i am a landa x herrmann shipper in a world of aldo x landa......
#i dont even believe 'herrmann's name is actually herrmann#because landa calls all underranking soldiers he doesnt know 'herrmann'#since yknow that name translates to basically mr man#and i believe its for yaoi reasons because landa stumbles upon calling him herrmann because he knows his real name#but chooses to call him an anonymous herrmann because he wants to have absolute control and certainty that when they get their private#island on nantucket that he will be able to wipe away all of 'herrmann's past with no possibility of his name being sullied#he takes the extra step to further protect his 'herrmann' because even if he trusts his own name with the US#he doesnt trust 'herrmann's name in their hands#ouuuughh im sorry guys im sorry im sorry i sniff yaoi cocaine and think something is canon and will immediately live and die by it#i need to ship aldo x landa so bad.... but landa x herrmann calls for me#the babies i would sacrifice for inglourious basterds to be a TV show where we get to see landas backstory#idgaf ill risk him being confirmed not a faggot i just need moar inglourious basterds i want to know the backstory of each character deeply#PLEASE#delusional asf in the club creating entire backstory pulled outta my ass for landa#sorry guys im a freak#if i was a writer id be the guy on ao3 who writes a 300k fanfic about landas growing up n shit#doesnt even focus on the yaoi for 60% of it its basically just landa growing up and yaoi with herrmann was just needed to tell that story

Hugo Stiglitz Imagines
Pairing: Hugo Stiglitz x reader
Warnings: Graphic death mention, blood cw
Requested by: Anonymous
Imagine if Hugo survived the fatality of Operation Kino. There was just one more Nazi left on his list and the Basterds’ happily obliged.
The sound of crunching leaves caused you, Aldo and Utivich to turn heads.
“Well, Goddamn’,” called out Aldo as he drank in the sight of a brooding, blood-stained Hugo Stiglitz.
“Hugo,” you whispered, shocked with relief that he was alive.
You rushed past the remaining Basterds over to him. Hugo allowed you to cup his face. It was covered in dirt, sweat and dark red droplets. Your finger grazed his cheek and he brought his hand against your own.
Hugo gazed achingly into your eyes. He felt the racing beat of his heart and rested his forehead against yours. He was unbelievably grateful that you were still in one piece.
Aldo and Utivich watched the couple silently. Hugo leaned away from you and caught the attention of the two soldiers.
“Where is he?” said Hugo gruffly.
Aldo and Utivich did not have to exchange looks to know exactly who Stiglitz was referring to.
“Sorry you missed ‘em. I reckon he’s on his sweet way to the Land o’ Free any minute now,” Aldo confirmed. “That is of course, if you have anything to do about it.”
“I mean, we did give him a nice parting gift to bring home to America,” Utivich replied.
“Got’a scalp outta that little driver of his, too,” Aldo added. “I’d say that’s a win.”
“Not yet. That Nazi’s mine,” Hugo gritted through his teeth.
Standing so closely, you felt the warmth of his body temperature rise. His eyes narrowed as he was staring at Aldo. Your hand pushed the other side of his face towards yours so he was looking at you again.
“You’re not thinking of— ” you started before Hugo cut you off.
“He can’t keep getting away with it,” He said, his voice firm and unwavering.
“Hugo, it’s dangerous. You just got back…”
His hand pulled your wrist away from his face.
“I have to be the one to kill him,” he said.
You matched his gaze and knew in your heart that this was the ultimate truth. Though, it had been the grief of thought— Hugo laying dead in the tavern, that was too unbearable for you to let him go so soon.
You thought of Hans Landa and his orchestrated deal to live an entire new life, his get out of jail free card, so to speak. The revelation sickened you.
“And you will,” Hugo heard you say confidently. His head turned to its side and he smiled at your words.
—— —— ——
Hugo sat on a stone ledge, sharpening his blade. You walked over and took a seat next to him, watching the way he maneuvered the blade’s edge back and forth. It was a comfort to know he’d let you sit so close, sometimes just to watch him. The two of you shared the silence, basking in one another’s company.
The repeated scraping of the blade came to a halt. Hugo tucked it away into its protective sleeve. Aldo passed by the two.
“Ready?” Aldo asked him. Hugo nodded at the southern man, his eyes following him.
“Hey,” Hugo’s quiet voice spoke out. You turned to him and felt his fingers entwine with yours. You looked over and saw a warm glow in his brown eyes. “Try not to miss me too much,” he whispered with a grin.
Hugo gently brushed his lips over your hand and you smiled. The soldier got up from the stone ledge and followed Aldo into the vehicle. His newly sharpened blade packed into his pocket.
“He’ll be okay,” you heard Utivich’s voice.
You smiled sadly, as the car drove off. “Yeah,” you agreed. “And that fucker doesn’t stand a chance against Hugo.”
Utivich laughed. “He’ll be scared shitless.”
—— —— ——
Aldo’s boots squeaked as he stepped out through the hospital’s bleak hallway. A German soldier guarding a door spotted him.
“Hey! You’re not supposed to—” His words were interrupted by the deep slit of his throat. A river of blood leaked out from the wound. The uniformed German collapsed and Hugo stepped over him, making sure to leave a dusted boot-print.
They reached the wooden door and the two men exchanged glances.
“Bingo,” Aldo said, nodding his head to the now lone door.
Quietly, Hugo turned the knob. There he was. The despicable Jew Hunter. Fast asleep, nestled on his cot. He had layers of bandages wrapped over his head.
Hugo’s eyes roamed back onto Aldo, and he smirked. “I’m a big fan of your work.”
Aldo shut the door behind them.
Hugo hovered over Hans’ sleeping body, lightly slapping his facial cheeks. Hans stirred awake, eyes widened in horror at Hugo’s menacing smile.
“Ah, Lan-da,” Hugo acknowledged in a tune.
Hans audibly gulped in fear. His big eyes flickered away from Hugo. “Aldo…” He warned. “Our deal!”
“Yeah, ‘bout that,” Aldo replied, stepping forward. “You remember what I said about gettin’ chewed out? Well, here it is.” He shrugged his shoulders.
“Auf wiedersehen,” Hugo said as he flashed a smile at the former SS officer. Quickly, he tugged at a pillow, covering the Austrian’s fearful face. Hugo, unsheathing his knife, forcibly stabbed through the cushion. Again and again and again.
Stab.
Stab.
Stab.
Underneath Hugo, Hans’ body reacted in a frenzy. His legs squirmed in a fit of struggle, his hands both gripped the sides of his bed.
The former officer’s grip loosened, eventually falling at its side. Hugo removed the pillow and admired his masterpiece. He crawled off of the body and pushed it to the floor with a thud.
Hans’ limp figure lied on the hospital floor. His sandy hair was tousled and stained with mists of dark red. Fresh blood was gashed across his face, dripping down his neck. With one last look, Hugo spit on the dead Colonel.
Aldo kneeled down and pulled out his knife. He began to scalp the last, most infamous Nazi on their list. With Hans’ scalp in his hands, he looked over to his fellow soldier.
“Nice work, Stiglitz. Let’s get’cha home.”

Love and Denial-Dieter Hellstrom x Reader (Inglorious Basterds)
Summary: You and Dieter are both SS officers, moving to France you both have no choice but to become roommates. His hatred towards you isn't anything new, but a few words from Hans Landa makes him realize that he really likes you, he plans to show this feelings to you soon enough.
(Never expected to write about Dieter from Inglorious Basterds since he wasn't one of my favorite, but now I need more of him. I will be writing a lot on these characters. Also this was inspired by a one shot I read.)
Tumblr media
"Under no circumstances do I want to see you interrupt me and Colonel Hans Landa meeting."
Was the first and last warning i was given by my friend, or should I say colleague Dieter Hellstrom. One of the top parties of the Nazi I've had the misfortune to meet. I kept a frown on my face last night when he warned me of today's meeting at our current home.
For the time being we were in France. We would be staying here for a while so instead of paying a fortune, though some didn't mind, we decided to split the money in half. Making things a lot more easier for us.
Though it was neither of our idea at first. Hans Landa was ecstatic when found out about this, he was the one who sort of forced Dieter and I to live together
Both go us never got along and the only time I would get free time from him would be at night. Now it's been a living nightmare having to see him at work and at night too.
"Whatever you ask Major." I teased and left off to my room that night.
Now it was the next day and the dark haired man was probably inside having something to drink with his fellow superior. He had his men with him here in France and so did I.
It was greatly uncommon to see a woman ordering about the Nazi party but I was one of the few, well respected. But, Dieter didn't take my work seriously. We began out training many years ago and since day one he's been the same.
Deceitful, clever, sarcastic and knows how to charm people with his facade. Oh, how I wanted to just punch his face sometimes.
If someone were to wonder what a true German would look like, then Dieter would be the perfect example. He's cunning, prideful of his work and his country a lot. The Fuehrer would be proud of him. I on the other hand had a different mindset than Dieter, though if he were to known and there's no telling what the Germans would do to me.
I simply did what I had to do to keep living and I will continue to do so.
The moment I started working for the Germans I was taught everything to survive, but one of the many works I did that made me rank up to the top was of a spy. Only very few new of my work and how I would do anything to get information from the enemy.
Dieter was no exception. Though I know of his hatred towards me I will say I've seen slight concern on his half, though most of them would be just insults and how I'll get myself killed. That happened once when I arrived all bloody with a few cuts
Deciding to avoid his warning from yesterday I began to head back home. There was nothing interesting at all going on and I wasn't planning to go back to work today on my free day. I was wearing regular clothes feeling too hot to be wearing the uniform today.
I peeked my head out when I entered my small home and saw Hans having a drink with Dieter smoking a cigarette, both men sharing a conversation. I quietly stated to move forward being careful with not making a sound of for either of them to see me come in.
"(Y/N)!" I nearly tripped onto an expensive vase when I heard my name being exclaimed from Hans mouth. The Colonel smirked when he noticed me presence.
Dieter on the other hand shot me an irritated look, knowing well of the task he had with me before bed. I grew nervous and remained still not wanting to say anything that would offend either men. Though my presence was offensive enough for the other one.
Both officer's eyes landed on me again again Hans whispered something to himself. "Dieter, I thought you told me this wonderful lady was asleep and feeling unwell."
Dieter fought the urge to roll his eyes he just confirmed to smoke his cigarette. "I simply told her to go and take a walk." He said not looking at me.
This made the Colonel scoff and look at the younger man. "Und diese Dame allein lassen? Es ist unhöflich, deine Freundin allein zu lassen." ( And leave this lady on her own? It's rude to leave your girlfriend on her own.)
This made Dieter cough up the smoke and it made me want to run away. I glanced over to see Dieter and found him also glancing back at me, both out faces got flustered.
"There's no way I'm into her!"
"There's no way I'm into him!"
Both of us shouted and looked away from one another. We both heard Colonel Landa laugh. "You both are like s bunch of teenagers, or, should I say an old married couple who keeps on fighting over the slightest of things."
Hans said in his thick English accent. I noticed a look of disgust on Dieter's face when Hans spoke those words.
"If you're not quick a lucky man will take her. Her cooking is excellent that even our Fuehrer would be proud."
"Thank you for your kind words, sir." I smiled and blushed at the compliment. Dieter simply looked back at me and scoffed before looking forward again.
"My dear. Since we are all free today, would you mind accompanying us."
I definitely didn't expect the Colonel to be asking us out. What is it that he is planning? It would be rude to disobey him, though if I agree my roommate will only grow more irritated at me. "i would love to, sir." I smile once again.
Colonel Landa clapped his hands together, "Excellent!"
I excuse myself and rushed over to my room to get dressed into something better. A bit of dirt had landed on my dress so why started looking for another one, a lot more decent looking and prettier than the rest.
I peeked my head out once again and now saw both men on their feet waiting by the door. "Sie ist nichts als eine Mitbewohnerin, eine einfache Möglichkeit, das Abendessen zu erhalten und weniger für diesen Ort zu bezahlen."
(She is nothing but a roommate, an easy way to receive dinner and pay less for this place.) I heard Dieter tell Colonel Landa.
This made the older man scoff and pat his shoulder. "Männer sagen das immer. Als nächstes wissen Sie, dass Sie verheiratet sind und Kinder haben." (Men always say that. Next thing you know you're married and with children.)
I pressed my ear closer and saw Dieter almost glaring at Hans for even teasing him with this conversation.
"Tell me. A talk from man to man. What do you want in a woman? Are you interested in forming a life either here in France or Germany."
It was unusual to hear Hans having these types of conversations. I might say that he sometimes acted like an older brother to Dieter Hellstrom. I rested my head on the wall next to me and stared at Dieter.
His cold hard stare sometimes does things to me. His perfect posture and the way his uniform looks so well and fitted on him-
"Well, my ideal woman would have to be headstrong, fearless, not afraid to speak her mind-"
Dieter immediately stopped when he saw the face Hans was giving him. "You just gave a brief description of Mrs (Y/N).
"I don't have feelings for her." He muttered and looked away from Hans.
I remember back then when we started training. He was having joy from fighting me, both of us panting and trying to attack or block them. I ended up on the ground with him gripping my hair and a boot which landed on my chest. Immediately after that I kicked him, held him down on the ground and accidentally landed s punch on his nose.
"I know that look you gave to her ever since she landed that punch, Hellstrom." Landa spoke again.
That's enough. Like he would ever return those feelings back, he's too prideful of himself and would out his country first.
Slowly I walked out and both of them turned to look back at them. I small blush landed on my cheeks when I noticed Dieter looking at me, even if what Hans said isn't true. At least Dieter's look on me will satisfy me.
"Schön wie immer, meine Liebe. Ausgezeichnete Wahl in der Kleidung." (Beautiful as always, My love. Excellent choice in clothing. Hans proudly said.
"Tell me, (Y/N). Are you a virgin?" His eyes seemed to darken. He wished to know the truth.
I felt my palms sweating up a bit. Even Dieter didn't expect the question since he seemed nervous as well. "Colonel-"
Landa simply gave a warning look to Dieter. "In your profession of work I wouldn't be surprised if a man-"
"I am." I quickly replied. I felt extremely embarrassed and felt my entire face turn red, many men thought the opposite. "Never once have I been intimate with a man."
Colonel Landa simply smirked and patted Dieter's back making him jump a bit. "Alright then. I'll be meeting you both soon. Dieter, you know where to go." Dieter nodded his head and saluted at Hans when he left.
As soon as Hans left Dieter glanced back and motioned for me to follow him outside. A car was awaiting for us. "Where are we going?" I asked before entering.
Dieter rolled his eyes as he adjusted his uniform and coat to look down at me with a smirk. "Do you think I'm going to tell you?"
"I'll make you tell me." I crossed my arms over my chest and teased him. His eyes seemed to darken. Instead he gripped both my shoulders tight and forced me to get into the car.
I huffed annoyed and felt him sit next to me when he closed the car and the engine started. The driver simply remained silent not daring to speak unless he was told to.
I pouted my lips and stared outside the window to my left and slowly looked back at Dieter. This action had made many men fall to my feet, maybe it'll work.
Even if he might push me aside if even punch me. I have to know if it'll work.
"Come on why don't you tell me?" I whispered and leaned closer to him and rested my hand on his leg. Dieter simply gave me a dark look and grabbed my wrist.
So it I'm didn't work. Dieter sighed to himself and boredly looked out of the window after relaxing hid grip on me.
"Frederick Zoller is infatuated with a woman. We are simply doing as Colonel Landa and his said. We'll be over with this in no time."
I tilted my head confused on what they may want. But I quickly smiled to myself and continued looking out the window until the car finally made it to a stop outside a movie theater.

.
Y/N was laying on the only bed in the room playing with a knife, completely absorbed in her own thoughts. There was a big mission in front of them, the biggest one of them all, and she didn't have a good feeling about it.
The knife blade glittered in the dim light of the lamp. Y/N put it down nonchalantly and slowly closed her eyes. She knew she needed to calm herself down. This was her job, a very important mission needed to be done, and there was no place for her feelings. She'd learnt to put them aside when required.
Her gaze drifted off to their leader. Aldo was looking out of the window, his ocean eyes cold, empty but somehow sparkling as well. He was eager to jump right into that mission, get it done and end this whole goddamn war.
"Let's play! I bet 5 bucks." Donny broke the silence while throwing a pack of cards on the dusty table.
"Alright, let's fucking do it!" Aldo surprised everyone by actually agreeing to gamble a bit. Utivich with Wicki just chuckled but sat down behind the table.
"C'mon! Let's have some fun, sweetheart." Aldo winked at Y/N, throwing some money in the middle of the table and gesturing for her to come and sit down with them.
"I have a name and it's not fucking sweetheart." she frowned at the nickname but joined the Basterds in their game anyway.
"Ready to lose, Lieutenant?" Y/N changed her attitude suddenly and grinned at Aldo.
"As long as I lose to ya, it ain't a problem for me."
"Glad to hear that, Lieutenant, 'cause I'm gonna win everything you have and then some more."
"I like that idea, Y/L/N." Aldo laughed while blowing out a cigarette smoke.
"Goddamn it, can you to get a freakin' room?" Donny frowned shuffling his cards, "we aren't interested in... whatever the hell you guys have going on."
Y/N chuckled and placed 10 bucks on the table, "Don't play such a lady, Donnowitz and give out the cards. What is between me and Mr Raine here is none of your business."
Donny stopped in the middle of preparing the game.
Hugo stopped polishing his knife.
Archie stopped walking back and forth.
And Aldo's heart stopped for a moment.
"What," Donny started, "you actually have something going on?"
And that was the moment Y/N realised she messed up. Nothing happened between them and that was exactly the problem - she gave herself away.
"E-hm," Y/N stuttered not being able to look anybody in the eye, especially Aldo. "Just give me a minute. Start without me. The winner can keep the 10 bucks."
•••
The night was cold but clear and starry. Something Y/N loved watching back in America in Smoky Mountains where nothing was bothering her. A single tear rolled down her cheek but she didn't do anything about it.
Y/N missed home more than anything. She wished to be back, see her family and friends again. She'd been away for 2 years now, on the other side of the world in the middle of the biggest conflict the world has ever been in.
"I miss it too, ya know. The States, Smoky Mountains, everything." Y/N heard Aldo's voice behind her. She turned around and her Y/E/C eyes met his ocean ones.
"How do you know I was thinking abou it?" she almost whispered.
"Well, darlin'," Aldo smiled pulling her closer to him, "we got a thing goin' on, right?"

Blood Stained Name (AldoxFem!Reader)
Requested by @svonschroeder
@owba-chan @inglourious-imagines @war-obsessed @tealaquinn @struggling-bee @frozenhuntress67
Let me know if you wanna be added to the basterds or OUATIH taglist :)
You were, what some may call, a legend during the war. And like many other legends, you served as a warning to the cruel, and an idol to the just.  And, like any other legend, you were hunted. In fact, there was quite a large bounty placed on your head, complimentary of the nazi party.
Dead or alive. The only problem was...your name was unknown. Your age was unknown. Your nationality was unknown. Any general description of you was flawed, full of anomalies thanks to  fearful stutters and shudders. You made it known that you were helping resistances and rebellions throughout Europe. With that many allies, and so few clues, you were even harder to track down. The truth was, it was hard to hunt a hunter...because in spite of all you'd done for others, every rescue, every code, every message... your real gift was hunting. Nazi hunting, to be precise. So, with nothing better to go on than "nazi-hunter," you were dubbed 'Orion,' and filed as an enemy of the state. The Orion Initiative started in 1941: An extensive mission and intensive investigation aimed at tracking you down, led by your polar opposite, the Jew Hunter: Hans Landa. Rumors of the nazi hunting started just months after the nazi party took over... An official (though top secret) report was started in 1940, when the hunt was clearly more than just a rumor. An official investigation was launched in 1941. By late 1942, a group of nazi hunters was identified, and originally considered a set of 'copy cats.' The theory was struck down...and the group became known as the ‘basterds.' It was now 1944... The Orion mystery remained unsolved, making it the longest investigation Landa had ever been on. It was a record... Something he was not proud of. He had to solve it.... The only problem was he'd never seen such a clean trail...such meticulous murder... Nearly a perfect crime, every time. Just enough evidence left behind to drive him insane, and just less than enough to piece anything together. It was done on purpose. It was a mockery, and he knew it.
What he didn't know was your name... In fact, nearly no one knew it. The French Resistance knew you as Anaïs Bellamy, a saving grace. To the Soviets, Tatiana Zima. To the Belgian Resistance, you were Cassandra Willems. But that was as many names as Landa could collect (through the most heinous means). Neither of them were legitimate, and all of them led to dead ends. You were a myth with a thousand names. Faceless, but full of lore. Each resistance that knew you, knew you as a hero. Nothing more, nothing less. Each nazi that knew you, never saw anything again. To the allies, you were an asset. To the nazis, you were a faceless, nameless menace. To Hans Landa, you were an abomination, and an embarassment. He would uncover your name and face,  and close that case and file, if it was the last thing he did.
He swore that he'd find you. You were just like him at the end of the day. You used the same strategies, same intimidation, you played the same game... Of course, you knew that. And it drove you crazy. Because you wanted to be nothing like him... Nothing like your father. Unaware of your million names, you were simply Y/n to him. His daughter.  To you, he was simply a nazi. Dead to you, the moment he first put on his SS uniform... But he didn't know that. He was too busy with work, and you didn't quite mind your game of cat and mouse. You liked driving him crazy without him even knowing. As he worked overtime trying to find a single connection, you smirked, as he rattled on and on about names and clues. He’d never been so frantic over any case before... Every once in a while, you’d throw him a bone. A useless, broken bone, at that. A puzzle piece to a puzzle without a picture.  Still, he’d smile at you, the only thing in the world he had, and sighed, “Danke, Y/n...” Y/N.  Very few people knew that to be your name. And one yank hillbilly by the name of Lieutenant Aldo Raine knew it....
By accident, of course. He never quite had the pleasure of making your acquaintance, but he did know enough of your friends in the resistance, and as a basterd, he was privy to some information most people weren't. It was rare, but he somehow connected the dots. He saw one of your identifications. One of the many.... He may have been a bootlegging redneck from the humble Maynardville Tennessee, but he was no idiot. And he practically had a photographic memory.
There were faces he never forgot. And yours, on those fake French papers, was one of them. Your name stuck with him... Your name....the thing you hated most about yourself.  "You're so much like him!" "Same eyes!" "Same brains, too!" You forced a smile through it all. You couldn't take much more of this. You were trapped in a crowded lobby, in a cinema, surrounded by your enemy. Your name... This was the exact reason very few of your allies knew your real name. They equated you to your father. They were suspicious of you, a possible double crosser... It took so much to convince people of your true colors. But...you couldn't blame them. You still carried all the blame of your father's sins. You didn't think twice. You just fought. And you fought the urge to cry and scream, and burn the place down in that moment. Landa was a blood stained name, and there was nothing you could do about it... You sighed, as your father interceded, accepted compliments on your behalf...and proceeded to encourage you to mingle. "I want grandchildren some day." It took every ounce of you to brace yourself, and remind yourself that there was already a plan for the night. You forced a smile as you lost yourself in the crowd, away from him, and leaned over the railing of the second floor, watching the final night of your life come and go, there at the Nations Pride premier. ******** The war went on, and the basterds built up a way into Emmanuelle Mimeau's cinema: Operation Kino. Along the way, Bridget revealed she had eyes on the sinde of the regime....and the theater. She showed the basterds the picture of her spy.  A 'darling little thing,' as she held up a newspaper clipping. A daughter of a renowned nazi officer. A face Aldo recognized.... but no... It couldn’t be... He’d believe it when he saw it. And there you were, in the lobby with the rest of the nazis, for the premier of Nation's Pride. Aldo spotted you from across the room as he walked in with Bridget, Omar, and Donny. He was caught off guard, seeing a legend like you in person was almost like seeing a ghost story come to life. He whispered with astonishment, "Y/N Landa." You had spotted them from a mile away, on the second floor, as you leaned over the rails. You smiled, having learned to read lips long ago,  as you looked Aldo in the eye. You knew time was running out. You knew Operation Kino in and out. It was a sign of the times...so you may as well have fun with what you had left of it. You winked at Aldo, and blew him a kiss. He was flustered for a split second.
Tumblr media
Donny snickered, Omar smirked, and Bridget looked away, blushing as she giggled. Only moments before the boys could make their way to you for last minute updates, they ran into a little problem. Your father. ....Still, Aldo smiled and nodded snarkily as he made conversation in an embarassingly tragic excuse for Italian. Aldo couldn't believe it.... Hans Landa had no idea who his own daughter was. **********1943*********** "Monsieur Raine, you've just missed her!" The Basterds' contact in the French Resistance, Etienne, chuckled. "Who?" He smiled, "Your counterpart. Orion." Donny raised his eyebrow, "You said 'her'?" Etienne nodded, "Her." He held out a copy of your resistance identification. Aldo held the paper, and looked up, "Orion's a woman?" He narrowed his eyes as he looked at the fake name: Anaïs Bellamy. Hirschberg leaned over his shoulder, inspecting the documents... a bit disappointed, having hoped that Orion was an American. Etienne rolled his eyes, "German. Y/n Landa. One of the best we got." Another resistance fighter smiled as he cleaned nazi blood off his guns, "Good kid. Good aim. Fast runner." ---Meanwhile--- "Verdammt. Verdaaaamnt. Verdamnt." You muttered under your breath, as you climbed through your bedroom window, threw off your bloody, war-torn clothes, and threw on something presentable. You quickly glanced into your mirror. You popped your thumb in your mouth, and then wiped away some blood from your cheekbone. Your hair was a mess, and you looked tired. Perfect. You practically flew down the stairs, and rushed down the halls. You had a job to do in Paris. You couldn’t exactly waste time conversing with that fiend that dared call himself a father.
But you were stopped by an old familiar voice. "Another bad night, liebling?" You sighed, and shuffled toward the doorway in the dining room. "Ja..." Your father sighed as he put down his newspaper, and looked at you, as he smoked his pipe. He shook his head, and went on about being worried, and telling you for the millionth time that you should see a doctor. "No, but I-" "Your grades are slipping! Don't think I haven't noticed." He grumbled a little.
"I'm still graduating next semester." "You're still seeing a doctor." "But-" "Tomorrow morning." "But." He raised his voice, "Case closed." That was it...
Once Hans Landa said 'case closed,' he meant it. ************************ The night went on, as expected... Mostly.
As he interrogated Aldo and Smitty, he expected he had it all figured out. "What shall the history books read?" Aldo raised his eyebrow, "Yeah? An' what about Y/n? Ain’t that kid still in the theater? Be a shame. Ain’t that right, Utivich?" Utivich smirked a little, “Yes, sir.” Landa stopped smirking... His face grew spiteful, his eyes narrowed with the intent to kill, "Tell me how you know my daughter's name or I swear I'll send word to the theater, I'll have the rest of your men shot, and-"
Tumblr media
"Relax Landa. I know all my associate's names." Landa shook  his head, "Associates?" He smiled, thinking he had it figured out again, "She was infiltrating your basterds, and didn't tell me!" He grinned, "I tell you, that girl is just like me. That's it, isn't it?" Aldo smirked this time, and shook his head once, "Nope." Landa's face fell. If looks could kill... "So you either make that there deal, or not. Y/n is my man on the inside. And ain't no way you takin em boys out without settin' em bombs off." Landa left the desk, and immediately sent orders out for you to be found, and escorted directly to him. Then he took the deal with the general.  He would deal with you later. He couldn't tell if what Aldo said was true, but he desparately hoped it wasn't... and even more so, he wanted you out of that cinema. As Smitty and Aldo were escorted onto the truck to be taken behind allied lines, a nazi ran up to Landa with some news. You were not found... He was silent for a moment, and looked down as he nodded slowly, bracing himself for the possibility that you never would be found. Perhaps, you'd gone out for some air. Maube you'd gone home, and finally got some sleep. Or you went out looking for your dear old dad... Maybe....maybe you'd met someone worth loving there, a high ranking officer. (You had...but Aldo wasn't exactly the man Landa had in mind for you.) "Sir." Hans snapped out of it, and nodded as he made his way to his seat. Everything went well...too welll... The next thing he knew, Aldo had carved a swastika onto his face, and as he screamed in agony, Landa saw a nazi truck pulling up.  A hijacked one. One with three familiar faces. Two basterds, and a hunter.
Landa was a smart man, but, his hope and sentimenatality won out for once. He believed for a few moments you were there to save him, that you'd apprehended Donny and Omar, and you'd given him a fighting chance. You were just like him, after all, all the people said so. Maybe you'd be a double crosser, and help him. But you didn't. As blood from Aldo's mark dripped into Landa's eyes, he looked up at you, betrayed for a moment. Then....it all came together. He pursed his lips, as he pieced every single bit of evidence together.  You knew things there was no way for you to know. You had been right under his nose all along. It had been the perfect place to hide.... He gave one psychotic smile, as he watched you raise your pistol, and aim it at him. "I knew you'd outsmart me some day." You heard Aldo step up from behind you, "Y/n...he's still your father. We can take care of this." Landa, at the moment, was truly intrigued at what would happen next. But you didn't put your gun down. You shook your head, not even looking at Aldo. In fact, you looked at your ‘father’ the whole time.  You muttered, "I don't have a father." He seemed betrayed again, for an instant, but then again, you were just like him. A double crosser with a mission. He nodded. He smiled as he nodded.
Tumblr media
He accepted it... You were just like him, after all... And he finally had an answer to the Orion Initiative. It would remain unofficial, and lost... But the case was finally closed. To him, at least. The Orion Initiative had an answer. It had been right under his nose, all along. He really was impressed, and psychotic as it was...he was proud of you. But the feeling was not mutual. You knew even after all that, he wasn't sorry. And the guilt of the nazis had done would forever weigh on you...So one less nazi in the world, one last hunt was all you could ask for. The war was over, but at that moment, there were things you and every other resitance, soldier, and victim would never forget. This was it... He smiled, and shrugged, "Case closed, Orion." You pulled the trigger. At that moment, there were thousands filing into streets, drinking, celebrating, dancing in the streets.... But when the confetti was swept up, and the soldiers went home, and the toppled regimes’ dust settled...everyone would have somewhere to go.
The gunsmoke cleared, and you took a breath, for the first time in a long time. You lowered your shoulders, and unclenched your jaw... For the first time in a long time, you could rest... But you had no place to call home. No one to call your own, in spite of the thousands that knew you, your face, and your story, few knew your name... Even fewer knew you. But you felt a hand on your shoulder, and a soft voice with a strange accent. "Y/n..." And you turned to see a warm smile, and kinder eyes: Lieutenant Aldo Raine... But he'd tell you you could call him Aldo, later that day.  And your world turned upside down. "Well...” He put his hands at his hips and sighed as he smiled at you, “You ain't part of the deal, Orion, and I sure as hell am gon' get chewed out for this...but I think we'll find somethin' for ya." You smiled genuinely for the first time in a long time... That was the first, honest thing you'd heard in longer than you could remember... He took your hand, as you walked with the basterds to the west, to the general, and to freedom. As you smiled at Aldo, and he smiled at you, you knew you were going somewhere safe, somewhere far. Perhaps on a mountain, somewhere in the middle of Tennessee. It wouldn't be like the mountains in Austria that you knew, but, a kinder place, one far from war, and farther from your memories of it. There in Aldo's eyes, you found something new as the sun began to rise in the horizon. A beginning... A place to call your own, a name without a blood stain.

Inglourious Basterds
youtube
Tumblr media
I am jumping out of order with the third Quentin Tarantino film I am covering here is not QT’s third film, Jackie Brown, but instead for his 2009 alternate take on World War II, Inglourious Basterds (trailer). Click or press here for my article on Reservoir Dogs, and click or press here for my entry on Pulp Fiction. I have owned the BluRay since it first released well over a decade ago, and it is a shame yet another QT gem has sat in my backlog for so long. This takes place in occupied France with a riveting opening scene where German Col. Hans Landa (Christoph Waltz) conducts an interview with a local dairy farmer which eventually leads to questioning about missing Jews. This being a QT film, the dialog is intentionally drawn out, with Hans pausing the interview for a refreshing glass of milk, and digressing on other tangents before eventually getting to the burning question. Once again, QT absolutely nails the art of conversation like very few of his peers can. Every subtle body language flinch and pivot throughout their verbal exchange is not wasted, and it ultimately pays off with a unforgettable impact to close the scene. If it was almost any other filmmaker, my tolerance would have surely been tested, but there is something to QT’s scripts that without fail have me 100% invested in their surplus of verbiage as much as a climactic action scene in the latest summer blockbuster.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Be prepared for some vintage-QT dialog-heavy scenes...I wouldn't want it any other way from him! This being a WWII film, one would think it would be safe to presume there is a fair amount of military combat scenes. While there is a significant body count by the end of the film, the firefights are not of the typical Hollywood WWII fare, so do not expect any all-out tanks, war planes, and massive artillery skirmishes. Most of the action that transpires here involves a team of Jewish American soldiers headed up by Lt. Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt). After the absurd fallout from their latest mission in a basement tavern, they receive intel from undercover operative Bridget von Hammersmark (Diane Kruger) that Nazi leadership including Hitler (Martin Wuttke) himself will be at the grand opening of the latest military propaganda film, Nation’s Pride.
Tumblr media
The theater owner where Nation’s Pride will be premiering, Shosanna (Mélanie Laurent), has an intriguing arc on how she is roped into debuting the film at her cinema which is caused by the relentless intimate pursuit of German soldier, Frederick Zoller (Daniel Brühl). Without giving too much away, Shosanna has her own agenda too, and everything builds up splendidly to the big premiere night of Nation’s Pride. I vividly remember going into the theater not clued into the ending which I will not spoil here, and I was instantly stunned at the direction QT went for the final act. There is nearly an hour and a half of bonus material on the BluRay. The standout bonus is a half hour interview with Brad Pitt and QT, conducted by Elvis Mitchell with some highlights of their conversation being how energetic the overall shoot was, and what it was like premiering the film in Germany. Other extra features worth checking out is the full six minute cut of Nation’s Pride, a quick look back with interviews of the cast and crew from the original 1978 Inglorious Bastards, and a pair of interviews with Rod Taylor who has some fun behind-the-scenes stories with QT on how the two have the utmost respect for each other.
Tumblr media
Inglourious Basterds did not disappoint with a highly entertaining second viewing where nearly the entire ensemble cast excelled in their performances! For a film that is two and a half hours long, it proved to be a swift viewing after being so engrossed with all the aforementioned dialog-dense scenes. I cannot fairly rank this among QT’s movies as I nearly love them all equally, but it goes without saying if you have made it this far then you know I am giving this the highest of recommendations! Notes: Okay, Here’s The Ending FOR REAL This Time. Here We Are, Boys. The Great, Eluded Finale. Again, As I’ve Stated Before, Fear Not! You Are All Getting A Donny Donowitz x FtM-Trans!OC With Two Endings. I Really Hope You Guys All Enjoyed This Series As Much As I Did, I Know I’ll Keep Aldo And Joshua In My Heart Forever. Well...Enjoy.
Utivich, Joshua, and Aldo once again found themselves in the back of the truck, which drove them through a dirt road to the middle of some misty forest made up of tall, thin trees. It looked straight from a horror film.
Hans sat in the passenger seat of the truck, admiring Aldo's knife, which he had confiscated.
The truck finally slowed to a stop, Hermann and Hans getting out and walking to the back. There, they pulled Aldo, Joshua and Utivich out, pacing the group a few feet away from the truck. Hans kept their hands cuffed and made them stand in a line, Hermann beside him.
Joshua glanced up at Aldo, giving Utivich a quick look before turning back to Hans.
"Hermann, uncuff them" Landa told, Hermann nodding and going to uncuff Joshua, Aldo, and Utivich, in that order.
Aldo groaned softly once he was uncuffed, so Joshua immediately turned to softly hold his hands, inspecting Aldo's wrists for any marks or bruises.
"Are you okay?" He softly whispered, blue eyes full of care as he gently handled Aldo's wrists."Did they cut ya?" Josh asked, momentarily looking up at Aldo's face as his thumbs stroked one of Aldo's wrists.
"It's fine, darlin'" Aldo mumbled, Joshua nodding and pulling away. He looked Hans up and down, taking the gun the Colonel offered him. Aldo cocked it, showing it off to Joshua before tucking it into his belt. He brushed his hand against Josh's, then pushing his blazer back to place his hands directly over his hips.
"I'm officially surrendering myself over to you, Lieutenant Raine" Landa smiled, using both his hands to hand his own fancy-looking knife over to Aldo; the same Aldo who has only ever really been used to Joshua surrendering himself over to him- in a completely different way, obviously."We're your prisoners" he added, Aldo swiftly taking the knife when Hermann was back beside Hans.
"How about my knife?" Aldo asked, giving Hans a fake smile of his own.
Landa chuckled, digging into his coat and finally giving Aldo the knife that he rightfully owned.
"Thank you very much, Colonel" Aldo squinted."Utivich, cuff the Colonel's hands behind his back".
Utivich wordlessly nodded, walking behind the whining Colonel.
"Aw, is that really necessary?" He fake-pouted.
"I'm a slave to appearances" the Lieutenant admitted, pulling Joshua closer to him before fiddling with the artillery now in his hands."Why do y'think I chose Margolis here above anyone else?" He asked, turning to smile at Josh.
Joshua smiled to himself, lightly elbowing Aldo. He shot a glare Hans' way, before leaning in and placing a sweet, loving kiss on Aldo's lips.
This gained him just the reaction he was looking for: a groan of pure, absolute revulsion from the cuffed Colonel.
Utivich freely kicked the Colonel.
"Cover yer ears, simple thang" Aldo informed, pulling his 'simple thing' nickname. He put an arm around Joshua's shoulders, keeping him close.
Joshua looked up at Aldo, confused, slowly going to cover his ears with his hands. He watched Aldo nod thankfully, and shoot Hermann without even looking at the guy. Joshua leaped back a bit, having still heard the gunshot even though it was muffled.
Utivich pat Joshua's shoulder, as Hans looking down at Hermann, shocked.
"Scalp Hermann." Aldo blankly commanded, giving Utivich the fancy knife.
Utivich looked pleased, pulling the knife out of the sheath and walking over to Hermann quietly.
"Are you mad? What have you done? I made a deal with your General for that man's life!" Hans snapped, looking between Aldo and Hermann.
Joshua smiled in a sickeningly sweet way, wrapping his arms around one of Aldo's and leaning his head on Aldo's shoulder when the Lieutenant pulled his arm back from around Josh's neck.
"Yea, they made that deal, but they don't give a fuck about him" Aldo explained.
"They need you" Josh finished.
"You'll be shot for this!" Hans yelled, having Joshua scrunch his face up in disagreement.
"Uh, n-nah, we don't think so. More like chewed out, we've been chewed out before, haven't we, Aldo?" Joshua asked, Aldo nodding in response.
"You know, Utivich, Margolis and myself heard the that deal you made with the brass. Hard not to, since we were all in the same room. End the war tonight? I'd make that deal" Raine nodded again, stare fixed on Hans."How about you, Utivich, you make that deal?" Aldo asked, turning to look down at Utivich, who was scalping Hermann like he was told to.
"I'd make that deal" Utivich nodded.
"And you, Josh, you make that deal?" Aldo turned over to Joshua, a smile melting onto his lips.
Joshua had his cheek flush against Aldo's arm, nodding once."I'd make that deal".
Aldo's smile turned into a triumphant grin at Landa."I don't blame these two, damn good deal! And that pretty little nest you feathered for yer-self? Well, if yer willing to barbecue the whole High Command, I suppose that's worth certain considerations. But I do have one question" he turned to Joshua, to speak for him.
"When you get to yer little place on Nantucket Island, we imagine yer goin' take off handsome-lookin' SS uniform of yer's. Ain't ya?" He asked.
Hans stayed completely still, his silence speaking for him.
Joshua grinned, exchanging a knowing look with Aldo."That's what we thought".
"Now that I can't abide" Aldo huffed.
"How 'bout you, Utivich, can you abide it?" Joshua asked, putting his hand on his hips.
"Not one damn bit, sir" Utivich grunted, a sound of relief escaping his lips when he finally pulled Hermann's scalp clean off.
"And you, sunshine, can you abide it?" Aldo asked Joshua.
"Not at all, Lieutenant".
Aldo lightly nudged Joshua, who automatically pulled away. He took a step towards Hans and leaned in."I mean, if I had my way, you'd wear that goddamn uniform for the rest of yer hinga-dinga-durgen fuckin' life" Aldo grumbled, a strict gaze on Landa."But I'm aware that ain't practical, I mean, at some point, yer goin' to have to take it off. So," the Lieutenant pulled out his knife, showing it off in front of the Colonel's face."I'm goin' to give you a lil' somethin' you can't take off. Actually-" Aldo turned to his beloved."Joshua Margolis, I believe it's about time. If you would be so honored, would'ja like to give this grimy motherfucker what-for?".
Joshua's eyebrows jumped in surprised, as he pointed to himself."M-Me? Oh, uh, Lieutenant, I dunno-".
"C'mon, Lieutenant, y'seen me do it about a hundred times. Utivich'll hold his feet down, and I can guide ya" Aldo bargained, using the tip of his knife to tilt the Colonel's hat up, revealing his forehead.
Next thing Joshua knew, Utivich was indeed holding down the screaming (in agony) Colonel's legs from kicking and moving, as the Nazi lay on the cold, wet dirt he was pushed onto.
Aldo crouched by Hans, Joshua squatted in front of him, as he steadied his knife in the Lieutenant's grip. He had his chest pressed against Josh's back, his hands over the other's."Just like that, baby, smooth 'n' steady" Aldo whispered, guiding Joshua's hands as he helped the other carve a swastika into Landa's forehead.
Joshua gulped thickly, exhaling shakily as he tried his best. He had Aldo all up against him, his boyfriend's hot breath on the nape of his neck and purrs of praises rolling into his ear, after all. This was proven a little bit difficult given his current situation with trying to stay focused on cutting a swastika into a Nazi's forehead, and not all the ideas running around his head that involved Joshua and Aldo within close proximity of each other; but under drastically different circumstances.
"Pretend he ain't screamin', alright? Pretend he ain't doin' nothin', and y'can't hear shit, alright? Yer doin' amazin', baby, good boy" he praised, hands still over Joshua's, leading him through it.
Once the swastika was perfectly etched, Joshua pulled the knife away, cheeks growing darker as more ideas swam into his mind.
The two Jews (and Aldo) looked down at it in wonder, Aldo tilting his head slightly."Good job, Joshua, I love you" he planted a kiss on Joshua's cheek, unaware of his boyfriend's current underlying problem.
"I love you too, Aldebrand" Joshua repeated, voice full of glee. He turned and kissed Aldo again, the Colonel's cries getting louder when they did.
Utivich slapped Hans to make him shut up.
"Y'know somethin', Utivich? I think this just might be our masterpiece" Aldo spoke when he pulled away, Utivich giving a toothy grin as he nodded in agreement. He groaned as he stood up, helping Joshua and Utivich up with him.
"S-So, uh, so wait..." Joshua started, scratching his jaw.
Aldo and Utivich turned to look at him.
"So- shut up-" Joshua hissed, stomping on one of Hans' legs. He scoffed, looking back up at his boyfriend and the Basterd."So if- if Landa here gets arrested, what happens to all the shit he asked of from the General? The medals, the privileges, the money, the property on Nantucket Island. If he gets arrested, none of it will go t'him" Josh listed, looking at Aldo, specifically, for answers.
Aldo put his hands on his hips, biting his bottom lip in thought, holding back a chuckle as Joshua kicked the Colonel, scolding him to stop screaming."I think," he started, scooping Joshua into his arms, grip around around his waist, "that I'll see to it that the General finds enough kindness in his goddamn heart to hand schnitzel-shit's gifts over to us" Aldo pulled Josh closer, chest to chest."I'll see to an extra piece o'property in Nantucket for Utivich" he declared.
Utivich's eyes widened as he turned to Aldo suddenly."Sir!" He exclaimed, hands raised, as if to grab something.
"Yer the toughest Basterd we got, Utivich. After all, yer the last one that's alive. It's only right" Joshua pointed out, an excited smile on his face."But- But what about the first house?" For the first time in his life, Joshua wasn't very smart.
Aldo chuckled, in an 'awe, he's so cute' type of way as he checked Joshua out."We'll take it, of course; it'll be somewhere only we know".
Joshua now had an expression identical to Utivich's on his face, stomping on the Colonel's leg to shut his protests up. He remembers the many 'somewhere only we know' hideout locations the two of them had, growing up."Seriously-? Aldo, I- I don't-".
"Aw, c'mon. Imagine it, Nantucket Island. Ever wanted a weddin' by the sea, Joshua?".
Joshua felt his heart fall out of his chest with happiness, locking eyes with Utivich, who had an equal amount of shock written all over his face."I- I- I've wanted t'get married, yea, but was always a lil' too afraid to think about the, uh, the- the details 'n' such..." he shyly admitted, looking down at his feet.
Aldo placed a finger on Joshua's chin, tilting his head up to make eye contact."Our lives are as fucked up to the public as is, doll. Now that the war's over, nothin' is stoppin' me from getting my hands on two rings 'n' makin' Utivich our secret officiant, if he so wishes". He turned to look over at Utivich, who nodded urgently as his eyes darted between Aldo and Joshua.
"Sir, yes sir!" He sounded eager.
Aldo smiled, turning back to Joshua and interlocking their fingers."Think about it, Joshy. Weddin' by the sea, our own place in Nantucket t'wind away, in. We'll adopt a lil' doggy or take in a youngster of our own- don't go thinkin' I didn't see you smilin' back at the doctor's with Bridget, I saw ya- I've been waitin' long enough, Joshua. Lovin' you since we were teenagers, that's long enough, darlin', seriously. Like I said before, threat is imminent. And I gotta protect the one thang I can't live without: that's you. I wanna- I wanna marry the one thang I can't live without, Joshua, I wanna marry you. I also don't wanna almost lose you again like at the tavern; I don't wanna almost lose you like that without havin' put a ring on ya, first" he professed, breaking his gaze to softly kissing both of Joshua's knuckles.
Joshua gulped, feeling his face start to heat up again. If this was Aldo's way of proposing (especially right after the deaths of so many men the two of them quickly grew attached to), Joshua would allow it. As of right now, the two of them haven't been able to properly mourn for the Basterds they lost, so the quicker they got together, the better, right? Saves no room for what could have been, if one of them were to die before getting married. He could already feel the tears welling up in his eyes.
"This love has gotten stronger ever since our teen years, and I don't wanna wait any fuckin' longer to actually make you mine. I wanna be with ya even when we're grey 'n' old, Joshy, believe me. Now, I know, I- I- I've never been good at the whole sweet-talkin' thing, so I'm kinda going off on a limb, here, with all o'this and I'm bein' as honest as I've always been, with you" Aldo stuttered, shaking his head."I'm so in love with you, darlin', and I'm proud of how we've come so fuckin' far. We've both lost men- good men, that we both already miss 'n' really care about, and now, it's up to us to not lose each other. You were always there for me when I needed you most, and I want you to be with me forever, 'cause baby, I'm yer's. What'd'ya say, Joshua?".
Joshua swallowed, lips slowly parting. He pulled his hands away to drag them up Aldo's arms, one hand around his neck and the other on the back of Aldo's head."Aldo, I, uh...I..." he quickly licked his lips, too happy for words as tears slowly started to trickle down his cheeks.."That's what I've waited all my life for" Joshua giggled, a huge smile breaking out onto his perfect lips as he nodded.
Aldo let out a breath he didn't know he was holding, his loving gaze going to longing when he looked down at Joshua's lips.
Joshua knew that look all too well, and turned to Utivich."Y'don't mind, if we...y'know, do you, Smithson?" He asked, wiping his eyes swiftly.
"No, sir, of course not. Congrats, I can't wait!" Utivich shook his head, clapping his hands quickly. On cue, he kicked the Colonel in the face, knocking him out and finally shutting him up.
"Thank you" Joshua squeaked, turning back to Aldo, pressing his lips against Aldo's own. He closed his eyes calmly, slinging both his arms around Aldo's neck and pulling him as close as he could, Aldo doing the same with his muscular arms around Joshua's waist.
Aldo slowly closed his eyes, momentarily lifting Joshua up, off the ground, to show how happy he was. He broke out into a grin when Josh's feet touched the ground again, going to kiss his cheek, jaw, then one final one on his neck. Aldo slowly pulled away from giving him his much-deserved affection, just to look at Joshua and smile."God, Joshua Margolis..." he called, hugging Josh.
"Hmm?" Joshua hummed, a warmhearted smile on his lips as he hugged Aldo tightly.
Aldo shook his head, "I love you. So goddamn much".
"Well, Aldo Raine..." Joshua sniffled, pulling away to look Aldo in the eyes."In, uh, i-in a way that's too damn much for anyone to understand, I love you too" he confessed, using his thumb to wipe a stray tear from under Aldo's right eye.
The pair burst out into a fit of soft giggles, knowing that as of this moment, they were no longer the inglorious boyfriends everyone could know, but inglorious husbands. Aldo and Joshua quickly reconnected their lips for another kiss, one that only Basterds who were truly in love could share.
*****
Thus concludes the tale of Lieutenant Joshua Margolis and Lieutenant Aldo Raine. You're probably wondering "But Beck!", And "What happens to them AFTER the movie?". Well, I'll tell you.
Right after this glorious kiss we left off at, Aldo pulls away. He looks Joshua right in his blue eyes, and his face finally breaks. Aldo's smile disappears, as he starts crying- and I'd be lying if I said Joshua doesn't start crying over Donny and the Basterds, too. I'd also be lying if I told you all that Utivich doesn't finally let his guard down and break down sobbing, like he almost did in the truck in Part 7. Joshua pulls Utivich into the hug, and it's a whole group-hug sob-fest that they're finally able to mourn over the Basterds they lost, in.
Joshua and Aldo moved on to fight in the Korean War side-by-side, in the early 50's. They retired from their respectful military lives sometime before the Vietnam War, and settled down. Shame, though: they would’ve kicked ass in it.
Aldo and Joshua settled down in Maynardville, Tennessee, back where it all began. Josh used his family money to build a Jewish day school near his childhood home, in honor of Donny (there's a plaque out front and everything). If possible, I’d like to believe he named it after Donny.
Speaking of...Joshua was right, in Part 7. For years after the second world war ended, Aldo and him would find themselves spending many silent nights, lying awake, wishing things could have gone differently for the Basterds, imagining what could have been, thinking about how much they miss these truly good men. Joshua would occasionally find himself comforting Aldo, telling his husband how it wasn’t Aldo's fault, there was nothing they could have done, and so on, while holding back tears of his own because he’s having these same thoughts haunt him, too. These same thoughts, on how it was probably Josh's fault, and how there could've been something Josh could have done, and so on.
On a brighter note about the Basterds, the two of them made sure to put in an effort with keeping in touch with Utivich. Joshua and Aldo took in an orphan, a young boy. Wanna know what they named him? Easy.
Smithson Raine. They named their son after PFC Smithson Utivich, who was blown to tears after he found out. Aldo thought Utivich wouldn't cry, but Joshua knew he would.
Smithson Utivich retired from the military shortly after Aldo and Joshua did- he found a girl, got married, and had kids of his own, a son and a daughter, that he named Omar and Bridget.
Utivich eventually wrote and published a book, revolving around WW2. Specifically, the Basterds, his time with the Basterds, and their fates. He wrote stuff about Aldo Raine, and wasn’t afraid to hide Aldo’s romance with Joshua. He wrote about how Aldo and Joshua grew up together, got into military life together, formed the Basterds together, and how they shamelessly did so while romantically involved. This was because he had an inkling that the history books would merely write Aldo and Joshua off as ‘close friends’, but Utivich wanted to share the truth with the world. He wrote about how close Aldo and Joshua were, how they got married in secret, and took in a kid (he mentioned how he officiated the wedding, and how they named the child after him) and how their love never faltered, a day in their lives. This war autobiography grew to be a huge success, which is surprising, due to its clear message about Aldo’s and Joshua’s homosexuality.
Smithson Utivich passed away in June 1996, 5 decades after WW2 ended (in Inglourious Basterds). He passed away due to a heart attack, his legacy being left behind in the form of his kids and his book.
Aldo and Joshua died hand-in-hand on December 25th, 1996, after Aldo’s long battle with cancer, and after Joshua came to the conclusion that his own pneumonia has won. Joshua left behind his childhood estate to their son Smithson Raine, who obeyed his parents’ wishes and buried them in Joshua’s family’s orchard, side by side. He’d have buried them side by side whether they asked him to or not; it would’ve made sense for them to be buried like that, since Aldo Raine and Joshua Margolis have been at each others’ sides their entire lives. And they should have the right to still be with each other, side by side, in death.
Because for these Inglourious Husbands, even death can’t do them part.
