Comfort After A Nightmare - Male!Reader x Lumine

CW: None.

Her steps echo through the damp, dark hallways.

A maze. She always hated those. Dirty, rotting, forgotten with little to no treasure to be found. This time, her pursuit was not motivated by any prize however.

Her eyes follow the trace of white pages, trampled into the muddy floor by undiscernable footsteps. On them, the sketches you showed her countless times. Her face, drawn with the most meticulous of details covering them. Always smiling, always kind. A sparkle in her eyes, the only colored part of the image was mocking her, and the small heart on the corner of the page laughed at her efforts. At how stupid, worthless, idiotic she is.

She lost you. First it was Aether, then it was you. Two of the most important men in her life, gone. She can't help the tears. How pathetic. She can't hold even her dearest ones close.

The filth stains her stocking, the mud sucks her feet deeper in, making her lose her balance. She trips, her hands doing nothing to break the fall. Her face lands in the black, maggot filled grime.

Where she belongs.

"Stupid… S-stupid! Worthless! Dumb! D-dumb…!"

She raises to her feet, without her shoes. She doesn't have time to go back for them. The trail of ripped pages is dragging on, but the paper grows more… yellow by the second. Tattered, old. Sharp rocks cut her feet, blood mixing with the puddle water, but she powers through the pain and speeds up.

Lumine makes a turn, and comes face to face with a wall. She steps back in disbelief, but quickly turns back. Her eyes land on cold, unmoving stone. She snaps around in every direction, but all she can see is the same barrier. Surrounded by her shortcoming, walls she can't climb over.

"No, no, no…" Her cold prison has no compassion for her, only silent mocking.

Everything goes dark, making Lumine jump. She lifts her bruised and soaked hands to feel her surroundings. Much to her confusion, she doesn't feel the walls anymore - just lightless void. She makes a few hesitant steps forward, careful to maintain her balance. Out of the darkness, the pages emerge, forming a steady trail. Lumine follows it without hesitation, stepping over the more and more frequent yellowed pages.

Until she sees you.

You’re lying there, amidst a pile of your drawings, back turned towards her. She disregards her safety and rushes to kneel beside you. Your outfit, so ingrained in her mind, is stained with dark, red blood.

“Y/N? P-please…”

Lumine gently grabs your shoulder and tilts you sideways. Your eyes, once full of light, full of life, are now white, as is your skin. She chokes back a sob. The blood on your hands and cheeks is long dry.

If only she would have been faster.

“Y/N…” She grips your lifeless body tighter, cradling it in her arms. Hot tears stream down her cheeks, washing little bits of dry mud from her skin. “I’m s-sorry…”

Failure. Failure. Failure. That’s what she is, a failure. She barely even spent time with you. She wasn’t there to ease your worries, to hug and cuddle you when you were struggling. And yet you were always beside her, ready to help. And she?

She wasn’t even there to comfort you during your last moments.

Your body blackens, durning with a red flame - just like those of the many monsters she killed throughout her travels. This time too she is the murderer, the perpetrator. A failed partner, a disappointing lover.

Lumine sits among your ashes and weeps.

“Lumine.”

She jolts awake, instantly sitting up. Her heart is racing, her arms shooting out to assess her surroundings. Lumine is breathing rapidly, the remnants of the dark maze still clouding her mind. She quickly registers your hands on her shoulders, warm and firm. Safe, secure, real.

“Y-Y/N…”

She drops her head on your chest, sobbing quietly. You pull her body closer to yours.

“It’s okay. It’s okay. I’m here.” Gently, you rub circles into her back. “That was just a dream.”

She embraces you, nuzzling her head into your frame. “I’m sorry… I’m s-sorry… I… I s-should spend more time with you, I should b-be home m-more.. I should b-be…”

She tries her best to explain, to promise that she won’t fail you. That she won’t let you down, she won’t fail, she won’t be such a pathetic excuse of a girlfriend.

“Please, Lumine. Don’t say such things.” You keep your voice as gentle as you can, and lean back on the bed with her.

“B-but…”

You turn her tear-soaked head to look at yours. Her golden eyes are filled with sorrow. “No buts. I love you, Lumine. Nothing will change that.”

She sniffles. “I… I can’t lose you too, p-please… stay…”

You pull her closer into your embrace, caressing her blonde hair with your fingers.

“I’m not going anywhere, Lumine. I’ll be here. For as long as I can, I will support you, no matter where your journey will take us.”

“C-could you… promise me? P-please…”

You smile. “I promise.”

The blonde traveler is unmistakably one of the busiest people in the whole of Teyvat; the neverending commissions here and there, exhausting explorations as an adventurer, and the journey to the unknown just to find their twin. The traveler has been through a lot, yet barely achieving progress in looking for their twin’s whereabouts that sometimes they wanted to cry out their frustration.

Not to mention the part where everyone asks for their help.

“Traveler! Could you help me with these?” “If it isn’t the famous traveler and their companion! Mind lending me a hand?” “Please help me find signs that my true love will come!”

It sucks.

The traveler has nothing to do with these people. There are times they wanted to ignore everything else and focus on their twin, but oh, archons, their compassion weighs more than anything, they always make time for everyone. It is no secret that the traveler has a heart of gold. This is the reason why you always do your best to look after the traveler, making sure they do not take advantage of their capabilities. You know that their power is beyond measure, something that could rival a god’s, this has been proven quite a few times in their journey on the four nations. Albeit lacking in combat prowess, you never feel ashamed of showering the traveler with the affection and love they deserve.

“Archons, what do I do without you?” The blonde traveler looks at you fondly, smiling from ear to ear, “I should start appreciating you more, don’t you think?”

“Can’t say I don’t want the Teyvat superstar’s attention on me, y’know?” You chuckle, inching closer to the traveler as you stroll on the bustling streets of Port Ormos.

“Ouch, that is all I am to you? A celebrity?” The traveler scowls, feigning dismay.

“I guess so.” You shrug as you intertwine your hands with the traveler. You feel the warmth of their hand spread through yours and your heart skips a beat although you initiated the contact.

The traveler jokes, “I should try harder then,” the blonde pauses before taking a deep breath, “You know I’m grateful for you, right? I have things to do and the people constantly seek me to be of service to them, and then, there’s you.”

“What do you mean?” You lightly squeeze your intertwined hands.

“All that you ever wanted from me was sweet nothing.” The traveler halts, staring at you intently.

“Don’t be silly, you know the reason for that.” Your voice comes off hushed and you blush from the intense gaze on you. “I won’t be saying it though.”

“Yeah, love you too.” The traveler brings your hand to their face and gently places a kiss on your palm.

ANGST AT FOURTH ENDING

Ending 1: Dango Milk

Lumine crawled, tiptoed and rolled; whatever she could do to not be seen or heard. She heard murmuring from the other side of the room, words too quiet for her to be able to make out.

She was on a mission, and it was her duty to fulfill it. The only problem was that she didn’t know how to complete it. Paimon had been by her side a minute ago, but it seems she turned invisible.

Lumine sighed internally as she got near the vault. Hopefully no Fatui saw her, or it could get ugly real fast for both parties. Just as her muscles relaxed, she was shocked from a loud noise near her.

She quickly turned her head to see an attractive man.

“Y/N?!” She whisper yelled. “What are you doing here?” Her volume lowered, eyes visible of concern, not knowing that her so called friend was a Fatui Harbinger.

“Katheryne told me to get you. She needs you to retreat because of some issues.”

“I see...”

You duck behind something quickly to prevent your underlings from seeing you.

The both of them quickly retreat back to Inazuma.

Lumine yawned as she stretched, walking with Y/N in Inazuma City.

The girl’s eyes lit up as her head turned to Y/N. “Oh! Have you ever tried dango milk before?”

“No, I have not.”

“It’s dango in milk. But the owner of the stall, Tomoki, allows you to mix other things in milk too. He calls them ‘Creative Milk’.” Lumine smiles lightly at you as she leads you to Tomoki.

The two of you buy dango milk.

”It’s pretty good, I don’t think I could eat hundreds of these though.” She giggled as you both talked about whatever came to mind, sitting on a bench.

-The scene ended with a picture of you and Lumine smiling and enjoying a rare moment of peace where nothing mattered.

-You bought some more dango milk after Lumine got called by Katheryne to redo her commission. Baal appreciated the dango milk!

Ending 2: Debt

Though you might’ve been shocked or surprised, one of the few people who have helped the Traveler happens to be a Fatui Harbinger.

Aether’s eyes widened. Huh...? Alas, Childe and Aether were not friends. Had they been, perhaps the blonde-haired protagonist might’ve had his ‘debt’ lowered by Childe on behalf of him.

The ginger-haired man’s eyes narrowed dangerously, his smirk from before wiped off. “You heard me, comrade, you have a debt now. And debts must always be repaid.” He repeated.

“What...? I never took money from the Northland Bank!”

“Who said you did? I’m talking about your debt from one of my co-workers. He saved your life.” Childe took a step closer, not caring for the other’s battle stance. “You can hide, but you can’t run from debt!” The blue-eyed man charged forward with hydro blades at his beck and call, aiming to attack.

Aether’s breath hitched as another man suddenly came into his vision. The mysterious man tackled Childe to the ground.

“Gah-!” Childe grinned childishly (do you get it? lol) as he realized who it was. His head tilted up, looking at his co-worker while pinned to the ground by the hands on his shoulders. “Comrade! It’s been a while!”

Y/N huffed as he got off of Childe. “Yes, nice to see you too Childe. Why were you about to attack him?” Y/N inquired, eyes narrowing, while standing up. Childe’s eyes follow him as he too, stands up. “Aww, but comrade! I was trying to collect your debt for you!” He whined and pouted, the dangerous look in his eyes disappeared without a trace as he quickly clings to Y/N’s arm. Y/N removed Childe from him and walked towards Aether. Childe’s eyes dart from him to Aether as he walks with him.

“I believe we’ve met before, no? Since I saved your life once again, that makes your payment twice the amount.” He grinned mockingly.

-uh oh

-However, it isn’t as bad as it seems, or so Aether thinks. He only wants... a date?

-Did Childe even have permission to take debt from Aether on Y/N’s behalf? Things we will never know!

-And what was Childe aiming to take as debt? It’s a misunderstanding. He wanted to collect the debt. However, Aether assumed a battle stance, so he took the chance to fight him.

-In the past, Childe would randomly hug you out of nowhere. In the public? Sure, lemme hug you. Meeting? Lemme hug. But now since this whole debt thing with Aether started, he had become clingier than ever, seeing Aether as a love rival.

Ending 3: A Date?

The smiling lady introduced herself, happy to see Lumine doing well “Ah, where are my manners? My name is Kiminami Anna. Please, sit down and enjoy your time here.”

You and Lumine both enjoy a most delicious meal.

After the meal, you both talked and sat on a bench which had a beautiful view.

Lumine suddenly became quiet, a small hint of red on her cheeks.

Having noticed this quickly, you became silent as well. Contemplating if you perhaps did something wrong, you questioned her. “Is something the matter?”

“No, I’m alright.”

She seemed nervous as she parted her lips to speak, but nothing came out as if being clogged in her throat.

“Do... You consider this a date?”

"My biggest mistake. It was loving you." You choked out, as Lumine, no no, Princess Lumine held you by your throat.

"Foolish girl, were you that dumb to think I would ever love you? You were but an asset to me." Lumine smiled, and oh gosh, she looked like an angel. Keyword: looked. Only an asset. You were only an asset to her.

Tears slipped down your cheeks, endlessly as Lumine kept on caressing your neck. You betrayed everyone, everyone, for her. All to get this in return. You betrayed the Knights of Favonius, your family, your friends, Aether. Just for this. For the love of your life to admit you were an asset. You could feel your heart breaking, piece by piece. The more Lumine talked about her 'grand plan', the sicker you felt. Why? Why must this happen to you? What have you done? What did you do to deserve this?

"I-I.." You hiccuped, "loved you. I loved you." You said, your words becoming wobbly. "I...loved you, y'know?" You smiled sadly, as tears kept on falling to the ground. Lumine laughed softly, "That was your mistake. I only want to find my brother, and thank you for making me come closer to my goal." She threw you to the ground and walked away.

She looked back and said, "I never loved you." Maybe it was just you, but you could see some tears in her eyes.

Just some brainrotting nonsense.

Having a calming afternoon slowly retreating into the evening, when you hear a quiet and small knock at the door of you’re house in the whispering woods outside of Mondstadt . Only to open it to see the trailer’s and paimon both holding flowers and looking a bit roughed up.

“ what are you three doing?”

You ask as you let them enter the house.

“ we missed you and haven’t seen you in town as of late”

aether said as he got a vas with the help of paimon where lumine had put her flowers down and hugged you while resting her head on your shoulder and slightly rubbing her face into your neck,

” is it too much to ask to see our lover?”

You took a second and kissed her forehead witched caused her to fidget a small bit , aether had gotten the flowers into the vas as he saw this display of affection and huffed a bit

“ why do I not get any? ToT”

aether said sounding teary as he came to the both of you , as all of the was happening paimon went off to her room to sleep she wants no part of the lovey dovie stuff you three are having. Smiling you open your arms to aether and hug him as well as lumine pulls you all into the couch to have a cuddling time.

“ it’s good to have you both back .”

You say smiling as you pamper aether with kisses as lumine is kissing you neck and cheeks. The twins move back a bit and smile at you as they come close to you

“ we’re home y/n “

they said in unison as they kissed you , happy to have someone to keep them safe and feeling loved as you three fall asleep on the couch you are blissfully unaware of what the traveler’s had just done to meany of the ‘’friends’’ they had made as some if not most of them had all confessed to the twins that they wanted to date you , only to have been cut down as they where TRYING to take you from them. as you never really leave the little home you have and rarely have any reason to you’ll never find out.

✨ Coming home to Lumine ✨

You press down on the doorknob, and push the door open. You're a little surprised at that fact, since it's well past midnight. You see the light in the living room is still on. You close the door behind you. Suddenly the patter of bare feet on the wooden flooring. A familiar figure stands at the end of the hallway, dressed up in one of your t-shirts, far too big for her, and underwear - her usual pajamas.

"Hi Y/N!" Lumine smiles brightly and waves her hand. "How are you doing?"

You take off your shoes and hang your overcoat on the coat rack before making your way to her. You place a quick kiss on her lips.

"I'm tired. Long day, that's all." You give her a smile in return. Her golden eyes look at you softly. "Shouldn't you be asleep by now?"

She waves her hand dismissively, before pointing at the table. "Somebody has to take care of this handsome guy over here, right?"

You sit down. Your hand goes to your eyes to rub them, efficiently covering your small blush. You hear the sounds of plates moving and the microwave's ping. Before long, Lumine sits next to you, placing a bowl of Radish and Veggie soup in front of you.

"Hope you don't mind the microwave."

You grab the spoon and get to work. "How could I be anything but grateful?"

She rests her chin on her arm, propped up on the table. "Hey, I don't mind. Not at all."

You quickly eat the dish. Before you can get up and carry the bowl to the sink, Lumine snatches it. "How about you take a shower? I'll be waiting in bed."

"Thanks Lumi." You take a quick glance at her before you go, just in time to see her yawn.

"Uh oh, you're gonna eat me up!" You tease, and she chuckles.

"With how sweet you are? I wouldn't mind that at all…"

After a fifteen minute shower and a good teeth brushing, you dress up in your own sleep outfit. You get out of the bathroom and head to sleep. She's lying there, half asleep, but the lights are still on. Her eyes are closed, but she cracks one open to greet you.

"The door?" You put your folded day clothes in your drawer.

"Locked." She mumbles sleepily. "I wanna be small spoon. You're in?"

You click off the light and crawl under the covers. "Always."

She makes space for you, and you snake your arms around her. She settles in, her hand finding its way into yours. She curls her body slightly.

"G'night Y/N."

"Good night, Lumine."

By the time you kiss her hair, she's already asleep. You soon follow.

“Paimon thinks Y/n should come with us to Wolvendome!” Paimon said.

“What?” I said.

I was super confused about what Paimon had just bought up. I was in the Adventure’s Guild, so I knew that Lumine and Paimon had a quest to do there. I was in Liyue Harbour, collecting my daily commission rewards.

“It’s in Mondstadt. There’s no reason to worry!” Paimon said, to reassure me.

“Huh? Paimon, what makes you think I’ve ever been to Mondstadt?” I said, clearly getting a little aggravated.

“You’ve never been to Mondstadt?!” Paimon said, looking baffled.

“I have not,” I said, with a blank face.

“Well, you’re coming with us then. We would like you to meet someone.” Paimon said, with both of her hands on her waist.

A smile crept to my face.

Lumine seemed to have noticed as she looked a bit mesmerized.

I turned my head to the side as I didn’t want her to see my face.

“Well, let’s get going then. We need to be there in time.” Paimon said, with her voice getting a little higher.

“Okay okay, Paimon. We’re coming.” I said.

I grabbed Lumine’s left hand and intertwined our fingers together.

I looked at Lumine’s face. Her face was bright red.

I shook it off and slightly picked up the pace to catch up to Paimon, which caused Lumine to be caught off guard and almost tripped due to the fast pace.

“I’m so sorry, Lumine,” I said, being genuine.

“Oh no! It’s okay.” She said, smiling.

She was smiling but looked so sad. I’ll ask about it later.

“We’re here!” Paimon said, giggling.

“Traveler!” The unknown person said, embracing Lumine.

“Razor!” Lumine said, returning the hug.

Something in me felt envious. I shouldn’t feel this way

“Who is that?” The guy named Razor said.

“This is our friend Y/n! They have been very kind to us, ever since we arrived in Liyue! Although they have trust issues, I’m sure they’ll be fine around you!” Paimon said, with excitement in her voice.

I looked at Razor, as he looked at me. I could see his pupils go up and down, up and down.

And then he scoffed.

He walked up to me.

“I am Razor. I am part of wolf pack. Paimon and Traveler are Lupical…

You are not.”

Shock was written on Lumine’s and Paimon’s face.

“Lupical?” I questioned.

“It means, they are family. You are not. Purple teacher told me not to trust someone you know is not trustworthy.” Razor said.

“Excuse me?” That was all I could say.

Razor scoffed again.

“Look, I know I’m not family, and the fact that you just met me, you have the right thinking, I would think the same. But, I promise I am trustworthy. I helped out the Adeptus, I helped out Archons. I, especially, helped out Lumi- the traveler and Paimon.”

Razor looked at me once more and then turned to look at Lumine and Paimon. Mixed emotions were in their eyes.

Razor sighed and slumped his shoulders.

“Fine, I guess I can trust pretty person,” Razor said, rolling his eyes.

Pretty, huh?

Lumine ran over to me and hugged me. I instantly returned one back.

She looked into my eyes to see if I was hurt and placed both her hands on my cheeks.

I gave her a closed-eyed, wide smile. To reassure her, that I was okay.

“I should leave now. Too gross here. I will go back to hunt. Bye Traveler, bye emergency food.” Razor said, waving us off.

“Paimon IS NOT EMERGENCY FOOD!” Paimon yelled.

Lumine and I both laughed.

Lumine returned her gaze to me.

“I’m glad you’re okay.” She said.

“Why are you so scared? Were you scared for me, I feel flattered.” I said, giving another smile.

“Um- you know what, yes, I was actually. I was scared that Razor was going to do something. But deep down, I knew he wouldn’t unless you were an absolute threat.” Lumine said.

I was shocked by her answer.

Lumine started leaning closer to me. Her eyes held me captive.

Her lips met mine and my eyes widened, as she moved her soft lips moving up and down, wanting me to join the rhythm.

I closed my eyes and responded back.

We were in sync. Her lips enlaced with mine. Her hands going around my neck, enclasped, as she rests her hands above my head.

As for my hands, they slowly went down to her waist. I pulled her closer to my body.

“HEY! Sometimes I regret you saving me!” Paimon yelled.

We quickly lashed away from each other.

I was looking to the side, as Lumine was looking at Paimon.

“Sorry, Paimon! I forgot you were here.” Lumine said, chuckling.

“HOW?! Let’s get back. Paimon is traumatized by the scene that just unfolded in front of her.” Paimon said.

The whole way back, Lumine and my hands, were intertwined together.

Paimon kept on glancing back, always whispering ‘Gross’ or ‘Lovebirds’.

We just laughed.
