hey, everybody!
no pressure or obligation to act on this, but my family is doing a really cool thing and i'm trying to spread the word about it!
a team of my cousins are preparing to run the berlin marathon together, and they're representing (and raising money for!) two substance abuse and addiction recovery organizations: Release Recovery in new york, and the High Watch Recovery Center in connecticut, where two of my family members currently work. we're all really proud of what they're doing, and i'm trying to do my bit to help out!
i linked my cousin sean's page above, he's come a long way down an incredibly difficult road of recovery so this cause is near and dear to his and all of our hearts. i'd also encourage reading my other cousins' pages as well! sparky's, john's, and katrina's are for High Watch too, while david's and bryan's are for Release Recovery.
if you wanted to send a single donation to be split evenly between them all, though, john has volunteered to organize that through his venmo @John-McGowan-6 to make it easier!!
again, obviously no pressure to donate, i know we're all basically passing the same $20 bill around in circles, but it's a really fantastic cause spearheaded by some genuinely good people in my family and i just want to do my best to get the word out for them - i would super appreciate it if anyone's willing to pitch in!

ALRIGHT IT'S FINISHED I MADE A CLERITH DRAWING
Tumblr media
I love them so much <3
This is probably the most complex thing i've drawn in my entire life. It took me... I think the program said like 16 hours. This originally started as just a doodle to try and draw two people together, since I never do that, then I thought "hey, it'd look cute if I made a little background" then one thing got to the other and... here we are.
It took me a lot to make the lighting and i'm still not 100% pleased with how it turned out, i wanted it to look more... sunsety? i think? but i would've never finished it if I kept overthinking it. Also I'm... happy with the result, it worked hard and I do like it.

please reblog this post with a character (or ship) and what song you associate with them!!
i don't mean like ''oh yeah this suits them'' (although you're free to name multiple songs and talk about why if you want to though! this is a character appreciation post foremost!!), but more something like every time you listen to that song now, even if you're not even in that fandom anymore, it will always be their song to you
i'll start with one that's been on my mind for ages, and that's huntlow and ''golden hour'' by JVKE

went to get my traditional “I am so jetlagged and need to consume A Dinner” meal (really good tenpura place that I adore) and the usual waitress wasn’t there (understandable, it has been four years) but it did mean that this guy legitimately tried to explain how to eat tenpura to me despite me multiple times saying that I speak Japanese, have been to Japan many times, and know how to eat tenpura

I've got a few post queued with my art thats up on my redbubble since they're having a sale this week ^-^
Honestly kinda bummed that so much of my warrior cats art got copyright struck after a while. A few remain but the sets are clearly broken up. I'm tempted to re-upload but I don't want further action. They were absolutely bestsellers, esp the galaxy riverclan logo for some reason lol
Anyway, I've got other Fandom stuff and some original work up there, so hopefully some of it is still appealing.

Saturday Six (Stuff)
The Dude (@super-ultra-mega-kami-guru-blog) comes home Monday night!( ´͈ ॢꇴ `͈ॢ)・*♡
I guess the kittehs have been good company. Leeloo has been a typical kitten aka a terror. (^・ω・^ )
As much as I don't want my parents to interfere in my business I do want my mom to ask her bestie, WTF, because I did an estimate for her and I have heard back and I need money like now. Mom said no, and rightfully so, but still, lol.(’-’*)
Speaking of parents, Mom asked me to come hang out at their old people gratitude dinner today. Umm, yeah no thanks. Once was enough. I'm fine hanging out with myself.٩(•̤̀ᵕ•̤́๑)ᵒᵏᵎᵎᵎᵎ
Seriously the worst part of being a small business person is worrying about money. We hates it.( •̀ω•́ )σ
And even though he's a jerk about it, Dad is helping me get tires on my car. That's one good thing, he'll always keep the car up. Though he still calls it "his" car. s(・`ヘ´・;)ゞ
Bonus: Happy End of Daylight Saving Time weekend! Tonight most of the USA imitates Cher and turns back time, the Standard clock. WHEEEE. (not fun. We hates the dark) (´~`)

So hey, those of you that have played through both Octo Expansion and Alterna, how do you feel like they compare in difficulty to each other? (I guess it might also be useful to compare 'difficulty to complete the main storyline' and 'difficulty to 100%' as separate categories, though I'm curious about either one.) The general impression that I have is that Octo is harder, which makes sense since it’s an expansion, but I don't really have a gauge on how much harder or which aspects of it are harder. So if you have any thoughts/anecdotes/experiences/comparisons you don’t mind sharing I’d love to hear them.

Nosy anon here, wondering if you perhaps have any snippets of your recent fic stuff that you'd like to share? Totally no worries if the answer is no though, of course! Only if you wanna. :)
As much as I do appreciate the enthusiasm, I don't think I'm feeling up to posting fanfic stuff again quite yet. I don't really have a particular reason to give as to why, just kind of not in that headspace as of right now, sorry... ┐(=w=;)┌ Maybe another day! Just not right now. Again, I still do really appreciate the love, though! <3

Someone just put exclusionist bullshit on my dash so:
.There is nothing bad about microlables, and they don't in any way prevent overarching queer solidarity and recognition of shared experiences just by virtue of existing. The entire point of including those labels is to make it clear they are /included/. It is intentional solidarity with them. That is the point. It's exclusionary rhetoric you're thinking of that prevents queer solidarity. (What microlabels do is help to enable people to talk about their specific experience within that microlable, and realize that there is that shared experience in the first place).
.Personal identities are just that, and if an individual for whatever reason wants to use two terms that seem to you to be contradictory, it's perfectly within their rights to do so (you are not the arbitrator of anyone else's identity. You almost certainly don't even know what their reasoning is, and either way they don't owe you an explanation about it in the first place. Yes this includes bi lesbians, and any other combination of identities you personally dislike). Words mean things, but their definitions are not rigid, least of all when they are used to describe something so complex and variable as personal identity. If someone is basing their identity on a word, they clearly have identified something about it that resonates with their personal experience, regardless of whether you, a random stranger, understand or relate to it.
.It is biphobic for someone to say bi people can only like two genders or can't like all genders or are transphobic for being bi; it is panphobic to say that pan people are biphobic, or transphobic, or homophobic for existing. Also, speaking of preventing solidarity, stop trying to pit bi and pan people against each other.
.criticism of a queer identity is not "rightful", and it being "well meant" or not is irrelevant. No they are not hurting you by existing. No they are not hurting the queer community by existing. They are also not being solipsistic just because they want a more specific word to describe and discuss their personal experiences. No matter how weird and unnecessary you personally think it is. Exclusionists like you, on the other hand, are doing an excellent job of trying to prevent solidarity with people who do use those labels.
.the comodification of pride is a problem. Microlables are not the impetus for that. You're thinking of capitalism.
.microlables are not the thing centering discussions in queer spaces around whether something is "valid". It /is/ usually exclusionist rhetoric like yours fueling the idea that it's a necessary discussion in the first place, though. ("Well intentioned" criticism of personal identities does tend to result in people responding that there's nothing wrong with their identity, actually)
. Queer people don't have to change how they present their identity to be more palatable to you, and it's queerphobic for you to expect or demand that they do. Yes even those ones. Fuck off.

I feel like venting a bit right now because I just remembered something that brought back some bad memories:
Being in like elementary/middle school (I can't remember which exactly) during the US travel ban with the Middle East, as a Persian kid, was... I'm not sure if I can say terrifying, but it was certainly stressful. Especially when a lot of the other kids in my class where like. conservative/in conservative families and obviously very pro-trump. I remember talking about it and complaining about it (though obviously I had a somewhat limited understanding since I was in like 5th/6th grade at the time) and them just defending it and it was so frustrating to sit through.
Like they wanted to keep out immigrants from Middle Eastern countries, and both my parents were immigrants from Iran. it felt really tense for me, and I was just a young kid who didn't even really understand why the ban was happening in the first place.
like I was just lucky that pretty much any family member I ever really interacted with lived outside of Iran because if they didn't then I would've been cut off from seeing them. I knew another Persian kid (his family and mine are friends) and I remember him talking about how his grandparents weren't able to visit him because of the travel ban. and yet I still had to deal with several classmates trying to justify it constantly. They didn't care.
It's making me feel sick just thinking about it. Like, especially since most of the kids who were like that also picked on me a lot later down the line (I'm not sure if it was specifically because I'm Persian, I was openly bi and had undiagnosed autism. I feel like it would've been easier to recognize if it was targeted at me for being Persian if there was like a concrete term for discrimination like that but I don't think there is one [it's not racism, we're considered white in the US, and xenophobia doesn't feel quite right to me 'cus it's defined as hatred of people from other countries and I was born in the USA).
I'm not sure if I'd exactly call it traumatic but it was definitely a deeply distressing experience at least.

while everyone's rightfully talking about oppenheimer and its flaws regarding the erasure of japanese and native american voices regarding nuclear testing and detonations, i'd like to bring up the fact that pacific islanders have also been severely impacted by nuclear testing under the pacific proving grounds, a name given by the US to a number of sites in the pacific that were designated for testing nuclear weapons after the second world war, at least 318 of which were dropped on our ancestral homes and people. i would like if more people talked about this.
important sections are bolded for ease of reading. i would appreciate this being reblogged since it's a bit alarming how few people know about this.
--
in 1946, the indigenous peoples of pikinni (the bikini atoll) were forcibly relocated off of their islands so that nuclear tests could be run on the atoll. at least 23 nuclear bombs were detonated on this inhabited island chain, including 20 hydrogen bombs. many pasifika were irreversibly irradiated, all of them were starved during multiple forced relocations, and the island chain is still unsafe to live on despite multiple cleanup attempts. there are several craters visible from space that were left on the atoll from nuclear testing.
the forced relocation was to several different small and previously uninhabited islands over several decades, none of which were able to sustain traditional lifestyles which directly lead to further starvation and loss of culture and identity. there is a reason that pacific islanders choose specific islands to inhabit including access to fresh water, food, shelter, cloth and fibre, climate, etc. and obviously none of these reasons were taken into account during the displacements.
200 pikinni were eventually moved back to the atoll in the 1970s but dangerous levels of strontium-90 were found in drinking water in 1978 and the inhabitants were found to have abnormally high levels of caesium-137 in their bodies.
--
i'm going to put the rest of this post under a readmore to improve the chances of this being reblogged by the general public. i would recommend you read the entirety of the post since it really isn't long and goes into detail about, say, entire islands being fully, utterly destroyed. like, wiped off of the map. without exaggeration, entire islands were disintegrated.
--
as i just mentioned, ānewetak (the eniwetok atoll) was bombed so violently that an entire island, āllokļap, was permanently and completely destroyed. an entire island. it's just GONE. the world's first hydrogen bomb was tested on this island. the crater is visibly larger than any of the islands next to it, more than a mile in diameter and roughly fifteen storeys deep. the hydrogen bomb released roughly 700 times the energy released during the bombing of hiroshima. this would, of course, be later outdone by other hydrogen bombs dropped on the pacific, reaching over 1000 times the energy released.
one attempt to clean up the waste on ānewetak was the construction of a large ~380ft dome, colloquially known as the tomb, on runit island. the island has been essentially turned into a nuclear waste dump where several other islands of ānewetak have moved irradiated soil to and, due to climate change, rising seawater is beginning to seep into the dome, causing nuclear waste to leak out. along with this, if a large typhoon were to hit the dome, there would be a catastrophic failure followed by a leak of nuclear waste into the surrounding land, drinking water, and ocean. the tomb was built haphazardly and quickly to cut costs.
hey, though, there's a plus side! the water in the lagoon and the soil surrounding the tomb is far more radioactive than the currently contained radioactive waste. a typhoon wouldn't cause (much) worse irradiation than the locals and ocean already currently experience, anyway! it's already gone to shit! and who cares, right, the only ""concern"" is that it will just further poison the drinking water of the locals with radioactive materials. this can just be handwaved off as a nonissue, i guess. /s
--
at least 36 bombs were detonated in the general vicinity of kiritimati (christmas island) and johnson atoll. while johnson atoll has seemingly never been inhabited by polynesians, kiritimati was used intermittently by polynesians (and later on, micronesians) for several hundred years. many islands in the pacific were inhabited seasonally and likewise many pacific islanders should be classified as nomadic but it has always been convenient for the goal of white supremacy and imperalism to claim that semi-inhabited areas are completely uninhabited, claimable pieces of terra nullius.
regardless of the current lack of inhabitants on these islands, the nuclear detonations have caused widespread ecological damage to otherwise delicate island ecosystems and have further spread nuclear fallout across the entirety of the pacific ocean.
--
while the marshall islands, micronesia, and the surrounding areas of melanesia and polynesia were (and still are) by far the worst affected by these atrocities, the entirety of the pacific has been irradiated to some extent due to ocean/wind currents freely spreading nuclear fallout through the water and air. all in all, at least 318 nuclear bombs were detonated across the pacific. i say "at least" because these are just the events that have been declassified and frankly? i wouldn't be shocked to find out they didn't stop there.
please don't leave the atomic destruction of the pacific out of this conversation. we've been displaced, irradiated, murdered, poisoned, and otherwise mass exterminated by nuclear testing on purpose and we are still suffering because of it. many of us have radiation poisoning, many of us have no safe ancestral home anymore. i cannot fucking state this enough, ISLANDS WERE DISINTEGRATED INTO NONEXISTENCE.
look, this isn't blaming people for not talking about us or knowing the extent of these issues, but it's... insidiously ironic that i haven't seen a single post that even mentions pacific islanders in a conversation about indigenous voices/voices of colour being ignored when it comes to nuclear tests and the devastation they've caused.
