Xiao Yanli, Different lives

What if... After the death of the Girl-Who-lived, Marigold Dorea Potter she was reborn to seven different life to make up for the horrible Childhood as a gift from Lord Death after returning all 3 Hallows to Death.

The first life I had was when I was Marigold Potter the only daughter of Lily and James Potter. I lost both my parents at the age of 1 on the night of Hallow Eve, when we were attack by the Dark Lord known as Voldemort. It wasn't long after my parents death that I was sent to lived with my mother's hateful sister Petunia Dursley and her husband Veron Dursley who Abus me they have basicly made me their own slave until I was 7 years old and I was taken as the apprentice of Aoko Aozaki,

I trained under her until I was 12 years old before I enter Clock tower and I enter the department of creation, Modern Mage theory, and General Fundamentals. I have an Ex circuit Quality and having a duel Element of Creation and Fantasy. She also became a Master in the 5th Holy Grail War having manged to summon Gilgamesh the King of Heroes as Caster Servant. She was also the best cook of her time and she also learn the cooking style of Shiro Emiya.

My 2nd life, I was reborn as Phenex D. Ariana a Pirate and a member of the Spade Pirate under the Captain of Portgas D. Ace as it's cook and 2nd in command, she later became a Whitebeard Pirate along side her captain Ace who was also her boyfriend at that time. She died on the same day as her husband Portgas D. Ace's excution for being the son of Gol D. Roger. She died protecting her daughter Portgas D. Anne from a Marine Admirals. Before she took her last breath she in trust the safety of her daughter to her friend Marco the 1st commander of the Whitebeard. She lived her life to the Fullest, as Phenex D. Ariana later on as Portgas D. Ariana.

My 3rd life, I was reborn as Rin the small ward of the Great Demon Lord of the West Sesshomaru who raised Rin like his own pup. He taught her how to be a Great General and how to handel many different weapon like it was an extension of her hand that it became secound nature to Rin. She was courted by Kohaku the last male Demon Slayer, Sesshomaru allow him to court his adopted daughter Rin, they evenutally gotten married and left 1 son Arashi and 1 Dsughter Minako, by the time Rin died her two children was already 14 years old, and she died taking down a powerful Dragon Demon with her.

My 4th life, I was reborn as Uzumaki Hisana the younger twin sister of Uzumaki Kushina she and her sister are the Princess of the Uzumaki clan and when Hisana was 10 years old she was captured by a Kumo Shinobi and was saved by her male classmate Namikaze Minato. During the 3rd Shinobi war, she was known as Hisana the Red Angel of Death. She evenutally married Namikaze Minato after the war ended, they been married for 5 years when she gaved birth to their son Uzumaki-Namikaze Naruto, but during his birth a man claiming to be Madara Uchiha attack the Village with the help of the ninetail which is under the man's control. Minato planned to Sacrifice his life to seal the ninetail inside their son, but before Minato could seal the ninetail inside their son, Hisana knock out her husbsnd and did the seal sacrificing her own life so that her husband and son along with their village could survived.

My 5th life, I was reborn as Marinette Dupain-cheng the Hero of Paris Known as Ladybug. But she had enough of Lila Rossi's lies and with Hawkmoth gone their's nothing keeping her at staying in Paris not even her mother so she decided to go lived with her father again, Bruce Wayne along with her brothers. Her family was not happy to happen to her in Paris and Bruce was not impress with Sabine Cheng for beliving a liar than their own blood daughter who is a trrrible liar as a child and Adult. She evenutally end up getting married to Jon-Kent,

the son of Clark Kent and Lois Lane. Lila's lies are expose years later by then all their future are already ruwin all because of Lila's lies, they tried to apologize but they don't even known where Marinette is except for her mother Sabine who told them she lived with her father and brothers before she got married. They were all shock to learn Marinette is the only blood daughter of Bruce Wayne and she end up marring Jon-kent and they have 1 daughter Mara-El. Marinette didn't survived the Darkside envision which devested her husband, Brothers & Father to her death.

My 6th life, I was reborn as Alexsandra Starling the daughter of Hecate goddess of Magic I was one of her most powerful demigod child. I was known as Alexsandra the Slayer of the Kakaren, Minator, and Medusa. I died during the secound Giant War with Gea.

My 7th, current and last life I am reborn as the youngest daughter of Concubine Qin, Xiao Yanli the younger twin sister of Xiao Rou who was mostly ignored for befriending Huang Beiyue the 3rd daughter of their father.

During Rou, Yanli, and Beiyue's presentation when they were 6 years old so they could begin cultivation it was found out that Beiyue was unable to cultivation so everyone saw her as useless, but Xiao Yanli stayed as her friend.

Xiao Rou turn out to be a warrior like the rest of their family, while xiao Yanli the fifth miss has the spirital root of her bloodline having the Element of Fire, Lightning, Earth, Ice, Water, and Wind. That she has the potential of being a Warrior, Pharmacist and Summoner.

Yanli is even more powerful than her older half sister Xiao Yun who older than her by 2 years the 2nd miss of xiao and the favorite grandchild of their grandfather. Even if Yanli is the far superier Summoner between the two, her family still ignore her for being friends with Beiyue. Princess Royal Huiwen who is gratitude of Yanli for being her daughter's friend even when it was discover she was unable to cultivate so Princess Royal mostly raised Yanli like her own dayghter and pay for her own cultivation. And help her earn her own monry along with traing her as a powerful Summoner since Senoir Master Xiao is busy train Xiao Yun to help Yanli.

With Princess Royal's help, Xiao Yanli is the most beautiful daughter of Xiao, which is making Concubine Xue and her brat of a daughter Yun seething with rage that Princess Royal would help the youngest daughter of Concubine Qin for being gratitude for Yanli being friends with Princess Royal's useless brat.

She was given by Princess Royal Huiwen a Sliver Snake pill grade 4 that brings out the best beauty a woman can have and must be taken at a young age she must take one until she turn 16 years old, by then she'll have grown to a beauty that her blood could afford her. Eye mind Pill where things she hear and read she'll remember forever for her study. Beauty Pill that should be taken when she turn 12 years old that would grant her ideal shape and fuller breast that by the time she should be 16 years old she would have attractive body shape. She also was given a bone washing pill to take on the stop since she has fragile body and she also given high grade Space ring for her use to keep pills in.

By the time Beiyue and Yanli were both eight years old, Princess Royal unexpectedly died suddenly without any explantion and her father Xiao Yuancheng has incur the wrath of the Emperor for the Hastel burrying Princess Royal Huiwen. It wasn't long before all the maids of Princess Royal left after her death except for Dingling Beiyue's personsl maid. And it wasn't long before father's concubines convince father to move Beiyue in Cloude providence a run down shack. Mother and father dosen't allow me near Beiyue anymore, but I still help Beiyue when I can when I sent my personal maid Ying to gove food for Beiyue and Dongling without being seen by anyone.

By the time Yanli was 10 years old she has unknowingly gain the favor of her maternal grandfather counselor Chief Qi that he has been giving her allowance and Culravtion need she need and it didn't help that she is nothing like her mother Concubine Qin. And that she get along with Meng Hongling who's 1 year older than herself. The Qi household were also th e first one to ever taste her cooking for not even her mother and sibling has ever tasted her divine cooking.

By the time Yanli is 12 years old she was already a 5 star Summoner without a spirit beast of her own, she has been search for a spirit beast she like to have for a while before challenging any spirit beast. She has been taking small quest for extra money to start building her own dowry since I doubt the Xiao can give a big dowry with her father Xiao Yuancheng's original earning was only 40 gold before he married Princess Royal which became 100 gold. Her grandfather Counselor Chief Qi agree that she should have a head start since Xiao Yuancheng's wouldn't have possibly able meet high dowry to marry up instead of down.

Xiao Yanli is strong enough to challenging a spirit Beast and I finally manged to tame a Spirit Beast of my own I have the Ice Dragon

Hyorimaru the spirit Beast that rival the strength and power of the Wuling Ice Bird Bingluan. Hyorimaru is a very prideful Ice Dragon, he would have never listen to me who had not defeat him in battle or someone weaker than himself that required someone's help to tame him, so when I made a contract with Hyorinmaru my cultivation shoot up that I'm now a 9 star Summoner like Crown Prince Huang Zhanye, while my half sister the secound daughter, Xiao Yun is still merely a 2 star summoner without any spirit beast of her own.

Yanli taught her older cousin Meng Hongling to be a better cook than their own maid that their grandfather request Yanli to teach their maids how to cook properly which Yanli agree to her grandfather's request. And who ever endup marring Yanli and Hongling they would be one lucky guy.

Yanli is taking class of Mount Archery, Painting, Military Strategy, Medicine, Summoner, and Pharmacist class which are quite eassy for Yanli since she already know most of her classshe sign up for in one of her previous life as Marigold Potter and Uzumaki Hisana.

Xiao Yanli recently became Enganged to the Crown Prince Zhanye with the approval of both her grandfather Senior Master Xiao and Counselor Chief Qi agree to the Engagment, even the Emperor aproved of Yanli to be Zhanye's future Empress.

1 year later...

Meng Hongling is now officially engaged to the third Prince that she's now known as Princess Hongling like Yanli who officially got engaged last year to the crown Prince Zhanye.

And to celebrate the recent engagement of Hongling to the third Prince their having a party. Originally they were planning on inviting all the Xiao Children, until Yanli convince them otherwise that her older twin sister Xiao Rou chasing Boys and the 2 sister Xiao Yun would use anything to make Rou lose face by reminding everyone mother's past and indoing so Hongling and myself aswell, so they invited all the Xiao children with the exception of Xiao Yun.

Counselor Chief Qi can see what his secound favorite grand daughter mean about Xiao Rou being a boy crazy that she would approach a boy who is not even single like the third Prince. She is alot like his disgraceful daughter Qin and not on a good way.

Xiao Rou is jealous that jealous that her younger twin sister Yanli has gotten herself Enganged to the Crown Prince Zhanye with grandfather's approve and it dosen't make it any better that her older cousin Hongling is now also Enganged to the third Prince as well, while she herself is still very much single. And 2nd sister Xiao Yun already gotten a Fiancee to Xue Che the former fiancee of Huang Beiyue herself, who's a 4 star Summoner.

5 months later...

It was found out that Concubine Xue is an accomplice on killing Princess Royal in order to steal her money for her own daughter Xiao Yun's cultivation in order to Level up as a Summoner, but Xiao Yuancheng gaved her the providence of miyang while he gaved the providence of Qinghe to Concubine Qin in order to make her two older childer Xiao Zhongqi and Rou's cultivation and cosmetic pill. The only one who escape punishment of stealing from the Royal family are Xiao Yanli, Concubine Fang, her daughter Xiao Ling, Xiao Zhonglei

And the moment Xiao Yanli the fifth daughter of Xiao found out what her parents did, she had want nothing to do with them that she disown herself from the Xiao. Counselor Chief Qi took his youngest granddaughter Yanli to his household that she is now known as Qi Yanli instead of Xiao Yanli.

Concubine Qin's crime on stealing from the Royal family and two of her children known the only who didn't was Yanli before she disown gerself from house Xiao. And Concubine Xue's crime on stealing the from the Royal family and accomplice with the murder of Princess Royal, both Concubines were banish from Nanyi Country and strip of their title as a noble.

The reminding Xiao Children who lost their mother was adopted by Concubine Fang and Senior Master Xiao came out of Retairment and became the Xiao Head once more in order to save his reminding family because of his son's stupidty along with his two arrogant Concubine they lost their noble statue.

Xiao Yun lost her spirit beast the Ice cat which the Emperor had it release back to the wild along with her cultivation pill the same could be said with both Rou and Zhongqi and put a stain in their name that Senior Master Xiao made Xiao Zhonglei the new Xiao Childe instead of Zhongqi who lost face because his crime on helping his mother steal from the Royal family.

3 years later...

Princess Huang Beiyue was 16 years old when she disappear from Nanyi Country without telling anyone where she's going not even her only maid and friend Dongling knows where she disappear to. The Emperor order everyone to Search for her for 2 years but no has been able to find Princess Beiyue.

Princess Qi Yanli took Dongling as her third maid after Princess Beiyue left Nanyi out telling anyone of her where about not even her most trusted maid who was privilege to cultivate unlike any other servants and she was also citizen in Nanyi so unlike other Slave servant she get pay for working and now that she work with Princess Yanli as well she was aloud to continue to cultivate like her two other maids Huian, and Changying. And it didn't help snything that Dongling is Princess Yanli's friend since Childhood with Briyue.

By then Prince Feng Lianyi has return to his home Country Beiyao for 3 years now when Beiyue disappear. After his term in Nanyi came to an end. Princess Yingye was Heartbroken to see Prince Yi leave and return to his home country, where he will have to fight for his life just to obtain his rightful place for the throne.

5 years later...

Qi Yanli is now 18 yesrs old and has gotten alot more beautiful with having Jade Skin and she's now a Divine Summoner Rank 3 along with her Hyorinmaru who's a Divine spirit Beast Rank 3.

Meng Hongling is now 19 years old and a Gold class Enchamtress and warrior. The war recently ended in Beiyao with Princess Yingye confessing her feelings for Princess Feng Lianyi who recently became the new King of Beiyao, he realized along time ago that Beiyue would never return his feelings for her when he confess before leaving Nanyi and she turn him down so he had time get over his feelings for Beiyue that he evenutally accpet Yingye's confession. They evenutally married since Princess Yingye was 20 years old by then and Lianyi was 24 years old.

Dongling who recently turn 20 years old got married to a Dukedom and an old friend of that Luoluo the new Duke of Bujiel that Princess Yanli release Dongling to bet married but she is still very loyal to Yanli for taking her in when Princess Beiyue left her.

3 years later...

Qi Yanli and Huang Zhanye finally got married when Yanli turn 20 years old by then Hongling is already married to the third Prince Last year when she turn 20 years. And by then Zhanye already ascended to the throne so when ge married Yanli he made her his Empress.

It was well known in the Palace that Emperor Zhanye only took his two Concubine Nuan and Concubine Ju.

Because of duty as he required to have atless have two Concubine, while his heart only truely belong to one woman and that is Empress Yanli who is a powerful Divine Summoner of the Ice Dragon Hyorinmaru. She is the strongest Famale Summoner and warrior of her generation. That non of the two Royal Concubine Nuan and Ju could ever think they would ever rival the Empress especially with the backing of her family.

It wasn't long before Empress Yanli gaved birth to a son Huang Jin the first born son of the Emperor and the legal born child of the Emperor. Empress kept his son's away from the Royal Concubine in fear that they would poison him just so that their own son became a legal born with Jin out of the way.

Unknown to the Royal Concubine that the Empress Yanli Hidden the facts from two Royal Concubine that she has became pregnant once again with the help of the Emperor and her two loyal maid. Yanli gaved birth to twins this time the oldest is a boy they name Huang Ryoga and the daughter was given the name Huang Jia. The empress kept her three children away from the Royal Concubine and train each of them to be a power Summoner and Warrior. Since Prince Huang Jin has a Dual Element of Fire and Lightning, Prince Huang Ryoga has a dual Element as well having a Fire and Water, while their only sister Princess Huang Jia has Fire and Earth Element.

By the time Prince Huang Jin the first Prince of Nanyi was 14 years old he was already a nine star summoner of the Fire Dragon. The two Royal Concubine find out that the Empress had two more children after her son Prince Jin was born their's the 4th Prince Huang Ryoga and his twin sister Princess Royal Huang Jia who are 12 years old who are both older than Prince Huang Ren son of Concubine Ju he was belived to be the 4th Prince until Prince Ryoga came out of hidding.

And the year after that Empress also reveal her secound daughter Princess Huang Lian who's older the 6th Prince Huang Leo son of Concubine Nuan.

Xiao Ling who evenutally end up marring a strick Duke Fu Xavier who she has two children with and they are Fu Chang the family childe and then their only daughter Fu Meilin the first daughter of Xavier, both are born legal children since Ling is the legal wife.

Xiao Rou and Zhongqi evenutally got married, but they are unable to marry up unlike their former sister Yanli and Ling for they lost alot of face when their mother's crime came out. And even Zhonglei married a woman from Dukedom like Ling and they have one daughter xiao Hualing.

7 years later..

The four children of the Empress grown into powerful Summoners like their parents the First Prince Jin who's now 21 years old got married to a woman by the name of Ye Lingyue

like their father the former Emperor Zhanye took only two concubine their's concubine Yue and Concubine Jade.

Empress Lingyue is a powerful summoner that would one rival Empress dowager in Streagth of Emperor Jin's own mother Qi Yanli. He already have a daughter with his Empress by the name Huang Mingyue and then their's her twin brother Huang Hong.

Xiao Yun tried to make a life outside Nanyi since she has no future as a Summoner to her home country that she run to Beiyao country and became a Servant in order to gain the favor of her master like her mother Concubine Xue who died 2 years after her Banishment. She tried to make a living in beiyao being only a 2 star summoner she didn't survive at Beiyao very long.

While no one had seen Huang Beiyue in a long time she living in Beiyao with her husband Monlian.

Now then, I’d say its time I showed off the details about my boy, once again, hope y’all enjoy learning about him!

Appearance:

Zoroaster is a tall boy with dark brown skin and playful golden eyes resting upon his angular face. His expression is usually easy going and playful. Often displaying a playful grin or an energetic smirk against his lips. Resting atop his head is a nappy black-silver Afro, bound in a pair of emerald- gold goggles which sit in his hair. His body frame is rather broad and lanky, wide in the shoulders and thin with his arms and torso. Usually he’s seen wearing a black-high collard suit with emerald designs arcing across the fabric, as below this he wears an emerald waist coat with black designs. And wrapped around his neck is a gold tie that is clipped within an emerald band that resembles a shadowed face. While around his waist is an emerald gold sash that drapes atop his left leg. And finally the rest of his outfit consists of a pair of black trousers and dress shoes.

Personality:

In a summary he’s a showman, eccentric, chaotic, inquisitive and a truthful schemer. Though in more detail, he’s very expressive with every movement, snapping and swaying with every step and gesture as if he’s overflowing with energy and putting on a constant performance. And as for his eccentricity, this connects with what’s shown above. He’s very much a grand showman with everything he does and rarely cares for what others think of him. And if they have a smart comment or tease, he’ll answer back twice as hard, if he’s strange so be it, at least he’s himself.

Now onto inquisitive, Zoroaster despite his seemingly uncaring and wild personality, he’s very intelligent, often you see about his room besides the tons of parts and gears scattered everywhere are stacks of books. He loves to learn about any and everything, especially when its in relation to magic. He’s a giant nerd about it if I were to be honest, and this profound curiosity helps him so much with his unique magic, but information on that comes later. For now, here’s more information about truthful schemer. Zoroaster is a very truthful person and doesn’t usually (if at all) holds his tongue. Which, is often very sharp, if he thinks something he’ll definitely say it, no matter your position or how much you demand respect he will speak his mind, much less, he never lies, if you ask him a thing, he will tell you the truth no questions asked. And for schemer, he is also very tricky, he’s a wizard, always having some getaway or plan or workaround up his sleeves somewhere. He won’t lie to you, but he never said he’d never have something hidden just in case. Chaotic doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a plan.

Unique Magic: Emerald City:

From Zoroaster he releases a ring of emerald smoke to a certain range depending on how much magic he’s using. Within this ring it’s as if this is his very own city and he decides what goes, basically within this ring, whatever comes to his mind he can spawn it to happen. Want zero gravity, he can do it, want soldiers made of earth, he can do that as well. Zoroaster can do whatever he can imagine within this ring but if someone leaves this area of effect,the creations disappear instantly, as if the effects were noting but a mere illusion.

Backstory:

Zoroaster grew up among a family of liars, thieves, swindlers, and illusionists, robbing people of their money and livelihoods with lies and falsehoods. They taught him the business and tried to force the tradition on him. But to Zoroaster he always hated it, he never agreed to this way of doing things, He saw people crushed and destroyed by these deals and his family just went about as if nothing bad had ever happened. So he in turn went the direct opposite of his family’s ways, he told the truth, exposed them during tricks and instead of them striking against him. or even kicking him out, they just ostracized him. Ignored him, treated him as if he didn’t exist, no one looked at him, spoke to him, touched him or anything. For as far as they were concerned he didn’t exist nor was he apart of the family. Scarring him more than any beating could have, he became paranoid and through that, he ran away.

It’s during this journey of running away, he began his persona of the wizard, a person who could make whatever you required come true if you only asked. While he did have to steal from time to time to survive, he did his best to help people with whatever he had. Most of the time them being thrown away parts and pieces of parts, which gave him his love of building. And while he kept doing his thing, he eventually came across a person he would later call his sister, who taught him how to use magic and he in return taught her how to fight due to her sheltered life.

Trivia:

His name is one of the many middle names Oscar Diggs(The Wizard of Oz) has, specifically its the first of the many

The reason his name is so long is a reference to the wizard”s long name: Oscar Zoroaster Phadrig Isaac Norman Henkle Emmannuel Ambroise Diggs

Zoroaster is the wizard inverted, whereas the wizard had no magic, Zoroaster has phenomenal amounts of magic at his disposal. And he also doesn’t lie to people

Zoroaster did keep a few things from the wizard, most notably he kept how the wizard often answered people’s requests if they came to him. And he loves to build machines and weave magic into them. Oh and he does have a top hat but he doesn’t wear it much, Crowley alone ruined his liking of top hats

Zoroaster is Ramshackle’s official dorm leader, but Yuu is still prefect over it. Though this was more due to Crowley losing a bet with the new dorm head where Crowley now has to address him by his full name for a month, and Yuu has to allow Yuu to stay within the dorm if he lost.

Zoroaster often roasts or insults Crowley and even has a gracious counter for how many time the headmaster has said the word. And he threatens him that the more he says the word, the more times he’s gonna hit him with his cane

Crowley reminds Zoro too much of his family at times so the headmaster easily gets under his skin

Before he came to the academy, his cane was what he used to regulate his magic and his blot, the cane’s handle held a crystal within it and often times during school you often see him using it in conjunction to his pen.

Zoroaster”s best friend or rather sister as he would call her, is based on the goodwitch from the wizard of oz

Once he started going to NRC he reopened his business so to speak, and allowed people to come to his dorm room in case they needed to request something of him. Though this probably left him and Azul have a strained dynamic since he is doing Azul’s thing but for free for the most part

the other day I was talking to a friend and I said something like “the dream quest of unknown kadath, much like other epic fantasy of its type, honestly reads like someone’s rpg campaign that just went completely off the rails.” this is true.* because I have absolutely nothing better to do in quarantine, i have gone through the entire novel and empirically determined what rpg class randolph carter would be (sheet included). you’re welcome.

*inb4 “but el there’s only one protagonist”: I’ve played one-on-one d&d before and it can ABSOLUTELY work and be completely delightful, so hush.

GROUND RULES

I’m using 5th edition d&d, because it’s the system I’m most familiar with. stay tuned for the sequel, where I do this all over again but with pathfinder.

I’m also using UA stuff + some of the new things from explorer’s guide to wildemount, because dunamancy is very thematically lovecraftian.

carter is very clearly a seasoned adventurer in this story. textually, he’s only the fourth human to ever venture to unknown Kadath; additionally, “being old in the land of dream he counted on many useful memories and devices to aid him.” with such qualifications in mind, let’s go ahead and make him level 20. this is, after all, the sort of nonsense high-level PCs get up to— challenging gods and the like.

RACE: human, obviously. let’s go variant human, both to reflect his oddball nature & to pick up a 1st level feat.

BACKGROUND: this one’s a bit trickier. according to Lovecraft he’s a resident of Beacon Hill in the waking world, the most upper-class neighborhood of Boston, so let’s say he’s got the noble background.

ALIGNMENT: an interesting question! carter isn’t exactly your standard fantasy hero, and he’s not really out for anyone but himself. he demonstrates a clear willingness to allow other people to come to harm in pursuit of his goals, though he himself never actually harms anyone for any reason other than self defense. but he’s interpersonally kind, and clearly doesn’t actually want anyone to get hurt. let’s say true neutral.

ABILITY SCORES

strength: not his best ability score, though he does seem to be fairly athletic when it’s absolutely needed. let’s make this a 10.

dexterity: carter is fast on his feet, nimble, and clearly good at feats of escape, which he pulls off several times in the text. let’s make this his highest score, at a 20.

constitution: he’s not especially tough. another 10.

intelligence: carter speaks several languages and knows a great deal about the history and culture of the Dreamlands. when he can’t talk his way out of trouble, he tends to reason his way out. let’s make this pretty high, though not as high as his charisma— a 16.

wisdom: this one’s a bit tricky. while he’s relatively perceptive and skilled at things that depend on wisdom, he doesn’t seem to have a ton in the way of common sense, and (as demonstrated by his encounter with the merchant in dylath-leen) his insight is absolutely abysmal. let’s make this a 12.

charisma: carter’s pretty sociable with just about every creature he encounters on his travels; people seem to like him, and he has friends all over. additionally, he’s an excellent liar, and quite persuasive, when simple likeability doesn’t get him where he needs to go. let’s make this an 18.

SKILLS

survival: carter clearly knows his way around the natural world.

“Carter detoured at the proper place, and heard behind him the frightened fluttering of some of the more timid zoogs. He had known they would follow him, so he was not disturbed; for one grows accustomed to the anomalies of these prying creatures. It was twilight when he came to the edge of the wood, and the strengthening glow told him it was the twilight of morning.”

deception: when carter can’t get his way through persuasion, he’s more than happy to lie, and quite skilled at it too.

“Then Carter did a wicked thing, offering his guileless host so many draughts of the moon-wine which the zoogs had given him that the old man became irresponsibly talkative.”

“For a week the strange seamen lingered in the taverns and traded in the bazaars of Celephaïs, and before they sailed Carter had taken passage on their dark ship, telling them that he was an old onyx-miner and wishful to work in their quarries.”

religion: carter displays an impressive knowledge of the workings of both the gods of the dreamlands and the outer gods (though the latter might actually be better classified as an arcana skill, now that i think about it).

“Now the use of all this in finding the gods became at once apparent to Carter. It is known that in disguise the younger among the Great Ones often espouse the daughters of men, so that around the borders of the cold waste wherein stands Kadath the peasants must all bear their blood. This being so, the way to find that waste must be to see the stone face on Ngranek and mark the features; then, having noted them with care, to search for such features among living men. Where they are plainest and thickest, there must the gods dwell nearest; and whatever stony waste lies back of the villages in that place must be that wherein stands Kadath.”

“He knew, however, that no beings as nearly human as these would dare approach the ultimate nighted throne of the daemon Azathoth in the formless central void.”

“[...] for he knew from old tales that the Great Ones’ castle atop unknown Kadath is of onyx.”

“And they sang many songs and told many tales, shewing such strange knowledge of the olden days and the habits of gods that Carter could see they held many latent memories of their sires the Great Ones.”

“Carter surmised from old tales that he was indeed come to that most dreadful and legendary of all places, the remote and prehistoric monastery wherein dwells uncompanioned the high-priest not to be described, which wears a yellow silken mask over its face and prays to the Other Gods and their crawling chaos Nyarlathotep.”

investigation: in the taverns of dylath-leen and elsewhere, carter shows a remarkable facility for collecting useful information.

“Meanwhile he did not fail to seek through the haunts of far travellers for any tales they might have concerning Kadath in the cold waste or a marvellous city of marble walls and silver fountains seen below terraces in the sunset.”

history: same principle as arcana, really; a huge chunk of the information we get about the dreamlands comes with the mention that carter himself knows all this.

"[Carter] recognised the templed terraces of Zar, abode of forgotten dreams; the spires of infamous Thalarion, that daemon-city of a thousand wonders where the eidolon Lathi reigns; the charnal gardens of Xura, land of pleasures unattained, and the twin headlands of crystal, meeting above in a resplendent arch, which guard the harbour of Sona-Nyl, blessed land of fancy.”

“The dead temples on the mountains were so placed that they could have glorified no wholesome or suitable gods, and in the symmetries of the broken columns there seemed to lurk some dark and inner meaning which did not invite solution. And what the structure and proportions of the olden worshippers could have been, Carter steadily refused to conjecture.”

“At last far below him he saw faint lines of grey and ominous pinnacles which he knew must be the fabled Peaks of Thok.”

“And Carter knew right well what they must be, for legend tells of only one such twain. They were the changeless guardians of the Great Abyss, and these dark ruins were in truth primordial Sarkomand.“

perception: despite his consistent failure to notice when people are lying to or tricking him, carter’s fairly observant of everything else.

“He noticed that these cottages [on the moon] had no windows, and thought that their shape suggested the huts of [the Inuit].*”

nature: concordant with his apparent skill in surviving in the world, carter is quite good at recognizing different natural phenomena.

“As the coast drew nearer, and the hideous stench of that city grew stronger, he saw upon the jagged hills many forests, some of whose trees he recognised as akin to that solitary moon-tree in the enchanted wood of earth, from whose sap the small brown zoogs ferment their peculiar wine.”

“They were not any birds or bats known elsewhere on earth or in dreamland, for they were larger than elephants and had heads like a horse’s. Carter knew that they must be the shantak-birds of ill rumour, and wondered no more what evil guardians and nameless sentinels made men avoid the boreal rock desert.”

persuasion: people tend to like carter quite a lot, and he excels at getting his way without resorting to violence.

“The captain, after landing, made Carter a guest in his own small house on the shore of Yath where the rear of the town slopes down to it; and his wife and servants brought strange toothsome foods for the traveller’s delight.”

“After much persuasion the ghoul consented to guide his guest inside the great wall of the gugs’ kingdom.”

“And all through that second day he made progress in knowing the men of the ship, getting them little by little to talk of their cold twilight land, of their exquisite onyx city, and of their fear of the high and impassable peaks beyond which Leng was said to be.”

“The ghoul that was Pickman glibbered gravely with its fellows, and in the end Carter was offered far more than he had at most expected.“

athletics: despite his apparently mediocre strength score, carter’s rather good at feats of athleticism (running long distances, climbing, etc)

“But there was a way, and he saw it in due season. Only a very expert dreamer could have used those imperceptible foot-holds, yet to Carter they were sufficient.”

“For hours he climbed with aching arms and blistered hands, seeing again the grey death-fire and Thok’s uncomfortable pinnacles. At last he discerned above him the projecting edge of the great crag of the ghouls, whose vertical side he could not glimpse; and hours later he saw a curious face peering over it as a gargoyle peers over a parapet of Notre Dame.”

“Once he thought he heard the hoofbeats of the frightened beast, and doubled his speed from this encouragement. He was covering miles, and little by little the way was broadening in front till he knew he must soon emerge on the cold and dreaded desert to the north.”

acrobatics: the multiple times over the course of the story carter falls from great distances, he manages to land on his feet. additionally, he’s apparently an accomplished climber, so make of that what you will.

stealth: as one might expect from a character who’s so used to going at problems slantwise, carter is very good at sneakery.

“There was one chance that Carter might be able to steal through that twilight realm of circular stone towers at an hour when the giants would be all gorged and snoring indoors, and reach the central tower with the sign of Koth upon it, which has the stairs leading up to that stone trap-door in the enchanted wood.”

“Carter allowed his curiosity to conquer his fear, and crept forward again instead of retreating. Once in crossing an open street he wriggled worm-like on his stomach, and in another place he had to rise to his feet to avoid making a noise among heaps of fallen marble. But always he succeeded in avoiding discovery, so that in a short time he had found a spot behind a titan pillar whence he could watch the whole green-litten scene of action. “

FEATS

lucky: what it says on the tin; carter’s luck is extraordinary. multiple times during the novel, he’s saved from certain doom by a stroke of happy chance.

observant: a huge part of the text’s travelogue sense comes from carter noticing specific and responding to specific elements of his surroundings.

mobile: again, carter’s very quick and hard to pin down. sort of an extension of the idea behind giving him athletics proficiency, & one of his class features.

LANGUAGES

goblin: “Carter, however, had no fear; for he was an old dreamer and had learnt [the Zoogs’] fluttering language and made many a treaty with them.” small carnivorous pack-hunting creatures with a primitive society and language of their own sound pretty goblin-like to me.

celestial: when he reads them, carter is "disappointed by [...] the meagre help to be found in the Pnakotic Manuscripts and the Seven Cryptical Books of Hsan.” since these texts all concern the gods of the Dreamlands, we can safely assume they’re written in celestial.

undercommon: “A man he had known in Boston—a painter of strange pictures with a secret studio in an ancient and unhallowed alley near a graveyard—had actually made friends with the ghouls and had taught him to understand the simpler part of their disgusting meeping and glibbering.” honestly, what is the vale of pnath if not the underdark? it’s got cities and everything!

MISC. PROFICIENCIES

vehicles (water): “The sea party, commanded by Carter, boarded the anchored galley and rowed out to meet the undermanned galley of the newcomers.” not sure where he learned to sail— the miskatonic crew team, maybe, or summers on the cape?

thieves’ tools: never shows up in canon, but come on, obviously he’s got some trap-disarming/lock-picking ability!

CLASS

BARD 11 / COLLEGE OF LORE

we know from the paratext of his narrative that carter is an artist— he’s a novelist, and a talented one at that. even here, though, his relevance and abilities are in large part due to his creative capabilities as a dreamer. it’s not exactly traditional barding, but I’d argue that what is a bard if not someone whose creativity reshapes the world? whether that takes place through the medium of music or just through the raw power of imagination is more a question of internal distinction than anything.

the college of lore is all about the seeking after of knowledge and beauty, forbidden or not. these bards are absolutely focused on the pursuit of truth at any and all costs, sometimes to their own demise. if there’s a better college for a doomed dreamer on a quixotic quest after something fleeting and beautiful, I don’t know it. here are some of the places in the text carter acts particularly college of lore-y:

“Carter felt that the lore of so far a traveller must not be overlooked.”

“At last, having gained all the information he was likely to gain in the taverns and public places of Baharna...”

“It was from these children of the exiled hill-people that Carter had heard the best tales about Ngranek when searching through Baharna’s ancient taverns.“

“And as that music grew, the shantak raised its ears and plunged ahead, and Carter likewise bent to catch each lovely strain. It was a song, but not the song of any voice. Night and the spheres sang it, and it was old when space and Nyarlathotep and the Other Gods were born. [...] Faster flew the shantak, and lower bent the rider, drunk with the marvels of strange gulfs, and whirling in the crystal coils of outer magic. Then came too late the warning of the evil one, the sardonic caution of the daemon legate who had bidden the seeker beware the madness of that song.“

ROGUE 9 / SCOUT

we mentioned above carter’s clear facility with the natural world, but more than that, his way of confronting (or not) the various sticky situations in which he finds himself is decidedly roguish. he sneaks about rather than plunge into a fight he knows he can’t win; he enlists other people to fight for him; he’s profoundly strategic about what conflicts does and doesn’t engage with, martial or otherwise. rogues are all about fighting smart, not hard; scouts in particular are all about self-sufficiency and solitary capability. I was actually torn between scout or inquisitive for his roguish archetype, considering as inquisitives are very much focused on detection, perception, and investigation— but ultimately inquisitives are far, far better at reading people than carter is, to the extent that one of their core class features relies on it. so, scout it is!

SPELLS

and here we get into somewhat trickier territory, because our dear protagonist is not himself especially magical. I’m taking a little bit of liberty here for the sake of plausibility as a player character. we know from the text that carter is able to manipulate the world around him, if only subconsciously, because he’s a gifted dreamer. I tried to reflect that idea in his spell list, giving him a mix of enchantment and transmutation spells, with a few psychic damage and divination tricks thrown in. an important note: I can’t imagine carter casting spells like a regular bard, playing music or reciting poetry or giving a speech; instead, I imagine it would look a lot more like how your average sorcerer does things, re-writing reality through sheer force of will.

cantrips: minor illusion, mind sliver, mage hand, prestidigitation

1st level (4 slots): charm person, sleep, identify, longstrider, speak with animals

2nd level (3 slots): enlarge/reduce, enhance ability, suggestion, wristpocket

3rd level (3 slots): blink, clairvoyance, psionic blast, tongues

4th level (3 slots): charm monster, polymorph

5th level (2 slots): commune, legend lore

6th level (1 slot): eyebite

Chapter 5: Fear and Loathing in Hawkins

(( Before I begin, I want to say that I found nowhere Billy’s canon birthday, so I’m just using my best friend’s as a reference.

“You did it, babe! You did it! Congrats!” I jumped up and down, hugging Billy as he got 87% for his 5th test and his grades kept getting better and better. “At this rate you’re gonna get an A, not just a B!” I grinned widely, taking his test and putting it in my archives portfolio. “Say, are you tryina steal my scholarship, love~?” I teased with a poor excuse of a smirk. “I did it thanks to your help, Kitten. And thanks to you, we got an A+ at the project, so there’s only the exams to take and we’re settled for life.” he chuckled, leaning in to steal a kiss. “Do you…Do you wanna go back to Cali? It is one of the states we can study in with our scholarship, and the Uni is super close to the beach.” I jumped on the desk, dangling my feet back and forth, imagining how it’d be. “If that gives me an excuse to see you in a bathing suit, then sure thing.” he laughed, sitting down on the chair in front of me and putting his head on my thighs. “So soft…” he muttered, closing his eyes. “I’ve never been to the beach before. Could you teach me how to swim?” I asked, my eyes gleaming with stars imagining the cool water and the hot sand. “Anything for you, babe. It’ll be fun, I assure ya.” he smiled, most likely imagining as well. “Well, there’s only like half a year until we go there. It’s already April 1st and the exams are in June…Have you thought about what you wanted to study?” I asked, playing with his hair soothingly. “Mhh…I was thinking of Engineering…I’m no genius like you, babe, but I ain’t stupid. I think I could handle that.” he muttered, almost as if he didn’t want to think about the future. “That sounds lovely! Engineers are very well paid and nicely seen in society! We’ll be so cool together!” I clapped a bit in excitement, earning a chuckle. “You’re so adorable when you’re happy.” he smiled slight, looking up at me.

Things were looking promising for us and everything seemed like a real life Nirvana…But as usual, the good stuff doesn’t last too long and there’s always something that completely ruins everything and reminds you that life is cruel and maybe you shouldn’t trust anyone…Maybe not even yourself.

When I went to put some books in the locker, I notice something shiny, which proved to be Billy’s ‘K’ necklace that I gifted him at Christmas, only, the latch was broken. I wonder how did it get here…? I thought nobody else knew my locker combination. I put in the necklace in my pocket and closed it, making a mental note to change it soon before anything weird happens again and I walk to my next class. On the way there, I see Billy on the bench with two girls on either side of him, shamelessly flirting and he seemed to be enjoying it. Huh…

“Hey…Billy…” I go in front of him, ignoring the glares from the girls. “How are you?” “Pretty damn good, to be fair.” he smirked up at me. “Why you askin’?” “Uhm…I found this in my locker. Thought you might want it back…But the latch is broken.” I explained, showing him the necklace, and yet, he was barely paying any attention. “Oh, yeah, I took it off for Basketball practice today and then forgot where I put it. Can ya repair it for me?” he asked, leaning back on the seat. “Yeah…Sure. See you later.” I muttered, walking away to the class, holding the necklace tightly in my fist, a very dark feeling overflooding my heart.

Just…What the hell is going on…?

This kept repeating more and more with each day, sometimes outright ignoring me, or giving me empty answers, going to stay with his 'friends’ and so on…And I kept asking myself what did I do wrong. I kept trying to call him every night, but he either ignored it, or picked up the phone and then closing the call the next second. And trying to talk to him at highschool seemed to be close to impossible nowadays… But at least Nancy, Jonathan and Steve were okay with me staying with them, and they made me feel slightly better. After all, it was nice to have friends…I guess.

I kept myself busy with studying and I didn’t even realise that I didn’t speak to the kids in quite a long time. It’s just…Everything was making me get in such a Vertigo state that I forgot that I was alive.

It all just felt like a never-ending nightmare from which I found no escape… Until April 12th. Billy’s birthday.

It was a fine Friday and I was going to put his gift in his locker, then give him the necklace I managed to repair. I was looking down, walking down the corridor, holding the neatly wrapped package in one hand, while in the other I gripped the necklace really hard, until I saw a sight that made me wish I wouldn’t have woken up that day.

Billy and Tina were making out like there was no tomorrow, her pressed on his locker.

My face was shocked, but my heart felt stabbed and betrayed more than Caesar with Brutus. I let out a breath of amusement and disbelief, making him realise someone was there, and upon seeing me, he pushed Tina off him and tried walking towards me. I just shook my head in disgust, throwing the package in the nearest trash room and letting the necklace fall to the ground, not realising that I kept gripping it so hard that the sharp edges broke skin and let a few droplets of blood escape.

“Don’t even dare get closer to me. I don’t want to ever see you again. You’re nothing more than a liar, and fuck, your asshole of a father was right about you. Hell, maybe everyone was right about you. You’re just a fucking jerk and a whore with no morals or cares in this world. I regret the day I got to talk to you. I was so wrong to trust someone again…” I gritted my teeth before rushing out of the building, wanting to drive back home already. “Wait! Kitten, wait up! I can explain! It’s not as it looks like!” he tried to yell after me, but I turned around with such a poisonous glare, despite tears already escaping my eyes, that it made him rooted to the spot. “Explain WHAT, Hargrove?! That you cheated on me when you promised you’d never leave me? That you betrayed me, when you promised never to hurt me?! Really? What about 'Respect and Responsibility’? What about 'I’m a man of my words’? Are all of those lies too? Tsk…You’re just a spoiled brat, that’s it! Never speak to me again! And don’t call me Kitten! My name is Katrina Black, a name you will never get to speak again in your life!” I sneered at him, about to leave, but then I remembered the accessory around my neck, which made my roll my eyes in annoyance and go in front of him. “Oh, and one more thing…Give this to your next hook up, so they’ll feel good that you claimed them.” I growled, ripping off the necklace from my neck and hitting his chest with it. “Wait, don’t do that, you’ll get hurt!” he tried to say before seeing me rip the necklace, but it was too late. “Not more than what you did to me.” I said in a low voice before getting on my motorbike and stopping by the nearest market on my way home.“Happy Birthday, fuckass!”

As soon as I got home, I changed in only my AC/DC Tshirt and went to sit on the bathroom floor with the cassette next to me, putting music at max volume and staring at the many bottles of vodka and cigarette packs surrounding me. Well…Here goes nothing…

5 hours later, my head was spinning like crazy, the bathroom was smokier than London’s great smog and I kept screaming the lyrics to the songs that kept playing on repeat, not even realising that anymore, nor that tears kept wetting my face. I was a mess because honestly, I really couldn’t take this betrayal. I hate liars so much…

After I finished the 2nd Vodka bottle, I got up somehow and wanted to get a 3rd, but the phone ringing in my room made me groan in annoyance as I gripped the walls and fell on the bed, picking up the phone.

“Ye…? Who dere?” I slurred out, not even sure what I was saying was coherent or not. “Hey, Kat? Are you alright? I heard what happened today with that jerk and…Well, he went livid. He kept beating up anyone who dared to say anything about you…It was quite the sight.” Nancy’s sweet and worried voice called out, making me sigh. “Ye, ’m fine, j'st super drunk. Fuck tha’ asshole. He ain’t worth shit. F'kin cheat'r.” I managed to blurt out, making Nancy sigh as well. “Do you want me to come over and take care of you? Or I can call Jonathan or Steve if you feel more comfortable with them? I know you and Max were very close, but at this hour, I doubt she’d be able to come over…” she tried to suggest, but I only shook my head, forgetting that she can’t see it. “’S fine, Nance, thanks a lot fo’ worryin’ 'bout me. Appreciate it. I’ll be fine, ’m jus’ super pissed off. T’ll go 'way soon.” I declared, clearing my throat. “Okay, Kat…I hope you know what you’re doing. Please take care of yourself…Sweet dreams.” she told me before she hung up, making me groan as I put back the phone and went to get the vodka bottle and sit back in the bathroom. “Mhh…Wonder how long till I pass out…” I muttered, forcing myself to open the 3rd bottle.

It was now Monday, and please, nobody ever leave me next to alcohol and cigarettes 'cause I swear to God I’m gonna go crazy. I puked so much that I thought my guts were out and my lungs exploded from the smoke. And the fact that I’m still exhausted like hell was understandable.

Everything went as it usually did, classes and then lunch, where for some reason or another, Billy decided to sit down next to me, making me groan and leave without a word. Of course he followed me to the courtyard, where he just had to stop me and spin me around to look at him.

“First of all, what the hell do you want?! Secondly, who gave you the right to TOUCH me?” I yanked my wrist from his hand and glared at him. “Can we please talk?” he tried to say, but I only tsked in annoyance and looked away. “Why would we? We have nothing to talk about. You fucked up, it’s all on you. I’m leaving.” I shrugged, ready to leave, but he stopped me again. “I…I’m sorry. I fucked up, you’re right. I hurt you, I broke my promises and I did exactly what I promised I wouldn’t do. You didn’t deserve any of that.” he confessed, looking at me. “Funny you should say that…Considering that you’re almost quoting what I said a few days ago…When you were too busy fucking Tina.” I scoffed, giving him a sarcastic smile. “Yes, I know, I fucked up, and I can’t ever ask you to forgive me. I deserved the phone call from two days ago where you cursed me into oblivion-” he started, making my eyes go wide in shock. “I did WHAT?!” I asked in horror, making him look confused at me. “You…Don’t remember that? It lasted for about an hour. You were crying, cursing and insulting me. It really broke my heart…” he muttered, looking away, but my face of horror was still there. “Fuck, I must have been really drunk to remember talking to Nancy, but not calling you to randomly curse you…Great.” I slapped my face in annoyance. “You hate alcohol.” he stated, but I only shrugged. “I hate cigarettes too, but that didn’t stop me from going full auto-destruct mode for 3 days before getting back to normal when I didn’t care about anyone. Bye, Hargrove, I have nothing more to say to you.” I turned to leave, but for the millionth time, I got stopped. “On the phone…You said…You said that you loved me. Did you, really…?” he barely breathed, making me stop dead in my tracks. “What, you thought I’d stay with you out of pity or something? 'Cause I felt lonely by myself? OF COURSE I DID, DUMBASS! Use that stupid brain of yours once in a while and maybe you’ll answer your own questions!” I threw my hands in the air in exasperation. “You…You also said you wanted to beat the hell out of me…So, you deserve to let your anger out on me. Do what will make you feel better.” he said in resignation, looking at the ground with a pitiful look. “I deserve everything and I will take anything. I hurt you…And I really suck.” he said in such a godamn pitiful voice that in made anger boil in me like never before. “What the FUCK do you want?! Do you want my pity? Do you want me to forgive you? THAT’S NEVER GONNA HAPPEN! You just want to fuck, that’s all you want! I was always just another girl on your stupid list, just another name and another challenge! I HATE YOU!” I turned to slap him, but…But just as my hand was about to collide with his face, I stopped and I started shaking and crying. “Fuck’s sake…I can’t do it…” I muttered with a sigh as I gritted my teeth in annoyance. “You can’t hurt me even now, after how much I hurt you…You still love me, and all I did was throw away your love like a spoiled brat…The truth is, I…I realised my feelings for you…I realised how much I care about you, and it was all so foreign and intense that…I got scared. And I tried to make those feelings go away by doing the same things that have been shielding me for all these years.” he explained, holding my hand as he made me touch his face, leaning into my touch. “Shut up…J-Just…Shut up! I don’t want to hear any more excuses! We’re done for, anyway! Even if I wanted to, I couldn’t possible trust you again. You…You just…You can’t even imagine the damage that you’ve done to me.” I shook my head, feeling my heart in pain like never before, making me take back my hand and jog away, having spotted Nancy and Jonathan going in the highschool to their next class. I needed a distraction, and studying/doodling always helped. “Hey, Kat, how are you holding up?” Nancy asked worriedly, hugging me. “I’m fine, all cool. Ready for Physics, I guess.” I shrugged, trying to play it cool. “Oh, I remembered. Next weekend there’s gonna be some charity party or something at our highschool and all students are asked to sign up and participate with anything interesting they’ve got. Mostly singing, as far as I know, but it works. Wanna go? I have to go there to take pictures for the event, so I can get you girls really good seats.” Jonathan suggested, making me and Nance look at each other and smiling simultaneously, and clearly agreeing. “Sure, that should be fun, right? I’m looking forward to it.” I smiled at them, feeling quite better, as if I finally belonged somewhere. “Hey, guys, hold up!” a familiar voice called out, making us 3 turn around and spot Steve. “Hey, so, uh…This weekend our basketball team has the 2nd last match and I wanted to ask if you’d come cheer on us. It will help a lot if I were to see some familiar faces…” he chuckled awkwardly. “I don’t know, Steve…With that git, Hargrove there, Kat might feel bad…” Nancy mumbled, looking at me, but I only grinned at them. “Nahh, who cares about him? My friend needs support? Then, Harrington, I will be there to support you. Just…Don’t steal my book again, please.” I winked at him, making the both of us laugh. “Thanks a lot, Kat, I really appreciate it. Jonathan, Nancy? Are you coming?” he asked as he put his arm around my shoulder. “Yeah, sure, man, why not.” Jonathan shrugged and we all agreed and made plans for these two following weekends.

Should be fun, huh?

“Okay, Steve, so like, how do you want me to cheer? 'KING STEVE!’ or 'GO! GO! HARRINGTON!' ? ” I laughed as I rubbed his shoulders, the anxiety radiating off him. “That’s bloody awful, Kat, what the hell.” he grinned in disbelief, making me laugh at his reaction. “Okay, okay, I’ll just read my book until I see everyone screaming and I will do the same, how does that sound?” I tried to hype him up for the match the best I could. “Just…Just act natural and do what you want, okay?” he rolled his eyes and shook his arms a bit. “I have faith in you, Steve. GO FUCK THEM UP!” we high fived and I jogged on the bleachers, almost missing Billy’s lingering eyes on me and my friendly actions with Steve…Almost, being the key point. “Think they’ll win?” Jonathan asked, making me shrug. “I honestly have no idea what this game is about, but for everyone’s good, I hope they do.” I declared, paying attention to the game as soon as the first whistle blew.

It was a bit difficult properly paying attention and following the game since I honestly had no idea what was going on, but what I noticed was that Billy wasn’t really the same, while Steve was energetic like never before and managed to easily score like 4 times.

The points were tied and our team scored very rarely, which made me mess around a bit with the game, making sure Steve scored every time he threw the ball in the basket, or that the enemy team would randomly trip.

Hey, we won, what a surprise! Time to celebrate!

“KING STEVE! KING STEVE SCORED A GAZILLION TIMES! GO, KING STEVE!” I laughed as I jump-hugged him as a congratulations, but he only shook his head, grinning. “Thanks, Kat. Thanks a lot for the help.” he smirked, looking at me with a mischievous look in his eyes. “What ever could you mean by that, Harrington?” I chuckled, looking away. “I’ve been around you, El and a bunch of monsters enough to know when the ball moves anti-Physics law.” he laughed, ruffling my hair. “Jerk, not my hair! And come on, you played really well! What I did was just a bonus!” I tried to fix my hair a bit. “Hey, seeing the enemy team fall like idiots made my confidence boost like never before. I’d have laughed like an idiot if we weren’t mid-game. Come on, I’ll treat you to ice cream.” he proposed. “Oh, I won’t refuse free ice-cream! Go take a shower and I’ll take Jonathan and Nancy to the car, okay?” I asked, earning a nod. “Nancy! Steve is getting us free ice-cream! Let’s go!” I waved the two over, completely ignoring Billy coming over and looking crestfallen. “Did you just call him King Steve?” Billy’s soft voice asked from behind, making me turn at him with a bored look. “Yeah, I did, 'cause he won the game.” I shrugged, waiting for Nancy and Jonathan to come over. “Do you like him?” he asked again, his voice barely audible, somehow heartbroken. “No, we’re just friends…Not that it should concern you in any way. You see…He’s not a fuckass like you…Well, not anymore, that is. Bye now, free ice cream is waiting me and my friends.” I smiled fakely at him before hooking my arm to Nancy’s and going towards Steve’s car, where I got so much ice cream that I thought my brain would freeze, making the other 3 laugh at me.

We had such a nice time together, celebrating Hawkins’ victory and not having any worry in our heads… Except, maybe, the fact that Billy’s broken voice kept echoing in my head, making my heart cry…Stupidly weak heart…

It’s been already about 3 weeks without letting Billy talk to me more than necessary and I hate to admit to myself that it just keeps hurting more and more seeing him going down the way of self-destruction like never before. But tonight I was supposed to have fun with my 3 friends, right? Watch random students pretend they have talent and everyone to make fun of them 'cause they can’t sing, dance, or do anything really.

One guy completely butchered one of Michael Jackson’s dances, a girl hit all the wrong keys while playing a Beethoven piece another guy sounded strangled while attempting to sing “Stayin’ Alive” by Bee Gees… Okay, I mean, some of them were actually pretty good, I won’t deny, but I and Steve loved to make fun of the fails…It was just TOO hilarious!

It was all nice and giggles, until a very familiar instrumental started playing in the background, making me gasp in shock. “No…Way…” I barely managed to breathe out before snapping my head in the direction of the stage…

And there he was.

Billy Hargrove stood on the stage, holding the microphone with both hands, looking down, before up to scan the audience, before somehow managing to spot me, and we connected, neither of us daring to break the eye contact.

And he began to sing, in a soft voice like never before, earning hundreds of cheers and screams of excitement and adoration.

But I knew better than anyone else what this meant.

He wasn’t here for charity, or to impress anyone with his singing skills…

He was here to apologise.

He was here to try to reach my heart just like he used to before, and try to win me over again.

Time, it needs time to win back your love again I will be there, I will be there

His voice was sweet and warm yet sorrowful, like that of an angel, and I could feel dry sobs threatening to escape. “Kat, are you okay? What happened?” Steve asked, concerned at my sudden change of behaviour, but I wasn’t sure I could trust my voice much. “He…He’s…Apologising…And saying that he loves me…” I managed to choke out before covering my mouth, trying to control myself.

He didn’t break eye contact even for a split of second, and I didn’t even realise tears were already going down my face until Nancy pulled me into her arms and offered me her napkin.

Fight, babe, I’ll fight to win back your love again I will be there, I will be there

“Go closer, it’s going to be okay. It will be okay, Kat.” Nancy reassured me, patting my head, but I was a bit scared that my legs would fail me from the intense emotions bursting in my heart.

Clutching my heart, I took a sharp breath and stood, holding the banister with dear life, afraid that I might collapse, as he started smiling, seeing me approach.

If we go again all the way from the start I would try to change the things that killed our love Your pride has built a wall, so strong that I can’t get through Is there really no chance to start once again?

I quickly managed to climb down the stairs and started walking towards the stage, and as soon as those last words were so lovingly dragged out, I started crying, hugging myself as my heart was completely weak for him and him alone, and he extended his arm out toward me slightly, proving once again that he was trying to reach out me and my heart.

I started smiling and looking at him with such adoration on my face that it seemed to give him some sort of confidence as well to keep on going.

I couldn’t contain myself and I started mouthing the lyrics to the song along with him, which made him put his hand to where his heart would be, in a way to match my action.

I nodded at him with a soft grin on my face, telling him that yes, I forgive him, and that I could feel he was being genuine with each word he’d sing and each emotion he’d express so openly.

By this time, I wasn’t sure if I just wanted him to stop singing so I’d be able to hold him close to me, or if I wanted him to keep singing because oh god, it did so many things to my heart that I couldn’t believe it was me who felt all these things.

He kept singing, so much force and emotion in his voice, that I started wiping the tears from my eyes as I kept repeating the same lyrics with him, confessing our undying love for each other over and over again.

The song ended soon, making everyone stand up and cheer wildly, but he only had one thing in mind- He did a fast bow before walking down the stage and throwing his arms around me and holding me close to his chest, as tight as he could without leaving me breathless.

“I love you so much, Kat. I’m so sorry for letting trauma get the best of me. I was weak, I was a shithead and I hurt you. I was scared. I didn’t even realise that I turned back to my back habits until I saw you again…When I got the courage to actually look AT you, not THROUGH you. I don’t know what I was so scared about…What I still am so scared about…Maybe I am afraid that I will turn into my father and I will drive you away, like it made my mum leave me…I’ve been so afraid of fucking up…That I did without realising…I’m sorry, Kat, I really am. And I love you with all my heart.” he confessed, letting only one stray tear fall down his cheek, his eyes red from trying not to let his emotions get the best of him in front of the whole highschool. “I love you, Billy. I forgive you…And…Call me Kitten. I’m not leaving you.” I smiled softly, wiping away that tear before kissing him gently, before pulling away, earning a happy, almost choked out laugh from him. “I really don’t deserve someone like you…” he shook his head, but I paid that no mind, and instead, I trailed my fingers down his face, down his neck and to his chest, touching the 'K’ necklace that shined so beautifully. “I thought you’d throw it away.” I managed to say barely above a whisper. “No…Truth it, I started hyperventilating that day in the locker room, alone, thinking about everything going on, and I was suffocating. I tried to take it off carefully…But that didn’t work very well. I’m sorry I lied…I was embarrassed to tell you the truth.” he admitted, biting his lip. “It’s okay…I forgive you. I wasn’t expecting you to do what you did today…I…I never realised I could feel so many things at once…I thought I was gonna faint or something…It’s…It’s so weird…But I wouldn’t have it any other way. I appreciate the effort and sentiment you put in everything…Even if it took you quite a long while.” I let out an amused breath, making him take out something from his pocket…The 'B’ necklace. “Do you…Do you want it back…? I fixed the latch.” he asked softly, putting it on as soon as I put my hair on the side. “It’s funny, don’t you think? We keep breaking things, but we repair them for each other. We’re a bunch of idiots.” I laughed, making him put his forehead to mind. “Maybe from now on we’ll only fix each other and nothing bad will happen. I know I promised before, but this time, I am a new man and I am not afraid to brave any storm, if I have you by my side. Will you have me back…Kitten?” he smiled at me, making me roll my eyes. “I just said I will, silly! It will be as if none of these bad things happened. And we will be happy. We…We ARE happy.” I grinned, but he shook his head. “No…I hurt you, you shouldn’t forget that. It was my fault. Instead, I will make sure none of that ever happens again and I will focus solely on your happiness…Because Kat, if you are happy, I am happy, and that’s all I need from life. I love you.” he confessed once again, making me bury my face into his chest and hug him tightly. “Billy…Y-You’re doing that thing wh-where you’re stirring t-too many emotions i-in my heart a-and I can’t take it. C-Can you, like, s-slow down? I-I-I’m feeling faint.” I stutter out, hiding my face in his shirt, making him chuckle in amusement and kiss my head. “Oh, baby, you have no idea what YOU do to me every time you’re being so cute and adorable…And only I can make you so flustered. It’s doing lots of things to me and you’ve no idea.” he smirked lightly, but before he could say another thing, he started groaning in annoyance. “Who the fuck thought singing this stupid song was a good idea? Fuck The Police and this song.” he grumbled, making me laugh at his reaction. “Hey, Billy…I’m SO not kissing you on this song!” I grinned in amusement, barely managing to stifle my giggles, both of us having the throwback from the Snow Ball where everyone kept kissing on The Police’s “Every Breath You Take.” “Got me there, babe. And as if the song wasn’t stupid enough, his voice makes it even worse…” he pouted, resting his chin on the top of my head. “I had no idea that was possible…Until now.” I declared, holding him close to me and swinging back and forth to the soft and somehow broken rhythm of the music.

“Billy! Hey, Billy! I’ve got news!” I ran to him, panting, out of breath since I had 0 physical endurance. “Huh? What happened?” he straightened out on the bench, not paying any attention to his stupid buddies anymore. “The exam results JUST appeared! And…Well, hope you don’t mind, but I peeked a tiiiiiny bit at yours before I even looked at mine and…Haha, don’t be mad!” I grinned sheepishly, making him roll his eyes and let out an amused breath. “Okay, Lady Scholarship, I’m sure you got all the good grades and snatched away the Studies Scholarship, right? How much did you get at Biology? 100%? ” he asked with a knowing smirk, making me blush at the confidence he had in me and look down, nodding, the grin on my face never faltering for a second. “That’s my Kitten! See, I told ya! You really need to trust yourself more, you’re a smart babe!” he got up to hug me tightly and kiss me on the lips with much passion. “Okay, okay, enough of this! Now, sit down and let me tell you about your results, okay?” I made him sit down again, trying to look as passive as possible. “Fine, babe, shoot.” he kept bouncing his leg up and down, trying to relax himself, but to no avail. “So, uhm…You got all the good grades…But uhm…At Biology, you didn’t get a B…” I trailed off, making his face fall into complete horror, before realising the smirk on my face that I couldn’t stop. “You got an A, babe. You got 97%! The Scholarship is yours!” This made him and everyone around his jump on their feet and roar in happiness, clapping and cheering for 'King Billy’, he bent down to my level and kissed me with so much passion that I thought my face would be worse than a tomato and that my heart would leap out of my heart from embarrassment, shock and all other emotions at a time. “WE’RE GOING TO CALI, BABY! WHOOOOO!!” he screamed as loud as he could to the sky, feeling like nothing else could go better for him in life. “Yessss! It’s gonna be so cool!! We did it, Billy! We really did it!!” I cheered with him, making him pick me up and wrapping my legs around his waist. “We’re gonna move in together, and it’s gonna be just us and nobody else to pressure or fuck with us. I’m so not letting you go, babe. The things you do to me, Kitten, you’ll never understand.” he smirked as he whispered that against my lips before shamelessly making out with me in front of everyone which made me blush like I was gonna die in the next second, but, well…They’re not gonna see us ever again so…So I just put my arms around his neck, pulling him closer to me and smiling into the kissing. “You’re gonna be the death of me some day, honey.” I said in between kisses, softly and playfully biting his bottom lip, making him smirk widely. “Oh, Kitten, you naughty girl, you’re doing things to me and you are fully aware of that. You’re so lucky I love you.” he confessed before capturing my lips again, with just as much fire as before. “Oh, yeah, I really am lucky~.” I giggled softly, trying to tune out any new person passing by.

“So, uhm…First of all, I wanted to thank all my teachers for being incredible moral, emotional and intellectual supports for me all these years of highschool…I want to thank my friends, Nancy, Jonathan and Steve, for being there for me when I needed them the most…I want to thank a bunch of 13 year olds for accepting me as their Party Nerd Leader…I want to thank my boyfriend, Billy Hargrove, who loves me so much and whom I love endlessly…” I trailed off a bit, looking at Billy, who already did his diploma acceptance speech, as a Scholarship winner, and I smirked widely. “And also, I want to thank all of you for being a bunch of dumbasses and for letting me steal your Scholarship and Loverboy so easily from right in front of you! You suck, guys! Toodles! See you in Cali!” I laughed, taking the diploma from the hands of Mrs. Green and I ran off the stage, jump-hugging Billy and kissing him deeply. “Now, babe, THAT is what I call a real badass speech. I’m so proud of you for showing them who’s the real Queen here.” he smiled proudly at me, kissing my forehead. “WE’RE GOING TO CALI, BABY!” I couldn’t stop radiating with glee, just like a sunshine, and before ending the Graduation ceremony, we all threw our caps into the air and cheered that highschool is finally over.

And the best thing?

Well…

HARRINGTON IS TREATING US TO ICE-CREAM AGAIN!

Blind Gossip: A One Direction Speculations Masterpost

Disclaimer: The analyses contained within this post are all personal, so I’m not claiming to be right in anything I say. I am certainly not Ace and I do not have all of the answers. I did, however, spend a great deal of time organizing and researching in order to put this together, so it is my sincere hope that you enjoy it should you choose to read it.

Welcome! This post will include my own speculations and educated (or maybe not-so-educated) guesses about certain Blind Gossip entries. It is important before you read on that you are aware that I believe Harry and Louis are in a relationship, and will be analyzing these blinds with that belief in mind.

At the end of the day, it’s your choice whether or not you believe any of this. You are welcome to your own opinions and analyses.

Now, before I begin, let’s explore a little bit about Blind Gossip and how it works.

What exactly is Blind Gossip?

Blind Gossip is essentially a celebrity gossip site that is run by the anonymous “Ace.” The stories featured on the sites are called “blinds,” a word derived from the term “blind item.” A blind item is defined as “a news story, usually gossip, in which the details of the matter are reported while the identities of the people involved are not revealed.“ Basically, posting blind items is a way to release information about celebrities/PR stunts without the risk of lawsuits or otherbacklash because no names were used. However, there is normally a plethora of hints provided, which can usually guide the reader to make an educated guess about the subject(s).

The blinds that the site posts cover a wide range of topics (pregnancy rumors, drug addictions, and PR/closeting, to name a few) and their subjects represent a wide range of celebs (athletes, singers, actors, reality show stars, and so on). BG features two types of blinds - solved and unsolved. When posting blind items, Ace normally does so in the form of a “BG12345,” which consists of 5 blind items being presented, one per hour, beginning at a certain time that Ace will often previously announce. Some blinds never get solved (any unsolved blinds are stored in the “uncategorized” category on the site) and are left to forever be a mystery. Those that are solved, however, can be further divided into two types - those that present concrete proof and those that do not. Sometimes Ace will link a major news source reporting on the content of the blind, or present other evidence that proves the solved blind to be true. When this happens, other sources usually pick up the story and it morphs from a rumor into news. Oftentimes, Ace’s blinds are the first to hint at a scandal in a celeb’s life before it even hits the papers. But sometimes (like many of the One Direction blinds) the blind is solved with no real evidence and you have to take Ace’s word for it. Assuming Blind Gossip is truthful on matters that were never concretely proved is pure speculation, andit is crucial to always keep this in mind before one starts taking Ace’s word as gospel.

It is very important to remember that first and foremost, BG is a gossip site. Its entire point is to get hits and make money, whether that is achieved through exposing the truth or concocting/perpetuating lies. This masterpost will serve to organize any and all Blind Gossip entries that may involve certain One Direction members. I will analyze each blind by providing an explanation of any clues that may point to One Direction being the subject(s) of the blind, and which information may signify that the blind is not about them. Clues, you’ll find, can be found both in wordplay and general context. I also provide background for events the blind may be referencing, and try to set a timeframe for any blind that references a specific event/events that happened in the past.

The following blinds have been organized chronologically, and all the titles are linked to their corresponding blinds. On behalf of Ace, I ask that you please do follow the link to read the original blind, in addition to viewing the screenshots I have provided. All credit for any screenshotted blind goes to blindgossip.com.

We’ll begin our journey with the ever-famous (and my personal favorite) “Boy Banders Are Hiding A Secret,” which was posted to the Blind Gossip site on April 5th, 2012.

1. “Boy Banders Are Hiding A Secret“ - April 5th, 2012

A fantastic place to start our journey! This blind has been analyzed to death, but if you’re not familiar with it, here is a list of clues people picked up on that clearly hint at One Direction:

"singing competition show" » X-Factor

stereotypes » The Bad Boy (Zayn), The Baby (Niall), The Nice One (Liam), leaving Harry&Louis to be The Gay Ones

"beautiful young men" » What Makes You Beautiful

"one" mentioned 6 times » One Direction

"one has a beard" » Louis was dating Eleanor, Harry was single

"up all night" » name of debut album

To me, this is still the most believable blind to date. I try to always remain skeptical with these situations, and I would have chalked it all up to coincidence… had Ace not thrown in “up all night.” All the hints add up, and the name of their debut album inserted so cleverly in the text really just seals the deal for me. Out of all the blinds, this would be one I’d place a bet on.

2. “Floating Pics of One Direction Singer” - July 23rd, 2012

I actually have never seen a post about this blind, but that is because I am still relatively new to the One Direction fandom and this was back in 2012.

We don’t even have to speculate that this about 1D because hey look, they tell us right there in the title! Now, as we all know, Harry has been deemed the "womanizer" of the group. So personally, I’d venture to guess that this blind is aimed towards him.

3. “Tease and Announcement“ - October 15th, 2012

So like I was saying, my blog and I weren’t around in 2012 when this was all going down. But this blind, according to my research, freaked some people out because they thought it was about Louis/Eleanor. I’ve also heard that there was a similar collective freak-out when Eleanor was sporting a fancy Forever 21 ring. So yeah, this is clearly a blind that’s going to warrant some freaking.

This article provides us with the fact that he is a "singer," which at least narrows it down a bit.

Some possible hints that were thrown around:

“one hot young singer” » Surprise, One Direction (This is mostly noteworthy because Ace could have just as easily written “He is a hot younger singer;” using “one” just wasn’t necessary and actually makes the word flow a bit awkward.)

2 mentions of ”beautiful” » What Makes You Beautiful, as well asevery single article known to man referring to Louis’ beautiful girlfriend Eleanor Calder

There’s a lot of speculation on this one and definitely not as many hints. And there’s also the fact that it is 2013 and Louis and Eleanor aren’t engaged or married.

So for now, we’re going to move on. Do not fear, this blind will be revisited in the fifth section. Also, keep the concluding sentence “More later” in the back of your brain.

4. “One of You Will Know The Truth” - October 16th, 2012

And here comes some heavy speculation. This article is the least specific yet. No mentions of “performer” or “singer.” Just "young man.“

There are a few hints, though:

"teen/tween" » the majority of 1D’s fanbase, as well as their intended audience

“one day,” ”one of you will know the truth” » One Direction

4 mentions of "Tell her…" » 4 mentions of "Tell me" in Tell Me A Lie:

Tell me I’m a screwed up mess… / Tell me you don’t want my kiss… / Tell me anything… / Tell me a lie

(Special thanks to dlr99 on Blind Gossip for pointing out the Tell her/Tell me comparison in the comments… The paragraph originally made me think of Tell Me A Lie but I thought it was too far of a stretch. But now that I see the number of mentions match the chorus, it seems a little more likely that it was planned.)

Now, it’s funny how this came out a day after the “Tease and Announcement” blind. Actually, it’s not really that funny. These articles go hand-in-hand; that much is clear.

And that’s about all I’ve got on this one. It’s incredibly vague (on purpose, I’m sure) and I can’t say anything for a fact. I can say, however, that this blind will also be briefly revisited in the next section.

5. ”Heartthrob Proposed to Girlfriend” - October 22nd, 2012

I’m sure you know this blind quite well, and you may be wondering why I am including it.

A lot of people threw around Jelena guesses in the comments section of “Tease and Announcement” and “One of You Will Know The Truth.” Justin/Selena were later revealed as the subjects of this blind (and this blind only). Now, it is very important to note the following:

Blind Gossip basically just told us that these two blinds are not about Justin. Since he was the biggest contender, this now leaves more room for it to be Louis. But like I’ve been saying, this does not prove anything. All I can say is that one of the popular guesses has been more or less eliminated by Ace.

6. “They Won’t Make It To Valentine’s Day” - December 7th, 2012 (SOLVED)

This blind is hilarious because Harry/Taylor had JUST been photographed as a "real couple" in Central Park Zoo on December 3rd, and people on BG were already guessing “Haylor” as the answer to this blind, which was posted just 4 days later. Some pretty obvious clues include:

“never, ever admit” » We Are Never, Ever Getting Back Together

“trouble fans” » I Knew You Were Trouble

photo » Taylor is known for making her hands into a heart at her concerts

Valentine’s Day » Taylor starred in a movie by the same name

So basically the answer was crystal clear, so no one was surprised when it was solved.

Ace gives us a few pretty good gems about how fake this relationship was in the following paragraphs, including:

Why did they break up? Well, we’ll let you in on a little secret: These two couldn’t stand each other! That’s right. They didn’t even like each other! Each one thinks that the other is immature and annoying. Frankly, they are probably both right. While holding hands they grimaced in a way that kids do when they think that someone is giving them the cooties. They really didn’t like kissing each other (that New Year’s Eve kiss was staged), and they certainly never slept together. Yes, all that sneaking in and out of hotels nonsense was totally choreographed.

The purpose of this blind was basically just to confirm what we already knew; Haylor was nothing but a pitiful publicity set-up that wasn’t built to last. However, this would not be the last of the Haylor blinds…

7. “Relationship Runway Rant“ - January 15th, 2013 (SOLVED)

Surprise! Another obvious one. Some clues that pointed to Harry/Taylor:

"a bad actor” » Let’s be honest here, Harry Styles is not a good faker; his facial expressions in the Haylor pics alone were enough to give them away

“his management team" » From what we have seen, whether it’s the rumored romance of Harry/Caroline Flack or the staged Emma Ostilly kiss, the One Direction management loves a good set-up

“needed the publicity” » Taylor’s album “Red” had been released back in October

“sweet, together girl” » Taylor Swift is, after all, “America’s Sweetheart”

“never getting back together” » We Are Never, Ever Getting Back Together

Now, at this point in the game, we must remember that it is important to take every Blind Gossip article with a grain of salt. This one was a little harder for me to believe because the quotes in the article are so specific; they would have had to come from a direct source that overheard the entire conversation. However, the hilarious commentary in the “Solved” section dissolved some of my doubts.

A few notes to Tay Tay, who we hear reads BG:

1. Sweetie, the bodyguards that surround you don’t provide a magic invisibility shield or a soundproof shield. It might help to remember that the next time you are in a public place.

HAHAHA. So maybe a source did actually overhear her, who knows?

Also:

5. Act your age. Date your age. Oh, and try to date straight boys. They might actually like you.

WELL WELL WELL. Ace, are you trying to say that Harry Styles isn’t straight? Hm. How very interesting.

This is just yet another blind that shows the transparency of “Haylor,” while casually throwing in a hint that Harry Styles may not be the straight womanizer he is portrayed to be.

8. “Two Plus Two Equals Bedlam” - November 19th, 2012 (SOLVED)image

This blind actually didn’t do much to hint at anyone in One Direction originally, at least in the usual wordplay way. There were some context clues, but this wasn’t really on my radar until after it was solved. (This is out of chronological order because it was solved after the Haylor blinds, and only makes sense after reading them.)image

If indeed true, this blind doesn’t do much except to reinforce the fact that One Direction’s management (and according to Ace, Taylor “Because we needed the f*cking publicity” Swift) will do anything to make sure the boys are always on the public’s radar, no matter the personal cost. (And it demonstrates that, to no surprise, Niall is a really great friend who knows when to say no.)

9. “Two Hotties Interested In One“ - January 18th, 2013

This one’s a funny one. When it was first posted, there were quite a few clues the fandom believed pointed towards this being about Harry/Louis, such as:

"Two Hotties Are Interested in One,” “which one is worthy of her crush,” “which one she would want to marry”» One Direction

"two talented, under-25 performers” » Harry was 18 and Louis was 21 at this point

"just a couple of years” » One Direction officially started ‘working’ together in 2011, which would have been two years ago

There are also a few, less-concrete hints:

"they don’t look alike” » I mean, this certainly can depend on individual opinion. But honestly, Harry and Louis really don’t look much alike. Besides the obvious differences of short/curvy and tall/flat, their hair/eye color/facial structure are incredibly unique from the other.

“Set-ups with girls are fake” » Fresh off the Haylor train, this comes as no surprise.

The one thing that threw everyone off a bit was the pair being popular among the “young adult” crowd comment. Most of the One Direction fanbase is made of tweens/teens. As a young adult fan myself, I can vouch for our existence, but I wouldn’t go so far as to say that we make up the majority of the fanbase. However, the blind goes on to mention “young girls" being interested in them. So that disconnect is something to keep in mind.

Now, shortly after this blind was posted, it was updated to say that it was actually about two actors on a television show, and was correspondingly tagged as “actors, television.” A lot of guesses about Harry/Louis had already been thrown about in the comments section, which is probably why Ace added that it was not about any of the One Direction boys. But, BG still threw us a bone with a little side-comment “(although other blinds might be).”

Even though Blind Gossip says that it’s not about One Direction, it doesn’t necessarily mean it isn’t. BG has lied before and said a blind isn’t about someone, and then it is solved to be that very person. So honestly, this one is pretty much up in the air.

10. “He Will Lose His Job If He Comes Out“ - January 24th, 2013

This blind was interesting. One of the biggest context clues is that "The Gay One" is referenced, which of course was introduced in the very first blind "Boy Banders Hiding A Secret." But which one? The general consensus’ reaction was that it would most likely be about Harry, since no girlfriend/beard was mentioned. This article also uses the word ”one” many times, just like many of the previous blinds. So, to review the specific hints:

“The Gay One" »Throwback to "Boy Banders Hiding A Secret" blind

4 mentions of ”one” » One Direction

"He is not the only one in his group of colleagues to feel this way” » Also another throwback to the “Boy Banders” blind, referencing "The Other Gay One" (assumed to be Louis)

"sell an image” » We all know that Harry’s image is that of a womanizer, and his many high-profile setups prove his management wants that image to sell. He is certainly not alone in this, though; most management nowadays is all about image, so this doesn’t necessarily prove it’s about Harry.

"if he goes rogue” » It’s a bit of a stretch, but parsleybabe pointed out to me that this could be referring to Louis’ first band “The Rogue.” If the blind is about Harry, “going rogue” could possibly refer to “going for Louis.”

The rest of it is very general:

"cute, young celebrity" » Harry’s the youngest in the band, and he is certainly cute, but this description could apply to countless celebs

"part of a group" » this certainly narrows it down, but there are other groups out there it could apply to

substantially older management team » The founders of Modest! are “substantially older;” Richard Griffiths has been in the business for forty years, founding his first agency in 1974; Harry Magee has been in the industry for over thirty years, joining his first company in 1982. However, this is still quite general, as other groups may also have an older management team.

The thing that doesn’t sit right with me is the part that says the other members of the group are "content to play the public game of pretending that they are all straight as long as the paychecks keep rolling in." Perhaps it is just me being idealistic, but having been following the boys for quite a while, they’ve never struck me as the type that are just in it for the money. They are incredibly generous with their donations to charity, and are much more expressive about the fact that they are living their dreams, rather than focusing on the money/fame aspect. Personally, I wouldn’t bet on this one.

11. “He Already Has Someone” - January 31st, 2013 (SOLVED)

This one was so deliciously obvious. First of all, let’s just take a moment to appreciate the crater of a dimple in Photo Boy’s face. Secondly:

“takes her home" » second album name, Take Me Home

"the blonde is just a friend” » The day before, Harry was spotted with his blonde friend Ellis Calcutt, and the next day articles like this were circulating like wildfire around the Internet:

Lastly, the part that mentions he "isn’t ready to take it public yet" is reminiscent of the "Two Hotties Interested In One" blind, which mentioned "even if they can’t express it yet in public.”

So really, nobody was surprised when this popped up again on August 8th, 2013:

Now, down in the solved section of this blind is a little blurb about actress Emily Atack admitting to a “fling” with Harry. The whole thing is emphasized to be very casual, never a “boyfriend and girlfriend” kind of deal. This struck me as quite weird, because even though it seemed BG’s intention was to prove that Harry is already with someone and the setups are fake, they still threw in something about a girl he was “seeing” back in the day. Like I said before, I’m not Ace, so I can’t really tell you what that means. It could have been BG’s way of trying to tiptoe around the subject so as not to get into trouble with any big wigs, or perhaps Ace was just trying to stir the pot a little.

What’s important to take away from this is that all of the clues pointed to Harry, and this blind ended up being about him just as we suspected. One might go so far as to say that a pattern is slowly, but surely, being established.

12. “Porny Reputation“ - February 7th, 2013 (SOLVED)

This one got pretty hilarious, especially within the fandom. When this blind surfaced, the Internet exploded with the name “Jack Styles.” He does certainly resemble Harry, and the sharing of “Styles” is a pretty big clue. Take a look:

The video in question is years old, from back in August 2009, but a video doesn’t necessarily have to be new to “surface.” And according to my research, Harry’s “look-alike” had been circulating through the Tumblrsphere before the blind was even posted.

A few context clues include:

"one of the world’s biggest young stars" » This isn’t specific by any means, but let’s be honest… Who in the world doesn’t at least know Harry Styles’ name at this point? He dominates the media, and he’s also the youngest in the band. We can assume he is at least a likely candidate. (Also, one of the world’s biggest stars » One Direction)

"a collective heart attack” » Heart Attack, track on the Take Me Home album

Now, if this is indeed about Jack/Harry Styles, BG made a few errors. Jack Styles has been Jack Styles since 2009, so he didn’t name himself after Harry. Secondly, he doesn’t even do porn anymore! According to his profile (WARNING: link leads to mature content), he only did five videos in 2009. (The Harry look-alike pictures come from the video with Sean Taylor). So this one is a bit of a toss-up. The details certainly check out, and in some shots he does very much look like Harry, but one can never be sure.

SOLVED! Well, look at that! Quite out of the blue, this blind has been solved on November 6th, 2013:

I have no idea why this blind was solved at such a random time. Perhaps Ace was running dry on One Direction news and wanted some hits. Who knows? Anyway, this blind didn’t necessarily need “proof” to be solved, but it does demonstrate that we were right in our assumptions that it was about Harry. Porny case closed.

13. “Publicity Proposal Pending” - February 14th, 2013 (SOLVED May 7th, 2013)image

This one got an interesting reaction. It was posted just in time for Valentine’s Day, which is pretty funny when you consider the very first Haylor blind. No one missed Ace’s clue of “moving in that direction,” soa lot of Elounor guesses were thrown around, as well as Zerrie, and a select few for Payzer. The alliteration in the title was a more subtle clue (Payne/Peazer/Payzer), but it did indeed end up being about Liam:image

Once again, Ace emphasizes the management’s wish for the boys to push a straight image with his description of “Desirable, heterosexual young men.” We can observe that Ace’s comments in the solved sections are establishing a steady pattern of hinting (or blatantly stating) that one or more of the members may not be straight.

Now, do you remember the “Tease and Announcement” blind? It ended with the phrase "More later.“ Look how Ace ends this one:

"You’ll see soon enough…" Hm. That’s a nice throwback to “More later,” eh? Since “Tease and Announcement” wasn’t solved along with the Payzer blind, and Ace informed us that it was not about Jelena, Elounor is still an incredibly strong contender. With comments like “More later” and “You’ll see soon enough,” it certainly seems like Ace is warning us to prepare for another engagement setup.

14. “Popstar Is Just Pretending” - February 22nd, 2013

Not much to this one. The timing is hilarious, because Louis and Eleanor had just gone to the Topshop fashion show earlier in the week, on the 17th. If we want to get tinhatty, the girl in the photo is sporting a pretty Eleanor-esque bun. Also, the fact that the listed source is the Mirror is interesting, because we all know the Mirror loves printing any scandalous One Direction story, whether it’s true or not. This one is obviously meant to be pretty obscure, so I’ll leave it be for now.

15. “Boy Banders Are Hiding A Secret Trailer“ - April 24th, 2013

So after more than a year, let’s talk about how BG posted this fan-made trailer, which presents One Direction as the subject of their infamous blind:

Tell me, why exactly would Ace post this if it was the wrong answer?

Like I said, this blind is certainly one I’d place a bet on. Convinced yet?

16. “They Were Involved Before the Show” - May 22nd, 2013

I really don’t think this blind is related to One Direction. At all. I’m only including it because it was the subject of some speculation, mostly from people thinking that it may be suggesting that Harry and Louis had dated before the X Factor days. They were at the same Script concert, yes, but according to them, they didn’t know each other at that time. And if they had met and dated two years before the show, Harry would have been 14 and Louis would have been 17. I’m just not buying it.

The only clue I see is the ”one really cute couple.” That’s pretty much it. I really don’t think that One Direction is necessarily defined by their X Factor days (I know that’s how they began, but they didn’t actually win), and the blind is tagged as “television.” It’s true that the “Two Hotties Interested in One" blind was tagged as “television” as well, but that was long after it was posted, and may have been an attempt to throw us off. If anything, the rainbow of colors featured in the picture is making me think it’s Glee-related.

I’m not feeling this one, so let’s move on.

17. “Traveling In Different Directions“ - July 24th, 2013

I am however, feeling this one. Ah, Ace. Could we get any more obvious? Some clues:

"Traveling In Different Directions,” “same direction”» One Direction

Two very prominent "1"s on road sign » One Direction

Salt Lake City on road sign » The following day, One Direction played at the Maverik Center, which is located in a suburb of none other than Salt Lake City

"boy banders" »Lest we forget “Boy Banders AreHiding A Secret!” (Also, none of the boy bands currently on tour have girlfriends who are publicized even nearly as much as Eleanor.)

“They won’t make it to the end of the year” » Reminiscent of "They Won’t Make It To Valentine’s Day" blind

There is no doubt in my mind that this is about One Direction. And since Zayn/Perrie were not traveling together (she left the USA just as 1D arrived) and Liam/Danielle were already broken up, Elounor is the last option left. This blind may as well already be solved.

18. “Winter Break” - July 29th, 2013

This one is hilariously obvious as well. Ace is throwing us a lot of bones. The blind mentions “boy banders” right off the bat, and then goes on to pile on the hints:

“one of the boys,” “one of them,” “one prefers Speedos” » surprise, One Direction

“a bit more modest” “Forget modest!” » Modest! Management, anyone? With the exclamation point and everything!

It literally could not be more obvious, especially with Modest! thrown into the mix. There are also some speculations the fandom has made about which boy is which:

"one of them wants to hit the slopes” » Harry/Louis took a skiing holiday together back in 2011… Harry tweeted that Louis taught him to ski in Courchevel, so obviously Lou is pretty practiced at it

"the other wants to go to a beach” » Harry literally just said in a q&a on twitter on August 19th that he loves the ocean

“one prefers Speedos" » Let’s be honest, Harry’s never really been shy when it comes to showing off his undies (or what is under them) Here is a pic of Harry on the “pot yacht” for your viewing pleasure:image

"one prefers to be a bit more modest" » We have very few shirtless Louis pictures to speak of, at least in comparison to Harry. Here is a pic of him on the pot yacht as well. Spot the difference: image

If this blind is indeed legit, there is no doubt in my mind that it is about our dear Harry and Louis. The pieces fit perfectly, and the hints about an Elounor break-up are slowly but surely building up. Stay tuned!

19. “Ring Shopping” - August 16th, 2013

So as it happens, Louis and Eleanor were spotted shopping together in Beverly Hills on August 13th, three days before this blind was posted. And it just so happens that they were photographed in what appears to be a jewelry store on Rodeo Drive.

I heard many rumors about this picture: that it may have been photoshopped, that they were actually checking into a hotel, or that it was a Rolex store. I’m not sure how any of these theories check out, but either way, people were still freaking out like they always do. So yes, Ace. Of course it got our attention.

There are no wordplay clues in this blind to speak of. The only reason it immediately brings Elounor to mind is because it came three days after the picture was taken.

This blind just reinforces the fact that Ace is watching… Always watching.

20. “Third Time’s A Charm“ - August 21st, 2013

I have to say that after making this masterpost, I saw this coming.

Ace has stopped using wordplay clues, and started giving it to us straight.

Forced Guy/Girlfriend » Liam/Danielle, as reported and solved in “Publicity Proposal Pending” blind

Ring Shopping Guy/Girlfriend » Louis/Eleanor, as hinted at in “Ring Shopping” blind

Now, the engaged couple is quite obviously Zayn and Perrie. Perrie was spotted with a diamond ring on her finger on August 20th at the This Is Us movie premiere. Sources report that Zayn had asked her the weekend before.

What this blind fails to do, however, is take us farther than that. We know that management was pushing for one of the boys to get engaged. What we don’t know is whether or not this one is a fake engagement.

Ace blatantly states that the Payzer engagement was for publicity, and that Louis/Eleanor are “definitely” not getting married. What Ace says about the newest engagement, however, is only that one of the boys "pulled off the engagement bit" and then goes on to say "Congratulations to the happy couple!”

To be honest, I am not sure where this leaves Zayn and Perrie. To me, it seems that Ace could be saying the two are genuinely and maybe even happily engaged, but that the union was sped up by managerial pressure. However, Ace could also be saying it’s all just another publicity stunt. (But if Ace wanted us to believe it was a publicity engagement, it begs the question: Why was neither Little Mix nor Perrie’s own celebrity image hinted at in the blind? A publicity engagement, after all, would benefit her as well.) We only got two sentences about the newest engagement that really only told us what we already knew. There is no mention of publicity, or the couple not being genuine, or the couple having problems. So what is Ace even trying to say here?

I think this blind was left open-ended for a reason. So let’s keep our eyes peeled for more info.

21. “Double Date Sleepover“ - September 3rd, 2013

Okay, I literally don’t know why this was posted because there is nothing to figure out here. It’s common knowledge that Harry and Liam were offering an evening out in London to raise money for Trekstock for one fan and a friend. But Ace did throw in "best double date ever" as a hint just in case you didn’t get it. Sooo… blind solved! But will this lead to more? We’ll have to wait and see!

22. “Behind This Gorgeous Young Couple” - September 13th, 2013

Never fear, Ace is here!! Here we have yet another BG clarification on the difference between real life and publicity.

On August 31, Harry and Cara Delevingne were spotted on a ”romantic theater date,” and reports are now circulating that they are dating and considering “getting serious.”

The photo is a nice starting point for a guess, because the girl is blonde, the guy is dark-haired, and let’s not forget how many pictures there are of Harry in that exact pose, giving a little side smooch to fans, bandmates, etc.!

There aren’t any wordplays in this blind that I can detect, but "hearts breaking all over the world,“ "cute young male performer" and "he has a lot more fans than she does" at least points toward Harry, before driving it home with the mention of "his famous relationship last year with that very pretty singer" and Ace wondering if he’s become a "better actor." This is, of course, a reference to the Haylor nightmare that began last December, and casts Taylor Swift as the "very pretty singer.”

A lot of gems can be found in the fourth paragraph. It makes sense that the two “don’t mind hanging out together,” because Cara and Harry have always got on pretty well. 23. “Faux Couple Photo“ - September 30th, 2013

Ah, Ace. You never let me down.

So, as we all know, yesterday this photo was posted on Instagram by one waltermartinez3:

This picture is of Paige Reifler, an aspiring “model” who’s been linked with Harry numerous times, and Harry, in a seemingly comprising position. I’m going to begin with my analysis of the blind. If you are unfamiliar with the background to this picture, please see the corresponding section below.

Beginning with wordplay clues:

"one thing that publicists never tire of” » Up All Night track, One Thing

"private moments” » What could be more private than closet canoodling? Also, could be a stretch, but let’s not forget that Moments is also a 1D song.

"the best staged photos,” “the best ones” » Best Song Ever

“one thing,” “best ones,” “the ones,” “one where” » One Direction (The overuse of “one” seems to be a favorite of Ace’s)

Now, for contextual clues:

The first hint we have is ”young male star on the floor, entangled with his girlfriend in a loving and 'spontaneous' embrace.” Harry matches this description, and he has certainly been linked to Paige enough in the past for her to qualify as his "girlfriend" to the ill-informed. And the embrace definitely does seem spontaneous… For poor Harry, at least, considering his defensive stance. Other (obvious) clues:

"faces cleverly obscured" » by the hanging shirts

his tattoo » Harry’s "Things I Can’t" tattoo is clearly visible on his left arm

Ace ends the blind in classic Ace-style, with yet another insinuation that Harry Styles’ straight, womanizing image isn’t who he really is:

"Are you buying the hetero image they are trying to give him? Well, you shouldn’t. Because the girl in the photo isn’t the true love of his life.”

This blind is tantalizingly specific in its clues, and it was posted within a mere 24 hours of the photo’s posting. Very few media sources picked up on it right away, but we were all anticipating something from BG. This tells us two things: 1) BG knows when to deliver and 2) Ace is always watching.

That’s all for now, but keep a wary eye on BG’s “Solved” section. You never know what might turn up.

BACKGROUND: Now, if you are unfamiliar with this series of unfortunate events, buckle in, because there is a lot to it. The guy that posted this picture, Walter Martinez, is one of Stephen Orso’s crew. If you’ll recall, back in late June/early July, Stephen Orso, Paige, and some friends met up with Harry in NJ. He gave them free tickets to his show and they proceeded to completely shit all over his generosity, taking a video of them in the audience pretending to sleep, filing their nails, and leaving early. Other things were revealed after the fact, such as the awful content of Stephen’s twitter. Harry then tweeted his infamous “You my friend, are not my kind of Pal” tweet. Basically, it was a huge mess for Harry. (You can read in detail about Harry’s first interaction with Stephen and his crew here.)

Now, as for the photo, this picture of Paige and Harry was posted to Stephen’s Instagram on June 30th. As you can see, their outfits are the same as the photo above. It’s definitely Paige, and it’s definitely Harry.

How do we know Stephen was involved in this Instagram pic? The asshole was tweeting the pic to TMZ down in the comments.

Paige wasn’t having it, and commented the following:

She later tweeted (her Twitter is private, or I would link it) “Revenge is childish. Hope you’re happy.“ So on Paige’s side, it was made out to be a big revenge plot.

As of now, the photo has been deleted from Instagram.

ACE’S ‘DARK’ PERIOD

These blinds get their own section because they demonstrate a complete turnaround in Ace, in both writing style and intention, that I am choosing to call Ace’s “dark” period. As of late, Ace has begun solving blinds dealing with very serious/sensitive content with no proof to back up his claims, and has targeted and attacked certain celebrities with absolutely no holds barred.

Brace yourselves, and let’s begin.

1. “Winter Break Is Going Downhill Fast” - October 15th, 2013

Well, it had to happen eventually… Bad news blind. Let’s get to it. First, the wordplay clues:

“who don’t know what it is going on behind the scenes” » At first I thought this was a typo, but now I’m thinking it could very well be a hint at Louis’ “It is what it is” tattoo.

"the first one,” “one of our boys” » One Direction, as per usual

Now, onto the context. First of all, Ace tells us that the couple’s relationship “has become increasingly difficult to manage.” Having followed their movements, there has been no visible change in behavior between Harry and Louis during these past few months that the fandom has observed. This is not to say there may not be trouble brewing behind the scenes, but I would think that if someone in the relationship truly did cheat, that kind of tension would certainly translate to the stage, subtly or not.

So, who is this other guy? Ace provides us with very few clues, besides the fact that he’s "not a member of the band" and "had a relationship with one of our boys." We also know that the lover scorned is not a big fan of this person, with Ace’s addition of ”Of all the people in the world, why did it have to be him?” at the end of the blind. The most popular guess so far among fans has been Nick Grimshaw. He does fit what Ace seems to be getting at, to a point; Nick and Harry did hang out a lot in the past/still do occasionally, and the media loves to label Nick "Harry’s bff" and speculate whether or not they’re in a some sort of secret relationship. However, Nick immediately coming to mind as the “other guy” in this blind is also due to timing. Earlier this month, Nick and Louis engaged in a bit of a Twitter war.

It began when Louis tweeted this:

Nick then not-so-subtly commented the following on The Breakfast Show (credit to grincham-n-larry for the dialogue):

Louis, seemingly having gotten wind of the comment, fired back with this equally not-so-subtle tweet:

And Nick got sassy:

It’s clear that Louis isn’t a big fan of Nick’s, which makes the Grims a likely contender for this blind. However, I’m not buying any of it. Why? This blind absolutely reeks of promotion. Not only does One Direction have a new album being released in November, the second season of “Sweat the Small Stuff,” a television program Nick is hosting, premiered on October 15th - the exact day of this blind.

Here are a few things we need to consider before we lend this blind any credibility whatsoever:

Assuming Nick is the “other guy” and even that Harry is the one that cheated is pure speculation. Ace did not give us any specific clues (which he certainly has in other blinds) to point to one or the other; this blind is open-ended. This probably means that we were meant to guess and make a fuss.

The lack of specifics in this blind could mean that the source was lacking in knowledge. The whole thing could easily be bullshit.

Promotion, promotion, promotion! As they say in showbiz, any promotion is good promotion. Ace is not immune to being fed false info, for promotional reasons or otherwise. True or false, BG’s blinds will still get hits.

Ace had implied that Eleanor will be gone soon, but now she is coming to Australia. This blind could be Ace’s way of covering up the fact that his prediction has yet to happen. (Credit to Lisa)

Also, keep in mind that One Direction just signed a new music contract and will most likely be dropping Modest! management when the (suspected) 3-year contract is up at the end of this year. With Harry’s “We don’t need no piece of paper from the city hall” tweet that spurred marriage rumors and the recent tension in the Twittersphere involving Louis’ family, Eleanor, etc., sending false info about cheating to Ace could be one last attempt by Modest! to push the heterosexual images they have worked so tirelessly over the years to perpetuate.

Just like any other blind, this one must be taken with a grain of salt. It is very generalized, and very open to interpretation. It was meant to get attention and it did.

As Ace has promised to “fill us in later,” keep an eye out for an update.

2. “Band Hotel Drama Part 1, 2, and 3" - October 16th, 2013

After these blinds popped up, it certainly seemed like the “Winter Break Is Going Downhill Fast” blind had ushered in a new era of Blind Gossip that demonstrated a complete change in Ace. As I began to explain in the intro to this section, blinds began to be solved with absolutely no real proof (such as the Monchele scandal or the Jo Bros “Fake Bump” blind) and Ace’s writing style seemed to have changed. The writing even started getting a little sloppy - For example, Part 1 of this series originally had the “Two Guys who shared a room” bit attached to the bottom, when that blind hadn’t even begun to approach that particular topic. It was shortly removed.

But what is even stranger is that these blinds seem to have gotten their info from a rumor post on Tumblr… that went around in March. A Tumblr user (who has requested to remain anonymous) apparently had some personal connections that caused her to be privy to certain information about the boy’s stay in a hotel room in Cardiff, and she made a post about this information back in early March. (The boys were in Cardiff from March 1st-3rd, performing in four matinee performances - beginning with an opening show on Friday, two on Saturday, and ending with one final show on Sunday. {source} )

The original post (now deleted - if you have it on your blog, feel free to send it to me) about the Cardiff hotel incident contained the following info {credit to bromanceshmomance}:

However, when all 3 of the blinds were released, it seems not everything matched up with what she had been told:

imageimageSo the coke clean-up was incredibly exaggerated (if it even happened in the first place), there were no fans outside, and no rooms were empty, contrary to what Ace claimed.

Now that we’ve covered the content, what about the writing style? There are very few wordplay clues - “one" is used a mere three times in total (one more story, one of the rooms, one bed) but it is not in the usual clever way; in fact, there’s really no other way to word these phrases, so they don’t even actually seem like clues. And that’s it. No other wordplay to speak of. Where is the clever wordsmith Ace, who planted hints in the text left and right, that we knew so well? This writing style just doesn’t match up with the other blinds - Even the “Winter Break Is Going Downhill Fast” blind had a few witty wordplays tossed in. Not to mention the complete lack of mentions of “boy band" that we’ve learned to expect. Hell, at this rate, looks like Ace might have picked up a coke habit too!

We don’t know if Ace found this post on Tumblr (which would be strange as the blogger informed me that it was untagged and hidden under a read more) or was sent some sort of tip about it (either from someone who read the post on Tumblr, or possibly someone who had firsthand knowledge of the incident, which honestly is pretty unlikely as it happened MONTHS ago). I honestly don’t know what to make of these blinds. It’s clear Ace wanted hits, and it’s clear he got them, but as to their credibility, I just really can’t say for sure. The timing is incredibly strange, the content even stranger, and there is absolutely zero concrete evidence. I’m just going to leave it at that.

2. “Backstage with Sniffy“ - November 4th, 2013

*heavy sigh* Again, with the coke rumors.

Not much to this one, either. There are two references of “one” (one young singer and one of those fans), the reference of “in a private hotel room with friends” (probable throwback to the “Band Hotel Drama" series), and the picture of the very green, very Harry Styles-esque eyeball.

Upon first reading the blind, I immediately thought it was about Justin Bieber. But Ace clearly couldn’t have that, so he threw in the hint at the bottom that it was not the Biebs. The few clues we do have are at the very least pointing in Harry Styles’ general direction - Especially with the huge green eye staring you down.

However, I don’t give any of these blinds credence until I am presented with actual proof. (And I’m no drug expert, but I imagine a serious cocaine addiction would begin to show in Harry’s features/behavior on stage.) When Ace gets some actual evidence to support all these coke rumors, then we’ll talk. But for now, like any unsolved blind, it’s all up in the air.

It's weird that Gen is back to peddling the gluten free diet. In her November 2017 blog post, she said she has hypothyroidism & that her doctor suggested she go gluten free. She only decided to do it for a week for the blog. There aren't any doctors worth their salt who would recommend gluten free diet to their patient with hypothyroidism. I should know since I have hypothyroidism. My mom, aunts, and female cousins all suffer from some thyroid disorder as well. (1)

A doctor wouldn't tell you to exclude gluten from your diet when you're not allergic. Too much fiber & alcohol is what they tell a hypothyroidism patient to exclude. She either lied about drinking too much or she is lying about the gluten free diet/hypothyroidism. These are the stories that started it all. 3 things we can take from this;

1. She drank alcohol the night before (which isn't great if you have hyperthyroidism)

The gluten blog has a few treasures.

Jennifer/Ghostie refers to going gluten free as a "fad." Now (because she's lacking material)she has to live by it because of her hypothyroidism, which is a flat out lie. For her condition, gluten free is a choice. This whole paragraph is quite something.

This is a gem too if you like reading lies.

Jennifer even says in the blog that going gluten free doesn't improve health. So why would a doctor suggest that? She would need something else to actually make her healthier.

Sorry it’s so late, but it’s a long one and no, I did not come up with the idea for this fic after thinking up that hilarious opening line (i’m kidding, that’s totally what happened) Paring: Shirbert. Words: 2800 and change.

Gilbert was tired of his job. Working in the service industry was horrible. People were rude, demanding, and horrible tippers. Still, he had to pay for school somehow, and this was the only place that would hire him. Being a Starbucks barista wasn’t too bad, he tried to remind himself. The bell that signaled that someone opened the door rang and Gilbert didn’t notice, he kept making the grande Caramel Machiatto that was assigned to him. “You get that,” Billy said. “I’m taking my break.” Gilbert rolled his eyes and looked to see who was waiting at the register. It was two girls, one had black, raven like hair. The other had red hair that hung down in two braids and a freckles. She was beautiful.Gilbert moved over to the register. The girl with black hair went first. “I’ll have a Venti Mocha, no whip cream.”“And what’s your name?” Gilbert asked.“Diana” the girl responded. She paid, then moved aside and let the other girl step forward.“What would you like this afternoon?” Gilbert asked her.“A Venti Shaken Ice Tea,” the young woman said. “Black.”“Would you like lemonade with it?” Gilbert asked.“No thank you,” she responded. Gilbert liked people that always used please and thank you with servers, even before he became one. It said a lot about their character. J. K. He knew it was probably a long shot but he figured that if they were walking to or coming from class, they would be there at the same time. Sure enough, they were there again. “Diana, right?” Gilbert asked as the first girl approached the registrar.“Yeah,” Diana said. “Though this time I would like a Hot Chocolate.”“Venti again?” Gilbert asked as he punched it in.“You know it,” Diana smiled. Then she looked back at Anne and got an idea. “You know, we were just going to go straight home but my extremely attractive freind here wanted to get Starbucks on the way.” Diana gestured the the blushing figure behind her.“Your drink will be ready soon,” Gilbert smiled, unsure how to respond. Diana stepped off to the side and Cordelia stepped up. “Sorry about my freind,” Cordelia apologised. “No need,” Gilbert smiled. “I wish I had a freind that invested in my happiness.”As if being summoned, Billy appeared and trapped one arm over Gilbert. “So is this the chick?” He asked, loudly.Gilbert didn’t like Billy that much, but if you are asking to trade shifts they usually won’t without an explanation. So when Gilbert started asking around to see who was working, the story of the enchanting Cordelia also started circling. “Hey, girl,” Billy addressed Cordelia now. “My bud Blythe here traded his prime Wendsday afternoon shift for this one, I hope you make it worth his while,” Billy winked at Cordelia, making her instantly uncomfortable. “Hey Billy, don’t you have to be whipping tables?” Gilbert asked, trying to get him as fat away from the girl as possible. “Fine,” Billy said, walki g away slowly, “but I expect details but.”“I’m not your bud,” he said to the space Billy had been moments ago. “I’m not his bud,” he told Cordelia. She looked down, still very uncomfortable. “Now I feel like I have to apologize,” Gilbert said sheepishly.“You didn’t do anything wrong,” Anne pointed out.“I suppose not. How about if I just take your order.”“Black Venti Shaken Ice Tea, please,” said Cordelia.“Name?” Gilbert asked, trying to sound like he hadn’t been dreaming about her the entire week. “Penelope,” the girl formerly called Cordelia said. Gilbert took a double take. “Ummm, last time you said it was Cordelia,” he pointed out.“Last time I felt like a Cordelia. This time I feel like a Penelope.”“So, Cordelia wasn’t your real name,” Gilbert clarified.“It was, at that moment.”Gilbert felt a lump form in his throat. He knew people used fake names at Starbucks all the time, but it didn’t occur to him that she might. He had been practicing writing Cordelia over and over in his notebook, trying to make sure his handwriting was the best it could be. It felt weird that to have been obsessing over a lie.“Coming right up,” he said in a monotone voice.He went to make their drinks, his body doing the work and his mind was to distracted by this new revelation. Anne went to wait by her freind.“Did you see that?” Diana said in a whisper to her freind. “What?” Anne asked.“He told his freind about you!”“They are not friends,” Anne quoted Gilbert.“And he traded shifts for you.”“So what?”“So what? So you’ve read so much fanfiction, I thought you would know a Starbucks soulmate AU when you’re in one.” Anne rolled her eyes. “Think about it,” Diana pressed on. “You have the hots for him. He has the hots for you. It’s fate.”“I don’t think he likes me now that he knows I lied about my name. He probably doesn’t want to date a liar.”“He’ll get over it,” Diana said. Sure enough, when they picked up their drinks, Gilbert smiled warmly at them. “Beautiful name, Penelope,” he said. “It really suits you.”“That’s why I chose it,” she smiled back as they left the store.Gilbert made sure he had the exact same shift next week, and the week after. Soon, everyone knew about Gilbert’s mystery girl. They started trying to get placed onto that shift with him just so they could see her. Gilbert was the kind of guy girls went crazy over, never the other way around. But the look in his eyes whenever he talked about her made them all know he was really smitten. It wasn’t just a crush, but if it was it was the biggest crush they’ve ever seen.Anne kept giving new names, and she enjoyed coming up with them. She had lists in her notebooks of all the ones she wanted to try out on him, and Diana joked that they were going to name their kids off thoes list. Anne acted like she didn’t like the teasing, but what she actually didn’t like was being constantly reminded of what she wants but could never have. Still, Gilbert worshiped her. He kept careful track of all the names she’s used. After Penelope there was Alex. Then Remy, Amelia, Lucinda, Wendy, Maria, Tammy, and Theodore Washington the Third. “Name?” Gilbert asked, his favourite moment of the week was hearing how the girl answered that question.“Autumn,” she said, blissfully.“A beautiful choice,” he said. “It suits you.”“What?” Anne asked suddenly. Did he just call her beutiful.“Because of the red hair,” he pointed out. “It’s very autumn-y.” Gilbert recovered quickly, but was scared at how close he came to calling her beautiful.“That’s not why she picked it, though,” said the ever-present Diana. “She picked it because she has Cole’s new show on her mind.”“Who’s Cole?” Gilbert asked. Did this girl have a boyfriend? It made sense that she would already have a boyfriend. “Our freind,” Anne said. “He has a new show opening up downtown called The Fourth Season. We are going to it on Saturday.”“Can I come too?” Gilbert asked. “I’d love to support local artists.” “Sure,” Diana said. “Let’s give you the info.” Anne produced a pen and Gilbert gave her a napkin. Gilbert must have tried on at least 15 outfits. None of them seemed exactly right. He wanted to impress the girl, it would be the first time she saw him in something other than his uniform. He wanted to look relaxed, but not too relaxed. Informal and approachable but also like he still put in a effort. Nothing seemed right, though, and it was almost time to leave. He decided to go back to the 4th or 5th outfit. A simple dark red button up shirt, a black dinner jacket, and brown slacks. He didn’t know what the other were wearing but this seemed appropriate for an art exhibit. He left the house and headed over.It was an average size gallery. Not big, but not a whole on the wall either. On all the walls there were pictures. Photographes. But they were photographes of sculptures. Gilbert walked over to the first one he saw. It was a scene of a forest. There were three sculptures, around waist high, dancing in the center of a clearing, raising their hands to the sky. In the center of the circle of statues, there was a real life figure. She was moving fast, spinning as she lifted off the ground. It was doing that thing where there was a long exposure so the photo was blurry but Gilbert could clearly identify the woman in the center as him mystery girl. He smiled. Her face was mostly blurred but the artist, it must have been Cole, kept her smile crystal clear. Gilbert always loved her smile above anything else, he was glad he wasn’t the only one who did.He wanted to keep walking, but knew it was more important to find the girl. Starbucks Gilbert?”“Yes!” Gilbert said happily. “Do you know where she is?”“I know where she was,” Evan said. “She was helping Cole in the back room.” “Well, where is she now?” Gilbert was so close. “Right there,” Evans pointed. Gilbert followed his finger to where his mystery girl, Diana, and a man that must have been Cole were emerging from a doorway. They were all laughing together and having a good time. “Let’s go,” Evans said, leading Gilbert over to where the three friends were standing. As Gilbert approached the girl, he noticed her dress. He went over to kiss his boyfriend as Anne approached Gilbert. “I’m so glad you came,” Anne said.“That’s what she said!” shouted an anonymous voice in the crowd. “Shut up, Patrick!” Anne shouted back. She obviously knew everyone here, and they all knew her. “I wouldn’t miss it for the world,” he promised her. “So your Starbucks Gilbert,” Cole said, having suffencently greeted his boyfriend. “You must be Cole. It’s an honour.” They shook hands warmly. “I love the photos. You must have spent a lot of time working on the sculptures. But I have to ask-”“If I spent all that time on the sculptures why not just present them?” Cole finished the sentence. “ Because I didn’t create the sculptures to be shown in a gallery. I created them to be shown where they were. To reflect and augment and be augmented by their surrounding. The trees at what inspired and guided my work, to take it away in the final stages before showcasing, to showcase it without context, seemed cruel and almost crippling.”Everyone nodded along as Cole spoke, listening intently.“But why is it called the four seasons? I only see fall and a bit of winter.” Gilbert addressed Cole, curious.“Well, the plan was to come back once every month for a year, documenting the statues in all four seasons,” Cole loomed down, bitterly. “But-”“But someone came and destroyed it,” Evan finished.Gilbert was horrified. “Who would do that?” he wondered.“Whoever it was destroyed months of work,” Cole said bitterly. “I decided just to proceed with the show as planed, keeping the same title out of spite for whoever thinks they have control over what I do, say, or feel.”“Good,” Gilbert said firmly. “When someone hurts you that bad, they aren’t worth your anger.” “Thank you,” Cole said, looking at Gilbert respectfully. “Oh, please excuse me,” Cole said. “I just spotted my old mentor Miss Josephine and have to go say hi.”Cole left, and Evan followed him. So did Diana, leaving Gilbert and the girl alone. He looked over at her fondly.“Can I ask you a question?” Gilbert asked, very seriously.“You may,” the girl nodded, understanding that this would be a serious issue.“What is your name?” he asked. The girl in front of him held back laughter. “It’s not funny,” he tried to insist while also laughing slightly. “I’ve known you for two months, you are my favourite customer, and we are becoming pretty good freind and I still don’t know your name. You wouldn’t believe the awkward conversation I had with Evan. I need to know your name.”Anne stopped laughing and looked at him. She stared deep into his eyes, accidentally falling in love without even realizing it. “Anne. Spelled with an E.”“Anne,” Gilbert repeated. “You hate it,” Anne said, immideatly panicking . “I know you do. I hate it too. That’s why I hate sharing it.”“No, no, no,” Gilbert said quickly. “I don’t hate it. I love it.”Anne looked up from her panicked state. “You do?”“Of course,” Gilbert assured her, stepping forward and putting his hands on her arms to help calm her down. “It suits you. It may not be the fanciest name, but it’s reliable. Safe. Beautiful. Small, but full of life, passion and happiness. Like I said, I love it.” It was obvious that the last sentence wasn’t referring to the name, rather the person bearing the name. Anne looked up into Gilbert’s eyes and felt her soul leave her body as they kissed. He didn’t kiss her, she didn’t kiss him, they kissed each other, both leaning in at the exact same time. Anne closed her eyes as she felt the kiss, felt his tongue rub against hers. She melted into it, into him, and wanted to stay there forever.

and everything that reveals truth is light to the soul.

This is why the Scripture says,

“Arise, you sleeper! Rise up from your coffin and the Anointed One will shine his light into you!”

Today’s reading of the Scriptures from the New Testament is the 5th chapter of the Letter of Ephesians:

Be imitators of God in everything you do, for then you will represent your Father as his beloved sons and daughters. And continue to walk surrendered to the extravagant love of Christ, for he surrendered his life as a sacrifice for us. His great love for us was pleasing to God, like an aroma of adoration—a sweet healing fragrance.

And have nothing to do with sexual immorality, lust, or greed—for you are his holy ones and let no one be able to accuse you of them in any form. Guard your speech. Forsake obscenities and worthless insults; these are nonsensical words that bring disgrace and are unnecessary. Instead, let worship fill your heart and spill out in your words.

For it has been made clear to you already that the kingdom of God cannot be accessed by anyone who is guilty of sexual sin, or who is impure or greedy—for greed is the essence of idolatry. How could they expect to have an inheritance in Christ’s kingdom while doing those things?

Don’t be fooled by those who speak their empty words and deceptive teachings telling you otherwise. This is what brings God’s anger upon the rebellious! Don’t listen to them or live like them at all. Once your life was full of sin’s darkness, but now you have the very light of our Lord shining through you because of your union with him. Your mission is to live as children flooded with his revelation-light! And the supernatural fruits of his light will be seen in you—goodness, righteousness, and truth. Then you will learn to choose what is beautiful to our Lord.

And don’t even associate with the servants of darkness because they have no fruit in them; instead, reveal truth to them. The very things they do in secret are too vile and filthy to even mention. Whatever the revelation-light exposes, it will also correct, and everything that reveals truth is light to the soul. This is why the Scripture says,

“Arise, you sleeper! Rise up from your coffin and the Anointed One will shine his light into you!”

So be very careful how you live, not being like those with no understanding, but live honorably with true wisdom, for we are living in evil times. Take full advantage of every day as you spend your life for his purposes. And don’t live foolishly for then you will have discernment to fully understand God’s will. And don’t get drunk with wine, which is rebellion; instead be filled continually with the Holy Spirit. And your hearts will overflow with a joyful song to the Lord. Keep speaking to each other with words of Scripture, singing the Psalms with praises and spontaneous songs given by the Spirit! Always give thanks to Father God for every person he brings into your life in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

And out of your reverence for Christ be supportive of each other in love. For wives, this means being devoted to your husbands like you are tenderly devoted to our Lord, for the husband provides leadership for the wife, just as Christ provides leadership for his church, as the Savior and Reviver of the body. In the same way the church is devoted to Christ, let the wives be devoted to their husbands in everything.

And to the husbands, you are to demonstrate love for your wives with the same tender devotion that Christ demonstrated to us, his bride. For he died for us, sacrificing himself to make us holy and pure, cleansing us through the showering of the pure water of the Word of God. All that he does in us is designed to make us a mature church for his pleasure, until we become a source of praise to him—glorious and radiant, beautiful and holy, without fault or flaw.

Husbands have the obligation of loving and caring for their wives the same way they love and care for their own bodies, for to love your wife is to love your own self. No one abuses his own body, but pampers it—serving and satisfying its needs. That’s exactly what Christ does for his church! He serves and satisfies us as members of his body.

For this reason a man is to leave his father and his mother and lovingly hold to his wife, since the two have become joined as one flesh. Marriage is the beautiful design of the Almighty, a great mystery of Christ and his church. So every married man should be gracious to his wife just as he is gracious to himself. And every wife should be tenderly devoted to her husband.

The Letter of Ephesians, Chapter 5 (The Passion Translation)

marriage is a sacred bond of husband & wife according to our Creator’s design, which is the only “safe place” for sex.

Today’s paired chapter of the Testaments is the 9th chapter of the book of Jeremiah about the importance of truth:

Jeremiah: O that my head were a spring of water

and my eyes a fountain of tears;

Then I could weep day and night for my poor people

who have been slaughtered.

O that I had a place in the desert I could run to,

a haven for travelers.

Then I could leave my people,

for they are all an adulterous and treacherous lot.

Eternal One: With tongues bent like bows they shoot their lies at one another.

Truth does not win out in this land; deceit always seems to triumph.

One evil leads to another because they don’t know who I am.

Let everyone be careful of his neighbor,

and think twice before he trusts his brothers;

For every brother is ready to cheat and deceive;

every neighbor is prepared to lie when it suits him.

In this land of liars, friends have no misgivings about deceiving one another;

no one even thinks to tell the truth.

They’ve trained their tongues to utter lies;

they wear themselves out with all their sinning.

Jeremiah, you live in a place where deception is assumed;

as their lies pile up, they refuse to acknowledge Me.

Here is what the Eternal, Commander of heavenly armies, has to say:

Eternal One: Watch, I will refine this nation and put them to the test.

What else can I do with My people?

Their tongues are like deadly arrows;

they speak such lies;

Each one leads his neighbor with kind words

into a trap that was already set.

Should I not punish them for what they do?

Should I not repay a nation that acts this way?

Jeremiah: I will weep bitterly for the mountains of my homeland

and grieve for the death of her wild meadows.

For they have become a silent wasteland

where no one dares to travel.

Pastures once filled with the lowing of cattle, now are empty and lifeless.

All the animals have fled; even the birds have left the sky.

Eternal One: I will leave Jerusalem in ruins;

her rubble will be the haunt of jackals.

I will wreak the same havoc on the cities of Judah;

no person will be found there.

Jeremiah: Who is wise enough to take all this in? Who has heard the Eternal speak and can explain His ways to others? Can anyone say why this land has been ruined and left a wasteland, a desert where no one dares to travel?

Eternal One: I will answer you Myself. Because they have ignored the law I gave them generations ago. They haven’t listened to My voice, and they refuse to walk in My ways. Instead, they have stubbornly followed after their own hearts. They have chosen to worship images of Baal just as their ancestors taught them. This is why I, the Eternal, Commander of heavenly armies and God of Israel, must now take action. Look, I will now give them bitter food to eat and poisoned water to drink. I Myself will scatter them among the nations—nations neither they nor their ancestors ever knew existed—and I will hunt them down with the sword and destroy them completely.

The Eternal, Commander of heavenly armies, has this to say:

Eternal One: Think this over, and summon the mourners.

Send for the women who will chant the dirge, that they may come.

Let them be quick about it: weep and wail,

that our eyes may fill with tears that streak down our faces.

Listen to the voice of sorrow weeping from Zion herself:

“We are ruined. All that remains for us is great shame.

Now we must leave this land that was ours;

they have torn down our houses.”

Jeremiah: So listen now, women of Judah, to the word of the Eternal.

Mark His words well.

It is time to teach your daughters how to mourn,

time to teach your neighbors the song of lament.

For death has found us all.

It has crept in through our windows and slipped past our defenses.

It has cut down our children in the streets,

and our young men in the public squares. Death has found us all.

Tell everyone what the Eternal has said:

“The dead bodies of men will fall like dung on the open field.

Corpses will lie on the ground like grain cut in the harvest;

but on this day, there will be no one to gather and bury the dead.”

Eternal One: Let not the wise boast in their wisdom, nor the mighty in their strength, nor the rich in their wealth. Whoever boasts must boast in this: that he understands and knows Me. Indeed, I am the Eternal One who acts faithfully and exercises justice and righteousness on earth. These are the things that delight Me.

Look, the day is coming when I will set things right with all people. I will punish all those who are circumcised in their bodies but not in their hearts— the people of Egypt, Judah, Edom, Ammon, and Moab, and all who live in the desert and clip the corners of their hair. All these nations are really uncircumcised, and all of Israel is uncircumcised where it counts, in the heart.

All of us have unhealed parts, "hidden faults" (נסתרות) of which we are not fully aware. "Blind spots." Therefore king David prayed, "Who can discern his errors? cleanse me from secret faults" (Psalm 19:12). We are cleansed by confession, that is, by looking within our hearts to uncover deeper motivations... If we are honest with ourselves we may discover, for example, that we are angry or fearful people, despite how we otherwise wish to regard ourselves. If you find yourself unable to let something go, for instance, some pain or failure of the past, remind yourself that you must do so if you want to move on with your life. Focusing on how things could have been different is to be enslaved to the past. The goal of teshuvah (repentance) is to turn us back to God for life, but to do this, we must be be willing to let go of what makes us sick.

Note that the Hebrew word translated “errors” (i.e., שְׁגִיאוֹת) comes from a root word (שָׁגָה) that means to wander, stray, or transgress. The question raised by David is rhetorical: “Who can discern his errors?” No one – apart from divine intervention... David asked to be cleansed from his “secret faults,” which are not those that were performed by him “in secret,” but rather those that were unknown, unseen, and unconscious to his own sense of awareness. These are “mindless” sins, unthinking offenses, hidden dispositions, character defects and actions that a person unwittingly performs, perhaps because of deep forces of which he was oblivious. These are the “secret sins” set in the light of God’s face (Psalm 90:8); the “sluggish darkness” of the human heart that leads to death and ruin: “The heart is deceitful above all things, and incurably sick; who can understand it?” (Jer. 17:9). How many of us, after all, are fully aware of what we are doing when we are doing something? How many of us are completely transparent both to ourselves and before God, with no unclear motives, etc.? We must always be vigilant... There is always the force of habit, or the subconscious desires or conflicts of the inner life, that work on us, not to mention the trauma of our past and the present devices from the enemy of our souls. May the LORD give us the willingness to be healed, even if there are parts of ourselves that seem to resist that healing. Amen and Shabbat shalom, chaverim. [Hebrew for Christians]

The Face of Jesus Christ

“For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” (2 Corinthians 4:6)

The light that shines in the soul of a lost sinner when he first comes to know Jesus Christ can only be compared to the light that Christ called forth on Day One of the creation week. We met this God of glory spiritually when we first beheld in our hearts the face of Jesus Christ.

But the face of Jesus Christ was not always deemed so glorious. We read of a time when ungodly men “did...spit in his face” (Matthew 26:67), then took a blindfold “to cover his face” (Mark 14:65), and finally with a rain of terrible blows “struck him on the face” (Luke 22:64). Once His “countenance [was] as Lebanon, excellent as the cedars” (Song of Solomon 5:15), but when they finished their assault, “his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men” (Isaiah 52:14).

“The face of the Lord is against them that do evil” (1 Peter 3:12), however, and the time is coming very soon when all those who have turned their faces from Him will call “to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb” (Revelation 6:16). When finally they will have seen the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ in all its consuming strength, not even the world itself could stand, “from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away” (Revelation 20:11).

For those who have looked on Him in faith, however, this will not be a time of judgment but blessing, for “they shall see his face” (Revelation 22:4). The face of Jesus Christ, fierce as devouring fire to those He must judge, is glorious in beauty and love to those who believe. HMM
