Finally finished the beautiful Midnight Hare gloves by HattieKerrs on Ravelry! These are by far the most beautiful thing I’ve ever knit, they look like something out of a Jan Brett picture book. They’re going to my mom for Christmas, who will give them the love they deserve.
The brown yarn comes from an alpaca farm in my area as well! Can’t recommend the pattern enough, these were a joy to knit!

Jan Brett has written and illustrated three different retellings of Goldilocks and the Three Bears over the course of her long career.
First she wrote a traditional retelling back in 1987.
Then in 2007, she wrote The Three Snow Bears, with an Inuit girl named Aloo-ki taking the place of Goldilocks.
Then in 2017, she wrote The Mermaid, an undersea retelling with a Japanese mermaid child named Kiniro in the Goldilocks role and three octopuses in place of the bears.
Maybe I should try a similar experiment: pick a favorite fairy tale, and over time try to write several different variants on it as children's books, seeing just how different I can make them from each other without losing the story's essence!

Book Time With Anne-Louise reads one of my favorite Halloween books, Scary, Scary Halloween by Eve Bunting, with illustrations by Jan Brett. I borrowed this from the school library countless times for my mother to read to me. Those green eyes are a cherished childhood memory.

Jan Brett: Running

“Ideas usually come after I’ve run 10 miles. I like to ask myself a question and let my unconscious answer it.”

For this assignment, we needed to create our own take on a fable or fairy tale. I chose to adapt The Bird, the Mouse, and the Sausage, as relayed by the Brothers Grimm. I don't like the original story; this version is one where it ends a little better for everyone involved.
I took compositional inspiration from illustrator Jan Brett.

Spent the evening curled up on the sofa with my kid watching the grasslands episode of planet earth II. After, he wordlessly got up and went to his room to get the picture book Cozy by Jan Brett for me to read before he went to bed. I don't know what my point is but its making me tear up.
