Combined Hyperfixations as per usual

So I had originally planned on doing a Danny Phantom retrospective, mostly because I’ve been watching a lot of video essays on YouTube about old media and internet personalities, and Danny Phantom was always one of those shows that I had a complex relationship with. But during my research, a simple question kept popping into my head over and over again.
What does Butch Hartman actually do?
He constantly keeps claiming that he created Danny Phantom, and a lot of people do consider Danny Phantom to be Hartman’s best show, but how involved was he?
I’m not saying Hartman just slapped his name onto a product and took all the credit for himself, as he is credited for writing, storyboarding and directing various episodes. But from all the interviews and clips I’ve seen of him, he doesn’t seem to know that much about the show’s lore or why people like the show to begin with.
For example, the show clearly establishes that there are ghosts who used to be human at one point, but Hartman has always insisted that every ghost you see in the series is a supernatural creature from an alternate dimension. And that his explanation for why some ghosts are more human looking than others is because they wanna be human? Um…..okay.
Feels odd that Hartman had a problem with the ghosts being spirits of deceased humans but he originally wanted Vlad to be a vampire.
It’s also pretty interesting how Hartman never wrote any season two episodes, as that season is when the show started to heavily incorporate elements of serialized storytelling into its main narrative. Something that was previously absent from Hartman’s other show, The Fairly Oddparents.
And yes, I am still annoyed that we never got a legit payoff to the Ring of Rage and Crown of Fire, they were clearly set up as these major plot points that were gonna be important later on, but were completely dropped entirely after Reign Storm.
Guess now is the perfect time to talk about Steve Marmel and the controversy surrounding him. Long story short, Marmel was a writer who helped develop the series. A lot of the best episodes were written by him and once he left the quality went down the shitter.
Many people have speculated that he was fired by Hartman/Nickelodeon for wanting the show to go into a more darker direction, while others claim he left due to creative differences.
None of these rumors have been confirmed by Hartman, Nickelodeon or Marmel. And as such, should be taken with a huge grain of salt.
Regardless of what you believe, you can’t deny that Marmel wasn’t influential during his time on the show. He really helped flesh out a lot of the characters and lore.
Say what you will about the Green Bay Packers jokes in Bitter Reunions, but I kinda loved that aspect of Vlad’s character. It was a nice little touch that helped him stand out from your typical Saturday morning cartoon villain.
And if I’m being perfectly honest, I don’t think Hartman could pull something like The Ultimate Enemy or Reign Storm off on his own, as he’s not that good of a writer.
Which brings me to season three, now I don’t usually like parroting out the default opinion but, season three of Danny Phantom is just…..really bad.
I’m not going to go into that much detail about season three, mostly because it’s a topic that’s been covered to death and I really don’t have anything new to bring to the table. But I will say that, if season three does anything well it’s that it showcases just how terrible of a writer Hartman actually is.
Take for example the episode Urban Jungle, Sam’s eco friendliness is taken up to eleven, to the point where she starts feeling less like a character and more of a caricature. All she does in this episode is complain about how terrible humanity is, get captured and brainwashed by the villain of the week before getting rescued by Danny in the end.
Oh, and Danny gets ice powers because…..reasons.
I genuinely do feel bad for all the Danny Phantom fans who want to see a legit continuation or reboot, I came across a ton of amazing fan art and AU stories/webcomics that are a billion times more entertaining than the shit we got in season three.
But alas, Nickelodeon has made it clear that they aren’t interested in a Danny Phantom revival/reboot, as they seem to only want comedy shows. Plus even if there was some sort of continuation, I doubt fans would support it if Hartman was heavily involved. Considering that he’s spent the last couple of years destroying any good will he had left with animation fans.
Still, while the show may never get a proper continuation or revival, it will continue to live on in fan media form.

I only found out about Cringetober AFTER October was over. What's more cringey than doing it three months later and also using my own list? Credits of the OG trend to @sleeprann on Deviantart, and Awestin Martinez.
Day 1: Heterochromia
I kept the heterochromia itself pretty basic and went all in on the 2000's aesthetic that was hyper cringey and self aware but also unapologetic and fun.
Tumblr media
Day 2: Self Insert
I'll explain this one a little bit: I had exactly one self insert OC when I was a kid and it was for a short lived nuzelock comic. She would find the person I've become so cringey.
Tumblr media
Day 3: Gary Stu
This started as a joke that no one knows what a Gary Stu is. When looking up examples, fucking SPENCER FROM ICARLY WAS LISTED. WHAT MALE POWER FANTASY DOES SPENCER REPRESENT??? SETTING RANDOM OBJECTS ON FIRE AND ONLY HAVING TEENAGE FRIENDS WTF? Anyways here's the Iconic Gary Stu Kirito from SAO doing that one spencer shay meme. Gary Stu and Mary Sue aren't valid terms, I'll get into this another time.
Tumblr media
Day 4: Glomping
Thank god these days are behind us. Never hug a stranger at mach speed ever again.
Tumblr media
Day 5: Furry OC
I do draw furries sometimes! I just don't do it often because I have a strict NSFW policy while living with others as a form of respect for our shared spaces, and every time I've accepted a furry commission or request I've been tricked into doing something fetishized or NSFW. Which has made me more than disappointed and frustrated. I like furry designs, I love playing with textiles and color pallets. So it's not off the table, I just need the NSFW rule to be taken seriously in the future. the last time was an obvious kink and it was a minor who requested it, off topic, but SUPER DON'T PUT ME IN THAT POSITION. You're way too young to be interacting with people in that way and I'm never going to enable that ever. I will find your mom and let her know. Anyways,
Tumblr media
Day 6: Big Ass Sword
Big sword. Little baby.
Tumblr media
Day 7: Crackship.
Does anyone here who likes the Percy Jackson/Heroes of Olympus series remember Jason X Brick? Or are you too young to know what I'm talking about? Or maybe I hallucinated that micro chasm of the internet. Anyways,
Tumblr media
Day 8: Deviantart Base.
I didn't know how to interpret this one, so I did both things I figured it'd be. I found a base on DA and drew over it (base credit linked here,) And drew a base for people to use, I just did a similar style to the base I found. The OG artist does a mix of sfw and nsfw but the filter is turned on by default so you shouldn't see anything you aren't prepared to just opening the link passively.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Day 9: Nicktoons
Every actually good cartoon seemed to get banished to Nicktoonz, and it made me incredibly sad when it happened, but happy that I could expect something good to be playing during the block that something else I didn't like was going on the main channel. I decided to feature the ones that were my faves growing up, My Life as a Teenage Robot, El Tigre, and Danny Phantom (Butch Hartman DO NOT INTERACT)
Tumblr media
Those are all the prompts that I've done so far! I'm keeping the styles simple and quick so I don't stress too much with other things on my plate. Here's the next items on the list:
10- Musical Animatics
11- Flower Crowns
12- Childhood OCs
13- Pokemon Gijinkas
14- Ponysona
15- Song Lyrics
16- Self-Shipping
17- Angel/Demon OC
18- Tumblr Sexy Man
19- Object Head
20- Lisa Frankification
21- Candy Gore
22- Impractical Outfits
23- Vine Animatics
24- MS Paint
25- Nyan Cat
26- Cyberpunk
27- Lolita Fashion
28- Rainbow/Black OC
29- Vocaloids
30- Warrior Cats
31- Cookie Run Gijinkas

6. [Anything that might inspire you subconsciously (i.e. this horse wasn’t supposed to look like the Last Unicorn but I see it)] ((i know we literally just talked abt dwj influence feed me more) ALSO, SO I CAN BULLY YOU: 8. [What’s an old project idea that you’ve lost interest in] LASTLY: 21. [Art styles nothing like your own but you like anyways]
6. Ok well for those NOT in the know, Diana Wynne Jones (who wrote Howl's Moving castle) wrote the chrestomanci series which was to me what HP is to the entire world but no TERF drama. Kaori Yuki's mangas Angel Sanctuary and Count Cain. Sabriel, obviously, primed me for TLT. OH UH BATTLESTAR GALACTICA... if you ever watched it I think you'd be like ooooh this explains *everything*. Frankenstein and Bernie Wrightson's illustrations of it. I think this has become increasingly more obvious through the years. High contrast western classical work like Rembrandt and Caravaggio. Everything out of the Baroque period of work. Norman Rockwell's narrative paintings. I'm not as fond of him now but he work was v influential on me once. I was also really into Speed Racer as a kid (my real first anime obsession) and... Butch Hartman's cartooning in Danny Phantom. I loved how angular and geometric his work was!! How flat and graphic. Fun stuff.
8. *dead eyed stare* you literally do not even know the half of it bc I have so many things I've begun and never shown anyone
21. I love clay sculpture work. There's this artist I follow whose name idr but they make clay monster sculpts and they're soooo cool. I'd say sculpture in general though some personal favorites are Laocoon and his sons, and Richard Serra's large spiral pieces at the DIA Beacon. Anything by Bernini, and all Gothic and baroque architecture.

NEW SERIES ON BLOG: My Top 5 Favorite Voiceover Roles (1/???)
I decided to do a fun new series on my blog sharing my Top 5 Favorite Voiceover Roles by a different actor. Only cartoon, anime, and mayhaps video games will be used (no live action roles).
For this first post, I'll be sharing my top 5 for... Rob Paulsen! He's my all-time favorite voice actor and celebrity in general. Super talented man who's been voicing many of the cartoons/movies we grew up watching for generations.
But first, the honorable mentions!
ZeFronk from Tasty Time with ZeFronk (cute Disney shorts with Rob using a fun French accent. Did I unlock a core memory?)
Yakko Warner from Animaniacs (undeniably one of his most iconic roles)
The Narrator from Mickey, Donald, and Goofy in The Three Musketeers (overall a fun charming role that has Rob really show off his singing chops)
Jack Fenton, the Box Ghost, and Technus from Danny Phantom (hard to really choose between the three, which are all fun roles which have very differing personalities)
Raphael from 1987's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (a role I really felt was Rob's breakout animation role)
Foot Lieutenant from Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (since he was the series' voice director, it felt natural that a TMNT legend like him to lend his voice in another iteration)
Rev Runner from Loonatics Unleashed (whether the fast-paced speaking was all Rob, Rev makes for an entertaining character)
Now onto the Top 5!
5. Pinky from Animaniacs and Pinky and the Brain
Tumblr media
This is one of the newer roles I've been exposed to (I didn't have a childhood connection with the series), but as an adult, I've grown to appreciate how much of an amazing staple to cartoons it is. Pinky is one of two characters Rob voices in this beloved franchise. Between the two, I grew to love Pinky over Yakko because the amount of heart this seemingly dumb lab rat has. Pinky is very endearing and I can see why this is one of Rob's favorite roles.
4. Bobble from the Disney Fairies film franchise
Tumblr media
How many people remember the Disney Fairies franchise? Did any of you watch the movies? I most certainly did, and I remember how goofy but also charming Bobble was in the first film, named after Disney's most iconic fairy. What makes Bobble extra special for me is that this was the first role that had me realize, "This Rob Paulsen guy is in a lot of stuff I watch". Bobble maybe comic relief, but he's still an endearing character, much like Rob's many other characters.
3. Mark Chang from The Fairly Oddparents
Tumblr media
I might be remembering wrong, but I always really liked Mark in Butch Hartman's iconic cartoon series. He was always so funny, even if he was a reccuring character. What I love most about this character is what Rob brought to the table for Mark, including the story behind how he was cast. Rob brought something very different to the table when he first auditioned by giving this alien the surfer dude voice we all recognize, while others gave him a rather generic alien voice. It's hard to imagine Mark NOT be voiced by Rob Paulsen, who we all know is a legend.
2. Carl Wheezer from Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius
Tumblr media
Hard to find an image that isn't meme related, but Carl Wheezer is a character of my childhood. This was my first known Rob Paulsen character, and Carl has always been my favorite character from Jimmy Neutron. He's very sweet, awkward, and loveable, and Rob delivered it perfectly. This, along with the top pick, is a reason why I wanted to say thank you to Rob for being a big part of my childhood.
And #1 is.... Donatello from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2012)!
Tumblr media
Although this series premiered when I was a teenager, it's still a nostalgic favorite of mine. Rob returns to the voice acting stage, and the TMNT franchise as a whole, as the brainy and awkward Donatello. There's just SO much to love about Donnie, because he's always been a great and funny character. Rob is literally the perfect Donatello, and nothing will ever change that.

@cartoongirlshenanigans
Although Butch Hartman is (from my old experience with his official fandom forum) extremly homophobic his cartoons, at least from my point of view, have surprisingly lots of male character fanservice.
I don't know what he expected (especially adults or late teenage years) fans to do when he gives them so much male character inspiration for nsfw stuff.
I can't judge though if it was done with a female audience in mind, but if you ask me then characters like Mr. Lanzer shirtless probably appeals most likely to a person who's into hairy bear men.
( And for me it's hard to see hairy chubby Mr. Lanzer without imagine him in a lgbt nsfw context. Also Mr. Lanzer in drag is perfect for me and probably also more appeals to people who are lgbt or like lgbt art )
Plus muscular characters in his cartoons often being shown shirtless too sounds quite much to me like fanservice and it still for me looks very much targeted to muscular gay men audience. (or people who like this body shape and lgbt art)

Retro Review: Danny Phantom
Tumblr media
I’ve never really done a full proper review on this blog, but I was inspired to rewatch the cartoons I was nostaglic of, but hadn’t seen in forever and a half, and chose to start with Danny Phantom to see if it held up after all these years, or if it was a cheesy product of its time. Danny Phantom was a cartoon created by Butch Hartman, who also created the Fairly Odd Parents and TUFF Puppy, which aired on Nickelodeon for three seasons from 2004 - 2007. The show starred Danny Fenton, a 14 year old boy who acquired ghost super powers from a portal mishap. He’s joined by his friends: the meat obsessed tech nerd Tucker Foley, and the goth eco-friendly feminist “ultra recyclo vegetarian” Sam Manson. Danny also has an egghead older sister Jasmine, a clueless father Jack, and a hyper competent badass mother named Maddie who doesn’t get the recognition she deserves. It’s also remembered fondly as the only show in history with a rap theme song that isn’t cringey, and hasn’t aged poorly either. It’s held up well, and the tempo and rhythm feels like it’s pumping you up for some superhero action. Danny Phantom mostly sold itself as a comedy, and while my adult sense of humor didn’t have me splitting my sides, it was still chuckling or smiling while I watched their goofy antics. The slow progression of Danny’s powers was well structured, the characters were pretty likeable, and for the first two seasons, the dynamics were good. The show addressed real teenage relationship drama in a good and meaningful way, especially in the second season. Even antagonist characters like Mr. Lancer get scenes where they’re gentle, soft-spoken, and make it clear to the viewer that they’re not out to get Danny, he just has a bad knack for getting into trouble. Danny Phantom has a truly memorable rogues gallery of villains, and that’s not something you can say for most cartoons. Skulker, Ember, Johnny 13 and Kitty, the ghost bounty hunter, and of course, Vlad Plasmius. The only other cartoons I can think of that aren’t comic book cartoons with memorable rogues galleries is Xiaolin Showdown, the Powerpuff Girls, and Codename: Kids Next Door. Courage the Cowardly Dog and The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy had some recurring villains, but I wouldn’t go so far as to call them a rogues gallery. Yes, the show had its... Butch Hartman-isms. There’s also some things that are a bit squicky now that weren’t as big of a deal at the time, like Danny straight up is shown using his powers to sneak into the girls locker room, and the musical cues play it off like a joke. The show also just shows its time period on its sleeve, like how all the female characters are overqualified badasses, while the male characters all share one brain cell, and Vlad Plasmius stole it. But the tone, characters, and story are good, in the first two seasons at least. Unfortunately, in the 3rd season, it all goes to crap. Danny doesn’t know how his parents will react to him being a ghost, even though he’s told them before and he has seen how they responded to it more than once. Vlad primes the bounty hunter to do... something to aid his plans. But she never gets around to it and they forget that final confrontation between them. Even Vlad goes out like a punk and Tucker is the 14 year old mayor because.... anyway, I’d give it a B- as a collective, and an A- for just the first two seasons on its own. All in all, it’s a solid watch. It’s certainly no Avatar: the Last Airbender, but in an age when serialized storytelling in kids shows wasn’t the norm, I remember rushing home from school to catch the latest episode, and happily watching the marathon of the show before the finale. (for you younger kids, a marathon is when a network airs a long stretch of episodes in chronological order, usually as a promotion or as a ratings trap. It was the closest thing to binge watching before streaming existed.) It’s on Paramount+, so if you want to give it a rewatch to relive your childhood, or you’ve never seen it, I think it warrants a view, as long as you remember it came out in the early 2000s, and lacks modern sensibilities in certain areas as a result.

Ok, so Butch Hartman’s idea for Flynn Fenton is really really stupid. And everyone knows that (at least on Tumblr, no clue about the rest of the internet). But I just… I have to brake down just how stupid it is. Like I watched the video, and I was just having nope and WTF moments throughout it. So, I’m just airing my thoughts.
1. How do Danny and Jazz not know anything about their brother? No seriously, it makes no sense in and out of universe. Your telling me that their parents what took down all photos of this kid? Not to mention that the other people in Amity Park just never mentioned him? That none of the teachers would be paying special attention to Jazz and Danny and trying to check in on them. That word of the missing brother wouldn’t be something that their classmates wouldn’t know about and taunt them with? That Vlad wouldn’t find out about this kid (he is obsessed with the Fentons and Jack’s mistakes) and use it to taunt Danny with? I’m sorry this is just the first what the fuck is this.
2. Your telling me that Maddie and Jack didn’t take precautions after the accident so that they don’t lose another kid? Like Hartman describes it as happening like Danny’s accident which means that they didn’t take any security measures after losing one kid. I know that they don’t always think things through, but that seems out of character for them. They care about their children deeply, and if they know of something being dangerous to them they will actually take some steps to look out for their kids.
3. Why would Jazz just ask for parents out of the blue about having an older brother that’s missing? She would do research on her own before bringing anything up. She would look for birth certificates, newspaper articles (because seriously missing kid would make it to the news), and anything else she could get her hands on. She would have evidence before comforting her parents about anything.
4. Also, on still on Jazz, why would she not be the one to brake through to her older brother? Danny was 2 years old, he wouldn’t have the same connection as Jazz. And if this all starts because of Jazz’s dreams then it makes more sense for Jazz to resolve the issue. Also she would probably be able to have a better chance of reaching her brother. She might have fuzzy memories that she could tug on and use (maybe like a nickname or something that would be unique to the siblings) that to reach out to Flynn. Danny wouldn’t have any of that. He was two years old.
5. The whole after being taken was just a lot of yikes for me so I-I don’t even know how to brake it down on that end. Why did this powerful ghost need a ten year old human to solve her issues? Does Hartman know what an Attorney General even is? How would word of this guy never make it to Danny before his parents find out about his secret? I-I isn’t there already a cop in the Ghost Zone? How have Danny and Flynn never encountered each other before this point?
6. You’re telling me that Child Protective Serves weren’t called? I know this is a cartoon, but seriously a kid goes missing and that is going to be looked into. Hell there could be drama from that angle (in fanfics, doesn’t work with canon). Maybe Danny and Jazz were taken away for a while and recently returned to their family and that’s why both Danny and Jazz cover about what’s really going on with Danny. They know that they’ll go back into the foster system if word gets out about Danny’s accident and what is really happening. Maybe after the accident a case worker keeps coming by to check on Danny and Jazz, trying to find out if they really feel safe and making sure that neither of them get hurt again. Danny and Jazz not saying anything because they don’t want to go back into the Foster Care system. Danny working really really hard to hide his injuries from ghost fights knowing fully well that his parents might be blamed for them. You could have awkward moments between the kids and their parents trying to figure each other out again due to the long period of time not being together. Maybe they are more cautious about ghost hunting stuff around their kids because of that (or at least Maddie is). Or if they weren’t taken by the Foster Care system: there would probably be a case worker making sure that Danny and Jazz were safe, that they aren’t in danger from their parents’ work, that maybe Maddie and Jack couldn’t do their ghost experiments in the house, etc. This could lead to Danny and Jazz both covering for Danny’s ghost activities. Hell, before Jazz knows about Danny’s secret she could be on his case because she’s concerned about whatever his doing could get them taken away from their parents. She’s both concerned about her little brother and trying to make sure that they aren’t taken away from their parents. This could make a good fic, just not in Hartman’s hands.
Yeah, there is a lot of he clearly didn’t think any of this through. There is probably more that I’m not even thinking of. Like there would be some sort of fallout from Flynn going missing like he did. There is no logic, even with it being a cartoon, for Jazz and Danny not to know anything about having an older brother.

Of Moons, Millionares and Mothers Part 3: Storkules in Duckburg! aka THE INCREDIBLE STORKULES TERRIBLE BUT WELL MEANING ROOMATE OUT OF MYTH
Tumblr media
Hello all you happy people! And welcome and welcome back to Of Moons, Millionares and Mothers, my look at the season 2 arcs of Ducktales! This arc was paid for by WeirdKev27 and I truly enjoy his support. if you want to know how to commission your own reviews or to get a guarnateed review of me of your choice from me a month, stick around to the end. I realized that shoving all my plugs in up top may be driving people away and while I DO make them because I want to make a living off this, i’ts not fair to those of you who simply can’t afford to buy a lot of extra shit like myself to keep shoving it in your face.
Previously on the Louie Inc Arc, Louie, after believing he had no skills and it was a matter of when not if he ws going to die, found his talent: seeing all the angles and thus being Sharper than the Sharpies. With newfound confidence and a chip on his shoulder from Scrooge saying he could one day be a bigger success than Scrooge himself, founding Louie Inc as a result. But what is Louie Inc? Does he actually have a plan or a bunch of buzzwords. And what does STORKULES, MANLY GAY OUT OF MYTH have to do with any of this? Join me under the cut to find out.
Tumblr media
We open with Louie giving Scrooge his sales pitch that is essentially...
Tumblr media
Naturally Scrooge buys none of it. I mean he’s somewhere in his hundreds, he’s probably seen about 80 thousand pitches that amount to “I have no plan but give me money anyway”. There’s a reason there’s a Butch Hartman shaped crater on the lawn from where he threw his ass out.
Scrooge does mentor the lad, or at least attempt to pointing out he needs an actual product or service (Louie rejects the idea of a lemonade stand as too easy), or as he puts it “Find a problem and create a solution”.
Tumblr media
While the basic PRINCIPAL isn’t bad, find something people want or need and provide it, phrasing it that way sounds like “find a problem people are having and exploit the shit out of that problem for fun and profit.” Granted that IS a guiding principal of business, it’s just not something an uncle should be teaching his kids. They should be teaching them about the anime and cartoons they grew up with as I do with my niece and nibling.
He does show him a valid example of this in action in the form of Donald. Turns out Donald has found a good way to make money while he looks for a job, can relate: since Duckburg is facing a housing shortage, likely because several square blocks probably get destroyed by Scrooge’s Adventures, Glomgold’s Schemes, Superhero Battles, whatever creation went horribly wrong for Gyro, etc at least once a week. So he’s taken it upon himself to offer up the spare room to whoever can rent it.. and to steal Scrooge’s chandelier which even when caught he still takes anyway. Scrooge.. you called the guy a god-damn moocher in the season premiere, despite the fact he lives there soley because YOU offered and because he’s you know, being responsible and staying by his boys so they have their father figure around. So yeah I feel he’s doing this partly out of spite as is the McDuck way. I mean if your going to call him a freeloader just for being a responsible parent, then he’s going to take it up a damn notch.
Scrooge proceeds to laugh off Louie wanting a million dollars and gives him a dime instead because of course he was. Seriously Louie there are two other billionaires in town who are FAR dumber and far more easily swindled. Just go get star up capital from them. Hell with Glomgold all you’d have to do is tell him it’d upset scrooge and he’d literally throw money at you. Or give you a shark full of money. He needs the shark back though. He’s family.
Meanwhile Donald prepares for his new tenant and finds.. THE INCREDIBLE STORKULES! Who to his mounting horror as he realizes it, IS the new tenant. And who throws him into the sun. Cue credits.
So after Donald somehow survives being thrown into the sun, Storkules explains why he’s here: Zeus responded to his son playing the lute a lot like any rational reasonable
Tumblr media
No of course he responded to the “crime” of “playing his instrument a lot” with sending a swarm of harpies on the town then blaming Storkules for it and casting him out. What’s most shocking is not the action, this is honestly him staying the course of being a fucking disgrace, but that Zeus somehow ISN’T the biggest asshole i’ve dealt with this week. No that honor is reserved as always for this bitch:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Keep in mind she manages to be this obnoxious in only TWO scenes. Also keep in mind I had to put up with Julie for a MUCH larger chunk of the previous two volumes I covered before volume 5 yesterday for my Scott Pilgrim Retrospective and she is ALWAYS like this and you now feel my pain.
This does create a problem though: Zeus casts Storkules out until he’s a responsible adult.. and thus paints Storkules as the bad guy... in a situation where the only other person in the story sent a swarm of HARPIES down at him for simply playing his music too loud. It just dosen’t work as a catalyst: Storkules objectively did nothing wrong. The only person he annoyed was a person who clearly dosen’t love, respect or like his son in any way shape or form anyway and essentially assaulted him and a bunch of innocent people via harpie and then cast him out. Zeus is an abusive asshole and i’ts weird the narrative sides with HIM and not our well meaning doofus. Zeus being an asshole with harpies is not a bad catalyst for the episode, and the harpies being unleashed is used well.. it’s just not a good catalyst for THIS story to try and portray an abuser as in the right. And make no mistake Zeus is a domestic abuser: he had his son mind controlled to try and MURDER innocent people, something Storkules begged him not to do, sent a swarm of creatures after him for the crime of playing his music too loud and in his next episode manipulatives Storkules sad emotional state for personal gain. Why would you try and paint THIS jackass as in the right?
Speaking of painting this jackass in the right sadly.. this episode does not do my boy donald justice. In most episodes he’s pretty nuanced and i’ts fair enough he’d be frustrated by Storkules as a roomate. Storkules has little sense of personal space, breaks his stove thinking theirs hydra in it, makes a mess of the kitchen making them a meal, and in general clearly dosen’t know how to live with a roomate much less in modern society. He has valid concerns and the episode COULD have used it that way.. but he’s also horribly impatient with Storkules. He refuses to get the guy just hasn’t had to live in a modern society and dosen’t know HOW to function in it and instead of helping him just gets mad again and again and gets really pissed when it’s clear Storkules dosen’t have a job and didn’t consider paying rent. He’s not WRONG to want him to pay Rent, despite what ironically the musical Rent would try and have you believe, but he dosen’t have any patience with the guy. And stork isn’t nearly coming on as strong as he normally does. The worst he does is cook the guy lunch and bring his donald fan art with him. Which we don’t see but I am assuming is mostly naked. What i’m saying is for once that while still bombastic, Storkules isn’t trying to force a relationship/friendship on him and simply wants to learn t be an adult from his best friend.. and Donald isn’t bothering teaching him.
Tumblr media
Asking for rent or for him not to destroy the stove is fine, but not explaining WHY he needs either of those things or why he needs boundaries, he makes a roomate list, isn’t helping the guy. And this would be fine... but the episode dosen’t call Donald out on it for no real reason. It feels like it’s setting up for a “you should learn to wokrk with someone instead of just screaming at them aseop” that never comes and like with Zeus takes his side because shutup. I’d also LIKE to say this is the only time the writers reduced one of the cast to a caracture of themselves.. but I can’t.  Several episodes in season 3 forgot Louie’s character development and another episode in season 2, The Duck Knight Returns!, somehow reduced both Scrooge and Dewey to parodies of themselves with Scrooge SOMEHOW, despite Della as stubborn as she is being in his care and by his side for decades and Movies bein ga huge business, not having seen a movie since the 1920′s and not knowing how they work and Dewey being reduced to just hyperactive moron. It isn’t as common as other shows like say Regular Show, The Loud House or, for the exact reason I lost intrest, Rick and Morty, but I still expect better, especially since they went into this season KNOWING Donald would be gone for half of it and this would likely be one of his only spotlight episodes.
Back at the good part of the plot, Louie is having a company meeting aka already treating Huey and Webby like his employees. Webby of course is glad to sign on, if little help in actually coming up with a product while Huey just wants to nope out. And if your wondering why Dewey isn’t involved Louie outright says he’d make a bad employee and while Dewey rises from his bed to object.. he stops halfway to opening his mouth and concludes he has a point. Best gag of the episode. Louie being louie easily cons Huey into staying by making Webby his charts officer.
So the three have a corporate retreat at Funso’s... granted they don’t have a product but Louie figures this might help. Huey.. still wants out of this and suggest since they already spent what they had on ski ball “Company over?”. It’s clear that Huey just sees this as another one of Louie’s short sighted schemes... and while he’s not ENITRELY wrong, Louie has genuine ambition.. he just has no earthly idea what he’s doing and is shooting way too high.. but for understandable reasons. 1) He’s 11 at this point. 11 year olds aren’t great at business strategy or reinging it in. 2) he wants to live up to what Scrooge said to prove he can be successful and really be worth something like his mom was.
But sometimes fate throws you one and the harpies bust in. And while Louie wants to do nothing and hope they go away Huey and Webby spring into action.. as does Storkules, who had to leave but warns donald there’s Orzo in the slowcooker and to not open it “LEST THE PASTA FAIL TO ABSORB THE BROTH!” Which is just.... Chris’ best line dleivery the episode. He says it like he’s saying the title of an old Stan Lee and Jack Kirby comic, i’ts wonderful.
So our heroes defeat them and Louie steps in to charge for the service and quickly comes up with a company idea and name “Harp-B-Gone” (A Subsidary of Louie Inc). Louie hires Storkules on the spot. Storkules proudly tells Donald he has a job the next day and goes off to it. What follows is our heroes hilarously shooting a commerical with Storkules playing a baby to promote themselves so they can help who needs it. They just need to find out what they want.. and thanks to the JWG and the harpies stealing it find out they go after people’s most treasured posessions   Cue Ghostbusters-Style Montage
And this isn’t just me saying thing. The Rewriting History Entry (Which as a series weirdly stops around mid-season 2 and I don’t get why frank hasn’t gone back and finished it since) states they specifically based this whole operation on ghostbusters and the entire sequence of our heroes cleanin up the town reminds me of it. The highlight of it is a glomgold cameo where he’s kidnapped.. and refuses to pay so Louie just lets him go. And were this an innocent person who couldn’t afford it, i’d call him a monster.. but it’s glomgold. he brought this on himself.. and also sues himself for it. Wonder if he won.
So with their stars rising, our heroes get booked on the hottest show in town: Dewey Dew-Night! I had honestly forgotten there was a Dewey Dew-Night segment in there, and delighted I get to talk about this recurring bit.  It’s one of the shows funniest runners and just perfectly FITS Dewey: of course the most egotistical and energetic of the kids would not only want to be a late hnight host but make up his own show. I also love the slow evolution of it: it started as something everyone clearly knew about but he stlill tried to keep hidden, slowly escalated to him allowing the rest of his siblings (Webby very much included) and the giant man who stalks his uncle in, and by later this season he’s putting the show online in the web shorts and gladly shooting it into space, with Season 3 having him spend the first half of let’s get dangerous making a documentary that includes an episode of the show featuring Darkwing. It’s a small thing sure, but it’s the little things like this that make the show special.
The show does reveal a problem though as it turns out they’ve GOT all the harpies and while Storkules merely wanted to help, Louie points out they need more to keep a buisness going and naturally never bothered to ask Storkules just how many there were. They need SOME plan to get going. Webby submits a legitamte and great idea, training the harpies as she’s been trying to do in the background of the episode and aside from a hole in the floor they are starting to listen. But Huey is an ass about it and not only shoots it down saying let’s keep the dangerous creatures contained, even though A) he has no idea WHERE they’ve been kept so he can’t verify it’s safe, and since i’ts Donald’s Closet no no it’s not. and B)There’s no where he knows of to keep them. He isn’t aware of the other bin till next season. and C) it’s not ehtical to keep creatures locked up forever epsecially since while the harpies are dangerous they arent’ MALEVOLENT and are clearly acting on instinct. oh and for D) at least she has a plan to keep the company going instead of just wanting to end this and cash out.
Which Huey tries to.. but naturally Louie spent all their money on...
Tumblr media
So their broke.. and Storkules has no rent money and feels like a failure despite having done NOTHING wrong. We do get a clever little nod to Disney’s hercules though “I”m not a hero, i’m a zero”. Webby rightfully glares at Louie who decides to fix it... by sneaking into Donald’s house that night to free the harpies.
Tumblr media
Though to the shows credit it’s a VERY bad idea, and Storkules coming in mid attempt and congradulating Louie when he lies about checking the door gets the kid to come clean. And it’s a nice character moment: He could still go through with it.. but it’s clear he realizes just HOW low he was about to sink to save his own skin and that as much as Storkules WANTS a paycheck and deserves one, it’s not worth hurting people to get it. Louie tries to justify after this.. but can’t.
Unforutnately Donald took a lot of stupid pills this episode, yells about his no pets rule and frees them instead of you know, THINKING for five minutes.
Tumblr media
So yeah NATURALLY Donald is an angry shit about it , refusing to actually TALK to Storkules about this or maybe admit this is partly HIS OWN FAULT. Yes their both at fault, Storkules shoudln’t of shoved a bunch of harpies in a closet. That’s a classic blunder. But Donald still opened it and isn’t called out on taking zero responsibility. Huey sees the fracas and just takes down their days without an accident placard, good stuff and he and webby arrive to help. Donald fights with Storkules and Storkules worries about loosing his friend.. lead to them going after the thing he values most aka donlad and hyjacking the house boat, though the kids manage to get aboard.
As Storkules saves Donald, Louie realizes the most precious thing he has is  his merch and willingly gives it, and his buisness up to save everyone. It’s good character stuff and shows that despite his problems with greed, Louie IS a good kid and will do the right thing. It’s what seperates him from the Rouges Gallery the family faces: He has FLEXIBLE morals but he has morals when it comes down to it. So everyone tosses the stoff to help direct the hapries and make it home tying them up. Donald has a heart to heart with Storkules and agrees to help him find another place, but still considers him a friend and they hug. Awww.  One intresting thing I DID find out from rewriting history is they originally fully intended to have Storkules STAY on the houseboat. He was going to be a permenant member of the household, at least as far as Season 2 was concenred and plans were made for several episodes down the road: the whole bit with him in “The Golden Spear” was simply because he lived there, he was going to be the one Della met in the houseboat, obliviously guilting her about what she’d missed, and he was going to set off the kids subplot in “Whatever Happened to Donald Duck?”
This ended up not happneing for logistical reasons: Frank, and I swear this was the term he used, felt they already had the perfect Himbo in Launchpad and it was just too much HImbo energy for the two to coexist without one taking the others screen time or neither getting a lot.
The next reason was having a god around simply broke the story: He cited the gilded man from “Nothing Can Stop Della Duck!” as a specific example. There were just too many hoops to jump to have him not break any story he should be around for.  Finally with Della being added to the cast soon there simply wasn’t room in the main cast. Della brought it up to 9, Storkules would make it 10, and as i’ve gone on about the show already had trouble ballancing it’s cast, something Frank admitted to. Adding him would both be too big a stiatus quo change and be one on top of the massive one of Della joining the cast. So he was dropped back to recurring and only showed up one more time. And while it was the right call I am dismayed he didn’t show up for the whatever happened to donald duck subplot and it does feel very weird he never adresses Donald being gone despite, at least for season 2, apparently living in Duckburg. Otherwise though as funny as this wouldv’e been.. yeah it was the right call.
Scrooge returns... having been absent all episode because otherwise it wouldn’t work and easily saw Louie loosing it all coming.. but gives him a can of lemonade for his troubles and comforts the boy. The heart of htis arc and what makes it work at it’s best.. is these two. Scrooge GENUINELY wants to help Louie see his potetial successor in buisness: oh sure adventure wise he’s throughly covered.. but Webby, Dewey and Della all are more focused on the addventure part and that’s where their passion and talent lies, Huey’s better at science and given his close frinedship with fenton and how much that part of things seems to truly inspire him, i’ts what he was born for, and Donald just wants a regualar life and can’t manage his own life much less a company.
Louie is the only one in his family whose the right fit to inhereit that part of his legacy and I feel that’s why he takes a special intrest in him and webby over the other two: While he loves all of them and will clearly again leave a piece of his fortune and empire to all of them, Webby is the most like him, as we later find out not coincidentally in the slightest, when it comes to adventuring and curosity and a love of exploration. But Louie is the most like him in other ways; He’s cynical, money driven and passionate. Scrooge simply wants him to be as good a person and buisnessperson as he can be and is trying to push him in the right direction. And does so here by pointing out that failure isn’t a huge problem..it happens, comes with the terriotiry and as we’ve seen with life and times, even with portions of it clearly not happening in this universe, he failed a LOT to get here. What matters is that he tries and tries to do it the right way.
Scrooge also sympathizes as he was buying a lemonade company in cape suzette, giving Louie the can as a present... but laments there’s no cheap effective way to deliver the lemons. Louie notices the harpies going after the can after he throws it and Webby controlling them with it and muses that theyd idn’t think about what THEY wanted.. nad rightfully gets punched across the lawn by Webby, whose had to spend an entire episode having her surrogate brothers talk down to her and ignore her valid ideas. She dosen’t even open her eyes she just bops him one.
So we end with Scrooge having enlisted the hapries, Louie trying to take credit again and both realizing they might just steal the lemons instead of work for them. Ha ha ha their going to get so sued.
Final Thoughts: This one was mediocre. It has some good points, Louies arc continues to fascenate me, Huey’s done with this shit attitude is hilarous, and Storkules is at his best in this episode: his crush on Donald is toned down from this..
Tumblr media
To this
Tumblr media
To the point I could see shipping them off this one if Storkules episode didn’t have him do eveyrthing short of .. well see above.  So it’s not WITHOUT merit: I love me a ghost busters style plot, there are great jokes and Chris Dimatopolis is a gem as always. Glad he’s getting work after this show on Invincible and hope he gets to play Darkwing again some day. But the Donald stuff and the fairly predictable plot drag this one down. I’ts fairly obvious they’ll run out of harpies, Louie will have spent the money and they’ll somehow get free. It’s not a terrible episode but it’s it’s sandwiched story wise between two straight up classics on both sides: the previous two episodes were even better than I remembered and the next two are incredibly good: Whateve Happened to Della Duck?! is one of their finest hours and The Outlaw Scrooge McDuck, while not making my best of list for the series as a whole is still one of my favorites for the season.  It’s just disapointing this one wasn’t nearly as good as I remmebered and it’s understandable why I forgot almost all of it, unlike the previous two episodes. Thankfully as I said better’s over the horizon.
NEXT TIME ON OF MOONS, MILLIONARES AND MOTHERS: I’m taking a break for a week. One of two weeklong breaks for the arc, the other being the first week of July where i’m on vacation anyway (Though i’ll be doing the episode I would’ve done for that week the week before to keep the pace up, so no worries),
As for why, it’s my utmost honor to announce GOOF WEEK! Goof Week is a weeklong celebration of Goofy’s birthday. The idea came about because as I do for the big three, I intended to just do a shorts special. But Kev , the guy who made this very review possible, suggested doing the two part Goof Troop pilot. And since kev pays for a house of mouth episode a month anyway and thaks to you lovely people I hit my patreon stretch goal to review the goofy movie, I figured “why not make a week out of it. Hence Goof week. So next week we’ll have a review of the two part pilot for Goof Troop, the special Sports Goof, the House of Mouse episode Super Goof, your regularly schedule shorts spectacular, with The Goofy Movie for the grand finale! yaaahoooooieeee!
When we come back i’ll be shuffling episodes around slightly so I can do the Della comics from the Ducktales Tie-In Comic before her debut and in time for Donald’s own theme week in June, i’ll be saving “Whatever Happened to Della Duck?” for the week after Donald Week. Instead next we get a fun wild west adventure as Scrooge tells a story of his outlaw days, his tension with goldie and his encounter with a certain robber baron as John D Rockerduck FINALLY makes his screen debut. Yee-Haw!
If you liked this review, subscribe and follow for more and consider joining my patroen, patreon.com/popculturebuffet. I have exclusive reviews, my most recent duck based one being an obscure carl barks story about wigs and the boys attempting to murder a guy with a blow gun, and your contribution helps me reach my goals and thus gets everyone, patreon or not, a bunch of neat new reviews. If you get me to 20 dollars a month, i’m currently at 15, EVERYONE will get a monthly darkwing duck reviews, reviews of the two remaning ducktales 87 mini series including the origin of GIZMOOOODDUUUUUCCCKKKK, and a review of the Danny Phantom movie The Ultimate Enemy. And with the month running out NOW’S the time to join. YOu’ll also get to pick one of the shorts for my Donald Duck birthday specail next month, so if you want to join in NOWS the time. But wether you can or you can’t, thank you for reading, i’ts been a pleasure.

Things I Would’ve Loved To See In A Danny Phantom Reboot
I’m a big enthusiast when it comes to storytelling, and Danny Phantom literally has so much potential. And I’m very upset Butch was too coward to go darker. So here are my thoughts on if DP had a reboot:
Deeper ghost lore and kinds of ghost, A lot of fanfiction I have come across have so many versions of lore that all totally make sense and are supper cool (e.g. Ghost core types, states of ghosts, the idea of ghosts being ghosts, ghosts’ obsession). Ghosts that wreak havoc upon Amity Park because they are so filled with rage and need to be contained and put back in the ghost zone. Ghosts that, despite having moved on from their past, stay because they want to see the next Cowboys vs Aliens 3 movie happen and only cause trouble for the fun of it (exhibit A, Johnny).
Spookier ghosts, just give us way meaner ghosts! Ghosts that have eyeballs hanging out! You can’t just give us funky ghosts and funky ghosts only. From the physically gore-ish to the psychologically horrifying ghosts (Like Penelope Spectra!), I would have loved to see these kind of ghosts and episodes.
Different cultural interpretations of ghosts. Of course, done respectfully, with deep research and understanding of said culture. So many cultures touch on the spiritual aspect of ghosts and spirits. It makes for incredible stories and ideas.
Danny Phantom being Trans, need I say more? (Butch Hartman can suck a dick)
Danny Phantom with much more unique, mysterious powers, he’s a Halfa, of course he’s a mystery, a phantom! While other ghosts have powers solely linked to an obsession or something they relate to closely, Danny doesn’t have that. He’s a mystery. I want seasons of Danny exploring and discovering powers he doesn’t have the means of understanding or controlling because it’s just that bizarre and one of a kind. Maybe he can tap into the memories of ghosts when they are extremely emotional, something about having the human connection?
Hilarious quirks about being a half ghost, like Danny showing up in photos looking like a cryptic entity, being super silent, scaring the shit out of people. Fun ghost stuff.
The bullies need to have their character development moments!! They had so much potential for character growth and exploration. Topics like toxic masculinity, abuse and bullying could’ve been explored through them! GIVE THEM THE CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT THEY DESERVED
The friendship between Tucker, Sam and Danny being tested in the form of their own self reflection. People have also written good fanfiction about it, and the one I love the most is when Sam is being questioned about being friends with Tucker and Danny because of her favoritism towards unconventional-ism to spite her parents (Of course, Sam loves her friends with a passion). Or maybe when Danny has had a tough day (i.e getting found out by his parents and just showing up to Tucker’s home) and the two have no idea what to do, but in the end, they just needed to be there for Danny and likewise. Friendships like relationships are complicated. I would love to see these things being explored.
Danny’s ghost powers becoming a little more unpredictable in the later season. In relation to the earlier comment about ghosts obsession, ghosts can also become powerful with fickle emotion, especially aggression. Danny has always tiptoed the line of human and ghost, but when he gets too angry in a particular episode, he goes absolutely feral, intense ghost form and stuff. It’s a new thing he has to struggle with and it even makes him fear becoming ghost.
More Danny and Jazz moments, because siblings need so much screen time to annoy each other. But also, I would love moments where Jazz has Danny’s back and sometimes, covers up Danny’s disappearances in front of their parents with humorous excuses.
Danny’s secret is revealed to his parents in an unfavorable situation, and his parents struggle to accept and understand Danny’s revelation. Jack and Maddie have spent their whole lives thinking ghosts are bad, and the only way to solve a ghost problem is to shoot at it. With Danny, its a whole ‘nother stack of cards to deal with. From the fact that their son is no longer human, throwing a wrench into everything they know about ghosts, to holy shit, we actually killed our son. Maddie especially finds it harder to accept, believing that they need to help Danny get rid of his ghostly half, even if it meant destroying his core. But Danny doesn’t need help, he’s long accepted that he’s Halfa. Slowly, the Jack and Maddie learn to accept it, and a comically unsure about their jobs as ghost hunters.
Hey that movie about Planet something, never existed. Saving a planet from an asteroid is suppose to be the peak finale of Danny’s reveal to Amity Park as a half human half ghost?? Get outta here
Instead, let’s have a season finale of an epic ghost showdown that even Danny himself, will struggle terribly to defeat. He has to face off against a ghost that even with the help of his friends and his ghost powers, seems almost impossible. Even the ghosts of Amity Park are threatened if they ever get in their way of world domination, and they don’t hesitate to crush the cores of the ghosts. Its a culmination of the past relationships he has made with the ghosts, friends, family, allies, and even nemesis, working together to stop an ultimate evil. Because when he first faces off the ghost, he’s alone, and in their final showdown, he has people who will stick with him thick and thin. With everything he has learnt, struggled to control, and mastered his ghost powers, there is an epic showdown.
Trust me, I have so many ideas for the season finale showdown in my head. The ghost having the power to just grab and destroy a core, or control it. They have their ghost armada and they enjoy playing mind games, torment any poor soul who dares get in her way. Danny Phantom attempts to stop her in the ghost zone before she can enter the human world, but he gets absolutely destroyed, almost having his core taken from it and you can bet that shit will hurt like hell. He gets trapped in the ghost zone, too weak to make it back to the human world and alone, until Vlad of all ghosts, manages to fish him out of the ghost zone and Danny finds that the humans and ghosts have taken refuge from the big Ghost boss.
As much as I dislike Butch Hartman and his homophobic cowardly ass, make no mistake that he pioneered a generation of cartoon and art. He made a style uniquely distinct that even artists reference when it comes to character design. But his stories have so much potential that we can’t shy away from. We need more mature themes for kids to learn, more openly LGBTQ+ friendly episodes and of course, more diverse characters and cast.
Feel free to add more! There’s just so many ideas for a DP reboot, and they really are amazing

okay i'm already procrastinating and i don't plan on sleeping any time soon so here we go.
☆ ✩ my personal ranking for every season 1 Sanders Sides episode. ✩ ☆
i think it's going to be pretty similar to @dukeofonions' but let's see if i find something new to contribute haha. i see you didn't include that one about Patton in the Big Game or whatever, so i'm not including it either xd. also i think i'm going to count Accepting Anxiety as one episode only.
edit: i finished and now i dare you to drink a shot of water every time i say the word spanish or a version of the word comfort and become very well hydrated.
#16 I'm in a Disney Show
(i agree with dukeofonions here) i always forget this episode exists. it was ok in terms of being happy for real life Thomas but as a Sanders Sides episode it didn't do anything. the sides were just giving their opinions but it wasn't very funny or interesting. also i'm bitter because it made me look up the episode he was in and i didn't like it at all. i don't know if i'm too old for those Disney shows now but Thomas was literally the only good part of it, everything else was really dull and boring imo. a waste of time.
however, Logan supporting clickbait is one of the funniest things ever, and i'll never forget it.
#15 Becoming A Cartoon
i didn't hate this episode but it was just .. meh.. you know? several factors contribute to this. one, i couldn't feel much nostalgia for Butch Hartman's shows because i watched them in Spanish, and everything feels really weird when they speak English, i don't like how my old cartoons sound in English. two, it was disappointing to me because we were all desperately waiting for Plot™ and instead they give us this short episode about nothing (oh how the tables have turned now it's the other way around haha). and three, i didn't like the style of the animation :/ their faces and expressions freaked me out, Roman's douchey face still haunts me.
#14 Way Too Adult
here i'm biased because i don't like Patton much, and i didn't back when i watched the series the first time either, so this video was a little disappointingwithout the rest. also it wasn't relatable to me because i am still too young and dependent on my parents haha. but Patton is funny and it's funny to laugh at Thomas' struggling.
#13 The Dark Side of Disney
i've never been a fan of Disney movies. i actually never watched Mulan or the Lion King or Aladdin as a kid, so meh. i liked the ending, though, it was cool to see Virgil have fun and be right for once. it does make me a bit uncomfortable because the way Thomas tries too hard with Virgil's mouth movements and his low voice reminds me of a guy that had made me v uncomfortable not long before watching that video. so an icky feel overall.
#12 A New Year of Lying to Myself
this video was actually kind of fogettable to me. i had a hard time connecting the voices in the song to the characters and idk. i don't love it nor hate it, just .. neutral.
#11 My True Identity
pretty much the same opinion as dukeofonions, again. it's a good introduction and it's good that it was the beginning of it all but on its own it's not very special. i think it's awesome on Thomas to have come up with such a clever idea, like choosing the dad, the teacher and the prince and putting them together and match them with thoughts?? that fit so perfectly?? it really is just very impressive when you think about it, that it was just a random idea he had for a short 5 minute video.
#10 Taking on Anxiety
i liked this video a lot because when i watched it i had recently been a lot on tumblr, and found out through relatable posts that i had anxiety. so watching this video was really fun and it made me happy to feel so seen, specially the intro when Thomas just talks about what it's like to have Anxiety and Virgil is so smug about it.
- ★ -
okay now that those are out of the way things are going to get hard... all the following i love with all my heart so i'm going to rank them based on the smallest things.
#9 Growing Up
once more, Patton isn't my favorite. so that's why i'm putting this here, plus the echo at the end askjhsahg, but i love love this video. i remember we were waiting and oh so ready for the angst of nobody taking Patton seriously. and we received!! i love that though Roman and Logan are antagonists here, they're both so happy about Thomas wanting to have a healthy life. and i just adore the way Logan admits his mistake at the end and asks Patton directly. my heart... also aw.. the nostalgia. i remember none of us knew how to spell Patton's name and were writing it in very funny ways until Thomas and Joan told us lol.
#8 The Mind vs The Heart
when i watched this video the first times i didn't like it much, because i only had eyes for Virgil, but later i came back to it and loved it. so taking that into account i'm putting it here. logicality was the first ship i ever shipped in the show because i saw a gifset on tumblr of Patton screaming "what do you know about love?!" and Logan "apparently more than YOU" and the caption said "MARRIED", and i thought hey yeah... anyway. i love them. they're both my dads since that day.
this video is so so so relatable and i love it. Logan and Patton are so much fun arguing and i love how they compromise at the end and work together. im reconsidering.. i might move it higher? no, fine i'll leave it here.
#7 Making Some Changes
this video was absolutely hilarious. i personally couldn't see it as the Sides still once they were acted by Thomas' friends, i enjoyed it more as that bunch being silly and trying to be the sides but failing in so many ways, while sometimes nailing stuff suddenly. i really don't take this one too seriously as an episode. except Joan!Logan and Valerie!Logan, my beloved... i love how Joan acted as Logan and their voice and that they kept their ace ring on.. there's a reason i had them as my icon for so long. and Valerie looks a bit (a lot) like me with the glasses and dressed in dark colors, plus she spoke Spanish and there's .. no words to describe the joy i felt when seeing/hearing that. wait i'm getting emotional...
#6 My Personality Q&A
when i watched this Virgil was my favorite side and i didn't care much about the rest lol. when i heard his answers i related to him SO much it was scary, and also his voice is so soft and it was all very comforting. it was also when i first starting looking at Logan with more attention, because when he brought up Big Hero 6 and Fall Out Boy and said he didn't sing and would recite it like a poem? it only took a couple seconds but my brain said "me" and never went back.
now this video is a little underwhelming to watch for me, most of the appeal for me was in finding out the answers, and also watching it when we didn't know a lot about the sides. now we know more and want to know more so it's not as fun to me as it was first.
i wish so bad they'd do another one, although i know it would be more difficult with a much bigger audience, i think they can manage and i just need it. the chaos.. the energy.. they all being so savage with each other, learning little random facts about them you didn't expect.. i need it.
- ★ -
oh boy top 5 here we go. the next three are practically a tie. i can't choose.
#5 Alone on Valentines Day
i love Valerie, and the idea of this video was perfect and so perfectly excecuted. every side just giving their crazy opinions on how to woo a random stranger, i laughed SO much. first with Logan speaking simlish out of nowhere? at that point i didn't know practically anything about the sims except that it was some video game and the whiplash of Logan going AYO and the rest killed me. then when Roman whipped out that dialogue in Spanish??? my life was completed. i've never felt more happy than i did in that moment gosh. just the hilarity of Roman's drama, the shock of them speaking Spanish suddenly like that, the absolute JOY of seeing a creator i like speak (may i say) perfect Spanish, the other characters' faces after that.. never been happier.
also the conclusion was so cute. Virgil solving the whole problem without wanting to. i loved it.
#4 Am I Original
i think this video speaks for itself. it was fun to watch them all do the ideas Roman had, plus Logan and Virgil nodding at each other, (i love them so much), plus the angst at the end of Roman's perfectionism, plus Roman's just perfect name. this video has it all.
i think Thomas posted it kind of late at night and i watched it at 7am in the classroom as i waited for my classmates to arrive and the class to start. (i usually was like 40 minutes early to school due to mom’s work). i had to contain my laughter and it wasn’t easy.
#3 Losing My Motivation
i started loving this video after a while, when Logan passed Virgil in the position for my favorite side. but once he did this episode was beautiful. it's so funny and i love Logan and Patton's dynamic so much. and the video also so damn relatable in general. i felt so seen with it because they named all the problems i have when procrastinating, down to Patton's vague explanation of his feelings, it's exactly how i feel every time i want to do stuff. and the plot twist! i can hear the dramatic sound effect and see how they all turn to Logan clearly in my head, and it always makes me smile. plus there's so much Logan angst that can be dug up and overanalized. i love to watch it over and over.
#2 Accepting Anxiety
this video was perfect. everything we wanted. we knew it was coming and it delivered perfectly, better than any fanfic done in the waiting time. the week between the parts was agonizing but in a fun way somehow. i remember precisely when i was watching part 2 in my living room. i screamed. and i cried, a lot. i was feeling terrible at that time in my life and Thomas was such a comforting presence and i can't begin to describe how this episode made me feel.
and later it is always fun to rewatch with all their different reactions to being in Virgil's room, the energy of that was on point. Thomas is such a great actor and the characters where just amazingly performed. plus it gave so much to talk adn think about, the idea of the rooms, lots lots of insight into the characters, foreshadowing, so much. it's just perfect i have nothing else to say.
#1 (for purely emotional reasons, ironically) My Negative Thinking
i think Accepting Anxiety is the best episode of the season objectively but my favorite is My Negative Thinking. because i love Virgil and Logan so much and seeing them argue together was and is great. the comfort.. i can't repeat that word enough throughout this post. it's such a soft video while not being overwhelming with Patton and Roman's outbursts. just quiet (mostly) and clear and with perfectly timed humour.
Logan my beloved.. learning spanish... helping me with my own anxiety.. and their debate was so good. and the fact that they were friends i- i can't. Virgil didn't think Logan liked him and Logan told him explicitly that he did and the casual softness of it i cant even. Logan is happy that he tried.. it's just marvelous. Virgil and Logan as best friends will always be my favorite pair, and their dynamic will always be what i strive for in any relationship i might form, with both sides silently comforting each other within their own limits and realistic perspectives. so nice.

so yeah. that's all. thank you if you read all the way up to here. ♡ ♡ ♡

You guys voted to keep this guy, and not gonna lie, this guy was actually really fun to think about. Probably because I’ve been watching a lot of old cartoons, listening to old creepy classical piano and jazz music(mostly because I finally got around to watching the Walten Files), and finding old videos of vaudeville performances and something about that struck a chord with this guy, for some reason.
Also, drawing this felt very nostalgic to me personally, like this design looks like a guy I would’ve drawing back in high school (which is funny considering that this design was made by Elmer Butch Hartman.). I think it’s the hair, a lot of my old designs had that hairstyle.
Also also, I’ve been really trying to come up with a name for their species because I’m getting a bit tired just calling them “the same species as Nightmare” or just Them. So far the best I can come up with is like Reapers(even though there are so many fantasy creatures called Reapers). I also was thinking something like Judges, since they tend to judge people’s actions. I don’t know.
SOME FACTS I MADE FOR THIS GUY:
- They’re unable to speak and so his method of talking is either cartomancy(for that they’ll either assign people/words to certain playing cards he or read someone’s fortune) or gestures. Of course if all else fails, they can easily write it down on paper. Whether or not he’ll won’t say something cryptic and vaguely threatening is based solely on how they feel about you.
- They enjoy performing/scaring people to see how people react to him; their most preferred method is walking behind someone and miming their actions. Their movement and actions are often described as “cartoony” to outsiders. (in other words he’s a walking Toon)
- Their specific power is the ability to create illusions/hallucinations to place people in trances and influence people’s perception of reality. This can also be used to temporarily remove happy memories to feed off of(as the primary emotion they feed on is Nostalgia)
- They work as a direct messenger to one of the powerful higher-ups of their kind, which is why others will often treat them nicely. Some say that their false eye is actually used as a way for the higher-ups to see where they are.
- Their true form is often described as “akin to a sleep paralysis demon“, as they often like to keep their human appearance even when no one is around.

Me again. I’ve heard people say that Butch Hartman (also known as Bitch Hartman) is a bit of a dick. What do you know about this? I know I could just Google but I felt that asking someone might lead to more interesting results. (That sounded way better in my head)
Lol dw I get what you mean. Among other shitty things, Elmer 'Bitch' Fartman has:
gotten very pissy about LGBTQ people enjoying his cartoons
taken people's money with crowdfunding to 'make' two streaming services, Oaxis and The Noog Network, neither of which ever got properly released and he never returned most of the money for
promoted Oaxis to evangelical Christian groups for their investment and talked insensitively about suicide and how he would prevent it by restricting children's media access with this platform (or some such shit)
joked to Tara Strong on his podcast that Timmy Turner's original voice actress, Mary Kay Bergman, committed suicide because she knew Strong was a better VA than her (from what I gather she was super uncomfortable with this and who could blame her?)
charged hundreds of dollars from fans for really low quality art commissions
On a more personal basis he just generally seems to have a massive ego, constantly bigging himself up as 'the creator of your childhood' even though besides Danny Phantom and the early seasons of the Fairly Odd Parents his work is pretty widely reviled. He's also, as I implied, an evangelical Christian and I'm fairly certain he's one of those Tim Allen 'liberals in Hollywood oppress me for being a conservative :'(' types too.
So yeah, that's why people always make fun of him and stuff. I might've forgotten something so if anyone wants to point it out feel free to add it!

Week 2
Parental Bonding (1.02)
We all know Butch Hartman loves banking in the not like other girls trope while also making fun of quirky girl, c'mon you can hate women but don't be so obvious. I don't know why he likes making Sam undesirable and an asshole and make fun of goth/geek culture, like sir this show is about ghosts fighting who do you think is watching this??
Paulina was an asshole and I love her so much exclusively because she was the first latina I've ever seen depicted as the popular pretty girl in a cartoon and as a latina myself it felt kind of good. She's an asshole still, its a love/hate relationship here.
Sam being mad about Paulina bashing Danny was a delight, you go girl, go defend your friend.
Lancer was a lot ruder than I remembered, the fanfics completely changed my image of him.
Subtlety is dead and it's ghost haunts this show, SamxDanny has been a ship since day 2 huh, I mean good for him I guess but she deserves better, season 1 Danny is so selfish it's infuriating.
I have noticed that Valerie is taller than Tucker, Tall Girl Supremacy baby!
6/10 spooks (-2 for Danny but + 1 for cute Sam)
Favourite Quote
Sam: Ha ha! Very funny. Just remember: you can't judge a book by its cover.
Tucker: Well, there's only one way to find out. Go on, Danny. Go to that library and check out that book!

I have a feeling you were into shows like My Life As a Teenage Robot and Danny Phantom
Oh, wow! I loved My Life As a Teenage Robot when it aired. I’d watch it every day after school, and I adored the art style. That’s a huge compliment!  Also, weirdly enough, while I only watched Danny Phantom here and there, I did begin drawing cartoon characters by emulating that Butch Hartman cartoon style that was so prevalent with the animated shows that were airing at the time. I know. I feel like I’m confessing to a sin or something by admitting to that. As a little kid, though, it was an easy art style to pick up on and it was kind of my go-to
