanced take on a pretty nuanced issue that she came to organically.

Of course, the main issue is that my mom has absolutely zero understanding of being non-binary or even a binary trans person is intentionally gnc in their presentation. I've tried to explain it to her many times in simple terms and like any movie with a non-linear timeline, she just can't wrap her head around it. That said, I think my mom tries to be accepting generally. I know one of my mom's closest friends has a non-binary kid that came to our Thanksgiving once and my mom was earnestly trying to use they/them pronouns and even corrected some of the other guests.

I know this whole post might come across as me trying to excuse my mom's transphobia because I, like anyone else, just want to believe that my parent is good person. Honestly, maybe it is. Maybe, I just lack the self awareness. But I'm also just personally fascinated by it. And it's also true that LGBTQ boomers, the people my mom learned from, tend to have a different understanding of these issues and different terminology than younger LGBTQ people. You could completely chalk that up to internalized bias, but it's a lot more complicated than that. We're talking about social constructs here.

My personal opinion is ( and don't get me wrong, I can totally see why someone from a marginalized group would validly disagree with the following sentiment) that for the most part, with some obvious exceptions, how someone arrives a place of tolerance does not matter, as long as they get there. The ends usually justify the means. And I think the job of an ally, something I try to be, is to foster understanding where you can. It's mentally exhausting for someone from a marginalized group to constantly have to justify their existence in the world. We need radical empathy. Sometimes, I am the ally I need to be or close to it and sometimes, I'm more like my mom, well-meaning but ignorant.

Hi, how are you? I'm so happy you are still active! It's sort of incredible to me that you still keep a lot of love for these characters and their relationships. Not that they don't deserve that or that they would have gotten less interesting with time, it's just that I tend to jump from interest to interest quickly. Anyway, what I wanted to say is that your metas were and are always so good, and they are 100% responsible for me enjoying Kurt, Blaine and Klaine better! Honestly, I wasn't a big fan of them in the earlier seasons, but after rewatching seasons 4-6 in the pandemic and reading your metas, I was suddenly very invested. I love them now! My favorite arc of them is them both in NYC in season 5. Maybe because they were older and messy in a way that was more relatable to me specifically, and maybe because I really like how they were having problems of a "real adult relationship". You have probably heard it a lot before but thank you so much for all your work and your dedication all these years. Because I have came across your posts after a while, I must admit I am sort of curious about whether there's anything that you have changed your mind about in the last couple of years. Who are the characters/relationship, apart from them and theirs, that you're still interested in, if there's any? Is there anything that you have completely changed your mind about, that you can think of? And what was the last song from Glee that you have listened to?

First of all -- thank you for such a kind note, it made my day to see this in my in box. It's very sweet to know that people do actually enjoy being around here. Because I never know if I've gone into being too annoying or not. (And I'm sure lots of people felt that way a long time ago.)

As for still being around -- well, I have a tendency to collect things as I go. I'm one of those people who never really truly leaves, even if other interests arise. I still very much love The Office, which came before. And still love X-Men even though I was a kid when that obsession started. For better or for worse, I always like what I like.

I'm so glad to hear that I've helped you come around to Klaine! Sometimes positivity can do that! There is so much to pick a part with their relationship -- one of the most enjoyable parts of being in fandom is getting to explore that and pick it a part and examine it!

Have my thoughts on Klaine changed at all in recent years? Not really, no. I mean, compared to at the time, I adore Season 6 a lot, and enjoy Season 4 a lot more. I think I've made my peace with a lot of the bad along with the good of the show. It's almost been ten years since it's not been on the air -- and I can't change anything. So, why be angry about it, you know?

Who are the characters/relationship, apart from them and theirs, that you're still interested in, if there's any? Is there anything that you have completely changed your mind about, that you can think of?

This probably deserves it's own post because I have a lot of feelings for so much more of the show than just Klaine.

I probably like Rachel more than a lot of other people. Really, when she's not given everything (like at the end of season 3) I think she's an interesting character. I love Mercedes and find it tragic that the show never knew what to do with her. I do like Santana -- I'm sorry, Brittana really doesn't do anything for me, but she's a fascinating character to look at.

I do love Sam, and always find him endearing. Jesse St James has completely grown on me over the years.

I also have more of an appreciation for Jane Lynch and Jessilyn Gilsig than I used to.

I'm not sure if there's anything I've completely changed my mind about? I'm way, way, way more tolerant of Karofsky than I used to be -- but I think because I've had a lot a lot a lot of time to mull it all over.

Probably Love is a Battlefield - because I wanted to see the choreography in comparison to BICO, lol.

🔥 has been encouraging us through messages to post as ourselves on here.

So hello! I'm.. not meant to say my name? Eh, name's Link, but I go by Wild too. Introject from, Surprise-surprise, the Legend of Zelda, specifically breath of the wild/tears of the kingdom, however I have been around in our system since...well, it was Twilight Princess and Link's Crossbow training on the Wii and the body was much shorter!!

Please bear in mind I have had time to come to terms with being an introject and have had a significant amount of time to research DID to understand it better (isn't the human brain fascinating?), and to research and learn what is considered fact/fiction to this world.

Introject thoughts and stupid things I've done

- I miss home. Always. Constantly. I have a constant longing for a home that... supposedly doesn't even exist. And no one to talk about it with.

- doubting my legitimacy because home feels SO real, but it not being real here.

- finding my source is not only a video game but a whole bunch of stories written by random strangers who..know too much about me- I picked up an eating disorder and sexual trauma from a fanfiction someone in our system read! (Apparently the system already has them, but still..)

- I shut down incredibly hard when I was told I'm not at home originally..

- having to mask who I am, more than just being a system. I've had to change my phrasing of "that reminds me of that time at home" to, give or take "that reminds me of a game". It's the worst stab to the heart I've ever experienced.

- Body tolerance for exercise: if you know anything of Zelda, I spent a LOT of time running around Hyrule, and my fitness levels were.. well above what our body is. I get winded and wheezy so fast now! And I hate it! And hylia forbid I try to climb something!

- I feel terrible for every time I made comments on periods being "not that bad". Now I've experienced one first hand, I can understand why Zel got emotional and desperately clingy if she was bleeding (I started calling periods the blood moon and our system has picked up on it!)

- chronic pain is terrible. I always had slightly achy joints, but experiencing chronic pain, even with the number of injuries I had, is still dreadful.

- ........please, I forget I don't have a p3n1s. Standing up to pee is not going to happen, at least not tidily. Same with literal toilets.. I still- don't- like them. 😅

- Not knowing what memories are body memories and pseudo memories built by story origins

- discovering not only do I have memories from home, I have memories of trauma that happened within the body.

- seeing sculptures, posters, art, etc made and owned by people who you don't know is incredibly disconcerting and uncomfortable

- I'm autistic (..🐚 says {he's also autistic, and my doting boyfriend..} I'm 'very autistic, it's painful to watch'). Learning what Autism is has been interesting! And explained so much!

- the body's mother, when she realized who I was, told me not to try jumping off cliffs as "I can't respawn" ????? In some worlds do you mean to tell me you can die more than once??

- i miss my friends and found family

- being both an interject and an age regressor. Normally I'm 18, almost 19 years old, but on occasion slip as young as 3 years, it has been..very strange, and terrifying.

- one of my first thoughts when I turned up here was that I'd have lost the age regression, ED, PTSD, and OCD tendencies, but no, they got worse.

- Non-binary has a name here. It's amazing.

- No one knows who I am here. I adore it.

Hiii! First of all sorry for the delay, real life is a mess right now. ^^' Thank you so much for sending some once again, these always make me happy and excited!

Alright, let's do this!

"Galaxy; what fascinates you?"

The sea and sea life! I've been fascined by the sea for as long as I can remember and one of my dream jobs has always been marine biology. It's an interesting relationship, it fascinates me but I am also afraid of it, I have a deep respect for the sea. Sharks are my personal special interest and I love researching about them!

"Melody; favorite artists?"

Sharon Den Adel (and the rest of the band, of course) has always been my favorite artist, Within Temptation is my favorite band and I truly love and appreciate their work and find them very versatile. I have a huge respect for Sharon.

This one may sound like an obvious choice but Vincent Van Gogh's artwork is also really appealing to me, I mainly love how he used colors. He deserved so much better.

"Diamond; favorite color?"

Black and soft blues have always been my favorite colors, both bring me comfort and blues are very relaxing to look at. I prefer muted and soft colors and can't stand neons unless there is black somewhere, which usually makes the contrast at least a bit acceptable for me.

"Sun; favorite season"

Winter, for sure! I hate the heat with all my heart, anything above 22ºC is already hot for me, I also have trouble regulating my body temperature, especially when anxious and since I am a very anxious person 22ºC feels more like 40ºC for me. ^^' Aesthetically speaking I find Winter much more beautiful as well, I'm very fond of rain.

The only thing that makes me feel bad for chosing Winter is the homeless, I feel like this choice of mine comes from a place of privilege.

"Perfume; favorite scent?"

Very interesting question...I have serious problems with smells, I am very sensible to them, I have no idea if this is some sort of a sensory thing, but most strong smells give me a very strong headache, especially when we are talking about perfume, I don't use any because I can't stand any of them, the headache makes me wanna puke, so yeah, it gets really bad. >.<

I truly hate anything with fruit, coconut scent is probably the worse of them for me, it also makes me feel dirty, I don't know why, it's like I am bathing myself with tea or something like that? With everything said...I guess I don't have a favorite scent? I mean, I'd say that the ones I tolerate better are probably soft plant based scents?

"Parchment; favorite book?"

A Song of Ice and Fire is by far my favorite collection, I don't think I exactly have a favorite from this collection but I think I enjoyed A Storm of Swords and A Clash Of Kings a bit more than the rest.

Feanor

We all know it's impossible to get out of this fandom without having an opinion on Feanor. I've gradually settled into the camp of being a fan of his; I think he's a super interesting character, both from a personal perspective, and a narrative perspective, as his actions continue to ripple out across Arda LONG after Feanor is gone.

He gets half the "fucked over by fans" square because while I don't think he's universally screwed--a lot of fans have some really great and nuanced interpretations of him--there is a significant subset who seemed determined to view him as someone who was always a terrible person and a shitty father whose influence by Melkor basically just freed him up to do things he already wanted to do, and I'm not here for that. I think Tolkien really tries to drive home that Feanor is a good person, if a very flawed person who is not easy to get along with, who was unknowingly influenced by Melkor and thereby driven to things he never would have done otherwise. And the entire story of Feanor and his family, and the rebellion and the Doom of the Noldor is portrayed as a tragedy--there's no tragedy in a dude who was always a dickhead being freed up to be more of a dickhead. But there IS in a guy who was overall good, if possessed of a few character flaws (and aren't we all?) being warped and twisted into someone who bears only vague resemblance to who he was before, and yet it's that shadow image that becomes his legacy.

I always come back to the fact that Feanor's story is a tragedy, and I agree. He had already done so much good for the Noldor--his inventions are still in use in Middle-earth in the Third Age!--and he could have done so much more, but for the intervention of Melkor.

Also while I chose "didn't get enough screentime" that's not a criticism of Feanor's death--that was a striking narrative choice that I definitely wouldn't change, in part because his still being around to lead this shitshow would totally change the dynamic of the Noldor in Middle-earth. I just want to know what his favorite color is and if he's an early riser.

Nerdanel

Minor female character my beloved <3 You know how I feel about Nerdanel. Of all the Tolkien characters I want to know more about, she might take the cake. Anyone who happily marries Feanor and has seven children with him is someone whose psyche profile must be fascinating. Because we know so little about her--although I think we can extrapolate some key things from the text--a lot of my interpretation of her is not based in canon because there's not enough there to build a full character out of, but I still think even with only the canon information she's interesting.

I maintain that Nerdanel was not only tolerant of much of Feanor's shenanigans, she was into it. She looked at those red flags and went "yeah that's hot."

She also, like Anaire, gets massively screwed by the rebellion of the Noldor. My interested in Maglor/Nerdanel reunion fics is honestly more about Nerdanel getting to see one of her babies again than Maglor getting to go home sorry Maglor. I think the events of the rebellion, flight, and exile changed her life forever and I really really want to know what she did in Aman for the several thousand years between Feanor's departure and Galadriel's return--and after! Her family is barred from rebirth until the breaking of the world, and I don't think it's inconceivable that she gets tarred with the same brush as Feanor by the rest of the Noldor. What life did she have in Tirion after that? What purpose, what meaning? You could h/c she eventually fades in grief, but I don't really see that as her style, so I'm very curious about what keeps her going all those years.

Maglor

I'll be real most of my interest in Maglor has been sparked by you XD I was tempted by "deeper than they seem" but actually I think he gets (comparatively to the surface-style narrative of Silm) a fair amount of depth. His argument with Maedhros in favor of abandoning the Silmarils and his care for Elrond and Elros in particular stand out as showing how he (one of the Feanorians to burn the ships at Losgar and partake in all 3 kinslayings) has changed over the course of his time in Middle-earth.

I really enjoy exploring his dynamic with other characters, particularly any of his brothers and especially Maedhros. We get basically nothing about Maglor in terms of personality from the actual narrative, which means virtually any interpretation of him in fandom is pure headcanon, so there are a number of ways I could reasonably see it going, but I think they're all interesting.

You had some very good points about how it's doubtful Maglor was ever trained to direct troops or manage warfare, or even be a warrior himself, and then suddenly he's on the front lines of this war with Melkor and all the Elves under his command are kind of nervously hoping he's a quick learner. The dynamics of someone who was an artist now forced to be a general, who doesn't want to be a solider but proves to be reasonably competent at it, and who has a LOT to lose if he fails, is just such an interesting thing to explore.

In this way I think all the sons of Feanor are fascinating because they were all basically spoiled princelings of the Blessed Realm who recklessly followed their father in rebelling against the Valar and charging off to Middle-earth, only to be immediately faced with the deadly serious consequences of those choices, and then be repeatedly confronted with them in very quick succession (Alqualonde, the exile, the Doom, Losgar, Feanor's death, Maedhros' capture). Basically, shit gets real for them very fast and they have to adapt or die (and get a bunch of other people killed along with them, most likely).

Also Maglor living until the Third Age (although it's not my h/c sorry Lark :c) opens up some fascinating questions of crime, forgiveness, punishment, repentance, etc. and what the responsibility of the Elves of the Third Age is when it comes to the last remaining son of Feanor.

Monday, January 8th, 2024!

11:32am HCI class this morning, really boring still I regret to inform everyone 😂 no tests this semester, just projects. Easy A but a real brain drain. Not letting the brain drain get to me though! Hopped out of that class (9-11am) and now I'm at Panera getting free coffee (it's chilly out!). I'm going to shoe carnival to use a $15 voucher and also other little errands today. I just realized I'm really hungry (I had 2 prebiotic sodas last night and absolutely BLEW UP this morning so I actually don't think there's anything in my stomach tbh haha). I think I should get a snack bc my stomach will pass start hurting soon. Just checking in! New semesters can be overwhelming so I'm gonna keep coming back here.

11:49am have selected bogo bacon mcdoubles for lunch with my coffee :) eating food is good for you! I am very thankful ❤️

2:34pm lol I went down a rabbit hole and I'm about to be off my phone for the rest of the day. But it's worth it bc I looked on Vividseats and found a $20 after tax ticket to see Company at the Straz tmrw. I have heard of this musical before but didn't know what it was or any of the songs. Omg I didn't the last 1.5 hrs listening to the original Broadway cast recording in my car and investigating the plot and I am very excited!! This is EXACTLY what I'm talking about I had no idea that's what I was going to do today and definitely had no idea I was going to see a Broadway show tomorrow night when I freaking woke up this morning, how do I explain to people that this literally is my hobby. Novelty and new experiences is my hobby. Learning about things is my hobby. Listening to new music is my hobby. Reading about how they are being hot and *controversial* about the gender swap in this revival of a 50+ year old play?? I find this fascinating and I am excited AF now about something I couldn't tell you one lick about this morning. This is my favorite thing to do. This is such a perfect example of my idea of a good time.

Do other people never do things like this?? It's spontaneous, but not expensive or dangerous or retarded, it's just spontaneous and interesting to me personally.

4:05pm I actually went to shoe carnival and used the coupon in their email and got a pair of yellow box sandals for $7 even! Just got home, ate a granola bar and am about to take a nap.

11:45pm I want to text him. I'm ALSO FIVE DRINKS IN LMAO. OFC I wish I had a man to fuck rn. I GOT MYSELF DINNER AND DRINKS!!!! NOW it feels like I've been wined and dined and primed to FUCK. But it's literally just me.... I wined and dined myself bc it's the first day of school, things are stressful and they're bound to be more stressful going forward. If you ever want to do a "Top 10 home gardening tomato cultivars" segment, I'm here for it. (My folks mostly plant Early Girls, but they have a ridiculously short growing season up there. I grow Sweet 100s, because they taste good enough and I gave up on growing anything other than cherries due to bastard squirrels who like to take exactly one bite out of larger tomatoes.)

IT IS NOW TIME TO INFO DUMP

CONSIDER YOURSELF WARNED

Ok so the actual thing with tomatoes is there are- checks google- about 10,000 tomato cultivars out there and every single one of them is different, so you should tailor your tomato breeds to what you actually want to do with them. 10K is a lot a breeds to break down, but fortunately, there are ways to Do That:

1. Determinate vs. Indeterminate

Determinate tomatoes grow to a genetically predetermined size and start fruiting. Pros: Tends to have a short time between planting and fruiting, don’t get bigger than a certain size if you only have so much space. Cons: Once they’re done fruiting, that’s it. you really only get the one crop out of them. Also tend to have sad, watered-down flavor.

Indeterminate tomatoes grow as big as the space will let them, and start fruting when they get around to it. Pros: Maximum Plant for minimum investment, which can be like 10x as big as a determinate plant. Will KEEP fruiting until it gets too cold, so if you can get it in a pot you can move inside you could potentially still be harvesting tomatoes after thanksgiving like my MIL was this year. If you live somewhere warm like SoCal or AZ, you could keep it alive all year. Cons: MUCH longer time between planting and fruiting. Indeterminate tomates Get there when they get there. Also may be more prone to disease and pests than the more-modified determinate plants.

There are determinate and indeterminate tomatoes in all 5 of the Greater Tomato Archetypes. Speaking of:

2. The 5 Tomato Archetypes

I’m so good at segues!

So tomatoes come in 5 basic types, each which is generally better for something culinary than the others. You CAN substitute different types of tomato but your food generally doesn’t come out as good.

1. Cherry: Cherry tomatoes produce fruits that are about the size of cherries. Some people put Grape and Saladette tomatoes in here but they are WRONG, both of those belong in the “Round/All-Purpose” group because Cherry tomatoes specifically have thinner skins, more soluable pectin, and more dissolved glutemates, which means they cook VERY differently. Cherry tomatoes also produce a shitload of fruits at a time and might be some of the heaviest producers. Tend to be more heat-tolerant. Good For: Fresh tomato sauces (i.e. takes less than 20 minutes to make), salads, snacking on directly off the vine like you are a small tarsier discovering a hidden bounty of fruit.

Top reccomendations are: -Indigo Cherry or Dwarf Black Krim if you can find it. I always reccomend dark-pigmented tomatoes as I find they have better flavor, pest resistence and UV tolerance. Taste fruity but not over-sweet and Very Tomato-y. -Sweet 100/Super-Sweet 100/Sweet Millions: All varietals of the same mass-producing Cherry Tomato. Makes absolute buckets of Tomatoes, sweeter and more fruity than the Indigo cherry, good disease resistence and long growing season.

2. Paste: Paste tomatoes are thin-skinned, meaty and soft tomatoes that... well, they make good tomato paste, the basis for all long-cooking tomato sauces and recipies. They tend to be kind of Oblong and sometimes grow in fun extras like lil tomato “dicks” or weird cthulian shapes, but this doesn’t effect the flavor or nutrition There’s a shitload of great varietals in this category, I’ve yet to hear of a Bad Paste Tomato, just Less Excellent ones. Good For: Long-cooking Tomato-based dishes like: Bolognese, chili, ketchup, BBQ etc. Also can and freeze well.

Top Reccomendations are: -Amish Paste: MEATY, and well-suited for growing in a variety of conditions. Paste is smooth and velvety. Good for Chili, BBQ and Bolognese. -Opalka tomato: Russian Tomato, little more on the acidic side, grows well in places prone to surprise late frosts. Paste isn’t as smooth but very thick. makes great ketchup. -San Marzano: THE tomato for making Marinara Sauce (also does good bolognese). Sweeter and lighter, with a slightly runnier paste that clings well to pasta. cans and freezes excellently, does well in places with HOT summers.

3. Beef: Beef tomatoes are BIG motherfuckers that kind of take a long time to grow but are very rewarding. Beef tomatoes are firm, have a very solid meat and are best eaten raw, typically sliced onto a sandwich or seared under a broiler for a NZ Mousetrap. Not only are the fruits big but so are the Plants, so they take a long time to reach maturity and the fruit takes FOREVER to ripen but if you like a sandwich, they can’t be beat. Also they look hella impressive on instagram. They also tend to be more prone to Blossom End Rot (which is just a calcium deficiency- just make sure to fertilize with some eggshells and don’t over-water them), and despite the size, don’t tolerate cold well. Good for: Slicing on sandwiches, eating raw like you’re biting into the still-beating heart of your nemesis and enjoying that sweet, sweet revenge, searing quickly under a broiler or putting on a Kabob.

Top Reccomendations Are: -Brandywine: Hefty, great fresh tomato flavor, and PINK. -Big Zac: Goddamn Massive Tomato. A Real Heckin’ Chonker. meatier flavor and lots of firm flesh with few seeds. -Beefmaster: One problem with Beef tomatoes is that a lot of them are heirloom varietals that aren’t as widely available. Of the ones that are easy to get your hands on, Beefmaster is the best, but it lacks the flavor punch of Brandywine or Big Zac, but it’s not a BAD tomato.

4. Round/Early/All-Purpose: The Workhorse of Tomatoes, the Round Tomato does it all- sauces, salsa, sandwiches, salads, and snacks. But it doesn’t do them quite as well as the other, more specialized tomatoes. Also, some of these tomatoes have been Over-Worked and bred to fruit early and transport well, at the expense of it’s Flavor. I’M TALKING ABOUT YOU, EARLY GIRL AND BETTER BOY, YOU FLAVORLESS TENNIS BALLS, YOU INSULTS TO THE MIGHTY HOUSE OF NIGHTSHADES. Love yourself, don’t get Early Girl or Better Boy. If your season is too short for anything but the earliest of tomatoes, it may be better to grow Something Else than put all that effort in for Disappointment. That said, there are many types of Round/All-Purpose tomatoes that haven’t been overbred into corporate blandness, and I can reccomend them in good concisence if you’re not totally sure what you want to do with your tomatoes: Good For: Indecisive people, people just learning how to grow plants, using one plant for a variety of purposes, people who are not yet prepared to enter the world of Tomato Opinions. Top reccomendations are: -If you really must have an early-fruiting tomato, the Wayahead is an heirloom that people swear comes in early with good size, flavor and firm structure. I have not personally tied this varietal but people I trust like it. -Black Krim: GOD-TIER TOMATO. It’s got it all- flavor, high yields, firm structure, pest and disease resistence, fucking purple stripes. Cans Well, Freezes well, seeds well and breeds true. Fuck yes. Other tomatoes fucking WISH they had what this Hot Bitch has. -Invincible is a damn-hard-to-kill tomato that isn’t very large but fruits reliably and preforms well all around. it also ripens 3 fruits at a time so you’re not constantly overburdened with Tomato. Probably my top pick for beginners that need an Emotional Support Crop.

5. Fun: This is not, strictly speaking, a traditional type of tomato, but I feel like it’s an important category for people who want to do something different or really enjoy all Tomatoes have to offer. Good For: Trying new things, taunting the garden gods with my hubris, showing off at the garden FB group, discovering new flavors of plant.

Top Reccomendations: -Mr. Stripey: it has a goofy name, it’s yellow-and-pink striped, and it smells and tastes almost exactly like pineapple, but it doesn’t try to digest you back. I love it. -Japanese Truffle: Dark Brown tomato that looks like someone tried to make ferro rochers at home and bungled it, and has a LONG maturation time, BUT it’s got a chocolately flavor and even at maturity has green insides which give it this. Lightness? it’s hard to describe but it’s a fascinating flavor. The plant also is more branched and elegant than most tomatoes. Very different, very cool. -I have not personally tried Cherokee Purple but I have heard good things about it. We’ll see how it does in the garden this year. -Tomatillos and Ground Cherries: Not actually tomatoes, but closely related. Neat herbaceous sort of flavor, like thyme but to the left. Also comes in a fun Organic wrapping paper. -Ketchup ‘n’ Fries: a Sweet 100 tomato top grafted onto Kennebec Potato rootstock, so it grows both tomato AND potato! Grafting was invented prbably about a week after the concept of agriculture was, and consists of taking two or more closely related plants and taping a cutting of oone into a hole in the other until the plants heal together. Like that one gorilla-dude from Umbrella academy, but without the angst. You can get them pre-made or attempt to make them at home if you’re feeling adventurous and are OK with potentially killing a bunch of starts while you learn.

From what I got, Ingo prioritizes in Single Battles; it’s just like regular Pokemon battles (trainers are only allowed three Pokemons), Emmet prioritizes in Double Battles; it’s just having two Pokemons on your team fighting the two opposing Pokemons (trainers are only allowed four Pokemons), and those two do Multi Battles; it's similar to Double Battles, but instead you have someone beside you to fight against two other trainers, everyone gets out one Pokemon and attempt to work as a team to win (each trainer is only allowed two Pokemons). And the Super ones are just more difficult.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa- I still didn’t play Pokemon Black 2 fully yet (I don't even know what I'm doing in the game-), so I could be wrong on this and just making an ass of myself again- ;w;

Plus, I sorta wrote a few things that goes with my AU a bit (at least for the Sordward and Shielbert part). Since we’re sort of talking about the SwSh twins and the Subway Masters meeting each other, if their s/o is also a Subway Master.

Sordward

Well, he doesn’t really get the battle stuff in the subway much. He might’ve only tried it a few times with his younger brother. And that’s it. I mean, it’s fun. But he can think of other things to do.

Don’t get me wrong, he respects the shit out of you and the two other Subway Masters. Since it’s pretty interesting how this battle system works in general (it's just that his younger brother is more fascinated by this than him, but whatever).

And he’ll mostly just hang around the subway with either you or Emmet. Since you two seem to tolerate his existence. Ingo can’t even tolerate him for 2 seconds. And he would try to fight you… But you only do Multi Battles.

Not that he refuses to enter the Multi Battles, he entered it with his younger brother at times as mentioned before. It’s just that it’s sort of difficult when they both have a lot of steel-types on their team in general.

He might ask you questions about the subway system, since he doesn’t really know much about it in general and he’s a tad bit curious about it. Plus, it sort of gave him an excuse to be around you.

Shielbert

He’s very intrigued by the subway and the Subway Masters in general. Granted, he might’ve not been aware of the subway once he entered it (or when he arrived in Unova). But he soon got the gist of it.

He might’ve tried a few Subway Battles, even some with his older brother. But he never bothered going too far since his team kinda sucks fuck-

But once he heard about you being a Subway Master along with Emmet and Ingo, he became very fascinated with that fact and he respects the shit out of you guys. And yeah, they’ll be times when he just chills out with either you or Ingo on the subway. Since you two are actually nice to him. Well, Ingo is pretty intimidating, but still.

But it’s kinda unlikely that he’ll even encounter you on the Multi Battles, since he and his older brother sucks fuck at this. So unless Emmet gives them a “get out of jail” free card to skip everything just to encounter you, the chances are low. But he’s trying his best.

Even if he were to fight you alongside his older brother. You’d beat their ass, which it’s cool. By the way, he might ask if he can accompany you while you're conducting the subway. I mean, if he’s even allowed to.

Emmet

Okay, so he kinda thought that it was only him and Ingo who were the Subway Masters… Subway Bosses…? Bah, you get the point. So even you having that position is questionable.

He can only think that you either broke in here or Ingo gave you that position without telling him. Which he’d never do... But hey, you’re here now for some reason. Welcome aboard. :)

He doesn’t really have a problem if you use your whole team during Multi Battles. Granted, it’ll be unfair for the challengers and you’re supposed to have at least two Pokemons along with your partner, but it’s fun to make people sad sometimes-

By the way, on the topic of “needing a partner in Multi Battles”, he’ll probably try his best to fight beside you on the Multi Battle things. Just because. Or you guys could Naruto run all over the place-

It’s likely that he’ll hang out with you 24/7. Since you’re apparently a Subway Master now, so you’re always there at work like he is. Compared to a trainer who comes for 3 minutes and leaves.

Ingo

… Alright, last time he checked, it was only him and Emmet who were Subway Masters (or Subway Bosses, whatever). I mean, sure, they could make someone a Subway Master like them, but why would they do that?

So it’s either that you barged in and you self-proclaimed yourself as a Subway Master, or Emmet gave you the privilege to become a Subway Master without his permission.

Plus, you aren’t exactly allowed to use your “entire team” in Multi Battles since you’ll either be partnered with him or Emmet in there. And trainers are only allowed to have at least two Pokemons. If we go by the game logic, but whatever. You could be the secret raid boss for all he knows.

Actually, now that you’re here, there'll be times when he asks if you can join him for a walk or join a simple subway ride. For the fun of it, of course. Or talk about battle strategies because that’s pog.

It’s sort of likely that he’ll let you be in charge if something bad happens and he isn’t around to fix it, depending how high your IQ is since you could be the same disaster s/o that tortures him. Last time he disappeared, Emmet nearly cried because well… his brother disappeared with zero explanation.

Usually mistaken as the oldest. Unlike his brothers he doesn't look like a disappointment to the king and queen.

Ambitious, smart, charming, but for you he let his facade of the perfect prince down.

One of the reasons why you are the maid in the castle. Always watching you, pointing out your mistakes and everything you do wrong.

Doesn't care if you cry because if his scolding.

As his future wife you have to be perfect, flawless, just like himself

Even if he is mean you can't help but fall in love with him.

And he knows that too well.

Behind his facade he is very insecure and angry about the fact that he will never be the king of this kingdom.

Tries to hide the insecures from you and always offers you a smile. Unless you did something wrong.

Easily fell with you on love. One smile from you, one kind word and a your good manners.

And your eyes. He loves your eyes. Even if they hold tears.

Especially if they hold tears, but he has to cause them. If someone else makes you cry, he will kill.

Or let them kill.

Ruthless in this fact. Always has a plan to eliminate everyone who gets too close to you.

But always threats you with this too.

You are scared but also fascinated by him.

The oldest and the future King.

Unlike Hongjoong, Seonghwa isn't thag interested in attending important meetings.

He is still smart, strong and powerful. Ruthless to be honest.

When he rules the kingdom, no one will ever say something against him. His death stare is making everyone shiver, including you.

And his whole aura is scary.

Loves to see fear in your eyes. The little teary eyes, filled woth tears. He loves them way to much.

Would cut them out of your face, but he loves you. Doesn't want to ruin your pretty little face.

The first time you met, he scares you and threaten you with death. Because you spilled coffee all over him.

But then he saw that his brother found you interesting. Another reason to kill you.

Your little stuttering, the red face and yes the fear and shaking. Made him change his mind.

He loves to be powerful and feared.

And you give him the feeling.

The feeling that he can rules everything, that he is more than just a prince and future king.

No he wants to be the God. And first of all your God.

,,You dare to speak against me you annoying brat! Who do you think you are talking to. I'm your future king and God. Learn your place! 2 weeks in the catacombs will change your mind. I'm sure."

Prince Yunho

One of the oldest. Not very strong, but not weak either.

Not very smart, but not dumb either.

He was and is always just Yunho, the kindly, smiling and handsome prince.

Everyone adores him and his smile, his whole personality.

But all of this is making him sick. Sick and angry.

Why can't he be the oldest? Why can't he be as smart as Hongjoong or as strong as Seonghwa? Why? Why!

Wants to feel special. And appreciated.

And you are making him feel like that.

You give him the strength to smile more and more each day.

He follows you through the castle. Helps you and talks with you.

With you his smile is not fake, his smile is genuine and gentle.

But of course his brothers have to ruin everything.

He can't have one thing for himself.

Stalks you in the night, the times you bath and the times you aren't working.

He looks at you in every situation, because he knows that only he is doing this.

This is something his brothers won't steal from him.

They won't steal you aways from him.

He never fighted. He never talked back.

But if it is about you, he changes.

Handsome, charming, a flirt and arrogant.

That's how most of the people would describe this prince in their private rooms. And yes, yes he is exactly that.

He is cocky, flirty and teasing around you.

He loves to humiliate you infront of the other servants.

But why does he do this? The answer is easy.

To get your attention. Your anger. Your red and humiliated face.

Because just he and his other brother Wooyoung are supposed to see your humiliated face. And both of them love that.

They often share the fun.

One of the distracts you so you make a mistake and the other one will scold you for that infront of everyone and then pull you around with cuffed hands and a string around your pretty little neck.

He wants you for himself, but sharing you makes fun too.

Hates your tears, but if they are because he humiliated you it is beautiful.

If you try to avoid him, he will get violent and break your hands. Or pushes you down the stairs.

Then he blaims all on you. Because you are just a clumsy little kitten.

The first time he met you, he thought that you are perfect. Everything on you is perfect, but no one beside him can be perfect. And you also didn't give him enough attention.

That's why he started bullying you

And now he loves it

Prince Mingi

There are 2 things he loves.

The feeling of the arrow hitting the target and you.

Oh and both combined is tying you to a target and trying not to hurt you with the arrow.

He losts the count of how often he already did this. But it isn't his fault.

Sometimes he is just so jealous, because he can't spent so much time with you, that he has to do the things he loves at the same time.

It scares you and you are always crying when he does that.

But he loves to show you that he would never actually hurt you. If you don't piss him off of course.

Because the first time you made him jealous, he actually made you the target.

He hurted your leg painfully and his looks was so scary that you felt like dying.

After that you always tried to make him smile and it helped.

Always smiles around you and kisses your cheek. Gets red and shy with you

If someone flirts with you, they are the next target and you watch him killing them.

He is scary and brutal, but he is still a tall puppy for you.

Prince Wooyoung

Flirty, a tease and mischievously. That's what one of the youngest prince of Utopia is.

And he doesn't even try to hide it.

Already accepted the fate. The date that he will never be as powerful as his older brothers.

But since the first time he saw you. He felt that he has power. Even if it's just power over one person.

He has the power to control you.

San and him are making sure that your life in the castle is a living hell. But unlike San he is more flirty.

And not just towards you. Tries to make you jealous and often sees thag it's working.

Then he teases you about that, and degrades you.

Tells you often that you are just his little plaything, his maid and his property.

You live to please him. If he wants you crawling on the floor you do that. He wants you to eat from the floor? You better do it or he will humiliate you just like San does it.

You are a cute little kitten till you show your claws and Wooyoung makes sure you will never show them again.

He even humiliats you infront of other princesses.

They are laughing at you, spitting at you and degrading you more and Wooyoung loves the power he has over you.

The power to control your life and how it goes.

Since he doesn't have a life where he can do what he wants too.

,,Awww are you crying now? Really? Just because they laughed at you. God pet you are so useless, can't even stand some entertaining degradation for me. If you don't stop this I will make sure that everyone sees you like this, and by everyone. I mean everyone."

Prince Yeosang

Smart, but doesn't talk that much. He isn't that social not even with his brothers and the king and the queen doesn't seem like they are proud of him.

He craves your attention, he craves the way you beg for him and cry out his name.

Oh and he craves your blood.

But first things first.

The first time he saw you, he was there to punish you.

You angered all of his brothers and even if he doesn't talk much with them, they know that he is the most sadistic one out of them.

He has his fun with you and at first he doesn't understand why his brothers like you. Why they want to break you and have you for themself.

But the time he spent alone with you, showed him why.

You have him the feeling of being needed. The feeling of being strong and having the power of living and death. Just like a God.

You are making him a God.

Carries blood from you in a small bottle around.

Once a while he has his fun with you. Torturing you, especially when seonghwa locks you away.

He doesn't show his affection with lovely words, or hugs unlike his brothers.

No he shows you his love through brutal violence

Prince Jongho

The youngest and most loved prince from the family.

Everyone loves and adores him. He is friendly, sweet, but also strong and good in fighting with the sword.

He is the most dangerous in a fight out of all brothers. No one would dare to stand on the other side of his sword.

That's why you have to do it.

The first times he trains with you, he does it to make fun of you.

He isn't that sweet and kind to you, because he doesn't think you are worth it.

He doesn't see why his brothers like you, but one time he seriously injured you and his world crashed together.

Practice without you isn't fun and he slowly realizes how much you pulled him in love with you.

Gives you a ring and proposes to you after you are healed again.

You said no. Of course you said no.

And jongho made sure you regret that.

He does this over and over again, always smiling even if you give him a no as an answer.

But at some point you are sitting on your knees in front of him, his blade slowly lifting you head up and his eyes shooting a cold stare down at you.

You habe to say yes.

He will marry you.

And no one is going to stop him. Not even you
