Adrien just wants to be a good malewife
AO3
Pairing - Adrinette
Prompt - ‘Baby’
Summary -
"Rest your head on my lap. You can comfortably put your legs on the other chairs." Adrien quipped, patting his thighs for emphasis. Marinette couldn't help but think that if he was an animal, his tail would be wagging (like an overeager black cat).
"But I'm not tired," She fibbed, averting her eyes when he glowered lightly, evident that he wasn't buying it at all. "Honest. You should spend your break doing things you love or have some fun. Not baby me. Especially since I don't need babying," She crossed her arms defiantly but all that did was make her seem even more childish.
Sadly for her (or luckily), since she lacked any energy, Adrien easily brought her to his lap, settling her head against his firm chest and positioning her knees around his hips. She hated just how warm and comfortable he was and it took her everything to not fall asleep right there and then as if he was the most comfortable bed she's ever laid on.
"Marinette, I love taking care of you," As if that alone didn't turn her to jelly, he began to tenderly comb his fingers through her smooth hair after taking the red ties out, his other arm pressing her tightly against him. "Would it be so bad to rest with me for a little while?"
~(x)~ . . . All class president duties tackled by Alya and the girls for the week? Check. Assistants found to work part-time at the Dupain-Cheng's Boulangerie? Check. And Chloé and Lila taken care of, far away as possible from his beloved Princesse? Check! Adrien couldn't help the pleased smile that played on his giddy lips, similar to the grins he'd wear as his alter ego, his mouth shaped in a prominent, mischievous, kitten-like 'w'. He eyed the sleep-deprived and tired designer lovingly, one of his arms hooked around her tiny waist so that she could lean her entire weight against him as he lead them to a quiet and vacant study room in the library. "Adrien, I'm fine. I don't need to rest. I have work to do on some homework and commissions right now-" Marinette's protest was met with a digit against her pouty lips, the blond shushing her with a smirk which only widened when she mustered up a weak glare. She was so fucking adorable. "None of our homework is due until the next week and your commissioners haven't given you a deadline. In fact, I recall them all telling you to take all the time you need, silly." Her frown only deepened at his words, a quiet growl escaping her throat as he giggled with endearment and finally led them to the quiet, empty study room. Marinette watched as he assembled three chairs together against the wall with haste, wordlessly allowing him to lead her on the second chair whilst he sat on the first. "Would it be so bad to rest with me for a little while?" 'This is cheating!' Marinette wanted to screech out loud when he peered down at her with his big, green eyes. The way he cutely tilted his head to the side and the pitiful pout he wore caused her breath to hitch in her throat. Damn those kitten eyes! "You're worse than Chat Noir..." Marinette thoughtlessly trailed off as she finally, finally fell asleep in his arms, not registering what she just muttered. For a split second, Adrien was stiff and tense but the sight of her peaceful face melted those sudden feelings away. He raised a brow, continuing to thread her hair through his fingers, deep in thought. "Your sleeping face looks an awful lot like my Lady's..." He murmured into her hair longingly. . . . ~(x)~

Please either feligami or felinette friendship. Would love to see sad smol Kagami hearing twins in her childhood au(hurt) then going to Feligami comfort of canon after s5 finale for the Feligami. For the Felinette just make them hug it out at some point after s5. You can also do Felix going to Mari for the cosmic macaroons and then going on flying date with Kagami. Whatever you like most :3
GiftFic for Anarchist Gang Server
*~*
To say that they were all feeling a little bit...under the weather was probably understating the facts by a considerable amount.
Felix had ended up in the center for the train ride back to Paris, Adrien on his left, Kagami on his right – though both of them were holding hands with each other as well.
Felix wanted a shower and to sleep for a thousand years. He could still feel his father’s hands around his neck, hear the way Kagami screamed as he fought his way through the nightmare to get to her.
But they were safe, they were together and safe – it was enough, wasn’t it? Except his uncle was dead, and Adrien had somehow managed to have a private chat with her and somehow ended up with completely the wrong impression as to the circumstances of his death.
Died defeating Monarch?
Felix supposed if it was true, in a logic-twisting sort of way.
He had to give Marinette credit for the mental gymnastics she must have been putting herself through. It was likely impressive.
But why? The why of it itched at the back of his brain, the logical parts of himself trying to make everything that had happened in the last seventy-two hours make even sort of sense in his head. Gabriel was dead, the Miraculous were back with their mistress – save for Duusu, who was sleeping in his pocket complaining of a ‘cosmic level migraine’ – Adrien had been delighted and charmed by the Kwami, fussing at him and babying him.
Felix hadn’t stopped him. Duusu was the only thing that had kept him even sort of sane through the nightmares.
He didn’t know if he could have made it through without the Kwami.
Marinette – Ladybug – was waiting for them at the train station, dark circles under her eyes and an exhausted expression on her face.
She nodded politely to his mother before she stepped forward and fell into Adrien’s arms. They clung, and there was a nauseating sort of backwash through the Peacock as their relief wrapped around each other.
Kagami elbowed him lightly in the side, and he made a face in response. She had done it, if in the weirdest way possible. She had done it. He had to give her that. He didn’t have to give her credit for lying to Adrien about the character of his father.
But defeating him? Ending the nightmares?
He probably owed her coffee or something.
“Kagami.” Marinette let go of Adrien long enough to hug Kagami, and then they both pulled Adrien into the hug.
Felix tried to tamp down a bit of jealousy, but she turned to look at him anyway, red eyes studying him. “Felix.”
“Don’t hug me.” He warned.
She snorted. “Why? You don’t want a chance to pick my pocket?”
Felix’s hand refleively came up to rest on his pocket. “Honestly, I know what you’re capable of. I’m more afraid of you picking mine.”
Marinette’s face softened slightly. “I’m not planning on anything of the sort.” She offered his hand, and he shook it cautiously. “Thanks for breaking them out of there.”
“Some backup might have been nice. But I understand there were other concerns.”
Marinette snorted, shaking her head. “Couldn’t be helped.”
“We’re glad you’re here now.” Kagami said softly. “It’s only been a week, and I feel we have so much to get caught up on.” Kagami took his hand, leaning into him.
Marinette glanced between them, slipping under Adrien’s arm. “I still have questions about this?”
“Getting kidnapped is very romantic.” Adrien deadpanned, resting his face on her shoulder. “Which is why I’m sorry to say, but I’m leaving you for my sensory deprivation chamber.”
Marinette rolled her eyes. “He really gave you nothing?”
“Well, I had a foosball table.” Adrien looked thoughtful. “I don’t think he realized it was a two person game.”
“He could have at least kidnapped Nino and left you with a friend.” Marinette muttered.
“Nino’s mom might have been upset.” Adrien pondered it for a moment, then shifted his head on her shoulder, arms wrapping around her waist.
Felix was familiar with the posture. It was Adrien’s ‘I’m about to make a terrible joke to change the subject’ stance, though he had never seen Adrien tuck himself behind anyone like this before.
They loved each other. His cousin was in love with Ladybug.
The girl that had saved them.
“We should go somewhere.” Kagami offered. “To catch everyone up.” She glanced at Marinette when she said that – but Felix had a feeling that it wasn’t going to be something they talked about until – well, later. Much later, probably. Maybe never.
Which saved Felix from the incoming terrible joke.
“I thought coffee and something to eat.” Marinette was aware of Adrien hiding behind her, but she was gentle, careful. Lacing their fingers together and letting him pull whatever it was he needed from her.
It was fascinating to watch. He hadn’t been sure what he would think of this Marinette – the one without any secrets, the one that he knew everything about. He hadn’t been sure when he shared the story that she would even listen.
But she had, and she had acted on it, and the fact had settled somewhere oddly inside him.
Marinette had done what no adult in his life, no person in his life had done – she had believed him, and then she had done something about what she had been told.
But at the same time, he barely knew her. He knew things about her – told to him by others, discovered on his own through accidental encounters. But they weren’t friends. They were at best reluctant allies on the matter of Adrien’s safety. Something she had killed for, unless his uncle had managed for once in his life to do something useful and just dropped dead.
(A part of him hated that he hadn’t been there, but the rest of him knew he couldn’t have been anywhere but where he had been, desperately trying to get to Kagami and Adrien.)
“They’re putting up a statue.” Adrien was saying to Marinette.
She pulled a face, but quickly turned her head so Adrien couldn’t see it. Which put her right in Felix’s line of sight.
He raised an eyebrow, and she rolled her eyes before turning back to Adrien with fake cheer.
Well, if she didn’t want him to say things like that, she shouldn’t have lied to him about the sort of person Gabriel Agreste had been.
*~*
She stops by his room on the way out, after hours spent ‘catching up’ while avoiding the elephant shaped problem in the room.
“Is he actually dead?” Felix asked over his shoulder, studying the windows critically. His mother had come into the house with a notebook and a remodeling crew, and gone room to room. There were bare spaces on the wall already from where pictures of the man himself had been. But he had a feeling that Adrien wanted to take a sledgehammer to these stupid windows.
“He’s dead.” Marinette confirmed, sliding down the wall.
“Did you kill him?” He wants to know the details, the truth of it. Not the pretty sanitized story she’s letting the media believe.
Marinette’s face is half in shadow, expression concealed, but she still shakes her head. “I didn’t.”
“Shame.”
She snorted, pulling her hands to her chest. “He’s your uncle.”
“Sure.” Felix turns and sits on the floor facing her. “And if you or someone hadn’t killed him, he would have set his sights on me once he had what he wanted.”
She winces, looking down at her hands. “I thought I had reached him.”
“So you let your guard down?” His uncle was a brilliant manipulator, if nothing else in his life was his the way he twisted and remade people – Sanculur was a good example of just how far he could drag people down. His aunt, too, probably. Adrien. How many people had his uncle left ruined in his wake?
“I did. He used Venom.” Her hands pressed against themselves. A ring, her earrings.
She was wearing them both. She was casually wearing two objects of utmost power on her person.
She had better be glad he had decided he liked this world, imperfect as it was.
“He made a wish.” Felix intoned, frowning.
“Except, I don’t know what he wished for. Plagg and Tikki won’t tell me- can’t tell me.”
Duusu popped out of his shirt, peering at her. “What about Nooroo?”
Marinette’s face fell, hands lifting to her hair. “I can’t find him.”
Felix felt his stomach sink. “You can’t-”
“He’s the only one. I recovered the rest.” But Nooroo, the one that had been suffering the longest.
There was pressure on his chest, the edge of a panic attack, the twisting, sinking feeling.
“It’s not over.” His mouth says.
“Until I find Nooroo. It can’t be over.” She whispered, hands in her hair, pulling the dark strands.
“And Duusu?” Felix asked carefully.
Marinette’s eyes darted up to him, blinking. “What about Duusu?”
His mouth was dry as he ran his thumb over the broach. “You’re the guardian.”
“Yes?” Marinette stared at him. “Oh. Well. As long as you don’t plan on any more world destroying Sentibeings, I think he can stay with you. He seems to like you. Right, Duusu?”
“Felix is great!” Duusu chirped, rubbing against his cheek.
Something in his chest unraveled all at once, a relief he hadn’t been expecting flooding his entire body. “Really?”
“Felix.” She hesitated, looking away. “The person with the Peacock holds my heart. Because they hold Adrien’s existence in the palm of their hands. They hold Kagami’s – and yours. Anyone with the Peacock could destroy either of them if they decided not to value them.”
He nodded. “That’s why I needed it.”
She smiled, sad. “I know that, now. I didn’t at the time. I think...if we’d worked together sooner, we would have found a better way. But what’s done is done. Monarch is...is dead.” Her voice quivered slightly. “The Kwami are back, safe.”
“Except Nooroo.”
“Except Nooroo.” She answered, voice bleak.
Impulsive, he reached out to take her hand. “We’ll find him.”
Her smile was tentative, eyes on his. “We’ll find him.”

Enchanted
A/N: Jasonette one-shot inspired by Taylor Swift's "Enchanted". Thanks to @forgottenfriends for inspiring me to adapt it to a Royal AU💜
If anyone wants to be part of a permanent or Maribat-specific tag list DM me or leave a comment. Constructive criticism or any feedback is appreciated!
~1.2k words
Marinette was tired of being at the royal family of Gotham's ball. Even the Wayne children, who usually livened up their father's dull parties, were being abnormally well-behaved.
She excused herself from the vapid conversation and found what appeared to be a good hiding spot. Escaping, she scanned the room for anyone who noticed her disappearing and accidentally locked eyes with someone. They were such a gorgeous colour; she almost wanted to talk to their owner just so she could examine them up close. A vision of a suit for next season incorporating the colour floated in front of her and she wished again to have her sketchbook. If she'd met the person before her hasty appointment as the royals' official seamstress, maybe she could have livened up this ball's outfits (her predecessor had very little vision and left to her half-finished outfits that she despaired over)...
The crowd parted and the owner of the hypnotizing eyes stepped in front of her. Marinette was torn from her half-finished design and realized she was staring, blushing profusely.
He gave a quick nod of his head. “Have we met before?” he asked charmingly. “I'm sure I would remember meeting someone with such good style as yourself before.”
“No, we haven't. I thank you for your compliment; I'm MDC.”
“Jason Todd-Wayne, at your service.” His lips just brushed the back of her hand as he bowed over it.
“Enc-delighted to make your acquaintance.”
“So, why do you look so bored?”
“Socializing with the elites is exhausting and your siblings are being remarkably polite for once.” Marinette clapped her hand over her mouth. Dang sleep deprivation. “I'm so sorry! I've just heard about previous galas and your family's antics, that wasn't meant...”
Jason laughed. “It's fine! When they're quiet like this, they're usually planning something, so keep an eye out if you want your dress to remain unscathed. Do you have a name or shall I call you M?”
“You haven't earned my name yet, monsieur, so M will have to do.”
“What does earning it involve?”
“Mmm, normally you'd have to be family or a close friend, or a loyal patron for over two years.”
“Would a waltz make us close enough friends?” He extended his hand with a flourish, which she took.
“Perhaps. No stepping on my toes, though,” she warned.
“I'll have you know I never step on people's toes unless they deserve it,” he said in mock offence as they move onto the dancefloor.
Although Marinette was a good dancer (thanks to several years of ballet when she was younger, which kept her light on her feet), she did not particularly enjoy it, but Jason was an excellent partner and kept her entertained with gossip and 'secrets' about fellow dancers and the royal family, so the time flew by faster than they did around the ballroom.
When Jason led her to the refreshments table for a cup of punch, a pretty blonde in a layered purple tulle dress approached the duo and cheerfully asked, “who's your new friend, Jay?” as she looped her arm through Jason's.
“None of your business,” he shot back.
Marinette noticed the girl tapping Jason's arm possessively. She'd given him her calling card and had considered inviting him for a free consultation (yes, she just wanted to use his eyes for her new ideas, she shamelessly admitted it, but she also wanted to spend more time with him) but now those thoughts vanished. Far be it from her to get tangled up in court relationships.
Swallowing, she excused herself and retrieved her wrap, heading out to her transportation home. She looked back once at the lights and glamour—sorry, clamour. The chandeliers had begun raining glitter and the unsuspecting crowd was soon covered in it, minus the royal family, of course, who had stepped away in time.
Replaying the evening in her mind as she was driven home, she found herself blushing as she recalled Jason's smooth lines and interested countenance. She'd thought he was flirting with her, interested in her, but obviously, the blonde had other ideas, whether Jason agreed or not. Marinette refused to be part of another love triangle, even if she'd also been the other girl in the previous one.
She stepped inside and found herself humming one of the pieces the 4-piece orchestra had played as she danced with Jason, her feet following the steps as she prepared for bed, finally. She'd moved to Gotham, been instated as the royal seamstress, gone over her predecessor's things and organized her workrooms to suit herself, gone over the royals' designs for tonight's ball (thankfully half were done and she only needed to add her signature touches and glam to the remaining four outfits), and then had to work on said clothing with her new crew of fellow textile workers.
This left very little time for sleep, and Marinette had been counting the minutes until she could politely leave her first Gotham ball for her bed. She was grateful that King Bruce has given her an invitation so she could see her designs in action and get a sense of what would be required for future events, but that was mostly overshadowed by her wish for sleep.
The clock struck two as she crawled between her sheets. Ah, blessed, comfy bed.
A knock on her door made her sit up angrily. Could she not get one peaceful, complete, uninterrupted night of sleep?!
She yanked her fluffy robe closed and flung the door open to see Jason on her step, still in his suit.
“Jason?”
He smiled, a little nervously. “Hey, M. I never got your full name; your card just has your initials and your address. Isn't that a bit backward? Anyways, you left before I could tell you I was enchanted to meet you.”
“Would you like to come in? Unless you have someone waiting for you?” Please don't.
“Nah, I don't. You're sure?”
“Of course...it was enchanting to meet you too. I wanted to tell you...”
He chuckled as he stepped in. “That was the doing of my older brother Dick and my younger brother's girlfriend, Stephanie. She's the one you met with me—she was warning me to move out of the way. I was going to sweep you off your feet and play your knight-in-not-shiny-armour, but you left. Did you read the Morse code?”
Marinette's eyes widened. “That's what that tapping was! Oh, I thought she was your girlfriend. So you're not in love with someone else, then...?”
“Nope. Were you worried?” he smirked.
“...maybe,” she drawled. “Well, you came out this late so I suppose I should reward your efforts. My name is Marinette. Marinette Dupain-Cheng.”
“Beautiful like you.”
Her cheeks flushed at the compliment. “So...this is just the first page?”
“Of our relationship? I hope it's not the end, I just got ypur name!” Jason joked. “I suppose I should leave you to your rest, mademoiselle. Enchanté.”
“Enchanté. Good night, Jason!” Marinette waved him off and went back to bed, dreaming of dancing with Jason, staring into his gorgeous eyes. He really was enchanting.

WE DON’T TALK ABOUT THAT COMICCON! #2 - Let’s just blow it up and call it a day
Previous - Masterlist (not yet)
Tim was an inch away from committing murder. And it was a big statement if he looked at his really irritating - finally teenager - little - ex-assassin - brother. He knew he was the one who let the brat organize everything… Let him be in control! But… but this was a felony! “What do you mean I can’t drink coffee?”
After a devastating glare Damian finally answered. “Father and Pennyworth both think you are consuming too much caffeinated and sugared beverages so they entrusted me to supervise your water intake. Only water intake.”
That emphasis was a little bit weird to him and maybe aggressive(?). The ‘only’ meant he couldn’t drink anything else. The ‘ONLY’ meant he couldn’t taste anything within a right caffeine level. “You are a demon!”
“Of course.”
The pride was too shining.
He muttered some more curses under his breath then turned to his little hobbit for directions. “So my absolutely little demon,” he got a real deadly stare now but who cares!? “Where does our journey take us next?” And during their walkthrough if he would be able to acquire an event map so it would be easier to check out where he would be able to potentially get coffee, nobody needed to know.
Especially his watchguard.
“Tt.” The characteristic reply before the ultimate mission discourse. “I think the best course of action is if we visit the game section first. There we both can enjoy our favorite plays and try out some new software together too.”
Huh?
It’s quite a nice strategy? Like he really thought and logistics it out for him? He was a little bit surprised. “The CheeseViking got a new update, right?”
Some contribution at least from his side. He could hang out with his little brother for a weekend. He was able to do it without any quarrel.
Or thinking about his miserable life decisions.
“And Ultimate Mecha Strike V. too.” Yepp, the language of nerds was always a neutral topic between the two. Sometimes they could rope Jay in it too but Dick… The ancient one was a lost cause.
As they got closer to the gaming section he acquired an event flyer (or two for emergency). Without being too suspicious for the brat’s liking he scanned the areas for buffets or some staff room. Because staff rooms always had good access to caffeinated beverages. Their deprived souls needed it just like him.
The best timing could be when Damian would be immersed in the ChesseViking saga so he would be able to sneak away to the closest coffee site.
But first the gamer section. At least he could try out the newest UMS game.
The countdown has begun.
*
Finally Marinette was able to break away from the artist duo and more importantly from the chaperone duo who promised her parents they will keep away any caffeinated drink from their precious daughter. Despite their precious daughter’s volition, who only could survive that many people (and lack of sleep) on high caffeine.
Oh, it's the gaming section. She almost walked past it.
Hmm.. Maybe she could try out some new software first. She looked down to Tikki who carefully perked at her from the side bag. The little Goddess's disapproving eyes showed how much she believed in her and her - mythical - coffee-free life.
Ugh…
Just for Tikki I will be strong! (… for now.)
With a sigh she lined up to the new UMSV. game. Of course she already tried it out since she was the European Champion for four years straight and the developers let her beta test the whole software half a year before the release. And she ‘surprisingly’ enjoyed it. It had more diversity than any earlier games and the graphics were phenomenal too.
The only big negative thing was that she couldn’t compete any longer in the UMS tournaments.
Pity…
The two boys who were playing that moment were also super competitive and would be really exciting to slash them down. The younger one was a little aggressive to her liking but the older one was more sluggish… Maybe he also needed his high caffeine level. She chuckled. And looking at the line in front of her… her system also demanded more caffeine than to play a game of which she already knew every corner.
She was a little bit confused or her thoughts jumped a random way… Surely from the lack of coffee.
She shrugged. All the same. Tikki will be bribed with some american cookies and she will enjoy some coffee without any drama.
Or so she thought.
Just as she would have received the cup - the barista’s hands held the God’s liquid out already - Nathaniel appeared out of nowhere (or from that huge crowd of the con). For some moments the time froze up and they just eyed each other. Nathaniel more of a “what do you think you are doing?” glare and she with an “I’m trying to survive” look.
Then Marinette grabbed the cup and bolted…
She will not be caught alive.

MLB × FIRST KILL AU
It was exactly 1:20 am when I start writing this, so most of it might just be sleep deprivation, but I want to share it
So I decided to rewatch First Kill (you know, the lesbian vampire/vampire hunter series that Netflix canceled) for no reason at all, and since my addiction to Miraculosa had also returned, I began to wonder... SO!
Spoiler warning
Possible triggers(?): Mention of blood, mention of murder
Our protagonists
Marinette Dupain-Cheng: Our sweet, gentle vampire who has never killed anyone or drunk blood directly from a person. She's just turned 16 and her family was pressuring her to finally kill someone. But how could someone who has lived among humans all her life kill one just to feed? Not her. Not until she had to defend the girl she liked.
Kagami Tsurugi: The youngest daughter of a famous hunting family. After failing in her first hunt, she gets a new chance after discovering a clan of vampires in the city; if she killed one of them, she would win her mother and clan's approval. But that vampire was so sweet, so innocent, so... Oh, no, she'd developed feelings for her!
The Dupain-Cheng's, the most respected family among vampires
Sabine: The matriarch, future protector of the Serpent and, unfortunately, her mother's dismay.
Tom: The man Sabine turned into a vampire so they could be together for eternity
Socqueline: The protective big sister, she seems harmless until she has to be fed
Bridgette: Socqueline's "evil" twin, a misunderstood soul who disappeared years ago
The Tsurugi's, an ancient lineage of hunters
Tomoe: The strict mother. She had a difficult past after being blinded by a monster, but she rebuilt herself and now has a family to protect
Wu Shifu (I'll think of a name for him later): The honorable man who was promised in marriage to Tomoe after the "incident"
Longg: Wu's son from his first marriage, a calm boy. The Tsurugi clan has turned its back on him, but he doesn't care
Fei: The adopted daughter, it took a while for the Tsurugi clan to accept her, but now she's the heir and a cool older sister
Other characters
Felix Graham de Vanille: A witch involved with Bridgette, he plans something for his partner's hometown
Adrien Agreste: Marinette's best friend. He has a complicated relationship with an older student, which none of his friends approve of
The two are related, but do not know each other
Alya: Also Marinette's best friend, I don't know what to do with her, but she's here
Lila Rossi: She dies and comes back as a zombie and dies again
Chloe: Kagami's ex. She is a little more tolerable, although she still uses her parents' high status as hunters
Andre e Audrey: They show up to die
Nino: One of Marinette's few vampire friends. He should only appear once
The plot
Kagami and her family have just moved to this town in the French countryside. In the past, the town was overrun by monsters, but none have been seen for years thanks to the hunters. Now they're back, and the Tsurugis have to find out why.
There's this strange girl who stares at Kagami at school and gets into accidents when Kagami is around. This behavior makes Kagami suspicious of her, so she starts staring back.
Marinette finally finds the courage to approach her and invites her to a party at Lila's house. Her perfume has a distinctive smell that makes Kagami discover that Marinette is a vampire.
At the party, they sit alone for a while, talking, until they notice their faces coming closer. For some reason, Kagami's scent is strangely attractive and, without thinking, Marinette bites her neck, which causes Kagami to react and pull out a silver knife and strike Marinette's heart. Kagami runs away thinking she had killed her.
She didn't.
I could explain more and go into a whole alternative world, but I really need to sleep now. This will probably have a part 2 next time I can't sleep on time.

All is Calm, the Future's Bright
This is my @mlsecretsanta gift for @juliettelime! You wanted some sweet holiday fluff, so I hope this delivers the feels. Merry Christmas!
Adrien leaned against the door frame, staring at the blue-black messy bun that was bent obsessively over the desk.  He smiled.  He had known from day one of his lady’s brilliant, creative mind and her ability to bring the most convoluted plans to fruition, but the same intensity that had led them safely through hundreds of battles also led her to get easily overwhelmed by deadlines and panic over setbacks.
“Of course, knowing that Ladybug is Marinette means I know how to take care of her when she gets like this,”  he thought warmly.  It was just what made her the woman he loved, the woman he needed in his life as much as the air he breathed.
Padding softly across the crimson rug of her studio, he eased up behind her.  Moving slowly so as not to trigger her selfdefense skills - it took getting thrown off a building only once to get that through his thick skull - he placed the mug of hot chocolate on the desk where she could see it but there was no way she could knock it over.
Then, bending over, he kissed the back of her neck gently, the loose curls hanging there delightfully tickling his nose.
“Hmmm,” was her only response, a questioning lilt in her hum as her stylus skated over the tablet.
“It’s getting late, love,” he murmured, breathing in deeply of the scents of flowers and citrus in her hair and the deeper, more personal scent of her that drove him to distraction even when he wasn’t transformed.  “You’ve been at it all day.”
Marinette sighed.  “I was just trying to get this finished.  You know the spring line needs to be in production by mid-January and-“
“Yes, I know,” he interrupted, wrapping his arms around her.  “But I know you also need to rest well to work hard, Princess, and you have been skimping on sleep again.”
He felt her cheek grow warm against his.  “How did you know?”
He let her go and spun her chair around so he could see her face.  “What, you don’t think this old cat doesn’t notice when half the bed gets cold?  Besides you have been depriving me of the joy of having my wife wake up in my arms in the morning.”
Her blush deepened, but her eyes sparkled.  “I’m not sure I’ll ever get used to you saying things like that without the mask.”
Holding himself over her on the arms of her chair, he leaned in with a smirk.  “Oh, trust me!  I’m worse when you’re not around.  Nino says I’m an unbearable sap and most of the other guys either make gagging noises or pretend to call their dentist.”
A smirk of her own spread across her lips as she tapped him on the nose.  “It’s your own fault for being such a sweet talker, Kitty.”
His heart skipped a beat.  Even after eight years together in one way or another, he would never get over her punning back at him.  “Oh, and when she smirks like that I am liable to kiss her senseless!”
“Speaking of sweet, you should drink your hot chocolate before it cools,” he said with a sigh.  “And if you don’t come down by the time I’m finished with mine, I will come fetch you myself.”
Her smirk widened into a mischievous grin.  “You know that does’t give me much motivation to do that, don’t you?”
He growled and spun her chair around playfully.  “I am giving you five more minutes, little bug, then I’m canceling our reservations.”
He saw her eyes widen in surprise before he sprinted for the door, barely hearing her panicked cry of “Reservations?!  What-“ over his laughter.
Adrien chuckled all the way down the stairs of their townhouse, enjoying the mischief he had caused his Lady.  Marinette could take it, of course, and give as good as she got, but she had been working too hard for the last six months and she had to relax and get the rest she needed in order to be her best.  It was no mean feat, as she was trying to get her fashion boutique up and running, but he made sure she got it, by hook or by crook.
He made himself a cup of hot chocolate and settled on the couch, thumbing through his phone’s contacts with a subtle smirk.  Just keeping up with his lady was a full time job.
In less than five minutes, Marinette rushed down the stairs, empty mug in hand and a chocolate mustache on her upper lip.  “There.  All done,” she panted, looking at him with worried eyes.  “What was this about reservations?  Adrien, I’m sorry!  I must have forgotten -“
Standing up, he moved to her side.  It had been a shock several years ago to learn exactly how drawn to Marinette he had always been, even before he had learned she was Ladybug.  She had always been his lodestone, whether with the mask or without.
“Shhh.  The only thing you have forgotten is to take care of yourself, love,” he soothed.  Reaching out, he wiped the chocolate from her lip and then licked it off his finger.  “You take care of everything and everyone except yourself, Marinette.”
She sighed.  “Comes from being a hero too long, I guess.  I’m just used to it.  Kind of hard to break that sort of habit.”
“And that is why you have me.  To take care of you so you can take care of everything else.”
She smiled at him crookedly.  “I don’t deserve it, you know.”
He scoffed at that.  “My lady, I would find a way to bring you all the stars of the Milky Way on a diamond chain if it would make you smile.  What’s a little thing like making sure you sleep and eat regularly?”
At that moment her stomach rumbled loud enough to be mistaken for an angry monster.  They exchanged looks and burst out laughing!
“Speaking of which,” she said, laughter still on her lips, “I believe someone said something about reservations?”
The doorbell rang throughout the town house.
Marinette sighed.  “If it is Stella with more fabric samples tell her I'm not home!”  Her voice was petulant but her lips still quirked in a smile.
Adrien kissed her on the forehead and went to answer the door.  He saw her face turn confused when he returned with two delivery bags full of take out boxes.
“But I thought-“
“Our reservations, my love, are for the most exclusive location in town.  Invitation only.”  He set the bags down on the coffee table and started unpacking them.  The heady scents of garlic and marjoram filled the air and he saw Marinette’s eyes light up when she saw the restaurant name on the bags.
“You ordered from Prima Vera?  You remembered!”
“That you love their lasagna?  Yes, but the location goes hand in hand with the meal.  So you go get dressed in something cozy while I finish laying it out.”
“Cozy?”  She wrapped her arms around his waist from behind, rubbing her face against his shoulder blade.  “Shouldn’t I dress for the occasion, Kitty?  A date at an invitation only spot sounds very exclusive - black tie at the very least.”
“It generally is,” he replied with a smirk, pulling one of her hands up to press a kiss to her palm.  “But tonight it is lady’s choice.  Besides, I …ahem… happen to know the owner.”
“Really.”
“Oh yes.”  Adrien left the boxes on the table and turned around so he could hold her.  “He happens to be dead gone on you and would do anything to make his dream princess happy.”
“He sounds sweet,” she replied coyly, looking up at him through her lashes.  She rose up on her toes to press a soft kiss to the corner of his mouth.  “But I hope you told him I have a very jealous husband and cat at home.”
“He knows, my love.  I go off to duel with him at dawn over you.  If I don’t come back, Cat Noir can have you with my blessing.”
Marinette fell into a fit of giggles, laughing so hard she ran out of breath and was left gasping in his arms, clinging to him to remain upright.
“You’re ridiculous!”  He grinned widely at her happy smile as she wiped laugh tears from her cheeks.  “Adrien, you always know how to make me laugh!”
“Good!  Step one of Operation: Holidate has made a successful start!”  He turned her and gave her a gentle push towards the stairs.  “Now, you go get dressed in something comfortable while I slip a twenty to the manager for a prime table in front of the fire.”
She chuckled on her way up the stairs to their room.
“Thank you for planning all this, Adrien,” Tikki said, flying out of the kitchen with two cloth napkins.  “Our girl works too hard.  She’s always put so much pressure on herself to get things done.  Whether that meant fighting akumas, homework, competitions, or presents for friends, she has trouble knowing when to ask for help.”
“But that’s why she has us.”  He went and grabbed two of their good china plates and some silverware, laying everything out nicely on the coffee table.  He lit a fire in the fireplace and candles all around the room, giving it a romantic, golden glow.  He even laid out little plates in the kitchen for their kwamis with some fried mozzarella for Plagg and a slice of chocolate torte for Tikki.
The little red kwami flew up to his cheek for a fond nuzzle.  “You’re so thoughtful.  Thank you.”
He smiled and stroked the top of her head the way he often would for Plagg.  “You’re welcome,  Tikki.  You are so considerate that it is a pleasure to do nice things for you.”
There was a derogatory snort from Plagg and Tikki rolled her eyes.  “He should say thank you too, but he is too busy stuffing his face, as usual!”
There was a loud gulp followed by an even louder burp.  “Lay off, Tiks!  If you keep being this sweet, you’ll spoil him after I finally got him trained up right!”
Adrien chuckled.  “Just be thankful I’m not telling her about your teaching methods, you old stinker!”
“You can’t scare me until you’ve been around the block a few thousand times, Kitten!”
“Well, in that case, I’m sure Tikki would love to hear about the time when you encouraged me to sneak into Marinette’s room while she was out and-“
Suddenly his face was full of nervous, black kwami trying desperately to cover his mouth.  Adrien burst out laughing as Tikki shot Plagg a look that could blister paint and tackled him out of the air.
“What was that all about?”
He turned to see Marinette smirking at him with a raised eyebrow.  Adrien’s breath caught in his throat at the sight.  Her raven hair spilled around her shoulders in silky waves, held away from her face by a pink cloth headband.  She wore one of his dress shirts, the sleeves rolled up enough for her hands to show, and a worn pair of grey leggings.  She was beautiful, alluring in a way that only she could be for him and she did it without really trying.
A few years ago, Adrien would have been stunned stupid by the sight, but younger Adrien had been too afraid to speak his heart honestly.  He knew better now, he knew her better now, and he wasn’t afraid to say what was in his heart to the woman who held it gently in her own hands.
He stepped up to her, his hands running up and down her arms slowly, soothingly, despite the rapid tempo of his heartbeat.  “Have I ever told you what seeing you in my clothes does to me?”
Marinette looked up at him coyly and pretended to straighten his collar.  “Hmmm, at least once.  I believe there might have been something about kissing me senseless, but I was a little distracted at the time.”
“Didn’t Maman teach you never to eat dessert first,” he chided with a smirk of his own.  “You’ll spoil our lovely dinner.”
“You’ll spoil me, more likely,” she whispered and rose on her toes to kiss him softly.  “But you are right.  I’m starving and everything smells amazing!”
So they sat on the sofa, eating delicious food and listening to some soft jazz as they watched the firelight dance in each other’s eyes.  It was a beautiful moment, like the world had paused just for them to enjoy and Adrien burned it into his heart to remember forever.  There had been so many years of loneliness, heartache, fear, hurt, confusion, and, finally, acceptance before they had found each other.
Marinette was his storm anchor, holding him fast when the world threatened to spiral out of control.  She had been there for him through it all, giving of herself and her golden heart long before he understood what love really was.  She fought his demons when he was no longer able to fight for himself.  She was his laughter, his peace, his home.
And now, with her lying curled against his chest within the circle of his arms, he felt overwhelmed by the gift she always gave him.
“I love you, Princess,” he murmured softly, kissing her forehead with all the tenderness of his overflowing heart.  “I don’t know how I could have made it this far without you.  You are so precious to me, Marinette, and you need to take more time for you.  For us.  I need time with you.  You are what makes me feel whole and alive.  I… I’ve missed you, little bug.”
She looked up at him with eyes full of love and tears welling up in the corners.  “I’ve missed you too, Kitty.  I just know how much you disliked modeling for … that man and I don’t want to bring back unpleasant memories for you.  You’ve been so good about supporting me, but-“
He placed a gentle finger against her lips.  “None of that!  I love you, Marinette!  I have always supported your dreams of being a fashion designer!  Always!  And believe me, there is a world of difference between helping you with your boutique and working for Gabriel.  You are thoughtful and considerate of my needs, you listen respectfully when I offer suggestions, and you want to work with me.  More than anything, you love me and it shows in everything you do, my lady.  I look forward to building new memories at your side for the rest of our lives, but I need you to step out of your bubble in order to do that.  Okay?”
She blushed and sighed.  “You’re right.  I’ve just been trying to do it on my own and try to keep you from getting hurt.  You know that is the last thing I would ever want, right?”
He nodded and stroked a tendril of hair behind her ear.  “I know, but there are no more akumas… no more chances for broken moons, no mater what our nightmares may tell us.  So let me in more and come out more yourself.  You’re doing yourself no good staying locked away in your studio all day.”
She smiled up at him.  “Have I told you how much I like it when you stand firm like that?”
“Not recently,” he drawled, cuddling her closer to him.
“Well, I do.  Like it, I mean.  It makes me feel safe… protected… loved.”  She yawned hugely, stretching like a kitten on his lap.
“It really is getting late now, my love.”  He chuckled ruefully.  “I got down the boxes of garlands and things earlier.  I thought we could do some decorating, but you need sleep more than holiday spirit.”
She giggled sleepily, blinking her cornflower eyes slowly at him in a way that warmed him all over.  “Just so you know, I don’t deserve you.”
“So what do you deserve for saving the world a thousand times before getting out of university?”
Marinette leaned up and kissed him lightly on the end of his nose.  “A happy ending?”  She sighed and snuggled back against him.  He breathed in her sweet scent and sighed contentedly.  It was the scent of home.
He knew she would be asleep soon, but he didn’t want the moment to end just yet.  He wrapped his arms around her more firmly and settled deeper into the sofa, watching the firelight sparkle off the satin of her hair.
“Sounds good,” he whispered.  “As long as it’s with you.”

At this point in time I'm truly invested in the Maribat Fandom and would love a small sleep deprived interaction with Marinette and Tim. Something a long line like this.
*Marinette has to finish her commission and hasn't had sleep for 5 days straight or more and has just recently finished her coffee stash so she has to go and find more coffee.* *she went to a coffee shop that coincidentally Tim is also a regular in and ordered the strongest coffee there.* *Marinette tries to find seat but everywhere is full and she spot a man who is as sleep deprived as him and went over to talk.* *But because her sleep deprived addled mind is not equipped for a normal conversation yet it goes a little like this.*
Marinette: *walks over to Tim* Brethren?
Tim: *looks up to a more sleep deprived looking human like him.* Brethren.
Marinette: *Gesture the seat in front of him.* Sit?
Tim: *Nods with a grunt.*
Marinette: *grunts as a thanks*

Even the Losers
Chapter 18
Chapter 1     Chapter 17
Mari waved up at Nightwing before turning toward the café.  He grinned and waved back.  No sense of embarrassment at getting caught like Red Robin had the day before.  She didn’t know enough about him to know if it was because he wasn’t hiding, Red Robin had given him a warning that she knew someone would be there, or because he had no sense of embarrassment, or most likely, a combination of all of those.
Adrien looked up and grinned too.  “What time did he take over?”
Marinette shrugged and cut through the café’s outdoor seating.  “Later than yesterday.  When did Dick leave?  It was some time after that.”
Adrien looked at him for a moment and shook his head. He looked back at Marinette before the memory of sleep deprived Marinette hit him.  He grimaced.  It was hit or miss whether she would be funny, emotional, or a danger to herself. If Batman was the same… “I really hope Batman doesn’t have a day job because with all the all-nighters he’s pulling, he would have to be a zombie at work.”
Marinette giggled at the idea.  “Can you imagine Batman with a day job?  What do you think he does?  Like, could you imagine him as a kindergarten teacher?”  Marinette’s giggles grew into full blown laughter. She finally was able to gasp out, “Batman complimenting some little kid’s rainbow and assuring them that making the entire rainbow the same color was extremely creative and beautiful.  Or trying to guess what animal they drew.”
Adrien laughed and patted her arm to get her to stop.  “Wait, wait. Batman crouching next to a toddler and explaining for the eighth time in the last three minutes that Pete the Cat is in fact a cat, not a dog before patting them on the head and walking away to scream into a nap mat.”
Marinette Laughed hard enough she almost missed the door handle.  She jumped when Adrien suddenly grabbed her arm.  She turned to him wide eyed but she immediately relaxed.  He was bouncing on the balls of his feet with excitement.  “No, no, no.  A PA to some… NO, to M. Wayne!  Batman as M. Wayne’s PA.  Oh my God, can you imagine?”
Marinette giggled and shook her head at him, pushing through the door.  Well, that would certainly explain why the bats seemed so close to the Waynes.  She spotted Duke and waved.  He jumped up and waved them over.  “Hey, Duke.  I hope you don’t mind that I brought Adrien.”
“Not at all,” Duke gave them both a hug.  He looked toward the bathroom with a smile. “Good to see you again, man.  I hope you don’t mind that Cass and I both brought someones too.”  Cass and Stephanie were walking toward them with a red headed woman in a wheelchair. Duke leaned toward them and lowered his voice so the women approaching couldn’t hear him.  “Brought is a really liberal term for what happened.  I am so sorry.  I knew we shouldn’t have mentioned meeting with you in front of Stephanie.”
“Hey Cass,” Marinette called out.  She and Adrien waved at her.  “Good to see you again, Stephanie.”
Cass waved back and nodded with a wide smile. “Marinette!” Stephanie chirped. “I’d say what a coincidence we ran into you guys here…”
“But that would be a lie,” Barbara finished for her. “Hi,” she held out her hand for them, “I’m Barbara.”
Marinette smiled and stepped forward to shake her hand. “It’s nice to meet you.  I’ve heard a lot about you.”
“Well yeah we crashed,” Stephanie rolled her eyes and dropped into a seat across from Marinette.  She sent a playful glare toward Duke.  “You guys have been keeping her all to yourselves all week.  It’s our turn to hang out with her again.  Not to mention I wanted to catch up with the woman who fed the Riddler’s own balls to him for everyone to see.”
“And we wanted to see how you’re doing after it,” Barbara added with a chastising look to Stephanie.  She turned to side eye Duke.  “We tried to check with the boys but they were less than helpful.”
Marinette shrugged and leaned back slightly, not enough for anyone else in the café to notice but everyone else at the table picked up on it.  “I’m fine. It wasn’t bad.  More embarrassed he caught me in the first place.”
Stephanie waved her off.  “Please,” she scoffed.  “He had to knock out like an entire block just to get you.  That’s better than some of the bats.”
“Well, you look like you’re healing well,” Barbara nodded with a supportive smile.
Marinette smiled as naturally as she could and tried to control how much she was shifting in her seat.  She really, really hated talking about the whole thing with not only people who didn’t know she had been a superhero, but with the Waynes after that dinner, so that was two strikes against discussing this right now.
She’d been able to joke about it and moan about how contrived the whole setup with Alya and Nino.  They’d laughed all night about the audacity.  Not only had he thought he could stump her with a question about Chat Noir, he thought he would win against her in a game that relied on luck or rather bad luck not striking.  It was almost enough to make her forget the way the dinner had ended.  It was exactly what she had needed.  But she couldn’t do that here.
“Yeah,” she chuckled anxiously.  “My cheek seems to be doing well.  I’m hoping I can cover it with makeup by next week.”
“How’s your shoulder?” Duke asked motioning toward the shoulder she’d rammed into the doorframe when she was running away.
Marinette blinked at him a few times before she quirked her head to the side, her face scrunching in confusion.  “How did you know about that?”
She could see the rest of the table tense up, Adrien included but for the same reason as her, confusion on how he’d known. She had no idea why the rest were tensing up.  Duke chuckled awkwardly, sending looks over to the women at the table.  “He’s covering for me,” Barbara finally spoke up.
“Why is… what is he covering up for?” Marinette asked cautiously.
“My father is the police commissioner,” she said quietly.  “I may have snuck a look at the police report… slightly illegally… and read about your injuries.”
Marinette shook her head.  “But, I didn’t tell them about that.”
“No,” Barbara acknowledged, “but Signal did.”
Marinette nodded, trying to process that information. “Huh,” was all she managed to eke out. Her mind raced trying to figure out what to say next.  She was saved from trying to figure out how to move the conversation along by the waiter. The topic seemed to fade away naturally as everyone put in their order.
As soon as the waiter left, Duke clapped his hands with a bright smile.  “So, Steph, you said again.  I take it you guys have met before?”
“At the gala,” Adrien nodded.  “Only briefly though.  We,” he motioned between him and Stephanie, “spoke for a little bit, but Marinette only spoke with her for a few seconds.”
Stephanie grimaced at the reminder.  “Yeah… not exactly the ideal meeting.”
Marinette waved her off.  “Not your fault.  Don’t worry about it.”  She sent her a sincere smile.
“No,” Stephanie agreed.  “It’s Bruce’s.”
Cass pulled out a credit card with a wicked grin. “On Bruce.”
Barbara nodded.  “Exactly.  Therefore, this lunch is on Bruce.  Maybe we should go shopping after this too?”  She raised an eyebrow at Marinette.
Marinette giggled and shook her head.  “No, thank you.  That’s okay.  I’m good.”
Stephanie’s eyes lit up.  She leaned closer to Marinette like she was sharing a secret. “Speaking of the gala, how did you get tickets to the gala anyway?  We never figured it out.”  Barbara groaned lightly and smacked her on the shoulder.  They had just changed the subject.  Marinette probably did not want to talk about the gala, where they raved about their family and the newest member, which was not her and did not did not include her.
Instead of freezing up or withdrawing, like Barbara worried she would, Marinette started laughing.  Her eyes were sparkling with mirth.  She leaned closer to them over the table and lowered her voice. “I pimped out my friend,” she confided with a smirk.
The rest of the table froze until Adrien groaned and Stephanie and Duke started laughing loud enough to draw disapproving looks from neighboring tables.  Cass raised an eyebrow, but her lips were quirked up in amusement.  “Say that again,” Barbara prompted.
Marinette shrugged and took a sip of her drink.  “I don’t know if it counts as pimping if he did it willingly.  He was willing to do it for Max.”
“Oh my God, Marinette.”  Adrien ran his hand over his face in exasperation.
“What exactly was he willing to do?” Barbara’s voice was now less amused and more wary.
“That was the worst possible way to say it,” Adrien groaned.
“You know, maybe I don’t want to know the answer to that…” Barbara hedged.  She leaned away from Marinette cautiously.
Marinette laughed at Adrien’s frustration and bumped his shoulder with hers.  “I offered up a date with Luka Coffaine to Audrey Bourgeois’ PA in exchange for the tickets she turned down,” she explained.
There was absolute silence for a few seconds until Stephanie broke the silence.  “You know Luka Coffaine?” she yelled.
Everyone in the café turned slowly to look at them. Marinette’s eyes widened and looked around at them.  She gave them an awkward smile and a wave before turning back to the table.  Before she could chastise Stephanie, Cass was already on top of it.  She pointed sternly around the restaurant and back at Stephanie.  Stephanie nodded guiltily.  “Yeah, yeah.  Sorry.” She turned back to Marinette excitedly. “I just…” she lowered her voice and leaned closer to Marinette.  “You know Luka Coffaine?”
Marinette rolled her eyes at her excitement.  It was always so bizarre to see people’s reaction to Luka.  It was Luka. Just Luka.  Calm, reserved, laidback Luka.  The hysteria around his name just never seemed to fit.  “Yeah, I mean, we dated for a while so… yeah.”
“You dated Luka Coffaine!” Stephanie yelled again, receiving glares from everyone at the table.  Marinette shrunk down in her chair and gave a strained, apologetic smile to the rest of the café.  Cass slapped Stephanie’s shoulder and shook her head.  Stephanie waved her off and focused back on Marinette.  “Yeah, yeah.  Discretion.  Whatever. She dated Luka freaking Coffaine,” Stephanie insisted, motioning to Marinette.
“You dated Tim Drake,” Duke pointed out.
Stephanie snorted.  “That’s just Tim.  He’s just a big dork.  She dated…”
“Yeah we got it,” Barbara cut her off.
“Really, so is Luka,” Adrien shrugged.  “Probably more so, just about music.”  Marinette cocked her head to the side in thought for a few seconds before nodding in agreement.  He really was.
“Holy shit.  Did he introduce you to his dad?”  Stephanie was bouncing in her seat at the idea and the potential for an inside scoop on Jagged Stone.
“No,” Marinette answered.  She smiled internally at the way all their faces, except for Adrien’s fell, just a bit, almost imperceptibly, as if trying to hide their disappointment.  “I already knew him.”
“You know Jagged Stone?” Stephanie yelled. Marinette cringed as she sent the other patrons another apologetic smile.
Duke leaned over closer to her so he could whisper in her ear, though his voice intentionally carried across the table. “Maybe we shouldn’t talk about this anymore.”
“No!” Stephanie screeched, before catching what she did and settling down, a mask of composure settling on her face.  “I’m fine now.  I just needed to get that out.  I’m calm.” She stared at them for a few seconds before almost lunging across the table.  Adrien deftly moved his and Marinette’s drinks before she knocked them over in her zeal.  “Please tell me more.”
Marinette’s eyes widened and she started laughing.  “You realize you’re basically a daughter to the richest man in the world.  If you wanted to meet Jagged Stone, you could.”
Cass shook her head.  “Different.”
Barbara nodded.  “She’s right it is different.  You dated his son.  That’s a different type of knowing someone.”
“So you met Luka through Jagged?” Stephanie pressed.
Marinette suddenly looked uncomfortable.  She was not really excited to talk about their family dynamic and secrets.  It was a little too close to her own and she really, really wanted to move past that, not dwell on it more.  “No… I met Luka through my friend Juleka, his sister.  We went to school together for ages.  They’re both some of my best friends.”
“And she introduced you to Jagged?” Duke asked curiously.  He could tell something was off about this based on the way Marinette responded, but he wasn’t sure what.
“No… um…” she stuttered.  “I met Jagged through a school project.  Designed some sunglasses for him and we’ve been close ever since.”  Adrien grabbed her hand and squeezed it under the table
Stephanie looked between the two of them and plastered on a bright smile.  “So what I’m hearing is you can hook us up with some tickets next time he comes into town.”
Marinette laughed lightly.  “Either one of us could, yes.”
“Or for Clara Nightengale,” Adrien added in. “She loves Marinette, too.  She wanted her in one of her videos.”
“She wanted you in it too,” Marinette reminded him.
“No,” he corrected her, “Gabriel got me into it. She just had to deal with it.  She didn’t choose me.  She chose you.  She worked to get you in the video.”
Marinette opened her mouth to refute that but snapped it shut quickly as the words resonated in her head.  She meant more because Clara chose her.  He was thrust on Clara.  But it didn’t mean he was unwanted.  She looked down at her food and took a bite, trying to cover her sudden inability to breathe.  Trying to give herself time to process.  She needed to pack that away for later when she could properly unpack that statement, deconstruct it, and then finally reconstruct it in some skewed, perverted version of the original situation.
Adrien immediately froze seeing her reaction. He opened his mouth to say something but Marinette squeezed his hand under the table before he could, a silent message they could talk about it later, when they were alone, or at least not with an audience comprised of Waynes.
“So how did you meet Mons…” she stuttered.  It felt strange to call him M. Wayne when everyone else at the table was calling him Bruce.  Should she call him Bruce too?  Like they did.  Like Dick did?  Or B, like Jason did?  “…M. Wayne?” she finally settled on.
Duke grimaced.  They had a cover story, but was he really going to give Bruce’s daughter the cover story?  The truth involved Batman.  But Bruce hadn’t told her about that part of their lives yet, and even if he had told her, he certainly hadn’t told Adrien.  “It’s a long story…”
Marinette smiled encouragingly at him.  “We have time.” She saw him falter and felt her own smile falter.  She took note of the way the women had frozen up as well.  God, what was she doing?  M. Wayne had said how they met.  Why was she bringing that up now?  What was she thinking?  Even if he was okay discussing that trauma, he probably didn’t want to open up about it with a stranger.
“You don’t have to tell me,” she assured him.  “It’s… it’s fine.”  She looked around desperately for something else to talk about, a change of topic to make the conversation not so awkward.  “You graduate from school next year, right?”  Duke blinked a few times before he let out a breath and nodded.  She let out a breath as well when the rest of the table seemed to relax at her question.  “Do you have plans for after you graduate?  Are you going to take a gap year or go to university or get a job?”
“I haven’t really decided yet.  Go to Gotham University, I guess,” he shrugged.
Marinette smiled disarmingly at him.  “You don’t have to decide now.  You have time.”
The waiter interrupted Marinette’s response with their food.  They gave their thanks and started eating.  “So what have you missed the most while you’ve been here?” Barbara asked.
“My parents’ cooking definitely,” Marinette grinned as she looked at her food. It didn’t look bad, but compared to her parents’ cooking… well not much compared.  “And the atmosphere.  Gotham is…” she looked around them as she thought of an unoffensive way to end that sentence.
“Dreary as Hell,” Stephanie finished for her.  “Yeah, we know.”
“I swear you guys have more gargoyles than we do though, which is just strange to me,” Adrien added.  “We were supposed to have the market cornered on gothic architecture.”
“Oh, you still do.  We just took the most depressing, dismal, gloomy, nightmare inducing parts and ran with it,” Duke grinned.  “But I would like to see Paris sometime.  Go see the Eiffel Tower… and jump off it.”
Barbara, Stephanie, and Cass all groaned at him.  Barbara gave him a stern look and pointed a warning finger in his face. “Not during the day.”
Duke laughed at her.  “Well I’m not going to do it at night.”
“Do it at sunrise,” Marinette advised.  “Less gendarmerie around then and if you angle it correctly, you get the most gorgeous view of the sunrise.”
“Bring sunglasses if you jump that way though.  I didn’t and I saw spots for hours.  Oh, and stretch first too,” Adrien added.  “You’re going to have to parkour for quite a while to try to ditch the GN.”
The rest of the table stared at them, jaws dropped in shock.  There was absolute silence at the table except for the sounds of Marinette sipping her drink and Adrien chewing his food. “You’ve…” Duke started almost too in awe to be able to finish the sentence.  “You’ve jumped off the Eiffel Tower?”
Marinette nodded and motioned between the two of them.  “Both of us have.  Both during an akuma attack and not.  Not was much preferable to during.”
“Isn’t that illegal?” Stephanie asked slowly.  She was like 90% positive it was but during akuma attacks, who knew what was legal anymore and Hell, maybe they had days where they gave exceptions. Stranger things have happened.
Marinette speared a bit of food and pointed it at her.  “Only if you get caught.”  She popped the food in her mouth with a triumphant grin.
Barbara blinked at her a few times and shook her head because dear God, there was another one.  She was going to fit right in.  No wonder she and Duke got along so well.  Both creative, smart, kind, thrill seeking, dumbasses.  “I’m pretty sure that’s not how that works,” she deadpanned.
Adrien shrugged and took a sip of his drink.  “I don’t know.  We didn’t get arrested, so I’m pretty sure it is.”
Duke and Stephanie started laughing hysterically.  They looked over at Cass with raised eyebrows when they settled down. Cass stared intently at Marinette and Adrien for a few seconds, staring into them like she was reading their souls. Marinette and Adrien looked at each other with identical unsure looks and subconsciously leaned back at the same time, shuffling in their seats.  Cass stared at them for just a few more seconds before she nodded.
“Holy shit,” Duke muttered in awe.  “You were telling the truth.”
Marinette looked back over at Adrien for an explanation he clearly didn’t have, judging by the blank look on his face before looking back at Duke.  “Uh… yeah?”
“What just happened?” Adrien asked tentatively.
“Sorry about that,” Barbara sent them a disarming smile.  “Cass is kind of like a human lie detector.  She is exceptionally good at telling if someone is lying.  She just confirmed that you two were not.”
Marinette blinked at Barbara a few times before turning to Cass and blinking at her.  “Huh… good to know,” she nodded slowly.  Her eyes stayed on Cass but it was clear her mind was running a mile a minute behind them.  After a few seconds she spoke up again.  “Can you tell the lies people tell themselves too?”
Cass quirked her head to the side and studied Marinette for a moment and shook her head.  “Have to know.”
Marinette nodded and silently took a bite of her food. “Well, that has to come in handy,” Adrien chirped.  “Remind me to take you with me when I meet people.”
Marinette could feel eyes boring into her.  She looked back over at Cass and raised a curious eyebrow at her.  “Hero,” she finally said.
Marinette coughed for a second and looked back at her with her most convincing blank look.  “I’m sorry.  What?”
Cass nodded toward Marinette.  “Eiffel Tower.”
Marinette chuckled disarmingly and shook her head. “You think I’m a lot more honorable than I am.  You think it’s more likely that I was a hero than that I knowingly, intentionally, purposefully violated the law for fun.”  She leaned closer to Cass with a smirk.  “But I can assure you, I regularly did.”
The others at the table looked to Cass.  She quirked her head to the side and gave a small smile before nodding.  “Truth.”  Cass pointed to herself.  “Next time.”
Marinette grinned and nodded excitedly. “Absolutely.”
Duke cleared his throat.  “And Duke,” Cass added.
Marinette chuckled.  “Of course.  We can make a New Kids Club event out of it.”
“And me!” Stephanie chirped.
Barbara sighed and turned to Adrien.  “Dick said you had a job interview yesterday.  How did it go?”
Marinette beamed at Adrien as he responded. Adrien’s face lit up.  “It went well I think.  I think I’d really enjoy working there!  I met the department chair and other professors.  It looks like a really supportive department and University, very research oriented.”
“Where is it?” Duke asked between bites.
“Metropolis,” Adrien answered, his fondness he’d already developed for the city bleeding into his tone.
“Oooh, Conner lives there.  If you’re still deciding if you want to live there or if you need a tour guide, or recommendations on where to eat, he’d be more than happy to help,” Stephanie offered.
Marinette’s smile turned into a pointed smirk and Adrien groaned quietly.  “Conner, did you say?”
Stephanie looked between them, her brow furrowing in confusion.  “Yeah?”
“That wouldn’t happen to be Tim’s single friend would it?”  Her eyes never left Adrien as she asked, her smirk somehow getting even sharper.
Adrien groaned even louder when he looked over and saw Cass’ smile matched Marinette’s and Duke and Stephanie both had devious, familiar looking glints in their eyes.  This was clearly payback for all his attempts to set Marinette and Chloe up with different people.  “Why yes, yes it is.  How about that,” Duke grinned.
Cass pulled out her phone and moved her finger around the screen for a second then finally looked up with an innocent looking smile.  Adrien groaned and dropped his head into his hands.  “I’m not even in this family.  Why am I being punished?”
Barbara laughed and popped a bit of food in her mouth. “That’s funny.  You think just because there’s no paperwork, you haven’t been adopted already.  I made that mistake at first too.”

Tease a cat a little too much and you might get more than you asked for...
AO3 / FFN
Pairing - All sides of the square
Prompt - ‘Tease’
Summary -
If he had his kitten ears right now, they would have been plastered against his hair out of pure embarrassment and perhaps be just as red as his real ears.
"Shall we get back to work?" His voice came out low and raw, clearly affected by the proximity and tension and the knowing twinkle in her eyes did not help matters at all. Tilting her head ever so slightly to the side, Marinette's smile grew and the warmth in her face increased by ten folds as if she was seeing all of him without an obstacle in her way.
"Whenever you're ready."
Little did he know how much effort it took for her tongue to keep down the 'mon Chaton' from slipping out...
(Or, Ladybug figures out Chat Noir’s identity because she constantly stares at his and Adrien’s lips and becomes a little cheeky about it.)
~(x)~ . . . It took Chat Noir everything for his voice to not raise higher and higher in pitch as he tried his utmost best to continue the conversation, going on about his day without clueing in his civilian identity all whilst his Lady continued to watch him intently, her pretty sky blues rooted to his mouth wordlessly. Like he was a piece of a jigsaw puzzle or a lucky charm she needed to figure out as if her life and the rest of the world depended on it. The feline boy self-consciously licked his lips, internally praying to all the gods out there (that were at least an ounce more reliant than Plagg the camembert glutton) to help him keep his cool. Hopefully, his lips weren't too chapped or bruised from all the anxious lip-biting he did this morning at school from worrying over Marinette for the umpteenth time (she tripped at least thirty-six times today no thanks to her sleep deprivation! Thirty-six times!!! How many bones would she have broken if he weren't there to catch her every single time!?). Regardless of that, he always took good care of himself on a daily basis, especially his lips! And his wonderful Lady was still staring at him as if she was in some sort of a deep trance... "Is...is there something on my face?" He finally asked timidly, his tan skin taking on a flustered strawberry-pink hue when he noticed just how small the gap was between them and how he could feel the magnetising heat of her body just mere inches away from his. Ladybug was quick to snap out of what ever stupor she was in, her face taking on the same embarrassed kissed rose colour as her partner's and her pupils constricting from panic. "N-No! Nope! Zilch! Nada! Hahaha!" She took a couple of steps back, ignoring the arm he raised towards her as if he was silently wishing for her to come back to him (his kitten ears adorably plastered against his golden hair and his belt tail drooping against la Tour Eiffel's beam). "I just got lost in my thoughts, sorry, mon Chaton," Ladybug composed herself quickly but her complexion still held that pretty pink glow and it took everything for her Minou to not pepper her rosy cheeks with butterfly kisses to express all the love he holds for her. He quietly sighed in relief, glad that his Lady was relatively back to normal (to some extent). He smiled charmingly and raised an amused brow under his mask, emerald greens twinkling with his standard mischief. "Oh? What could have captivated my sweet Lady's mind as I was talking about my miaw-vellous day~?" He placed the tip of his baton onto the surface and leaned against the weapon as if he was a curious little schoolgirl, batting his long lashes and his faux tail swirling behind him with feline inquisitiveness. The pleasant grin he wore was quick to drop to a frown the second his Lady went beet red instantaneously, her watery blues refocusing on his lips anew and a kettle-like high-pitched squeal escaping her tight-lipped mouth. He wouldn't have been surprised if steam started to seep out of her ears too. And this mannerism was practically identical to his Princesse- "It's nothing! Nothing you need to know- hahahaah! Well! Look at the time! Oh no- I totally should sleep right now- hahaha! See you, Chaton!" The flustered heroine didn't even get a chance to yo-yo away, her partner quickly clasping her hand with desperation (and she could have sworn that she heard a soft kitten-like mewl of protest leave his throat). Peering back over her shoulder slowly, audibly swallowing and trying her best to remain as calm as possible, her blues met her Chat Noir's greens. "My Lady? Did...did I do something wrong? Or say something wrong? I'm sorry if I did...please don't go," He tightened his protective grip slightly over her tiny but hardworking hand but she was much more than capable of escaping his clutches with ease and darting away. The fact that she stayed and listened warmed up his pounding heart and the way her expression beautifully softened turned his entire being to goo. His Lady then smiled tenderly, turning her body back around to face him properly and placing their joint hands against her chest, all whilst her skin remained a brilliant sakura hue. "Mon Chaton, don't worry. You didn't do anything wrong at all. I promise," She squeezed her fingers around his, her heart beating so fast against his gloved hand in a rhythm that matched his so wonderfully. "I just...it's just civilian stuff. I'll get over it. Don't ever think it's your fault, silly Chaton," And then, unexpectedly, she brought their joint hands to her plump, sugary lips, his knuckles grazing the supple flesh and she softly kissed the appendage. Chat Noir felt his entire body go from a flickering flame to a wild inferno immediately, his whole face and neck blooming with a red so prominent, it gave the heroine's suit a run for its money. His heart somersaulted inside his chest at high speeds and all the words on his tongue melted into nothing but a discombobulated, quiet whine. "I'll stay just a little longer. After all, aren't you the one who's always on my case to go to sleep on time? Wouldn't want to let my partner down, would I?" She has virtually destroyed him. He was utterly wrecked. So, so wrecked. And all he could do was nod dumbly, a lopsided and dreamy smile resting on his lips that oozed with lovesickness and adoration without pulling any punches. The very same lips that his Lady proceeded to glance at once again, only to smirk in a manner that would match his mischievous kwami's nature and not give him a single clue of what was going on through her mysterious yet spectacular mind. 'Oh, my Lady~!!!!!!' ~(x)~ Marinette was staring at him. At him!!! Adrien tried his best not to fidget too much on his seat, keeping himself occupied by finishing off his indistinguishable notes on his sheet of paper all whilst his heart soared blissfully. The person he absolutely adores and doubtlessly admires so, so much (shining under the same starlight that glitters over his Lady) was watching him! The very same girl he's always, always wanted to be closer with and bask in her presence was studying him rather than averting eye contact and keeping her distance like she usually does! He wasn't surprised with the way the heat rushed to the apples of his cheeks and the second he bit his bottom lip, he could have sworn that he heard a light, airy sigh leave Marinette's pretty pink lips. By instinct, he finally looked up towards her on the opposite side of the small (so, so small) table they were seated on in the library, his curious sight capturing the wonderfully content and dreamy expression that his Princesse wore. One hard-working hand resting on the side of her head, supported by her elbow. Her skin blooming with a beautiful shade of sakura and rose. Her baby blue eyes glittering under her dark fringe and resting their gaze on his frame. Her sweet, kissable lips shaped in a ghost of a smile. Was it...was it because of him? Someone as shy and quiet and awkward as...him...? . "Marinette?" Her name left his mouth before he could think, the boy quick to curse himself as she automatically snapped out of her enchanted state and jumped in her seat like his alter ego's namesake. He hoped, hoped, hoped to death that she wouldn't run off with a silly excuse and leave him behind in her dust. That she wouldn't run away somewhere so far away that he could never find her again. "Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you," He gently leaned in closer, their knees brushing under the table and his pleading hands resting on one of hers upon the surface. Thankfully, for once, luck was on his side and she relaxed just a smidge under his warmth, averting eye contact from his brilliant greens and finding the chair near them more interesting. The sweet red on the apples of her cheeks remained and he felt her pulse thrumming under his touch, the boy wondering just why it was so fast. "It's not your fault, Adrien. I-I-I shouldn't have zoned off." She wore a sheepish smile now, eyes closed and a cute chime of giggles leaving her enticing throat. "I bet you're wishing that Madame. Bustier chose someone else as your partner instead of me for this project," The blond had to push aside his momentary feeling of euphoria from the sounds of her laughs and use his singular working brain cell. He squeezed her hand with what he hoped was a comforting gesture. "No way! I'm so happy that you're mine- I mean! Mine-my- my partner!" He leaned in even closer, his perfect teeth nibbling his bottom lip and his golden skin kissed with a lovely pink hue. "You have no idea how happy I was when we got paired together. I've always wanted to work with you and create something together..." Adrien confessed quietly, pleading his heart to calm down and praying to anything and everything that he wouldn't spook Marinette with his feelings. "Any time you zone off...I'm...more than happy to bring you back to the world, Marinette." He lowered his gaze, eyeing the way he rubbed circles on the back of Marinette's petite hand with his thumbs and then his greens met her blues once again. "Oh," Her response wasn't anything louder than a delighted gasp but it was more than enough to keep the boy absolutely thrilled. Before he could say anything else, Adrien noted that she was eyeing his mouth in a manner that was practically identical to his Lady's scrutinising yesterday night. Forbidden truths and theories and hopes sewed themselves back together in his brain for the millionth time and- "I'm glad," She snapped him out of his thoughts anew by mustering the courage to press her forehead against his gently, pretty blue eyes flickering from his peach pink lips to his curious greens and back. His heart was a hummingbird vibrating in his chest and hot flames coursed through his veins as the intensity within her eyes grew with an emotion that seemed to just suck him in and beckon him to give in to one of his many temptations. She was only a breath away... Maybe... Just maybe...if he just leaned a little closer... Much to his screaming silent dismay, the smart girl pulled away and took all the delicious warmth with her, an iconic and very familiar grin dancing on her face as she peered back at his lips one more time. Adrien was almost so sure that she knew for definite that he was currently a hot, flustered mess and she was eating it all up. "Whenever you're ready." Little did he know how much effort it took for her tongue to keep down the 'mon Chaton' from slipping out... ~(x)~ "M-M-Marinette!?" The way his voice left his throat as an embarrassing squeak had the feline hero's complexion redden to the point of no return, stray strands of his golden hair sticking up straight like an arrow and his heart beating a million miles per hour. Despite his inner (and outer) turmoil, Marinette acted as if he was just talking about the weather, smearing the residue of the sweet balm on her thumb after she swiped the digit against his lips without any warning. "Oh, did I startle you?" She smiled almost too innocently, her sky blues burning with something mischievous and hungry, her pretty face gracefully tilted to the side in question. "I'm sorry, I thought there was something on your lips. I just didn't expect it to be...fruit-flavoured lip balm," There was something very knowing and very cheeky in her voice and it was driving Chat Noir absolutely crazy. "Strawberry too...my favourite." His lips wobbled and his heart was a jackhammer and despite their huge height difference, Marinette's presence alone felt like it was looming over him like a mountain! "I-I-I-" He swallowed audibly, trying everything to regain back his composure and cleared his throat, coughing once, twice (maybe thrice) into his fist. "The cold air was making my lips a little chapped..." He lightly fibbed, averting eye contact but still able to see her laughing blues peering at his mouth through his peripheral vision and he couldn't help the petty scowl that plastered itself on his face, reminiscent of the odd grumpy cat or two. "So what?" "Chat Noir," The heroine in disguise roamed closer towards the blushing catboy, her hands now behind her back and her rosy lips grinning like his namesake. "Are you ly-iiiiiiing~?" They were now nose to nose and the boy found himself backed up against a brick wall, faux ears now lowered against his golden tresses as the feel of her deliciously sweet and warm breath against his mouth made his lips ache with the intense need to capture her lips. However, instead of blindly following his urges like his heart begged him to, Chat Noir let out an awkward mewl that sounded like a tiny kitten trapped inside a box, making the girl try her utmost best to hold in her endeared snickers. Oh, that little mouse! He absolutely refused to be teased like that! "You know what? Yes, you're right!" This time, he leaned forward with determination, forehead pressing against hers in a manner that matched the moment they shared in the school library when he was guised as his shy, civilian self. His heart fluttered victoriously from the sight of the sweet bloom of pink on her soft cheeks and despite his desperate need to cradle her soft face within his hands, his claws remained rooted within the bricks of the wall behind him. He childishly narrowed his eyes, not thinking through his words properly and then spoke. "Maybe I was just keeping myself prepared in advance in case my Lady needs to or wants to kiss me again. Hmmph!" Though his voice cracked midway through his (truthful) declaration, the way Marinette's eyes glimmered with pure wonder and raw desire had the cogs turning within his one brain-celled mind anew and he was now one hundred and ten percent sure that his cunning Princesse was also his incredible La- "Just your Lady?" The way Marinette batted her long lashes at him and pressed her fist against her lips was just so illegally cute, it consequently destroyed what ever working thought processes he had running through his shaken mind, causing him to finally slide down the wall and sink to his bum with a pitiful 'miau' escaping his lips. . He was so screwed and she KNEW it. But did she care? Non! As if it wasn't enough that he was now a useless pile of patheticness with a window's error screen blasting in his brain, Marinette bent down to his level and sat on her haunches all whilst watching him with those devilish blue eyes of hers. She trailed a dainty finger from his cheek, down his jaw until the tip of it was tilting his chin towards her smug face so that they were merely a kiss apart. "What if I want a kiss too, mon Chaton~?" . K. O. . "Chaton??? Chat Noir??? Oh no...how am I supposed to fight the akuma with you passed out like this- don't look at me like that Tikki! It's not my fault that he can only dish but can't take! Ugh...silly Chaton..." ~(x)~ "You know, after saving you from that akuma, I was expecting anything but that face from you, Adrien," Ladybug giggled as she swung them both away from Le Papillon's latest puppet villain from rooftop to rooftop. It took everything for the heroine to not burst out into mad cackles from the way her good friend pouted childishly in her arms with his cheeks puffed up like a hamster and his spring green eyes twinkling with slight irritation. She got a low warning hum from him as a response as he furrowed his brows even further and continued to glower like a kitten who was refused its very well-deserved treat. With a few more powerful leaps and impressive swings, Ladybug managed to get herself and Adrien to a secluded alleyway in a quiet area that was currently vacant of any civilians for the time being. Getting them both to their knees and crouching over the blond teen, Ladybug kept them hidden in the shadows so that the rampaging akuma couldn't get a glimpse of them as it ran by in pursuit of petty revenge (which in her opinion was quite justified since there was no need for Chloé Bourgeois to have poured rotten milk all over their head in the first place). . It was only after a few seconds of waiting silently did Ladybug finally notice the hot, hot gaze that rested on her face, emeralds flickering from her own blues to her cold, rosy lips and back. The heroine clad in red then registered the suggestive position they were in with her strong arms caging Adrien against the wall, her hips a hair away from straddling his to the ground and the gap between their mouths just barely there. She couldn't help but freeze at the moment, mesmerised by the intensity of his eyes and the way that every breath that left his parted lips was a frosty condensation that felt hotter than the blood that roared in her veins every time it hit her sensitive skin. It took her everything to not jump out of her suit the second his sharp nose gently grazed her softer one all whilst he watched her under his long, dark lashes. "A-Adrien...?" Although the whisper of his name was audible, all that Ladybug could hear was her heart ricocheting inside her chest as if it was on fire. Her guised partner stayed silent as one of his hands made its way towards her face so that his piano fingers could tenderly cup her jaw and rub his thumb against her cheekbone. This time, Ladybug couldn't stop the way she physically trembled from his loving touch which started off as icy cold and softly grew warmer and warmer. A muted gasp was next to escape her mouth when his other hand firmly rested on the small of her back (making it arch oh so deliciously) and before she knew it- He was leaning in closer... And closer... And closer... . . . "Why are you just sitting still like that? I thought you wanted a kiss, Marinette." The second that Ladybug comprehended his stupidly smug and very victorious tone, Adrien gingerly squished her face with the hand that was cradling her jaw so that her lips were automatically pursed and pressed a hot, searing kiss with his own lips. The taste of his sweet, sweet strawberry lip balm was more than enough to make her eyes flutter closed and grip the lapels of his winter jacket as she enthusiastically kissed back with as much passion and fervour as she could possibly muster. It was messy. It was clumsy. But she loved every fucking second of it. Her Chaton was absolutely merciless, nipping her bottom lip with the sharp of his teeth just so he can slip his tongue in as his fingers clawed on her back almost possessively. A small, tiny part of her mind had a feeling that maybe, just maybe, the kiss would have been a lot more gentle and perhaps shorter if it weren't for some of her shameless teasings lately. Especially when he was decked up as his alter-ego not too long ago. Not that she was complaining. The second Adrien tilted his face to a slight angle, Ladybug lost every single comprehensive thought within her brain and all that she could think about was him. His name, his face, his eyes, his lips, his everything. Him. Her Chaton, her Minou, her Chat Noir, her Adrien, her Prince, him. The softness and silkiness of his lips, the scorching feel of his fingers running through her hair as he tore off the ribbons, the delighted and pleased sighs of her name. Oh, how she loves, loves, loves him. . "And you thought that I can only dish it," Adrien chuckled against her beet-red throat, delivering the sweet butterfly kisses he's always wanted to shower the love of his life with and holding her close against his frame. When he pulled back to meet her gaze, the feline within him couldn't help but be unconditionally pleased with the flustered, thoroughly-kissed state his beloved partner was in. He didn't bother fighting off the delighted purr that rumbled through his chest like a happy kitten. 'I did that. I turned my smug, perfect Lady into a blushy mess. Hah! Take that, ma Buguinette!' "I-I-I...you!" Ladybug finally snapped out of her enchanted stupor, the cogs in her brain now having the energy to move and piece together what just happened in the last five minutes or so. "You said my name! How- when- I mean!?" Unfortunately, words decided to abandon her once again so all that Ladybug could do was flop her head against her snickering partner's chest with a defeated and very, very embarrassed groan. "Who knew that little ol' me can turn the amazing Ladybug as red as her suit~?" Adrien earned a well-deserved (and light) jab against his shoulder but it did nothing to affect the shit-eating grin that was virtually tattooed on his face. "Alright, alright. Unlike you, I can hold off the teasing for a little while~" When Adrien stood them back up and sweetly moved her hands from her face, all whilst watching her with his beautiful, affectionate gaze with a smile full of devotion, Ladybug felt her heart rev back up to high speeds once again. . Until his tender smile switched to a devilish, insufferable grin. "Told ya you'd fall for me one day~" "WHAT!? I! I! YOU-UUUUUUUUUUUUU! We have an akuma to fight! Hurry up and transform you, idiot!" "This idiot got you undone in one kiss alone~" "CHAT NOIR!!?!?" "Actually, right now I'm Adrien-" "I'LL HANG YOU UPSIDE-DOWN ON THE TOWER EITHER WAY!" "No you wouldn't~ because you love me~" "UGHHHHHHH!" . . . ~(x)~

loose lips sink ships — ch 3.
Adrien is sleep deprived. And touch starved. And lovesick. Coincidentally, napping in Ladybug’s arms cures all that.
But what cures the complete and utter meltdown it causes when your partner thanks you for sleeping with her?
fic inspired by a collection of @curlymakingswirlies' art <3
loose lips sink ships (6,409 words, 3/4 chapters, Teen)
Adrien wasn’t tired anymore.
If anything, he vibrated with energy, way over his head. A sensible explanation for why he didn’t notice the storm clouds that sneaked up on the city during his patrol until it was already too late. He couldn’t get home in the downpour. (Not even mentioning how unsuiting and letting his pent up energy over today’s events be slaughtered by Plagg’s unimpressedness didn’t rank high on his wish-list.)
In the light of these, he didn’t mull over it much whether, or whether not, seeking shelter under the overhang on Marinette’s balcony was his brightest idea ever. Not that he was an unwelcome guest there, or the girl wouldn’t have invited him in without any fuss, but lately his monthly visits had turned into multiple times a week, and he didn’t want to abuse her hospitality.
However, if he didn’t make a sound, she would never even know he was there.
Who could have foreseen that dancing in place — in an attempt to pass the time, and as a substitute to running around rooftops, chanting ‘Ladybug-is-in-love-with-me!’ — would cause some noise? Like the shatter of a mint plant’s pot on the tiles?
Although he was without the unhelpful guidance of a Lucky Charm, Adrien tried to clean up. He swore under his breath as he only seemed to spread the soil around the tiles more. (He may have legally been prohibited from saying the f-word — really, it was part of his model contract — but he was a cat of many talents. A decent vocabulary, and thus the ability to find loopholes very much belong to his assets.)
Probably due to these totally unpredictable complications, the skylight banged open, and a blob of midnight emerged on the ladder. “I swear, if the lady next door keeps forgetting to let the window open for her cats when it’s raining like this—”
Marinette came to a sudden halt, and stared directly into Adrien’s soul. He stared back, a potsherd in one hand, a handful of dirt in the other.
“Hi!” he croaked out.
She crossed her hands over her chest, a smirk tugging on her lips. “Looks like my hunch was right. It is a cat after all.”
“Caught in the flashlight,” he chuckled awkwardly. He made a new, valiant attempt at cleaning up, but the soil only ran out between his fingers. “I’m sorry about the plant. I just wanted to seek shelter from the rain, and there was an… accident.”
“Don’t worry about it! I’ll take care of it tomorrow,” she said. “But you could have just knocked on the door, you know.”
“I didn’t want to disturb,” he said sheepishly.
(His reservation had absolutely nothing to do with the fact that he wasn’t sure, in his current state, he was capable of holding a coherent conversation that went beyond ‘Ladybug the most girl ever’. Absolutely nothing!)
“What are you talking about? You’re never disturbing, Chat. Now, come on in, or you’ll catch a cold!” She waved with her hand — a weird gesture, but most likely an invitation nevertheless, since there weren’t enormous flying bugs in the night air to be chased away.
Adrien hesitated only for a second before he kicked off his boots, in order to avoid getting her sheets dirty. He climbed through the skylight and settled on her bed, his legs comfortably stretched out. The fairy lights hung up all around her bed only provided a dim light, but even Marinette — who didn’t have super senses — could see just fine. Her smirk at the neon-green toe beans on his socks was enough indication of that, even if she didn’t comment.
“I’m guessing you didn’t plan your night like this, but if you have to pass the time anyway... Do you want to play?” she proposed.
She extended her little finger, and searched for his eyes, waiting for him to meet her. He did, and they shook on it, like always. It was the inter-good-friends-only-you-don’t-know-just-how-good abbreviation of ‘I swear to tell the truth, and nothing but the truth’.
Adrien grinned. “You know that I always want to play! Truth or dare?”

Contagious adoption Part 1: Found Family
This had all started due to Tim hearing a legend while running on about thirty-five minutes of sleep for the whole week. As a result, Tim decided to take one of the private jets and fly to a small village in Tibet.
According to the locals, there was some kind of deity that lived at the top of the mountain. To get there one must hike for a total of seven days. Regardless of your age or stamina, the amount of time it would take to reach the top is always seven days.
They claimed that if you could make it to the top, then the deity will grant you one wish. The locals called the wish ‘The Deity’s Miraculi'. This was what they had always been called time and time again. No one knows exactly when the deity started living up on the mountain. The villagers simply knew that they could climb the mountain and make a wish.
They also explained that only about seventeen people have ever made it to the top of the mountain and received a wish. Most who tried to make the journey either died, turned back due to the difficulty of the trail, or the deity refused to grant their wish.
It was from these seventeen people that the villagers learned the rules of the deity’s miraculi.
Rule one, if you didn’t bring enough food and water to make the trip, then turn back. What little food and water you can find on the mountain is poisonous and known to cause some of the most painful deaths.
Rule two, make it to the top of the mountain alive. According to all that tried, the trial is torture. The dark forest as the locals called it, was full of all sorts of unusual and terrifying creatures.
Rule three, you must make the trip alone. Six travelers had come down the mountain after having reached the top receiving no wish. They cursed out the deity for not giving them what they were owed for the torture they endured to climb their cruel and evil mountain.
“I owe you nothing, for you have failed my test.” The deity had started with a booming voice that could be heard at the base of the mountain. Simply informing them to, “Come back alone next.”
Rule four, you only get one chance to state what you wish for. The first thing you say you want after the deity asks for your wish is what you’ll get. There is no “wait I meant…” “Actually I want...” “...Or maybe…”. What you say is what you get.
Rule five, Be very specific about what you wish for. If your wish doesn’t have enough details then the deity will take creative liberties with it.
Rule six, you may only make one wish. This rule was self-explanatory.
Rule seven, the deity has the right to deny any of the wishes made. They don’t explain why they choose to, just simply denying the wish.
Finally, the deity’s last rule.
Rule eight, you may not kill on the deity’s mountain, be it animal or human. If you do then you shall fallow the deceased into the afterlife. Your death being far more painful than there’s.
So here Tim stood. At the bottom of the deity’s mountain, ready for the seven-day hike ahead of him.
The first day wasn’t what he had been expecting. From all the tales he had heard, Tim was half expecting to be attacked the moment he entered the forest. Instead, he simply enjoyed the peaceful hike. Taking as many pictures as he could of the different plants. It had been a while since he was not consumed with an extensive amount of workload and free to just take some pictures as he used to in his youth.
On the second day, Tim finally saw some animals. At first, he freaked out. These were not normal animals. They seemed to be creatures of some magical descent. They all turned to Tim as if about to attack when he had started freaking out. Only for the creatures to seem confused when Tim named them all from different mythologies. He’s a bit of a nerd when it comes to myths. Similar to how Jason is with classical literature. Sue him. It’s not like he can’t afford it.
The creatures were a bit wary of Tim but seemed to relax as time went on. Tim was enjoying the time he spent taking pictures of all different kinds of things that he would probably only show to Alfred.
At the end of the seventh day, Tim was in front of a shrine of some sort. There was a thirteen or fourteen-year-old kid standing next to the shrine looking at him.
“What is your wish?” The child questions.
All Tim could do was stare. This was the deity? She was just a child.
‘If this is the deity then that means my theory was right.’ Tim thought to himself. ‘You don’t have to hike the entire time. The journey takes seven days no matter what you do.’
“Your wish?” the child questioned once again.
“Oh, uh, sorry I didn’t have anything I desired before coming here,” Tim informs them.
“You didn’t come here for the wish?” The child seems confused now.
“Nope. This hike was a random idea I thought up while being a bit sleep deprived.” Tim says, making the child burst out into laughter.
Tim smiled at that. “So what’s your name?” Tim asked. The poor child simply looked shocked at the question.
“My name? It’s been a while since anyone wanted to know it.” the child muses out loud.
“My name is Timothy Drake-Wayne, and I’m twenty-eight years old,” Tim says with a smile towards the little kid. “Now it’s your turn.”
“I’m Marinette, commonly known as the Priestess of the Miraculi.” the deity, Marinette says with a small smile. “Oh! I’m also ten years old.”
Tim looked at Marinette. “You know, it seems pretty lonely to be up here with the beautiful view all by yourself.” Tim chuckled to himself, shaking his head in amusement.
“My dad, well, my adopted dad, had a habit of picking up kids in need with black hair and blue eyes.” The look on Tim’s face softened as he crouched down to Marinette’s level.
“While the sights here are beautiful, and the wildlife and creatures are fascinating, I was all alone on this mountain. It may have been for only a week, but I started to miss my family.”
“I would bet my life that you’re lonely up here as well. You make others go into isolation so that they know how it feels, don’t you? The wish is most likely plain magic. So why stay up here all alone?”
Marinette shifts from one foot to the other a few times before answering. “Because I have nowhere else to go and no one waiting for me anywhere.”
Tim gives her a weak smile. “Then it’s a good thing my dad’s adoption habits seem to be contagious.”

Gabriel Agreste: Interesting Villain, Horrible Character (400 Follower Special)
Tumblr media
I'm honestly surprised more people didn't want me to talk about Gabriel, especially with how often I rag on how horrible of a person he is. But, three character analysis posts later, and we're going to talk about why the main villain of Miraculous Ladybug is a real letdown.
Gabriel Needs to give the Whining a Rest
The interesting thing is one of the few things I actually liked in Season 3 was Hawkmoth. His plans actually made sense (for the most part), and by playing the long game, he managed to turn Chloe against Ladybug and deprived her of several key allies. Granted, Season 4 immediately undid the latter, but I was still impressed by his strategy.
Generally, one of the better aspects of Gabriel as a character was just how over the top he was as Hawkmoth. Keith Silverstein is clearly giving it his all with his performance, and he is just so enjoyable to watch as a cartoonish supervillain.
And therein lies the first major problem with Gabriel as a character. While he is fun to watch as a simple supervillain, the show tries to give him more depth and unintentionally makes him worse.
In Season 2, when it was revealed that Gabriel was Hawkmoth, many fans speculated on what he needed the Miraculous for, until the Queen Bee Trilogy showed it was to save his possibly dead wife, Emilie. The idea of that is so the show can give more depth to its main villain, and I think it's an interesting idea in concept. After all, the road to Hell is paved with good intentions.
The problem is just how radically different Gabriel is normally compared to how he is as Hawkmoth. He always goes on about how he's “doing this for Emilie”, but it's hard to really sympathize with him when you consider he constantly gives evil monologues and evil laughs, really getting into the supervillain role. And let's not forget all of the “I'm going to wear Ladybug's skin as a suit” faces he loves to make.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Clearly this man is the picture of mental stability.
Gabriel's motivation for being Hawkmoth when compared to what he actually does as Hawkmoth is shady enough, but the thing is that the writers clearly want the audience to at least feel a little bad for him. They want to make the audience sympathize with him despite the way he acts with or without the mask. Without Miraculous Ladybug, he is routinely putting innocent lives in danger and never once shows regret for his actions. All he talks about is how “he's doing this for Emilie”, or that “he'll get their Miraculous soon”. There's no real reason to feel bad for him other than “because the script says so”.
Let's compare Gabriel to Malcolm Merlyn from Arrow. His big plan in the first season of the show is to create a machine that will cause an earthquake to destroy a crime-infested portion of Starling City, claiming to be trying to help everyone, but it's clear he is only doing it out of revenge for his wife getting killed by a criminal from that part of the city. In addition, throughout that season and future seasons, he always makes sure his plans lead to him benefiting in some way, showing he isn't just some noble man trying to achieve his goals with a less than noble method.
If we got some moments that showed that what Gabriel was doing was selfish, it would make him a more complex villain. But we don't get anything like that. What do we get instead? Well...
I Could Really Care Less About Emilie Agreste
We have known Gabriel's motivation has been to save his wife for a little over two years at this point, but at the same time, it's hard to believe that motivation because of how underdeveloped Emilie is as a character.
There have been a total of two lines in the entirety of the show that explain what happened to Emilie, and they're both vague as hell. One of them was from “Feast” that implied Emilie used the broken Peacock Miraculous.
Adrien: My mom used to have dizzy spells… just like Nathalie.
And the other that outright tells the audience what's happening to her in a clip show that most people will skip.
Nathalie: As I've watched Emilie falling deeper into an endless sleep, my sadness for her has deepened, too
That is literally all we get for an explanation, and nothing else. We have no idea of what she's like as a person or what her relationship with her family was like other than Gabriel and Adrien saying they miss her. Other than the way the narrative says she's important to Gabriel and Adrien, we don't really have a reason to care about her as a character. There have also been some lines that imply she went along with Gabriel's questionable parenting techniques, like how he was apparently only homeschooled as a kid (Origins) and never had a birthday party growing up (The Bubbler), so how do we even know if she's a good person? In fact, why not set up this question as a mystery to make the audience wonder if Gabriel has another reason to bring Emilie back?
It ultimately turns Emilie into a plot device and not a character that Gabriel and Adrien only bring up to make the audience feel bad for them, and meant to justify Gabriel's actions by saying that he's “doing this for his family”.
But hey, if he's doing this all for his family, surely Gabriel's redeeming traits come from his relationship with Adrien, right? Right?
As a Parent, Gabriel is Far From the Best
I've talked about this briefly before, but parenting in Miraculous Ladybug is written in such a black and white way, even by the standards of this show. Parents are portrayed in one of two ways. They're either amazing people who love and support their children unconditionally, or they're awful people who treat their own children like trash. And much like a lot of things in this show, there are times where the latter is treated like the former.
There are so many times where the narrative insists on making you see Gabriel as a troubled, but wellmeaning person who tries his best to be a good parent to Adrien, but it is far from the truth.
I'm not going to beat around the bush. Gabriel is a terrible parent. Like, he is awful at being a parent in so many ways, even before you find out he's Hawkmoth. In his first appearance, “The Bubbler”, he delegates getting Adrien a birthday present to Nathalie, his assistant. He literally can't be bothered to take time out of his schedule to get his own son a present for his birthday. And as the show goes on, he becomes more controlling and forbids Adrien from going out with his friends in other episodes (Captain Hardrock, Silencer). While this could be used to show Gabriel getting worse, it's never acknowledged in-universe, with Adrien continually defending his father essentially keeping him on house arrest.
“But IOTA!” You might say. “Gabriel has made efforts to bond with his son in some episodes.” While that might be true, most of those come right after his Akumas have almost gotten Adrien killed. He only hugged Adrien and made an attempt to learn more about him after Simon Says invaded their home, he only decided to watch that movie Emilie was in with Adrien after Gorizilla nearly dropped him off a building, and he only hugged Adrien again in public after he was turned into a gold statue by Style Queen.
In fact, let's talk about how Gabriel acts in the Queen Bee Trilogy. He actually decides to quit being Hawkmoth, but it's not because he realizes all the damage he's caused. Instead, he gave up because his “magnum opus”, a stronger than usual Akuma that only got the advantage on Ladybug ironically because of dumb luck, failed. Sure, he says he can't keep putting his son in danger, but he rarely ever acknowledges that he does so in the first place. When Riposte wanted to fight Adrien, Hawkmoth did nothing to stop her other than giving her a stern warning earlier on and nothing else. Where was this attitude earlier?
Hell, even then, he immediately goes back to being Hawkmoth as soon as he sees an opportunity, not even a day after his “mAgNuM oPuS” blew up in his face (because I guess Scarletmoth was just Plan B). If he made such a big deal about caring for his son, why didn't he try harder to spend time with him? Has he ever had doubts about what he's doing before? If Chloe didn't show up as Queen Bee, was he going to follow through on his promise and try to be a better father to Adrien instead of trying to get Ladybug and Cat Noir's Miraculous?
And yeah, the whole irony is that Gabriel is doing this for his family when he is unknowingly fighting his own son, which could lead to some interesting drama if done right. The idea of how Gabriel would react to his son being Cat Noir could really lead to some internal struggles for him to go through. But then we got “Cat Blanc”, which shows just how terrible of a character Gabriel is.
In an alternate timeline where he found out his son was Cat Noir, what does Gabriel do? Does he try to steal Adrien's Miraculous while he's sleeping? Does he reconsider his actions or realize he was endangering Adrien's life?
NOPE! He just decides to akumatize him all while emotionally tormenting him, before causing the end of the world.
This is honestly one of the most appalling things I've ever seen in any TV show, because it's basically an abusive father ordering his son to listen to him all while referencing his (kind of) dead mother to back up his point. And rather than use this to show how despicable Gabriel is, the episode decides to blame Marinette for this happening. Yes, according to the show, her present to Adrien caused several events to happen which caused Cat Blanc, but this logic makes no sense. It's like blaming the JFK assassination on the man who sold a gun to Lee Harvey Oswald, instead of, you know, Lee Harvey Oswald.
Not only was this episode yet another excuse to blame Marinette for something that wasn't her fault, it leads into the biggest problem I have with Gabriel as a character.
Sympathize with Gabriel? Surely, You Jest
After everything I've gone over regarding Gabriel as a character, after all the awful things I've talked about, are you really surprised that I don't feel bad for him at all?
Gabriel is just an awful character and a despicable human being, but the show just keeps wanting me to feel bad for him. It's just so hard to when you consider everything he's done has made him anything but sympathetic. I'm just saying, it's kind of hard to feel bad for someone who tries to start World War III with the only justification being “i'M dOiNg It FoR mY fAmIlY”, especially when he treats his family like crap.
Tumblr media
The writers go out of their way to show how horrible Gabriel is as Hawkmoth/Shadowmoth, but they think because they throw in a few moments where he looks conflicted, we'll immediately feel bad for him. What makes so many people interested in seeing Chloe become a better person is that they can tell she's the victim of a troubled upbringing, and know that because she's only a teenager, she still has room to grow as a person, represented by having more honest moments of vulnerability. Gabriel is a grown man who once caused the apocalypse because of how terrible of a parent he is, and has even fewer sympathetic moments than Chloe does. Which one of these two is supposedly irredeemable? The answer may surprise you.
But the frustrating thing is that this kind of villain could have worked. Instead of making him this mustache-twirling psychopath, show how much Gabriel regrets what he has to do, but keeps pushing onward despite all the lives he's risking if it means that he can save his wife. Instead of making Gabriel like Lex Luthor, make him like Mr. Freeze, who is basic a better written version of him.
youtube
But as it stands, there's a good reason why Gabriel gets little to no respect as a character in the Miraculous Ladybug fandom, as a villain, or as a father.

Into The Unknown, Part 10
First
Previous
Grocery store trips were weird. Tim had never taken them before, and now here he was buying food for the three of them regularly. He’d thought it would be harder, for some reason. But, no, it was just boring.
Tim rolled his eyes as Damian pointed to the nearest brightly colored object -- a bag of Not Cheetos… holy shit they were called Fritos this wasn’t allowed he has never been so vehemently against anything in his life.
He sighed as the baby yelled at him for the bag. This was his fault. He shouldn’t have gone in the chip aisle.
He looked down at the kid in front of him with an apologetic smile.
“No, kiddo. See, I would love to get that for you but, unfortunately, Mari said I can’t buy you any more random sweets. Blame her, not me.”
Damian was, apparently, too smart for his tricks because he banged his fist on the front of the cart and babbled at him angrily.
Tim sighed and leaned forward until his forehead touched the cool metal of the cart, thinking.
And then he got back up and handed the kid the bag of chips. Damian didn't know that it was food, Tim was pretty sure, and he had nothing against… ‘Fritos’ (outside of their name, obviously). So, why not? He could eat them. It was better than dealing with a tantrum in the middle of a store, at least.
Damian lit up and hugged the bag to his chest as if it was a soft stuffed animal and not a plastic bag filled with air and maybe a few chips.
Tim smiled faintly and pressed a kiss to the top of his head and then continued on his way, scanning over the list idly.
Oh. Marinette had added something. He squinted down at her messy scrawl, bringing it close to his face as if he could will the words to make sense.
And it worked. Ha. Take that everyone who didn’t believe in him.
Okay. So, she needed ‘pads’.
Sure. No problem.
He walked over to the aisle.
Hm. Okay. There might be a tiny little problem.
Why were there so many different brands? And sizes?
He stared around at them all helplessly. Sure, he had glimpsed the box a few times but he certainly hadn’t paid it much mind -- it wasn’t for him, why would he?! But now he was standing in an entire aisle full of products and there were way too many of them. And why did they all look the same? Shit!
He looked at Damian, who was biting the edge of the chip bag and giggling about the crinkling noises it made. But, once Tim turned his gaze on him, he looked up at him with wide eyes, attentive.
“Any chance you know what type Mari uses?” Tim joked softly.
Damian popped off the chip bag so he could babble at him. It was very helpful.
He considered, very briefly, just standing there in the aisle with the same helpless expression until some kind-hearted person took pity on him and he could avoid the embarrassment of calling Marinette at work to ask what types of pads she used… but, no, the idea of asking some random person for help was way worse. He had to just suck it up and do it.
He pulled out his phone and called Marinette. He was pretty sure it was lunchtime for her, anyways.
She picked up within a few rings, voice slightly muffled as she answered with a simple: “Problem?”
Tim didn’t know whether to be embarrassed or amused that her first thought when he called her was that something was wrong.
But he quickly alleviated her fears: “No, everything’s fine.”
He could hear the phone shift slightly as she assumedly went back to eating. “Right, then what is it?”
“Nothing bad, really…” Tim started awkwardly. His face reddened without his permission. “Just wanted to know what brand you used for, um, hygiene products.”
“... hyg --? Oh.” He heard her laugh at him and his face only reddened further. “What, the world's greatest detective couldn’t figure it out?”
“That’s my dad!” He mumbled a little huffily.
She snickered a little longer before finally saying: “I think the brand is called ‘Forever’ here.”
“See! You don’t even know!” He said even as he pulled down a box with the word written across it in elegant script.
“That’s because the name changed when --...” She seemed to remember she was at work -- or, at least, that there were other people around -- because she cut herself off suddenly before she could admit to being a dimension hopper in a world that likely wouldn’t even believe in the multiverse. “When… I switched brands! Yeah. Heh.”
(Tim swore he heard her mumble ‘technically not even a lie’ but he wasn’t quite sure.)
He started to put it in the basket but then he paused.
“There’s a lot of sizes.”
“Um… I think a four?”
“Yeah, no, they have letters here.”
“Fuck, right, hate that, um… D, I guess.”
He switched out the Cs he had gotten and smiled as Damian reached for him. He clearly wanted out of the cart -- Tim wondered, vaguely, if it was uncomfortable -- but that wasn’t going to happen so he decided to distract him:
“Want to talk to Mari, kiddo?”
The kid blinked up at him a few times before lighting up. “Mar-ree!”
He pressed the phone to Damian’s ear with one hand until the kid took it himself and then motioned for him to go ahead. “Takalam maeaha.”
“... marhaba?” Damian said, giving Tim a look that seemed to scream ‘you’re weird for making me talk into a box’.
Marinette must have said something back, because the kid’s eyes went wide. Damian looked around wildly for a few moments, clearly trying to figure out where Marinette was, before he realized that her voice was coming from the box. He gasped a little and pressed the phone against his ear even harder and started to ‘talk’ to her. It was a weird mix of Arabic and a few English syllables thrown together haphazardly, Tim was just glad he was learning.
Tim started on his way through the store again, sure he wasn’t going to get his phone back anytime soon.
He’d gotten all the necessities and they had money left in the weekly budget...
He headed to the kid’s aisle, head tipping from side to side as he considered what to get. Maybe a new book? Damian had taken a liking to them, though Tim was pretty sure that was more because he thought the English language sounded kind of funny rather than any real passion for stories.
He picked up a book about letters and looked down at Damian. He sounded annoyed now.
He looked at Tim with an annoyed expression and shook Tim’s poor phones a few times. “Mar-ree!”
Ah. She must have hung up because her break was over.
How was he supposed to explain how phones worked to a baby? Especially since he knew phones so intimately thanks to his time working on the model he was using.
He gently pulled the phone from the kid’s hands. “Mari’s at work. You can see her later.”
“Bu…” Damian pouted.
Damn it. How dare the kid be cute? Tim was about five seconds away from walking to Marinette’s job so the kid would smile again.
He hesitated before reaching behind himself and grabbing the first soft thing his hands landed on. He pulled it out and squinted at the stuffed cat. It was cute, he supposed, but he didn’t know why it was rainbow-colored.
Whatever.
He offered the plush to Damian and the kid seemed to instantly forget about the phone.
(And the chips. But the kid had put it in his mouth so it looked like Tim was buying that anyway.)
He pressed a kid to the top of his head and then continued on his way.
… and that was when he heard it:
Haha, someone got called a DILF.
… wait a minute… he was the only person with a kid around here…
His head whipped around so fast he would have gotten whiplash if he was old -- which he wasn’t -- to see two girls in their mid teens. And they were definitely looking at him. They even tried to hide behind the next aisle in order to avoid his gaze once they realized he had heard them.
Tim didn’t know what to do about this. Someone had actually called him...
He was 19! He couldn’t be that yet! How?! No!
And, sure, the logical part of him knew they were technically right. He was attractive (he hoped) and, when it came to the ‘dad’ thing… if Damian never got his memories back, then Tim would pretty much be the only dad that he had ever known. He would be a dad.
But, again, he was 19-years-old, he didn’t want to think about this.
So, to ward off the impending crisis, he looked around the aisle he was in wildly for some kind of ‘kid’ thing.
He found some marshmallow guns and grabbed two. Then he got some marshmallows because those weren’t included for some reason. Whatever.
He looked down at the basket, aware that he was now over budget, and eventually decided to put back the book. Who needs to learn?
(Besides, if Damian really wanted to just hear people talk, Tim could totally do that. He had so many random facts in his head thanks to random rabbit holes he had gone down while sleep-deprived, he could just rant about those if the kid wanted.)
So, he checked out, loaded up with all the bags and the baby, and started walking home.
… he was totally going to learn to drive. Even if Gotham streets were safer -- especially when he had a baby on him -- it was a pain to carry all the groceries even the few blocks to their apartment. Literally. The bags dug into his skin. He swore he could taste blood.
But he had an end goal in sight, so he went faster than usual that day.
He set up the guns, leaving Marinette’s on the kitchen table and then took a seat on the couch with Damian. They spent the few remaining hours playing games (Tim was pretty sure, he had absolutely no clue what Damian was saying but the kid seemed to have fun and that was all that mattered) and watching TV.
Tim heard his door click and looked up.
He quickly reached for the marshmallow gun and turned to point it at the door.
Damian watched him in silence, perfectly still as if he understood that this was something that they needed to be quiet for.
Usually, this kind of worried Tim. They always gave Damian to Kaalki and Tikki when they sparred, but Damian had always been… shockingly well-behaved? Not in the good way, either, he was far too still and quiet. Tim was starting to suspect that, at the very least, the kid remembered the first year of his life in the League. He hoped that the trauma would fade away with time. Kids forget things that they experienced as babies when they grew older, Tim himself couldn’t remember anything from before he was three, so hopefully this would be the same.
… but he really wanted to get Marinette with a marshmallow gun. So, he swallowed down the slight bit of anxiety rising in his chest and looked through the scope as Marinette finally managed to open the finicky door.
Damian’s eyes widened and he made a quiet ‘ah!’ sound.
Tim jumped at the sudden sound and pulled the trigger. The marshmallow gun made a fmpf sound as it fired off the shot.
The marshmallow bounced off of Marinette’s forehead harmlessly. Because, y’know, it was a marshmallow.
She blinked a few times and then knelt down to pick up the fallen marshmallow. She scanned it over a few times, eyes narrowed.
Tim hardly paid attention to her, looking over at Damian. The kid looked very confused, eyes darting between the gun and Marinette and the marshmallow on the floor repeatedly as if he wasn’t sure what he was seeing.
And then he flopped back on the sofa with a quiet whimpering sound.
Marinette and Tim frowned at each other. He could see confusion and concern knitting her eyebrows together, meanwhile all he had was dread coiling itself in his gut. Because… what if Damian did remember his first year with the League? Or, even worse, what if he would slowly regain all his memories? No kid deserved that...
Tim felt something hit the side of his head, snapping him out of his daze. Oh. Marinette had grabbed the other gun and promptly gotten her revenge.
Damian didn’t see this, at least, just staring at the ceiling with wide eyes.
Marinette sat on Damian’s other side, gently picking him up and nuzzling her nose against his cheek. Then, she sat him back down between them, sidling close so the kid could curl into her side. Tim, after a few seconds, scooted closer as well.
“Want some marshmallows? They’re yummy,” she tried hesitantly.
She shot one into her hand and, after tearing it in half just in case, handed it to Damian.
The kid took a hesitant bite, still looking a little put out, but then he gasped a little. He happily chewed away at the marshmallow, the event easily wiped from his mind in favor of the yummy thing in his hand.
Tim sighed in relief, reaching behind himself for the marshmallow bag so they wouldn’t have to shoot any more. Just in case.
“Quick thinking,” he said, which was kind of a compliment if you squinted.
She smiled and leaned over to press a kiss to his cheek. “It’s what I’m known for.”
There was a few seconds before she sighed just a little, gently combing her fingers through Damian’s hair. The kid reached out and gripped Tim’s shirt in his hand, surely getting it messed up thanks to the marshmallow on his hands but whatever, and tried to tug him closer. He obliged. Marinette rested her head on his shoulder absently.
“What would I do without you?” He mused.
“Probably starve on the streets,” she said bluntly.
He scoffed a little. “The minute this kid goes to sleep I’m going to shoot another marshmallow at you.”
“You can try. Only reason you even got me last time was ‘cause I didn’t know you were going to do it.”
“The element of surprise is a totally valid tactic!” He pretended to whine.
She grinned at him. “But it won’t work again.”
He wrapped an arm around her lazily. “We’ll see.”
