they’re called tritons, and they’re a pretty niche d&d race but my absolute favorite. i’m playing in a campaign setting that my dm made from scratch, so i got to help invent a bunch of unique lore and culture for them.

[Marigold's phone begins to ring again, the third time in the past twenty minutes. A yawn escapes her, old floorboards creaking as she walks through the shoddy curtain into her bedroom.] Marigold: Yes, Mama -- You know, it's been almost three months now...I think I can remember to buy my own groceries. [She laughs, pacing around her room as her mother's lovely voice fills her with a certain homesickness. Not that Marigold will let her know that, it would only make her worry more.] Marigold: Nine more months, and I'm home...if they don't end up hiring me! [Marigold's heart melts as her mother reassures her, pressing a few kisses through the phone.] Marigold: I love you always...I'll be sure to facetime you and Papa tomorrow morning. [Mattress springs squeak as she flops down onto her bed. She can't shake the melancholy, despite living her dream. To describe her life in the city thus far, the two words tied are fulfilling, and lonesome.] [But Marigold isn't the type to wallow. She was raised with optimism, and her heart blazes with passion. She turns, cheek squishing in her palm as a sweet breeze passes through the flowers outside her window.] Marigold: What do you say, Teddy? Do you think we can do this for nine more months? [She doesn’t expect a response, but she giggles to herself regardless.] Marigold: Yeah, it'll be a piece of cake!

But yes Isaac would definitely have a “Well, fuck” moment when he learns he is being suspected. He actually really likes the Ghosts, especially the Walker boys. And to see that Keegan is torn between trusting him or not would definitely hurt more than he was prepared for.

In my head they all have this confrontation of sorts with Isaac where he goes through this brief flash of grief in his head for supposedly losing a team he was starting to love, but he’s just so jaded at this point that he mentally yells himself that “it was only a matter of time anyway”

And so after Elias and all of them lay everything out, the supposed evidence against Isaac, the ways they can connect him back to the Federation, all that stuff, they are all silent waiting for a reply, for a denial, for some kind of outburst. But they are all a bit shocked when all Isaac says is

“So what now?”

Elias asks what he means.

“What now? Are you going to detain me? Kick me out? Send me to No Man’s Land with nothing but the clothes on my back and a prayer?”

Keegan then speaks up for the first time during the whole intervention, “Isaac, we just want the truth.”

“I don’t give a damn what you want because I have no guarantee that you’ll believe anything I say after all that.” Isaac spits out at Keegan

“That’s not-“

“If you are going to believe anything then believe this: My goal is to stop the Federation. Whether I have to do that with or without you doesn’t matter because I. Will. Stop. Them. So it’s up to you to decide how that’s gonna happen.”

The room is then weighted by a tense silence. Eventually Elias speaks up,

“There’s too much at stake for us to risk a rogue agent taking on the whole federation himself. You are still on the team but you are not in the clear. As for right now you will only operate under direct supervision from myself or Merrick. Your access to our database is suspended unless deemed necassary. Is that understood?”

“…Sir, yes sir.”

“Then you are dismissed to your barracks until you receive further instruction.”

Isaac turns and leaves without a word. Keegan has to stop himself from chasing after him. Isaac wishes the whole way that Keegan cared enough to follow.

anyways i wish i was better with words to explain how much this is so interesting and i LOVE it. i love a good ol "has to stop himself from chasing after him" trope. like UGHHH DO IT CHASE AFTER HIM FOLLOW YOUR HEART. DO IT FOR LOVE. but then it drags out into a heart wrenching little cliffhanger type beat with usually more tragedy.

aha thank you! lish is my character for my friend’s homebrew d&d campaign, the dawn of solaire. messy sketch + lore dump below the cut:

lish goes by “lish” because it’s easier to say “my name is lish like fish,” than it is to say “i’m lorelai melara ishalath of house malagath.” she’s a triton noblewoman from the underwater empire of tyria.

she’s an only child who wanted for very little growing up except affection and attention. she’d always dreamed of being a trophy wife, but became infatuated with bards when she visited the surface as a child with her father and saw how they commanded the room when they performed and were showered with applause.

lish learned the bardic arts as a hobby, but as a tyrian noblewoman, her main priority was securing a husband of equal or higher status. when lish was around fifteen years old, she became deeply infatuated with a twenty year old nobleman, zahras malagath. he had little interest in her, but saw the value in marrying her as a status symbol, so he married her when she came of age.

their marriage is not a good one (to say the least) and also very one-sided. lish’s feelings of love are not reciprocated, and zahras is cold and controlling even by tyrian standards. lish is in complete denial about this, though.

things got worse between them, and lish, in typical lish fashion, she decided to run off to the surface, hoping to punish zahras with her absence, because what can be worse than that? she thinks he’ll come find her, tell her how much he needs her and misses her, and bring her home.

but it’s been months now, and she’s still waiting for that to happen. she hasn’t given up hope, though—but in the meantime, she has to find a way to support herself on the surface (the horror).

she joins up with a guild to make money and get her name out there, hoping that word will reach tyria about her activities and whereabouts on the surface, and someone, anyone will come for her.

(she also has a magical soulmate, beefs with her best friend’s triton girlfriend like they’re two betta fish in the same bowl, and is fighting an evil cult trying to bring stuff back from the dead. but uhhh that’s a whole other story.)

Notes on Personality: Shiro is often quiet (blue and green do the speaking for him most of the time), but he’s very a curious and kind-hearted soul by default! Cares a lot about his friends!!! Loves to eat fruit and explore around.

(bonus for Blue and Green: blue is outgoing and a little quick tempered, while green is more cautious. both of them often worry and care about Shiro a lot)

Backstory and Lore: Born blind and an orphan living on the popopo islands, he lives in a little cave with 2 sibling squeakers who act as his care takers. Occasionally he goes on little adventures with Green and Blue. the siblings found him when he was little, and have left their colony in order to care for the little guy.
