Leoji + 16: upside-down kiss

prompted by @puddingcatbae on twitter, thank you for requesting my fave cutie-pie skater boys ♥

The sun’s shining at the height of midsummer, and Leo’s out practising handstands in the back yard.

He was always rubbish at them when he was a kid with scrawny arms and so much more excited by dancing and soccer and learning how to do his first jumps on the ice, and he had so much going on that learning how to do them was never an issue. But the neat thing about growing up and incorporating gym sessions between the skating and dancing (the soccer is high injury risk and sadly had to go), is that now Leo’s strong enough and patient enough to learn a few new tricks. And it’s been a couple months, but he keeps his arms straight and core strong, and smiles wide when he takes one stride forwards on his hands, then another, until he’s walking almost as easily as he might on his two feet.

There are steps on the patio—probably Guanghong, gone inside to take a call from his coach and fetch them iced tea from the fridge. Leo redirects himself to walk towards him, and hears soft clunks on the picnic table, quiet humming—and then, finally, an incredulous half-yell.

Honestly, it’s not like it’s anything really special, but Leo stills springs off his hands to see Guanghong staring, slack-jawed; and Leo knows Guanghong’s shocked because his phone is loose in his hand, and Guanghong never misses an opportunity to post things that amaze him on Instagram.

“Oh my god,” he says, biting back a laugh. “You’re gonna let flies in looking like that.”

Guanghong gapes at him like a fish. “You never told me you could walk on your hands!”

“You never asked,” says Leo. Which is a reasonable thing to say; after all, they’re figure skaters, not gymnasts, and just ‘cause Leo’s good at handstands and has friends in the US gymnastics team who’ve taught him some cool tricks doesn’t mean it’s ever going to be useful (or legal) in a competition. It’s kind of sad, though; he used it in an exhibition skate once and it got a better applause than any of his jumps.

“But…” Guanghong seems lost for words, and he still hasn’t made this a Thing on social media. Leo’s slightly concerned. “But Leo… that’s so cool!”

Leo laughs and rubs the back of his head. He doesn’t deny it, though; after all, it’s because it’s cool that he learned to do it.

“Do it again!” Guanghong says; and all of a sudden his phone is up in prime recording position, and with a few taps his eyes light up. “We can absolutely top ten thousand likes on Instagram with this.”

“You can top ten thousand likes, it’s your account,” Leo points out. But’s he’s nothing if not willing to help out, and springs himself back in position.

“Okay, now walk… hand… go forwards,” Guanghong says, determined despite stuttering over the terminology. Upside down, it’s hard to talk, so Leo walks forwards and does his best to ignore how much faster the blood’s going to his head this time round. Guanghong could’ve waited five minutes, surely? Maybe it’s his fault for being bad at saying no, or wait, especially when Guanghong is involved.

“And now in a circle.” Guanghong’s firmly at home behind the camera, commanding and decisive, and Leo wonders if he’s realised his vocation is really as a bolshy director, not a hotheaded actor. I can do both, Guanghong would say to that, defensive as you please. Leo’s still pegging him as a director.

He’s getting awfully close to the flowerbed, and now Leo’s feeling the strain through his wrists and the burn in his stiff-straight elbows. Please don’t let me crash, he begs Guanghong silently. Telepathy would be really great right now. He doesn’t want to ruin Guanghong’s video by falling over, but even he has his limits.

“Backwards, backwards, away from the flowerbed.”

Maybe telepathy does exist after all. If so, the blood’s starting to pound loud in Leo’s ears, and now would be a really great time for Guanghong to let him come down.

“Now—smile for our followers!”

Leo whines, but ducks his head down and gives it his best shot. But the movement proves too much. The pressure in his head rises to a blood-squeezing peak. Leo squeaks.

And with a yelp, his arms wobble, and he topples down to crash against the grass.

“Leo! Ughhh, we were so close!”

Leo moans and squeezes his eyes shut tight. His blood’s flowing in the right direction again and it feels awful.

“We need to do another take,” Guanghong mutters somewhere near him on the grass.

“No,” Leo says. “Please, no, let me die. And then let me stay the right way up.”

There's a shuffling noise in the grass, and a shadow passes over Leo. He cracks open one eye.

Guanghong's hovering over him, with the sort of half-pout half-flame-emoji expression Leo can’t help but associate with him getting his own way.

“Please?” he tries again.

Guanghong doesn’t answer right away, but bends down and braces his head over Leo’s.

“Only ‘cause you’re cute,” he says. Leo rolls his eyes. As if.

If it were only ‘cause he’s cute, he doubts Guanghong would do what he does next—and that’s to lean down, and peck a kiss upside down to Leo’s nose. He grins, and wriggles further into the sun-warmed grass. He could stay like this all afternoon. And then, still close above him, Guanghong pipes up again.

“...But do you think you could do another take in twenty minutes?”

I’m a little late for the paranormal prompt (day two), but it is still @yoispookyweek, and here is my submission. A little soulmate/ghost story starring Yuuri and Victor.

Title: The Cursed Uchigatana Rating: Mature Pairing: Victuuri Tags: Major Character Death, Graphic Depictions of Violence, Alternate Universe - Soulmates, Soulmate-Identifying Marks, Romantic Soulmates, ghost, Haunting, I'm sorry he had to die to become a ghost, Angst, Characters Can't Touch, Pining, Eventual Happy Ending, YOI Spooky Week 2021 Summary: Be careful what you wish for, especially when you speak with gods.

It was a lesson that Katsuki Yuuri would learn the hard way. When his life came to a violent end, he called out to the gods. All of his pain, his regret over never meeting his soulmate, of being robbed of his chance at the life and love he yearned for, manifested in his prayer. And in the process, he somehow managed to curse himself.

But fate is a funny thing, and it may just be that, in the act of cursing himself, Yuuri may have given himself another chance.

*Major character death is at the beginning of the story. The graphic depiction of violence is for the same scene. In order for there to be a ghost, someone had to die.

What is your total word count on AO3?

117,079. Um. So...I might have a thing for multi-chapters with huge ass updates?

How often do you write?

Honestly, right now, I’m trying to write at least a little bit every day or every two days for my fanfics in between my research. I’d love to sit down and bang out half a chapter like I used to though!

Do you have a routine for writing?

I usually like to plan my stories out first in separate documents, or at least detail the major plot points, before beginning my writing. If my story requires research, I then add each and every relevant source to the document, or as I go.

What are your favourite kinks/tropes/pairings?

My kinks are first and foremost unconditional love, respect, and support! Other than that, I guess there’s banter during sex? Post-coital cuddling?

I am a sloot for regency/royalty/historical stuff! I’m not sure if they’re tropes though?

Pairings. Oh boy. Are you all ready? Victuuri, Tododeku, Leoji, Kiribaku, Tsuchako, Daisuga, Kagehina, Momojirou, Seungchuchu. Honestly, too many to even count at this point.

Do you have a favourite fic of yours?

Wedlock will always hold a very special place in my heart, because I wrote it during a time of great stress, and I needed to research a different historical period to make sure that my head wouldn’t explode from stress, and was the first time I actively undertook a fic like this. What makes it special was the fact that they were my first real big experience with interacting with fandom at large, and I am so happy that I was able to make new connections this way. To Have and To Hold is also very important to me, because it was the first time I worked with another author (the uber talented Angie) on a fic, and it was an honour to do so with her!

Your fic with the most kudos?

To Have and To Hold is the one with the most kudos, but if we’re talking about solo works, One Available Copy is the most popular one!

Anything you don’t like about your writing?

I don’t like how I can get a little purple prose-y at times, and that my sentences tend to run on. I’m working hard to improve on it though!

Kiss prompts!

Over the last three days, I wrote 14 kiss prompts for 8 different pairings (Otayuri, Victuuri, YuuYu, Pliroy, Leoji, Phichimetti, Sheith and Yuri & Potya).

I wrote over 9,000 words for these prompts. In three days. So that’s pretty cool :D

I loved writing these prompts and expanding my horizons as a writer. For example, this was the first time I wrote YuuYu (and keeping up with the number of u’s in the names was a pain).

Top Creative Works of 2017

1. Tattoos With Meaning & Music With Feelings (Seungchuchu, Leoji)

This one was a lot of firsts for me, it was my first multichaptered fic, my first time collabing with another author and the first (and only) time I had art drawn for a fic. It brought me and @ispyblu , my lovely co-author and internet sister (friend isn’t close enough) closer than we were before and it was a lot of fun writing it with Bella. I am super proud of it and you guys can check it out here.

2. Coffee, Black. (Seungchuchu)

This one was also a lot of firsts for me. It was my first time writing writing for the Yuri on Ice fandom, first time writing for a fest type thing (it was for yoi-secret-valentines), and it was my first time writing something slightly out of my comfort zone as it was for a ship that I wasn’t familiar with before writing this. 3. Perks of Being a Bartender (Drarry)

This was super fun to write, as it was an amazing prompt, and my first time writing Drarry. I had a lovely beta to work with, @restlessandordinary , and a lot of people encouraging me along the way. You can see this one here.

I didn’t create a whole lot this year, I only have 2 other fics, both seungchuchu. So this ended up being a top 3 list. Thank you @the-cellar-spiral for tagging me. I’m tagging my sis @ispyblu because she’s amazing and I love her a lot.

RULES

Everyone is welcome to participate as long as they follow our rules.

Song choice is up to the creator, but the song you’re taking inspiration from must have been released within the decade that you’re creating your work for.

NSFW is allowed but must be tagged appropriately.

No reposting. All works must be original and your own.

No human/animal pairings.

We would prefer for the triplets not to be a part of any pairing. However, any other parings, whether it be Victuuri, Otayuri, Leoji, Seungchuchu, Milasara etc. are all welcome!

No ship or character hate. We want everyone to feel welcome to participate should they wish to and bullying will not be tolerated.

FAQ

How do I participate?

On the appropriate day, post your work. You can either post it to your own blog and tag it with #yoimusicweek and/or #yoimusicweek2017 and we’ll reblog it as soon as we see it, mention us @yoimusicweek within the post, or you can simply submit your post to us.

Will there be an AO3 collection?

Yes, there will be. You can find the 2017 collection here. If you are posting your work to AO3, feel free to post a link to tumblr as well, making sure to tag it with #yoimusicweek or #yoimusicweek or mention us in the post.

What are the prompts?

Prompts will simply be the decades from which you can choose any song you wish to base your work on. Voting for prompts will begin on 24th July and end on 4th August.

Can I choose any song?

As long as it was released in the decade of the day you’re writing for you can choose any song you wish. This includes musicals based in that decade!

Do I have to base my work in the decade that the song came out in or not?

No, you don’t have to. You can if you want but it’s completely up to you.

Can the song be in any language?

Yes, it can! There’s no requirement for the song to be in English - or, indeed, have any lyrics at all.

For the free day, can the piece of music be from any decade?

Yes, ANY decade! You’re not just limited to the last century for the free day, either - the piece of music can be from any point in history, so if you want to choose a classical piece, or something even older than that, you’re more than welcome to!

Can I submit early or late? Do I have to do all seven days?

We’d prefer you to submit your work on the day of the appropriate prompt, but if you found out about this event after it started and still want to participate, you’re more than welcome to as we will be accepting late entries. Feel free to skip days if you want, or submit multiple pieces for one day.

I’m writing fic for my entries, are there any word count restrictions?

No! Entries can be as long or short as you’d like.

How can I become an affiliate?

If you are a mod for a YOI event/ship/character week blog and want to affiliate with us, please privately message us and we will most likely accept. No personal blogs or non-YOI blogs will be accepted. Affiliating with us means that we will link to each other’s blogs and reblog each other’s promotional/informational posts.

Rainbow Diffraction Spike

*crashes into the leoji tag 9 months late* HEY WHAT’S UP (this is @guccimetti over at cer writing blog)

for leoji week 2 day 2: first meeting

word count: ~385

summary: Leo and Guang Hong meet at a rink in the summer of 2012 and form an instant connection (and watch all three High School Musicals in one day).

anyway, this little bite sized thing (it’s been so long since i’ve written something under ~1k!!!!) started as an idea i got in bed one day and typed into my phone, which then turned into an idea for the soulmate prompt for the first leoji week, which then didn’t happen bc of Stuff, which I then decided to make fit this prompt

I had to tweak this one a bit to make Guang Hong and Leo seem more like young teenagers bc I apparently forget sometimes that not everyone is a word maven like yours truly (which I definitely WASN’T when I was 13/14)

rainbow diffraction spike comes from the diffraction spike of stars (stars are mentioned a lot in the story) and part of Guang Hong’s name meaning rainbow

Outcome: Guanghong lost his grip on the second fold, then on the whole thing when he panicked and shifted his occupied hand to try and fix it. Stumbled into the desk and knocked a teddy bear onto the floor. Thankfully, he did not poke me in the throat this time round.

Flush: spreading beyond the cheeks.

Cause: of the clumsiness?

Still trying to determine whether it is, in fact, me.

(I stumbled across this accidentally and have not stopped thinking about it since. Beautiful. So beautiful. I want this fic engraved onto my tombstone.)

(I’ve been reading this for months now and after a certain development in today’s chapter just had to kinda shout about my love for it. It’s paranormal au. I’m not gonna lie, that put me off reading it for MONTHS but PLEASE PLEASE don’t let this disaude you as althought it’s definitely a plot line, it’s not the cominating factor of the story, not by a long shot. It’s got angst, the most beautifully written plot and descriptions, love, affection. @ded-i-am-just-ded I’m actually just gonna rec this to you straight up right here right now so you can cry with me because I’m sure you’ll love it like I do.)

Yuri!!! On Circus- Yuri!!! on Circus! In this AU you will have Victor as an albino, Yuuri a contortionist, Yuri the cat boy, Otabek a giant mute, Georgi the Fortuneteller. The cast will all be acts with in the circus. We will follow as Leo has run away with the circus, different acts, troubles and just in general the circus life set in early 1900's.

Hung- Prompt - Imagine what the fandom would be like if Yuri was the one with 19 cm... I might have made him larger......

Sand and Salt- Summer romances are always the best. Guang Hong, local surfer kid at the beach falls for the lifeguard in town for the summer.

(I love me some good goddamn unresolved sexual tension and beautifully written smut! I would read anything they threw at me, I’m not going to lie- everything is just so well crafted and feels so realistic. I especially love in Only Losers the whole psychology paper and getting those little glimpses into the other characters and their sexual personalities- so so clever!!!!)

Almaty’s Fire- They were like the lost boys, and of course Otabek was Peter. Yuri was fine with being Wendy if it meant he got to keep the thimble at the end of everything, when the sirens would be drowned out by the sounds of drums and the blue and red lights would flash something gorgeous against his skin.

Or; The lead singer is supposed to have a ton of groupies. Otabek only has the one.

Start of Everything- He didn't realize someone could fall in love with their best friend, but watching Yuri light a sparkler and chase the other Yuuri around his own garden made something click. The way he threw his head back in laughter, his hair and his face equally lit in the golden twilight. It was just a little ache in his heart, something he hadn't felt before. It confused him, made him furrow his brows together.

Or; Otabek has tried really hard to be good enough for everyone in his life, but Yuri is easy to please.

(I’m so happy I stumbled back upon these works- I remember reading the first chapters of both way back before I even had an ao3 account (which isn’t even that long ago lol) and being absolutely blown away with how well they are written. Especially in Start of Everything- the way Beka’s feelings and anxieties are presented- gosh it felt so so real)

(I love this so so much! I’m not sure what you’d classify this au under, neighbours? Friends to lovers? But again it focuses on Beka’s struggles with being an ignored only child, and how he deals with it. It’s definitely bittersweet and although it hasn’t been updated in a while, I highly recommend the read!)

Not a random one- He found that those fluffy and sweet fan fictions were starting not to be enough anymore. His feelings for Otabek weren’t of the innocent type, and while he was already used to fantasize about them, he’d gotten so used to actually reading that one day he just slipped. He found a pretty vanilla one, and promised himself that it would be enough. It was a one time thing, it had to be. It wasn’t.

It’s almost two in the morning, and Leo doesn’t know what he’s still doing awake. Granted, he’s used to late hours, but most of his late nights involved being curled up in bed with his phone balanced against his headboard as he half-mumbles, half-yawns through his sentences and watches Guang-Hong flit about his morning routine. He’s usually warm and comfortable and ready to nod off once Guang-Hong finally scolds him for still having been awake and announces that he’s preparing to leave for school or practice.

Not sitting in the middle of an airport as his coach tries to communicate in slow, awkward French with a desk attendant that has the patience of a saint.
