THE NIGHT SHE DISAPPEARED by Lisa Jewell
I've read The Family Upstairs and it was pretty good, especially the ending. This book was also great in the way it all gathered together in the end. She also left us with a juicy bit at the end with the revelation that Liam knew everything and just wanted to fuck Scarlett over.
I was pretty surprised at how they made me feel sympathy for Scarlett / empathy for her and Lula's relationship before absolutely throwing it out of the window with her assisted kidnapping. Not gonna lie, I was pretty happy that Zack died, just how it proceeded after that was not my favourite part. I just wish there was some build up to that happening, and wished that Lula was just trapped in the tunnels / got herself killed in the tunnels as a twist.
I do appreciate that there are so many women in this book. And so many admirable women. Literally all the men suck in this book, even the baby LOL. So stan Lisa Jewell for giving us the feminist thriller novel we needed <3
Thank you Lisa Jewell, will be following more of your work in the future.

HOUSE OF THE DRAGON as it should have been: episode 1 (insp.)
Viserys I Targaryen had a generous, amiable nature, and was well loved by his lords and smallfolk alike. The reign of the Young King, as the commons called him upon his ascent, was peaceful and prosperous. His Grace’s open-handedness was legendary, and the Red Keep became a place of song and splendor. King Viserys and Queen Aemma hosted many a feast and torney, and lavished gold, offices, and honors on their favorites.
At the center of the merriment, cherished and adored by all, was their only surviving child, Princess Rhaenyra, the little girl the court singers dubbed “the Realm’s Delight.” Though only six when her father came to the Iron Throne, Rhaenyra Targaryen was a precocious child, bright and bold and beautiful as only one of dragon’s glood can be beautiful. At seven, she became a dragonrider, taking to the sky on the young dragon she named Syrax, after a goddess of old Valyria. At eight, the princess was placed into service as a cupbearer... but for her own father, the king. At table, at tourney, and at court, King Viserys thereafter was seldom seen without his daughter by his side.

y’all keep saying how y’all hope ed becomes redeemable and like who tf cares he did anything wrong lmao. pushing Lucius overboard? hilarious. stranding the crew? hysterical. chopping off iffy’s toes? comedic af. y’all always so worried about a character being redeemable or morally right and it’s exhausting. that’s why modern books are what they are now. boring and lame af. ed is morally gray. he’s always been morally gray. he don’t like killin but he likes maimin and he has anger issues. and he’s hilarious when he does all of it.

I'm tired of this overused argument but like, pointing out rhysand countless mistakes/ trying to paint feyre like this underlying woman who actually was the cause of tamlin downfall is moronic as hell. Like I don't know how to tell tam fuckers than spitting about rhys instance of canon asshole-ry doesn't make your ugly ass blonde husband less of an asshole either or erase the fact he's-an-abuser. He aaalways had anger issues BEFORE his ptsd that fucking lulu himself was witness of. Sure, Rhys is messed up especially in the first ones, I'm not particularly opposed to that, but one character flaws doesn't mean another one is free from theirs all of a sudden lmao
And again, blaming a fucking victim perfect or not, from A MAN'S actions is plain old misogyny and just dumb all together. He's a woman's beater and yall should just dealt with it like damn fucking adults with pubic hair already

batman #229
[ID: three photos focusing on Batman's face as he's framed by a yellowish, white comic panel border. Behind him is a blue night sky. The first photo, he's looking to the right and in the third picture he's looking to the left. The middle photo is in the shape of a circle instead of a normal rectangle like the other two and he's looking to the right. In all the photos he's shown in dramatic, yellowish lighting and has his mouth agape in a horrified scowl. END ID]

wanted to read some f/f romance novels set in college while I let the longfic draft rest. already fucked up with the first book I started on because one of them is in grad school (wrong type of college!) and the other is running for congress. there's also a fictional mayor of new york who does not have something deeply wrong with him, which is a requirement for the office imo.
and yet, all of that said, I cackled out loud at how the main two women meet in-person because I got one page of anticipation of how ridiculously it was going to go down. that was good.

sometimes i still like to laugh at the romance book i tried to read that over-pitched being about people in their late 30 or early 40s, one of which was sober and unemployed because of a scandal, and the other was a divorcee with an extremely demanding job, and the book proceeded to be exclusively them reminiscing about their high school romance and recreating it by visiting old locations from their past together, the alcoholism was waved away whenever anyone else wanted to drink, the scandal had nothing to do with the character whatsoever, the divorcee and the ex had the most function besties coparenting relationship ever and the demanding job literally never came up from the first chapter to the middle of the book where i finally dropped it in disgust.
not only failed step one. but literally failed every other step

So this is just genetic warfare and eugenics. Messing with her DNA to make her a god? Sounds pretty bad to me. So, mesmero sucks. But also, the birth of Polaris! Queen of the Mutants! (X-Men #50):
