Log 225

FTL: Alright. I have been planning my next project over the course of the last cycle. I've also been replying to everything that I've neglected to during the crisis. I do feel that perhaps I've missed some important events, but I didn't know about any such events before I partially repaired my communication systems, it's not much of a change.

FTL: As for my next project, I plan to attempt to create a beneficial Rot that will take over the role of the micro-organisms that repair the outer structures of Iterators - henceforth I will be calling them SRMOs, short for Structural Repairment Micro-Organisms. Calling them 'micro-organisms' is too vague, and the files I have on them don't give them any one specific name. Even if they did, I have no reason to utilise that name. SRMO it is.

FTL: Metal Rot is a now-uncommon byproduct of making a mistake when experimenting upon the genetics of an SRMO. The process of their creation is the same as any other Rot, and Metal Rot often ends up being an Expanding Rot. The reason that it becomes its own category (though Metal Rots can still fit into any of the sub-groups of general Rot) is due to its nature of being microscopic in starting stages, and therefore incredibly difficult to detect, as well as the fact that it can only consume the metal that the SRMO it was created from was capable of repairing.

FTL: SRMOs are actually very interesting themselves. From what I understand, they consume the metal, divide it into half, use up a bit as a source for energy, and then replace the metal that they previously consumed with double the coverage of the material that was previously there. Of course, this does mean that every single time this process happens, the metal gets thinner. SRMOs were never meant to be the primary repair mechanism, they were always just a backup for the meantime between maintenances. But with the Ancients now gone, they have indeed become the primary outer repair system for any Iterator that has them.

FTL: They were never sustainable. Just another example of the Ancients' lack of foresight. Truly, it astounds me every single time that I find a lapse of judgement like this on their part. I hold no true ill will towards Ancients, truth to be told, I hold no stance on them at all. I just do not understand how it's even possible to mess up so many times, and never do anything about it, simply leaving forever.

FTL: My project that I will now be embarking upon consists of my attempting to create a Metal Rot that has the exact same functions as an SRMO, except more efficient and sustainable. And, of course, not fatal or even detrimental at all to the structure that it is repairing. Sounds absurd, a beneficial Rot, does it not?

FTL: If such a modified Metal Rot is allowed to spread over the surface of an Iterator, then it could fulfill the same purpose as an SRMO while being, as previously mentioned, more efficient and sustainable. Efficient due to its nature of already being everywhere as well as being much quicker at the task, capable of redistributing resources across the surface instead of keeping faults concentrated in one place. That plays into the sustainability, which is also comprised of the fact that it'd ideally be able to gather nutrients from sources other than what it is repairing. Potentially the air? Unlikely that it'd ever be capable of gathering nutrients from biotic things, due to the fact that it is a Rot made from a creature that does not consume living things.

FTL: Most Rots are capable of consuming both biotic and abiotic materials, though most tend to stick to organisms as those contain more energy that it can utilise for itself. A Rot that can only consume one of the two would be rather interesting. Such a thing wouldn't typically happen, as it is extremely detrimental to it, especially so on the side of not being able to absorb biotics.

FTL: Of course, this solution too is unsustainable. While it would make structures last for longer than SRMOs would, the base mechanic of redistributing ever-thinning resources remains. But that is merely yet another fault of how Iterators were created in the first place; we are unsustainable in nature.

FTL: If I do have what I perceive as success in creating such a Rot, then I only have one option. That being to, of course, test it on myself. I do not know what I will do with it if it is successful, as I am doing this out of sheer curiousity, as is part of the motivation for many things I do. If my suspicions about me being successful are proven wrong upon my testing of the results, well. Same rules apply as always.

FTL: If I fail and succumb, it merely my fault, and those are the consequences that I must face.

FTL: It's nice to have a proper project once more. Engineering Rot will be an interesting endeavour.

genuine question, how do you find time to play with a newborn? im currently a few days short of being 6 months pregnant and i’ve been sitting here wondering how the hell am i gonna find time to ever play the sims? seeing u still post gives me hella hope ill find the time to still enjoy sims while being an attentive mommy 😭❤️

the early days are the easiest in terms of having time during the day, at least thats been my experience with 2 kids! right now my oldest is 3 and she has a lot of independent play and my youngest sleeps most the day so whenever those things line up is when i'm able to play (or do any of the chores i need to get done during the day) OR i just wait until bed time! if you're not exhausted it's the easiest way to go about it, bedtime for us is 7:30 and i usually stay up until 10 and its a decent amount of time to be able to play and line up posts! BASICALLY lol don't worry! newborns sleep a ton, and even when they get older they nap a ton and bedtimes for littles you usually want to be a bit earlier!

today i had a big work event which we found out yesterday would mean no lunch break... a few min to grab a snack around 11 is all there was and even that was barely there bc there was so much to do. i made sure to eat some bread in the morning but still was sooo hungry by 3 which is when they said we’d have our break... but it ended up being 3:15... and then effectively 3:30 bc of the packing/cleaning up time ;_; i had a bit of rice then. a few of my coworkers went out but the rest of us lit just passed out in a classroom until 4 buhahaha.

anyway i was so exhausted and hungry so for dinner i went to saizeriya and planned to order like 2000 yen worth of food. saizeriya is hella cheap which is why i like it so this means i was darn hungry haha. i got my fav peas with egg and pecorino (also good with asparagus but i didnt see it on the menu this time) and a small margherita pizza. also ordered two lamb kebabs but they never appeared. wasnt charged for them though and in the end decided i was pretty full after the peas and pizza and besides i wanted french toast for dessert. so i guess my eyes were bigger than my stomach.

... it’s also not impossible that the wait staff purposely “forgot” the lamb kebabs because they were like “why is one woman ordering this much food no way she can eat it” lol. I once got sick at an okonomiyaki restaurant and the waitress looked me in the eye and said “perhaps you ate too much?” lmao.

also on the menu is a glass of wine for 100yen. are you KIDDING. it is probably not good wine, but i can’t tell lmao. I love red wine and have no discernment about quality so 100yen for a glass of red wine couldn’t have been more perfect for me.

however i am now tipsy. yup from ONE measly glass of wine. im sure its in combo with how tired i am but yeah i was meandering a little on the way home xP also it has been probably a full year since i last had wine, and before that possibly even longer. yeah i do love it, but i dont drink alone, this was very rare for me and pretty much completely bc i wanted to try 100yen wine lol. and when i go out to drink with friends i usually get a cocktail (cassis orange or fuzzy navel). i drink wine mostly if there are no cocktails on offer or if i’m staying in with someone bc wine is more likely to be on hand than a cocktail. and i do prefer wine with pasta. but because of the pandemic and all i just havent gone out much in the past few years so not much wine drinking has happened.

so i never had much tolerance to begin with and now even that little ledge is toast apparently bahahaha

im just a little buzzed tho, it’ll probably mean i fall asleep soon, but that’s good. because i am hella tired. what a day what a week what a year. however. upside: i am on vacation now. yaaaaaay. gonna SLEEP ALL MONTH LONG

Oh I just answered this but you know what I'm gonna answer it again. Here is another poem I feel particularly proud of tonight.

29. a favourite easy recipe: 5 ingredients or less, or takes less than 30 min to make

Okay if a recipe takes 30 minutes to make, that is NOT easy in my book hahaha but hmmm I'll give you my mac and cheese recipe that I can make in my sleep. Idk if its easy, but its easy for me at this point.

1/3 cup butter, melt in a pan. When is it justtt melted, add 1/4 cup flour and WHISK nonstop until it is a light brown almost gold-ish color. Add 2 cups milk and keep whisking. more whisking. don't stop whisking. It'll eventually get nice and thick so that it stands still a bit, maybe has a bit of drag to it if that makes sense. you could touch it and it would have an indent for a minute. then a good amount of salt and some black pepper (I'm sorry I don't know how much, I just know people are always like how much salt am I putting in this August? and I go "more." but its just like with a salt shaker you know? the salt is arguably the most important part, if it doesn't turn out cheesy enough its cause of the salt. add more.) THEN add in 2 cups cheese (cheddar, or whatever you like, a mix maybe even. just not mozzarella or soft cheese ofc). add it slow so it melts a little at a time. Finally just put in like a pound? a box? idk im american. worth of cooked pasta. my favorite is cavatelli but elbows or ruffles work as well. ANDDDD that's it you're done unless you wanna make it fancy and mix shit in in which case I have suggestions, hit me up lol.

cans all the way!!! super cold soda cans have the best carbonation... soda bottles go next! i find once you've poured the soda into any sort of cup a lot of the carbonation goes away with it and i dont like that >:(

10. game you were best at in p.e.?

bold of you to assume my dyspraxic ass was good at anything during pe. i have very little upper body strength (even after years of gymnastics conditioning trying to build it up), and i couldn't catch or throw a ball until i was like 15 bc my shoulders like to dislocate whenever i use them djnnfnn. also didnt realize until i was an adult that my eyes have totally different prescriptions so my depth perception was garbage the first 20 years of my life which is probably why my left eye is lazy now 😭

but once high school hit and i was able to do gymnastics for all my pe credits thru my homeschool program i did great! lmao

15. favorite book you read as a school assignment?

ok i know ayn rand is disgusting but anthem kind of changed my life when i first read it. id never seen a writing style like that before and i honestly think it influenced my own writing style a lot!!!!

on my laptop! i cant handwrite anymore after my arm injury and writing was already pretty hard before that bc my fine motor skills.... are not so good. learning to type opened up a whole new world for me, im a pro at it now!

25. first song you remember hearing?

is it super weird if i say "a cruel angel's thesis", the neon genesis evangelion theme song? one of my first memories is hearing that song and watching that anime. i was probably like three? Thats Not For Children Mom. but i mean. i guess i turned out ok (lmao) so its FINE!

30. places that you find sacred?

empty beaches. especially when its a little cold out. the ocean seems to stretch endlessly and you can feel the sand between your toes and everything is so quiet and loud at the same time. and then the sun goes down and the tide rises and you're just a little convinced its gonna swallow you right up. you feel so small.

the louisiana bayou at night. it feels like you shouldn't be there. there are spirits roaming the streets. one day when i being babysat at my mom's friend's house i looked out the window and saw a pair of glowing red eyes. i'm not sure if anyone believed me.

35. average time you fall asleep?

that is a LOADED question lol! my sleeping schedule is so weird bc im just now being treated for bipolar after years of being in denial about it and i have a delayed sleep phase + severe sleep apnea. so uhhh. really depends. but when i just follow what my body wants and don't worry about responsibilities i usually pass out around 3/4 am and wake up around 3-5 pm.

40. weirdest thing to ever happen at your school?

drugs m, pregnancy loss m

when i was 12 i nearly skipped another grade and went straight to high school instead of grade 8. i would have stuck with it too, but i was being bullied really heavily at my school (partially bc i was considered a prodigy i guess). it was a small alternative school that encouraged weed smoking. i once found a bud on a desk and everyone tried to act like i wouldnt know what it was even though my mom grew weed medically when i was growing up and supplied like. the entire midwest or whatever. but i went along with it because i didn't want to put a target on us. *shrugs* middle school was hard for me lol. i eventually left the school because the principal mentioned my mom's recent miscarriage in front of everyone. between that and the bullying i just couldn't deal anymore i guess.

the school ended up being closed a year later because of shady stuff. my mom and i kinda saw it as karma i guess

sorry! that story is kind of a bummer!

45. which genre: sci-fi, fantasy or superhero?

ohhhh i think... i think i love science fiction and fantasy equally! especially stuff that weaves the two together, so like science fiction with fantasy elements or fantasy with science fiction explanations! superhero stuff is great too ofc!

a facet of my ehlers danlos syndrome is that i scar easily, and that the scarring is often abnormal and extensive. pretty much every open wound i have ever had has left a scar on me.

the biggest ones i can list: (tw for abuse mentioned, an allusion to self harm (im ok now))

the discoloration on my right foot from stepping into a pot of boiling water when i was an infant

the gouge on my knee when i fell on it walking when i was 4

the eye shaped scar i have on my right hand from touching a lightbulb when i was 8 (idk what i expected lol)

the place where my bone chipped when i fell out of a tree house when i was 11/12

another gouge on the same knee from falling between the tumble track and the floor when i was 13

the four inch long and inch 1/2 wide flat keloid on my left arm that i have from the surgery to repair my broken arm from where they inserted a titanium plate and screws when i was 15 and the inch long keloid i have from where they tried to insert a rod instead (bone was too misshapen, they did surgery too late)

various scars that i dont wanna say where they came from, but im extremely mentally ill so u can probably guess

the keloid i have on my right arm from my mom biting me when i was 17

another burn mark on my right arm from dropping a glass jar of queso hot from the microwave (again, idk what i expected -_-)

left handed! but i can use my right for most thinks since my left never fully regained function. i still hold a needle and write with my left hand but everything else i can now do with my right!

i mean. i must've been six? i remember my mom kept all my baby teeth in a little unicorn resin jar. i wonder if she still has it 🤔

of course I had a two and a half week vacation in march, right when moominvalley season release was allegedly gonna happen... and it never did...

then on the VERY LAST DAY of my break, "hey guys! guess what show releases tomorrow!" like WHAT x'D

it's april 1st and the season's out and it was my first day back at wooooork aaaaaahhh x'D

being an adult sucks hahahahaha

got my new class list and i do indeed have the student i was dreading... fingers crossed there but the rest of the group is already so cute and i cant wait to teach them. who knows, maybe the difficult kid will have matured a lot over the last month...

also met new coworker who is cool. and the atmosphere was a lot lighter than it usually is on first term days. we even got new computers which i am suuuuper excited about, the old ones were so. crappy. just the worst computers you can imagine. took ten min just to turn on and another ten to load a single webpage. if you had a fifteen minute break you were screwed. even if you had thirty min you could accomplish next to nothing. it was such a pain because we generally only get breaks (by which I mean prep time) in 15 or 30 min blocks and we have an INORDINATE amount of paperwork. my dude we teach pre-k! why this endless slog through paperwork xD the struggle is real

but now we got shiny new computers and it comes as a total shock! but a pleasant one. less pleasant was the company trying to stick me with our electric piano. we have one but it broke because of being wheeled around to different classrooms, and apparently the only solution anyone can come up with is "keep it in fizz's classroom instead of in the hall." one: how on EARTH does that stop it getting broken since it will still need to be wheeled around from room to room?? and two: where in my teeny tiny classroom do you want me to put a whole ass piano with wires and breakable bits?? first of all every corner of our room is being used, we already do not have enough storage space or enough space for the number of 1-3 year old kids which is upwards of 30. my room stores all the nap cots for two classes. then even if we figure somethign out, there is no way the kids are not going to accidentally break that piano no matter how hard we try to steer them away. i mean even if the kids are good, the pianos gonna get paint on it from crafts. i swear that it will even if we cover it. i am always finding paint and stickers in the most random of places. and last but not least, my classroom is also a nap room (hence the cots). we aren't allowed to even have water bottles on the shelves in case there's an earthquake and the things on shelves fall and hit the sleeping kids. but you want us to put a piano in there? a piano is less dangerous in an earthquake than a water bottle????

lit i told my coteachers "i will fight this." lol i was boiling over. i am not having that piano in my room. if there is no place to put it where it won't break, then either the company needs to pay for repairs when they happen (which so far is not even once a year, yet they actually rejected the maintenance application the first time we sent it -__-), or they need to not have a piano at all. "but the music teacher needs it" yes im sure she does but thats got nothing to do with me! i didnt decide my 2s need to take music lessons! thats the companies choice! that they knowingly made for their busiest school with the largest class size and teeny tiny rooms with absolutely no storage space at all! the company knows all that and yet they're just like "You guys figure it out." Well ok, im figuring it out. the piano can stay where it was last year and get moved around like usual. there is zero benefit to putting it in my room, it only makes HO feel better about spending money on the maintenance (for now - just wait till next time it breaks 9_9). on top of that it would adversely affect my class which is the number one thing i care about here. im fortunate in that our team leader agreed with me and actually went to bat over this even harder than i did. still not sure whats gonna happen but i do intend to block that piano coming in my room unless someone comes up with a reeeeally good idea for how we're gonna fit it in tetris-style without causing problems.
