OMG I can’t believe that it has already been a year since Monster Hunter Stories 2 came out ...

I still can’t get over how great this game is and honestly, it was my favorite game of 2021 !

Hope the fandom will still live on, maybe have some DLC’s, and more importantly a third game !

Belph is a rider that was abandoned as a young child to die, but was instead taken in by a Khezu that raised him alongside its children. One of those baby khezu ends up eventually being his partner, and is named Kiki!

Me and @werewolfofthebloodmoon in Mhs2. WD on the left and I'm on the right.

We've recently been doing co-op quests which has been fun. Can't wait till WD can do the higher ranked quests, it will be fun.

My Grimclaw Tigrex (on the right) is called Grimmjow and my rider is called Tokyo.

WD's Tigrex (on the left) is called Meow, and their rider is called Minus.

My armour is different in this one but I am normally wearing the Kamura garb layered armour.

These two screenshots were the reason for the drawing, since the Tigrex's just looked like siblings and I found that funny. Especially in the second screenshot where Meow looks like they're about to either annoy Grimmjow or bite him.

This week, doing a bit of catchup on stuff I've been obsessed with over the last couple weeks. I did miss doing this last week, so I might do another recommendation of just music over the weekend.

Anime: Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions

Chunibyo, also known as Middle School Syndrome, is a Japanese slang used to refer to that stage of adolescence that many kids go through where they live out fantasy worlds in which they are the coolest, edgiest, most far out character. Most people who go through a phase like this; where they dress up as their edgy OC and pretend to fight demons in public; come out the other side extremely embarrassed that they ever thought an existence like that would be OK.

Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions is about the experience of Yuuta Togashi, who recently started highschool after recovering from a particularly cringey case of Chunibyo. He attends a school very far away from anyone who'd remember that side of him, but he soon meets a young girl name Rikka Takanashi, who is ridiculously deep into her own dark world of Chunibyo.

Rikka soon learns about the depths of Yuuta's painfully cringe past, and commits herself to bringing out Yuuta's dark, cool alter ego again, while stuck in her own delusional world. Yuuta and a few other misfits form an adorable friend group where each bounce off each other and ride the line between maturity and delusions.

The anime is beautiful and characters are adorable. Each has their own arc they are working through, and each grow from the imagination and maturity from the others. The message I took away from this anime was that people may grow and change far from what they used to be, but imaginative fantasies are not always a bad thing.

If you like romance, cutesy stories, fun highschool friendship style stories, you'll really enjoy Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions. And if you were like me, and had your own even mild Chunibyo phase, you'll enjoy it even more.

Videogame: Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin

Are you sick of Pokémon? Yeah me too.

Monster Hunter is an action RPG series full of fun character/weapon design, and fantastic creature design. Although the main series games have an intuitive but deep combat and movement system, they have never been fantastic at world building. Not that they need it, Monster Hunter games are all about the hunt. But the creatures, races and landscape would lend themselves well to a spin-off of deeper lore and story. Luckily, the Monster Hunter Stories series has recently come into existence.

I never played the first game, but this newest entry to the spin-off series is easily accessible as a first entry to the series. Rather than an action RPG, MHStories games are open world, encounter and turn-based JRPGs. I mentioned a couple weeks ago that I've been trying to ease myself deeper into the RPG genre recently, and MHS2 was a very good choice for a dive into JRPGs.

Combat takes 2 main forms:

You control the Rider, your self-insert Monster-friendly main character, who, like the Hunters of the main series, are equipped with weapons you use to fight wild enemy monsters. There are slashing, piercing, and blunt weapons, all of which have varying levels of effectiveness on different parts of different monsters, which helpfully you can have three of, and switch mid-battle.

The Monsties are domesticated Monsters that the Rider has raised from eggs, and they fight alongside you. Although Monsties will typically choose their own actions, you have some level of influence over their attacks. Monsties (and wild monsters too) will fight with one of three types of attack: Power, Speed, and Technical.

During combat, opponents will go in head to heads, and enter a rock paper scissors match, where the winner does bigger damage, and the loser's attack is almost negligable. Speed>Power>Technical>Speed. Although at the start, it may seem a guessing game on when the Player should choose Power, Speed, or Technical, you soon learn that each enemy monster will favour certain attacks over others, and when you learn their patterns, they become easy to read. Ally Monsties also favour attack types, so it becomes beneficial to switch in an ally monster that has a good match up against your opponent.

Rather than dwell any further on the combat, I'll just say that it has scratched an itch that Pokémon stopped being able to scratch ages ago.

Monster Hunter Stories 2 also provides a different take on the world of the series. There are societies, legends, villages of various races, and the Hunters of the main series have their own part in the world that conflict and coexist with that of Riders. The overworld and submaps are beautiful and fun to explore, and every now and then, you will find Monster Dens, which is where you find Monster Eggs, which you retrieve and hatch to grow and customise your party of 6 Monsties.

I won't say anything more, lest I spoil the experience that you really should see for yourself. Monster Hunter Stories 2 is a fantastic, beautiful and engaging game that if you have any passing interest at all in, I reccomend you try the Demo on Switch for yourself.

A little chart to understand my ship, in that case ; Zellard X Gaïana

Gender : Female

Sexuality : Heterosexual, but she is also Homocurious (she also likes doing it with female Zellard)

Race : Wyverian / Crystalling (she has the ability to completely change her appearance : her Wyverian side shows her with red curly hair and blue eyes, as well as a pink dress, whereas her Crystalling form shows her with straight purple hair and a Crystal-like armor, as well as multiples tatoos throughout her body)

Alpha ? Beta ? (Wyverian only) : Beta (though she somewhat seems Alpha as a Crystalling)

Wyverian traits : pink scales from her back down to her hips (the shape ressembles a heart), enhanced sight.

Common Points between them :

It was pretty easy for both to confess their love for each other : in other words, they are not scared to show their feelings to the other.

Both cooks, and they both are pretty good at it.

Overprotective towards one another, though Zellard stands out in that.

Both already had at least 2 relationship experiences before.

Both have a formal attire where they are calm and collected, but they also have an “armor” and are good fighters ; you better not mess with them !

Both have a battle scared body, though Gaïana only has a few that can be seen in her Crystalling form, though they are slightly visible.

Considering the fact that both of them are Wyverians, they both have “heat periods”, though Gaïana has way less periods like this than Zellard thanks to her 50% Crystalling genes.

None of them are awkward at all in their relationship.

Differences between them :

Gaïana can be really fancy and extravagant. Zellard may wear some fancy clothes sometimes, he is way more reserved than her in that regard.

Gaïana often borrows clothes from Zellard, and Zellard doesn’t mind lending them to her : he find it amusing.

Sometimes, Gaïana likes to tease Zellard by using pet names on him. Zellard does it way less, but it’s just to make her regret that.

Gaïana is more outgoing than Zellard. She is also extraverted.

Zellard shows more his affection by using words, whereas Gaïana is the type to show her affection with multiple actions.

Gaïana doesn’t really like bugs (apart from ladybugs and butterflies), Zellard doesn’t mind at all and even helps her appreciate them more since she moved to Rutoh with him.

Zellard definitely has knowledge about Monsties and riding ; Gaïana doesn’t know that much, though Zellard will be happy to teach her more about that, maybe even finding a Monster egg for her if she ever wants a Monstie...

Zellard isn’t the type to like PDA (Public Display of Affection). Gaïana doesn’t mind showing some.

Gaïana can be a bit jealous when she sees her man with someone else, especially if that someone else keeps looking at him with some interest.

Zellard has way more “heat periods” than Gaïana, and they are more virulent than hers.

Alwin Headcanons

- Despite what everyone else is thinking, Alwin was not born in Rutoh Village. Rather than that, he was born in Selelka, the city of snow.

- However, he still lived in Rutoh as he was sent here as a newborn baby by an unknown Wyverian, apparently to protect him as he seems to have no parents.

- His parents are supposedly dead, as thought by Maolo and Zellard.

- At first, it was Elder Maolo that often took care of him, but he will later have to take care of Ena, so it was then Zellard who raised the little boy. Since Ena and Alwin were very close, Zellard often accepted to take care of both of them to help the elder.

- As a child, he was curious and often goes into the wild alone as he wanted to explore. He was mesmerized by the snowy mountains behind the Alcala region, probably because he came from a snowy city. Let you know that he was still a beginner in terms of archery skills.

- At one point he finally goes into Loloska all alone. There, he found an egg that he wanted to bring back to the village. However, the poor Wyverian kid was then chased down by a Zamtrios. Thankfully, Zellard found him, but the latter was viciously bitten on the shoulder by the Monster while protecting Alwin. Suffering from both hypothermia and bloodloss, Zellard almost died from the attack. It was the people of Kuan Village that took care of them. After that traumatic event, Alwin promised that he would train hard to be able to protect his loved ones.

- It was Zellard that found the Kinship Stone that Alwin carries now. He decided to find one when the Legiana was born and he saw the cute relationship between Alwin and his Monstie. He will only start his quest to find it after he felt better of course (though he still carries a shoulder immobilization bandage for quite some time).

- His Wyverian traits : digitigrade feet / sharp fangs / enhanced earing. As for his scales, they are on his arms and feet and they’re bluish-purple.

- Alwin is somewhat able to see different people when he’s battling. They are telling him not to give up and to live on. There are a total of 6 persons that he can see. They all seem to genualy care for him and wants to protect him at all cost. Almost everytime one of them appear to him, he is able to fight back with a new power. He is trying to find a meaning, but for the others, it is most likely people from his family that died and wants to help him live on. It is unfortunately believable that most of his family died and he is one of the only survivors. Because of that, a lot of the villagers thinks that he is unique and that not only he will protect them all, but they also have to protect him too. He is even called “The Golden Boy” by the villagers.

- The only alive member of his family is Shakuna. She will explain that she is the one that brought him to safety, as they were the only one that managed to escape the disaster that happens in their town. (Don’t worry the new town is completely safe, but it took them to have people being decimated to realize how low their protections were...)

Female Zellard, or Zellie ;)

I know it may sound weird, but the Genderbend version of Zellard is canon in my AU.

Although Zellard is a Wyverian, he has slight Changeling DNA. The reason behind that is because some members of his family were Changelings too.

Zellard doesn’t know his family since his parents died ; his mother died before he was born, and his father died a few days after he was born.

He may be born as a male, but Zellard is actually Genderfluid, so he sometimes considers himself as female. However, one day, he finally met someone from his family ; his cousin Musica.

Musica is half-Wyverian, half-Changeling. Thanks to that, she isn’t evil like most Changelings, and she is one of the only female Changelings, once again mostly thanks to her Wyverian genes.

Upon meeting Musica, Zellard gets to know why he was easier to be tricked by Oltura’s voice than other Wyverians like Ena or Alwin : the Changelings were a race created long ago by Oltura herself ; therefore she is most likely to have full control of them while she is rising, although she doesn’t have full control of hybrids and others who have the genes, like Musica, Zacharie and Zellard too. He may not have any Changeling physical appearance, he still have slight Changeling DNA running through his veins. It’s because of those genes that Oltura managed to play with his mind after he was mentally weakened by Red’s death. Zellard may have been the first Wyverian to hear Oltura’s voice, Zacharie heard Oltura’s voice before him, which convince Zellard to investigate further.

Zellard cared deeply for Musica since she is his only living relative (biologically, apparently)? After learning her cousin was Genderfluid, Musica said she could awaken his Changeling genes so he could eventually turn into a female...

So yeah, that’s how female Zellard is canon in my AU.

Kayden is an adventurous and energetic girl that wants to become stronger alongside her Monsties, to the point where she will tirelessly train harder and harder. She easily smiles, but if you get to her wrong side, you will highly regret it, as she is not the type to forgive that easily.

Background :

Kayden was a novice Monster Rider who aspired to be a Rider and was interested in exploring the wide open spaces of the World. She wants to explore the World in order to find some new Monsters she never saw before, and create a Monsties Team with these specific Monsters from other regions. In order to achieve that goal, she planned to leave the village and venture out in the wilderness. She will eventually starts looking for answers about an unexplained phenomenon in the form of a black mist with the help of the various Monsters she will encounter in her journey.

Appearance :

Kayden is a Rider with long pale green hair tied into a high ponytail. She has a tiny fang that comes out of the left side of her mouth, and a turquoise tatoo on her right cheek. She wears an special outfit based on her main companion, a Kurenai Goukami named Livs'kyy, which mainly consists of a solid red armor that protects the entirety of her body, as well as a mask covering her pinkish red eyes. She also sports yellow boots as well as brown arm pads and horns. There is also some sort of mane attached to the back of her mask.

Equipment :

Kayden was often seen with a Nargacuga Sword and Shield Set (Hidden Edge), but she also has a Plesioth Hammer Set (Plesioth Head). Kayden eventually received the Nebulaborne Blade from Gale ; this Great Sword is now her main weapon in battles.

Her Kinship Stone is, like the other Ebon Riders, located on her forehead and is the same colour as her eyes.

Monsties :

Livs'kyy the Kurenai Goukami (Main), Kayden's very first Monstie and closest friend.

Her other Monsties include :

Svynya the Great Poogie, Kayden's TRUE first Monstie that she from an egg got as a child and as a gift from her father, but she rather considers it as her main pet. She nevers sends it into battle ever since it lost one of its eye during one battle, and now protects her precious little piggy.

Nefryt the Jade Barroth, a Monstie Kayden obtains in the deep caverns of Loloska when it was still a baby. It was badly injured and seemingly lost, so Kayden took it to treat its wounds. The little Monster will stick by Kayden's side, not wanting to go back to the icy mountains of Loloska.

Kovyna the Kecha Wacha, the fourth Monstie Kayden obtains after stealing the egg from a Kecha Wacha nest. It is a very peculiar Monster that's always goofing around, and Kayden easily laughs at her Monstie's goofiness.

Ptakh the Crimson Qurupeco, a Monstie Kayden given to her by her teammate Mad because it didn't get along with his Red Khezu. The two were constantly fighting to a point where it was uncontrolable. Kayden absolutely love the Crimson Qurupeco's singings.

Piyushevyy the Kumashira, Kayden's final Monstie that was acquired during a visit in Wrath's hometown. The bear Monster was seemingly quickly attached to Kayden, so Wrath decided to give her the Kumashira, as he knew that she will take good care of this literal big plushie.

Trivia :

Although Kayden does not appear in Monster Hunter Stories 2 : Wings of Ruin, she is briefly mentioned alongside the Ebon Riders by Yavana Hellberg.

Although she may appear as pretty thin, she is actually quite strong physically.

Her favourite way of training her team is to face her Ebon Riders teammates regularly. She always battle all of them at least every week. She will first battle Wrath's Deviljho, then Mad's Red Khezu, Shadow's Nargacuga and ultimately, Gale's Silver Rathalos.

Happy Birthday Zellard !

(Because it's his birthday in my AU. After all every character has a Birthday so there is his)

New Headcanons !

(Mostly because ever since someone named Triton was created and is officially with Calypso (whom I used to name Gaïana before she has an official name), my ship is pretty much dead *sob*

I guess I spend too much time with the people of our Discord because it pretty much made me realize what was the best ship (as well as Sexuality) of Zellard xD.

Anyways now I ship him with the 2 cultists that also realized their mistakes and are going through a redemption arc alongside their leader.

These moments when they get closer makes them realize how they complete each other fairly well.

So about the Sexuality Headcanons I had on Zellard, it used to be Biromantic Genderfluid right ? So now you just had Polyamorous to the mix and you got the new one ! (as seen below)

As for the Next Gen, because I have made Zellard's Next Gen already : don't worry they will remain the same. Except their design will change a bit to match more with their other parents.

Lindorië will remain the same too, and Yavana will probably change a bit because I will change her father's design. They both have a redesign because I think they deserve some changes, especially in their hairstyles.

Even their name will change ! Well, at least for Zacharie for now. I don't think it fits him. Now his name is Ixal. And the moment we saw up here was when Zellard learned that he was pregnant. After the adventure with his Nergigante Archangel, and of course after his recovery. The Wyverians told him he was pregnant but he was still so fuzzy and weak that he doesn't remember. Until it snapped as he started to feel sick. So yeah, it's future Kléïo's conception time !

Before : Zacharie (2022) & After : Ixal (2024)

Note that they wanted to have a child, but at this very moment, Zellard thought of how it will go on as conception with Ixal is supposed to be different. Ya know, because he is also Changeling/Switcheroo...

Future/Redesign Zellard (Birthday Special)

January 21st, a.k.a. the first day for Aquarius, marks Zellard’s Birthday ! (At least in my AU). So for this special occasion, I decided to do a fanart of him in my Redesign AU (I can work for Future AU too I guess).

-After a while, Zellard will eventually come back at Rutoh and will also regain the villagers’ trust .

-He learned a lot from humans with a heart of gold and will eventually grow to trust them and open his heart to them like he did before.

-Zellard will have a few scars on his face after the Oltura incident.

-His most visible scar will be the Razewing Ratha scar “carved” on his chest ever since what happened with them and the female elder dragon.

-Like all Wyverians, Zellard has a hybrid form with a monster. His is a Silverwind Nargacuga. However, he will also have a Razewing Ratha form, and more importantly an Oltura form (It will be hard to control it, and he will despise it at first because of his mistakes).

-The first time he turned as Razewing Ratha, he had absolutely no control, to a point where the transformation literally burnt his left arm’s skin to ashes.

-Zellard is one of the Wyverians who have a tail. His is pink with motifs on it.

-Just like most Wyverians of Rutoh Village, Zellard will wear a tiara. He will also holds more jewelry than before (inspired by his concept art).

-He will also have to wear a splint all the time on his left leg ever since everything that happened since Oltura.

-Zacharie and Drey, the two Mysterious Riders that wanted to redeem themselves like their leader, often came to visit as they are appreciated by the villagers for their efforts and their personalities overall.

-Since Zellard had been through outraged hybrid forms (since he had two himself), he always helps people in need when they have to handle their out of control hybrid form.

-Elder Maolo always knew deep inside that Zellard would come, despite seemingly being reluctant at first. It was a test (sort of). Ena always believed it to, and she shows it.

6 Felynes, 1 story...

Beats, Cryo, Fifi, Spex, Navirou and Floof, 6 normal Felynes whose life suddenly changes for better or worse... They were all kidnapped and experimented on by a mad scientist ; Dr. Manelger was his name. They were given Monsters genes and therefore, gain Monster powers. Having lived the same pain and trauma, they created the Numbers :

N.1 Beats has Rathalos genes

N.2 Cryo has Zamtrios genes

N.3 Fifi has Lagombi and Flashbug genes

N.4 Spex has Kecha Wacha genes

N.5 Navirou has Zinogre genes

N.6 Floof has Basarios genes

Together, they were like a family, like siblings, but some of them ended up being more to one another. Beats and Fifi always had a crush to one another, and they finally realized it. Spex and Cryo never thought that they will fall in love, but they did. Floof, however, is the only one that didn’t find love. Navirou, on the other hand, is with another Felyne.

Navirou X Pansy

Yes, Navigating Navirou fell in love ! And it was even love at first sight ! Deep inside, he knew it : the cute Felyne Pansy was the love of his life. He can’t help but protect her at all cost, going as far as to turn into his “Zinogre” form. He always refused to use it, except if it’s to protect or save his loved ones. Pansy will always be extremely worried when he takes so much risks to the point where he uses his alternate transformation. Nonetheless, she deeply cares for him and she wants to be able to protect him the same way he protects her.
