okay but what obscure music do you listen to 🤔🤔🤔 i’m curious (it’s okay if ur gatekeeping LOL i understand. one of my fav obscure bands is REDACTED so i get it 🩷)
the most obscure and my FAVVVVVV ARTIST EVER is sopor aeternus & the ensemble of shadows 😄 idk her music is described on google as “neoclassical dark wave”… like idek what that means…….. also i tried listening to other music in that genre and i hate it all its literally only her 💀
also my music may not be completely obscure, but it’s like definitely a weird combination??? like i go from glee covers to goth music to new wave to gangsta rap.. i found that the only common factor in the songs i like is that i need it to change every 5 seconds whether it’s the beat of the song or the instrumentals or the way the person is singing i need it FUNKY!!!!!

For the character ask game, please!
thank you!!!!
12. What's a headcanon you have for this character?
I'm super partial to a past sexual relationship between Théoden and Gríma that started sometime after Théodred's mother died and Gríma first gained a higher position in Meduseld.I don't think it was particularly emotionally fulfilling for Gríma because he considered it part of social climbing and any admission of weakness towards Théoden would also count against his promotions. Théoden never wished to acknowledge the relationship beyond the bedroom. Gríma was almost relieved when Théoden was weakened enough by his and Saruman's magic to no longer recall Gríma's bedside duties.
25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now?
My first impression on reading the books that there was an outsider no-one liked in Rohan who'd earned everyone's contempt because of his secret loathsomeness and then later Gandalf idly discussed how much he'd suffer and did nothing to intervene. Naturally I imprinted on my fellow human monster (in my case, the secret loathsomeness that made no one like me was undiagnosed autism lol).
I've also always loved henchmen, and Gríma's a classic henchman. Henchmen get hurt and killed without thought while the Boss gets offered mercy (they both are offered mercy in Tolkien though and he has my respect for it).
I do think my child self is essentially correct, though now I add that Gríma is hot, Gríma's the only goth in jock Rohan in the movies and therefore gets extra solidarity, Brad Dourif does a great performance, and that perhaps Gríma did more things wrong than my knee-jerk solidarity child self was willing to admit
5. What's the first song that comes to mind when you think of them?
youtube
Sopor Aeternus & the Ensemble of Shadows - Do you know my name? / What has happened while we slept
We have revived the water... or perhaps it simply woke up on its own. Anticipating, it is murmuring now along its ancient bed. Where is the stone, the tower, that worships and reveres us? No such a stone is here, I swear, well feeling that there should be On hottest rods we're shooting through the night along a private garden-way, though we no longer have any business being here On the left-hand side the greenhouse of a market garden What fragile shoots are being sheltered there?! Merry Rock, dressed in the midnight gown of tears, he is sitting on the floor and cries, his eyes are gazing at the western sky Oh everything seems lost to him Tapping his shoulder gently, my desire hardly concealed: You've done a lot already, and much more you will achieve! Sweet syrup consolation is dripping from my mouth... Can I myself believe this solemn vow?
I shattered all the mirrors fearfully hoping they won't be able to remember my face. Darkest of all lights most greedy to embrace surrounded by demons or breathing in life... Between the tides the time seems endlessly the force of habit or whatever pulled me back into a well-known pain. What uses the knowledge of my progression when the old world is gone without a new in sight, with my new found life I am homeless again...
I adore this song and it's a sign of my favouritism towards Gríma that it makes me think of him but just listen, and think of Gríma after Isengard falls, forced to walk west...

I had a few songs for everyone.
On Aeron’s list were The Kiss, The Snakepit, If Only Tonight We Could Sleep, and Torture. (All from the Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me album by the Cure. It’s possible you’ve already listened to it.)
Countess Bathory by Venom was on there for the very literal lyrics but I don’t think the sound fits them.
But if I had to choose only one song to suggest for Aeron, it would be Tanz Der Grausamkeit by Sopor Aeternus. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=q_gr0RBqx9U
The song is vampiric in meaning, soft and loving but menacing as it’s from the POV of a victim, the title literally translates to ‘Dance Of Pain’…
But also if you translate the German parts of the song it really brings to mind Aeron and Eri. Specifically Eri speaking to Delusion/Aeron, or at least someone in his position saying what they want him to be expressing and asking of them. What they think and tell themselves would help him. What will happen to him. It’s a little eerie.
Lyrics here for convenient copy paste or just google and pick a lyrics site you consider safe. https://songmeanings.com/songs/view/3530822107858524961/
For Eri I actually changed my mind about what I’d choose for him. Initially they were goth/goth adjacent songs regarding being threatened and toyed with by someone more powerful, eyes, hallucinations, serpents and shutting down/withdrawing emotionally under trauma.
Clown - Switchblade Symphony https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=A3dEWeu7aII (sung from Delusion’s POV)
A Strange Day - The Cure https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=c4mym0EFKM8
Cold - The Cure https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=BfZ5__1lfXo
This Chapter Opens - Neikka RPM https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=rhf_Qq00h8c But seeing the quiet melancholy playlist, if I could choose only one to suggest it would be Keep The Streets Empty For Me by Fever Ray. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=jWFb5z3kUSQ
Strange choice but it’s more the subtext and feeling. It’s sung from the point of view of a deer creeping carefully through the streets at night, trying to avoid threats through isolation (specifically trying to avoid predators/being hit and killed).
It’s a vulnerable, lonely, and quietly distraught song. About tenuous survival and enduring while hoping to find safety (whether physical or emotional.) A bit lost. Bittersweet. Hopeful and fearful. Hanging in there. At least that’s my impression. https://songmeanings.com/songs/view/3530822107858757326/
I had more ideas for Dorian and Genesis but I’m not sure whether they’d fit now and this is getting long.
i'll do this in order!
i have listened to the cure i love goth music. i've always thought hot hot hot!!! fit genesis, like cockatoos fit aeron, and if only we could sleep fit erebus if we use the kiss me kiss me kiss me album specifically.
countless bathory is a song i could see aeron and genesis performing together. erebus would perform music with them when he gets better.
sopor aeternus is a group i know! i got recommended them on a whim. huge fan of the whole les fleurs du mal album (and i like the collection of short stories the album is named off of too). tanz der grausamkeit fits the regality i have for aeron in close quarters, intoxicating, always readying a dagger despite pleas behind their own eyes to not, the sacrifice of love for art, art for love, and realizing it's okay to be bad. no redemption lies in beauty. there was a desire for erebus not in body but in theatrics and his pigment as paint.
anyway. not the point.
starting with erebus music:
cold is a song i swear i put on his playlist, but looking at it again, i didnt! pornography is such a good album.
clown is not a song i would've thought for erebus. if i had to pick one from serpentine gallery, it would've been rain, but clown is. really good?
neikka rpm is a new artist! the cover of the song is enough to convince me to eri eri's side. i really like this one.
keep the streets empty for me is a song i love. i had a huge love for fever ray back in 2014-16 when hannibal was especially popular. "I'm laying down, eating snow / My fur is hot, my tongue is cold / On a bed of spider web / I think of how to change myself" is very him. very erebus. thank you for bringing these to my attention. <3

This Is Why Most People Don't Ask, LOL
5 songs I've been listening to lately! I was tagged by @aranov
youtube
Most musicians I like make me want to become better at music; Farya Faraji is one of the few who makes me want to quit because I'm just never going to be this talented or knowledgeable, ugh! This song's a great example of his historical and linguistic chops as well as his arranging and singing skills.
youtube
I've just been listening to everything by Anna-Varney lately. She's a mood. I didn't want this to be the Sopor Aeternus Only List, though.
youtube
It do be that time of year again...
youtube
This whole album has been criminally forgotten, but "If I Knew" lives rent-free in my head often.
youtube
Dillon DeRosa always creates the soundtrack for Andy's films and I shudder to think how much he must cost to hire because the man is brilliant.

At the core of eternal sleep - Anna
Tumblr media
This band originated when Anna met Holger at a gothic club in Germany. They couldn't afford instruments, so their creations relied solely on their imaginative minds. Despite this, they produced quite a lot of works and released a demo album in 1992.
Later, Holger left the band, and the label Apocalyptic Visions released the band's first studio album. Their works included a lot of brass and woodwind instruments, particularly flutes, with strong religious connotations, along with various guitars and synthesizers. The content often dealt with themes of suicide, sorrow, despair, loneliness, gender identity, and death.
Tumblr media
Anna, the heart and soul of the band, cannot be separated from these themes. A thinker, philosopher, and gender nonconformist, Anna's creations embody yearnings and praises for the darkness, as well as depressed and twisted thoughts. Coupled with deeply philosophical and thought-provoking lyrics, her music possesses an extraordinary allure.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anna, once called Varney, took the name Anna, meaning "elegance" and "grace," as she had always wanted to be a woman since birth—an idea that tormented her. She had a painful childhood. Her mother frequently subjected her to violence, and she referred to her mother as "the woman who provided food, clothing, and beatings."
These experiences left her extremely sensitive, psychologically fragile, withdrawn, and silent. In her inner world, she created the "The Theater of Seven Hells," a place where she played games and dialogued with herself, later becoming a source of inspiration for her creations. Even from a young age, she longed for the world of death. The 1995 album is called "Todeswunsch - Sous le Soleil de Saturne," which means "death wish."
Lonely people aren't always lonely. Anna had a spiritual friend named The Ensemble of Shadows, which is why the band's full name is Sopor Æternus & the Ensemble of Shadows. This ensemble of shadows was Anna's companions, creating and wandering together in the universe. She said that she lived with her music and shadow friends in her own illusory space.
While this may be related to Anna's childhood withdrawal, she did manage to live with the help of her shadow friends and live fully. She had her own values and philosophical views. She believed that all things in the universe are interconnected, and the purpose of life is to find the connection between oneself and all things. Physical things are real, and the spiritual world is also real and eternal.
Sopor Aeternus means "eternal sleep," symbolizing perpetual slumber in the "painful, repulsive real world." How to wake up from this slumber has always been the theme of Anna's music and poetry. She used creating music as a means to escape pain. The loneliness in such creations is deeply felt. In interviews, Anna mentioned that only through her music does she dare to express her inner feelings implicitly; otherwise, she doesn't dare to speak about her pain.
Tumblr media
In a fax interview, Anna said, "I have no habit of explaining the meaning of lyrics—nor do I want to explain. Although I hope through my music, people can face their true selves with courage or gain a deeper understanding of their inner world, let them comprehend the real world through these hints or release suppressed spiritual worlds. But that's impossible because people are always self-righteous, and they can never escape the deeply rooted traditional thoughts in their minds."
Tumblr media
My favorite line from her lyrics: "Silver equals chill, but that suits me just fine." 🫧🤍

do you have recommendations for someone who wants to get into goth music? i liked switchblade symphony's stuff but hearing more about them as people kind of turned me away from them. for other genres i like, i'm a big fan of math rock. in general though im pretty openminded music wise, so i guess what are some bands you really like & what do you like about them?
If you liked Switchblade Symphony, give these bands a try:
Collide
Diva Destruction
binzatina
La Scaltra
For more Darkwave in general:
The Frozen Autumn
Hante.
The Last Dance
Clan of Xymox
I'm gonna be honest, I had to google Math Rock because I've never listened to it, I've only seen people mentioning the genre, so if my following recommendations are really off I'm very sorry, BUT I think you should try weirdo Post-Punk. There is a type of Post-Punk that rather than being melancholic and all of that is just fucking weird and very unpolished and it's SO fun.
youtube
youtube
I was gonna embed Baby Turns Blue by Virgin Prunes too but it's not letting me so here's the link instead. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6IR8FOooqo
I hate Alien Sex Fiend with every bit of my being but I guess I can't talk about weirdo Post-Punk without mentioning them.
youtube
As for bands I really like, while I like goth from all decades and of all subgenres, I'm big into 90s goth regarding a specific decade, and I mainly listen to Gothic Rock, Darkwave and Ethereal.
I'm huge into Faith and the Muse, London After Midnight, (old) Lacrimosa, Sopor Aeternus, Nosferatu, Diva Destruction, This Ascension, Rosetta Stone, Paralysed Age and two bands that to me are a combo; Requiem in White and Mors Syphilitica.
I like them because of the complex musical layers of their songs, the atmospheres, the passion and emotionality, the sensuality, the Darkness™ and the beauty of their sound and lyrics. They're so romantic as a "vibe", but also such good musicians on a technical level. They're so evokative too. Depending on the song I get images in my mind of red velvet and a glass of red wine, or of dark fantasy landscapes, or dark creepy catacombs barely lit by candlelight. I feel beautiful listening to them.

Lmao ok so this’ll probably be a long post but here’s all the songs I think everyone from each of the nine house would listen to from my Spotify library
((also feel free to judge my music taste))
Ninth house
Harrow- Okok so i have a lot to say about what music I think harrow listens to I think she’d like weird older gothic music cuz it’s kinda spooky kinda churchy kinda intense but so so good
Wytches - Inkubus Sukkubus
Gideon- you can’t tell me Nav wouldn’t fucking love like classic rock ,I’m genuinely sad she’ll never listen to things like Joan Jett, Heart, Pat Benatar. So I’ll give her 2
Bad reputation- Joan Jett & the Blackhearts
Heartbreaker - Pat Benatar
Eight house
Silas - I genuinely think mayo uncles music taste is similar to harrows but in a different way
Stigmata Martyr - Bauhaus
Colum - lmao ok I honestly don’t think he likes music, like I can’t find a song on my Spotify I think he’d sit down and enjoy, he probably just second hand listens to Silas music and doesn’t enjoy it
Seventh house ((htn tho cuz I say so))
Dulcie- Miss “horny for revenge” LIVES for Florence + the machine, just enough kick ass + a lil romancey vibe but in a dope witchy way
Cosmic love - Florence + the machine
Protesilaus-I personally like to think he listens to like “tough” dad music
Fortune son- Creedence clearwater Revival
Sixth house
Palamedes - he’s chill he probably likes like chill but rad tunes but his Taste isn’t exactly “mainstream” liking smaller name bands or lesser popular songs from big name artists genuinely , he likes things like passion pit, the pixies and Portugal.the man
Basic space- The XX
Camilla- she likes bad bitch music and most of pals music also
Didn’t come to play- Dope saint Jude
Fifth house
Abigail- I think she likes Stevie nicks like I can just feel it in my bones, she likes the chill but sometimes odd vibes
Sisters of the moon- fleetwood mac
Magnus- ok y’all knew this was coming he like full on “dad” music but more on the like low key silly dad kinda way but it’s good music so no one can complain
Brown eyed girl- van Morrison
Fourth house
Isaac- the kiddos like the “new wave punk “ ish kinda edgy music but it’s so cool
The Phoenix - fall out boy

Molotov girls- The Zolas
Cry baby - destroy boys
Third house
Coronabeth- she listens to baddie music only
Mans world- Marina
Ianthe- she also listens to baddie music but enjoys weird bands a little bit more, like Harley Poe, the mountain goats and will wood
Magpie- the mountain goats
Naberius- ok hot take I think it unironically likes stupid pop trash music, it started as a joke cuz the twins would play it around him but he started to actual like it, makes him feel like a bad bitch lmao I think he’d vibe w YUNGBLUD also
What are you waiting for- Gwen stefani
Anarchist- YUNGBLUD
Second house
Judith - she tough but I think she likes a little bit more chill tunes, music you can listen to and still think and enjoy
Be nice to me- the frontbottoms
Lone Ranger - Rachel platten
Marta- she even tougher but shes got good music taste, little more fast paced not aggressive music but more so then judiths
Survive- the moog
First house
((but I have less reasoning for them))
Mercymorn- her music is?? Interesting, it’s good and sounds good but there is something kinda strange about it but not super sure why?? I mean listen to the song it’s self explanatory
Scary world- night club
Augustine- he gives off a certain bastard energy that can only be described as cage the elephant, no I will not elaborate
Mess around- cage the elephant
John- similar to Augustine, he gives specific bastard energy BUT a different kind, his music reflects this
Teeth- 8 graves
Bonus
okokok more about harrowhark for a sec , we all joke she’d be into emo music like MCR BUT I think she’s actually more AFI circa 2003 in terms of “emo” music
Silver and cold-AFI
Ortus - I have no proof and no reason but I think he’d like most Mumford & sons songs
The cave- Mumford & sons
Nova- ok so I don’t think nova would listen to music at all BUT if she had to it would be like hardcore metal or the weirdest aggressive church gothic music possible
Dead souls - sopor aeternus & the ensemble of shadows
Livestream - veil of maya
Wake- Okokok not music I think she’d listen to BUT I have a song that’s vaguely her vibe and idk where else to put it so enjoy!
massacre -kim pertras

Playlist for Casandra from Pico’s School with mostly old goth+metal music, for example, Bauhaus and The Cure.
[I noticed in the wiki page that Casandra likes/is associated with KMFDM, which is one of my fav bands! I added them even tho they are considered industrial. I also included other industrial because of that, along with classic goth, goth rock, and only a bit of metal influence- but since Bauhaus and the Cure aren’t metal, I figured this would be okay, hope you like it! I went a little overboard since I’m also goth…hahah   ~Mod Dirk]
Track List:
1. Juke Joint Jezebel- KMFDM
2. Figurative Theatre- Christian Death
3. Psycho Magnet- London After Midnight
4. Godlike- KMFDM

(My) TOP Discovered Albums of the year 2019 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Here again, for the fourth year in a row! Ready to go through the list of discovered music that I have found this year. It has been quite a long year. The thing that is different from the other years is that I have felt a little bit more stressed about the list. I don’ t know why. Just is. And that is a good judgement of what my year has been about. Stress. Angst. Hardships. Fatigue. And Surprises.
I always think I won’t be able to find any new music each year. But I am always mistaken. Thousands of albums down the road. And ain’t that the best thing. Amidst the times.
And thus, a lot of the music I found this year, that has been put on this list is of the more chill side. Not anything too harsh. Just.... a stream of consciousness.
As Usual, Albums I have encountered throughout the year are listed below -with only the last five in a true top order:
Tumblr media
40.
Mad Doctor X - Picnic with the Greys (1997)
A picnic we should all attend, -don’t forget the Oui’d!
Tumblr media
39.
Tomb Mold ‎– Planetary Clairvoyance (2019)
Dang, that’s death metal done well.
Tumblr media
38.
Moor Mother - Analog Fluids Of Sonic Black Holes (2019)
Self-explanatory.
Tumblr media
37.
Darzamat - In the Opium of Black Veil (1999)
Good AF black metal.
Tumblr media
36.
karl sanders - saurian meditation (2004)
Darker than you think. Hypnosis.
Tumblr media
35.
The Dolphin Brothers - Catch the Fall (1987)
Richard Barbieri and Steve Jansen plays wonderous synth-pop akin to something... I cannot remember right now. But they are good nonetheless.
Tumblr media
34.
Reiko Kudo - Rice Field Silently Riping In The Night (2019)
(Dis)harmonious multi-instrumental live-recording’easque music with singing and (soft) noise.
Tumblr media
33.
Michael Stearns - M'Ocean
Michael Stearns makes the most chill music in the universe. Except for maybe that one U.F.O. trip album that can be chill in the scary cold sense.
Tumblr media
32.
Henryk Górecki - Kleines Requiem-Lerchenmusik
Classical album of the year. Górecki always delivers.
Tumblr media
31.
VOIGHT KAMPFF - MORE HUMAN THAN HUMAN (2012)
Fast techno-trash metal band.
Tumblr media
30.
Sopor Aeternus & The Ensemble Of Shadows - Death And Flamingos (2019)
Sopor Aeternus & The Ensemble Of Shadows is a band that will always have a special space in my heart. Their music got me through the most part of high school. The dark ambivalent songs. Yet, never forgetting the ironic twinkle in the eye.
Tumblr media
29.
Earl Slick - Zig Zag (2003)
That edge of the seat feel of rock; next stage to come, just: SLICK.
Tumblr media
28.
Kooba Tercu - Kharrub (2019)
You will be grateful I rec’d this jammin’ piece of fast jumping action of absurdity and happiness. :)
Tumblr media
27.
Red Snapper - Making Bones (1998)
Trip Hop Album of The year. Seeing to what trip-hop releases there were around the time of this album’s release, I am so fucking surprised I had never heard of these before. They are just as brilliant as the all too famous Portishead, if not with an upper edge in a lot of cases.
Tumblr media
26.
Supercar - Three Out Changes!! (1998)
Shoegaze of the year. Lovely. CHILL. Summer evening breathe’
Tumblr media
25.
Anna Domino - East & West (1984)
Timeless synth-pop with rich textures of dreamy lyrics that ensnares you into a downtempo that.... goes up.
Tumblr media
24.
Troy Gregory - XAVIERA (2018)
Monumental Prog.
Tumblr media
23.
shit & shine - bad vibes (2018)
It is What it Says. Yeah I am on Acid’
Tumblr media
22.
Datarock ‎- Face The Brutality (2018)
Norwegian indie masters. I love Datarock very, very much. I’ve listened to them since the 2007 release Red and I don’t know a band with as much coercive pop in each track. This album was a surprise find, since I was convinced they were out of the loop.
Tumblr media
21.
HIZAKI grace project  - Curse Of Virgo (2008)
Symphonic Metal. Hizaki is a master of the guitar. Such Riffs. If you need to drain your brain to metal and feel energized but still mesmerized, this is it.
Tumblr media
20.
Institut Für Feinmotorik ‎- Abgegriffen (2011)
Coolest Experimental Band of the year. Go check them out on youtube. The making of the music here is truly an Experience.
Tumblr media
19.
Deafkids ‎- Metaprogramação (2019)
D-beat, Raw Punk, Downtempo ... band from Volta Redonda, Rio De Janeiro - Brazil. NOISE.
Tumblr media
18.
 WipEout Omega Collection OST (2017)
The wipeout games are and will forever be my favorite way of anti-gravity racing. The music to Wipeout Omega Collection is as stellar as ever, a great list of electro and techno musicians.
Tumblr media
17.
Hammer Bros. - Police Story (1997)
Imagine being at an underground hardcore noise rave party in 1997. Imagine the beat blasts. The speed. The energy. Just the grinding shouts, the beat, and you. Ready to dive. BURN. WATER. REPEAT.
Tumblr media
16.
AFCGT ‎– Square Microphone Tapes
Noise rock galore. Glory. Wonderful. Gnarly. Intelligent. Different. Moody.
Tumblr media
15.
Future Of The Left ‎– Human Death (2013)
Great leftist lyrics. Another one of RIk’s rec’s. Just Awesome. Good Music. Hate on capitalism and its endless bringer of deaths.
Tumblr media
14.
Molchat Doma* ‎– Etazhi (2018)
Youtube rec of the year. Darkwave energies en masse!
Tumblr media
13.
3.2 - The Rules Have Changed  (2018)
The follow up to the infamous To The Power Of Three album from 1986 by Emerson, Lake and Berry. The first record was hated on by many, but I love it. And this very late follow up is a huge accomplishment and honoring to the late people involved. A record my dad would have liked. I just love prog music. Sigh.
Tumblr media
12.
Saori Kobayashi - Terra Magica (2016)
Ethereal Game Music is not easy to make. Yet somehow, Saori manages it. No wonder really. She was behind Panzer Dragoon. Masterpiece album for what a tribute it is.
“Terra Magica is a love letter from Saori Kobayashi to her fans. Featuring the same rich, melodic tones that defined the iconic soundtracks of Panzer Dragoon Saga and Panzer Dragoon Orta, Kobayashi invites listeners to enter the world she has created, while encouraging them to create their very own story to match the progression of the music.“
Tumblr media
11.
ENTROPY CREATED CONSCIOUSNESS - Impressions of the Morning Star (2018)
Symphonic Doom Metal of the year
Tumblr media
10.
Sleaford Mods - Divide and Exit (2014)
Rec of the year by @planetsedge - Rik has served several discs on this list this year.
Tumblr media
9.
Mobile Suit Z Gundam BGM Collection (Vol.1 - Vol.3)  (1985)
The title track to this animé, sung by Mami Ayukawa, and its subsequent soundtrack is probably one of the best I have heard. 80′s animé has the best soundtracks, mostly.
Tumblr media
8.
K2 - Iron Kulture 7' (1996)
Noise artist of the year.
Tumblr media
7.
Klaus Dinger + Japandorf (2013)
Surprise find of the year in the sense of knowing the artist in other bands (NEU! and Kraftwerk) but totally missing this somehow. Late late find. Total love. Electronic mists will seep into your ears listening to this.
Tumblr media
6.
Beak - >>>
Pop-like krautrock. Laid back, but with thought behind it. Allé Sauvage is my fave track. Just the perfect amount of mystery and rhythm and synths. First list find of the year.
Tumblr media
5.
The Muffs - Alert Today Alive Tomorrow
20 years ago The Muffs released this album, and I wish... the years had been kinder. This album helped me a lot though when I found it. A lot of nostalgia will arise listening to this.
Damned if you feel alright ~
Tumblr media
4.
BIG STICK - LP (2019)
EARWORM OF THE YEAR!!! Calamari Co Co Butter Calamari Co Co Butter Calamari Co Co Butter Calamari Co Co Butter Calamari Co Co Butter Calamari Co Co Butter Calamari Co Co Butter Calamari Co Co Butter Calamari Co Co Butter Calamari Co Co Butter Calamari Co Co Butter Calamari Co Co ButterCalamari Co Co Butttttttttttttttteeeeerrrrr.
In the bodega.
Tumblr media
3.
Jesca Hoop - Stonechild (2019)
Indie folk niceties. Chill, interesting blend of rock and singing elements. Not mystical, but still with mysteries. Got third place because I kept remembering it so much. It penetrated my skull.
Tumblr media
2.
Doji Morita - A Boy (1977)
This album was an early find and should be my album of the year. Morita’s voice is amongst the softest and kindest I have ever heard. And she has all the wonderful aesthetics to boot! Acoustics with accompanying strings and pianos in most of the tracks. It isn’t, because the N’1 is such an explosion of a surprise.
The third track, ふるえているネ (One who is trembling) is my favorite. I do tremble at the very thoughts expressed in this track. The bird wings at the end... yeah. Every track on this album is a masterpiece.
Music as pulling one’ s strings of the heart. That is what this album is about.
I will keep it at that with the words. No more has to be said. Just listen, you will understand.
Tumblr media
1.
Kagami - Star Arts (2002)
Explosive, Happy, Creative, Constantly Changing Originality.
 Techno. Disco. TeSco.
Toshiyasu Kagami was a genius in his genre. I’ve heard a lot of techno mixes and textures in my life, but not anything like this before.
Each track slaps you in the head and forces you to the rhythm, only for you to go.... HMMMMMMMMmmmMmmMmMMmmMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMM when the flow enters its synergies of musical delight. What else is there to say when your ears are filled with such pleasant sounds. Just when you think it won’t change up, it will change up. Impossible to predict. Dancefloor killer. Intelligent Mixes.
No philosophical analysis, only my body moving to the most energetic beat EVER.
Concrete Masterpiece. My album of the year in 2019.

10 Songs I’m Currently Obsessed With tag
@melodyoftheriver tagged me in this, and I’m very passionate about music (especially as of late, thanks to me writing an awful lot, and more specifically writing about music), so let’s do this. Although this will most likely be “10 ALBUMS i’m currently obsessed with”, since 99% of what I listen to at the moment is post-rock/instrumental music while writing, so it’s way easier to listen to hours long stuff than short songs while doing so. I hope this will give some of you some inspiration for - very fine - music to listen to while writing/making art/studying/chilling.
1. Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven : this is honestly the 8th wonder of the world, one hour and a half of sheer beauty and yes, it’s just... incredibly gorgeous and powerful and emotional and everything you can imagine. i’ve been listening to it so much half of the views might as well be mine.
2. Maïak - A Very Pleasant Way To Die : just as good as the first tbh. those two first albums cover 95% of what i listen to on the daily.
3. MONO & World's End Girlfriend - Palmless Prayer/ Mass Murder Refrain : i could honestly just cite all of MONO’s discography, but this feature album with WEG, which is one of my all time fav band, is like the blessing we don’t deserve.
4. Journey OST : it’s just good. like, very good. perfect for writing. nothing to add, really, just listen to it.
5. Firewatch OST : same tbh. been in love with this OST for years.
6. MONO - THE LAST DAWN : just because i felt this list needed more MONO.
7. CLANN - Seelie : very gorgeous atmospheric music. yes.
(that’s it albums wise, now it’ll just be a couple songs)
8. Ernst Bloch - Prayer : i mean, seriously? i don’t even have words for how beautifully tragic this is. and this particular version is beyond words. Hauser owns my heart.
9. the GazettE - Coda : “currently obsessed” for the past 5 years. yes, this is absolutely where my inspiration for my current eruri fic came from. most beautiful 3 minutes of your life, trust me.
10. Sopor Aeternus & the Ensemble of Shadows - On Satur(n)days we used to sleep : i was seriously considering citing the whole album where it’s from (and you should just go listen to the whole thing tbh). But this one is so soft and honestly i blame @seitsen-sarvi not only for making me obsessed with eruri, but also with Anna Varney, the real queen of this world.
And that’s it! I’m tagging @fallenrazziel, @huxandthehound, and i’m afraid that as far as my extent of eruri friends goes, but seriously i’m tagging whoever wants to do it, i’m always curious to discover more music and all, so if you decide to do it, make sure to @ me so i can check it out. love y’all and hope you enjoy the angsty music, because i for sure do.

Favorite solo artists: Sopor Aeternus and the Ensemble of Shadows, which is actually a one-man-band. Burzum. Saltillo.
Song stuck in my head: Today’s song is ‘Song of Imaginary Beings’ by IAMX. This thing is corroding my mind. The song is about a woman who couldn’t love real men thus she ‘fashoned one’. Gradually, she yielded to her dreams and disappeared *devilish laughter*
Last movie I watched: I rarely watch movies. Not very much into cinema. The last thing was a GOT episode. The last length film was ‘Ghost in the Shell’ remake which - as expected - I didn’t like at all.

Do you have any Itachi or Sasuke music headcanons? Like, what kind of music they'd be into, or what instrument you'd see them playing?
Tumblr media
It’s kind of tough because music is an extremely subjective thing on which everyone has strong feelings. Long post ahead.
This ask is obviously referring to modern AUs. Usually I like modern AUs that aren’t US based because obviously not, or too weeb-Japan based either. Even though Naruto is set in a Japan-based fictional world and its values are Japanese based, it’s still a fiction, broader and more open than real world after all. Anyway My music knowledge is based on European and American sounds.I ignore mainstream pop. I didn’t mention (almost) Italian stuff because only I would know it. I only know a few Japanese artists/songs not counting anime music. I dislike Kpop. Deal with it. Hawk
Although I add music to my edits and writing, doing a more direct thing is tricky. Shinobi are associated with silence, secrets, sacrifice. Itachi is private and mysterious, and Sasuke is straightforward but private as well. On the contrary music is not just a silence breaker but it’s also a revealing mean of self-expression.
Itachi’s taste would be eclectic. He would like refined sounds like classical music, certain vintage and classy bossa nova, but also lots of (classy) electronic, and dark, mysterious and suggestive imagery like some dark ambient/dark folk (Sopor Aeternus, Ataraxia, Qntal). He wouldn’t be too much into guitar riffs and power chords but he’d love synthetizers and bass based sounds, so he’d like 80s new wave, and new new wave (Interpol). He would also love crossovers, music that mixes different genres, like new wave and jazz (like Tuxedomoon), punk and electronic (like PIL) ethnic/punk/indie mixes (like there’s an Italian band called Traffic Lights Orchestra whose best song that is about the ghost of a soldier died in the Balcan war and it’s heartbreaking and musically amazing and really deep). He would also like some rock, like grunge bands, not their heaviest and angriest songs but the most suggestive and poetic.
He would mostly be drawn towards mysterious, meaningful lyrics, whether they carry a deep political/social message or a suggestive and bizarre imagery, or they’re thought provoking, not to mention puns, wordplay and symbolism.
He would lean towards older sounds compared to newest ones, and despite he’d prefer less known or even obscure artists, he would appreciate some popular classics. Also, lots of David Bowie.
Sasuke would grow up beside Itachi so he’d naturally assimilate a lot of his taste. He would like new wave, grunge and indie, but he would prefer punk and harder rock to electronic ambient. I don’t mean to continue the emo Sasuke cliché here, but I imagine him liking dark-ish sounds. And I see him drawn towards lyrics that have a strong personal meaning to him, like, he’d be drawn to a single line because it would have some connection to his own experience and feelings, no matter the context. So mostly angsty lyrics and angry/gloomy sounds depending on the moment. Uh sorry but I can’t think of anything better than Avenged Sevenfold, AFI, Nerve Agents, Pitch Black and more.
Some songs and lyrics would have a magical quality because he grew up with Itachi listening to them, so they’re a part of his soul, and whenever they play his mind would wander back to those moments. He would also love to be with Itachi when those songs are played, for example Transmission by Joy Division, or Annarella by CCCP (another Italian band, sorry it’s not in English but it’s a heartbreaking song and the lyrics make me think of them).
He would also get suggestions by his friends and peers but he would mostly dismiss them, as his taste is well formed already and very much influenced by Itachi, whose suggestions he would instead follow. But he would freely express his dislike for certain things. He might sometimes like random mainstream songs or happier sounds. He doesn’t actually hide this fact but he doesn’t announce it out loud. But, when someone (not Itachi) discovers it and tries to laugh at it, he simply admits it matter-of-fact, no shame at all.
Oh, System of a Down! Itachi likes them mostly for the vibe and different influences, and Sasuke for lyrics and energy.
About musical instruments.
Itachi is the type who’s good at everything at the first try, so he’d pick up the basics of most instruments he stumbles upon. Unless it’s an AU where he’s a musician though, I only see him playing as a hobby in most others, as his main interests might be more philosophical and political. Anyway he’d definitely could play piano and guitar (and, returning to canon universe, shamisen!). Also synthetizers and bass, because it’s the instrument that makes up the rhythmic section and even though it’s not noticed by everyone, it’s what builds up the song. Also in a band bass players are less flashy than guitarists, and more mysterious. Just like him~
Speaking about bands, I don’t see Itachi as the lead singer. He’d have a beautiful deep voice and he’d sing well but he’d prefer being the backup singer. But I also kinda see him singing in a band, where he’d have an amazing presence, not moving very much but capturing all eyes on himself. The type who when the song is over the crowd stays silent a few seconds because he made them dream.
Sasuke is a fast learner. In the official illustrations he plays flute and shamisen, so of course they count. In a modern AU he’d learn after Itachi, always wanting to be like him and to spend time with him. So he’d play guitar, a little piano, and bass. He is a bassist type as well. If he sang he wouldn’t have a powerful voice, but its distinctive rasp would make it recognizable. Also he would be calm mostly but on some parts he’d kinda engage the audience aggressively or his singing would become very heartfelt. Unlike Itachi in the average AU I can imagine him being a musician as more than a hobby because he expresses himself more freely.
I’m kinda imagining him as the bass player in a team 7 band, and the singer in Team Taka, sounding like either AFI or White Lies ~
What else? Ah, yes. Itachi and Sasuke playing together. Because they would. In Itachi’s room, since they are young, Itachi playing guitar and humming the song, Sasuke following him. Itachi praising his voice and Sasuke blushing and singing louder. Or playing in a band together, one singing with or without guitar, the other playing bass and backing vocals, looking at each other during the chorus~
Somehow I’m imagining White Lies again, or Better Than Love by The Hurts, in case they sound kinda synthpop…oh but also some grunge rock like Mailman by Soundgarden. Just…that song must be sung by Sasuke no matter what, because of..uh, reasons.
Classical instruments. Itachi playing piano but also cello, because it has a warm sound that fills the room and has an eerie quality that is very fascinating. Sasuke playing clarinet but also violin, that has an intense sound that resonates with feelings very much. Also cello is played while sitting, violin is also played standing up and that’s how I picture them.
I also kinda picture them playing Beethoven’s Kreutzer Sonata, a duet between piano and violin (btw Tolstoj wrote a short novel with that title, about a woman and a man playing this sonata which was so intense in the dialogue between the 2 instruments, that it was almost sinful, a sort of replacement for an affair. I associate this intensity to Itachi and Sasuke’s bond a lot).
Also what about a jazz era/mobsters AU where Itachi plays stand-up bass and the Sasuke plays clarinet (aah Akatsuki+Taka big band..)~
Edit June 2018: courtesy of a conversation with @moonsuke: what about a Showa/Taisho era AU where Itachi goes to study abroad and when he returns he plays cello in his room and Sasuke kneels on the ground close to him, mesmerized by the sight of his big brother playing that mysterious instrument, holding it close between his legs, caressing or strongly stroking its chords~

I’ve been watching the “40 years of goth style” videos on Youtube and, I dont know why, but it made me think of all the phases I’ve been through since I was a teenager. I distinctly remember I started off by listening to Rap music (I know, I know) because it was what everyone listened to when I was in middle school. Then I drifted to japanese music when I discovered manga and anime when I was 13 and I spent my days listening to Visual Kei. Then I drifted a bit to Jrock and ended up finally completly stopping listening to japanese music when it became a thing here in France (I know it may sound pretentious but I was fed up with all these pre-teens girls listening to bad japanese music and telling me that was the new shit). Then I migrated to Finland somehow and started listening to what we called “Love Metal” then (mostly HIM, Negative, Lovex, 69 Eyes, Sinamore and stuff like that). Then I migrated again, this time to industrial and EBM music (Psyclon9, Combichrist, KMFDM, Hocico, Aesthetic Perfection, Faderhead, Agonoize and the like). Later I started to listen to bands like Sopor Aeternus. Then I had a coldwave/batcave/darkwave/deathrock phase. Then I started to enjoy Pagan and Folk Metal and it did last for a long time (mainly because of my interest for Norse mythology and mythologies in general). After that I mostly listened to atmospheric black metal and dark folk. And now I mostly enjoy listening to post-rock, shoegaze, dream-pop and whatever shit I enjoy listening to (I never was that good with music labels, too many of them, and I care less and less about it as I grow older). I don’t even know what I’m listening to anymore, the only thing I know is that I enjoy listening to it.
The point is, I don’t understand why people feel the need to identify with only one music genre or label themselves as goth/romantic goth/metalhead/viking nonsense/deathrocker and the like. I’m only 25 years old and I’ve listened to all of this. Music is freedom. Listen to what the hell you want, no matter what people around you say.
