#i'm talking about the drunk adora
Text
i'll forever be mad about how they took a traumatizing incident that happened to adora and played it off as a joke. and the fans just went along with it.

She-Ra cast as drinking buddies
Adora - She's great. Friendly and eager and up for anything. Hope you like to talk about horses, though. Try to keep her away from arm wrestling or that's what you're doing the rest of the evening.
Glimmer - She's an angry drunk. Or a happy drunk. Or a crying drunk. Or she challenges everyone in the bar on dart. Whatever she does, she'll do it with a hundred percent intensity. If someone picks a fight with you, you'll have to hold her back before she smashes a bottle and cuts a bitch.
Bow - He's everyones bestest buddie. He will pay for the drinks, listen to your rants, hold up your head over the toilet and help rain in Glimmer.
Catra - She's really guarded at first, but when the inhibitions drops either the claws or the tears come out. Step very carefully around her. Also, if she wants to have your jacket, it's her jacket now.
Scorpia - She's a delight. Friendly and considerate and a good listener. Although there is this feeling that she has some stuff of her own she's just dying to talk to someone about… if you open the floodgates, be prepared for a lot of tears and to listen for the next few hours.
Entrapta - Let's be honest - she won't listen to a word you say and she'll most likely have dismantled the beer pump and invented a new kind of drink before the evening is over, but you won't be bored.
Mermista - Surprisingly good company, once you get past the attitude. Keeps the drinks coming and have some good stories between all the 'Uuuuuughs'.
Sea Hawk - Life of the party. Shanties and drinks and arm wrestling. It's fun to have fun with frieeeeeends. Will probably have set something on fire and got you kicked out (unrelated incidents) before the evening is over, and never shuts up about Mermiiiiiiiista.
Swift Wind (did someone say Swift Wind?) - Pair him with Adora or Sea Hawk and no net amount of brain cells will have been added to the party. Up for anything and a good sport, though. Expect singing.
Perfuma - Friendly and considerate and works really hard to be a good listener, but if you just want a drink and some chit-chats rather than a group therapy session she's a bit too much. Try to appeal to her inner theatre kid to channel her energies into something more entertaining.
Netossa - PUT THE JÄGERMEISTER AWAY! EVERYTHING DOESN'T NEED TO BE A COMPETITION!
Spinnerella - The team mom makes sure everyone has a good time and stays hydrated.
Frosta - Thinks it's super unfair that she isn't allowed to drink. Still, if you get her to settle down in the juice bar she can be tons of fun.
Castaspella - Fruit drinks and party hats for everyone! Better step up your game, because everyone's friendly wine aunt won't let anyone be bored.
Shadow Weaver - The drinks are bad and the atmosphere is worse and you are beneath her notice. If you can get through her barrage of insults and appeal to her pride, she has the best stories though. Don't expect to come out of it unscarred.
Hordak - He will sit stiff, uncomfortable and completely silent for three drinks, and then he will speak in monotone voice with increasing amount of rage about the injustices he has suffered. Someone might die before the night is over, but it will sure be memorable
Horde Prime - Wonderful company - if your idea of a good time is hearing a narcisist yap on about himself and demand your constant attention. Otherwise, prepare to have a lousy time. Don't leave your drinks alone with him at any time.
Wrong Hordak - LOOK BROTHER, I'M PARTAKING! chugs beer LOOK, BROTHER! DO YOU SEE ME PARTAKE?
Imp - WHO LET THAT LITTLE SHIT INTO THE BAR? Good luck catching him when he zooms around the ceiling.
Emily - I'll be honest, I didn't know robots could drink. Neither did I know they can DISCO, but Emily proves me wrong on both counts.
Angella - Good luck getting her to settle down and relax. No, Angella, the fact that you heard a siren doesn't mean Glimmer has set something on fire (we hope, at least). Has no idea how the social codes are supposed to work, but likes to feel included.
Micah - At home in any company and a great listener. If you're lucky you'll get some stories out of him that will start with "Oh, it's nothing special. We all have that evil teacher that tricked you into helping her kill the entire senior faculty, right?" and spirals from there.
Juliet - The royal guard is never off duty. She might haul you off to cool down if you get too rowdy, but that's it.
Rogelio - Great listener, but not that good a conversationalist.
Kyle - Goddamit, Kyle!
Lonnie - Yes, Lonnie, you can drink more than me. Yes, Lonnie, you can arm wrestle me. No, Lonnie, I wasn't trying to start any shit with Kyle. Sorry, Lonnie, I'll stay out of your way.
Double Trouble - "Hey, you know what would be REALLY funny. If you distract the bartender, I'll… do a thing. No, don't worry about it. Just a thing. It will be funny."
Huntara - Two rules in the Crimson Waste, where one is not to disturb her as she drinks. If you're on her in-list, prepare to have a good time. If you're not, step carefully around her.
Tung Lashor - Sometimes all you want is someone to chug beer and shout the refrains to some stupid songs with. Just keep him away from cats.
Octavia - You know what, better keep her away from cats as well.

i just read sharp objects and i want to talk about it but like where to even START
in the back of my mind i am percolating a comparison between gillian flynn and vc andrews, which might not make sense to anyone but me. the generational trauma, the behind-closed-doors horror, the power in sexuality. vc andrews wrote about the unique, indescribable rage experienced by teenage girls exploring their bodies and sexuality in a deeply patriarchal society; gillian flynn writes about women in their 30s, those abused and angry girls all grown up and dangerous. both an exploration of a facet of women's inner lives that feels very difficult to explain and which is rarely explored in other media
anyway wow the generational trauma. joya abused adora, who became a teen mother and abused all three of her daughters. when amma was born, camille was about the same age that adora was when camille was born, and there's this weird sister-child-friend-enemy dynamic camille has with amma. none of them ever learned how to love each other, or themselves. camille turned her anger inward and destroyed her body; adora poisoned marian her whole life and finally killed her; amma mutilated the bodies of her classmates for her dollhouse. what the fuck is even going ON with these people
i still need to read dark places but between gone girl and sharp objects, i am fascinated by gillian flynn's take on these adult women's sexuality. amy does not seem to enjoy sex much at all except for the power it gives her over men; she thinks derisively about nick's desire, desi's, the appeal of girls like andie; she (and camille) talks about sex in kind of a clinical, detached way, the smell, the stickiness, this very open and raw but entirely un-sexy way. camille blames herself for being gang-raped at fourteen while drunk, but locks her various traumas so deep that even thinking about the event sounds like she's talking about someone else (and to willis, she is). sex is power and control, it's about using other people by letting them use you. it's gross. it's intimate. as someone with some... issues around sex, myself, i could see why it would rub people the wrong way but i found it oddly refreshing, in the way i find gallows humor to be funny
gillian flynn said in an ama that she wrote sharp objects as an exploration of female generational violence, a subject considerably less explored than male cyclical violence (no one is writing the all-woman atreus house, for example). her protagonists are ruthless, crass, secretive, kind of cold, unflinching in the face of monstrosity. amy notices that nick's hands still smell like andie after a hookup and thinks "she must have one rank pussy"; camille carves the word "clit" on herself and only later changes it to "cAt". vulnerability might exist for them, but it's buried so far down that even first-person narration can barely touch it
i feel like it's rare to see female protagonists like these that aren't given much justification or redemption and that aren't... i don't know, given masculine traits? like how in movies, women only know about cars bc they have five brothers, and they prove they're "cool" by having lots of sex, drinking heavily, always being "game" i mean god i'm so sick of it all. run cool_girl_monologue.exe. the violence that women do to each other and themselves can be horrific on its own. i don't think you could gender-swap these stories and change nothing else, they're about WOMEN
anyway gone girl was already one of my favorite books and sharp objects was unreal good, i need to watch the miniseries and read dark places

Partner Swap AU
This one started out as a running gag on Discord but we've talked about it so much I feel like one of us is going to have to crack and actually write it eventually. Posting for the prompt, Totally OOC But Hear Me Out…
This would be your classic broad bedroom style farce but set in the modern day and the bit here is basically all the couples start out wrong and we end up with the canon couples by the end.
Adora and Glimmer accidentally hook up while drunk. They both realize it was a mistake but before they can talk about it, Bow (he lives with Glimmer) walks in. He freaks out, runs. Glimmer chases after him, but can't find him and has to leave for a business trip the next morning. Before she leaves, she calls Adora and tries to explain that she loves Adora like a friend but she loves Bow, but the bad call reception leave Adora with the mistaken impression that Glimmer loves her.
Considering it her duty now to stay with Glimmer so her friend isn't sad, Adora convinces herself she'd be happy with Glimmer... even though she knows there's no passion there like there was with her ex.
While Glimmer is gone, Bow confronts Adora. Adora knew he was in love with Glimmer and he considers it a betrayal that she'd hook up with her. Adora feels guilty but doubles down rather than admit it. Glimmer has free will to hook up with whoever she wants, she says, and, besides, it's his own fault for not acting on his feelings sooner. They fight and Bow decides to be petty and get revenge on Adora sleeping with the love of his life by... sleeping with her brother.
Adam, for his part, is perfectly happy to be part of this scheme as he's looking for a distraction while he nurses what he assumes are unrequited feelings for his friend Teela. Adora, however, is furious at this development (especially since she lives with her brother so there's no escaping the Bowdam hook ups) and decides to get her own revenge. She places a call to Scorpia asking her to find someone to ask out Teela, hoping to make her brother so jealous he ends things with Bow.
Scorpia agrees and calls up on old friend to seduce Teela... Adora's ex Catra.
(And I'm not going to say how it all turns out just in case I write it eventually but it's safe to say we're headed for canon couples endgame, obviously, but there would be a lot of silly antics on the road to getting there.)

Okay so I HAD to make another one of these because I am chronically consuming media like a good little cog in a capitalist machine and there are so many ships I love and Taylor songs that represent them so well so get ready for…..
MORE of My Fav Ships + Taylor Swift Songs
(general, non-specific version)
1. Catradora—Catra x Adora (She-Ra)
Tumblr media
The Archer— Lover
“Combat, I'm ready for combat
I say I don't want that, but what if I do?
'Cause cruelty wins in the movies
I've got a hundred thrown-out speeches I almost said to you”
“I never grew up, it's getting so old
Help me hold onto you”
“I've been the archer,
I've been the prey
Screaming, who could ever leave me, darling?
But who could stay?
(I see right through me, I see right through me)”
“All the king's horses, all the king's men
Couldn't put me together again
'Cause all of my enemies started out friends”
“Who could stay?
You could stay
You could stay
You”
2. Rae x Finn (My Mad Fat Diary)
Tumblr media
Gorgeous— Reputation
“You should take it as a compliment
That I got drunk and made fun of the way you talk
You should think about the consequence
Of your magnetic field being a little too strong”
“You're so cool, it makes me hate you so much (I hate you so much)”
“And you should think about the consequence
Of you touching my hand in the darkened room (dark room, dark room)
If you've got a girlfriend, I'm jealous of her
But if you're single that's honestly worse
'Cause you're so gorgeous it actually hurts
(Honey, it hurts)”
“Whisky on ice, Sunset and Vine
You've ruined my life, by not being mine
You're so gorgeous
I can't say anything to your face
'Cause look at your face”
3. Wilmon—Wilhelm x Simon (Young Royals)
Tumblr media
Daylight— Lover
“I don't wanna look at anything else now that I saw you
I don't wanna think of anything else now that I thought of you
I've been sleeping so long in a 20-year dark night
And now I see daylight, I only see daylight”
“Luck of the draw only draws the unlucky
And so I became the butt of the joke
I wounded the good and I trusted the wicked
Clearing the air, I breathed in the smoke”
“I once believed love would be (burning red)
But it's golden
Like daylight, like daylight
Like daylight, daylight”
4. Willex—Will x Alex (Julie and The Phantoms)
Tumblr media
This Love— 1989
“Clear blue water
High tide came and brought you in
And I could go on and on, on and on, and I will
Skies grew darker
Currents swept you out again
And you were just gone and gone, gone and gone”
“Your kiss, my cheek
I watched you leave
Your smile, my ghost
I fell to my knees
When you're young, you just run
But you come back to what you need”
“This love is good
This love is bad
This love is alive back from the dead, oh, oh, oh
These hands had to let it go free, and
This love came back to me, oh, oh, oh”
5. Leatin—Leah x Fatin (The Wilds)
Tumblr media
Peace— Folklore
“Our coming-of-age has come and gone
Suddenly the summer, it's clear
I never had the courage of my convictions
As long as danger is near
And it's just around the corner, darling
'Cause it lives in me
No, I could never give you peace”
“And you know that I'd swing with you for the fences
Sit with you in the trenches
Give you my wild, give you a child
Give you the silence that only comes when two people understand each other”
“But there's robbers to the east, clowns to the west
I'd give you my sunshine, give you my best
But the rain is always gonna come if you're standing with me”
6. Nick x Charlie (Heartstopper)
Tumblr media
Jump Then Fall— Fearless
“I like the way you sound in the morning
We're on the phone and without a warning
I realize your laugh is the best sound
I have ever heard”
“Every time you smile, I smile
And every time you shine, I'll shine for you”
“The bottom's gonna drop out from under our feet
I'll catch you, I'll catch you
When people say things that bring you to your knees
I'll catch you
The time is gonna come when you're so mad you could cry
But I'll hold you through the night until you smile”
7. Shara x Chloe (I Kissed Shara Wheeler)
—I couldn’t find a gif because its a BOOK please don’t make fun of me😭—
Tumblr media
Long Story Short— Evermore
“And I fell from the pedestal
Right down the rabbit hole
Long story short, it was a bad time
Pushed from the precipice
Clung to the nearest lips
Long story short, it was the wrong guy”
“Actually
I always felt I must look better in the rear view
Missing me
At the golden gates they once held the keys to
When I dropped my sword
I threw it in the bushes and knocked on your door
And we live in peace
But if someone comes at us
This time, I'm ready”
“No more keepin' score now
I just keep you warm (keep you warm)
No more tug of war now
I just know there's more (know there's more)”
“Now I'm all about you (and now)
I'm all about you, ah (and now)
I'm all about you (and now)”

talking about toh | season two, episode nine: "eclipse lake"
i need to stop procrastinating on these.
previous | first | next (notice of discontinuation) spoilers under the cut
the beginning
to be honest, i wasn't really paying much attention to the book at the very beginning, but according to other fans it looks like hunter is something called a "grimwalker". i am utterly terrified for the implications here, and for whatever belos has planned for hunter.
it looks like belos is putting the abomatrons to good use. i think it's really cool how every episode seems to connect in some way (for example, the book on grimwalkers mentions that making one requires palistrom wood (which is something luz happens to carry around in her bag) and a galderstone (the stones bria and her crew tried to steal). this show is really good at setting up things that could potentially be important later.
it looks like hunter is still trying to get his palisman to leave him alone. he hasn't accepted that he's been chosen.
we finally got to see belos's face. apparently he's the new tumblr sexyman. that's... fun.
belos has been to the human realm before? is that because he lived there hundreds of years ago? did his ancestors? did he visit it at some point? how?
i seriously feel bad for hunter. he's trying to hard to make himself useful, to prove himself to belos.
the plot
it was really cool to see hooty, amity, willow, king, and gus all working together to take care of things in the house. the fact that we never see them go home implies that they either live in the owl house now, or they visit frequently. or maybe they're all just here for luz this one time, but i like my ideas better.
we got to meet amity's palisman! a cat is so fitting for her, and ghost is adorable. i love him.
amity walking in on eda screaming made me laugh more than i'd care to admit. i love eda so much.
the dragonball-z reference was really funny to me, even though i don't watch anime. at all. literally, i saw some of the demon slayer movie and that's it.
sick luz reminds me of infected adora (aka "drunk adora") from she-ra and the princesses of power. they have the same energy.
i thought it was cute that amity had a lil abomination in luz's room to look after her. she really cares about her gf.
i can't believe it took me an entire week to realize the "common mold" is a pun on the "common cold". goddamnit, owl crew.
while eating the portal key probably wouldn't return luz to the human realm, what would consuming titan's blood do? would it make her into an actual witch, since it's basically magic blood? wait, is that was witches are? humans who ingested titan's blood (either by mistake or on purpose)?
i'm sure everyone already knew this, but the message luz sent amity said "u r pretty". that's precious.
the cat tomogachi things are adorable. i wonder if they work if they're in different realms? that way luz and amity could text each other even when luz is with her mom. what i'm saying is, long-distance lumity.
amity constantly calling herself luz's girlfriend is hilarious, but also very relatable. i've been in a relationship for--[checks calendar] holy shit, for almost nine months!-- and i still do this.
eda still calls gus "goops"!
what is the captain's relationship with kikimora? i feel like they're somehow related.
i wonder if hunter and amity have met before. he seems to recognize her.
i think hunter deserves to ramble about his findings without interruption. poor guy never gets to talk about it.
damn, amity's powerful! she's gotten even stronger than when we first saw her.
willow is the tired mom friend. someone give her a break.
hunter being referred to as "a bad but sad boy" made me laugh a little too much. it's not wrong.
between lilith, hunter, and kikimora, i'm convinced that nobody in the emperor's coven is mentally stable.
i felt so bad for amity when she thought luz would break up with her if she didn't find the titan's blood. she would never do that, of course, but it must have been terrifying for her.
look at this picture of eda and king. i love them both so much.
Tumblr media
hunter is really good at deception. he managed to get amity to free him, before slowing her down and running away. can't say i approve, but i have to applaud his quick wit.
the captain reminds me of scorpia from she-ra and the princesses of power. the undying loyalty to her commander, no matter how unstable... it's a parallel i can't help but make.
harpy eda returns! i will never not love her design.
there are minecart chase video games on the isles?
i noticed that king perched himself on amity's shoulder, like he does with luz all the time. dunno if that was intentional, but it was cute.
as sad as it is that hunter is ready to die after failing at his mission, it's also way too much of a mood. stop booing me, i'm right.
honestly, it was strangely sweet that hunter offered to make amity a grave too. he could have just let her make her own.
this is your daily reminder than hunter seriously needs help.
luz's secret messages were probably my favorite part of the episode. it's so in character for her, and just so cute.
i think we need to take a moment to appreciate the fact that amity's holding the tomogachi thing to her heart. that's so cute. also, another adorable amity smile.
Tumblr media
ii feel like hunter's palisman is somewhat representative of his morality. it tries to push him in the right direction, even if he doesn't always listen.
the fight scene was beautifully animated. the animators of this show never cease to amaze me.
it's so important to me that amity only got scared when hunter threatened luz. she's really determined to protect her.
i thought it was adorable how luz's first reaction to everyone getting home is to hug amity. someone missed her gf, huh?
speaking of which, luz calling amity her "awesome girlfriend" was easily the cutest moment in the whole episode. amity called herself that until hunter made her realize that maybe luz didn't think that. but she did, and it's adorable.
amity seriously came in clutch with the titan's blood. what would the others do without her.
the ending
hunter's bonding with his palisman! he went from shooing it away to being happy to see it. i love that.
i'm very curious as to what the palisman's name is. i hope we find out.
i don't have any predictions for the next episode, since i've already seen it, so that's gonna be all. hope y'all enjoyed!

when do you think theyll make hawkdemetri canon; in s4 or later (assuming it goes to 6 seasons)? i think the romantic aspects of their relationship will be empathized more clearly in s4 (hawk's jealousy of yasmime, their deep understanding and love for each other, etc) but they won't officially get together until the fifth season, leaving the last one to explore them figuring out how to go public and all that. or or i was thinking they do get together in s4 but due to the cobras threatening demetri or smth like that, they break up shortly after and don't get back together until the s5 or 6 finale. i feel like i'm being bold bc nothings set in stone but w what jon and hayden liked/rted im just ahhh!! so excited!!
Oh man, are we actually doing this now??? Are we actually discussing when Hawkmetri would hypothetically go canon???
Tumblr media
EH, FUCK IT
IF SHE-RA WENT THROUGH WITH IT MAYBE IT ISN’T A MERE GAY KARATE PIPE DREAM
I personally see them making Hawk/Demetri an endgame pairing, so they wouldn’t officially get together until close to the end of the series--maybe even IN the series finale (which, as I believe I mentioned in one of my other posts, I would strongly prefer to be the kids’ senior prom, where a giant karate fight breaks out and everyone has to battle in tuxes and dresses because it would be HILARIOUSLY AWESOME). I think they might do it like She-Ra did Catradora, where they don’t confess their love and get together until the last (or close to the last) episode (Ah, She-Ra spoilers, I guess...but anyone who doesn’t know by now that Catra and Adora end up together has been living under a rock XD) but there’s LOTS of ship tease prior and maybe even a stolen kiss/hand-hold or two leading up to that moment. Either way, if they decide to go the Hawkmetri route, it definitely has Endgame Ship vibes to me, which means...good news is, we’re gonna win this bitch, and bad news is, I don’t think we’ll be seeing Hawkmetri proper anytime soon, especially if the show goes on for 6+ seasons D: But hey, we sure as hell have something to look forward to, if our hope isn’t totally misplaced!
I think most likely Demetri and Yasmine will date throughout Season 4, and I can see the writers using this to give Hawk a “green-eyed epiphany” of sorts, where he realizes he’s jealous of Yasmine in slightly more than a you’re-hanging-out-with-my-best-friend-more-than-me kind of way, and he’s just like “...oh fuck, am I gay? Shit shit SHIT” and cue Big Boi Angst! Probably by Season 5 Dem and Yaz will be broken up (because ain’t no one telling me a relationship founded on wedgies lasts more than one goddamn season), and that’s when we’ll start getting a lot more ship tease with Demetri and Hawk--subtle touches, a bit of hand-holding (but, of course, they’d find a way to do it in contexts where they can get away with it lol), “friendship teasing” that’s basically flirting, longing gazes when the other isn’t looking, getting a little TOO contact-happy when they spar--that kinda deal. Maybe at the end of Season 5, they’ll share a kiss, but they won’t want to address it or it’ll come with some complication. Like they’re both drunk, or maybe one kisses the other and then doesn’t want to talk about it afterwards because they’re too embarrassed, etc etc. And they’re both trying to figure out if everyone’s even going to be cool with them being gay anyways.
Season 6 I see as being more or less the same thing, with lots of ship tease and mutual pining and such, but it’s a bit more intense now and kinda complicated by the fact that they’re more directly aware of their affection for each other being romantic and they’re both trying to come to terms with the fact that they’re definitely probably not straight. They’re also slowly realizing they’re full-on in love with each other too, and they’re both trying to work up the courage to just ask the other to be with them. And then at the end of the season they finally do it, and then go to Karate Prom together!!! The madlads!!!
GRANTED, I’m REALLY trying not to get my own hopes up about all this, BUT the fact that one of the show creators liked someone’s tweet asking if Hawk and Demetri were gonna be the LGBT rep and another creator straight-up RETWEETING Hawk x Demetri fanart is...admittedly very promising!!! I’m really really hoping beyond hope that this ship happens!!! But Korrasami happened, Catradora happened...so anything is possible!!! It’s certainly easier to make a gay ship with semi-major characters canon than it used to be. I just hope the homophobic side of the Cobra Kai fanbase doesn’t mess this up for us by bitching about “PC” LGBT representation to the showrunners or something :/ Man...it’s honestly kind of alarming to see the amount of people who seem against shipping Hawk and Demetri solely because...they’re both guys??? Like people really be like “UGH these two guys are PLATONIC FRIENDS why must you make it GAY???” As if anyone in the history of EVER has said “UGH this guy and this girl are PLATONIC FRIENDS why must you make it STRAIGHT???” because...they’re already “defaulted” to be straight :/ Sigh...this is the depressing world we live in, I guess.
Fingers still crossed for Hawk x Demetri, though!!! Let’s make it canon through the Power of Karate!!!
Man I am on a ROLL tonight, I can’t fuckin sleep so instead I’m in my askbox shitposting about the binary boyfriends nonstop XD 3 asks in one night, babeyyyyy!

Catra's season 4 outfit gives me Shadow Weaver vibes - her right arm is covered while the left one is not. Just like SW has her poncho thingy wrapped only around her right arm. I don't know maybe I'm reaching but if she is trying to become some evil tyrant, she is probably emulating The evil she knows. What do you think?
Oh season 4 Catra is all kinds of vibing with Shadow Weaver. I actually have a lot to say about this that plays in with my “Catra isn’t a pretty abuse victim” meta, so buckle up lol.
Let’s start with a quote from Shadow Weaver:
“You remind me of myself. You always have.”
Yes, I know she was trying to manipulate Catra and try to show that they’re similar and Catra should help her, but that doesn’t automatically make it a lie. Catra is a lot like Shadow Weaver from her Light Spinner days - she wanted more power, she wanted to challenge the Horde, and no one would listen to her. Catra’s often in the same position of being overlooked or ignored, partially by Shadow Weaver’s doing, but it’s implied that people in the Horde don’t really think much of Catra until she becomes Force Captain, something she’d resigned herself to because of Adora.
Shadow Weaver seeing herself in Catra would also explain a lot about her treatment of Catra. Because she knows what lengths she went to for power, and Catra is fully capable of doing the same. How do you stop someone from seeking power? You put them down, you force them into situations they can’t win (like competing with Adora), you demean them, you make sure they never think they can accomplish anything. And Shadow Weaver did a damn good job at that until Hordak put the badge in Catra’s hand.
And just like Shadow Weaver, Catra eventually hits rock bottom. The fact that this is also because of Shadow Weaver is being put aside for now. Catra reaches a point where she has nothing left to lose, pushing her into her own position of “do this thing that’s dangerous and literally no one wants you to do” - pulling the lever.
Again, parallels here. Catra was disfigured in the portal, Shadow Weaver was disfigured using the spell of obtainment. Catra’s wasn’t permanent, thankfully, but she still covers up the reminder with the sleeve on her arm, just like Shadow Weaver covers herself to hide what the spell of obtainment did to her. Which is the answer to what you actually asked, but I’m going to keep going, if you don’t mind.
Catra definitely displays some very Shadow Weaver-esque behavior in season four, very much following the example of evil that she’s seen, with the yelling and verbal abuse at someone who sees her as an important figure in her life (Shadow Weaver was a parental figure to Catra, Catra was a best friend to Scorpia, in Scorpia’s mind), but I think the lowest point for Catra is when she literally repeats Shadow Weaver’s behavior, right down to her words, when she’s yelling at Lonnie, Kyle, and Rogelio 4x12:
“Get out!”
Yes, I know they’re common words, but the context of the scene is what, to me, parallels it with Shadow Weaver yelling at Adora and Catra in Promises. Catra’s backed up into the shadows, literally shrouded in darkness, yelling at people who at the very least used to be her squadmates (I believe Kyle thinks they were friends, but the reality of that statement is debatable), and threatening them. It seems oddly similar to the scene in Promises, doesn’t it? Catra’s finally risen to power, just like Shadow Weaver did. But she’s not happy. Because unlike Shadow Weaver, power was never what she wanted. But Shadow Weaver put the idea in her head, just like she gaslighted Adora in 1x01: “Is this not what you've wanted since you were old enough to want anything?” But Catra’s happiness is a discussion for another time.
Shadow Weaver basically built a perfect cycle of abuse with Catra - she abused Catra, who then went on to emulate her abuser by repeating all her actions and mistakes. Left unchecked, Catra probably would have just spiraled further down that hole of misery.
But Catra breaks the cycle. She makes a conscious choice to do “one good thing” in her life, with every intention of dying on Horde Prime’s ship. And when she doesn’t die, she actively works on being a better person. Which does not go unnoticed by Shadow Weaver, who tries to pull Catra back down to her level:
“At least you admit she’s evil.” “You’re one to talk, aren’t you?”
But Catra has Adora to hold her back now, to keep her grounded. And Shadow Weaver is alone in her little abuse circle. The girls she raised have teamed up and turned on her, there’s no place for her in the Rebellion, no place in the Horde, no place in Etheria.
Which leads us to Shadow Weaver sacrificing herself. Actually, rewind back to her arguing with Catra in the Whispering Woods and basically repeating the Glimmer/Catra scene on Prime’s ship:
“Do something good with [magic] for once and help me save Adora before it’s too late!”
And Shadow Weaver actually listens. Sure, this is her chance to go out as “a hero”, but her presence there at all is because of Catra. If Shadow Weaver had her way, she’d have been getting wine drunk back at the rebellion cave. But Catra dragged her out, Catra backed her into a corner, and Catra made her do something. Catra proved that she could actually rise above Shadow Weaver’s abuse and be a better person.
Which brings me back to another Shadow Weaver quote:
“It's too late for me. But you, this is only the beginning for you.”
Again, probably just her trying to be manipulative one last time, but I think there’s some truth to the words. Shadow Weaver has always been self-serving and thinking about ways to save herself, screw everyone else. But she knows there’s nowhere for her in a post-war world, so what the hell, might as well go out with a bang. Alternatively, she could’ve just left Catra to die (as one might expect), and harness the power of the Heart while she was right there, alone with it, and just run. I’m sure she could’ve found a way to make herself an appealing asset to Horde Prime, at least long enough to get off Etheria and find another planet to terrorize with her newfound powers.
And I know people are going to argue and say she was straight up being manipulative, but to what end? I absolutely believe her final words were a mind fuck - the “you’re welcome” combined with taking off her mask and showing her true face pretty much screamed “this is who she really is, don’t forget that.” It’s the “It’s too late for me” that gets me. She is fully recognizing that she has fucked up beyond repair, and not at all apologetic about it, but she also proceeds to go back on the earlier parallels she drew between herself and Catra. Catra hasn’t fucked up beyond repair yet. Catra broke the cycle. Catra had a chance at a new life, better than the one she had in the Horde, and a chance to be a better person. “This is only the beginning for you” might be the most sincerest words she ever said, to the person she was so sure she had broken.
Wow this got way off track. Anyway, yeah, I think there are some clear parallels between Catra, especially in season four, and Shadow Weaver. And it’s fascinating to think about how that dynamic plays out.

Going in blind: Watching season 2 for the first time. Random thoughts.
Tumblr media
Huh. Only 7 episodes. Not complaining necessarily. For series with an ongoing plot I've definitely become more in favor with their seasons only having as many episodes as they need rather than them having to stretch themselves out to full up a certain number of episodes, which can lead to padding and just bad character moments.
Episode 1: Jeez. Catra visiting Shadow Weaver's cell just to rub her success in her face and verbally abuse her back for once. It's like a twisted version of Zuko and Ozai from ATLA. Catra's upbringing under her was abusive but this is far from a healthy way for her to deal with it. She's basically deliberately swimming in her resentment.
Episode 2: It's not that I'm rooting for her but by-golly was it fun to watch Catra act like just the absolute worst she could while she was Glimmer and Bow's captive.
I touched on this in season 1 but part of the drama of the heroes feeling guilt over leaving Entrapta behind is kind of lost on me a bit simply because it was her own fault it happened. She deliberately went back into the purge room because of her machine obsession, which then closed on her and erupted in flames. It was more than reasonable to assume she was dead and no one but her was to blame, so I'm not really able to be invested in their guilt over it.
That said, weirdly enough I do like that her "abandonment" doesn't seem to be even a blip on the radar for Entrapta herself. She hasn't joined the horde because she resents the heroes or felt left behind, she simply is so obsessed with machines and experimentation that she'll be on the side of whoever lets her do the most of that. Like, it's selfish and irresponsible but it's very in-character and I'd far rather have a traitor motivation be based in that over something stupid like a misunderstanding.
Episode 3: I love the mental image of Shadow Weaver thinking up princess-themed ghost stories to tell Adora as a child.
So, if the previous She-Ra Mara separated Eternia from the other realms/planets/whatever she did and that's what cut off the She-Ra line for 1000 years, I'm guessing Hordak may be from the time before that happened, thus his drive to create portals and calling Eternia a backwards world. Either he's naturally long-lived or his technology is extending his life.
Episode 4: You know, you could maybe argue it was vague enough that it could be taken other ways but I'm definitely getting some vibes here that Scorpia is crushing on Catra. She literally refers to the two of them as soulmates at one point. I know she says she's trying to be friends but this feels a level beyond that.
Fun little reference to the original She-Ra cartoon thrown in there (and maybe Cowboy Bebop...? James Bond...? What was Glimmer's art style supposed to be?). I like how it is more like just playful ribbing than anything outright dumping on the original. Again, I've never seen original She-Ra but whenever remakes/adaptations go out of their way to trash to the original I always kind of wonder why they bothered doing an adaptation if the original is just that bad? Also, I was having trouble sleeping so it was about 2am when I watched this episode and the very Eartha Kitt Catwoman Catra made it very difficult for me not to lose my **** and stay quiet. With how much of a contrast that version is from the one in this series, that was hilarious. Bonus note, it's a nice touch that Frosta's version of Catra is a pretty crasher in that sweet suit, since that's the only impression of Catra she's ever had.
Adora being a chosen one is definitely elevated up simply by how much the pressure of what she's supposed to be is getting to her. I'm likely going to keep making Avatar The Last Airbender comparisons throughout the series but that's partly because I went into this series figuring it'd be at least structured similar to ATLA (season 1 being more episodic and a little more kid-friendly as it builds up the world before getting more serious later). Adora and Aang are interesting to compare here. Aang's worries early on were less apparent because he was more in-denial/choosing not to think about his problems that much, which fit with his character as a free-spirited Air Nomad. While Adora is much more military-minded. She can't keep herself from thinking about her problems and trying to prepare for the worst-case scenario. And jeez, that idea of who/how Catra is in her mind. Not only beating her but making her watch as she takes everything she cares about away. Not Shadow Weaver, not Lord Hordak, but Catra. That whole Lion King Mufasa/Scar moment between them in episode 11 and their fight in the S1 finale really did a number on her mental image of her old friend. Not reasonably so.
Minor note: I'm sure I'm the only one who got this impression but by the look of it, the way the robot's eye moved, and the music, after getting the soda spilled on it that little spybot gained sentience for half a second and then immediately died. It was so darkly comedic I had to laugh.
Episode 5: So that red disc is basically She-Ra's Red Kryptonite, having an effect on the mind rather than the body. The drunk Adora joke doesn't really do it for me but it did get some nice interactions going between Scorpia and Sea Hawk, two characters I certainly wasn't expecting to bond. I did really like Catra's panic when berserker She-Ra nearly beheads her. The implication is that is Adora really wanted to kill her Catra would already probably be dead. It's a thing I like about powerhouse characters like Superman or Aang, who could just demolish everything around them and don't simply because they're a good person...which in turn makes them the scariest person on the planet when they're well and truly ticked off. I'm not going to lie, I do kind of want to see a She-Ra version of Aang when Appa was stolen or when Superman fought The Elite.
Also, Catra's line of "I have control over Adora. I'm not giving that up for anything.". There's a lot to read into there.
Episode 6: I guess my prediction was sort of right. Shadow Weaver became basically a magic parasite and while it did increase the power she's capable of the implication seems to be that she needs a constant fix of magic to keep herself going, thus her attachment to the Black Garnet.
Have we seen Micah before? Given how long ago the flashback seems set, the fact that Shadow Weaver didn't kill him and thus he probably becomes someone important later in life, I'm guessing he's Glimmer's dad and the queen's late husband, since I think he's the only important male character whose face we haven't seen yet. Also, he's voice by Ezra from Star Wars Rebels and that cracks me up for some reason. It's the exact same voice and a relatively similar character.
I compared Catra and Shadow Weaver with a kind of twisted version of Zuko and Ozai and that definitely still fits here. Both Catra and Zuko confront their parent and call them out for the inexcusable abuse they put them through but while that moment was the start of Zuko's upwards journey this and SW's betrayal seems like it's going to cause Catra to spiral even further. Makes sense why Adora leaving affected her so much. She's probably the only one Catra's ever had that she could consistently trust and rely on, even if she did somewhat resent her.
Not surprised Hordak is getting along with Entrapta. She's not socially aware enough to be scared or intimidated by him, so she'll speak frankly, and since all she wants to talk about is the machines, experiments, and how they could get them to work Hordak probably doesn't take much issue with that. She's producing results, which is what he cares about, thus also why Shadow Weaver and Catra started losing favor with him. I wonder if Catra is going through imposter syndrome? Shadow Weaver had that line that Entrapta earned her place next to Hordak and, if you think about it, Catra hasn't really "earned" anything. We saw that she didn't really take her training or studies that seriously, showing up late to combat practice and even getting partial credit for what Adora beat. She wasn't promoted to Force Captain because of her own abilities but because Adora had defected when she was supposed to get that title. She's come close to a few victories but never really had any except for Glimmer and Bow's kidnapping...whom she then basically let escape when she returned Adora's sword to her. She doesn't have the slightest clue how the horde's bureaucracy works when trying to get things done, like simply getting troops armor. Given how much better than her Adora always was and how little she herself has to her name, I wonder is subconsciously Catra believes she doesn't deserve her current position and thus why she's fretting so much over trying to prove herself.
Episode 7: Am I mistaken or did Bow's parents say that he's the youngest of TWELVE siblings? I was going to ask whether Bow was adopted or if his dad's used a surrogate or if maybe there's even just simply magic in She-Ra's world that allows two people of the same sex to have a child together but now I'm just focused on the 12 kids thing. I get nervous just imagining myself having more than one. You should see me when I'm with two cats. I have to pet both of them because I'd feel like I'd be making one feel left out and like the other is the favorite. I'm a mess with kids.
The dad with dreadlocks (Lance?), his design looked familiar to me and I finally realized it reminded me a of a fanart design for a human Grim from The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy. Very different voices between those two characters though.
I wonder if there's any significance to the robot protecting the crystal having the same design as those in the artic in episode 5? Obviously both have the connection to the First Ones but the robot in the forest who was also protecting First Ones' tech had a more insect-like design over these more worm/Graboid ones.
I'm kind of curious what Hordak would have done if Catra had told the truth. Given his interactions with her and Shadow Weaver he doesn't seem like the time to tolerate failure but I suppose the implication here is that he at least would respect those who own up to their failures. Or I suppose more simply he was just testing to see if she would lie to him and since she did there's little merit in keeping her in a position of authority anymore where she could lie about important things again.
Season 2 verdict: Still enjoying it. Another person on this reddit recommended I view seasons 2 and 3 as one since they are basically just one season split in two. I was going to do that but this ended up longer than I thought I would, so I'll just do 2 and 3 separate to keep them semi-organized and easier to read.
I think overall Catra is my favorite character since she has the most interesting backstory, interactions, and just general path through the story out of everyone. She's like Pearl from Steven Universe or, well, Zuko. There's just so much baggage there that she's trying and kind of failing to deal with. I'm always invested in whatever's happening when she's onscreen. Hordak so far is a good big boss villain for Adora to face but Catra is a good archenemy for her.

Decided to rewatch the whole series after seeing the finale, here's my thoughts as they come along part 3
There was an old He-man reboot that was cancelled after two seasons, season 3 was being set up as the horde conquering Eternia with He-man and his kingdom being forced into hiding as rebels. Apparently She-Ra would also appear, though knowing that show she'd be lucky to be 1/4th as interesting or engaging as our Adora. I'm saying this because, even though that cartoon was cancelled before it could finish it's story, we were lucky enough to see ours to it's end and in a way that story they wanted to tell exists here with us now. Plus I always disliked that they called themselves "The Rebellion" when they weren't really rebelling against anything, but they are now!
Poor Adora, even after all this time she still has that hero complex eating away at her, telling her she's useless unless she's serving others.
Entrapta's ramblings about space this season are very relatable.
Catra's face when she sees Glimmer be manipulated, you can see so much behind her eyes. Fear for her standing, flashbacks to her own manipulation, shock at how unprepared Glimmer is for this. Love how Horde Prime sees right through her afterwards, she has no power over him.
Poor Entrapta, she hasn't been with the other princesses since season 1, they're opinion of her has been soured by her betrayal and appearance to not care. We know she loves her friends and is trying her best, but the wound is still sore.
Horde Prime using Glimmer's dad as a bargaining chip is extra horrible when you remember that this is when she discovers he's alive.
It's great that the show takes a moment to allow Adora to come to grips with no longer having a clear destiny she can follow. She's so used to being told what to do, this is the first time she's truly making her own decisions. Agency that Shadow Weaver begins to take away from her later.
I love Catra's internal struggles in these first few episodes. She's trying to do what she's been doing, working her way up the ladder, but she can't. Not anymore. Her heart isn't in it, she knows this isn't what she wants, she's just going through the motions. Spending time with Glimmer is the only thing she enjoys, she finally slows down for a moment to just enjoy someone's company and really bond. Her turn to good isn't a 180, we see her mind working and how she comes to the decision of sacrificing herself. Seeing that Horde Prime is a complete psychopath helped of course.
I love how Horde Prime's ship has star themed beds.
I don't know how they did it, but they made Hordak recognizable among the other clones. It's like twins, once you get to know them the difference is obvious. You can look at a clone and see he's Hordak, yet he looks identical to the others. It's remarkable.
These flashbacks Catra has, wandering the empty corridors that her decisions have left her in, it's a testimony to how far she's come that they don't reaffirm Adora's betrayal to her anymore. She wants to absolve herself of her sins, and she decides a sacrifice is the best way. She wants to go out on one good grace, redemption by death, but that action and her apology is what makes Adora sure she still has good in her. Catra has shown she is willing to be good, and that alone is enough for Adora to give her another chance.
This is the first time the best friend squad has been together since Glimmer pulled the queen card, a lot of the wounds are still fresh. I definitely think this is the point Bow and her truly realize they love each other, they probably had a schoolyard crush but the realization of where they are without each other and how much they mean to each other, something really deep sparked here.
The Star Siblings are here to show what life under Prime is like, but also as a quick show of the Rebellion's message expanding. That's a little underdeveloped though, which is mostly a product of time.
Adora's little "she's not my friend" bit is adorable but a bit out of place imo, Adora hasn't really been this outwardly lovestruck over Catra before, and while Adora has decided to give her another chance I don't think that reignition of love would have happened yet.
The thought that Entrapta went out to find that LUVD crystal to bring with her in the slightest hope she would find Hordak and that he would recognize it. Plus the noises she makes and the fact she immediately adopts Wrong Hordak and that we get to see her without her mask, ah she is so cute!
Hive Mind Catra is terrifying and tragic, it feels so violating. He talks about how she wanted Adora to save her, how afraid she was when she was assimilated. We see that numbness and how it would seem appealing to her, but under the cracks Catra is still suffering, and Adora promises to bring her back, tells her how much she cares about her, transforms into She-Ra to save her. And finally, they are together again.
I love Adora constantly checking on Catra, this is the first time in years she has been with her, she just wants to be with her. Catra starts falling back into her old ways though, that anger still persistent, and Adora's honeymoon phase is over already and for a second we're all afraid nothing has changed. You can see Catra doesn't want to make that mistake again, and she finally lets Adora help her, and likewise Adora finally steps back and lets Catra help her too. They've both grown so much, and that growth is what allows their relationship to blossom.
It's great that Spinnerella and Netossa get their time to shine this season. Their arc here parallels Catra and Adora's earlier, and I would say it's unfortunate they have to go through this, but I love the angst.
Double Trouble! Back for a five minute appearance where they admittedly don't do much, but hey they're fun to watch and have some great lines so it's worth it.
Catra in a healthy relationship, with friends that don't fear her and people she sees as equals. People she can just joke around with and be teased by. You love to see it.
Melog is a pretty important addition, as he gives Catra someone that she can fully trust without the baggage from before. He's literally her therapy support pet, and he's the one that stops her from running away again.
Shadow Weaver's little speech here is great, she's been told that the First One's made the magic stronger when they did the exact opposite. It's a commentary on colonialism, "we brought you civilization, our conquest was good actually" is a very common lie.
Catra holding Adora's hand, Glitra kiss, Best Friend Squad hug, Catra's smirk when Adora says she's right. You love to see it.
I love how Noelle made a self-insert character and also decided she should be evil. "So the only person I'm fighting here is... My own wife" is a mega ouch.
I love Wrong Hordak so much, he not only shows how the Horde Clones are just regular people without the influence of Prime but he is also ridiculously cute.
Did I mention how much I love the new She-Ra look? I liked the old one but damn this blows it out of the park.
I will admit the Heart having a failsafe a d Mara having a rebellion of her own is a bit out of nowhere, but it was a nice reveal of the origin of Grayskull.
I'm a huge sucker for friendship saving the day messages I admit. Not the rainbow lazer kind, but that love and kindness reaching through Prime's control is beautiful. Plus it's wonderful for Catra to see what real friendship is like.
This is a great little moment with Castaspella and Glimmer, this is the first time they've seen Micah since his death.
I love Shadow Weaver so much, she sees Adora and immediately shifts into child manipulation mode. This is the first time I'm actually getting pissed at her though, obviously because she's starting to drive her chisel between Catradora but also because she's reversing all the development Adora has had up until this point.
Hordak: "Go, then maybe these memories and imperfections will leave me " Entrapta: "Remember, your imperfections are beautiful!" The fuck I'm crying in the club again.
I love this Catradora moment, "what do you want Adora" "I have to do this". Obviously their relationship isn't going to be easy after all these years, and both these girl's flaws and insecurities are flaring up again and driving each other apart.
Adora tells off Shadow Weaver for good, she ruins people. This is a huge moment for this character, SW has convinced herself she is the good guy and that she is making the necessary actions to save the world, but this is the one moment she really looks back at herself.
"Adora chose Shadow Weaver, not me. Adora doesn't want me, not like I want her" oof ouch my soul. That with Adora's memories, it's clear they can't just go back to the way it was anymore. They're love is too important to them now.
My headcanon is that Shadow Weaver is drunk here. She's slurring, she's drinking, her daughter is going to sacrifice herself. Maybe her decision to die was one she made totally wasted lol.
Tumblr media
Catra promised Adora she'd look out for her, and the soft version of the promise song in the background. Ow ow ow ow my heart.
Glimbow canon!
Mara is here, telling Adora the same thing Razz told her in the 3rd episode of the entire show. Stop looking for what other people tell you to do, you have a choice.
Spinnetossa, Seamista, Entrapdak. It's cliche, but love conquers all is a message I'll never tire from.
I started tearing up with the Glimmer Micah fight, and full on sobbing when Angella appeared. Something that didn't really stop.
I was mixed on SW's sacrifice, but I think it works. Each of them were trying to take the selfish way out, to die for the ones they love. So it's fitting that SW is the one that does it.
Fuck yeah Hordak! What a monumentous but short lived moment.
CATRADORA!!! God, the confession, how Catra whispers it but how Adora hears it as a scream, how it wasn't Catra that made Adora weak but infact the exact opposite, how they're both so surprised and relieved that these feelings they've felt for years are real and strong and true and reciprocated. It's the best conclusion possible for them and it makes me cry so much.
This beautiful moment, where Adora saves Hordak, the ultimate repayal for him saving her all those years ago. He remembers her. Fuck I'm sobbing again.
Scorpia sees Catra again after leaving her, and of course she hugs her.
And it's over. The best show ever made. Netflix automatically resets your watch history and here I am looking at the button to play Season 1 Episode 1 again. This 1 and a half year journey feels like a millenia, it feels so long ago that Adora first picked up that sword. This is a show I will cherish forever, I can see myself binge watching in the retirement home already.

Angst no.8 + fluff no.9 for the sentence starters please? I'm in need of some angst/comfort stuff
8. “Is that blood?” “…No?”9. “Sleep over? Please?”
And though she’s not looking at Catra, she knows that Catra is going to be giving her that confused, annoyed look, so she recites, “‘for whither thou goest, I will go.’ I won’t let you do this—whatever it is—alone. If you want to fight, and bleed, and get hurt, I will be there with you.”
8. “Is that blood?” “…No?”
Adora silently jerks awake just past 3am, her hand already on the dagger kept under her bed. As she swings it out, a familiar hand catches it; Catra curses and then collapses on her bed, no doubt glaring at her. “What the fuck, Adora?”
“Oh.” Adora loosens her grip on the dagger and Catra takes it by the blade before tossing it onto the floor as Adora blinks the sleep from her eyes. “And don’t what the fuck me, what are you doing up so late and sneaking into my room?”
“Um, none of your business,” Catra sniffs. She stands with a groan, and Adora listens to her parabatai crack her back as she settles back into her pillow. And then she sniffs, and freezes.
“Catra.”
“Yeah, princess?”
“Is that blood?”
A long pause. “…No?”
With a heavy sigh that Adora sincerely hopes conveys all of her exasperation, she sits up and swings out of bed. “Come on, Catra.”
And surprisingly, Catra follows without even a bit of snark. She even reaches for Adora’s hand to let herself be tugged through the Institute and up to the training room, where Adora pushes her down to the floor and sits across from her, careful fingers easing up her shirt. Adora hisses as she sees the wound, deep and bleeding freely, and she reaches a hand out in a wordless demand as Catra reaches for her stele. She doesn’t flinch or wince when Adora begins to draw careful iratzes despite the way it must burn; all Catra does when Adora glances up at her is stare down at the floor, scowling.
“I really hope that wasn’t from a werewolf,” Adora tries, “I don’t want to have to fight a whole pack again.”
Usually, a remark like that would earn her a snarky remark or at least a roll of Catra’s eyes, but now she just huffs and shrugs. “It’s fine, princess.”
“Catra, I just—”
“It’s fine,” Catra snaps. As soon as Adora finishes, Catra bats her away, rolling down her shirt and grabbing her stele. “By the Angel, Adora,  I’m not a kid! We’re Shadowhunters, this is what we do. We fight and we bleed and we get hurt and we die, this is our life.”
Adora forces her voice to remain calm despite the way she wants to shake some sense into Catra. “I know that, but I don’t want to just sit here and watch you do this to yourself; you’re my parabatai. We swore it, Catra, ‘where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried.’”
For a moment, Adora is sure that Catra is going to concede and come to bed, but then she stands ramrod straight and shakes her head. “I’m going.”
And though she’s exhausted, and upset, and annoyed beyond belief at her hotheaded parabatai, Adora stands and grabs her sword from the weapons rack. “Let me get dressed then.” And though she’s not looking at Catra, she knows that Catra is going to be giving her that confused, annoyed look, so she recites, “‘for whither thou goest, I will go.’ I won’t let you do this—whatever it is—alone. If you want to fight, and bleed, and get hurt, I will be there with you.”
When Adora turns, she finds Catra touching her heart, her fingertips brushing against the tip of the rune that lies inked on both of their chests, the rune that binds them for life. She doesn’t smile when their gazes meet, but something in her face relaxes, and she nods. “Meet me outside in five minutes.” Thank you.
“I’ll be there in three.”
You’re welcome.
9. “Sleep over? Please?”
Catra decides that she is absolutely going to kill Adora’s new friends the first chance she gets. A little bit because they called her at 3am on a Tuesday night, and partially because they called her drunk out of their minds at 3am on a Tuesday night, and mostly because they had the nerve to tell her to come pick Adora up at 3am on a Tuesday night, as if everything between her and Adora is still okay.
She hadn’t even spoken to Adora, just to stupid fucking Shimmer, and in the background she could hear the sound of someone puking and a few voices yelling. Glitter said to hurry up in a very panicked voice, and then Catra hung up. For a moment, Catra lay in bed, phone tossed somewhere by her feet, and for a long, long few minutes, she contemplated staying in bed, going back to sleep, and having the quiet satisfaction in knowing that somewhere, Adora was puking her guts up after drinking too much.
And then those moments passed, and Catra swung herself out of bed, pulled on a jacket, and stomped outside.
And now here she is, waiting outside the Rebellion at 3:23 in the morning, waiting for stupid fucking Shimmer and stupid fucking Adora to come outside. They do, eventually; Bow is half-carrying, half-dragging Adora to Catra’s car, and he at least has the nerve to look apologetic. He struggles for a few minutes with the car door handle, and Catra only gets out to help him because she wants to get back to bed. Adora shoved inside the passenger seat, Catra turns to Bow and silently stares him down, sure her expression will convey how absolutely pissed she is.
“I am so sorry, it’s just—she’s really drunk, and—you—well,” quietly, head ducked in shame, Bow says, “none of us know where she lives.”
And oh, Catra is going to kill them. All she says though, is, “Give me gas money,” and turn on her heel when Bow digs out two wrinkled ten dollar bills. Catra waits for him to get back inside the bar and then turns to Adora, who sits quietly with her eyes closed and her head lolled back. For a moment, Catra wonders if she’s passed out, but then Adora’s eyes shoot open and she stares at Catra, dumbstruck.
“Catra! How’d you get here?” she questions. She leans forward and yelps as she loses control of her body, and she is so lucky Catra knows her well enough to have put out a hand to catch her.
Should’ve let her fall, Catra thinks, but she gently pushes Adora back and leans towards her to fasten her seatbelt. Only because she doesn’t want Adora to forget herself and fall over again while she’s driving, even if the image is pretty funny to imagine. When she finishes with the seatbelt and looks up, Catra finds Adora still staring at her, cheeks flushed and eyes dark. Her gaze is trained on Catras lips, and Catra can feel her body heat from how close they are, and for a moment, Catra is pulled back into Adora’s orbit, helpless as always to escape. But then she remembers herself, remembers how Adora so easily left her, and she tears herself away completely.
“Alright, princess,” she mutters, “let’s get you home.”
“Home!” Adora parrots happily, “we’re going home! Wait, where’s Glimmer? Where is everyone—Catra, we have to go back!”
“Why, did you leave them too? Funny, because I don’t remember you ever coming back for me.”
Adora stays quiet, and Catra glances at her out of the corner of her eye as she drives, startled to find a frown fixed on Adora’s face. Her voice is surprisingly steady when she whispers, “I never meant to leave you,” and Catra’s heart stutters, but then Adora’s head lolls to the side and she presses her hand against the window, humming off-key to herself.
Typical.
“Yeah, well. Just don’t puke in my car and we’re good.”
“I puked on Bow’s shoes,” Adora dutifully reports, “they were new, too.”
And honestly, that almost makes up for this shitty night.
“You’re still such a lightweight, Adora.”
Adora giggles in response and says something about kitty cats. Catra ignores this and fixes her eyes firmly on the road as she takes the achingly familiar path to Adora’s house. A year, she thinks, it’s been a year and she still hasn’t forgotten. Adora has carved her mark into Catra’s heart so deeply that she could find her way here blindfolded with no trouble after a whole year of avoiding her. And Adora’s new friends couldn’t even be bothered to figure out her address—
Catra takes a deep breath, and stiffens when she feels a warm, familiar hand high on her thigh. “Kitten,” Adora mumbles, “calm down.” It’s been a whole year, but Adora can still read her so easily, inebriated as she is. And it’s been a whole year, but Catra’s body still reacts to Adora’s touch, her shoulders relaxing and her heart unclenching as Adora rubs gentle circles against Catra’s thigh.
God, she’s pathetic.
“I’m fine, Adora. I don’t need you babying me, I never did.” Which is a lie, because Adora never babied her, only talked her down from countless anxiety attacks and fits of anger. But Catra doesn’t have Adora anymore, so she’s learned to take care of herself again. She doesn’t need Adora, never did.
But Adora’s hand stays there, warm even through Catra’s sweats, and Catra leaves it there.
When they pull up to Adora’s house, Adora whines and pouts and absolutely refuses to go in, even after Catra threatens to drag her by the hair. “You don’t even have a key,” she says triumphantly, and Catra just rolls her eyes, because Adora always keeps a spare taped underneath the mailbox, and besides.
She still has her key that Adora never took back, tucked safely (stupidly) away in the glove compartment.
“Come on, Adora. Jesus fuck, I’m exhausted, get up.”
And when Adora does not, Catra leans over her, unbuckles her seatbelt, and yanks her out of the car, ignoring Adora’s cry of surprise and pain when she is dragged out of the car and onto the ground. Catra’s never been as strong as Adora, but she’d hit the gym with Scorpia after the break up, and all those hours are clearly paying off, because it’s easier than Catra ever thought it would be to get Adora up and carry her up the walkway and to the front door. Adora whines when Catra finds the key and slides it home, and something in Catra’s heart stutters again when she makes her way inside again.
After a year, everything is still the same. There are pictures of them still up, and the couch is still where Catra loved and Adora hated, and—
Maybe, maybe, Adora still hurts too, the same way Catra does, deep inside where no one else knows. She just lets it show differently.
Catra shoves the thought away and kicks off her shoes, letting them fall messily onto the floor. Adora promptly slurs out a half-hearted protest, and it almost feels like it used to, when Catra would kick her shoes off because she was too lazy to keep them tidy, and Adora would protest, and Catra would shut her up with a gentle kiss. She’d always straighten her shoes after, just to see Adora’s sunny smile, but all she does now is drag Adora to her room and drop her none too gently against the bed. Adora groans and rolls over, and Catra watches in amusement as Adora fumbles for her pillow to smush her face into it.
“Gonna get you some water,” she says, mostly to herself. Adora groans again and Catra watches in the door for a moment to make sure she’s okay. Other than her shoes on the bed—Adora is going to freak out about that in the morning—she seems fine, so Catra leaves.
When she gets back, Adora has somehow managed to sit up, but her eyes are still closed and she startles when Catra knocks on the open door. She opens her eyes and smiles wide when she sees Catra, then she frowns. “Catra! Where’d you go?”
“I told you, I went to get you some water. You need to drink it, Adora.”
Adora’s petulant frown only deepens and she shakes her head. “Not thirsty.”
“I don’t care, drink it anyway.”
Eventually, Catra manages to make Adora take a few sips of the water before letting her lay down again. As Catra places the glass down on the side table, Adora catches her wrist and weakly tugs. “Are you leaving?”
“Yes, Adora, I’m leaving. I have work in the morning.”
Catra’s words only make Adora clutch at her tighter, and Catra makes the mistake of looking over at her and into her wide, sad eyes. “Sleep over? Please?” Adora asks, and her voice is quiet, all of her vulnerability laid bare for Catra to see.
And Catra could say no. It would be so easy to, to pull away and leave the house, but Catra has always been weak for Adora, and it’s always been so easy for Catra to fall back into Adora’s orbit.
So she stays. Just for tonight, she stays.

Sink my teeth to save you
“How did...what are you?”
The stranger stroked her chin, pondering something, then said, “Well, I’m the tall dark stranger your parents warned you about," flashing her abnormally sharp fang like teeth, almost in a grin, though it felt more like she was just showing off.

It was late. Definitely past midnight. Arguably, it was too late for a 'good looking girl' like Adora to be out at this time, on her own. How else was she meant to spend her Friday night with no one around to keep her company? She decided she didn't need friends for tonight, just some dingy bar music, and one too many shots. It was practically the same thing.
A couple guys had tried to hit on her, but she made it very clear she was not in the mood, or attracted to them in any sense of the word.
If only a hot girl could come along.

And a hot girl she got. The next time she looked up from the deep depths of her (5th?) shot glass, a couple stools away from her was the most beautiful woman she had ever laid her eyes on.
Brown, tanned skin; long luscious curls that she could only dream of how soft they felt; tight black skinny jeans, and leather jacket tying the outfit together. Her eyes were striking, one blue, another practically golden and her demeanour screamed a careless and cocky don’t fuck with me.
 God.
Awestruck, Adora felt as though she was short circuiting.
Adora being Adora, however, had no clue how to approach this, approach her. So all she did was stare, until the girl looked in her direction, then she whipped her head back to her empty glass, calling the bartender for another drink.
Over the next ten minutes, Adora could of sworn the girl had looked in her direction, most definitely at her, multiple times, yet made no move to talk to her. It was disappointing to say the least.
If I don’t make a move, who will?
Alas, no matter how many times she told herself this however, she couldn’t break the stalemate of secret staring. She continued to watch the girl, and the girl continued to watch her as they knocked down drinks sequentially.
Once Adora was past being slightly buzzed, she checked her phone, and was greeted with a couple of messages from her friends who were out of town, and the fact it was nearly 2am.
Sighing, Adora knew her time was up, and that she’d probably never see that beautiful brunette again, so she paid for the last of her drinks and gathered her things, defeated. Unable to control herself, she stole one more glance at the girl, who was now on her phone, immersed with something else. Adora took this as a sign from the universe that she had no chance, and finally made her exit.
Since she lived so close, there was no point in calling an Uber— even if it was late, Adora was drunk, and pretty, blah blah blah…
Rolling her eyes, she started walking, completely unaware of the figure behind her.
Then, just a couple minutes into her journey, right as she passed an alleyway, someone was grabbing her from behind, hand over her mouth to muffle any cries for help.
“Help!” She tried to say, but it was a futile attempt, voice muffled by his palms.

Whoever this was was taller than her, bigger too. Dragging her into the alleyway, Adora met the wall with a thud, and was now face to face with the captor.
“What’s someone like you doing out so late, sweetie?” His voice with low, full of something that made Adora shudder as his fingers brushed against her cheek.
“Let go of me!” Adora demanded calmly, despite the fact she felt her blood pumping at the speed of light, and that she so desperately wanted this to stop, so desperately wanted to go home.
“Okay...you can get what you want, when I get what I want.” Leaning in closer, Adora fought the urge to try and move away, and was forced to inhale his rancid breath.
“And what is that?” She could feel her voice wavering.
That’s when one hand moved to grip her waist, when he said, “I saw you in the bar, playing hard to get, yet you’re here all alone, so how about I—”
Thud.

And this time, it wasn’t her body slamming into the wall, it was his, onto the floor, with blood pouring out of his neck. Letting out a gasp, she backed away from the body, deeper into the alley, and once she looked up from the ground (from his body) she was met with the face of the person who had to be behind this.
Her?
The brunette smiled as she stepped over the body to get to Adora, coming face to face with her for the first time tonight, even though Adora did not think the universe wanted this to happen.
“D-did you just…” Adora stuttered out, pointing at the limp body on the floor, and the small pool of blood around him.
“Yes. Your welcome,” the girl said, bluntly, as if this was something normal, regular for her.
Adora’s eyes widened in horror, and just as she was about to clasp a hand over her mouth, the stranger grabbed her wrist and said, “oh, stop being a baby, he’s not dead, just unconscious, he’ll be back in a few.”
“Oh,” Adora sighed, letting her wrist fall to her side.
She looked past the girl once more, to examine the body closer. Only his neck was bleeding, and it looked like—
“How did... what are you?” Adora asked, looking the brunette dead straight in the eye; so focused, so determined to get an answer, but the girls mismatched eyes were mesmerising, making her forget, sucking her in.
The stranger stroked her chin, pondering something, then said, “Well, I’m the tall dark stranger your parents warned you about," flashing her abnormally sharp fang like teeth, almost in a grin, though it felt more like she was just showing off.
Adora rolled her eyes at the ludicrousness of the comment, retorting back with, “What? A vampire?”
Gravely, slowly, the girl nodded, without an ounce of warmth in her eyes, and in that moment, Adora could tell she was serious.
Mouth hanging open, she began to speak again. "Vampires aren't real though." Her reply was frank, matter of fact, but also slow, as if she was debating whether or not that statement was true— the person in front of her said otherwise.
Tutting, the brunette said, "They very much are, princess— and I’m one of ‘em.”
Staring in disbelief, Adora couldn’t think of much else to say, so she allowed her alcohol addled mind to take charge for a little while, asking, “so...Miss Vampire, you got a name?”
At that, the girl chuckled, hand outstretched as she said, “Catra.”
Adora took the hand, and gave it a sloppy shake, repeating the name, “Catra” to herself. “I like it— Catra...has a nice ring to it.” She said with a lazy smile.
“What’s yours then, or should I just keep calling you princess?” Catra asked in return, but Adora was more focused on the latter end of the sentence. It was the second time Catra had said it, but only the first time it was getting through to Adora and her brain’s slower processing.
“Huh?” She said when she finally realised the question needed to be answered. “Oh! Adora, it’s...yeah, Adora.”
“Wow, even your name is endearing,” Catra replied almost deadpan, and for some reason, that made Adora like her even more, despite the impending danger she should of felt.
“I saw you—” Adora began, “checking me out inside.”
“Well, I saw you checking me out in there too. So I’d say it was mutual.” Another grin.
“Why...why did you follow me out? Why didn’t you speak to me in there?” Adora asked, burning for answers.
Pausing to think, Catra let out a sigh before answering. “I don’t know. I’m not very good with humans, or girls, or human girls, so when you were checking me out, I didn’t know how to approach it, you know, that maybe this pretty girl staring was all in my head. Then you left, I followed — which I admit is...not great, but I thought, ‘just in case’ and I was right so—”
“You’re not going to kill me?” Adora was relieved that Catra didn’t seem like she wanted to drink her blood, but also shocked at the fact that even Catra, a vampire was also equally as nervous to approach someone as her.
“What? I— no, we have morals, you realise that, right?” Catra replied, clearly a little offended.
“Well then...that’s good,” Adora said smiling softly at the ground.
Adora knew she should of been scared to death right now, weary of this - mesmerising - stranger who she stood in front of, who had just rendered a grown man unconscious; but she couldn’t find it in her to be fearful of the girl. In fact, Catra felt familiar to her, alluring, and maybe it was the fact she was still drunk, but she wanted to know more, know Catra more.
"How about we…” On impulse, Adora grabbed Catra’s hand, playing with her fingers as she said, “...continue this conversation— at my house?"
Catra grinned, flashing her fangs once more.
End
