22, iapetus/percy please
"I've seen the way you look at me when you think I don't notice."
Percy didn't know how exactly he'd gotten into this situation. They were enemies. Like yeah Iapetus was... well good looking, powerful, cool, intelligent- not that any of that mattered.
They were enemies.
Enemies who currently had to work together because the Titans hated their mom only helping their half-siblings and their mom was pissed that they weren't siding with her and so we were all trapped in Tartarus together but Percy and his best friend Annabeth had gotten separated (Gods he hoped she was okay, he couldn't live with himself if she died down here-) and now he was with Iapetus and Iapetus was very good looking and was very smart and-
And they were enemies.
They were enemies and he was currently pressed against a wall with Iapetus smirking down at him (bastard was tall and damn it if that wasn't hot).
"What?" he managed to squeak out, not focusing on Iapetus' arm pressed above his head or his vicious and very pretty smirk and glittering eyes and-
"I've seen the way you look at me when you think I don't notice," Iapetus repeated, head tilted and practically oozing smugness. "I do have eyes."
"Hadn't noticed," Percy choked out, definitely not looking at his shining silver eyes that seemed brighter than the fucking moon right then.
Iapetus laughed, leaning closer.
"Yeah?"
"Yeah," Percy snipped. "Here I was thinking you used echolocation to get around."
"Would be a fun method I'm sure," he crooned. "But no, I have eyes and I see how your eyes drift."
"Dunno what you mean," Percy insisted again.
No matter what feelings he had towards Iapetus, they were enemies and Iapetus wasn't exactly known for being nice to his enemies. He was pretty, powerful, intelligent, and oh so dangerous. That was a bad combo. Definitely bad. Percy did not swoon a bit whenever Iapetus did something devastatingly powerful no he did not.
Iapetus' spear tapped the ground and Percy swallowed.
"No idea? Your eyes just lock onto me for fun?"
"We're enemies," Percy said, voicing the thought that he'd been screaming at himself the last three days. "Just have a truce."
Just a truce, Hyperion had said when he'd proposed the team up.
Just a truce, Annabeth had agreed when they'd accepted the assistance.
Just a truce, Iapetus had promised when he'd gutted an enemy trying to take Percy's head off.
Just a truce, Percy had reminded himself when he'd desperately wanted to see if Iapetus' abs were has hard as they looked.
"It is just a truce," Iapetus agreed. "But then, I might be inclined to keep such a pretty little demigod."
Percy did not flush at that. He did not. If he did it was out of anger, not- not something warm and flattered and flustered. He was angry not guilty hopeful.
They were enemies.
"We've still gotta escape Tartarus," he said very solemnly and not in a squeak at all.
"Hmm," Iapetus leaned down, his mouth brushing Percy's ear. "I suppose we do, pretty demigod. But who knows what will happen after."
He pulled back with a positively wolfish smile and then stepped back, gracious and elegant and radiating smugness.
Percy took a long moment to force himself to take deep breaths and to not melt into the ground.
Send me a number and a pairing

I JUST REALIZED WHY ITS CALLED THE SUN AND THE STAR
(spoilers for TSATS)
Okay, now I'm not sure if I'm literally the last person to realize this, BUT
-Nico and Will go to Tartarus to save Bob
-Bob calls them "my sun and star"
I originally assumed that's why the book is called that.
BUT THATS NOT ALL.
-Bob's last words to Percy and Annabeth are to "Tell the sun and stars I say hello"

thinking about how if bianca hadn't died, nico would still exhibit a lack of a brain to mouth filter. like imagine hades explaining greek mythology to his kids while they take a walk through the underworld, and 10 year old nico goes:
"does the river lethe work on mnemosyne?"
bianca is swatting at him in a panic to shut the fuck up and hades remains quiet before remarking that he is not exactly sure.

The New Year’s resolutions on read riordan are just…
Tumblr media
Hazel, you did not have to crush his dreams like that. Also the fact that Frank probably beat Nico at Mythomagic is gold.
Tumblr media
Will Solace and Rick Riordan. You two know exactly what you’re doing and I need you to stop right now.
Tumblr media
You had no right, Rick.
Tumblr media
This is entirely #OnBrand (haha I think I’m so funny) for Alex and I’m going to need this as a short story, Richard. Perhaps we can write this story and convince Disney to release the show this year??? Just some extra incentive?
Tumblr media
I- Yes. Yes you did. Probably for the best though.
Tumblr media
Richard, is this supposed to be a clue? Like… we getting a Gaea come back story or something? With some new and old heroes? Does she team up with Loki and Apophis? Is this the crossover?
Including Gaea is so out of the blue, Richard, so this feels like a hint. Also, like, no year was specified so… new year 2024? Please say yes there’s a crossover coming in 2024, Uncle Rick!

Anyway, if I may entertain you, here's another fascinating thing about Nico and Bob and the concept of friendship.
When in Tartarus, Bob realized that Percy was the one responsible for his lost memories, and, as I can see it, technically abandoned him and Annabeth for a while. Yet, later, he still came to their rescue - only because he had promised Nico.
This chapter, funny enough, directly precedes the Cupid incident, in which Jason starts seeing Nico as a friend.
Idk about yall but this feels... astounding to me, you know? In one span of pages, we have: Percy in danger and Bob saving him for Nico - vs - Nico struggling with his crush on Percy and Jason being there for him.
What a ride.
but anyway. It's like. two consecutive events in which we can see how one can be a friend to Nico di Angelo, the child who's supposed to be alone: it's Bob and his promise of a forged friendship; it's Jason and the start of a new connection.
Not to mention the irony that Nico and Bob's friendship saved Percy, whereas Nico and Percy's friendship was the freaking most rocky bumpy deadly one in the series. Huh. So much for the word friends.
It's just. To me, it brings a whole grand picture of Nico and the importance of friendship. It also did not help that the Cupid fight just blew a freaking bomb in my already-fragile tolerance for romance. Placing it next to two beautiful companionships? What else's there to do?
Ok the last part is just my evil persona talking. anywayyyyy Nico and his friendships. Spectacular.

I saw this on wikipedia, and I think it's really interesting. I don't know if Rick Riordan was aware of this, but it certainly adds an interesting layer to Iapetus losing his memory and becoming Bob and stuff:
"Hesiod and other Greek scholars regarded the sons of Iapetus as mankind's ancestors and as such, some of humanity's worst qualities were said to have been inherited from these four gods, each of whom were described with a particular moral fault that often led to their own downfall. For instance, sly and clever Prometheus could perhaps represent crafty scheming; the inept and guileless Epimetheus, foolish stupidity; the enduring, strongest and powerful Atlas, excessive daring; and the arrogant Menoetius, rash violence."

Could Nico not just… shadow travel himself and the questing party out of Tartarus? I know it’s gonna take a lot of energy with it probably being himself, Will, Bob, Small Bob, and maybe Damasen and that Tartarus is a long way from the surface, but it’s much less of a risk than using the Doors. There’s probably a magical barrier keeping him from doing exactly this, but you never know until you try
And it’s a much more solid solution than waiting for an Annabeth ex machina with her non-canonical Christmas bracelet key

⚠️Does contain The Sun and The Star spoilers so continue at your own risk!!!⚠️
I don’t know when Will Solace became one of my favourite Percy Jackson characters but it probably has something to do with the fact that he’s one of those characters that’s deeply traumatised but everyone forgets about it
So (for some reason) i’m gonna sit here and list everything my man’s been through:
At ten years old he and his mother got attacked by Stymphalian birds, found by his satyr and taken to camp halfblood where he, at some point, became a year round camper
He admits that his mother, despite his love for her, could be quite neglectful during her time on tour and he grew to live with it but now he’s scared of being abandoned
Between the ages of 10-12 he’s training to be a field medic in camp
Had to watch his friends and family switch sides to fight against them and probably had to watch them die throughout the course of the books (it’s mentioned that there’s countless demigods deaths from Kronos’ side during the battles)
At 13/14 he fights in a battle to defend his home where his brother, Lee Fletcher, dies along with many other campers including some from the Apollo cabin
Within the same battle he probably has to heal many of his friends as well as watch them die as he believes he ‘fails’ to heal them
At 14 he fights in The Battle of Manhattan where it’s believed the Apollo cabin suffers the most fatalities (four documented, however I remember seeing somewhere that the cabin was practically empty due to fatalities and switching sides by the end of the series)
During the battle he heals Annabeth, which drains most of his energy, he creates a field hospital on Olympus to heal other campers and he becomes head counsellor of the Apollo cabin as Michael Yew was never found after the bridge collapse.
Fought in another battle literally less than a year after the last one and delivered a baby mid way through at the age of 14/15, had two entire camps full of children depending on his skills as the head healer
Watched Octavian willingly hurtle himself to his death and believes he ‘let’ him do it even after being ashamed that he’s related to Octavian.
Let himself be a distraction for six guards that would have happily either killed him or captured him
Spent his days after the battle with Gaea in the infirmary healing other campers, or watching them suffer through injuries they would ultimately not recover from
Has his father just fuckin plummet to earth and pitch up at camp as an egotistical teenager after his own powers were going mental and camp was falling into disarray because Apollo was no longer an Olympian throughout
Has to help his father complete his quests and heal other injured campers during fights and battles all whilst trying to make sure his boyfriend and his father don’t do anything stupid and die
Finally gets a break at camp with his boyfriend with no other campers and gets a prophecy that insinuates that he will have to go to the depths of tartarus which could either drive him insane or just straight up kill him off and be abandoned there
Goes on said quest and before they’ve even gotten into tartarus he’s passed out 3 times, is the colour of literal wax and has wounds that have just randomly opened up on his body after collapsing on a hill of what’s described as glass shards and rolling down.
is plagued by nightmares, gets drawn in by voices of tormented, pain ridden souls and loses his one source of light that’s keeping his barely sane
Comes to the realisation that he cannot heal everything and that not everything needs to be healed. That his boyfriend has dark parts that Will may not like but that’s okay and they can learn to live with those parts of eachother
(i fully believe that, if it came to it, despite his objections, he would have sacrificed himself to stay in tartarus if it meant Nico and Bob got out alive)
I know many people love to talk about Nico’s trauma and honestly fair enough cause his trauma is deep and horrific and he deserves to heal and be happy and his trauma should never be overlooked
however i will never miss an opportunity to bring up will solace and talk about the shit he’s been through

DUMB TSATS predictions before the book comes out and ruins my fun PART 2!!!
1. Nico dies and either Jason or Will has to do trials of Orpheus to get him back
2. Nico becomes a god, and thats the thing he has to lose or whatever re: the prophecy
3. Alabaster will be in it, whether as a protagonist, antagonist or anti-hero, he will be a PROBLEM (and effectively the third party in the quest for a bit)
4. Lou Ellen Will introduce Alabaster to Will and Nico bc they need to learn to mist travel into the underworld and that unfortunately only Al knows how to do. Even though Lou is head of Hecate kids.
5. When Alabaster sees Will and Nico he says he doesn’t like “the creepy one” and it becomes apparent as he describes him that he is referring to Will. “He smiles too much, looks fake, don’t trust him” . Lou is confused by this.
6. This observation sparks an old fight between Will and Nico and how Will doesn’t understand how people perceive Nico as creepy.
7. Al will watch this interaction with interest because he “doesn’t have a television”. Lou will tell him he needs to gain back some social skills
8. Alabaster will mist travel them in a pinch just as Nico gets the hang of it and it throws them all off.
9. Alabaster, Nico and Will travel through the underworld. Al and Will bicker about things (most notably about whether Lotr or Star Wars is the better trilogy)
10. Al and nico have a conversation about saving dead friends. Al says his “heroes never die” line and Nico retorts with a smirk that “we’re Greek that’s all our heroes do”
11. They meet Ethans ghost. The ghost of Ethan also calls Will Creepy, and Al has a heartfelt moment where Ethan tells him that he needs to forgive himself. Al still stubborn doesn’t listen and insists that Ethan should leave with him as a mistform. Ethan asks Al whether he’d do it all again, knowing now that Ethan had turned at the last moment.
12. Will says something to affect about not being able to stop death bc he has unaddressed survivor guilt he’s projecting.
13. Nico does not like this, because he kinda agrees with Al (doesn’t want to address the fact that he’s been thinking about Jason and whether he could save him)
14. They get attacked before Al can finish his convo with Ethan’s ghost. Alabaster has to fend off the threat to give Will and Nico time to get into Tartarus. He says his silly “heroes never die” line ans charges off. Nico calls after him “We’re Greek! That’s like all heroes do!” (This time crying instead of smirking).
15. Will and Nico get to Tartarus and are captured by whatever that thing is bc they think they’re saving Bob. Nico gets to say a bad word as a treat.
16. Bob actually saves them, and Nico asks why he was calling for help. He reveals it wasn’t him. Nico listens and hears another call. He follows it without checking if Will is with him.
17. Isolated Nico gets barraged by the “Listen” warning and Nico finds that it was Akhlys using a “Jason puppet” to lure Nico to her.
18. It’s not a puppet and when this is somehow revealed and Nico says they have to go save Jason.
19. Some sort of battle or showdown with the actual villain whether it’s Akhlys or if Akhlys is working with/for someone else likely the Other Titans . Bob is injured but gets his old memories back. And has to deal with reconciling his new and old friendships
20. When it seems like everything is lost. And Bob has decided to be on their side even tho they are probably all gonna die down in Tartarus. Alabaster returns with a ghost army of purgatory Titan supporters and save Nico and company (alabaster uses this save as definitive proof that Lotr is the superior trilogy as he has in essence “pulled an Aragorn”)
21. Will let’s him have the win, but adds Al could be a son of Apollo with how dramatic he is.
22. Al comments that that would make them brothers.
23. Will cringes and says “I’d rather die”
24. Jason’s ghost is freed. Nico has to actually deal with the fact that he died as well as the fact that he was ignoring that he had feelings for him. Will hears this part.
24. Alabaster has to see all his Titan army friends going off to Elysium bc it’s revealed he somehow got that deal for them for helping Nico. He doesn’t want them to leave bc he doesn’t want to be the sole survivor again but he has to deal with that.
25. Will can’t heal Bob, who is extremely wounded . Will has to deal with that.
26. Essentially all three of them get to deal with their own special flavor of survivor’s guilt. Nico with the they died bc I wasn’t there/couldn’t help them. Will with the i did everything I could to help them and they died anyway and Alabaster with the “it’s my fault they’re dead”kind the thing that is lost is whatever defense mechanism each was using to deal with those traumas
27. This post will not get as much attention as the other one bc it not as funny or amusing (or brief)
28. I might just write the above as a fanfic
I have been thinking about this all way too much you guys. Sorry not sorry.

everytime i see things where ppl are like, upset at percy and blaming him for calypso still being on that island or like, forgetting abt bob im like....okay but when was he supposed to do smth abt either of them. and why is it supposed to be on him to do smth?
cause like, if we're talking calypso, he did what he could. he made the gods promise, he made zeus swear on the styx how was he supposed to know whether or not zeus actually followed through. and then he had what, a few months at best, recovering from a war, trying to focus on his mortal life, yk, pretty much all he wanted, before he was kidnapped by hera and the gods closed down communications. and then hes homeless and amnesiac and then hes going on quest after quest, like. he doesnt even have time to breathe, forgive the boy for not thinking of calypso in this time.
and bob/iapetus like. ive seen many percy is so "manipulative" and "toxic" takes in regards to him and like?? do ya'll even remember when percy and iapetus met? cause when they met iapetus was an enemy doing his damndest to kill thalia, percy, and nico. percy thinking fast and telling him they were "friends" was percy being smart and saving their lives. and he very clearly did have regrets in House of Hades abt how he left things off with bob too, like, that isnt the action of a self-absorbed hero at all.

Does it ever just blow your mind that when the Gods didn't help Percy and Annabeth in Tartarus, their greatest enemies did? i.e. Bob and Damasen? Just something I find really cool.
Well, for one it does make sense. Tartaros is a prison, it isn't someplace a God can casually hop in and just start helping. At most they could throw something in and hope it reached the kids but like- that isn't a thing I'd expect them to do.
But yeah it is cool that the enemies help. I think it would've been even cooler if there'd been a reflection of that on land too, instead of just foes fighting there.

au where tartarus floods percy’s sense and he can’t hear annabeth calling for him to stop so he goes farther and farther to the point of no return and kills akhlys. suddenly everything quiets, power is roaring through his veins, golden ichor coats percy as well as the ground where the goddess lay begging for mercy. annabeth staring at him horrified, dazed, terrified. it takes him a moment to realize what he’s done, he stumbles back slightly in shock and disgust and that’s when annabeth’s brain starts working again and she rushes forward to get the two of them away as fast as possible. a goddess just died and it was not a quiet affair. every monster in the pit would be making their way towards them eventually, right? they had to go now. nyx never appears, they make their way to meet up w bob and it’s a quiet and tense journey. annabeth cant find anything to say, neither can percy. they can’t even look at each other. bob doesn’t say anything about the ichor, instead he points out that their veil is gone. they are visible. as they make their way towards the crowd of monsters by the doors, everyone is silent. the monster are standing still, no one is going up, no one’s moving, no one’s talking, it’s completely silent. tartarus never appears, there is no fight. the crowd parts at them, whispers are heard but they can’t understand what they’re saying. halfway through, percy hears a telkhine behind him grunt to the dracaena next to him “godkiller” and suddenly it’s the chant of the crowd. they’re cheering for him. a lot are proud of him. a few intelligent ones fear him, they hide when he looks their way, their fear is glaringly obvious. when they approach the doors koios simply steps aside. percy looks back at the monsters in disbelief, they must misunderstand his expression as they reverently kneel, silently pledging their allegiance, their service, their loyalty. the godkiller is on their side, he’s one of them now. the power still flows through his veins, his anger is even stronger. the rivers of the underworld burst from the ground and douse the thousands of monsters in seconds. the ones left behind are suddenly crying out in pain before bursting into dust. the elevator ride is quiet.

IDK why Nico bothered going to Tartarus on a quest to rescue Bob. He's the prince of the Underworld and presumably has Ethan on staff. He's literally done the exact thing Nico wants to do before. Ethan doing that thing is the reason Nico met Bob in the first place! And now he's a permanent resident of the kingdom Nico has nepobaby privileges in.
