“Okay I’m going out now, you three be good okay?” You said, throwing your bag over your shoulder, giving each cat a fuss on the head. “Pepper, you’re in charge,” throwing a smile at the black cat, with slowly greying fur, you headed out.

You couldn’t help but grin when you saw a familiar face, Eddie was leaning against his van, wild curls blowing in the wind as always. “Hey you,” he said, matching your cheesy grin.

“Hey.” Letting your lips brush his in greeting, you felt his hands come to rest on your waist. “You look very cute today,” he complimented. Your face flushed at that, you and Eddie had been together for a few months now and you were still feeling those jitters.

“I got you something,” you said, pulling a small pouch out of your bag. “Oh yeah? What’s this?” Taking it in his hands, he pulled the tie, letting a ring fall out.

It was twisted silver around a deep blue stone, that appeared black when it wasn’t in the sun. “Oh baby, this is beautiful. You make this?” With a hum you nodded, pulling a chain over your head, you undid the clasp.

There lay Eddies skull ring, “Hey I was looking for that,” he laughed.

“Sorry, I didn’t know your size so,” your face was warm at the admission. “You’re so cute,” taking your face in his palms, he pulled you close.

Meeting your mouth with his own, you sighed into the kiss, pulling yourself closer, holding onto his t-shirt. “Keep kissing me like that, and we’re going to have to go up to your apartment,” Eddie mumbled against your lips.

“You could … if you want to.”

“Are you sure? You’ve kinda been weird about me ever coming up. You hiding a husband up there?” I laughed, shaking my head.

“You’re the only one I’m interested in Eds you know that.” He tried to hide his smile, but failed big time, unable to not share a toothy grin with you. “Then why haven’t you invited me up?”

Pushing away from him slightly, you slid the old and new ring onto his fingers. “Well we’d have company.”

“Oh?” He cocked his head to the side, “You’ve got a roommate?”

“Try three. Three incredibly cute, yet needy roommates.”

“So you’ve got a husband and kids?” he joked. “Try three kids, well they’re basically my kids.”

Eddies face scrunched in confusion. “I’ve got three cats, my little voids as I call them. Pepper, Salem and Binx.”

“You have cats?” You nodded, “And you never told me?!”

“Well I’ve had issues before when I’ve dated people. They didn’t like them, wanted me to get rid of them, so when I refused we’d just fizzle. Think you can tell a lot about people by the way they treat cats.”

“Babe! I love cats, oh my god we have to go be introduced.” Eddie grabbed your hand and pulled you back towards your apartment. “Eddie! We were meant to be going for lunch.”

“Forget lunch, this is so much more important.” Eddie bounced on his toes like a small child waiting for you to unlock the door. You were almost in shock at his excitement, most people weren’t fond of your cats.

But as you had learnt, Eddie Munson was not like most people.

Opening the door with a push, you were instantly met with the sweet sounds of chirping and meowing. “I know my loves, I’m back sooner than we thought.”

You heard the door close behind Eddie, who stood in awe, looking at the trio of cats. The three small creatures looked at him wide eyed. “Oh my god, they’re so cute.”

“Eddie this is Pepper, my oldest girl,” You stroked the salt and pepper cat, her big yellow eyes staring up at you.

“This is Salem,” the other female cat looked up at the mention of her name, big green eyes, a piece of her ear missing.

“And this is my boy, Binx. He’s the newest addition.” Binx was smaller in comparison, but still looked like his older sisters, only orange eyes and sharp features look much different.

“Oh they’re beautiful,” Eddie walked over quietly, holding his hand out so they could sniff. Binx walked over with ease, sniffing for a second then bumping his head into Eddies hand.

Pepper followed after, giving a soft purr when Eddie scratched behind her ears. Salem wasn’t too sure, the shyest of the trio, she sniffed Eddie then made her way to you.

“She not a fan of new people?”

“Not really, took her a while to get used to me. Found her about 3 years ago on Halloween, kids being real mean.

“It’s why I have three black cats, people think they’re witches cats. Don’t want the bad omen or whatever, but they’re just big fuzzballs.”

Salem jumped up onto your shoulder with ease, resting there. “Did you want to hang out here?” You asked Eddie, taking a seat next to him, on your second hand, emerald green couch.

“Would that be okay?”

“Course bubby. I’m glad you like them, I was real worried you’d do the same as others and tell me to get rid.”

“I’d never, they’re lovely.” He smiled as Binx climbed into his lap. “Baby Binx,” you spoke softly, “I was scared you wouldn’t wanna be with me, think I’m some cat obsessed witch.”

“You’re a very sexy witch.” Letting out a chuckle, I pushed a lock of Eddies hair behind his ear, “Thanks babe, you’re not too bad yourself.”

With a smile, his attention turned back to Pepper, who was meowing to get his attention. “God maybe it was a bad idea to introduce you.”

“Why’s that?”

“You’re gonna pay more attention to them than me!”

Will, Jonathan, and Joyce Formed a Special Trio

If Eleven is the main character in Stranger Things, the Byers family is the conduit through which she flickers. Will’s disappearance in the first season spurred the Hawkins community to rush to his aid. The tight-knit camaraderie between Will, Jonathan, and Joyce juxtaposes the stereotypical family composed of kids and teenagers. Parents and children are supposed to fight and bicker in television and other media, often to build the main conflict of the story, but the Byers family already underwent that trauma offscreen.  Lonnie Byers (Ross Partridge) makes a brief cameo in the first season, flexing his standoffish demeanor and abusive nature. It’s clear that the Byers patriarch doesn’t possess much empathy for his ex-wife or his sons. Jonathan valiantly steps into the father, husband, and big brother role, amalgamating into a combination of responsibilities that no other character on the show could dream of emulating. 

Jonathan Binds the Byers Family Together

Jonathan’s multifaceted arc in the first two seasons made him one of the series’ most easily dissectable characters. Stranger Things often differentiates itself from other shows by keeping the antagonists separate from the main characters. There are no Walter White or Tony Soprano-style antiheroes in which fans must compromise one part of their moral compass to appreciate the character. One might think this makes the series boring, but it’s the opposite. Jonathan was proof that a nearly perfect brother and son can still be fascinating to watch. After Will was found in season 1’s climax, he was taken over by the Mind Flayer in season 2. Jonathan again stood by Will’s side as his little brother felt outcasted by friends and society at large. Schnapp and Heaton’s chemistry often leads to tender, humorous exchanges like this one in which the boys remind the audience that being weird can be a human superpower in its own right.  These moments became few and far between in seasons 3 and 4. Will and Jonathan were relegated to minor supporting characters as the aforementioned new additions took center stage. Will at least gets to tag along with Mike, Dustin, Lucas, and the other younger friends. Jonathan often only appears in a few small scenes with his girlfriend Nancy (Natalia Dyer), and the writers even flirted with pushing Nancy back into Steve’s arms in the most recent season. Jonathan spent the majority of season 4 high on marijuana and frolicking around in a faux buddy-comedy routine with the one-off character Argyle (Eduardo Franco).  The decision to waste Heaton’s work from the first two seasons with a 180-degree personality change made no sense. Jonathan suddenly seemed careless, distant, and uninspired, but not in a dense way that could be unlocked by further character development. Little-to-no time was spent on him. While some fans might concur it is a necessary evil to take screen time away from older characters when expanding the world of Hawkins, it certainly transforms Stranger Things from a show about family into a show just about monsters and romances. 

Jonathan’s Enhanced Role in Season 5?

Many theories point to Will being one of the critical pieces to defeating Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) in the fifth and final season. His connection to the Upside Down and the evils underneath the surface should open up opportunities for Jonathan to lend his ears and counseling once again. Jonathan grows on an individual level when he aids others. When locked out of his family’s life, it stunts his ability to shine as a listener and an empathizer.  Jonathan’s best scene from season 4 again features a tear-jerking moment with Will. On the cusp of coming out of the closet, Will needs Jonathan more than ever before, and his brother responds supremely to the task at hand. The poignant conversation validates that the Duffers haven’t completely forgotten how to flesh out the Byers family. When the world gets too enormous for the characters and the audience, Jonathan serves as a connector to the most human elements of the series’ thematic thesis. He may not be as funny as Steve or as neurotic as Robin, but Jonathan symbolizes the good in all of us. In a show shrouded in darkness, Jonathan’s presence will be instrumental to forming a satisfying, optimistic conclusion in Hawkins, Indiana.

TO THE MOON

With their new album INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY, WATERPARKS are diving deeper than ever before. The result is an exorcism of deep trauma and the sweet afterglow of catharsis.

Between international flights, jet lag and no days off in between, it is a miracle that Awsten Knight isn’t face down in a pile of pillows. For the past two weeks, Knight and his band Waterparks have been head down in a run of massive shows throughout the U.K. supporting British rockers You Me At Six as well as a series of intimate appearances at record stores with some of the band’s most die-hard fans. It was a landmark run for a group who have hit the road relentlessly the past year-and-a-half, with sold-out North American and European headlining tours, a top slot at the 2022 Sad Summer Festival and even a “bucket list” opening slot for My Chemical Romance. Their latest milestone? They played to 10,000 people — their largest show in the U.K. region — at London’s historic Alexandra Palace. Exhaustion should be Knight's baseline, but instead, he's as chipper as ever when he hops on Zoom back home in Los Angeles. There's only one problem. The bandleader has been on vocal rest for days leading up to this very interview.

“Dude, my voice feels so shot,” Knight confesses from his living room couch. “We did 12 performances back to back, then combined with really short cut-up sleep on the flight, 1 just feel, ugh.” Sleep deprivation aside, Knight is almost at a loss for words (not from the vocal rest) but because the experimental pop trio he formed 12 years ago have unlocked another level of fandom where new listeners are still flocking by the droves. “It turns out there are a lot of people [in this world].” Knight quips, referring to his newfound fans. But in reality, global domination doesn’t really seem too far off.

Knight barely has time to slow down. The band are set to release their fifth studio album, INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY (out April 14 via Fueled By Ramen). But the self-professed workaholic has never known any other way. “It's a really hard mentality to shake,” Knight reveals. “When we were a local band, we didn't have any family connections in the music industry, and no one cared, so you had to take on every role. Even though we are not local anymore and get to play arenas with our favorite bands, if I'm not actively doing stuff to push the music, then I don’t know if anyone else will."

In some ways, Knight fears downtime or stillness because that's when he feels like his brain will start to turn on him. He admittedly functions better when he's working on something creative, whether that’s writing a new song or simply designing streetwear for his clothing brand hii-def. “It's not necessarily the most healthy thing in the long run, but people have worse coping mechanisms,” he laughs nervously.

But Waterparks remain his main focus. The trio, which initially formed in 2011, began to truly put the pieces together the following year when Knight enlisted his now-best friends, guitarist Geoff Wigington and drummer Otto Wood, to round out the lineup. “Otto loved classic rock and bands like La Dispute and Touché Amoré, whereas Geoff was all about EDM," Knight recalls. “We all had different tastes, but at the core of it, it's guitar and drums.” Their individual musical backgrounds helped craft the genre-less sound they have now cultivated.

It wasn't until 2016 when Waterparks finally released their debut album, Double Dare — an intentional choice. “I always felt like if no one was looking at us, why put out a large body of work? I wanted to do cool shit as opposed to oversaturating and waiting until enough people [actually] wanted to hear it.” There is a common adage that you have your entire life to write your first record and six months to write your second, to which Knight agrees, and from there, the band began making records like clockwork.

With those albums came carefully curated eras — a moment in time with a clear aesthetic, theme and overall mission statement. While always writing music from a subversive and experimental perspective, it was when the band released both FANDOM (2019) and Greatest Hits (2021) that they began to stray from the confinement of genre and inaccurate labels. Knight himself spoke out vehemently about being boxed in by the term “pop punk. “I learned [during that time that] you can’t control everybody, and you can only frame the narrative so much,” Knight explains. “Obviously, we grew up loving and still loving blink-182, Green Day, Sum 41 and Good Charlotte, so it’s in our DNA to a degree, but I just don't want that label because it’s so synonymous with the past and what cynical dickheads or mega naysayers say is just for preteens and kids. However, the biggest reason I didn’t want that label is that I know [exactly] what we are capable of and what our output is.”

Take, for example, the breakbeat madness of the FANDOM single “Turbulent” or the distorted experimentation of “Numb” from Greatest Hits. Nothing is off the table for Waterparks. The group join a cohort of other trailblazing acts like Bring Me the Horizon and Paramore, who both successfully pivoted away from the late Warped Tour circuit in favor of mainstream appeal without losing any substance. “There's a song for everybody, and I once tweeted that anyone who doesn't like Waterparks just doesn't like Waterparks yet,” Knight says confidently.

If you have yet to be on board with the band's music, you've at the very least been entertained by — or seen — Knight's fiery social media presence.

It's undeniable that Waterparks’ meteoric rise has stemmed from the bandleader’s unofficial side hustle as a social media celebrity. And at times, his online presence can feel truly monolithic in scale, something Knight has attempted to analyze over the years in many songs, including the aptly titled “You'd Be Paranoid Too (If Everyone Was Out To Get You)" When asked if his status as an extremely online figure has influenced the band’s latest album, INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY, Knight isn't entirely sure but reveals that he has had to set boundaries nonetheless, as someone who's regularly met with constant praise and vicious internet trolls. “I try not to let it influence things too much [lately], and with therapy, I've learned that you can only control yourself. However, that doesn’t mean I'm not still vulnerable in the music that I write.”

He tackles the subject on INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY with closer "A NIGHT OUT ON EARTH" and parts of the song “RITUAL,” where he recalls when he felt things were “caving in" around him due to the pressures of constant attention. “There are people who listen to Waterparks who aren't on Twitter. and then there are those who view the band in this bubble where it's just them and the people who reply to the tweets,” Knight resigns.

But beyond the topic of social media, Knight gets admittedly “introspective” on the record. When asked to discuss the overall lyrical themes and concepts behind INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY, he takes a deep breath and delivers a warning: Things might get a little turbulent.

“There is a love story throughout the record that is expressive to and for other people, but the album itself has to do with overcoming, unlearning and growing past religious guilt,” Knight explains. “It's something that I've struggled with for a long time.” On “FUNERAL GREY," he delivers the punchy line “baptized in my spit,” which is a playful twist on a weighted subject. The theme of religious guilt doesn’t just apply to the overall lyrics of the record but also extends to the album's striking cover art, which at first glance appears to be an image of a blue frog over a red backdrop; in actuality, it possesses a much more poignant meaning.

“Frogs have always been one of my favorite animals,” Knight reflects. “However, when I learned that frogs were seen as dirty and unclean in a biblical context, it was interesting to me that something that I saw as so good, natural and beautiful could also be seen as a bad thing through a biblical lens.” In other words, the concept of shame plagued the charismatic bandleader for as long as he can remember, and INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY was the moment for Knight to finally face his trauma head-on and “come to terms with himself” once and for all. That explains why a majority of the new songs possess “hypersexualized” energy — a conscious rebellion against a conservative past. “Growing up in church, you're taught that everything is so wrong and bad. I always felt like shit, so [this album] is the breakaway from that specifically.”

By overcoming his religious guilt, Knight was able to tap into an evolved sense of self-worth that he’s since applied to his very own love life, which he details on the album's stripped-down ballad “CLOSER.” “My concept of love has changed throughout the years, and that song is about [looking at the past] and realizing that when I was younger, it was maybe more of an obsession. Now I'm taking it apart and learning more about love and the way I present the current version of myself to other people.” Inversely, there is the alt-radio-ready anthem “BRAINWASHED,” where Knight admits that he still wrestles with the idea of true love, constantly making sure that he’s not just wrapped up in the “honeymoon phase.” Knight jokes that this track and “FUCK ABOUT IT” which features a guest vocal spot from blackbear, are “polar opposites,” as the latter couldn't be further from the “hyperfixation” he details in “BRAINWASHED.," once again proving that he feels the most comfortable when inserting juxtaposition wherever he can.

Beyond the emotional clarity that Knight gained during the creation of INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY, it's the album's sonic risks and exploration that he is the most fired up about. Though Knight wanted the band to return to their more guitar-driven and organic roots for certain parts of the LP, much of the record ventures into eclectic territory, with hyperpop, trap, synthwave and even subtle elements of hard rock and nu metal. “RITUAL, ‘A NIGHT OUT ON EARTH, ‘REAL SUPER DARK’ and ‘ST*RFUCKER' are the craziest instrumentals we have done ever,” Knight exclaims. “I love the idea of taking something like a guitar or my voice and making it sound entirely like something else” “A NIGHT OUT ON EARTH,” however, is what Knight describes as “the biggest production flex,” and it most definitely shows. “There's fucking elephant sounds in there and weird Batman villain-sounding horns — it's evil and heavy, and not to mention, the outro is just game over,” he says.

Beyond production, Knight pushes his voice and stretches the idea of what constitutes a strong hook on INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY. With “END OF THE WATER (FEEL),” Knight is at his most “bombastic,” in a “cartoon-like” state, weaving falsetto melodies that are meant to shock. “I always make a mental note when I hear a song that makes me go…" He pauses, imitating an explosion. “For me, that's when I hear some high-ass vocals that I'm not expecting.” Even on the first day of demoing “END OF THE WATER (FEEL)” in his home studio, Knight was already so confident in the song that he called longtime producer and collaborator Zakk Cervini and “essentially” forced him to come over to his house right then to help finish it. “I also want the record to show that I had a mustache [during this time], too,” Knight laughs.

With collaboration on the brain, Knight is the first to admit that for many years, he was precious about his art and was hesitant to work with others. However, during the COVID-19 pandemic and quarantine, Knight changed his mind, which was evident on Waterparks’ previous album, Greatest Hits. This time around, Knight, who's an outspoken fan of the U.K. boy band One Direction, finally got a chance to live out one of his dreams by working with esteemed songwriter Julian Bunetta, who co-wrote beloved One Direction classics like “Olivia,” “Infinity” and “Best Song Ever,” among others. “I flew to [Julian's] place in Nashville, and we ended up making five songs together, two of them being ‘FUNERAL GREY" and ‘BRAINWASHED,” Knight recalls. And while he still plans to keep the majority of his music close to his chest long term, he won't rule anything out. Knight would undoubtedly jump at the chance to work with everyone from Post Malone and Damon Albarn to Donald Glover and Toby Keith.

Now, with the band's new LP incoming, there raises the question: Does Knight feel a sense of relief after both exorcising his deepest traumas and inviting listeners on his journey to self- discovery? "I still feel pressure with it," Knight concedes. “It would be a lot easier if only strangers heard this, but everyone in my whole fucking life is going to hear this album, so that's what makes it strange." But he's never let any awkwardness or controversy hinder the artistic output. "I wasn't not in trouble when I put out a song like [2018's] 'TANTRUM' where I listed a bunch of dudes I wanted to kill, calling out by name," Knight acknowledges. Though his lyrical choices have sometimes resulted in strong reactions, even within his close circle of friends, Knight can't help but accept that he is meant to be unapologetic. "At the end of the day, I'd rather make the coolest fucking thing, rather than hold back and make something that wasn't that good."

Pressures of lyrical vulnerability and transparency aside, INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY is Knight's attempt to "normalize” the catharsis he finds within songwriting, which ties into the album title itself. "Intellectual property is the mental space you give to something in your head. The 'property' may be the thing that you are struggling with. By materializing it and giving it its own world, it's actually a great way to express it and then, eventually, expel it,” he explains. "I want this album to go to the fucking moon." ALT

Jack was the best part of writing this fic for me tbh. Bucky was fun, and Buck was funny. But Jack was hysterical. He does not get paid enough for dealing with all of this nonsense! He had a lovely night at the officer's club, and now his morning has turned to chaos because he forgot to sync his schedule with Harry and Buck to make sure someone was watching the troublemakers! My favorite line to write was him shoving toast in Curt's mouth to save his life!

We need more Jealous Buck in this fandom, period. He's always so stuck in his head, but I think he'd be very aware of how everyone is a little bit in love with Bucky. Of course, Bucky thinks Buck is being silly, but he'll still kiss away Buck's frown every single time someone flirts with Bucky.

If you've never seen Callum with his blond hair, go look it up or go watch Boys in the Boat because he is so so pretty with his blond locks. I also think it makes him look younger (idk if thats just me) so without his mustache, he looks like a babyfaced replacement. Every person on base is blushing and dreaming about shooting their shot with him! Kidd has to issue a warning to not stare too long at Bucky or Buck will sense it and take revenge.

Festival Season

I am a massive fan of MegaTen games. I love everything about them; the battle systems, characters, and overall world. I fell in love with the summoning and fusion systems of these games almost immediately and longed for other franchises to do something similar. It was basically Digimon Fusion before Digimon was a thing. Who wouldn’t want to Lego two Pokemon into a goddamn MewTwo? The missus introduced me to this brave new world with the purchase of Digital Devil Saga so long ago. It was one of the first gifts I ever got her. Watching her play that sh*t really awakened something within me. It was like watching my kid brother playing Final Fantasy IX for the first time but with, you know, violent monstrosities. Way back then, during the golden age of the JRPG, on the PS2, we made it a point to play all of the obscure titles. Nippon Ichi and Atlus were our bread and butter. We had copies of Stella Deus, every DIsgaea available, and even Soul Nomad. No one talks about Soul Nomad. One day, she came home with Persona 3. On that list was Persona 3 vanilla. Bro, after we booted it up and those first few notes of Burn My Dread popped, I was hooked. I must have put three hundred hours into that game. I conquered everything I could in that game, romanced every option, and completed one hundred percent of that sh*t. I unlocked every Persona on just two runs and readily did it again when FES released. The Answer was kind if disappointing but I didn’t mind running through the enhanced world of P3 once again. And then I did it one more time when P3P dropped, though, admittedly, Portable is my least favorite of the lot. Persona 3 opened my eyes to a world of RPGs beyond just your Final Fantasys and Dragon Warriors. Because I enjoyed this one game so much, I was open to trying out others. I wouldn’t have touched Magna Carta if not for Persona. I would have missed out on Rogue Galaxy. Wouldn’t have given Shining Force EXA a second thought. If I had never played Persona 3, I would have never played 4 or 5, and that sh*t seems so bewildering to me because those games are some of my all-time favorites. In fact, for a long while, Persona 5 was my favorite of these games. I wrote a whole thing about, about how, while I loved 3, 5 was a close second. It had legitimately closed that gap after Royal dropped but then Persona 3 Reload was announced. Guess who pulled ahead once again.

I got Reload day one and immediately dove into to. It felt familiar, yet, new. It definitely got all the bells and whistles that made Persona 5 so enjoyable but was still definitely Persona 3. I got my copy for the PS4 so, while the presentation is loads better than the original, and it shows, it’s comparable to Persona 5. Having that “side-by-side” experience just solidifies that P3 IS my favorite Persona title and one of my all-time favorite games, period. I was a little bummed Burn My Dread wasn’t the opening song but Full Moon Full ain’t too shabby on its own. More than that, the quality of life changes are amazing. It’s the little things like the Online Saves or the fact you don't get fatigued in Tartarus anymore. I love how the original character designs got a remix, bringing them closer in line with that Persona 5 aesthetic, and boy do they steal from that P5 aesthetic let me tell you! The thing is, though, it feels full circle to me. I remember, way back when I was playing P5 (shout out to Tae Takemi, best girl in the entire game), that P5 feels like the spiritual successor to P3 in every way P4 is not. Don’t get me wrong, P4 is a classic, but it feels out of place in the trio, almost disconnected. Also, I remember hating Teddy. It’s like, did P3 influence P5, only to have that sh*t bleed back into Reload? I don’t know, and I don’t really care. I get to play Persona 3, on my PS4, with the look of Persona 5. I cannot stress how dope that is. Also, Satanael is DLC. You KNOW I bought due and have been decimating the early game! Thanatos is my second favorite Persona, always, Alice is the first (especially after I customize her), but Ren’s ultimate Persona is a strong third. Like, laughably so. There’s just something about summoning a Demon God that feels so…powerful. Also, you shoot God in the face. How can you not love that?

I’m ten hours into Reload and it is everything I ever dreamed  a full-on Persona 3 remake should be. This isn’t that bait and switch FFVII pulled with Remake. No, for all intents and purposes, this IS Persona 3 but with modern game play and graphics. It’s like I’m popping ion the game for the very first time, damn near twenty years later. The Protagonist is as stoic as ever and the city of Tatsumi Port Island is alive with a vibrancy only the power of PS4 could bring. Building this game on the Unreal engine was a stroke of genius because the models are crisp, detailed, and fluid. There are so many little particle effects that make everything pop. The biggest upgrade is the UI. The thing is, I’m old as f*ck. I’ve been gaming since the old NES days. I’ve seen the evolution of video game and, for me, they peaked way back in the PS3 era. When P3 originally came out, I had no problem with how the title was presented. It got a little flashier with P3P and Persona 4 added their own flair, but Persona 5 really went in on the showmanship. P3R gets a bit of that and it goes a very long way to captivating the player. I thought modern hardware would affect the charm of these OG designs, but it doesn’t. It actually enhances them considerably. It’s subtle, but the bodies are longer, the eyes are smaller, and the overall proportions feel more realistic. I kind of love it. I also love the redesigns, so far. I mean, Mitsuru is gorgeous and I adore the new-ish Elizabeth model, but I’m holding judgment until the very end when I get to see Nyx again. And definitely get my ass throttled by her. Now, admittedly, not all that shimmers is gold. The fact that the Answer, the additional part of FES, isn’t included in what is a very obvious FES remake, kind of bones. I hear that it will be DLC down the line and that sucks. I like Metis. Her design was dope. I’m also not that huge a fan of Thanatos’ first reveal being made with in-game models. The visceral nature of that genesis feels lost when not in animation. It’s good in its own way but, goddamn, did that sh*t hit different way back when. These are, of course, superficial gripes because I am having the time of my life with this game! And it’s only the first play through. That New Game is about to slap crazy hard! I cannot wait to run it back with my heavy hitters on deck. Satanael be damned, getting Thanatos and my laughably OP Alice in the mix is going to be the best!

Miramon Arena!

I heard about the idea from Final Fantasy X but basically when you beat a monster you get them unlocked in the Monster Arena

From there you can fight your choice of monsters at your own time

And from completing certain requirements you can unlock monsters and even superbosses

As we know from lore Kara, Nicole and Anesidora love meddling and creating new stuff so this would totally be something they would do

Therefore the perfect Shadow Decree Event would be the Science Nerd Trio deploying Shadow Guards to hunt and capture miramon.

Defeating the Miramon will send them to the Miramon Arena. Defeating the requested Miramon while meet certain requirements will unlock different and exclusive versions

The problem being... there's not alot of playable or easily unlockable Shadow Guards. there's like only 18 so just enough for 3 six member teams

So it'll be a Reincarnation Tower style event where you can unlock the Shadow Guard as you go along

then you just have to properly deploy the right characters for the right hunt and to unlock the right requirement.

afterward you will have an Miramon Arena where you can fight your favorite Miramon at your own time

but ya I think that would be a good Shadow Decree Event

🌱 Ouch! - R!Taehyun R!Beomgyu

🪴 Injury, Crying, Light Angst, Hurt/Comfort

Summary: When Beomgyu and Taehyun are left alone they get into a little argument that ends with a bump on the head.

“No tyunnie! Give it back!” Beomgyu whined, reaching out to Taehyun as he scampered away with his favorite care bear stuffie.

He hoisted himself up off the living room floor and went after the boy. The pair were alone in the dorm and accidentally regressed when they saw an ad for a new disney movie. They’d been begging for time to regress for weeks, but they’re careers were just far too busy. Somehow, by the power of the gods, Taehyun and Beomgyu weren’t scheduled to work like the other three boys were. Yeonjun had an mc meeting to attend and Soobin and Huening Kai had vocal training to do. Then the trio were expected to go to their private counseling sessions. The managers always scheduled their therapy appointments around the same time to prevent one of them from missing out on something. They had different therapists, so it worked out.

Beomgyu and Taehyun had their own appointments the day before. Beomgyu’s got a little intense and took longer than expected. Luckily, his therapist was an incredibly patient woman and helped him organize and process his anxious thoughts before thinking of solutions to his problems. Despite figuring out a few things, Beomgyu was still feeling a bit on edge.

“I’m gonna tell Appa and he’s gonna punish you!” Beomgyu spat, bounding into the bathroom where Taehyun had run off to.

“Nuh uh!”

“Yeah huh! Gimmie it back!”

“No!” Taehyun argued. He held the bear over his stomach and smiled menacingly.

Beomgyu charged him, nearly hitting the wall when his target dodged his attack. He spun around, grabbed Taehyuns’s arm, and forced him to the ground. Taehyun yelped and lost his balance. He fell on his bum and his head flopped backwards, smacking the side of the tub. Beomgyu gasped at the whack and paled. At first Taehyun didn’t react, but his hands flew to the back of his head and he laid down. Then came the tears.

“I’m sorry! I’m sorry! Don’t cry! Don’t tell Dada!” Beomgyu pleaded, kneeling next to his little brother and dragging him into a clumsy embrace.

This only upset Taehyun more and he thrashed in Beomgyu’s arms, crying loudly. His cheeks were painted red and soaked with tears from his hysterics. He slithered out of the hug and crawled a few feet towards the bathroom door before slumping to the ground again, halfway in the hall. The room was spinning like crazy while his ears rang.

“Dadaaa!” Taehyun sobbed.

Beomgyu remained in his spot and stared at him helplessly. He was scared. He needed one of his caregivers to help Tyunnie feel better.

“Call me if you two need us. Don’t kill each other.”

Soobin’s words ran through Beomgyu’s train of thought. He stood up and hopped over Taehyun’s curled up form like a panicked kangaroo.

“I’m gonna call Appa!!” He shouted, running down the hall and around the corner. Taehyun watched him through his tears, still crying on the floor.

“Phone. Phone. Phone. Stupid phone!” Beomgyu repeated as he searched the living room for the device. He found it under a pillow and got it to unlock with the facial recognition.

“Appa…” He mumbled, scrolling through the contact list. He didn’t want to call Yeonjun even though that’s who youngest was crying for.

Taehyun was still wailing as Beomgyu poked his head around the corner, the phone to his ear. It rang four times before the voice he needed to hear spoke through the speaker.

“Hello, what is it?” Soobin asked tiredly.

“Come home! Tyunnie got hurt, Appa! I’m scared.” Beomgyu said frantically, his eye watering.

“Wh- Are you? Hang on, Beomie are you little? What happened?” Soobin questioned, his voice alert.

“Mhmm! Hyunnie is too and he hit his head! Hit it real hard.” Beomgyu started weeping. He was overcome with guilt and worry.

“Okay, okay. Yeonjun and Kai wanted to stop at home for some lunch before our appointments, they’ll be there any minute, baby.” Soobin explained, shooting the two boys a text to hurry up.

“I need to know if Hyunnie is bleeding, okay baby?”

“I dunno! There no red.”

Soobin’s heart rate decreased, but just barely. If Taehyun spilt his head open there would be more problems. He could hear both of his boys crying at different rates. Taehyun was definitely further away and Beomgyu kept sniffing through the speaker. They were terrified.

“That’s good. That’s very good, honey. You won’t be alone much longer, I promise.”

“Okay…A-Appa says we won’t be ‘lone too longer.” Beomgyu said meekly, leaning away from the phone to tell Taehyun. The poor baby was doing his best.

“Good job, I’m so proud of you. You’re doing a great job staying calm for Tae.” Soobin praised.

Beomgyu kept the phone glued to his ear and listened to his Appa say nice things and compliment him. He didn’t verbally respond, opting to hum instead. Two minutes later, the door opened and Huening Kai and Yeonjun ran in from the entry way, kicking off their shoes.

“Who’s hurt?! What happened?! Why did Soobin vaguely tell me ‘hurry home. emergency.’ People can’t just say that!!” Yeonjun panicked, looking around frantically. He saw Taehyun balled up on the floor crying and sprinted over to him.

Beomgyu dropped his phone and started sobbing. He came into view and threw himself into Kai’s body. Caught off guard and confused, Huening Kai awkwardly lowered himself and held Gyu in his lap. The little held on tight and hid himself in his neck.

“Beomie, what happened?” He asked over Taehyun’s cries, rubbing his back to calm him down. Beomgyu shook his head and sobbed quietly. Huening looked to his right, the direction Yeonjun ran and saw the eldest cradling a distressed Taehyun in his arms.

Taehyun was a blubbering mess. He had dropped deeper into his headspace after the fall and couldn’t get the right words out to tell him what was wrong. Yeonjun hushed him, petting his hair. A random swollen spot on Taehyun’s scalp caught his attention. He pressed down lightly to see if it was just Taehyun having a lumpy head or an injury. Taehyun flinched and smacked Yeonjun’s chest.

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry. Shhh, I won’t do that again.” He soothed, rocking slightly.

“Did you hit your head, Sunshine?” Yeonjun asked.

Taehyun nodded and rest his head on his chest, finally calming down. Soobin wasn’t exactly clear on what happened or why they needed to hurry, but Yeonjun started putting the pieces together. He lifted Taehyun and supported him on his hip before approaching Huening and Beomgyu.

“Did you boys regress on accident while we were gone?”

Beomgyu looked up at Yeonjun’s words and whimpered, dropping his head back down. Huening Kai suggested that they relocated to the living room. Yeonjun laid Taehyun down on the sofa with a teether he found on the coffee table and went to grab an ice pack from the freezer. Beomgyu’s eyes wondered over to his little brother and watched him gnaw lightly on the lavender circle, still hiccuping now and then. They were both growing quite tired from the events that took place. Yeonjun promptly returned and slid a soft gel ice pack under Taehyun’s head where the bump was. Then he sat down on the floor where he could stay next to him.

“Okay.” He started. “First, how old are you two feeling right now?”

Taehyun blinked absentmindedly and made a small grunting noise. He showed Yeonjun three fingers, then two, and three again. Beomgyu thought for a moment and mumbled out five from behind his thumb that he was chewing the pad of. The eldest smiled and nodded to acknowledge their responses.

“I have a lot of questions, but right now the most important one is how Hyunnie got hurt.” He explained, keeping a gentle unaccusatory tone. If either of the boys got too defensive he wouldn’t get the answers he really needed.

“He fell in the bathroom ‘cause he took my care bear and I chased him.” Beomgyu admitted anxiously.

“Did you bump into each other?” Huening Kai asked, combing through his hair with his hand.

“I was gonna grab my bear from him but he moved to fast, so I grabbed his arm and we fell. Was too rough.” Tears leaked from Beomgyu’s eyes as he explained.

“Hm, I agree that was too rough, buddy.” Kai commented.

“What gave him the bump on his head?” Yeonjun asked.

“The tub. It went smack!” Beomgyu emphasized with a single clap, looking guiltily at the floor. He heard Huening Kai inhale sharply.

“I’m sorry! Didn’t mean it! Jus’ got mad..” He cried, shaking his head.

“I know, baby. I know, it’s okay.” Yeonjun said softly, moving to cup Beomgyu’s face and look at him.

“We all get angry, and sometimes we do things we don’t mean. It’s important to try and take a quiet minute before acting on those feelings.” He continued. “It was an accident, you’re not in trouble.”

“It’s also important that you call us when you feel little while you’re all alone.” Huening added. Yeonjun nodded along and wiped away Beomgyu’s tears.

“We don’t want either of you getting hurt, but you called for help when one of you did and I am so proud of you for that. Next time, do your best to talk to us before anything like that can happen.” Yeonjun said. He moved back to his spot beside Taehyun and observed his pupils. They were larger than normal, which worried him.

“Tyunnie, sweetie, can you tell me how you felt after you hit your head?” He asked, brushing Taehyun’s bangs out of his face. It took him a second but he managed to get a comprehensible answer out.

“Hurt. Ears were ringy and it was all blurry.”

Yeonjun looked to Kai with eyes that said ‘this ain’t good’

“Okay, you stayed awake right?”

“Yeah.”

“Good, that’s good.” Yeonjun whispered, planting a kiss on Taehyun’s forehead.

It was obvious the second youngest was going to need to see a doctor and get checked for a concussion. Based off his limited description, things weren’t looking good. Yeonjun got a concussion when he was in middle school after falling down a flight stairs and he experienced the same things Taehyun said.

“All this over a care bear??” Yeonjun muttered to himself. He should’ve seen it coming, honestly.

Beomgyu hated sharing his toys and Taehyun loved stealing them. The two were constantly bickering and playing cat and mouse. It was apparently time to get Taehyun his own care bear doll. It didn’t matter to Yeonjun ‘who started what’. All that mattered was making sure both parties were okay and understood that violence wasn’t the answer.

“You guys in here?” Soobin asked quietly, appearing in the doorway.

“Appa…!” Beomgyu slid off Huening Kai and practically climbed up Soobin like a tree to get in his arms.

“Hey, Beomie.” He chuckled, ruffling his hair.

“Missed you.” Beomgyu mumbled.

“Aw, you did? I missed you, too. Are both my babies okay?” Soobin asked, directing the question to the room for Yeonjun or Kai to answer.

“Mostly. Taehyun will need trip to the clinic by tonight. He hit the back of his head on the tub.” The oldest informed, keeping his eyes on Tae.

“The tub? Wh- it doesn’t matter. How about you, Mr?” Soobin asked, tickling Beomgyu’s stomach.

“Okay n-now!” He said through his giggles. Soobin smiled down at him lovingly.

“That’s good to hear. So, what happened exactly?” He asked, looking to Yeonjun for an answer.

The eldest sighed and stood up.

“Come with me. Kai, can you handle these two?” Yeonjun said, pointing to the littles. He wanted to tell Soobin what happened without upsetting them.

The youngest nodded and took Beomgyu from Soobin, encouraging him to play with some legos. In Yeonjun's room he sat down on his bed, Soobin doing the same and started to explain what happened.

"Okay, so...from what Gyu told us, he and Taehyun accidently regressed while we were out. Taehyun, of course, took one of Beomgyu's toys and ran away with it, so he chased after him to the bathroom. You know how those two are." He explained.

"Then when Taehyun didn't give it back, Beomgyu grabbed him and tripped next to the tub. Which is how Tae hit the back of his head on the edge of the tub. He has a big swollen spot on his head, so I’m going to take him to the doctor tonight.” Yeonjun concluded. Soobin sighed, slightly amused by the fact this all happened over a stupid bear. He shook his head and smiled at Yeonjun who couldn’t help but laugh a little bit.

“Those two are something else. We need to keep them in a pen or tied up, so they can’t hunt each other down.” Soobin joked, rubbing his face.

“I’m sure Beomgyu would find a way to escape and Taehyun would bite through the ropes.” The other giggled, flopping backwards onto the bed.

“One minute they’re the sweetest brothers and the next, they’re trying to kill each other. Unsuccessfully, of course. They’re too clumsy for their own good.” Soobin said, copying Yeonjun in laying down.

“We just need to keep track of when they feel close to regressing. That way we can make sure one of us is here to play referee.” The eldest said.

“Hyuka does better with that, yknow the emoji thing he does.”

Soobin was referring to Huening Kai’s alert system he came up with. The boy picked some emoji’s that he gave a meaning to, so when he needed to silently communicate something to his members it would be in a secret code. If he was feeling the need to be little he sent a juice box. If he was partially regressed, a bee. If he was feeling little in a bad anxious way, he sent a rain cloud. The idea was straight to the point and easy to remember. Occasionally, little Kai just spammed random emoji’s he found cute or funny, so that was another indicator.

“We should have them draw charts or get a calendar they can put stickers on. They can just put one on the day it is and then we can all keep track of how long it’s been and all that.” Yeonjun thought aloud.

“Hm! Maybe they can pick certain shaped stickers for how they feel, too.” Soobin added, joining in on the brainstorm.

“Kai will want to do it, too. Youngest child syndrome.” Yeonjun chuckled. It was common knowledge that the youngest of any dynamic wanted to whatever their older brothers/sisters did.

Yeonjun and Soobin finished their conversation and went back out to the living room. Beomgyu hadn’t been very interested in playing with his lego’s and was looking at his reflection in the black tv screen, making different expressions at himself. He was a unique character, but was great at entertaining himself, so they let him be. Soobin took a quick video of his antics, though. If only he had done that when Taehyun stole his care bear instead of tackling him to get it back.

a ranking of the Kingdom Hearts series thus far, by Sora with brief explanations

the games within the tiers themselves are not in any particular order

S Kingdom Hearts: The OG, my dearly beloved. The classic hero's journey. Gameplay was overall fun but definitely had some battles that felt impossible (unskippable cutscenes anyone?)

KH3: An absolute joy to play, I've never had more fun exploring worlds. It did suffer from having most of the main plot towards the end of the game and unanswered questions that were later answered by Re:Mind. The fact that employees from Disney aided with the development of this game really shines imo. A more in depth post about why I loved KH3. Battle was fun but also had difficult moments.

A

KH3D: The game that made me fall in love with Riku. The drop dynamic kind of sucked if/when you dropped in the middle of a boss fight I'm not gonna lie lol. But the story was great. Though Sora & Riku were essentially sent back in time (aka their appearance) the story and especially worlds are not repetitive. Flowmotion was extremely fun to use and the dream eaters were also another fun mechanic. Also the command deck is honestly my favorite iteration of the battle system so I was glad to see its new & improved form in KH3D and was sad to see it gone in KH3.

BBS: The introduction of the wayfinder trio, what a blessing. 3 different stories + a final episode. I loved that Terra, Aqua, and Ventus all had their own very unique playing styles (honestly I was the worst with Terra lol but I got used to him eventually). The first version of the command deck that I loved. Also the first time you could unlock treasure chests during battles (and they saved my ass). Shotlock also A+ loved it and so glad it came back in KH3. Difficulty was pretty standard; mostly a good level with a few really tough ones.

COM: So well written and intriguing. The worlds being 'repetitive' played into the storyline of exploring Sora's memories and it was the first time, so it felt okay. The first curse words of the series lmao aka Axel and Maleficent saying hell. This game pushed the gameboy advanced to the damn max. Also the first game we play as someone other than Sora~ enter Riku in Reverse/Rebirth. The card system sucked ass at times honestly and it was extremely hard to maneuver during certain battles on the GBA but that got a lot easier after the PS2 remake. While I'm glad the cutscenes were voiced for the remake, I will say the voice direction of RE:COM is some of the most awkward in the series. It also doesn't help that they did not put in any effort into changing the lip movements for the English language as they usually do.

Dark Road: Excellent writing and fun characters. Relatively fun gameplay at first, but quickly got repetitive. The good news was they let you use an auto function to cheat and speed through to get back to the story lol. I loved learning the back story to Xehanort and Eraqus and what made them into the adults we meet in BBS and later KH3. Shout out to my boy, Hermod. Never forgotten.

KH2: Character designs are immaculate and there are moments that are absolutely iconic. Had a good amount of fresh worlds while bringing back some beloved ones. KH2 suffered from some awkward voice direction and the game play was far too easy, imo. I beat it on critical mode with hardly any effort (other than the Roxas battle which is unique to the final mix version) and I'm honestly not very good of a gamer lol. I beat the game on my first play through in less than 20 hours which is kind of crazy. Also the 2nd visit to most worlds often feels forced and doesn't add much to the overall story of the game

KHX/KHUX: I barely managed to play KHX so most of this is based on KHUX. The fact that you could change your gender at any time was literally the best invention ever; signed, a non-binary person. I wish more games had that option. The customizable characters were freaking adorable and the options were limitless. The story was well written and intriguing when you got it. But... you had to do SO MANY repetitive endless missions to get to any story. I mean you'd get Disney related story sometimes but I mean like KH-core story. Not to mention essentially having to pay to win unless you got EXTREMELY lucky. And in general I'm just not a fan of MMORPGs so I dipped out after a while.

Days: Amazing story. Xion is my precious baby angel and I love her so much. The sea-salt trio reunion in KH3 was also the one that hit me the hardest tbh. But oh my god, the gameplay sucked. One of the hardest KH games to exist and I definitely nearly gave up on it a few times lol. The DS is just so awkward for KH gameplay and as we all know the graphics were.... abysmal to say the least. But there are some moments that were left out in the cinematic remake which will forever live on in our memory.

BBS 0.2: Really fun gameplay. Customizing Aqua's outfit was one of my favorite things as well and it really gave me hope that it would be a feature in KH3, but alas lol. The story overall was interesting, but it overall had to do a lot of retcons to try and make the past connect with the present so that was kind of awkward lol. Also they improved a TON from early models, but overall bbs 0.2 still looked a little weird at times compared to KH3 which had extra time to be fine tuned. Also it's essentially a KH3 demo rather than being a real game but essentially KH3 was already too massive so it made sense to separate it.

Re:Coded: I'll be real, I hated this game lol. It switching up the type of gameplay a lot was a fun idea in theory but actually playing the game it ended up being annoying. Also, it was essentially a rehashed idea of chain of memories when you get down to it. We explore previous worlds we've seen many times by now with Data Sora. We get little bits of new info but ultimately really the only useful thing is the very end of the game. I did enjoy the cinematic version a bit better; the voiced dialogue made a few moments a more comical.

Melody of Memory: A fun rhythm game, but the fact that it includes story that's important all buried at the end of the game is kind of pointless/annoying? lol. I loved seeing Kairi get her time to shine but I wish it was more than her just narrating over Sora's journeys and then a handful of important cutscenes at the end of the game.

Rory and Clement were both jamming by the phonograph, so the trio joined them, Smiler showing off their sweet moves while Alice talked with Rory and Victor with Clement. Weirdly enough, while Smiler had managed to fulfill the "talk like a pirate" traditions at the dinner table, and Victor managed to fulfill them with a bit of hand-holding with Alice (not sure WHY that counts, but okay game), Alice just could not complete that golden check no matter what she did. The party eventually wound down before she could do so, and she dragged herself off to bed as the guests left and Victor and Smiler took some time to squeal over how adorable the kittens were --

And as it turns out, going to sleep is what finally fulfilled the tradition for her. Because both the "sleep" and "nap" options were written in pirate-speak and thus counted. Okay, game. XD

New picture frame collages! :D Yes, if you have a good family reunion, you unlock some new collage frames that you can use for all your various photos! And you guys know that I need my collage frames, given how many freaking photos are hanging around the Valicer farmhouse. XD I already knew I wanted to use the "one large, three little, all landscape" collage for some of the wedding shots -- specifically the three of them standing together looking super romantic and the three selfie shots -- and I decided that the other two could be used for the actual family reunion snaps! The stacked trio for the various selfies they'd taken with their friends, and the group of four for my favorite shots from their porch photo shoot. Plus one bonus medium-sized picture just because. XD You guys all know I can't resist a good Van Liddelton shot!

Al teaches his daughter from a young age how to harness and control her magical abilities and, unbeknownst to Charlie, trains her on how to commit the perfect murder. As an adult, she goes hunting for potential victims and disguises herself as to not cause a scandal. How would people react if they knew that the Queen of Hell’s daughter is out committing murders when she preaches about redemption and loving her people?

Crowley is the middle child of my trio and is 6yrs younger than his older sister, Magdalene. Crowley is a young man of few words due to being born mute or at least it is assumed because no one’s ever heard him speak. Crowley is the opposite of his sister. He is shy, patient, polite, and a momma’s boy. He enjoys reading, playing the piano, sword-fighting, and drinking tea.  Unfortunately, Crowley was also born without any magical abilities, which made him a victim to bullying and ridicule by Hell’s elite and his peers. Despite his family expressing their acceptance and love for him, Crowley feels shame and feels like a burden. After all, his lineage is made up of powerful individuals. How could he possibly show his worth without being powerful himself?  Until one day, a traumatic event triggers something inside of him and unlocks his hidden abilities. His demon deer / angelic forms are still a WIP and I am in the process of determining how these forms will function.

Damian is the youngest of the trio. This little boy radiates major gremlin energy and you can never predict what this kid has in store, thus earning him the nickname “The Wildcard.” The full extent of his magical abilities is unknown as he develops new abilities randomly without a specific pattern or reason. Unlike his family’s shadow familiars, Damian does not have one because he has the ability to turn himself into a shadow-like entity, which he uses to sneak around as well as zip around when he has the zoomies. This little trickster loves to cause mischief and playing tag. Damian also enjoys spending time with his brother Crowley. Even though he cannot participate in his shadow tag games, Damian enjoys his big brother’s company and has said that Crowley is his favorite sibling (don’t tell Magdalene, though). As an adult, he is somewhat cocky, a womanizer, and a bit of a “bad guy.” But in this AU, I like to keep him at 10-years-old because he’s adorable and silly as a kid.
