XXIII. Emmától Bruce-nak

Kedves Bruce,

Teaidő van. Most, hogy Julesszal Angliában élünk, próbálunk hozzászokni a teaidő gondolatához, bár ahogy azt már tudod, én csokoládé formájában szeretem bevinni a napi koffein adagomat. (Cristinával ellentétben, aki szó szerint kávé függő.) Csokis süti, csupacsokis brownie, jégkrém—a csokoládé bármilyen formában jöhet, Angliában pedig fantasztikus csokik vannak! A Galaxy szeletekre ráfüggtem.

Julian épp a kivitelezőkkel beszélget odakinn — innen látom, ahogy Kerek Tom mutogat valami miatt —, szóval gondoltam kiveszek egy kis időt, és elmesélem, mi történt a legutóbbi bejegyzésem óta.

Ha visszaemlékszel, találtunk egy ezüstflaskát az Ördög Fogadóban, ami Ty Szellem Detektorának minden riasztóját kiakasztotta. Gyönyörű flaska volt… virágok, lepkeszárnyak és az MF. betűk díszítették. Visszahoztuk Blackthorn Hall-ba, majd napfénynél is megnéztük, mire azonnal eszembe jutott, hol láttam már korábban azt a lepkés dizájnt.

A Fairchildok családi gyűrűjén.

Mindezt Clary miatt tudom. (Nem töltök túl sok időt az ékszereit bámulva, Bruce, de az Árnyvadászok úgy átfogóan eléggé bele vannak esve a családi szimbólumokba. Egyszer Tündérföldén kölcsön kaptam a dzsekijét, aztán Thule-ben kötöttünk ki, és mindenki azt hitte, hogy halott, mert a gyűrűje a zsebemben volt… de azok más idők voltak. A jelenről is épp eleget tudok mesélni.) Julesszal egyetértünk abban, hogy bárkihez is tartozott ez a flaska, az biztosan egy Fairchild volt, akinek a neve M betűvel kezdődött. Sherclockhoz méltó géniusz detektívek vagyunk, tudom.

Egy grillezett sajtos szendvicsek felett eltöltött ebéd során arra jutottunk, hogy jobb lenne, ha szorgalmas kutatásba kezdenénk ahelyett, hogy rögtön azt kérdeznénk a szellemtől: FAIRCHILD VAGY? IGEN/NEM. Szóval küldtünk egy tűzlevelet Helennek és Aline-nek. Nagyon sok régi családi história van az LA Intézet könyvtárában, ezért megkértük őket, hogy nézzenek utána, melyik Fairchildoknak volt M kezdőbetűs neve. Szerintem Helen korán kelt, mert elég gyorsan visszaküldött nekünk egy listát a potenciális jelöltekkel. Medea Fairchild, Myles Fairchild és Matthew Fairchild. A feljegyzésekből nem volt egyértelmű, hogy bármelyikük is Clary felmenője-e, de kíváncsi lennék rá! (Személy szerint azt remélem, Medea az, mert nagyon badass mitológiai neve van.) Mindenesetre nem tartott sokáig kijelölnünk A Flaska Tulajdonosa cím nyertesét. (Dobpergést kérek, Bruce!) A jelölt nem más, mint… Matthew Fairchild!

Azért szűkítettük le erre, mert Medea hetvennyolc évesen meghalt 1802-ben, Myles pedig 1857-ben ötvenkilenc éves korában. Az adott időkeretet figyelembe véve—Jem azt mondta, a barátai az előző évszázad elején lógtak az Ördög Fogadóban—Matthew pedig 1886-ban született, így ő volt az egyetlen, akire passzolt a leírás. (Mint kiderült, halálozási dátum nem volt a nevénél, ami nem azt jelenti, hogy örökké élt vagy születésekor meghalt, hanem hogy a feljegyzések abból az időből megbízhatatlanok.)

Nagyobb hűhó nélkül visszamentünk az étkezőbe, hogy kapcsolatba lépjünk a rejtélyes szellemünkkel. Esküszöm, már többször összesepertünk, az a szoba mégis csak egyre porosabb és porosabb lesz. Itt hagytam pár papírt a Blackthorn archívumból (amit úgy érts, hogy „abból a kupac szemétből, amiben alkalmanként van valami érdekes”) összerendezve az étkező asztalon, de össze lettek keverve. Elgondolkodtam, hogy talán a szellem megpróbálta elolvasni őket, amíg nem voltunk itt.

Julian megköszörülte a torkát. – Figyelem, szellem! – kezdte.

– Talán nem szereti, ha szellemnek nevezik – szűrtem a fogaim közt. – Lehet úgy kellene utalnunk rá, hogy „Eltávozott Személy”.

– Ez olyan orvosinak hangzik – mondta Julian. – Mintha hullaházban lennénk.

Mindketten elcsüggedtünk annak a gondolatára, hogy hullaházban vagyunk. Egy pillanattal később Julian így szólt: – Milyen lenne a lidérc vagy a fantom?

A függöny megrezzent, pedig az ablak nem volt nyitva. Nyilvánvalóan a fantom lett a legnépszerűbb opció.

– Matthew? – kérdeztem lassan. – Matthew Fairchild?

A Matthew szép név. Az 1886-ban született Matthew Fairchildra gondoltam, és hogy milyen ember lehetett. Eltűnődtem, hogy vajon ez a leheletnyi szellő, ami az étkezőnk függönyeit borzolta volt-e minden, ami maradt belőle.

Bár a függönyök ebben a pillanatban nem mozogtak. Minden teljesen mozdulatlan volt.

– Te vagy Matthew Fairchild? – kérdezte Jules, miután határozottan arra jutott, hogy konkrétabbnak kell lennünk.

Erre a függöny olyan mozdulatot tett, amit csak úgy tudok leírni, hogy egy irritált kis hullámzás. Ez felkavart némi port, amitől ködössé vált a szoba, majd hallottam valamit a hátam mögül, ezért megpördültem. Az asztalon levő papírkupac borult fel. Mindenfelé papírokat dobált egy láthatatlan, dühös kéz.

– Akkor nem Matthew Fairchild vagy? – szóltam, miközben próbáltam leküzdeni az ingert, hogy tüsszentsek. – Nézd, teljesen rendben van, ha nem ő vagy, mi csak segíteni akarunk, folytatjuk a kutatást…

A papírok mozdulatlanul a padlóra hullottak. A helyiség megint néma volt. Csendes, akár egy Intézet belseje. Azt gondoltam a fantomunk elment, és rájöttem, hogy kicsit csalódtam. Azt reméltem, végre választ kapunk.

Aztán Julian megérintette a kezem, majd előre mutatott. A karomon minden szőrszál az égnek állt. A padló porába egy láthatatlan kéz épp szavakat írt egy olyan régi stílusú folyóírással, ami a Blackthorn Hallba való érkezésünk óta már ismerőssé vált.

A szavak egyeséven jelentek meg, az írás ingatag és egyenetlen volt, mintha a szellem zaklatott lenne.

Lol gotta be honest that is definitely not how I pictured Teddy, I'm a little shocked you said Joe Keery 😂 mainly because Joe looks more like a Potter than a Lupin, physically I mean. Something about the dark messy hair and arrogant smirk.. Now Joe for James is my favorite, I could see that!

For Teddy I can easily picture someone like Matthew Hitt - brown hair, tall and lanky, sweet face. In a natural form looks like a mix of Remus and Tonks.

Everyone has different headcanons!

I describe Teddy as having messy hair where he looks like a Potter. I think Teddy has a very big devilish Marauders side to him. He was always the mastermind behind James and Freddie’s pranks as it’s been stated multiple times in the series. So that little arrogant smirk, yeah, I see that as Teddy too.

Plus, I can’t help but watch Steve Harrington and think, “Oh yeah, that’s Teddy.”

It’s who I picture and I’m not changing my mind!

Then And Now: Who Communicated Better?

The quote is talking about the current generation disrespecting people online in social media platforms…And Mike Tyson wanting to drive his fist into their faces. With all of this negativity tied to social media, it begs the question, is the current generation more impolite than the past generation, in terms of conversation and communication? There are five factors that determine the answer to that question, and these are Technology, Different Norms, Generational Differences, Subjectivity, and Respectful Communication.

Firstly, technology has held this generation’s hand in growing up, with some GenZ teens and young adults claiming they have been “raised by the internet”, a term used for individuals who have spent a large majority of their childhood, if not their lives, being online. As such, this results in today’s generation being more keen on using text and being informal, compared to the past generation who valued in-person conversation, or used concisely-written letters. Some argue that social media appears more impolite because of the informality of their messages, especially with the use of abbreviations and emojis. Who wouldn’t want to be replied with “Uncle Mark died 😭😭😭🙏”.

Secondly, different norms of what is considered “polite” changes over time, what was considered polite and normal back then could be frowned upon by the current generation. For example, the past generations are very religion-oriented as their basis for what is morally right or wrong. Homophobia back in the day is now a big NO in this generation. Technology and the internet are the most prevalent factors in deciding politeness nowadays, because on the bright side, the internet allowed for the expression of different views and beliefs, making today’s generation accepting, progressive, and in online terms, “woke”. On the other hand, some claim that society has been too accepting of what is claimed to be “outright degeneracy” online, such as the large amount of pronouns and neopronouns people choose to identify as thanks to their freedom of speech. You can have “was/were” or something absurd like “were/wolf” as your pronouns and you would be accepted by similar, like-minded individuals.

Thirdly, generational differences, or specifically, how each generation acted, is a key factor. With past generations being more social, and having more etiquette and formality when it comes to their words. On the other hand, teenagers who are chronically online can experience behavioral changes such as being irritable, impatient, and awkward, where they can’t put their thoughts into words properly, or are unaware of social norms outside the internet. They can also be more impulsive and rude after being used to the safety of anonymity and their screen.

Fourthly, subjectivity. Not everyone has the same definition of what is rude and what isn’t. But thanks to the internet, preferences, beliefs, and viewpoints can be shared online, allowing for large audiences to view these perspectives and be informed, something the past generation didn’t have.

Lastly, respective communication is still prevalent even in this generation. There are still teens and young adults capable of oral discourse and polite conversation. Being generalized with the entire generation can be misleading and unfair, especially when the current generation has a lot of bad apples relating to their behavior online and in person.

james potter — 6’. biromantic heterosexual. he likes sports n’ stuff but like he’s not the annoying type jock or whatever yk?? goes by he/him pronouns but doesn’t really care if people use they/them on him too.

sirius black — 5’10. homosexual. he probably likes something to do with the arts? not quite sure what though- maybe like,,film? he/him but tbh likes all pronouns and doesn’t care what u use :)

remus lupin — 6’1. pansexual. english literature n’ shit jus bc it literally is idc. he/they and was probably they/he at some point as well

peter pettigrew — 5’7. biromantic asexual or aromantic asexual, i’m not sure which one headcannon i like better tho- but def has a heart for cooking and/or art i take no criticism. they/he!!!
