Hannah and Tina know each other. It’s a small server; everyone knows everyone. But there’s some things you keep to yourself. Fear. Attachments. Weakness. And maybe even an irrational insistence on spending hours baking cakes to line paths that hardly anyone ever walks anymore.
Those are parts of Hannah that she doesn’t talk about.
Those are parts of Hannah that, strangely, she doesn’t mind Tina seeing.
Maybe she’s inclined to trust the cat-devil because of the day she lost her flight. That sickening feeling of emptiness on her back and, through that haze of frantic flightlessness, warm arms around her.
My little fairy, Tina had called her.
Sometimes when Hannah lies awake and grieves the emptiness between her shoulders, she revisits those words. They’re like nectar to the desert of her thoughts and she is a hummingbird returning over and over, sipping floral sweetness deep to soothe that ache of loss inside her. Hannah was wingless and tattered and smelled of soot, but Tina hugged her close and said it to her all the same.
My little fairy, Tina said. Tina grieved.
No one grieves in the Dreamlands. There is only grudges and forgetting, animosity or apathy. This is a place of rot and corruption, where roses pale and wings burn.
There is no room for women with wool on their horns, devils who dress as cats and grow gardens in empty cities, who lay pies along pathways to fill the empty spaces.
There should be no room. But Hannah’s arms are empty and there is space in her bed for two and on long sleepless nights she lets her mind wander on flights of fancy where that space is filled by the warmth of another person beside her.
In her daydreams, however, she is unscarred and her wings are folded on her back and when she holds Tina close it’s as if she’s never had the touch of the Crimson inside her mind. In her daydreams, the woman she is when she stands at Tina’s side has never been broken.
It’s no wonder she finds no hope in fulfillment in the real world.
She locks up those ideas in a box in her heart, throws away the key to those thoughts. She opens it on nights of weakness, when her heart aches with longing. And when she wakes alone once again she pretends as if there is no box, and as if the heartsickness inside has never had its claws in her throat.

Hello! Omg I'm so excited you're writing for death note! Can i get a gender neutral reader who maybe helps light or saves his life by pulling him out of the way of a car or something, and he becomes fixated on the and kind of like dedicates his cause as kira towards them?

Innocence (Yandere! Light Yagami X Reader)
Trigger warnings: I don’t think there are any for this story, but if I missed one, let me know)
Light Yagami needed to follow his normal routine and arrive home. He only had short amount of time where he could write names in the Death Note. Light was cleansing the world, one criminal at a time. In time, he will become the god of the new world.
Although, one thing always troubled him. When he did in fact elimante L, where would Light go from there?
The simple answer was he’d continue killing those making the world rotten and Kira’s reign would prosper.
Wouldn't it be lonely ruling the world by himself? Light never paid that idea much thought. He would never find someone who’d meet his ideals and intellect.
What Light didn’t account for was someone special making their way into his life.
The teenager was in deep thought as he made their way out of the school grounds in the pouring rain.
Without warning, a force hit Light. His umbrella went flying through the air until it cascades onto the drenched sidewalk. He braced himself and closed his eyes as he waited for the fall, but it never came.
Light cautiously opened his eyes to see what stopped him from landing on the ground. The seventeen year old wasshocked to find a good looking high schooler holding tightly onto his arm.
He noticed they were wearing a uniform extremely similar to his own. This mystery person had to have be attending the same school. They were very attractive so Light figured they were probably pretty popular. If that were the case, how come Light couldn’t recognize them. He knew everyone in his classes and he was certainly popular himself. The teen contemplated over the idea that they could be a transfer but Light came to the conclusion that that couldn’t have been the case. He’d be most likely been asked to show them around. The teen would nevee forget a persons face that was constructed like a god/goddess.
Once Light regained his composure, ( Reader) let go of him and leaned down to pick up Light’s discarded umbrella. They handed it out towards him and released an apologetic smile.
Once Light held the umbrella, the other person gave a low bow. They spoke softy, but Light could still hear them over the pitter patter of the rain.
“Please forgive me, Yagami-san. I apologize for hurting you. A car was swerving and looked like it was heading straight towards you.”
(Reader) was terrified to look up from their position. They’d figure Light would simply glare and start to reprimand them. They didn’t have much experience with popular kids.
“Oh, It’s alright, uh…” The teen trailed off, hoping the other would finish his sentence.
“(Reader’s full name).”
“That was very brave of you.” (Reader) looked up at him, puzzled.
“Thank you, but I’m sure anyone would of helped you. I’m no one special.”
“I’m not so certain of that.” Light smiled a bit.
Reader simply nodded in response. The teen expected that to be the end of their discussion with Light Yagami but he did something that shocked them.
Light held out the umbrella so it was protecting both (Reader) and himself from the downpour. This small act of kindness meant the world to (Reader), as they tended to always be ignored by their peers.
The high schooler motion for them to walk together.
How could they possibly refuse Light’s offer without looking rude? If Light Yagami thought (Reader) was rude then they could kiss the days of being a nobody goodbye. They didn’t know much about the teenage boy besides the fact that he was popular and top of the class in terms of intelligence. (Reader) feared they would become the topic of what those kids whisper in the hallway. They’d become the focus of their cold glares.
So they walked with Light.
The two students made causal conversation as they made their way down the street. At first it was awkward but soon they were joking with each other as if they were old friends. Light found out that (Reader) was in almost all of his classes. They explained how they tended ti keep quiet and lurk in the background.
Each word (reader) spoke, resulted in Light coming to the conclusion that made the type of person that Kira was trying to protect.
They were good,hard working, honest and most of all innocent.
He needed to protect them. No, Kira would protect (Reader) and those like them.
He may of just found his partner. Someone to rule the world with him.
“I can’t wait to make you mine, (Reader).” Light muttered to himself.
(Reader) pretended to be oblivious to what her new acquaintance said but in truth, they heard him and they didn’t know what to think.

“—How was I supposed to know that?” Near’s mouth twists this way and that, struggling to find its composed shape. “This might be shocking to you,” he mumbles, “but I do not often get flirted with.” This is a Near that Mello hasn't seen since they were little: plaintive, wounded and wide-eyed and furious, whether over a toppled card tower or being called bug-eyes; when something was out-of-place or not-right and he wanted it put back. Even when Mello had resented it, even when he had caused it, the sound of Near wailing had tugged something raw and primeval in him. It finds that same spot in him now, stitched into every chamber of his chest. "Oh, μικρός αδερφός." (Somewhere dimly Mello registers that that phrase is ruined for him forever, now that he will always associate it with Near pink-mouthed beneath him—) "Well, for your future ventures," he whispers, grins. Catches Near's bottom lip between his teeth before letting it go. "That is definitely flirting."

What do you think the night before Mello and Matt’s death was like? Were they grieving? Were they happy they got to live for as long as they could?
Also, would they have already been together or would they have proclaimed their love the night before their deaths?

I have a scenario written out for this but we're here for visual art not literature, so I'm gonna break it down as short as I can.
As far as I’m concerned, we don’t really know what Mellos canon plan was with the whole kidnapping thing but I don’t think Mello would’ve so easily accepted to go on a kamikaze-mission just to help Near reach his goal. The man had a plan to get out of this as a winner. So I don’t think him and Matt were actively closing off their lives that evening. But they knew their plan was risky as hell and it's wearing down on Mello big time in either universe.
That evening includes Mello overthinking, pacing, absolutely losing his shit, having anxiety/panic attacks, Matt trying to calm him down, Matt talking Mellos ears off about Zelda lore as a distraction method and them finally surrendering to sleepiness.

In 2.1 they would already be together for almost 2 years but I like the idea of a last minute love proclamation in a moment of intimacy. Highly recommend reading Bedsheet Confessional by @not-orphaned-account, which is pretty close to what I imagine went down that night.

I once read a fic that had a throwaway line about Mello having a branding tattoo on the back of his neck because Wammy's pulled him out of a trafficking ring and that's why he keeps his hair long and I've never been able to get it out of my head it's canon to me now

Mello
the main canon thing I know about Mello is he's a bit of a dick. so I hate to say it but he's probably going to poke fun at you. until he realises he's genuinely upsetting you, at which point he mumbles something and stops.
you might find a box of chocolates outside your door as a wordless apology.
there will still be the occasional jab
but he's going to go "secretly a sweetheart" mode
because if he's close with you, he's close with you for a reason and that reason is that he cares about you. (even if he kind of hates himself for it)
So, like L, he'll start asking questions, some insensitive, but he's trying to learn so he is no longer such a dick. unlike L he won't do any research at all lmao so the most obvious things will leave him with a shocked Pikachu face...
I actually think if your verbal tics are words as opposed to simply humming or clearing your throat etc, he'd start saying those words more often. just using them in general conversation no matter what they happened to be.
that's actually something that a lot of people do, did you know? we tend to use words more often if we're close with people who say them often
someone will have to tell him eventually that drawing attention to tics can make them worse, at which point he'll freeze up for half an hour and stare at the wall - probably in embarrassment, it's hard to tell. for a few days after that he'll be really awkward just because he's not used to not talking about things.
Mello is the kind of guy who completely blows past taboos, but knowing that focusing on your tics makes it harder for you means he won't want to bring it up anymore
but yeah after maybe a week or so things go back to normal
well as normal as things can ever be with Mello around...
Near
Near, on the other hand, will seem not to notice you have tics at all no matter how disruptive they are to you or how often they show
but of course when you tell him he just quietly says "I know" and goes back to building a tower out of pipe cleaners. though he might invite you to join in considering you're already there
He's so much better about it than Mello lol
he just doesn't really care either way if you have tics or not...
you're still you.
I also hc that Near has some kind of motor disability that affects his legs so he probably is more understanding of potential discrimination or struggles you may have faced
if one of your tics led to you knocking down one of his buildings he'd get a little upset but definitely not as much as if anyone else did it.. he'd probably make you help him rebuild it... that or make you sit five feet away for a while
Like L, I think Near would probably get a little bit scared if your verbal tics were yelling out words. no, actually, he'd probably get a little shocked at any sudden movement or sound. he's not obvious about it though, his body just jolts a little and he goes still for a moment, then returns to normal
he doesn't really ask any questions because he probably already knows everything he wants to know, but he's happy to sit and listen while you talk about anything - tic-related or not - if you'd like that. he will probably not talk back though haha

I think if he heard anyone, particularly Mello, giving you trouble over your tics, he'd throw dice at them

yeah he's just chill about it in general. Doesn't see it as anything that needs particular attention: he's more interested in your hobbies and whether you like solving puzzles than the fact that sometimes your body acts in ways you can't control.

Writing Tips: Descriptions
Okay I've been asked for this, so here's all my advice on writing descriptions in scenes.
Number one, what you always want to remember, is that they shouldn't interrupt the flow of the scene. There's always going to be like, an action or specific tone that a scene has, and you should match your descriptions to it. You don't have to rattle off a list before we even set the scene, we can fill in the details as we read.
For example, if someone walks into a room, you don't have to immediately describe everything in the room in great detail--we follow the POV character, and of course they won't notice everything immediately. You can have someone enter a room and notice there's tv and a couch and the cat. You can say the color of the couch or the patterns of the cat when the character first starts to interact with those things: when they sit down on the couch or pet the cat. Example:
Dylan walks into the sitting room. There are two black satin couches and a dark red rug, with a tortoiseshell cat curled comfortably on it in.
vs.
Dylan walks into the sitting room and is immediately greeted by the meowing of a tortoiseshell cat. It pads over to wind around his legs and he sits down on one of the couches before he concedes to reach down and pet it. It hops up beside him and kneads its paws on the black satin fabric of the couches.
When action is the focus of the scene, keep descriptions short and focused on what is happening. If someone is having a moment of quiet thought or introspection, then you can spend more time talking about the things around them because it lends a sense of thoughtfulness to the scene. You can stretch out the details of something someone is focusing on through the entire scene. You don't have to describe the view from a skyscraper until someone stands at the edge and has an introspective moment, you don't have to mention a character has fangs until they smile, you don't have to say the way someone's eyes change colors until they step back into the light.
Number two, use your thesaurus. Sometimes overusing descriptive language can make something less interesting (control + F to see if you're using a word too much in a scene or in a fic in general), but we can easily skip that by just pulling out our thesaurus at all times. Also, if you're trying to emphasize a specific part of someone's nature, you can do so by restating it multiple times with different words. Example:
For a brief time he too felt the need, the want, the panicked search for anything and everything that would fill his senses.
I basically said the same thing over and over, yes, but I used different language each time and expounded upon it the third time. I do tend towards more flowery or fancy descriptions, so this could be a matter of personal preference, but I often will point out specific details about a character over and over throughout the course of a story, just using different words each time.
Honestly, my biggest tip is to write description through the lense of the viewpoint character. If your POV character is afraid, then focus on the knife in the hand of their enemy. If they're fascinated, then discuss the details that catch their attention. If they're zoned out, eschew most description in favor of the things they're thinking or feeling.

I accidentally deleted someone’s anon ask. The question posed was what sort of partner Mello would be and I wrote out a thing and I didn’t like what I wrote so I, in my infinite wisdom, decided to delete the post not knowing that also deletes the ask itself. My deleting the ask does not make me incapable of filling the ask but I felt bad about it so this is my apology.
Mello has a fun thing going on. He is both incredibly insecure but very willing to show exactly who he is to his partner. A lot of your relationship in the early stages, then, is going to be him trying to figure out who and what exactly you are while trying to show you— in his own way— who he is. The idea of you accepting him as an individual is incredibly important to him, so he’s going to ask a lot of questions to reaffirm what his relationship with you is, to confirm that you are both on the same page. For him, a relationship takes as much priority as a job, so he will be very committed to you and will— unlike some of the other characters I’ve written for— set aside time specifically to spend with you, even if that means that his time with you and his time at work overlap. After all, the fact that you’re with him at all is lucky; if you want him, then he wants to give himself to you lest you feel deprived and have to look elsewhere for your fix.
In regards to how he acts once you two are in a rhythm with one another— that is, once the two of you have gotten somewhat comfortable in your relationship— he makes a pointed effort to make sure that you know that he really does care for you, be that by verbally singing your praises (or, more accurately, mumbling them into your skin) or by giving you gifts or taking you out to places you show interest in.
The downside to all the passion he has and how much he values your relationship is that he is constantly anxious about you leaving regardless if you’ve been together for days or years. It’s another reason why he shows you off; people that know him would know better than to go for his significant other for as willing as he is to do what has to be done. If he feels threatened in that regard, he’s quick to go on the offensive. If he feels like you’re not emotionally invested as he is, he’s going to confront you about it. Open communication is a must for him; he’s not telling you things about him and his life for you to write him a biography, so if you aren’t willing to be open the relationship is going to die a slow and agonizing death.
Mello is a high maitence partner, but what he lacks in ease he makes up for in devotion and commitment. You will never have to worry about him falling out of love with you or harboring quiet resentment. Not a very universally appealing pick, but an understandable one.
