Feemor wasn’t oldest child, he was neglected middle child who’s adopted and never seen as the actual son for some fucked up reason and never asked to come home for holidays after he moved out. Obi-Wan wasn’t baby of the family, he was Eldest Daughter held to the highest standards possible mostly impossible, and even given custody of the baby when dad died. Xanatos wasn’t bored middle child, he was shitty brat baby who can do no wrong no matter how much of an asshole he acts. Anakin wasn’t the new baby, he was all dad’s hopes and dreams and if he had survived he would have been both the loved and spoiled in a way that would have created a modicum of balance that his older siblings didn’t get because dad was experimenting with them in ways that fucked them all over and over and now he’s bitter towards the best adult ever who would canonically have left with him if he ever wanted to and woke up in cold sweats thinking about him and worrying about him and loving him, all the rest of their fucking lives, but the situation still wasn’t ideal so he couldn’t see that this was better than he originally was supposed to have.

No, Qui-Gon wouldn’t have done better with him because his track record says otherwise thanks. And no matter what, Obi-Wan loved that little boy and wanted so much for him. I have emotions and they’re wrapping around baby Anakin like the swaddle blanket he should have had all along. Swaddle blankets can be removed while still kept.

i need content of codywan that just started working together like the first few months where their dynamic is cody barely resisting the urge to strangle his general and obi wan being like. already fucking head over heels for him.

like cody was expecting someone highly impressive based on his records so he obviously is excited to work with him cause his batchmates already met him on kamino and genosis and they all liked him which was, looking back, probably a prank on codys sanity and his bastard gremlin vode were absulately dying laughing at him. anyway so he obviously has high expectations and then this slutty "hello there" mf turns up with no self-preservation whatsoever, a feral demon child of a padawan, half the republic tailing him for every bullshit imaginable and beef with EVERY SINGLE SITH EVER???? WHICH HE SOLVES BY ???? FUCKING FLIRTING WITH THEM????? so you can imagine codys not having a great time.

meanwhile, obi wan daydreams about cody constantly. draws up their wedding invitations before even meeting him. praises him every opportunity he gets. kicks his feet and giggles about codys sarcastic comments ABOUT HIM while being in a room with CODY. stops talking in the middle of his sentence when he spots cody across the room and waves at him with the biggest smile possible. sets up regular sparring practices with the vode just so he MIGHT have an opportunity to be close to cody. labels the time when cody accidentally fell on him because of an explosion and touched his lips for 0.00001 milliseconds as their first kiss and gossips about it to quinlan. calls bant regularly to update her on everything cody does ever. buys every kind of tea and caf he can afford as an excuse to talk to cody and go into his courters. flirts with cody 24/7 and blushes tomato red when cody smirks at him and thinks about it so much he constantly walks into walls and tables and chairs and shinies and. breaks a table after cody stubs his toe into it. passes the fuck out when cody carries him this one (1) time, not bc of blood loss or anything simply too much attraction. constantly searches the force for codys signature even when they're not in the same system. calls him disgustingly sappy petnames in every other sentence. corners all of codys batchmates and asks thousands of questions about cody bc he cannot get them out of the man for the life of him and yes, wolffe, he absulately will die without knowing codys favorite color what kind of question is that. cody smiles once a month and obi wan thanks him everytime. cody hands him back his lightsaber for the first time and he proposes, loudly, cody ignores him completely and walks away. convinces anakin and ahsoka to drop "subtle" hints that he would be a good husband.

and everyone around them is having the time of their life watching codys right eye twitch whenever he's in a room with kenobi long enough while the man himself doesn't take his eyes off the commander during the entire 4 hour meeting and blushes everytime cody looks at him without a fail. cody barely refrains from throwing his datapad at his general when he suggests some self-sacrificing bullshit again.

it's truly like:

obi wan, beaming and eyes possibly gleaming with adoration: hello there, cody. how are you today?

cody, grinding his teeth together: fine, sir. wanted to talk to you about this report cause it's seems to be mistaken. surely, you're not thinking of blowing yourself up just so that TWO man, who are not even in any immediate danger whatsoever, can escape. right?

obi wan, brightening even further bc he loves their daily "banter": oh but of course, my dear, they're valuable men and anyway, i promised anakin he'd get to use the explosives this time.

cody, right eye starting to twitch horribly: right, of course, stupid of me to ask. one more thing, general, you wouldn't decommission me for anything i do, would you, sir ?

obi wan: what– darling, of course not. why would you–

cody: alright then [punches obi wan then walks away]

obi wan:

it's said that to this day obi wan still giggles in the most inappropriate times about that punch because cody was SO HANDSOME YOU DONT GET IT MACE THE LIGHT HIT HIM JUST RIGHT AND–

anyway codys hatred lasts till obi wan saves rex by putting himself in danger and when they get back, both bruised and bloody but amazingly alive and obi wan smiles at him like he always does with rex draped across his scarred shoulder, something in cody just settles and thinks. oh. oh. so this is what bly was talking about.

Qui-Gon enjoyed visiting Anakin, Padme, and the twins on Naboo when he could. Mostly he enjoyed working in Shmi’s spacious garden out behind the house.

Luke and Leia, despite being twelve, still enjoyed spending time with him, and he would cherish that as long as it lasted.

He sighed and wiped the sweat from his brow. Despite the cloudy day, it was rather hot outside; he enjoyed keeping his hands busy with the work.

An hour later as Leia was helping him weed, and Luke had decided to take a break and climb a tree, Padme came out of the back of the house; the afternoon sun peeking through the clouds shone down upon her smiling face.

“Time to come inside for lunch.”

Luke leapt out of the tree, and ran inside with a holler of joy.

“Wash your hands!” Leia called after her brother.

“Leia, sweetie, please take the gardening basket into the house for your grandfather.”

“Yes, mama.” The young girl shook her head as she gathered up the gardening supplies.

“Boys… ugh,” she muttered, following her twin inside.

Padme and Qui-Gon both laughed.

Qui-Gon, who was still kneeling in the dirt, winced as he tried to stand.

This didn’t escape Padme, who offered him her arm.

“It seems I’ve grown old,” he mused as she helped him to his feet.

“I noticed.”

Padme had in fact noticed every time the Jedi visited.

She noticed how his hair was now mostly grey, his beard sprinkled with white. How he moved slower than he did years prior.

She noticed how years before, when the twins wanted Qui-Gon to run and play with them outside, that would have been no problem; this time though he told the children that he wasn’t feeling well but that he would love to play a game with them inside.

She and Anakin had worriedly approached Obi wan.

“Is he alright?” Her husband had asked, placing a hand on the older man’s arm.

Obi-wan had nodded knowing the family loved Qui-Gon as much as he did. “He’s fine.”

Obi-wan paused “His arthritis flares up from time to time. It’s in his knees and in his right shoulder where the sith’s blade wounded him.”

Anakin nodded his understanding. He and Padme hadn’t known.

After lunch Qui-Gon volunteered to wash the dishes.

“No, I’ll help with the dishes.” Obi got up from the table and gathered up the dirty plates.“You relax, join Shmi and the children in the living area for tea.”

Qui-Gon smiled fondly. “You’re a good boy, little one.”

“It’s all thanks to the man that raised me.”

#(i haven't actually watched the third ep yet but this is true regardless) #its really funny because basically every Star Wars Fan of my generation is a fan of prequel-era content #because that's what our generation has grown up with as belonging to it! #and 99% of said fans are attached to obi-wan specifically it seems #and i inherited my rather lukewarm fandom from my dad and haven't gone further on my own #so i care on a personal level SOLELY about the OT characters and everything else is secondhand #yes i'm invested in star wars but also i'm not invested in any of the things about star wars that everyone else around me is #i'm well-informed about the franchise and emotionally invested in its well-being #but obi-wan is a blorbo-in-law #(okay i'm also invested in din and grogu but i trust disney so little that i'm holding myself slightly distant from their story) #rambling #i just think it's a funny variant on the Fandom Experience for me personally

Quick heads up, I finally watched the Obi-Wan show after thoroughly spoiling myself so I’d know if anything in it was going to upset/offend me, and I’m probably going to go on a reblog spree soon-ish. I’ll be tagging everything from the show with ‘obi wan show’, so filter away if you need/want to.

Short summary of my opinions on it - Obi-Wan felt like Obi-Wan and was very entertaining to watch as always, I was there just for him and on that front it was a very fun time. Tiny Leia was delightful. I will be skipping pretty much any scene where neither of them is onscreen whenever I rewatch, I couldn’t care less about the Inquisitor drama, although Reva was vaguely interesting in and of herself. It was a pretty contained story so it didn’t have any big conflicts with Legends canon beyond the specifics of the Inquisitors, or at least not big enough that I noticed on a first go through, so I was able to watch it without my brain freaking out on me and that’s a nice change re: recent Star Wars media. Don’t ask me about its overall merits as a story, I was just there to see my best guy without getting too mad about the story around him, and on that front it was a success.

Hit me up if you want any specific spoilers, I’m happy to do that for other folks who may have similarly complicated relationships with the new stuff.

No matter how far he walked, it dragged behind him all the same. A curling suspicion born not from Cody himself and so never quite his to touch or, to drop in pursuit of something better fitting.

Placed there by some other hand, it had never quite sat at home within Cody and yet, remained there all the same. Clinging to his very shadow but always just out of his grasp. He could reach for it and it would almost brush the pads of his reaching fingers. Yet, despite the alieness of the thing, its unclaimed nature, he could never quite walk away from it. Never left behind in the locked cabinet of his past, it followed him, always.

Jango feared loss and it made him cruel. It made him avoid the one thing he might have had to give. Cody was raised by an absence. A shape where a man might once have been. It made Cody's life hard, it made his life difficult. He inherited that fear and it haunts him to this day.

Over the last week, I decided to go ahead with bookmarking all the fics I've recommended over the years on AO3 since I abide by tumblr poll results always (and man pour one out for all the fic that never made it to AO3 or has since been deleted, sooooo many gems lost to time!) and it was a bit more than the ~3,000 I was expecting:

Hopefully, this will be easier than browsing the hundreds of recs posts I've made, since you can filter for any of the author's tags now! These are mostly focused on Star Wars and DC fandom, but I did my time in the anime mines and occasional tours through some TV fandoms or movies. You can dig into everything unfiltered and start your own filtering, or the bigger fandoms you'll find:

MAJOR FANDOMS: Each of these should have 100+ at minimum and, in the case of Star Wars, literally almost half of them are in that fandom. Look, Star Wars fandom might be a trash fire in a lot of ways, but it is ON FIRE with some good fic. (Older bookmarks not guaranteed to match my current sentiments, especially re: the Jedi, but they did catch my fancy at that point in time!)

STAR WARS: - All Star Wars -OR- All Star Wars minus the Obi-Wan/Anakin ship - OR- Nothing BUT Obi-Wan/Anakin

BATMAN/DC: - DC can sometimes be tricky, but you can do a Batman* search and get most of them (though, sometimes Nightwing* or Young Justice* or Superman* will catch some of the others). Honestly, though, you might want to just do a search for what character or dynamic you like and have fun from there, because otherwise you're getting a face full of my Dick Grayson Is The Center Of The Universe And I'm Making That Everyone Else's Problem agenda. ;)

MARVEL/MCU: - Marvel* will probably get most of the various properties, though you may want to filter for Defenders* or Guardians of the Galaxy* if you're interested -OR- Marvel* without the Thor/Loki - These focus a lot on the Thor* fandom if you want to witness the results of like 8 years of constant voracious reading in that fandom (Minus the ship), because, seriously, I read a LOT of Odinson family fic. - Bonus, just do a search for Maximoff* to find some really good X-Men: First Class-verse because, listen, I have been ALL ABOUT the Maximoff twins since long before the movies or MCU brought them over and I will DIE ON THE HILL of "Marvel, make Magneto their bio-dad again or I'm never reading another comic of yours ever".

TOLKIEN/LORD OF THE RINGS/SILMARILLION/HOBBIT: - Tolkien* -OR- Hobbit* -OR- Lord of the Rings* searches will turn up most of my Elf-hunting, I primarily focus on the Sindar Elves, but look I can't resist my problematic Feanorian faves or that I will die on the hill that Fingolfin is the best ever. (You have NO IDEA how sad I am that so much fic on Stories of Arda or FFNET is not easily bookmarked on AO3, sob. I externally bookmarked a few of the bigger ones, but sooo many shorter faves are missing from my recs tag.)

CLAMP: - X/Tokyo Babylon legitimately bums me out because it's not a huge fandom and yet so much of what was written was pre-AO3 and lost when CLAMPesque went down or was never brought over from Livejournal, yet this fandom (well, the Seishirou/Subaru pairing) still burns brightly in my heart.

MINOR FANDOMS: Ones that probably only have under 100 bookmarks (often around the 20-30 bookmarks range), but will at least give you a place to start! I love the number of fanon illegitimate and adopted children everyone foists on Obi-Wan. Korkie, Cal, Anakin, Ahsoka, Luke, Leia, literally every child he comes into contact with, and a few he doesn't, just results in a fandom kneejerk reaction of "that's a dad right there."

(Hells, we see him interact with Nuna and even if that's not his kid, the way he acts is just Pure Dad Mode. Amazing.)

IDK how Ewan McGregor managed to get literally thousands of people to look at his 33yo self (with artificial grey hairs, admittedly) and go "that's a father, right there. That's a bona fide Dad. He's got at least a few kids." but he did it. Maybe everyone--including the TCW team--looked at him holding CGI baby twins and went "oh. Oh we gotta do something with that."
