Like All My Friends || Xiao x Female!Reader
Summary: You're at a college party, watching all your friends fall in love while you are on the 'forever alone' stage, only for a certain someone to change that.
Pairings: Xiao x Female!Reader, mentions of past Dainsleif x Reader
Warnings: Mentions of alcohol, Xiao is kinda OOC.
Words: 1,184
A/N: Decided to try to do those lyric one-shots. This one is based on "Like all my friends" by Francis Karel. Lyrics are written in italics. This is also a college au one-shot! Also not my proudest work to be honest.
Just as usual, this can contain grammar mistakes and it isn't beta read! Enjoy reading!
Enjoyed my work and want to help me to boost it? Reblog my work, leave a comment, or like! Reblogs are very appreciated!

You sat on the couch beside your friends, music was booming through the house you were at. Some friend of one of your friends had organized a party and your friend - Lumine - had begged you to come along. And so you did. But now you also regretted it.
While it was fun at first, seeing Ayaka, Thoma, Childe, Kaeya, and the others too, it didn't help that Ayaka and Thoma had only attention for one another, Childe flirting with Lumine somewhere in the corner of the room, Kaeya talking with a few girls as he had his arm swayed around one of them.
You tried to have fun, played a round of beer pong with some others, and danced a bit with Venti, but he was mainly focused on all the alcohol he had access to. And you usually could care less about any of this but seeing everyone mingle with someone did sting your heart. Was it because you just missed being in a relationship after Dain and you separated ways when he moved? The break-up was mutual and wasn't anything dramatic, and it had been almost 2 years now. You and Dain often called to just catch up but seeing everyone with someone did make you miss the time you were dating someone.
It was stupid and pathetic, but could you help it when all your friends were falling in love with someone while you just kept crushing hard on your roommate, whom you couldn't seem to have a grasp on when it came to his feelings. You could barely read him as Xiao had always been a reserved and a bit distant person, so you could hardly tell what he was feeling. If he even shared the same feelings.
You and Xiao got along very well, sure he could be annoying but he was nice and a good roommate. He never bothered you - unless he had a reason for it - or forced you to go and be social. He was nice and he was everything you looked for in a roommate and in a boy in general. But you were too afraid to admit your feelings for him, afraid to ruin whatever type of relationship the two of you had.
You pushed yourself off the couch you had been sitting on as you headed towards the kitchen, pushing yourself through dancing bodies that blocked your path. For a moment you debated whether you should join in on another beer pong round but decided to let that idea pass. You entered the kitchen, seeing Venti filling his cup with alcohol. You rolled your eyes before doing the same as a sigh rolled off your lips. Everybody seemed to be having fun while all you could do was pathetically sulk over how you were forever single while all your friends were getting someone. You just wanted to fall in love like all your friends as well.
After filling your red cup, you moved outside. You sucked in a deep breath, fresh air filling your lungs as you walked to a small bench that stood in the back of the garden. The garden was less crowded, people mainly escaping the busy atmosphere to either talk to someone or smoke a cigarette or something else. A few people were swimming but the place you had chosen out was empty, no people around and the music sounded less hard there.
You dropped down on the bench, taking a couple sips from your beer as you just looked around. "What's a pretty lady like you doing here all by yourself?" A voice mocked before the person dropped down beside you as you scoffed. "What's an introvert doing here all by yourself?" You retorted, copying his mocking tone as the black-haired boy shrugged his shoulders. "Does it matter?" You answered his former question. "Not really." He retorted in his usual cold tone.
"I'm waiting on a pretty boy to come up to me, ask me out on a date for the next day, and fall in love with him. But I guess I somehow scare boys off." You scoffed, you weren't sure if it was you talking or your intoxicating brain. Maybe the alcohol just boosted your mood. "I wouldn't mind walking up to a pretty girl like you and talking to her if she wasn't sitting in a dark corner on a bench," Xiao responded to your words. "And you just turned something that sounded so sweet into something damn creepy." You scolded him as he let out a low chuckle.
"Am I pathetic for wanting the things my friends have?" You wondered out loud as Xiao glanced at you. "I don't mind my empty bed, but sometimes I get lonely. I want someone to show me how to fix a fight, kiss goodnight, hold me tight." You sighed. "I want to fall in love like all my friends." You scoffed at yourself the moment you finished talking, taking a few more sips from your beer.
You glanced at Xiao, pulling your brows up. "You are uncharacteristically quiet. Shouldn't you give me an annoying or rude response now?" You asked him, searching his face for an answer when he stayed silent.
Xiao sucked in a deep breath, heart rate picking up as he turned his ember eyes on you. "I don't know much about those things, I'm not good at fixing fights but-" He stopped for a moment, wiping his now sweaty hands off on his pants. "But I don't mind being that someone." He pushed out the last words in a shaky breath, happy it was dark enough to hide the red color that was taking over his face. "Because, I don't want to fall in love like all my friends, I want to fall in love with you." He admitted his feelings, holding his breath the moment the last word rolled past his tongue.
You stayed quiet for a moment, letting his words sink into your brain. Letting his confession replay in your brain. "Now you are the one that is uncharacteristically quiet." Xiao broke the silence with a nervous chuckle. "You're ruining a romantic moment." You finally spoke, playfully nudging his shoulder. "There's nothing romantic about this." He huffed.
"I'd like to." You finally answered his confession. "Having you be that someone. Be my someone." You confessed on your turn, eyes locking with his. He slowly leaned in as you did the same, soon feeling his soft lips connecting with yours as your eyes fluttered shut. Hoping this all wasn't just a dream but a reality. You slowly pulled away as he slightly chased your lips before resting his forehead against yours. "Such a bonus to know you can kiss." You muttered. "You're ruining a romantic moment." He repeated your former words. "There's nothing romantic about this." You copied his words as he let out a soft chuckle.
"Please hold me tight tonight, so I know this is real." You almost whispered. "I'll never let you go, not after all of this." He promised before you connected your lips with his for another kiss.

Things get tense in the antique shop...
“There is only one problem, she is no longer here.  And not just here as in New Orleans, she is no longer of this Earth.” Armaund stated in a flat affect.
Karlen felt his entire world implode.
“No…no, it can’t be!”  Karlen stood and his face became hard, his back straightening, and his posture aggressive.  The men were lying to him, he knew it.  His eyes began to shift to a golden whiskey color as his intense stare alternated between Armaund and Jean Pierre.  “I know she said she was going somewhere she wasn’t sure I’d be able to find her, but you’re lying.  She is not dead.  I will NOT,” his hand slammed into the table open palm, causing both the other men to flinch back in shock at the resounding boom that echoed off the lathe and plaster walls, “believe that she is dead.  WILL. NOT.  Now, tell me where she is, or I will find out on my own.” By the time that he finished, his voice was a growl, and there was a muscle ticking on his jaw.
Armaund looked up at Jean Pierre, this was not the reaction they had quite anticipated.  After having talked with Gail before she left and even Anna, devastation was more in line with what had been expected.  But, it seemed the prince did know Gail, and was determined to find her.  It was time for their slight misdirection to end.
“My husband does not lie,” Jean Pierre said plainly.  “He did not say she was dead.  He said she was no longer of the Earth.  Which she is not.”  His head tilted to the side, with a slight inclination.  “She is safe, and she is alive.  You understand that those of us who have been protecting her could not allow just anyone to learn of her location. She does not remember your name, but Your Majesty, I knew from our first meeting who you were.” A wry smile formed on the immortal male’s face.
“Then stop fucking around and tell me where she is, or take me there.  The longer you delay, the shorter my patience for this bullshit gets.”  Karlen was ready to call upon his brother’s soldiers if need be to force the two in front of him to tell him where she was.  He would do it.  He would search to the end of creation, never had he been this close in three centuries.
“There is one problem, sire.” Armaund swallowed.  “You will have to set aside your title and all benefits from it to go where she is. There is another you will have to bow to, and she does not take kindly to be challenged.  Pull that explosive reaction there and you will be put on your ass, if you’re lucky.  If not, Kellen will be negotiating for your resurrection.”  He took a deep breath, how did Abriella deal daily with demons and not obliterate them.  They were such babies.
“Excuse me?”
“Sit.” Jean Pierre now sounded like the one in charge.  He too was not going to tolerate more outbursts.  Once Karlen had, he too again took a seat. “She is not within the human realm, and where she is has royalty that does not tolerate such behavior and will not care who your brother is if you act like that.”
“Where?”
“Imperium.” Armaund responded this time and loved watching the color drain from the demon’s face.  Oh, lovely, he’d heard of it and the spectacular woman who ruled it.  “Any more questions?” There was a bit of a smirk on the immortal’s face now.
“Why is she there?  You said she’s safe?”  Karel was now completely confused.  What in the nine hells was Sophia doing in IMPERIUM of all realms.  The one where his brother held now sway, if not the exact opposite.  What would happen when the found out who she was to him?
“She is a dear friend of the Queen, who is going to have one of her other friends try and help her find you.  Imagine that.  Your Sophia is also very dear to the two of us and one of our friends who is in Imperium with her.  She is quite safe.  As long as you relinquish title and standing for the time you are in Imperium, there will be no issue.”  Had Karlen been from any other realm, but Uffern, it would be different.  However, the realms had been at war in the past and Armaund knew that if Karlen tried to walk in there as a Crowne Prince, that it would not go well and might end up with him in the stockade.  All that would do was cause Gail more upset.
“I would die for her, my title and standing in any court mean nothing if she is that close and I cannot reach her.  What do I need to do in order to be seen by the Queen and King?  I will do it now.” Karlen didn’t even hesitate.  His crown had never done anything for him in Uffern but make his life a pain in the ass dealing with Korben and Persephone.  Kellen and Calliope were the only two sane ones.
Jean Pierre was impressed, he had expected Karlen to try to bargain, but this was almost too easy.  He wasn’t sure he believed it, but he knew Abriella would see through any deception in a second.  “Wait here.  I will go talk to Abriella.  Armaund, please see to our guests needs while I am gone.”  His husband nodded to him.  He knew he would, but he wanted Karlen wondering what was going on.
In an instant Jean Pierre was in the reception area of the Palace in Imperium.  He waited, knowing a guard would soon appear to see who arrived and what they wanted.  He was not disappointed when Thenasus wandered in, full gear, looking surprised to see the immortal Grigori standing there.  “Is something wrong on Earth?”  The demonic nephilim’s eyes narrowed in question.
“Tell Abriella that Gail’s Prince has arrived in New Orleans and is currently having coffee with Armaund and I.” Watching Thenasus’ eyes widen almost had Jean Pierre chuckling.  “If she could please come most expeditiously, we would appreciate it.  He is…touchy…and a bit impatient to see his redhead.”  Jean Pierre smiled.

Guillermo Del Torro look back :Hellboy
So Guillermo Del Torro is one of the most celebrated directors we have .With the release of his Pinocchio coming soon ,I wanted to look back on some of his films ,and I decided to start with my intro to his work ,a lil comic book movie called Hellboy
Tumblr media
This 2004 film we follow a demon named Hellboy (Ron Perlman ) who works for a agency to deal with supernatural beasties , when Gregori Rasputin(Karel Roden ) returns from oblivion to use Hellboy for nefarious purposes
SO in the early 2000's we were at the start of the comic book movie boom that for better or worse is still going on to this day ,and Hellboy is actually one of the best ones or has aged the best ,at least to me .Its also one of my favorite Del Torro films
The aesthetics to the film ar e gorgeus from the set design to a wonderfully melanchooly color pallate of blue and yellow .There are some great side character from Jeffrey Tambor as boorish beauracrat ,Doug Jones as brainy fish man Abe Sapien (With a solid uncredited vocal performance by David Hyde Pierce ) ,Selma Blair as a pyrokinetic love interest Liz and especially John Hurt as Hellboys father gives both an intelligence and warmth .We also get some great cretures my favorites being the nearly unkillable Sammuell and the creepy mask wearing Nazi assassin Kroenan who makes for a very effective secondary bad guy .Needless to say the film is directed beautifully ,with Del Torro bringing a sadness, and his eye for beauty in the monstrus to the genre as well as his love for fantasy and horror while still making it a fun action flick .What makes the film work however is Ron Perlman ,playing possibly his most definative character.PErlman has a LOT he has to do and he succeeds at all of them marvelously .He nails the blue collar vibe of the character as well as the humor, the badass qualities, and the vulnerability when it comes to his father and Liz ,all under heavy makeup .This is PErlmans movie
If the film has flaws there are three ,but none are dealbreakers .
1.It feels like a pilot at points ,with the fact the film has to establish a lot though I also attribute that to problem 2
2.Agent Meyers who is our audience surrogate. He's not a bad character,Rupert Evans does a fine job....He just feels like he is there cause the studio wanted a normal human guy ,when the film doesnt need him ,the intro already does a great job introducing us to this world and we dont need a view point character,he just distracts from Hellboy
3.RAsputin is just.....OK villain wise .I dunno why but I never found him that engaging ,the actor Karel Roden is good ,just something bout him just doesnt click
Overall this is one of the best comic book movies in my oppinion,if youlike practical effects/makeup, monsters ,gorgeous visuals and Ron Perlman its worth a watch

Fokker G-1

Fokker G-1
The Fokker G.I was a Dutch heavy twin-engined fighter plane comparable in size and role to the German Messerschmitt Bf 110 and the British Mosquito. Although in production prior to World War II, its combat introduction came at a time when the Netherlands was overrun. The few G.1s that were mustered into service were able to score some victories, but ultimately the aircraft was withdrawn from operations, and the remainder of the production run was taken over by the Luftwaffe as trainers.
The G.I, given the nickname le Faucheur ("reaper" in French), was designed as a private venture in 1936 by Fokker chief engineer Dr. Schatzki. Intended for the role of jachtkruiser, "heavy" fighter or air cruiser, able to gain air superiority over the battlefield as well as being a bomber destroyer, the G.1 would fulfill a role seen as important at the time, by advocates of Giulio Douhet's theories on air power. The Fokker G.I utilized a twin-engined, twin-boom layout that featured a central nacelle housing two or three crew members (a pilot, radio operator/navigator/rear gunner or a bombardier) as well as a formidable armament of twin 23 mm (.91 in) Madsen cannon and a pair of 7.9 mm (.31 in) machine guns (later eight machine guns) in the nose and one in a rear turret.
Besides its main mission, the G.1 could be configured for ground attack and light bombing missions (it could carry a bomb load of one 400 kg/882 lb bomb or combinations of two 200 kg/441 lb or 10 26 kg/57 lb bombs).
The design and construction of the prototype (registered as X-2) was completed in just seven months. At its introduction at the Paris Air Show in November 1936, even before its first flight, the G.I was a sensation, appearing in a purple and yellow finish (evocative of the Spanish Republican colors, thought to be Fokker's first export customer
Like all Fokker aircraft of the period, the G.I was of mixed construction; the front of the central pod and the tail booms were built around a welded frame, covered with aluminium plating. The back of the central pod, however, as well as the wings, had a wooden frame, covered with triplex, a technique also used in Fokker's successful passenger aircraft at that time.
The G.I prototype, powered by 485 kW (650 hp) Hispano-Suiza 14AB-02/03 engines, had its first flight at Welschap Airfield, near Eindhoven on 16 March 1937 with Karel Toman-Mares at the controls. Later, Emil Meinecke took over much of the test flights. The maiden flight went well, but a subsequent test flight in September 1937 ended with a supercharger explosion that nearly caused the loss of the prototype. The accident prompted a replacement of the Hispano-Suiza engines with 559 kW (750 hp) Pratt & Whitney SB4-G Twin Wasp Junior engines.

I saw this one and thank you for this, God.
I love you, but I’m not waiting for you.
Dear You,
Our conversation started with "praying for you," and I still do. We became acquainted and turned out to be close friends. I still remember the night you had the courage to tell me that you see me as an ideal girl; that even before we became friends, you had been observing me from afar, and I can't believe I'm writing these annoying & silly thoughts right now.
From telling you simple greetings like “huy mata na oy" as my way of saying "Good morning" and "Almost 11 na, katog na" as my way of saying “Good night” to random things like what I’m doing, where I’m going, what's bothering me and who I’m with, all the way down to my deepest emotions, fears, and desires, I have devolved into just calling your name through chats and asking you "how have you been?" and mostly other words that end with “Good bye.”
I used to want to tell you everything. We used to laugh at the little things.
There are so many things I want to tell you. From the most random things like I have so many struggles because of what you said that night and I cried more while being alone overcoming it, to the most blissful things like I’m working to become a better daughter, sister, disciple, servant, and friend, I want to tell you everything.
There are so many questions I want to ask you. From the most generic questions like "Where are you now?" “Have you eaten?” “What are you doing?” and “How was your day?” down to the most difficult questions like “Are you okay?” “When are you leaving?” "When are you coming back?" and “Do you miss me?” I want to ask you everything.
There are so many things I want you to know. From the most peculiar thoughts like how I remember you whenever I hear someone asking for a thing that can make me remember you, how I dreamt I was holding your hand and chose to let go in the end, and how I reminisce about us whenever I sit in the same room where you unexpectedly told me a sandwich compliment in order not to hurt me, all the way down to the most concealed truths of how I feel for you, I want you to know everything specifically.
I want you to hear me say "I'm sorry," "I miss you," and "I love you". So many times I was tempted to tell you these words. I even accidentally told you once. I don't know if you've noticed it, but all I could say was call your name as my “Hello” and take your time as “Good bye.” It’s difficult not to be able to talk to you. It hurts not being able to tell you how I feel. But no matter how difficult it gets and how painful it becomes, we cannot escape the reality that some things are just better left unsaid.
The reality is...I’m choosing not to tell you because I’m waiting.
I’m waiting not for you, but for God’s beautiful plan to come true.
I love you, but I’m not waiting for you.
I’ve recently finished reading Corrie ten Boom’s book, ‘Hiding Place.’ Just like me, Corrie also fell in love with a man (Karel) who chose not to pursue her, but she didn’t let her brokenness keep her from loving Karel. More importantly, she didn’t let her brokenness keep her from loving God. Instead, she used her brokenness to gain strength from the Lord and love Karel the way God wanted her to.
“Corrie,” he began instead, “Do you know what hurts so very much?" It’s love. "Love is the strongest force in the world, and when it is blocked, that means pain." There are two things we can do when this happens. We can kill the love so that it stops hurting. But then, of course, part of us dies, too. Or, Corrie, we can ask God to open up another route for that love to travel. “God loves Karel—even more than you do—and if you ask Him, He will give you His love for this man, a love nothing can prevent, nothing destroy. Whenever we cannot love in the old, human way, Corrie, God can give us the perfect way. "
“Lord, I give to you the way I feel about Karel, my thoughts about our future—oh, you know! Everything! Give me your way of seeing Karel instead. Help me to love him that way. that much. "
I’m not waiting for you because I’m choosing to love you the best way I can. Corrie taught me that the best way for me to love you is to re-route my love for you to God and ask Him to love you for me. I’m asking God to love you for me because I know that He loves you more than I do, that He will give you the love I can never give you; that He will give you the perfect love in the perfect way – a love nothing can prevent nor destroy.
I’m not waiting for you because God remains to be my first and greatest love. Because my love for God is so much greater than my love for you, it is Him that I have chosen to trust and obey. I’m not waiting for you because my faith lies not in you, but in God. There is no assurance in waiting for you, but in waiting upon the Lord, all assurance becomes true. I’m not waiting for you because God told me not to. God told me to let go, and that’s what I’m choosing to do.
I'm waiting for God's beautiful plan to come true, not because I fully understand Him, but because I fully trust Him.
There is a great mystery as to what God’s plan is. Whether he plans for you to stay in my heart or stay in my life, I am not certain. Whether he plans for me to love someone else soon after or years later, I am not certain. Whether he plans for me to remain single or get married, I am not certain. However, because I trust God, I am certain that whatever His plan may be, may it be to marry you, to marry someone else, or to not marry at all, it will be best. For he declared to me, “I know the plans I have for you; plans to prosper you and not to harm you; plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11).
I’m waiting for God’s beautiful plan to come true—not because I love waiting, but because I know it will be worth the wait. I’m more than a hundred percent sure that the mystery, uncertainty, and difficulty of it all will be worth it because I will be waiting for the Man who loves me most, the Man who loves me best, the Man who loves me perfectly—God. I will embrace the precious reality that waiting can get tiring, frustrating, and depressing, knowing that the process of waiting also entails warmth, strength, and growth that comes only from the perfect love of the Lord.
As I wait, I hope and pray that you’re doing the same too. Don’t wait for me, wait for Him. Don’t wait for who you deem is “the one.” Wait instead for the only One—the only One who can love you perfectly. Wait only for our God, the Almighty. As what I wrote in the Bible I gave you (you were the first person I've given a Bible and probably the last one), 'Wherever you are, may you get closer and more intimate with your relationship with Jesus each day.' Because I pray for nothing less than for you to love Jesus more. Mizpah!
With love,
Zeal

De familie Zocher: parken en tuinen
Tumblr media

...suddenly I was afraid of what Father would say. Afraid he would say, "There'll be someone else soon," and that forever afterward this untruth would lie between us. For in some deep part of me I knew already that there would not--soon or ever--be anyone else. The sweet cigar-smell came into the room with Father. And of course he did not say the false, idle words. "Corrie," he began instead, "do you know what hurts so very much? It's love. Love is the strongest force in the world, and when it is blocked that means pain. "There are two things we can do when this happens. We can kill the love so that it stops hurting. But then of course part of us dies, too. Or, Corrie, we can ask God to open up another route for that love to travel. "God loves Karel--even more than you do--and if you ask Him, He will give you His love for this man, a love nothing can prevent, nothing destroy. Whenever we cannot love in the old, human way, Corrie, God can give us his perfect way." I did not know, as I listened to Father's footsteps winding back down the stairs, that he had given me more than the key to this hard moment. I did not know that he had put into my hands the secret that would open far darker rooms than this--places where there was not, on a human level, anything to love at all.”
I was still in kindergarten in these matters of love. My task just then was to give up my feelings for Karel without giving up the joy and wonder that had grown with it. And so, that very hour, lying there on my bed, I whispered the enormous prayer:
"Lord, I give to You the way I feel about Karel, my thoughts about our future - oh, You know! Everything! Give me Your way of seeing Karel instead. Help me to love him that way. That much." And even as I said the words I fell asleep.
~ Corrie Ten Boom, "The Hiding Place"
