I admittedly got into RDR2 five years late and I remember being confused seeing older comments of fans completely dogpiling on Mary Linton (née Gillis - a character who I interpreted much differently than these users did), but assumed maybe people would have grown up a bit since then and understand Mary better. Unfortunately, I still see so many people completely misunderstand and shit on Mary's character and I want to talk about it (this meta will be my opinion AND biased as a Mary defender, but idc)

I cannot stand it when people, particularly male fans, call Mary "manipulative" or someone who just "uses Arthur when it's convenient to her" because that just isn't true, and it really shows that a lot of the people who just trash on her have no idea what they are actually talking about.

Labelling her as someone who uses Arthur just for her own personal conveniences makes no sense when you consider the fact that so many other characters, including members of the Van der Linde gang, have also asked Arthur to do things for them, including requests that are much worse than anything Mary could have asked for (you know, like Strauss for example?). Not only that, but if Arthur rejects Mary's help, she doesn't get angry - if anything, she understands why he may be reluctant to help her. If Mary truly only wanted to use Arthur, she wouldn't have shown how grateful she was for his help and how much she truly did miss spending time with him by asking him out on a date to the theatre.

And to those who criticise her for not being able to leave her family sooner: do you... not remember the time period this story is set in? All of RDR2 (1899 - 1907) takes place before women got electoral equality with men (1928) and during the main story's time, women were very much under the control of their husbands - or their fathers if they were not married. A big reason as to why Arthur wasn't able to marry Mary in the first place when they were courting each other was because her father didn't approve of his outlaw lifestyle (also, I am unsure if Mary ever alluded to her marriage with Barry Linton being an arranged one, but I lowkey got that impression - perhaps her father wanted to severe the relationship between Mary and Arthur completely by arranging a marriage for her with another man who was also from a seemingly middle-class background/very much not an outlaw and ensure the relationship between her and Arthur would end).

Even if she had more of her own autonomy, we must remember that Mary is part of an abusive family unit. She often tries to excuse her father's terrible actions even though she knows how awful of a man he has become over the years. She is isolated and is hopping from one temporary shelter to another (Valentine, Saint Denis, etc) - she is a widow, she cannot depend on her father obviously, she cannot depend on her mother since she died, nor could she depend on her brother Jamie since perhaps she thought that she was meant to be the source of dependency as the older sibling. Mary said it herself in her goodbye letter (if Arthur rejects to help her) that she truly had no one else to turn to. Arthur was literally the only other person she could ask help from and even then, it seemed like a last resort after not interacting with each other for many years before her first mission and her being apologetic for taking up his time.

Mary holds a lot of regret and remorse for how things ended and it is clear she still thinks about what could have been between her and Arthur. When she fully accepts that she doesn't want to continue living such a miserable life because of her family, she makes a big leap in suggesting she and Arthur run away together, a parallel to Arthur's proposal years before, showing that she has grown and no longer wants to accept a life she feels trapped in.

People who criticise Mary for not being able to leave her family + the life she has always known behind should also consider how Arthur is the exact same. He is as much of a victim of this unfair circumstance as Mary is, but we have seen how he couldn't leave the gang life behind. It was what he died for, after all. He failed to meet the promise he made to Mary that he would run away with her after getting some money and ensuring the gang members' safety - which technically isn't his fault since this was pre-Guarma, but Mary couldn't have known about that. To her, he kept making promises he couldn't keep/getting dragged into violent crime life and she couldn't bear to continue having false hope anymore.

It's a shame that Mary has been given such a bad rap by certain fans who have mischaracterised her. Her story is a sad one and so is her love story with Arthur. I will always love and defend Mary (+ the other main female characters of RDR2) and I truly wonder how different her and Arthur's lives would have been if they managed to run away and get married (TB ideally excluded) and how happy they would have been.

Adam's death had happened two days ago.

And instead of grieving, you sat in court.

“Listen,” Sera sighed, she was visibly annoyed by you ever since you and the army got back from hell, “I understand your concerns, however, we can't just stop exterminations because a handful of executors had been murdered.” She looked at the other angels, then she nodded, “We are already training angels to be prepared for the next extermination in six months, hell's overpopulation must be dealt with and sacrifices must be made in order to reach that.”

You huffed, got up from your seat and slammed your hands on the table, “Are you fucking serious, Sera? We lost Adam, I lost Adam. This is not some tiny sacrifice that we can allow to just happen. They successfully killed Adam, the first man and the leader of our army.”

The other angels eyed your behavior with judgment in their eyes, none of them seemed to agree with you and ever since the last trial with Charlie and Vaggie, Emily wasn't allowed in court again so she couldn't back you up on this one.

You were sick of it, sick of heaven and its rules. Adam died and they all acted like it wasn't a big deal, like Adam's death was a sacrifice they all were willing to make and never talk about again. You were having none of it.

“It’s not like he was some ordinary bitch we can easily replaced, for fucks sake. He was-” Sera harshly interrupted you. “Enough of that. You have been questioning our methods for far too long. We, as the angelic court, made a decision.” Silence filled the room for a moment. Sera cleared her throat, then continued, “We have decided that you shall no longer stay in heaven with us. Your questioning of our methods, decisions and rules showed us that you don't belong among us. So we informed Lucifer. You will be experiencing the rest of eternity in hell among the other sinners.”

You couldn't do anything. Nothing would change their mind, they made their decision and it seems like that had been the plan for a while now and this trial was the last thing that needed to happen for them to actually do it. So you accepted your fate, “I’d rather be down there than up here with you, willingly sacrificing and murdering human souls.”

Arriving in hell was surprisingly soft, you had expected more blood to be spilled.

The first thing that caught your attention was a sign that read ‘Cannibal Town’, you didn't pay any mind to it though. You had to find a place to stay, so matter how shitty and small, just some place safe - well, as safe as it gets in hell. You walked the streets, purposely ignoring the sinners that dared to look your way. The white feathers of your wings surely were noticeable, so it wasn't really something you could give them shit for, but having all these pairs of eyes on you made you feel rather uncomfortable, especially because they were the eyes of sinners.

That was all before you felt something sharp piercing through your left wing, you wanted to turn around to check what was going on but you fell to your knees as the pain doubled. It felt like sharp teeth tearing on the sensitive muscles. You screamed loud enough that sinners outside of cannibal town were able to hear you and that only drew more attention to you and the situation you were in.

Your screams filled hell as the cannibals continued to feast on your wing, ripping and tearing on it with their teeth. There was blood, all you could see was the sticky golden liquid that spilled from your wing and covered their faces as they continued.

You tried to get away, tried to shove them away, smash their skulls, anything. But nothing worked. And when one of them bit down on the base of your left wing and you pulled away, trying to escape the unbearable pain that you were in you heard it. You were able to hear them hearing your wing off.

A scream even louder ripped from your throat as you ran, finally able to put space between you and the sinners that caused all this pain. You ran away from the cannibals, one wing still somewhat intact, the other gone.

Out of reflex you flapped your wing, tried desperately to get off the ground and in the air but with just one wing that wasn't possible. So you continued to run out of cannibal town. Where you were heading to you weren't quite sure of, you didn't even know where exactly cannibal town was located. All that you knew was that there was pain that increased with every little movement you made.

Your mind went silent, static was filling your ears as you tried to flee from everything, from the pain, the cannibals that weren't even chasing you down, from all the pairs of eyes that were watching. Until you crashed into somebody. Both of your bodies crumbled onto the floor, the person underneath you let out a grunt of pain as the air was knocked out of both of your lungs.

That must've been it, you were as good as dead.

You got up quickly, ready to run again until a hand wrapped around your upper arm tightly, the claws of the creature dug into your skin which resulted in you flinching and another scream. Another hand was used to cover your mouth to keep you quiet and your eyes widened, that was the first time you actually looked at the person you had crashed into.

The person that was standing in front of you reminded you of Adam, you quickly shook your head at the thought though. Adam was dead. The person that was standing in front of you had horns similar to the ones that once were attached to Adam's helmet but less glorious and smooth and more demonic. His skin was almost white and while Adam used to have human looking teeth, this creature’s teeth were razor sharp. The wings attached to the creature’s back were made out of pitch black skin, the texture looked similar to leather and it reminded you of how the executor’s wings looked. His robe was ripped open on his chest, angel blood had dyed the once purple fabric golden and a wound that seemed to be healing was therefore on display.

Why was this creature wearing Adam's clothes?

And then realization punched you right in the face.

“Adam,” you mumbled and slowly moved towards the person that had once been an angel. The brunette looked down at you once you had calmed down a little and his eyes were filled with something you couldn't put a name to.

"Yeah?" Your attention was provoked from the screen, and you stopped kicking your feet in the air to see what your savior wants.

Opening the door, he peeks in to observe you for a bit. You can see the man has gone somewhere earlier this morning, hence by his usual red war paint around his eyes. Guess you just didn't hear him go out since technology keeps wasting your senses, with a bit of sleep deprivation, but you weren't doing much to fix that.

"Good morning." Nightwolf says, seeing you shielding yourself from the day with your covers. "Sleep well?"

Glancing up at him, you just shrug.

"You didn't sleep yet, did you?" He sighs.

"Nope."

"Right. Anyways, there's someone I want you to meet." Nightwolf tells you.

Your face already sulked. New people? Disgusting. "Can you tell them I just said hi?"

Nightwolf sighs and opens the door more, leaning against the frame. "No, Y/n. I know you aren't one to be around people, let alone meet, but it's someone special to me."

His explanation somewhat connected with you, but you didn't fold quite yet.

"Please? Just this once. I don't ask you for much, but it would mean a lot if you did."

Gods, it's true. You'd feel like more of a shitty person if you reject his request like you do most of the time.

Sighing, you turned off your tablet and set it aside. Removing the blanket from your messy hair, you sat up. "Fine. Just give me a moment."

The strong warrior smiles at your acceptance and thanks you before closing the door and giving you the time you need to fix yourself up.

When you stepped out your safe space, you refer to as your room, Nightwolf waited for you, offering his hand. Without thinking much, you took it despite feeling too old to hold hands with someone as a parent. But, not admittedly, you just feel safe with Nightwolf.

"Be aware, they are much more outgoing than you, and I did tell them you're rather shy. I still hope you could get along, though. I think you'd like them." Nightwolf shares.

You only were thinking on who it is. Maybe someone from his tribe? A girl, maybe? You didn't care for a mother figure as long as she didn't coddle too much.

Your father figure brings you to the living room, and let's go of your hand. You stand a bit awkward as you examine who the guest is.

It was a man. What catches you off guard is his glowing eyes. It's not the most abnormal thing you've seen. You'd ask Nightwolf to summon his animals so you could play with them. But you weren't really expecting someone that barely has visible pupils.

He also has a tattoo in his shoulder that glows up as well, which was pretty cool to see. But his eyes... you really should stop being into creepypasta.

"Fujin. This is Y/n. I... saved her from the Black Dragon." (mm lore) Nightwolf presents you, placing comforting hands on your shoulders. "And, Y/n, this is Lord Fujin. He's a close friend of mine."

A lord, huh? That explains the eyes.

Fujin walks to you two, with a very friendly smile. "Why, hello, Y/n! Nightwolf has spoken of you a lot! I'm very pleased to finally meet you." He extends a hand.

There wasn't much you had to say, but you hesitantly took his hand, shaking it. "Thanks... Nice to meet you, too... Lord Fujin- oh!"

You get pulled into a sudden embrace, but you didn't respond negatively to it. You glanced back at Grey Cloud, and he was rather unexpected of it, too. However, you knew the god didn't mean harm. He's just happy to meet someone close to his dear Nightwolf.

"You can just call me Fujin, little one. We are both close ones of Nightwolf, are we not?" He pulls away and pats your back, looking down at you with such a comforting aura.

"Right." You look away, getting flustered.

Nightwolf finally steps in and leads Fujin to the kitchen. "Care for any tea?" You could hear him ask as they both go to another room. You take the chance to scramble back to your room and process what just happened.

An hour gone by, and you could hear chatting at the front door. You open your door to take a peek. It appears Fujin was about to leave.

Contrary to what you thought earlier about meeting new people, the white-haired man was quite interesting to you.

Turning around and spotting you, Nightwolf gestures silently for you to come and say bye to the special guest. You listen and approach them, still looking at Fujin.

"It was nice meeting you again, Y/n," Fujin bows to you. "Maybe next time I come by, we can spend time together! I can bring you a gift too- do you like clouds? Or sponge cake?"

Wow, he's very energetic for you. You look at Nightwolf for some type of guidance.

"It's up to you." The shaman says. "You can trust him."

"I'm okay with whatever you give me... or if you want to hang out a little, I guess." You shrug.

"Great!" Fujin then looks at Grey. "I'll see you soon when I break from my duties again."

Thoughts began brewing your mind as you noticed the change of tone in Fujin's voice, and the very sincere look he gives  Nightwolf. Especially the hand placement on the shoulder, your caretaker's hand placing over that one.

Fujin left, and you stood with Nightwolf trying to process things. "'Close friend', huh?" You say with sarcasm, raising your eyebrow at the tall man.

Nightwolf sighs, yet nods. "Indeed. 'Close friend.'" ~~~~~~~~~~~~

⊱ he's SO awkward. He tries to act tough but it only adds onto it and it's noticable he's stressing even if he's trying to hide it

Okay, so jumping here. I've been thinking and imo the 'Lilith' is Eve in disguise and Rosie is Lilith theory still holds true. This is brought to you by me going "We know Viv is a shitty writer, so from the writing already available, where would she lead the plot NOW?" and by my tinfoil hat.

We know Lilith is somewhere in Heaven (maybe even in Eden itself). Unless she pulls the weirdest explanation out of her hat for why she took a small vacay for 7 YEARS abandoning her daughter (with whom we know she had a good relationship with, IF that part of the pilot is still true. She never stopped to explain what parts of the pilot are still true, ffs.), Lilith would never. I don't even think she:

1) Would be allowed in Heaven, even by making a deal with Adam.

2) Adam's pride is too big for him to simply accept such a deal and Lilith's pride would be equally big imo. This interaction would never work.

So that has to be Eve. And Adam *has* to know that that's Eve. Or he doesn't, idc. Point is, it's far more likely by normal logic for that to be Eve. By Viv logic...? Not so much.

Which brings me to my second point! Rosie and her character. I did kind of feel the Mary Poppins vibes a bit, ngl. Horrible redesign, but oh well... The way she reacted to Charlie, her going "yeah, singing totes works here, in the *cannibal* colony!" and her giving that love advice + "we all did things we aren't proud of" + the fact that she's a "hellborn"? She has to be Lilith, sorry. Also also I feel like cannibalism isn't even such a big deal??? In the show I mean. It's literally so cartoonish it simply becomes a hellish quirk for some inhabitants. Sure Alastor, you're a cannibal, boo-hoo. I don't feel threatened by any of them, is what I mean. And even irl, I feel like yeah, it's gross and most likely getting yourself sick, but what makes cannibalism truly bad is the act of *killing* that person, ye know? In Viv's Hell that can't even happen, they'll just respawn, no problem.

And my final reason issss: Viv just ran so fast past 4 seasons worth of plot that imo she backed herself info a corner. The only things keeping the plot going are...Alastor's deal and who he made it with. It's probably Roo or Eve (or Lilith if Rosie is just Rosie), but I have a feeling like it can't be so simple with her, she has to pull a super complicated sayan explanation to make it seem like she just had us all guessing the wrong things, she's suuuuch a literary genius. And she loves musicals a bit too much (Adam is literally just Beetlejuice minus everything interesting about him), so pulling a Sweeney Todd sounds very in-character for her.

Now, speaking of Alastor....I haaaate how she destroyed his character with all the swearing and the petty edgelord-ness. She's not smart enough to write a smart chaotic presence/maybe potential villain. There, I said it. She should open a psychology book or some shit (she should've hired psychologists to coach her about writing about topics such as SA, addiction, sadistic/criminal personalities and so on, but we know she never put such thought into her work). Or at least a sensibility reader for her plot, smh. The overall tone of the show is jumping around faster than a bunny on electrolytes.

And as always, Alastor and Rosie have more chemistry than Charlie and Vaggie literally the "main" couple. They seem like a 30s married couple, tbh.

Also also super confused about Alastor's microphone and how she can hand it over to Charlie??? Why would he do that??? Are we supposed to understand he now cares about her? Handling his (presumably from the Adam fight) source of power to her just like that?? TWICE?!?

I understand his final lyrics are supposed to be "holy shit, I almost died for these people, what is wrong with me???" in a nutshell (+ that part about the contract), but we were never SHOWN how he became more attached to them??? We just have to believe him based on the talks with Rosie and Niffty respectively. What a joke. (Niffty got partially restored in my brain, at least).

Why didn’t you like the current Daredevil run?

I'll do a speed round here we go:

- Horrible character assassination on everyone especially Matt and Elektra.

- Zdarsky was v clearly inspired by the mcu Netflix show so the run had a severe case of mcu-ification

- The way he wrote women was atrocious (examples: Elektra, Kirsten, Mindy, literally everyone else)

- The shitty retcon to Elektra's backstory going from the sheltered sweet girl that loved her father sm that when he died it broke her to the point of grief and revenge that she became an assassin and it shattered her worldview to the stupid fucking backstory the mcu tried pulling of her being a spy sent by the Hand to recruit Matt.

- Whitewashed Kirsten AND gave her blue eyes

- the obnoxious way of how Matt was written in terms of religion to the point where he went from caricature to straight up crusader colonizer preaching

- Matt is so horrible in this run this is the most OOC he's ever been it legit feels like reading an mcu dd fanfic from someone who barely watched the show and only took word of fanon and saw gifsets

- Zdarsky tried grabbing story plots from previous runs and executed them horribly to the point where he only grabbed the worst shit from it (the ableism, infantalization, and sexual assault)

- Daredevil Elektra as a concept; it doesn't work. I'm sorry, cool outfit and all, but the Daredevil mantle isn't like the Spider-Man one where anyone can wear the mask. Daredevil was specifically for Matt to process his trauma of losing his father and used it to gain justice where the system would fail for his city. His upbringing fits the mantle and the only person who would fit that mantle is Sam Chung. With Elektra it doesn't work and it's on par with the whole "wife takes the husband's last name" but worse. My friend @thosemintcookies has made better points about this.

- Whitewashed Sam Chung and made him just sit at a cave waiting for the Beast or some shit

- Speaking of the Beast, the Hand being the big bad guys of the whole run sucks. Can we leave the Hand behind please the ninja clan isn't the ultimate dd villain.

- Foggy is just there. He doesn't do much and he's just THERE. It sucks. And he throws around the term catholic guilt for no fucking reason. The guilt Matt feels is regular guilt please shut the fuck up Zdarsky.

- Brought back Mike Murdock and did some decent writing on him only to kill him off. Cool, what was the whole point of that.

- Pulled a gotcha on making us think that zdarsky killed off Kirsten in a train explosion but it turned out she was fine which was so foul. Daredevil comics are NOTORIOUS for fridging female characters so that shit was just unacceptable idc argue with a wall.

- Checcetto's art style sucks I'm gonna be honest. The novelty of it being pretty ended v quickly as soon as he drew poc and holy shit he cannot draw them nor can he draw any other expression.

- Did I mention the ableism? And the infantalization? And the fetishization of Matt's disability? No? Okay well this post covers it all here.

- It gets into racist territory too with how they write Sam and the Hand

- This romantic mattelektra agenda makes my skin itch they're not romantic they're tragic their whole deal is that they could never go back to how they were as lovebirds in college. Soule broke up Kirsten and Matt and they kept it like that for this shlop I'm gonna kill you zdarsky and I'm making Elektra a lesbian now.

- Back to Elektra's character; zdarsky takes the cake in "Let's make Elektra's whole life and character revolve around Matt and Matt only". Making her quit her ways and making Matt treat her like shit by calling her a murderer despite the fact that in previous runs he would NEVER do that and has ACCEPTED that this is who Elektra is.

- Speaking of the murderer shit; Matt is a huge hypocrite in this run and not in a good or fun way. Homeboy got rescued by the other Defenders but then got mad and called them murderers bc they've admitted to killing people and it's the most fanficy thing I've ever read. Zdarsky, did you know. That Matt has known Jessica, Luke, and Danny for years now? Did you know that he already knows that they've killed people before? Did you know that he's teamed up with killers plenty of times (see: Elektra, Natasha, Frank Castle) and doesn't make a big shit about it? Did you know that Matt has killed people before in previous runs?? Did you know that zdarsky?? Bc it's clear he doesn't know.

- Whenever Spider-Man shows up Zdarsky writes him better than anyone in the run and this is a Daredevil run mind you

- Shitty ass writing. Shitty plot bc we've seen it all and there's nothing done. OOC on everyone. Misogynistic writing at its finest. Whitewashed characters. Stupid religious pandering bs that only the mcu girlies would like. Terrible run overall.

I blocked 11 accounts today because I logged into tumblr after days and wanted to see what Jimin has been upto and his hashtags were polluted with random Jikook ship stuff. It was so annoying. Some lewser claiming the youngest doesn’t think of JM as the best dancer or handsome but thinks of him as his beloved. I threw up internally and physically had a visceral reaction, ngl. Good lord, does it not make you ashamed to write the other half of your ship isn’t as talented as the group but that’s okay because the maknae loves him? What god level image do you have of JK that you can only appreciate JM because he likes him? “It doesn’t matter if JM isn’t the best dancer coz JK looks at him like he hung the stars”???? Who the fk died made JK the lord of judgements? IDC what his opinion is. I need my guy to get his flowers. Have they ever thought of Park Motherfkn Jimin as an artist? I need them to go extinct. I don’t care for shipping, you do you. But to never acknowledge their artistry is a sickness.

My opinion's still the same as when he went on and on during a live about Taehyung being the most handsome/beautiful (I don't remember the korean word he used for it) person he's ever seen. And at the time jikookers were trying to find excuses but I said; I know it's normal to think other people are more beautiful than your partner; it can happen, we're not always going to date the most incredible looking person on earth, and that's okay. What is not ok to me is go live to millions of people and say "his best friend is the most good looking person I've ever seen". If you're in a relationship, you can't just say that your partner's best friend takes your breath away like...

Jungkook has never thought Jimin was the best in the group at anything. At least he's never said it and he never will. Once too, they went to that show where they had to write something they wanted to hear from another member and Jungkook wanted to hear "you're a good dancer" from Hoseok. And he wanted to hear from him because he respects Hoseok as a dancer and wanted his approval. So I do think he means it when he says Hoseok is the best dancer to him.

I guess what's annoying about shippers is

1) that Jimin actually talks about Jungkook like he's the best in a lot of stuff. He's talked a lot about looking to him for help in singing, and has even said Jungkook is a better dancer than him even when everyone knows that's not true. Jimin goes as far as including Jungkook in the "visual" line, even though the official narrative is Jin and V are, so he'd be okay if he just said vjin. But Jimin is actually a person with a defined personality that doesn't compromise his morals or opinions for others. So if he thinks Jungkook is good looking as V and Jin, he will just say so. And yet all those things fly over jikookers heads. They'll ignore all that and will tirelessly go back to the one time Jungkook compliments Jimin to make up for all the other times he could've, but didn't.

2) that they can't just acknowledge and accept it. They have to write ten thousand excuses and turn everything into a romance novel to make it seem like yes, Jungkook is saying this or that but secretly he thinks different. Secretly, he thinks the world of Jimin and Jimin only. Secretly, he would never think anyone is better than Jimin.

Just the amount of coping.

As I've said once before too, it's gotten to the point where not only they scramble to find reasons (beyond skinship) to think that they're dating, but also to make Jungkook the kind of boyfriend they think he is. They can't just be like "okay jikook might be dating and Jungkook is kind of a piece of shit for saying this or doing that". No. They have to turn everything around and write stuff like "he hung the stars on the sky" only so Jungkook won't stop being the ideal boyfriend they've made up in their minds.

And that relates to what you say about us not really caring about Jungkook's opinion, but how we have to acknowledge these things anyways because all this discourse does is feed into the idea that Jimin is not as good as someone else. I've written about it before, too; that it really doesn't matter that it's him saying it, but just about giving credit where credit is due. Pjms actually have these conversations about Yoongi and other members as well.

(2) Instead we see laena feeling like a consolation prize (imo not even 2nd best) and trying to make peace with that, probably thinking she's lucky because considering the world they live in, 'it could've been worse'. She misses her family and has to comfort a daughter who thinks her dad doesn't love her for being dragonless, but when she tries to talk to daemon about how she feels he dismisses it, all because he's moping about rhaenyra. Don't get me started on how he laughed at her funeral, idc the reason, you bet he wouldn't have even thought of doing that if it were viserys or rhaenyra's funeral. He spent the day with his eyes glued to rhaenyra, his daughters abandoned in a corner (thank god for rhaenys) and finally he has sex with the woman whose shadow laena had to live under all those years. At laena's funeral, in her house, while her family is grieving for her. Daemon didn't show any respect for her; he might've been fond of her but did he love her? Idk, he definitely wasn't in love with her. Tbh i don't know if laena loved him either.

Imo they also missed a chance to show how alike daemon and laena were but only if we consider daemon's better character traits and when he's in his best behaviour. I guess you could say laena was a kindred spirit to daemon's better side, which can be compared to how he behaves around rhaenyra and in which ways those two are alike. Laena obviously didn't change daemon, she didn't make him better. But i think that in a way daemon's worst instincts were dormant around her (granted, in the book they were together only a few years and there were no external factors that brought daemon's bad side out). It even makes me think of laena's bond with vhagar, an ancient war machine who was drawn to darker characters than laena but was drawn to this spirited girl and spent their time together taking laena out for joyrides. It didn't last long and sadly vhagar went back to bonding with a darker character that rode her to war again.

Definitely, show Laena does give off the vibe of "could have been worse" in terms of her just "accepting" how her relationship with Daemon is (probably from having dodged the bullet of marrying Viserys in her mind) and, added on to the stress of her current pregnancy, probably was too tired to fight him and expected to do so after the birth (which we know didn't happen). It's sad because you can how alone she feels as taken from her family and can't even share her childhood home with her daughters (I fully believe that had she been able to return home, maybe even survived her pregnancy, she would have stayed back on Driftmark and never thought of leaving permanently again). It really boils my blood how we have Rhaena being ignored by her father for being dragonless when he loved her in the books. He would not do that. Him laughing at Laena's funeral would not have happened had it been Viserys or Rhaenyra, as you said, as he would have killed someone then and there had they done so. And him spending the day staring at Rhaenyra all throughout the funeral (not even hiding it because other people noticed) and leaving his daughters was so disrespectful, making matters worse when he sleeps with Rhaenyra (who was wrong for that too). Laena hadn't even reached the bottom of the ocean before they moved on. In context of the show, I'm not sure there was even respect for Laena after she died because if you respect someone then you definitely wouldn't of have done that at her funeral (not even including his treatment of her during their marriage as well).

Thank god for Rhaenys too, as you said, but even some of her character kind of has flaws when it has to center Daemyra (or just Rhaenyra). Because the pair [Daemyra] were not very smart to have gotten married literally, not only, after Laena was just put into the sea but Laenor was presumed dead as well with Rhaenys and Corlys discovering the body (that scene was wrong as hell too). It sends a very bad look and Rhaenys definitely was not feeling Rhaenyra after that. I also wished there was more anger from her towards Daemon because she would know fully well that the only thing stopping Laena from coming home, from bringing her daughters with her, would have been Daemon. And you know that if she caught wind of him ignoring Rhaena she would have swept her off to Driftmark with her sister in a heartbeat.

But back to another point that you said, op, that really got me thinking: both Laena and Rhaenyra bring out sides in Daemon that influence his character. Now, from what I've heard about her book characteristics, Rhaenyra is very different from her show counterpart and doesn't flinch at getting her hands dirty, for a lack of better words. In the show, while not the same, I do feel as though she brings out a side of Daemon that makes him brash and fiery. I saw a gifset edit of them standing side by side with her casually nodding to him before he does something reckless (she definitely nodded at him before he cut Vaemond in half) and that would have been even more interesting had we been given more scenes with Laena to parallel this. In the books, Laena doesn't seem to hold that darker energy as Rhaenyra, and this would contrast her well with Daemon. I see her holding him back from acting out violently, which is very smart in my opinion because having Rhaenyra be okay with his violent acts towards others doesn't seem very smart if you want people to back your claim for the throne. I see Laena calming the fire within Daemon without trying to smother it, but I also see him being surprised by her own (or, since the Velaryons are of the sea have him describe her with sea connotations like "she was as calm as the sea on a peaceful day, but don't let that overshadow how she could rage as it during the storm", like the sea is a force to be reckoned with too HOTD!) This could correlate well with what you had said about Laena's relationship with Vhagar, a dragon from a time period of huge war in not only Targaryen, but Westerosi history. A dragon known for her darker riders (eg. Visenya and Aemond) but allows Laena, who definitely isn't like them, to claim her. That within itself is a feat, but to have mentions of her being like the sea, as said earlier, it would have added more context. I kind of imagine it as those character dynamic drawing with three people where two have "look like they could kill you and would" being for Visenya and Aemond and then the third, in the middle, being "looks like a cinnamon roll but would actually kill you" for Laena. Like it also would have sweet to see how she and Vhagar interacted because, in comparison to her past and future rider, I feel like Laena's kindred spirit would have been a nice break for Vhagar.

While there isn't much to go on from their relationship in comparison to Daemyra's in the books, I think that could also work for their benefit. Granted, there wasn't a war happening, but if Laena didn't help ease his fire then I'm fairly certain there would have been insistent involving him during their time together aside from him killing Bravos. But that's just me personally.

Another thing that annoys me is how some in the fandom use the possibility of Laena and Rhaenyra being in love for the wrong reasons. Hear me out, I think the pair would be cute and I wouldn't mind Daemon's inclusion as long as Laena is cared for as well, but some in the fandom use this ship just as an excuse to hate Rhaenicent all the while not even caring about Laena (same with it just being Laena and Rhaenyra). Like they use Laena as a prop (and sometimes target for some toxic Rhaenicent stans) and it does her character and the actresses a disservice (sometimes harm because I know the hate actors and actresses can receive from ship wars especially if they are a woc).

Rebirth Broke Me

i jusr finished rebirth and oh man i fucking love this game, it embellished the relationships between every character to well. worked on the plot so naturally and beautifully. i especially love how much they portrayed aerith and tifa, gave yuffie more of a connection to the group. i also adore how they explored the gi story and made it so much more relevant. i love how they worked out barret's struggles. absolutely in love with vincent, but i always did so lol. i saw some people complaining about cid, but imo i think he's putting up a good guy front just so he doesn't lose any business after his attempt at being a shinra pilot failed. i fully expect them to cover his story in part 3 and explore it more like they did with everyone else. im soooo happy we got to see cissnei, but so sad aerith and her didnt speak of zack :(. it's also cool we got to see some midgarian faces again even after the crew left. the trials had me actually crying, it was stunning. they really cooked

i was very confused with chapter 14 until I reached the end, but it makes sense to me. spoiler warning ahead ofc i believe aerith died. i also believe cloud is incapable of coping with the fact that she's dead, so he sees her still present with them. but i also believe she won't stay dead either, i think she was really there with cloud when they fought sephiroth. her line of "i'll pray to stop the meteor" tells me she'll come back. being a cetra and all, i think she'll find a way to return to the earth through the lifestream

my leading theory for the trajectory of the games currently goes as following; i believe that sephiroth went back in time to when it all started (crisis core time) in the hopes of changing how events played out, my biggest proof of this is his attempt at killing barret in remake and tifa in rebirth. he underestimated them in the og timeline and only took out aerith as he viewed her as the only threat, but he needs the others out the picture too sooner than later. especially tifa. hence why he constantly gaslights cloud about her being a fake or not being trustable; she's the only one that can help him put his mind back together. without her, cloud will always view the world through clouded lenses. but one thing changed about my theory with the whispers now being white and black; aerith followed him to stop him. she sacrificed her memory and recollections of events to make it back. the whispers were sephiroth and aerith's will fighting to keep the timeline intact, but they evolved and split into two factions. i also think aerith's white materia being hollowed out has something to do with that. i think she saw what he was up to from the lifestream (since shes dead in og timeline), sacrificed her memories to stop him once and for all. for a while i thought aerith was the one going back, but it wouldnt make much sense for her to undo what they did just to save herself and zack. it's possible this is an entirely different sephiroth, but i believe it's the one from the og timeline trying to reunite every world possible to make sure he wins everywhere.

it's hard to say for sure whats going on and we're only going to know once part 3 drops, but i know one thing for sure. neither cloud nor sephiroth are relliable narrators and their interpretation cannot be trusted. cloud's mind is still scattered, he's divided between denial and obedience to sephiroth. anything he says cannot be trusted. sephiroth is bad shit insane, he only accepts his view of the world. his vision is the only valid one, therefore what he says cannot be taken as matter of fact.

one final footnote i want to comment on is the "date" aerith and cloud had. yes, im a big cloti and aerti fan. also believe zack is the only right person for aerith, so maybe im coping but idc lol. i think it was all a dream or at least an altered vision of events. i firmly believe aerith still loves zack. she wrote to him for 4 years while he was taking a mako bath, waited for him endlessly day and night. she loved him dearly. but aerith is also one hell of a loyal person. i doubt she would ever be able to brush off zack like that. she also doesn't know if he died in the remake timeline. i think she projected her love for zack onto cloud; to relive the happiness she found with him one last time. she's been holding on to her grief for years, she still thinks about him. he dropped in one day into her life so suddenly and changed it for the better. as did she for him. he vanished the same way she found him. so when another soldier falls into her life the same way, carries the same sword as him, has similar mannerisms, reminds her so much of the man who she fell in love with; can we really blame her for wanting an escape of how much sadness she felt from zack being gone? i also dont believe for a second she used cloud to feel better about herself, i think she just wanted to feel the love he showed her again before she had to pass on. but cloud isn't zack, cloud could never love her the way zack did. aerith grew up without any real friends, no one that accepted her for being her. everyone viewed her as different or weird; but not zack. he was the first person to show her genuine care (besides her mothers). she misses him, as much as she's happy with all her new friends who also accept her for her; she wishes he was there too. i also don't believe that the real cloud has any romantic feelings for aerith. again, he took on the life of zack in his head. he feels drawn to her because of how much zack loved her.

it's really such a tragic story full of nuance and hurt. i noticed that zack and tifa are great parallels; both of them are the only ones truly capable of reaching inwards towards their respective partner. zack understood aerith much better than cloud ever could. tifa can touch cloud in a way no one could. but that doesn't negate the fact that cloud cares for all of them just as much. they all mean a lot to him and he means a lot to them.

also really appreciate how the devs still kept the canonity of tifa and cloud, but also gave the chance to fans of other pairings to be happy with the outcome and choose their path. its always been a divisive thing in the ff7 fandom, so its cool of them to try and make everyone happy

overall, im super excited for part 3 and i think i might recover from this by the time it comes out

- ^ drabble about this you were in the forest with kiri she wanted to explore with you today and have your little talks there were nice with tuk but you got her in ways no one else did her connection with eywa and all so sitting down by a river bend and she asked you “so you and lo’ak huh?” usually your response would have been “no way in hell that’s my best friend” but this time you just remained quiet for kiri to figure it out then she gasped “No my brother really y/n?!” you splashed water in her direction “shut up” “so after all these years you finally accept the truth” you rolled your eyes “yea yea whatever you say” “will i get to be your maid of honor” you scoffed “Kiri unless your gonna be there while me and lo’ak mate then i think not” “ohh so you plan on mating huh” she said with a teasing  and sarcastic tone you flipped her off and changed or at least tried to change the subject

- but anyways you also had told neteyam he was another best friend of yours well the whole sully family was except for spider he was a friend not best friend

- which resulted the whole family trying to set the two of you up even Neytiri and jake and his oblivious ass was confused but anyways it was embarrassing as hell you wanted to dig your self in a hole and die

- but how you guys became girlfriend and boyfriends was stupid cute but stupid you were out on  a hunt by yourselves which is a surprise because you + lo’ak = getting in trouble for shits and giggles but anyways lo’ak spoke up “I bet that you can’t find a bigger catch than me” you smirked “well see about that” so your competitive side took over you hunted almost everything that was eatable and good meat after the day and you returned to food to camp (jake was impressed by how much you both caught btw) lo’ak caught a lot but not as much as you and you walked around the village boasting to him “I win lo’ak” your genuine smile showing and your freckles glowed under the moon he nodded “not really but okay” you looked like a deer in headlights “what do you mean “not really” i caught at least 2 times more than you did” “I mean yea but the biggest and greatest catch was?” “what” you responded sarcastically “you” he whispered it you could barely hear it but your heart exploded right their “lo’ak you mean that?” he came closer to you “of course I do”…..and the rest was history

- until the sky people came they came and destroyed your home your memories a piece of you that you were born with lo’ak comforted you everything you knew was gone besides lo’ak and the other sullys

- But any ways i’m getting tired of writing this part let just get to when you arrive at the Metkayina clan

- when you saw tsireya god your eyes popped out of your damn head and lo’aks too she was beautiful and she stared right back at the two of you she felt like a missing piece apart of you you needed to have

- but when you guys got settled you and lo’ak went strolling around talking about you new home until you mentioned tsireya “shes beautiful y’know” “who?” “tsireya” he nodded in agreement you wanted to bring up that you wanted her to be apart of the relationship having more than one mate was common it wasn’t foreign but at the same time it felt so scary so un heard of you were always the bold one in the relationship so you went head first “what if we ask her to mate with us?” lo’ak whipped his head at you so face his braids almost hitting you in the face “are you sure you wanna do that  n/n?” you rolled you eyes “yes lo’ak i do and i know you do too i could practically see drooling at her” “shut up you were too” “was not” “yes you were” this bickering went on for a while but it was all shits and giggles nothing serious

- but anyways when you guys both started courting tsireya all the sully knew and her idiot brother which you didn’t have a problem with since he apologized for fighting lo’ak and neteyam and leaving lo’ak in the middle of the ocean he was actually cool you and him got along pretty well and you guys joked around a lot actually

- but anyways back to courting tsireya you guys spent a lot of time with her and she enjoyed it it made her feel special about her self and not because she was the oldest child (i know she not but for this lets just act like it) and Tsahik in training it gave her some stress free and allowed her self to breathe for once

- but she accepted your courting and agreed to be mates with you once you all finish your rites of passage (i know that’s not the name but can someone tell me what it is for future reference)

- So after all the sky people stuff (neteyam did not die dont fucking play with me bitch) you all were determined to finish your rites of passage

- lo’ak had already bonded with a tuklan bonded with a Skimwing and tsireya had only one more to go and she would be ready for her adulthood you had already bonded with a Skimwing you just needed a tuklan and you found one la’nou she was a singer in her “clan” she sung beautifully and was sweet and kind but will protect the ones she loves perfect for you and you bonded with her your rites of passages were complete the ceremony would be that night sooner than later

- you wore this along with this necklace ronal gave you it was beautiful really while tsireya wore a dress her mother weaved her along with his crown  and lo’ak on the other hand he didn’t change at all he wanted to go home and sleep he was being his dumb self as usual but when saw tsireya and you that all changed he was glad to be there ecstatic even the  festival was full with music and it was amazing you wouldn’t trade it for the world

- after everyone started to go home you lo’ak and tsireya went to a secluded area far away from the village and you sat there in each others embrace and it felt warm it felt welcomed it felt like home

Anakin and the Will of the Force

Probably an unpopular opinion but idc

I was doing some very philosophical contemplations and came to some of the strangest realizations – Anakin really is the Force’s child. He’s like its human embodiments of sorts. The number of parallels is insane.

PS: Before you get started on morality, the Force doesn’t care. Even newborns die all the time. It’s not in our narrow-minded human comprehension to understand why.

-          It started as a chaotic light, before the invasion of Naboo and Palpatine being elected Chancellor, which began the Sith’s final approach to ascension to power, parallel to Anakin’s chaotic, traumatic childhood despite him being very light when he was little

-          The next decade was a steadily growing darkness as the Sith worked their way into controlling their galaxy and towards the beginning of the war, paralleled with Anakin’s isolation and grooming

-          The clone wars, marking a very chaotic point, both in the Force and for Anakin, having just lost his mother and the Force losing its peace

-          The Force chose people to Serve it, it’s wielders – the Jedi, all of whom either abandoned it’s ways like Ahsoka left Anakin, or seek to dominate and control it like Sidious and Obi-Wan did.

-          The moment the Jedi fell from the path of serving the Force was when it turned on them and allowed their destruction – the moment Windu was about to kill Palpatine, the same moment that Anakin accepted he needed to go dark.

-          The Force went dark from the loss of its light after the Jedi were destroyed, paralleled by Anakin only embracing the Dark Side afterwards (his eyes didn’t turn yellow until he went to Mustafar – when he fully embraced the darkness)

-          The Force was in a way crippled with the loss of its wielders, and I don’t even to say what that’s paralleled with

-          The Force spent years punishing those that betrayed it – looks at OWK

-          With it’s Light gone with its wielders, Darkness filled it, paralleled by Anakin losing his family and spending years without them

-          Anakin turned back the same time the Sith were destroyed, marking the loss of Darkness in the Force

-          Without both Light and Dark of its users, the Force was left empty until they rebuild – hence why Anakin died but still stayed ever-present in the Force

PPS: If only Anakin knew all he needed was the Force.

making sense of that's amorte bc i'm silly

ok so the spaghetti like represents a lot of things. it brings the family together despite bad things happening. it brings them joy. but then they find out that this product that is bringing them so much happiness actually comes from a direct result of unhappiness, depression, and ultimately a person's suicide. they're eating the body of a person who killed themselves. i suppose the question then is: is it worth it to continue enjoying something that makes you happy even if it's something you consider wrong? rick considers the spaghetti guilt free, so his answer is yes, prioritising his own pleasure. but morty's answer is no, and he seeks to solve it.

he wants to learn the names of the ppl he's been eating in an attempt to humanise them and get closure, but isn't satisfied even then. he goes to the funeral of their most recent victim and tells the people there about what they were doing, to get it off his chest.

interestingly, the family are more upset over not having their spaghetti night anymore than the fact they've been eating people and are angrier at morty than rick.

the government then invites morty back to the planet to get his full statement on everything he's doing. they serve him a plate of human spaghetti and tell him it's okay bc the person who it came from consented to being eaten. morty says this makes it go down easier and they realise they have a product bc of how delicious it is. they start selling it on a large scale under the brand name "morty-o's suicide spaghetti."

then this episode turns into a critique on capitalism and consumerism and potentially cannibalism? in the way it kinda explores the argument that cannibalism is the only ethical way to consume meat. the government of the world rick was stealing bodies from is now using morty to indirectly act like the frontman to advertising spaghetti as a product. this makes the planet start to commodify their ppl's pain. literally. they make ppl more miserable to cause more suicides so they can make more product to sell more money.

morty decides this is unacceptable and seeks a solution. he tells rick that if he gets help, he won't look for the moral flaws in rick's deeds ever again. rick agrees and manufactures a creature that is almost a person but is basically created just to kill themselves and become spaghetti. they seem to be okay with this option, until it's ruined by protestors and they're back to square one.

then my leadt favourite part of the episode. morty remembers rick can synthesise anything he gets a sample of which HE OR RICK SHOULDVE REMEMBERED SOONER BEFORE SO MANY PPL DIED. IDC HOW NAIVE YOURE TRYING TO MAKE MORTY OUT TO BE HERE HES FUCKING NOT ANYMORE SO ALL OF THE PPL WHO HAVE DIED IN THIS FUCKING EPISODE AFTER THE MORTY-'O'S DISCOVERY IS FUCKING ON FHEM.

but there's only one person left who would probably kill themselves and the only way they're able to convince him to follow through is to present him an opportunity to end the spaghetti trade forever. and so he agrees. he goes into a euthanasia chamber and presses a button, rick grabs everyone's attention and broadcasts this guys entire life history to everyone so they can see the intrinsic value of life, the beauty of individuality and lived experiences. then everyone's finally grossed out by the spaghetti and put off it forever. no more spaghetti.

rick points out that it's not these ppl's deaths that made the spaghetti distasteful but the complexity of life, and i think that's basically the thesis statement of this episode. that and the fact that not everything is black and white, even if morty desperately wants them to be. he learns grey areas are sometimes acceptable.

favourite scene is the ending when rick is teasing them.

idk not the biggest fan of this episode. i think it had smth to say but missed the mark. this is just me reading into everything and trying to make sense of this. fucking dark even for this show, even for my tastes.
