Absolutely need a Netflix series instead of movies. Imagine 45-hour episodes of Enola solving a case and each season there is one big overarching case that comes together for the season finale. We get Sherlock and Enola working together on some cases featuring John Watson, Holmesbury filler episodes, Edith and Eudoria check in from time to time. It would be perfect.

The Tearsmith Review
I just finished it, and I have SO MUCH MIXED FEELINGS. Like the guy Rigel... i don't know about him, he just like whispers and LICKS her, LIKE THAT HIS CHARACTER PRETTY MUCH. i giggled a bit while watching but I also got really uncomfortable especially with Rigel's scenes and after finishing the movie, i started laughing because i just couldn't take it seriously enough. but overall, film-wise from my POV and my refrences, I gotta say, it's not the best bcs it's hard to watch and it seems like it was written on wattpad with the adopted sibling thrope...

Daily Dose of Sunshine
[ K-drama / Medical Drama ]
Where to watch: Netflix
Rating: 9/10
Tumblr media
Warning: Unaliving, mental trauma, mental health disorder portrayals
It's been so long since I last posted a k-drama review. I kind of fell off from k-dramas because of the time they require to finish series. If you've read my manga reviews, you already know that I struggle to finish long series. Anyways, <Daily Dose of Sunshine> is a recent k-drama that follows a nurse in a psychiatric hospital and her journey with her mentality as well.
Amazing story. The story flows really well. It starts kind of dark, which is ironic because of the title, but I loved how it warmed up overtime. The romance element doesn't overpower the message too much. Great balance
Amazing message. The k-drama goes about mental health disorders in realistic and easy ways for the audience to understand. There's a lot of good quotes in this movie. Some parts were kind of soul-healing.
Great actors. Park Boyoung. DO I NEED TO SAY MORE?
As for the downsides:
Iffy story wrap-ups. I honestly don't have any big problems with this k-drama. But if I had to be picky, the solutions to the patients problems were so simple and "easy". They kind of bothered me a little. I understand it's because you can't stick on one story for too long, but it took away from the realistic aspect.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Overall,
If you're big on learning more about mental health disorders or advocating for them, I recommend picking up <Daily Dose of Sunshine>. I remember praising other content before for tackling what's usually known as "taboo" topics, and this k-drama would definitely join that praise list. I absolutely loved the portrayals of different mental health disorders, how it affects people, and how it affects their family. Great connection between a fun, romantic k-drama & mental health education.

How NOT to write a story
Using a bad Netflix show/Fate: The Winx Saga as a basis
Part 1 - How NOT to start a Story (episodes 1 & 2)
Introduction
Like I said on a previous post, I decided to leave that live action Winx show on while working on some assignments. The show’s quality left a bitter taste on my mouth and the persistent thought of “Man, I could have written something better”. So I decided to use this shit show as a little guide of mistakes and pitfalls to avoid, based on each episode. I would like to preface this by saying that I’m not a professional writer or anything like that. I’m at best an amateur with a huge mouth and a desire to avoid working on stuff I should actually be working on, so ignore any typos because my brain is small and lacking it’s thinking juice. That said, grab some water and grab some blankets, because this is going to be long.
“The first sentence/scene is the most important!!”
The idea that the first scene in a movie/series or that the first sentence/page in a book is the most important is not baseless. From setting the tone of your story to quickly grabbing your audience attention, the beginning of the beginning is going to set up expectations. That said, it’s not enough to simply show a quick action scene expect that to be enough. Whatever you choose to show on the very start of your narrative, it better be relevant later on in more ways than one. I’m talking about the narrative’s themes, arcs, world details, the antagonistic forces, etc.
Now, at first glance Fate’s opening doesn’t seem so bad. It does an okay job at grabbing your attention with some action related to one of this season’s 3 main antagonistic forces. That falls apart, however, when you notice how:
1)The scene as dark af and visually unimpressive. This is meant to take place at a campsite on a magical plane of existence, yet it looks like any normal forest. Idk, put some magical and sparkling moths or something, because otherwise it just doesn’t look like we are in the ‘Other world’ (stupid name but this point isn’t about it)
2)It’s kinda misleading. Blood does appear later on, but not with this touch of gore. It also induces the idea that Fate is a suspense story among other things, and while I guess it has some elements of suspense, it’s all so spaced that it will only disappoint anyone that was looking for, well, a suspense story.
3) The guy that gets killed has little relevance later on, and I honestly think that that’s a waste of potential. I mean, why have him killed if you’re just make a murder mystery with someone else later on? What if instead he was related or friendly to one of characters we meet? His death could have been a stepping stone for someone’s character arc, or at the very least not something that could have been written out with minor modifications.
“Well, the first 2 minutes were not the best, but there’s the whole rest of the episode ahead! Just because they were bad, doesn’t mean that the rest of the episode will be!”
That’s true. Like I’ve said before, the idea that the first scene in a movie/series or that the first sentence/page in a book is the most important is not baseless, however it ignores the fact that your audience can pay attention for more than a few seconds. “It gets good later on” is something we all probably heard at least once, is it not?
In Fate: Winx saga, however, the opposite can be said.
“Let’s speedrun our characters introductions!!”
Just after some guy gets murdered, we cut to a little montage of our main cast arriving to Alfea, and I think it was good, surprisingly. It could have shown a bit more of each the girls personalities and possible struggles, but it wasn’t bad (until it was). Despiste this show being about the Winx Club, the first character that our protagonist, Bloom, meets is Sky, her love interest. Not Stella, the girl who she met first in the og show and who was supposed to tour her around (something that happened for 2 minutes, while showing nothing of Alfea because Stella being a bitch is more entertaining that a fucking school for fairies). Not Aisha, who is her roommate and the only character who is sensible in this entire cast. Not ‘Terra’ nor Musa, but Sky.
Then again, they did remove the ‘Club’ part of the title, so it’s very clear where their priorities lies (and it’s definitely not ‘showing real and genuine friendships between women).
Fine, whatever. At least Sky is an important character to this show. Riven, on the other hand, is not. I always found him annoying in the original show, but in this iteration he’s just the worst. And yet he’s important enough to also make an introduction before any of the other girls? Ugh.
Then we have Beatrice, one of the other antagonists in this season, and you can tell that by the way she talks and glares at others. But her introduction is just…there? She goes to talk to Farah/Faragonda, says some shit and leaves, and that’s it. I don’t want to compare this iteration of the IP with the original show too much, because I think it could have still worked even with so many differences and spins and twists, but damn, it’s just so dull when compared to the original. It’s not threatening, nor funny, nor mysterious, nor charismatic in any other way. It doesn’t even hints at what her deal is. It’s literally “she’s a villain, bye”.
The rest of the main girls introductions are fine, and it shows well what their purpose is in this iteration. Aisha is there to babysit Bloom, Terra is there to be the girls main punching bag, Musa may have some future character arc and is there to say obvious shit (I don’t think I need miss Empath’s help to know said character is upset when they are visibly upset), and Stella is there to be a bitch constantly.
The main problem with all of these characters introductions is that: they happen so, so fast, with barely any room to breath. And speaking of barely any room to breath…
“So like, how do we explain this to the audience?” “Eh, just tell’ em”
Sometimes, exposition is inevitable. Sometimes, you need to sit down an explain wtf is going on for a few paragraphs, maybe a page or two. Fate: Winx Saga doesn’t take a few paragraphs or a few pages to explain it’s lore, backstory, world building, or anything really. It’s entire first episode (out of six, mind you) has many chunk a of pure, and I mean PURE, exposition. And unlike the story’s suspense, it isn’t sprinkled across the episode.
You have a scene where someone is explaining things to Bloom, then the scene changes, and they start explaining something else. You don’t get the joy of discovering something by yourself or seeing the information naturally unravel before your eyes. The information is laid on your plate like pasta without any sort of sauce, and just as you finish eating, more and more is placed. And the worst thing is- they don’t even say anything really interesting? If the pasta was like, some high quality shit, it would still be a drag to eat so much of it in one sitting, but at least the starting bites would at least be somewhat enjoyable.
It’s uncreative, boring and doesn’t flow well at all. And to have all of that right from the beginning would make anyone watching it for the first time likely decide to drop it immediately. Seriously, take this episode as an example on how not to relay information to your audience and don’t do what they did.
I’m sure the world you have built is super interesting and detailed and full of nuances you just can’t wait to share with your audience. But restrain yourself. Too much is going to make what could be appealing into a turn off.
This post has been foi on for a while now, so let’s end on a cliffhanger!
I still have a lot on my mind regarding this show and writing tips and pitfalls in general, however I think that it’s best to restrain myself and leave stuff for other posts. With that said, I’ll probably talk about the writing of the characters and the worldbuilding aspect of it more in depth next, so maybe come back next week?
Also, just saying that if you enjoyed this show, I am very happy for you. Seriously, I may despise this piece of entertainment for many reasons, but I still found some enjoyment there (even if said enjoyment was seeing my friends suffering a bit) and I must say, I was even s bit upset when they canceled it so soon. What I’m trying to say is, something doesn’t have to be ‘good’ for you to be allowed to enjoy it and don’t feel ashamed for liking something that most found dumb or whatever other negative descriptor you have in mind.
Anyways, that’s all for now. Have a fabulous day/night and keep creating, even if it’s not something you consider to be perfect!

DA:A Honest Review
Ok so, imma rant cause this is tumblr— home to screaming into the void.
Dragon Age Absolution isn't as good as everyone thinks it is.
Before you hate me lemme ask: Can you show this show to someone who has never even heard of dragon age Exactly.
That's not all.
So like I mentioned, DA:A is confusing as hell to anyone who hasn't played or read anything in the Dragon Age universe. As someone who is in the publishing industry and has tons of family in said industry, it's like a fanfiction made into an animated series. For a fanfiction this show would be... okay...? But the quality is definitely not for an offical Netflix show.
My biggest issue with the show is the coloration of the characters. Not with the main cast but with the Tevinter nobility. Is someone going to tell me that everyone with hatred towards the elven slaves is white?? When the Fandom knows damn well that Tevinter is a place based on fhe middle east and ancient Greece/Rome. All the nobility, Templars, and Mages within Absolution that aren't slaves are white whereas the all slaves are mixed!
I understand making POC characters own slaves is something people are nervous about, but Dragon Age is a world that is not discriminatory of color. But rather the race of a character.
Next, the main cast.
Everyone has already heard the complaint that Mirium is too simular to Fenris. To that I both agree and disagree.
I'll be honest the main cast is so incredibly boring they made them interesting. I can't even remember the names of the cast apart from Mirium and Qiddy.
Because the series is so short, you don't get to know the characters apart from: Former slave retribution and her mage gf, gay dwarf who is mad at former slave for??? Reasons????, the Frenchman, and the comedic qunari.
Lightening round now.
1) There is no true character development.
2) Animation is a shitty rip-off of Critical Role's Amazon Prime special.
3) The general vibe this was a HS DND campaign
And lastly,
4) The villain loosing all interesting themes of breaking the cycle and wanting to end slavery but in a dark way (AKA with blood magic) to loosing all his character to be "big bad slaver."
I remember saying a while ago not to dog on the newer writers coming in cause the older ones were leaving, but if DA:A is any warning, I'm terrified that DA:DD is going to be total nug shit horrible. Patrick Weekes has his work cut out for him.
Alright I'm done. Someone take my soap box.

Growth and Acceptance with Na-Heedo and Baek Yijin
Tumblr media
Kim Tae-ri and Nam Joo-hyuk as Na-Heedo and Baek Yijin
Released in early 2022 but set in 1998, ‘Twenty-Five Twenty-One’ quickly garnered an emotional audience whose hearts the cast and characters took away with every new episode. It was not only new for the audience to witness a special story like this, but was fairly new to the actors that played Na-Heedo and Baek Yijin as well.
Kim Tae-ri, popularly known for the critically acclaimed film, ‘The Handmaiden', showed a different side of her acting as Na-Heedo, a loud and expressive girl, compared to her past roles which are often associated with serious and sensitive topics. Nam Joo-hyuk, on the other hand, expressed more of his emotional side as he played the troubled adult Baek Yijin, who struggles with worldly affairs from finding a job and reuniting his family due to the effects of the IMF Crisis.
Tumblr media
Baek Yijin and Na-Heedo in the early stages of their relationship
GROWTH
If you watch the first three episodes and then skip to the last three, you will immediately notice the significant contrast in how the characters behave with their surroundings and the vast difference in their maturity and priorities.
I tried my best to transfer here, but all of my plans failed. That is why I’ve come to show you my fencing skills. Please watch and decide whether or not you want to train me.
Episode 1 of ‘Twenty-Five Twenty-One’
Na-Heedo is what I’d consider an odd but idealistic character to look up to. It is obvious, if not exaggerated, how much passion Heedo has for her skills in fencing. And without her brazen character and confidence, no one else would have gotten the success she did if put in the exact same steps as the latter gold-medalist champion. While Na-Heedo works her way up to the national finals as a professional fencer, Baek Yijin scores for jobs to survive in the world and eventually lands the working title of a News Caster and Journalist. All throughout, we witness the dynamic duo’s friendship, and later relationship, unfold.
Neither of us is at fault here. And yet we’ve grown this much apart. It just happened. -- I’m not trying to say who is right or wrong. It’s just that…this love isn’t supporting me anymore.
Episode 16 of ‘Twenty-Five Twenty-One’
And finally, the time came. Na-Heedo and Baek Yijin have grown into the individuals they were always meant to become, only with the help of each other’s presence and support. Even with every episode, there were already significant changes and symbols which represented the characters’ growths, some of them being as little as the changes in the way Heedo wears her hair (from a scrunchie always tied halfway at the back of her head to loosely displaying her straight hair) and the way Yijin dresses (from sweaters and jeans to button-down shirts and slacks).
Tumblr media
Na-Heedo and Baek Yijin's final embrace after falling apart in Episode 16
ACCEPTANCE
The main lesson I received from 'Twenty-Five Twenty-One' is that things happen because they’re supposed to. As a part of the audience, if you were asked the question – Would you rather witness the couple grow apart from each other or have them not experience their growth and love at all? –  would you really choose the latter option?
Even if we didn’t know each other, we would still be together like now. Because we have the same destination.
Episode 6 of ‘Twenty-Five Twenty-One’
That line, delivered by Nam Joo-hyuk, struck me and plainly summarizes my point. At some point in time, every one of us and the people we held special in our lives, had the same destination but different endings. Heedo and Yijin both had the same destination of success in their minds, and because of that shared destination, they were able to reach even farther although presently apart.
‘Twenty-Five Twenty-One’ was able to bring us the sad realities of life and romance while keeping the light-hearted and humorous feels of the early 2000s K-Dramas. A must-watch for those who crave love, pain, and truth.

About 4 episodes into Heartbreak High and I hate harper. It's probably temporary bc I don't know what happened at the festival but I can't forgive her for letting Anmerie take the fall and then taking her crush. Both of them.

Alice in Borderland is such a good series, and I want others to know about it. It focuses on a variety of themes. Throughout the series, we're introduced to characters that were/felt like outcasts. As they’re forced to participate in life-threatening games, they are also forced to face their pasts and either accept or reject it. Many are able to form bonds and change as individuals. The series is also constantly challenging the value of what a person is. Who should survive? Challenging questions like these push the audience to think deeper. But at the end of the series, there's a hopeful message that inspires the audience. And that is, you don't need a reason to keep going.

Lockwood & Co Review
I didn't expect to like the series as much as I did. The trailer was somewhat cheesy as we're some of the action sequences but the mystery storytelling is great. The three main characters have 3 distinctly different personalities and it shouldn't work together but they do in the best of ways. I'm also a sucker for found family and they really are the cutest especially George doing domestic things.
The added horror involving the supernatural adds much needed suspense throughout and some jump scares. The budding romance of Lucy and Lockwood is an exciting avenue to play out across the season.
I would rate this show a solid 8/10 and I hope a season 2 can happen quickly.

thoughts on | the midnight club by christopher pike
thoughts on | the midnight club by christopher pike
Christopher Pike’s The Midnight Club was an unexpected hit for me. If it weren’t for the fact that it is soon to be a Netflix series, created by Mike Flanagan and Leah Fong with a different director at the helm every other episode, I most likely would have never picked it up. It’s the kind of book I would expect there to be a Teenage Scream episode on (a great podcast hosted by Kirsty Logan and…

Drifting Home
[ Anime / Coming of Age ]
Where to Watch: Netflix
Rating: 7.5/10
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Time for more movies! This movie is a very coming of age movie. Two kids who used to be best friends find themselves stuck in an apartment building in the middle of the sea with their friends. It’s a story about trying to find their way home and realizing how important home is.
Interesting concept. I think it could’ve been delivered better, but tbh the thumbnail art is what drew me into this movie. It’s so pretty and mysterious! It serves it’s purpose very well.
Great art. The art is really good, and I liked how nature and trippy things tied so well together. Some trippy movies goes all-in on the trippy aspect, but this played nature into it well. It made the trippy scenes feel more realistic.
Character development. They freak out for a bit longer than I expected, but their growth by the end is satisfying. The main characters especially were built well.
As for some cons of this movie…
I wish the plot was explained more. So many questions are left even after the movie ends. I get that most of it is symbolical, but I would’ve liked it even if they blamed it on a godly, religious figure at the end. Did it actually happen or were they delusional kids lol? We’ll never know. I think the plot could’ve been fleshed out a lot more.
Tumblr media
Overall,
<Drifting Home> is a great, unique coming of age movie that has to do with friendship and how the death of family can change us. I liked how they talked about how important family is, even if you’re not blood related. Anime is something a lot of older teens/adults watch and enjoy, but I personally think this would be a great movie for kids too. The plot could’ve been explained better, but they definitely nailed the nostalgic, sad moments and the satisfactory ending perfectly. The flashbacks scenes flowed well with the entire storyline. I loved it! Give it a try if it’s movie night for you!

Sandman on Netflix is amazing.
Yesterday I finished watching #Netflix #Sandman . Maaan, what an amazing ride, one of the best comic book to TV series adaptations I've seen in quite a while. I loved the show
There are a few things I would have loved more, like Constantine actually being John or the Etrigan and Martian Manhunter cameos. But still great propduction and great way of capturing what the story is about.
I was watching and there were some scenes were I was: "Oh my, they got it right! Just like in the comic book panel!". I was fanboying the show very hard.
The production is so good. Like actually watching that world coming to life. Of course there was some stuff they had to adapt, but overall wholesome.
Please watch it, we don't get adaptations with such care like Sandman very often.

Komi Can't Communicate Episode 15 Review
It’s Over Just After Its Begun?!?This is without a doubt the strangest placement of the opening credits. They appear when Najimi shows up at Katai’s lunch date with Tadano. Ends during Shoko’s hunt for the baked potato man. By the time the opening credits run? It’s only a few minutes before the episode ends! This has to be the weirdest placement of the opening credits yet! Does this mean… A…

'The Witcher' Season 3 Review: Henry Cavill's Final Season Is A Mixed Bag
The Witcher, a well-known franchise, is back on Netflix. Returning for a third season after The Witcher: Blood Origin, which was poorly received by fans of the show or the books. Netflix has once again chosen to use its two-part structure for this season of The Witcher. This is a structure that I tend to hate as there is always a month way between the ‘seasons’. Season 3 Part 1 is already…
