I JUST REALIZED WHY ITS CALLED THE SUN AND THE STAR
(spoilers for TSATS)
Okay, now I'm not sure if I'm literally the last person to realize this, BUT
-Nico and Will go to Tartarus to save Bob
-Bob calls them "my sun and star"
I originally assumed that's why the book is called that.
BUT THATS NOT ALL.
-Bob's last words to Percy and Annabeth are to "Tell the sun and stars I say hello"

Clearest images ever taken of Equatorial Ridge on Saturn's moon Iapetus.
The equatorial ridge is the tallest mountain feature on Saturn's moon Iapetus.
It is 20 km (12 mi) high and is the third tallest mountain structure in the Solar System.
It runs along most of Iapetus' equator. It was discovered by the Cassini probe on 31 December 2004.
Cassini–Huygens, commonly called Cassini, was a space-research mission by NASA, the European Space Agency (ESA), and the Italian Space Agency (ASI) to send a space probe to study the planet Saturn and its system, including its rings and natural satellites.

The New Year’s resolutions on read riordan are just…
Tumblr media
Hazel, you did not have to crush his dreams like that. Also the fact that Frank probably beat Nico at Mythomagic is gold.
Tumblr media
Will Solace and Rick Riordan. You two know exactly what you’re doing and I need you to stop right now.
Tumblr media
You had no right, Rick.
Tumblr media
This is entirely #OnBrand (haha I think I’m so funny) for Alex and I’m going to need this as a short story, Richard. Perhaps we can write this story and convince Disney to release the show this year??? Just some extra incentive?
Tumblr media
I- Yes. Yes you did. Probably for the best though.
Tumblr media
Richard, is this supposed to be a clue? Like… we getting a Gaea come back story or something? With some new and old heroes? Does she team up with Loki and Apophis? Is this the crossover?
Including Gaea is so out of the blue, Richard, so this feels like a hint. Also, like, no year was specified so… new year 2024? Please say yes there’s a crossover coming in 2024, Uncle Rick!

My friend and I made our Solangelo Book Bingo Boards! First is mine, second is theirs
(Yes, I know we sabotaged ourselves with stuff like #GiveWillAGun and Tartarus Pamphlet and Albania Reveal, but it was worth it, okay?)
Feel free to use it for yourselves if you want. This was so much fun and I encourage everyone else to do bingo, too

I don't know why, but I got a very strong and sudden urge to do a piece of Iapetus. I literally couldn't sleep, as all I could do was think of painting Iapetus. I kinda lost track of time, but I do know it took me just a little over an hour. It was a lot of fun, I hadn't ever really done a study like this before!

I saw this on wikipedia, and I think it's really interesting. I don't know if Rick Riordan was aware of this, but it certainly adds an interesting layer to Iapetus losing his memory and becoming Bob and stuff:
"Hesiod and other Greek scholars regarded the sons of Iapetus as mankind's ancestors and as such, some of humanity's worst qualities were said to have been inherited from these four gods, each of whom were described with a particular moral fault that often led to their own downfall. For instance, sly and clever Prometheus could perhaps represent crafty scheming; the inept and guileless Epimetheus, foolish stupidity; the enduring, strongest and powerful Atlas, excessive daring; and the arrogant Menoetius, rash violence."

⚠️Does contain The Sun and The Star spoilers so continue at your own risk!!!⚠️
I don’t know when Will Solace became one of my favourite Percy Jackson characters but it probably has something to do with the fact that he’s one of those characters that’s deeply traumatised but everyone forgets about it
So (for some reason) i’m gonna sit here and list everything my man’s been through:
At ten years old he and his mother got attacked by Stymphalian birds, found by his satyr and taken to camp halfblood where he, at some point, became a year round camper
He admits that his mother, despite his love for her, could be quite neglectful during her time on tour and he grew to live with it but now he’s scared of being abandoned
Between the ages of 10-12 he’s training to be a field medic in camp
Had to watch his friends and family switch sides to fight against them and probably had to watch them die throughout the course of the books (it’s mentioned that there’s countless demigods deaths from Kronos’ side during the battles)
At 13/14 he fights in a battle to defend his home where his brother, Lee Fletcher, dies along with many other campers including some from the Apollo cabin
Within the same battle he probably has to heal many of his friends as well as watch them die as he believes he ‘fails’ to heal them
At 14 he fights in The Battle of Manhattan where it’s believed the Apollo cabin suffers the most fatalities (four documented, however I remember seeing somewhere that the cabin was practically empty due to fatalities and switching sides by the end of the series)
During the battle he heals Annabeth, which drains most of his energy, he creates a field hospital on Olympus to heal other campers and he becomes head counsellor of the Apollo cabin as Michael Yew was never found after the bridge collapse.
Fought in another battle literally less than a year after the last one and delivered a baby mid way through at the age of 14/15, had two entire camps full of children depending on his skills as the head healer
Watched Octavian willingly hurtle himself to his death and believes he ‘let’ him do it even after being ashamed that he’s related to Octavian.
Let himself be a distraction for six guards that would have happily either killed him or captured him
Spent his days after the battle with Gaea in the infirmary healing other campers, or watching them suffer through injuries they would ultimately not recover from
Has his father just fuckin plummet to earth and pitch up at camp as an egotistical teenager after his own powers were going mental and camp was falling into disarray because Apollo was no longer an Olympian throughout
Has to help his father complete his quests and heal other injured campers during fights and battles all whilst trying to make sure his boyfriend and his father don’t do anything stupid and die
Finally gets a break at camp with his boyfriend with no other campers and gets a prophecy that insinuates that he will have to go to the depths of tartarus which could either drive him insane or just straight up kill him off and be abandoned there
Goes on said quest and before they’ve even gotten into tartarus he’s passed out 3 times, is the colour of literal wax and has wounds that have just randomly opened up on his body after collapsing on a hill of what’s described as glass shards and rolling down.
is plagued by nightmares, gets drawn in by voices of tormented, pain ridden souls and loses his one source of light that’s keeping his barely sane
Comes to the realisation that he cannot heal everything and that not everything needs to be healed. That his boyfriend has dark parts that Will may not like but that’s okay and they can learn to live with those parts of eachother
(i fully believe that, if it came to it, despite his objections, he would have sacrificed himself to stay in tartarus if it meant Nico and Bob got out alive)
I know many people love to talk about Nico’s trauma and honestly fair enough cause his trauma is deep and horrific and he deserves to heal and be happy and his trauma should never be overlooked
however i will never miss an opportunity to bring up will solace and talk about the shit he’s been through

Iapetus: Saturn's Disappearing Moon - October 15th, 1995.
"Iapetus has an unusual surface, one half of which is very dark, the other half very light. This caused it's discoverer Cassini to remark that Iapetus could only be seen when on one side of Saturn but not the other. The reason for the difference between hemispheres is unknown. Iapetus is the third largest of Saturn's moon behind Titan and Rhea. Iapetus is composed predominantly of water ice."

Wait wait wait what if, ok, hold on
If Octavian is the one using Bob's voice (or like, teaming up with Bob) to get Nico and Will to come down there, what if, instead of just proper funeral rites and being able to move on from being a ghost, he wants to be resurrected because now that he's dead, he's been able to reflect and feel the guilt that comes with hurting so many people, so he wants to get a second chance at life to fix his mistakes.
And he's convinced Bob to go wherever he goes, so the only way to rescue Bob is to bring Octavian along, and Nico and Will's first fight is spurred on by this dilemma:
Nico hates Octavian because he blackmailed his sister and treated her terribly, but loves Bob enough to overpower that grudge. Besides, as bad as Octavian is, Nico doesn't think he deserves to be down here, because nobody deserves to be down here.
Will's never been here before, and more than that, doesn't see Tartarus for what it is, doesn't grasp the incomprehensible cosmic horror of being trapped inside of a primordial's body. And he doesn't know Bob, in fact, has never met him until now. So he's perfectly willing to let Octavian rot down here, because he was a hater, a traitor, and a full-blown dictator.
Of course, they eventually resolve this issue, but only because Nico brings up the fact that Bob could die any moment if he stays down here, and if he dies, his new personality dies with him, leaving only the ruthless Iapetus, who could potentially find his own way out of here, and try to destroy the world yet AGAIN. And he's so angry about the fact that he had to resort to threats of armageddon to convince Will not to abandon Bob, because like... Bob is Nico's friend. And he needs his help. Why isn't that enough?
Will starts picking on him for being all pale and sickly looking, and Nico jumps in to defend him because he's ALSO pale and sickly looking, and Will's like 'what the here I thought you hated this guy' but Octavian is being just as aggressive towards Will out of bitter jealousy for Will and Apollo's relationship but he won't admit that, so Nico jumps in to defend HIM because 'that's my boyfriend you jerk' so now he's basically like 'IF YOU TWO DON'T STOP BICKERING BACK THERE, I WILL TURN THIS CAR AROUND'
Will and Nico's relationship eventually gets mended with the power of communication and a lot of soft, tender moments in a cruel, vicious place, and Will actually starts to bond with Octavian, pretty much out of obligation because like... He's family. Bob basically plays bodyguard, and they're able to escape, seemingly scott-free.
Seemingly.
Because when they return to the surface with Octavian, and he tries to go back to camp Jupiter, Hazel's in charge. She's understandably angry, and banishes him from New Rome for the rest of his days. Which she has every right to do.
But she can't even look at Nico. Can't even speak to him. She just stands up from her throne and walks away, feeling wounded, feeling betrayed.
And at that moment, Nico realizes what he had to sacrifice.
His sister. Her love, her respect... His welcome on her turf. He will never be allowed to enter New Rome again.
And it breaks his heart again. Just when he thought it was so broken, that it couldn't get any more broken. He thought it was safe. But it somehow finds a new way to break.

Could Nico not just… shadow travel himself and the questing party out of Tartarus? I know it’s gonna take a lot of energy with it probably being himself, Will, Bob, Small Bob, and maybe Damasen and that Tartarus is a long way from the surface, but it’s much less of a risk than using the Doors. There’s probably a magical barrier keeping him from doing exactly this, but you never know until you try
And it’s a much more solid solution than waiting for an Annabeth ex machina with her non-canonical Christmas bracelet key

everytime i see things where ppl are like, upset at percy and blaming him for calypso still being on that island or like, forgetting abt bob im like....okay but when was he supposed to do smth abt either of them. and why is it supposed to be on him to do smth?
cause like, if we're talking calypso, he did what he could. he made the gods promise, he made zeus swear on the styx how was he supposed to know whether or not zeus actually followed through. and then he had what, a few months at best, recovering from a war, trying to focus on his mortal life, yk, pretty much all he wanted, before he was kidnapped by hera and the gods closed down communications. and then hes homeless and amnesiac and then hes going on quest after quest, like. he doesnt even have time to breathe, forgive the boy for not thinking of calypso in this time.
and bob/iapetus like. ive seen many percy is so "manipulative" and "toxic" takes in regards to him and like?? do ya'll even remember when percy and iapetus met? cause when they met iapetus was an enemy doing his damndest to kill thalia, percy, and nico. percy thinking fast and telling him they were "friends" was percy being smart and saving their lives. and he very clearly did have regrets in House of Hades abt how he left things off with bob too, like, that isnt the action of a self-absorbed hero at all.
