Musing about something with a friend :
In this support, Claude and Leonie discuss about self-sufficience :
Rivers full of fish, trees bursting with fruit, mushrooms ready to harvest all over...
It's the kind of place where you can really be self-sufficient. Guess we can thank the goddess for that.
To which Claude replies, with all his wisdom :
Eh, I dunno. I'm more inclined to thank the bountiful earth than the goddess for such things.
The goddess may offer spiritual guidance, but she doesn't fill our bellies, that's for sure.
Then Leonie says :
Not a very noble-sounding thing, to disregard the goddess and honor the land.
Now this support rolls on misconceptions, and it might be an easter!egg, but Rhea’s Halloween alt in FEH answers to some of those questions (tfw we have to rely on FEH because GW put her in a fridge).
About Claude’s answer, it’s hilarious to note that this support comes after the player most likely already finished Dedue’s quest about seeds, and know the greenhouse in Garreg Mach functions with “magic”.
Magic that, in FE16 at least given the circles, comes from Sothis herself. So in a way, Leonie is right, Garreg Mach is self-sufficient (only when it comes to veggies!) because vegetables grow thanks to Sothis’s gifts.
So Claude saying “she doesn’t fill our bellies” is... in this specific situation, completely wrong - Sothis does, through her magic and teachings. Byleth can “infuse seeds with magic” for free in the greenhouse.
So when Claude says
Nature is a blessing that knows nothing of borders. The goddess is the goddess, and the earth is the earth. They should both be revered for what they are.
After saying the Goddess is only here for spiritual support, he’s dead wrong - both nature and the Goddess are to thank for Garreg Mach’s limitless supply of food.
As for Leonie being worried about disregarding the Goddess, a certain someone in a certain game says :
The people of Askr may not worship the goddess, but they give thanks for nature's bounty all the same. Whether by the goddess's grace or our own hands, the harvest we reap ensures our continued prosperity. It pleases me to see that this truth is alive and well even outside of Fódlan. We must continue to guide others so that the smiles brought by this bounty never disappear. Today was a valuable reminder of gratitude and joy that I shall treasure for many years to come.
aka Rhea doesn’t give a fuck whether people thank the goddess or the land or whatever for the harvest, so Leonie’s reservations were unfounded to begin with!

Book 2 au: sparring sessions and short hair katara
They like to have sparring sessions in order to keep their bending skills sharp. They allow themselves to go all out and not hold back at all cause they know if anyone got hurt, Katara could just heal them
But anyways, wouldn't it be kinda funny if Zuko accidentally burned Katara's hair tho? Aofkqldkkajfjd
The "I think we can save the hairloops" line is from @linnoya-writes thank you for that!! :>>

the “pressure is kind of my thing” quote from riz being a reply to his mother as he tries to keep a smile on his face as his mom explains their bleak financial situation and how a perfect gpa still probably won’t be enough to get into higher education in the face of a world in which knowledge is paywalled is another type of heartbreaking

for real! (from kadji amin)
[Image description: Screenshot of text:
What I've realized is that I believe that the matter of gender is practical and relational. It's not about who you are inside, it's more about how you would feel most comfortable in the world. It's not 'Who are you?' but 'How do you want to live?'
Had that been the discourse when I was coming up, I would have breathed a sigh of relief. I don't have to figure out who I am on the inside, I just have to figure out how I want to live.

C'MON TO THE THEATER!
I love these guys so much. forget NRC, I want to attend their terrible disaster school for disaster children that might actually be plastered on top of the smoking remains of an actively sinking ship. I may or may not actually learn anything, but I will have the time of my life.

something. about. the horror of being sent on an impossible (death) quest and obligations and hospitality politics. the trauma of not having a home, and then the trauma of being in a house that becomes actively hostile to you, one that would swallow you whole and spit out your bones if you step out of line. all of this is conditional, your existence continues to be something men want gone.
it's about going back as far as I can with the perseus narrative because there's always a version of a myth that exists behind the one that survives. the missing pieces are clearly defined, but the oldest recorded version of it isn't there! and there's probably something older before that!! but it's doomed to forever be an unfilled space, clearly defined by an outline of something that was there and continues to be there in it's absence.
and love. it's also about love. even when you had nothing, you had love.
on the opposite side of the spectrum, this is Not About Ovid Or Roman-Renaissance Reception, Depictions And Discourses On The Perseus Narrative.
edit: to add to the above, while it's not about Ovid, because I'm specifically trying to peel things back to the oldest version of this story, Ovid is fine. alterations on the Perseus myth that give more attention Medusa predate Ovid by several centuries. this comic is also not about those, either! there are many versions of this story from the ancient world. there is not one singular True or Better version, they're all saying something.
