Hey, do you have family in Israel? Do you know whether they are alright?

sure, I do. in my experience most American Jews have family in Israel. When my family left their village in what is now Belarus, half of those leaving came to the US and half went to Palestine. (and those who remained were killed and that village does not exist anymore) I am not in close contact with the Israeli side but I expect I would have heard something if any of them had been hurt. Josh has much closer Israeli family as his brother Yoav and nieces/nephews all live there but they are also fine to my knowledge.

I appreciate the check in, but I will be perfectly honest with you that while it hurts my heart immensely that so many Israeli civilians have been killed, right now I am primarily concerned about the millions of people in Gaza without electricity or running water who have been ordered to evacuate or get exploded but who have nowhere to go. I am very, VERY concerned about the statements being made by the garbage fascists in control of the Israeli government right now openly stating their genocidal intentions on a scale that we haven't previously seen.

we are all triggered and traumatized as hell about everything, and by we I mean Jews, and I think it's understandable for us to feel that way. but I also am struggling a lot with the degree to which many of my fellow American Jews are making this ABOUT our big feelings of fear and anxiety. I understand that anticipating things becoming More Dangerous is something all Jews have had to do constantly forever. I understand that "position of relative privilege" is something that's extremely conditional for Jews and something that can be taken away at the drop of a hat. but... I don't know. I've been trying to think of anything coherent or helpful in any way to say for the past several days and coming up short. it's a nightmare. But it would be disingenuous to deny that it's a nightmare for me in ways that are removed pretty significantly from the ways in which it is a nightmare for other people.

my family is fine. I understand and empathize with the sentiments of "but what if my family becomes NOT fine?" especially when this is the largest mass killing of Jewish civilians since... well. and I am also enraged and terrified by the comfort with which many leftist gentiles seem to be practically celebrating those deaths. but I'm really preoccupied by the fact that millions of people and their families in Gaza are Not Fine in a huge and terrible way right now as we speak. this is not to say that it is a contest, but if I am doing triage, it is very clear to me whose leg is more broken right now. While acknowledging, again, that we are in a scary place globally regarding antisemitism.

Angry Jew on fb has been posting a lot of stuff that really speaks to how I am feeling right now. devastated by the horrible ways some of my people have been killed, and devastated also that inexcusable violence is being done, essentially, in my name. I hate to talk about this publicly because I also fucking wish American gentiles would kind of shut up about it a lot of the time, to be honest. and I hate feeling like I am giving anyone ammunition in their weird ideological internet fights about having The More Correct Opinion in the hypothetical trolley problem-ass situation that so many of them act like this is. the refusal to learn about any specifics of the situation in favor of just deciding it must be exactly like some other unrelated geopolitical issue that they feel they have a better handle on, and then just... overwriting the reality of the situation so that it matches up with what they are comfortable imagining in their heads. I have had to unfollow and block a lot of people lately.

I mostly talk to my safe Jewish and Muslim friends about this. and select few safe non-muslim gentiles.

Right now I am grieving for many reasons. Since you asked me about my personal connection I will tell you the main things I remember learning and feeling about this growing up. I've never been to Israel. Not close enough to my family there to visit, although my dad did, & never comfortable with programs like Birthright. I remember in the 90s my dad, who was an administrator at the school of Public Health at the local university, was helping put together programs that would bring Israeli and Palestinian universities and public health groups together to work on universal public health issues like helping ppl stop smoking, vaccination, etc. it was going really well at the time. he was going over there a few times a year to coordinate with the people running the programs there. he was really optimistic about it, & several other similar programs. this was back when Yasser Arafat and Yitzak Rabin/Shimon Peres were having a lot of talks that were seemingly productive and hopeful. like obviously it was hardly a golden age but it seemed like maybe Israel was moving away from violence. and then 9/11 happened and everything exploded and all the little programs simply disappeared and my dad never went back to work with anyone. and then fucjing... Netanyahu. and it seems like since then everything only gets worse and worse and further and further from anything other than horrible violence, and that devastates me

In high school I took a Mideast Civ class and one of my fellow students was a kid whose parents had been expelled from Palestine during the war and fled to America. what I remember being struck by when he talked about this was how his family's story was so similar to my family's story and a deep sense of shame and anger that people who had undergone what my family had could then make his family undergo the same thing. That's still a pretty big part of how I feel. I don't accept that that kid's experience was necessary to keep me or my family safe.

I'm just a guy. I try my best to learn as much as I can and listen to a large variety of people connected to this so I can have a more holistic view of things. I'm not making this post rebloggable for obvious reasons but since it's here on my blog, for anyone reading who is also feeling despair, here's some organizations that are good to follow & support if you are able (non-exhaustive obviously)

I want everyone to be alright. I know this is a lot of big baby feelings and no particular political ideologies or solutions and that's because I'm just one fucking Jew and I'm not an activist or a revolutionary and I kind of feel a bit like other online people could stand to admit more often that they're also just some guy and also not activists or revolutionaries. I sure have beliefs and I sure feel strongly about them, but man, right now I just want to express grief & anger & worry about how awful this government is and how many people they're going to kill and how much I wish it was not happening

eta: I'm reading this back and realizing that as a response to this ask it makes it sound like I'm saying that inquiring about the well-being of someone's Israeli relatives is like, inherently devaluing the well-being of other ppl and I very much am not saying that and do not believe that. I'm just enormously emotionally dysregulated and this got me kind of stream of consciousness about all of the things I have been chasing around in my brain about this.

JJK Chapter 237 ― Let's Talk

i'll be real.

i don't fuck1ng mind the plot and the way it goes. i'm actually quite enjoying it. i've seen various reactions and i am not judging anybody's opinions, i think dropping a thing you no longer enjoy is totally valid.

but gojo is not the entire point of jujutsu kaisen— he's not even the MC. based on my previous posts you all know how much i love this man and hate when i see him being characterized wrongly. yes, he is a very important element of the jjk world but he's not everything there is to it.

do i think he'll still be alive? yes.

even if he dies, the only thing i want is for his death to be properly depicted— did i expect it to happen this chapter? no. will it happen the next chapter? probably not. why? because the focus right now is on the fight against sukuna.

why did sukuna reincarnate into a human body now and not before?

because there would've been a chance for gojo to k1ll him and... if he did that it would've been OVER. sukuna is a strategist, unlike gojo and many others. in one of my previous posts i said that in terms of brute strength gojo is definitely above him but what sukuna has is an insatiable desire for knowledge and love for the depths of cursed energy; that's exactly what's going on right now. he is a master.

people fail to look at the bigger picture and act like every weekly release is the last chapter they'll ever see of jjk.

it's meant to be read on volumes.

even in the fight vs gojo, people hypefixated on it, jumped on the bandwagon of calling sukuna a fraud and upon seeing it wasn't the case they were shocked. re-read the fight with all the chapters released so far see how coherent it feels.

kashimo is a great character to be honest. i enjoyed seeing his CT, his rip-off geto chatter and his spunk.

+ no sight of gojo's body on the battlefield

we all want immediate answers and we're not going to get them. it's ok to be restless and impatient but just... don't call the entire thing pointless so fast.

gojo got his insightfulness as a character and his core analyzed through multiple occasions.

unlike the lengthy essays i could make about mr six eyes, i don't have that material for sukuna. it was about time for his character to be finally explored. this entire arc, of megumi becoming a vessel, these talks about love... they have all been about sukuna. this is sukuna's arc.

i enjoyed his small talk with kashimo. i enjoyed this chapter.

A/n: this is my first time publishing a story so it may not be as good as future ones, there are many mistakes and problems with the tense. But I am still happy I was able to publish so enjoy!( I am not sure wether to do a part 2 or not)

"You know you can't keep this up forever, right?" he says with a cold expression which was uncharacteristic of him.

You just looked at the floor from the bed and just prayed he would leave you alone. A suffocation silence invaded the room, he was standing in front of you, arms crossed, staring down at your form. You on the other hand, were sitting on the edge of the bed, avoiding his gaze and just stared downward. The darkness contributed to the agonizing atmosphere, however, a small ray of light from outside his bedroom going through the slightly open door that he didn't close properly could be seen. You refused to give him any kind of attention he was longing for, you would not give him what he wanted, since he couldn't care less about what you wanted. Wriothesley was like the devil to you, and definitely had the looks that couldn't convince you otherwise. You were just an angel flying through Fontaine freely until this monster had the audacity to love you and poisoning you in the process. Now you're stuck down below in a place you like to call hell. It was a dark cold place, with you chained to a man you once thought as a gentleman, if only you could have known back then, maybe, just maybe you could have avoided this.

"I've been thinking, your behaviour and attitude have long past their limit. It's been a month and I think it's about time you drop the act. Sulking isn't going to get you anywhere, you are aware of that."

What a joke, is he really that delusional, he can't be serious! Is he really treating you like some kind of child, like this was a sort of tantrum, and an act! As much as you tried to hide your thoughts, your face couldn't stop but slightly change, brows furrowing and biting your lip. He takes notice of this, a small deep sigh escapes his mouth and his arms drop. His hand slowly approaches your face, it takes a moment to realise what he is trying to do, by the time you do notice his index finger already lifts your chin up to get a proper view of your face. This unsurprisingly makes sick, you cringe over the gesture and instantly move backwards and hit the headboard of the bed, quietly hissing at him in the process, like a cat. His eyebrows jolt upwards and his mouth slightly opens, surprised by your action. You could see in that moment his eyes darken

" I have been so nice to you, have I not ?" he says with a deep, cold voice. He starts moving forward around the bed, slowly approaching your cowering form.

"I have endured your little tantrums these past weeks, knowing that it would take time for you to settle in. I have given you what you needed to adapt to this because I am fully aware that this is far from what you want, I am not blind that fact. I have fed you, cleaned, made sure everything was comfortable for you. But you treat me like a monster.."

"That's because you are one!" You shout stepping off of the opposite side of the bed. His movement halts and his face goes back the surprised look he had a few seconds ago, taken aback by the sudden outburst. This was by far the biggest act of defiance yet.

" Do you not realise the torture I have to go through every day when I am with you. You stripped me of everything I possessed. You accused me of a crime I didn't commit, forcing me to go down to the fortress just to be confined in here, i don't even get to go out with the other inmates! What respect do I owe you when the man standing in front of me a selfish pathetic monster ruining my life. How do you expect me to ever love that! I want to go home, I want to be as far away from you you sick freak!"

As you stopped to get a breath, you notice Wriothesley face start to darken, eyebrows frowning and his teeth starting to clench, not to mention that his hands balling into fists. That is when you realised that you had made a big mistake...

"A monster you say? He chuckled with a small smirk appearing. "No, no you haven't seen a monster, sweetheart. But if that is how you perceive me, then I might as well give you a reason to, hm? If that is what you truly desire of course. Is this what you want, a monster?

His movement started slowly moving around the bed. You started to panic, fear englobing you. What was he going to do with you, had you really cross the line with this. You turn your head searching, looking for a way to get aways before he could trap you. That is when you see, the door is still open, if you are quick enough you can go to his office, his office door is usually unlocked when you are in here, maybe you can find someone out there that can help you. You jolt forward to the door, passing him in the process, he doesn't try and stop you but you were to caught up in the moment to care. You opened the bedroom door more and slammed it right behind you. You could feel your heart pounding, your breath turning into loud gasp as you run into his office, forcing your trembling legs to move. You went past his desk full of paperwork, knocking a few in the process. You reached the staircase, moving down and seeing the large door. You jumped three stairs and bolted into the door, taking the handle and forcing it down. But it didn't budge, it was stuck, blocked, as if it were locked.. No, no this can't happen to you. You started banging at the door as a pathetic attempt to have someone hear you from outside. You accumulated enough air to scream until.

"I must say, I am rather disappointed in you sweetheart"

You slowly turned your head, with wide eyes. He was on top of the staircase, one hand on the rail. Your heartbeat was two ounces away from ripping out of your chest, sweat developed and your body shaked against your will. You could here the echo from his steel coated boots hiting the metal stairs as he went down. And that is when you noticed the handcuffs twirling around his fingers. No not that...

" I am going to give you two options here. You either come back with me willingly, and we can discuss this properly. Or you make things difficult, and I force you myself, and I think that is something you would want to avoid since I'm such a scary monster, hm?" He says with a low but mocking tone. He was now standing in front, patiently awaiting your next move. You refused to submit yourself but was it really the smartest option. You could try and fight back or run the other way, but he was a professional boxer, who could easily body you, trap you, slam you against the wall, just the thought of it made you shiver. Wriothesley twirled the the handcuffs even faster, trying to provoque fear to 'help' you decide quicker. You were completely hopeless and weak, but surrendering yourself wasn't going to help you any better, you were still going to be stuck here, no matter what anwer you give, giving up is just going to let him obtain what he wants. You shouldn't let that happen. Your mind started pounding at the thoughts, racing to find a solution to save you.

"Well?" He asks while raising one eyebrow.

" Fuck you"

And that is when you figured it out, the answer he was long waiting for. You took a breath and stared into his eyes and said.

The twirling stopped and the world went silent

I smiled at the patient before taking the opportunity to leave. I smiled politely as I waited at the door, another patient passing by. I let them walk first before entering the hall. I approached the help desk and signed off the files and notes I had taken before filing my paperwork.

"Are you always smiling?" A rough voice asked me. I chuckled softly knowing it was House's usual and morbid demeanor. I had not talked to him before but often heard some of his funny remarks or acts of antisocial behaviour around the hospital. I smiled as I looked up at him.

"Usually yes," I replied in a chipper tone. He seemed to study me a second longer than normal. I smiled a little brighter, a nervous habit. He clenched his jaw, taking in my expression and looking slightly puzzled.

"Walk with me," He instructed, turning and beginning to walk around the desk.

"I have patients," I exclaimed, raising my voice slightly as he began walking down the hall and away from me.

"Walk with me," He repeated as he continued to venture in a different direction. I watched after him, my eyebrows slightly furrowed. I shrugged my shoulders before going back to my work. I began reading the file of a new patient. I tapped the top of my pen to my teeth as I examined the file. "You didn't follow me," I looked past my file at House.

"I told you I have patients," I explained, my gaze falling back onto the file.

"People usually follow me," He explained, I looked back at him with raised eyebrows.

"I'm not a usual person," I shrugged, turning around to go to my patients' room. House staying behind.

I finished taking the patient's family history before leaving the room, I looked at the desk, a part of me expecting to see House. He wasn't there. I smiled, walking out. "You never stop smiling," House's voice commented behind me. I knew instantly he had been waiting by the door. I didn't bother looking back at him as I headed to the desk to continue my work. "Wilson hasn't seen you without a smile so now there's a bet going that I can stop you from smiling, Wilson isn't on board yet but he will be," House explained tauntingly as he followed me. I chuckled as I shook my head, turning around with an extra sincere smile.

"Have fun with that," I smirked, turning back around and continuing my work, fully intent on ignoring him.

When I teased House I didn't know what I had expected. He did a lot to mess with me. He would jump out at me, scaring me but I always smiled and laughed it off. He began recruiting people to walk in front of me whenever I was walking. It's mildly irritating but I always just smile, take a deep breath and stabilise my patience.

It's been 2 agonising weeks of House messing with me. It's gotten to the point where it's just us being stubborn now. He's doing everything he can to piss me off and I'm being too stubborn to lose. He's locked me in supplies cupboards and set off alarms for my patients so I rush in, he has even resorted to tripping me. I smile through gritted teeth but refuse to lose.

I walked through the halls, face buried in a file as I walked. I've become more aware of my surroundings as time has gone by. If anything I'm better at my job now. I am getting to alarms quicker and my spatial awareness has improved from the practice of House messing with me. I skipped, jumping up slightly as I took another step. I smirked as I heard House moan. He was trying to trip me with his cane but I've grown a sixth sense for it. I feel like anything he throws at me now I can handle.

I walked into the clinic, I'm not rostered to do it now but I've swapped shifts with a colleague to help her out. She's working my shift on Sunday to do her clinic hours. I'm not sure why people are so against doing it, I like meeting new people, it's interesting.

"Have a good day," I commented as I walked a patient out. She smiled politely before leaving. I checked my watch before filing the paperwork. I can fit one more customer in. I picked up the next file, smiling brightly as I turned to the waiting room. "Jake Rossy?" I asked, raising my voice slightly so I could be heard over the room. A guy looked up, smiling as he got up. I smiled brighter as I examined his walk towards me. He seems to have a tight back as he's walking stiffly. He's around 30 years old and not a keen advocate for self-care. I guided him to a room, holding the door open for him. "Have a seat," I instructed, gesturing to the examination chair. I opened the file as I closed the door. "What can I help you with?" I asked politely as I rolled the stool closer to me and perched on it.

"I'm having some problems with my back, I got hurt at work and they sent me here to get it checked," He explained as I nodded. Smiling sympathetically as I took in his words.

"I'm sorry to hear that, how did you get hurt?" I asked, readying my pen to add it to the file.

"I fell from the top of the ladder, I'm a window cleaner," He explained so I nodded as I took a note of it.

"Okay, well what I would like to do is get you set up with some painkillers but as you're walking we know that nothing is broken so that's a good sign." I started explaining as I put on my gloves. "I would just like to take a look just to be sure," I explained so he nodded and pulled his shirt over his head. I was a little shocked as I only needed to lift the back but this works too. I suppose. I smiled politely, getting up from my stool and walking around to examine his back.

"Since I'm shirtless, it's only fair you are too," He commented, my eyebrows furrowed as I looked at the back of his head disgusted. I forced a chuckle figuring it was just an inappropriate and ill-timed joke.

"I don't think that's appropriate," I explained, trying to keep my tone friendly and simply shrug off the matter. I took off my gloves, walking back in front of him with a smile. "I can't see any other issues so I'll write you a prescription and you can pick it up at our pharmacy," I explained politely but he looked at me confused. I raised an eyebrow expectantly as he was clearly wanting me to say something else. My eyebrows furrowed the longer he was silent.

"You're really not going to take your shirt off?" He asked as if it was an obvious question to ask. My eyes widened slightly.

"No, sir. I will remain-" I started but gasped as he harshly gripped at my shirt and pulled me towards him.

"Come on," He spoke venomously. I placed my flat hands on his sweaty chest. I stabilised myself and quickly lifted my arm to hit his wrist and remove his hand from my shirt. I took the time to step back and out of his reach. I looked at him disgusted as he smirked. I shook my head, my whole body wanting to punch him but I can't I'm working. I'll be fired. I took a deep and angered breath before shaking my head and storming out. He wasn't regretful, he didn't care. He was smirking and showing no remorse.

"Are you okay?" A nurse asked as I passed her but I'm too angry right now. I walked out, rushed to the stairs and sprinted up them, two steps at a time. I saw red as I hurried around. I slammed the door open as I walked in.

"You've taken it too far, House." I boomed, my anger spilling out as he looked at me with wide eyes. "Tripping me, having people walk in front of me, the jump scares and everything else I can deal with but this?" I scoffed, my anger swelling in my throat. He looked at me confused, my anger growing at him for playing stupid. "You paid someone to assault me," I shouted, my anger overtaking me. I didn't care about people hearing me outside of House's office. I don't care. He's gone even crazier than everyone already thinks he is.

"Someone did what?" He asked, his voice also raised as he looked angry. My eyebrows furrowed as it was not the reaction I expected. He looked at me expectantly, his anger making his temper short. He groaned as he got up and started approaching me. I stepped back confused but soon realised he was leaving. I followed after him.

"House, what are you doing?" I asked as I hurried after him.

"Well, I'm going to find the person who assaulted you, God, I knew you were dim but I didn't realise you were stupid," He expressed making me roll my eyes. I hurried in front of him, stopping to face him and blocking his way so he couldn't pass me.

"You really didn't do it?" I asked, my gaze softening as I came to the realisation that House hadn't done this and it was insane of me to have assumed it was him.

"No, I was about to give up," He explained but I raised an eyebrow expectantly at him. "Okay, I put a glitter bomb in your office but then I was done." He explained. I chuckled as I shook my head.

"Please, don't make a scene. I apologise for accusing you but you won the bet, I stopped smiling." I explained, my gaze softening as I admired him. I'd be lying if I pretended I didn't have a crush on him. House smiled as he surveyed me.

"That wasn't the bet," House explained, I looked at him confused as he smirked.

"What? You said it was a bet to stop me from smiling," I explained in a confused tone. I couldn't help but mirror his smile. It's rare to see him smile, people always say House and I are opposites because of that fact, I always blush knowing opposites attract. That's probably why I have such a crush on him. I shouldn't like older men but there he is, a man, older than my father and I want nothing more than to kiss him even though he's been annoying me for weeks.

"That was the original bet but Wilson didn't agree. He bet I couldn't get you to go on a date with me," He explained. My insides fluttered as I realised his words. I tried hiding my smile but I couldn't, it came out as more of a smirk.

"What did you bet?" I asked, my voice reflecting my smirk. I blushed as he studied my expression.

"I bet we'd be on a date before Friday night," He explained, I raised an eyebrow.

"It's Thursday," I explained so he smirked.

"Well, we have to hurry then, I hate losing," He explained, his eyes belittling me under his gaze. I bit my lip, another feeble attempt to hide my smile.

"I wouldn't want to stand in the way of you and your pride," I chuckled, smiling up at him.

"Glad you agree, see you back in my office at 7," He added before smirking and turning back to his office. I bit my lip, blushing as I watched him walk away. I turned back, internally dancing as I smiled. Best but weirdest day ever!

Hello! I know you're one of the people who ship Moon and Solar (TSAMS) And y'all have gotten me into the ship as well! XD I'm not caught up on the lore of the show(s) So i haven't even seen Solar IN SHOW before (i am very behind to before Lunar was Sun and Moons brother :' D) But I have some ideas I'm debating writing for the ship buttt....I have no clue how Canon Solar acts??? Do you know if theres somewhere I could find a Summary on his personality? (and I suppose...new Moon?) I'll probably unintentionally make them OOC...never written for anything TSAMS related, but i'll try!

And is there a ship names thats...like used for them instead of Solar X Moon or is it just called that?

Heheheh. Thank you. I've been shipping these two since June 2023 so I'm glad I can share the brainrot and some people are more welcoming and cool then I expect. (mostly the ones who can't think critically are the youtube audience but that's expected. Since a lot of the youtube target audience are... like.. minors or really young adults who can't conceive the concept.)

I rewatch that Episode where Solar changes his name and rebuilds the Daycare in a week just for Moon constantly cause it's just... so much admiration and appreciation Moon has for Solar in that episode. I swear I don't know if it was a flub on the actor's part... but I swear Moon calls him 'sexy' as he's dragging him to charge. the stock sound effect of "OOOOH" doesn't help my APD and I've listened so many times and I have no possible idea what Moon could be saying to Solar other then 'come here you stupid, sexy-...." (trails off) sooo... idk. I might have misheard that severely but that's just what I'm hearing.

Like, in terms of New Lore of the show, it gets pretty complicated.

So complicated in fact, TSAMS themselves released a new video on the subject.... But it's NOT a very good guide, as it misses a lot of things. (and no I don't mean the stupid guest cameo stuff) this is more or less an abridged take on what happens with no emotional impact:

Like, this is a good starting point if you want the barest of bones, but it misses so much stuff. I think they don't even mention how Solar gets introduced into this family. lol. Just like "yeah Im here and I helped kill Eclipse" fheahehf. It's a super well made video though, and I don't mind the editing mistakes (clearly when the actors change the avatar on screen.... whoops. Happens a few times)

There is also the Fan Wiki, but as of now, it is incomplete, (@twinanimatronics is working tirelessly on updating the wiki and I wish they got more reconignition from the tsams community as a whole ) but it does give a decent look into Solar

There is also the huge TSAMS Lore Document, which Ceph(twinanimatronics) also worked on which contains a further detailed explanation of the story so far, for those who don't have time to watch 2 years worth of youtube content that aren't in a concrete playlist. (TSAMS. PLAYLIST YOUR STUFF PROPERLY. YOU HAVE TWO YEARS OF LORE HERE)

Liike.... yeah... this is okay but like..

This is VRchat. Aka the lore. Which also includes when they play videogames in VRchat, which don't impact the story... Like Uno, Amongus and SCP stuff.....

And it doesn't divide the arcs. Something that TSAMS severely needs more then any other SB Show channel.

Also, in the early days, the gameplay videos USED to be part of the lore. As the concept of Eclipse itself, being a rouge evil ai that lived in Sun's head (as it was presented initially but we know the truth it was the killcode moon planted in Sun when they separated.)

These days, they kinda dropped the gameplay videos being directly connected to the over arching plot. Other then just saying that their vids are pre-recorded or "we're back" after an annual halloween takeover.

Not to mention... When Earth and Lunar got a show, they became intertwined with the Sun and Moon show. LAES is very much it's own thing, but it's the ONLY Security Breach Show that consists of two Original Characters spawned from the Sun and Moon show. A rarity. So their lore continues off from the Sun and moon show, giving more info on Lunar these days and Earth (their sister)

Then you have the Monty and Foxy show (which is my least favorite of the shows... Personal Preference. I try not to complain cus I know some people like it. But I do not like the plot points in that show, or the character writing and weird directions they take while being connected to the same universe.)

And Monty is a character voiced by Davis, who also voices Sun. So Monty started out as a prominent character on the Sun and Moon Show, and then got his OWN show... at a point in TSAMS history after Eclipse got the star and killed Lunar.

So yeah. I wish the playlists were better organized here. So we knew when each era starts.

(people say Matpat should get on this show lore... And noooooooo no thanks. Keep him away. We got you covered. Ceph honestly has enough info to make a video guide at this point.)

But long story short, Solar is a "Good Eclipse" from another dimension that the Old Moon introduced to Lunar, when Lunar was struggling with his trauma of leaving Eclipse. Good Eclipse and Lunar become friends.

Anyway, here are some key episodes that outline NewMoon and Solar's relationship, as Solar had never met the Old Moon.

Old Moon had never met Solar. It was New Moon who introduced himself to Solar to help defeating Eclipse once and for all. (and by this point lunar had died)

He was actually surprised that this Moon was a chill Moon and could be reasoned with and talked to, considering he was living a rather oppressive life from his own Moon.

There's also a whole episode saga of just these two bantering and talking while they work on the satellite together. I can't remember which specific episodes those are.

Moon saving Solar's life: (also the death of the bad Eclipse)

Everything is good and happy after Eclipse dies for awhile. (aside of Ruin and Bloodmoon wrecking shit) He goes back to his own dimension... and you get to see what his sad life is like:

From his Moon calling him "byproduct" and failure very often.

But... Something happens and Solar is forced to come to Moon's dimension

here's Solar at his poor little meow meow "I have nowhere to go" stage and just... thought to go to Moon immediately due to their history.

Moon's only question about Solar moving in, is that if he wanted him to blacklist his dimension once he heard what was going on with his Moon.

And immediately, Solar jumps in to help Moon with his problems.

Also during the halloween takeover part 2 electric boogaloo, Solar was the one to help get Sun and Moon back after being teleported to a different dimension with no hopes of returning

Also, after Ruin was cured and Bloodmon ran off, Solar rebuilt the ruined Daycare in a week. And Moon is so grateful for it. (i rewatch this episode a lot. It cemented the ship in my mind and built the commodity that they've been building up for months)

We also get what Solar's daily life is like so far... How out of place he feels, being someone from a different dimension, despite the Brothers (and sister's) insistence, he still doesn't really feel like he's part of the family. He feels like an outsider. (He also has less opportunities to hang out with Lunar. As he expressed interest in playing games with him like the good old days, and as of recently, they have not yet)

also a good example of the Celestial family changing minds on family dynamics because they are robots. Lunar flat out rejected Vegeta-Animatronic is his brother even if he technically is. Like, they're robots. They can change their relationships to each other based on their word. I like to see it more flexible then it is in reality with actual people/humans.

Moon also trying to make Solar feel comfortable and feel like he's adjusting well here. Expressing his concern for him doing so much for him and his family. And hoping to not pressure him into so much work.

As of recently, his Sun died, and he killed his Moon. And in his therapy session (on the Lunar and Earth Show) he expressed regret over "Leaving" them...

But he has not properly told anyone about this.

My reasoning is that he probably thinks that the family will jump on the chance to call him "Evil" .....They don't have good luck with Eclipses.... and every Eclipse they met other than him has been Evil. (that must weigh on you. Every version of yourself is deemed as evil across every dimension. You are the only good one. Maybe there is something wrong with you)

I'm already at the video limit, but on Lunar and Earth show, there is an interesting episode where Lunar goes into Solar's head, and his mindscape looks like the Willy Wonka TV room, because it was a movie he watched with his Sun before they separated and Sun died. Showing that he did care about his Sun a whole lot... Which is probably why he doesn't interact with our Sun that much alone.

He also compartmentalizes everything before he can feel emotions, playing his own memories in third person as if he's not experiencing them.

Not to mention, he organizes and separates his thoughts on NewMoon and HIS Moon, just so he won't associate the two.

I also missed what episode it was, but Solar is always the first to call Moon out when he's being angry, or irrational, and Sun admits in his therapy session, that Solar is the only person who can calm Moon down. (mainly cus he's used to it, but unlike his old moon, this moon listens)

Anyway...

The song is Angel Dust's first official music video that he wrote after breaking free of Valentino's deal.

Ozzie had offered him a job to Club Ozzie's first Pride ring branch and Angel never felt happier.

He got into music as an outlet for his emotions, releasing 'Addict' and 'Poison' to the public via Al's radio show. (He managed to convince Alastor to do it cos it would make his ratings skyrocket past Vox and Alastor loves nothing more than kicking Vox when he's already down)

After the success of his first 2 songs, Angel decided that maybe the 3rd one should have a music video.

With the help of Ozzie as his producer, the project is a go.

Writing the song was the easy part. Angel wanted it to sound fun but also resonate with his past experiences (just read the translation of the lyrics! The one angel wrote is from this Cover!)

One day, he and Ozzie were brainstorming at the Sin's office at the Pride branch.

Ozzie: Angel, this is your first music video! It must be grand! Showstopping! Jaw-dropping! Never before seen! Revolutionary!

Angel: But how do I do that, big dick boss man? I don't think even being greatest porn star Hell has ever seen will wow people now. I've done lots of things and I can't think of anything else.

Ozzie: Hmmm

Just then, Lucifer enters the office.

Lucifer: Ozzie! Just who I'm looking for. I need you to do some inspection regarding your crystals. I just talked to Belphagor and she said that her team just confiscated a whole ton in some imp warehouse in Greed. I know I don't need to meddle but I wouldn't be worried if it was anywhere else. Who knows what Mammon is doing with those and- oh! Angel!

Angel: Heya, Short king.

Lucifer: What are you doing here?

Angel: I work here, baby~

Lucifer: Oh! I knew that haha. And what's this?

The King of Hell gestures to the board they were using for notes.

Angel: Don't tell anyone, but I'm gonna be releasin a new song and it's gonna have a music video!

Lucifer: Really?! That's great! It hasn't been that long too since Poison, wasn't it?

Angel: Yeah, but we wanna catch these motherfuckers off guard

Ozzie: That's why we're brainstorming how we can wow these desensitised demons. I still think we can do-

Lucifer: Why don't I do it?

Angel and Ozzie blink in surprise at the King's words.

Angel: Do what?

Lucifer: Act! In your music video! You know, instead of you, I'll be the uhhh 'rabbit girl'? Not that- you're uh- not enough I just mean that uhm- I think the last thing they'd expect is the King of Hell a sinner's music video.

Angel: Babe, you do know this would be a not safe for work type thing, right?

Lucifer: Yeah? I know? I know you better than you might think, you know.

Ozzie: You sure? Cos Charlie might see this.

Angel: Yeah. I know I don't wanna see my dad basically naked dancing to music.

Lucifer: You can go through it with her if it makes you feel any better. But I'm up for anything.

The two others in the room just stare at him with their mouths wide open.

Lucifer: But if you don't want I...

Angel: Hell no! We are doing this!

Ozzie: Hell won't know what hit em.

Charlie gave it a green light cos she's so excited about her dad finally socializing and breaking out of his cocoon to really realize what everything is about. Angel wants to record a reaction of the hotel for research purposes.

A few weeks later, the video is done and it's dropped out of nowhere.

Ozzie invited the Sins to the hotel for an exclusive live viewing (he and Angel ofc knew what time it would be released and set the whole thing up)

Everyone sat in the lobby in front of a giant projector (No, Alastor, you can't watch a video on the radio!), and as the clock struck at 9:13 AM on a random Tuesday, the video played.

Let's just say that it certainly did leave mouth agaped and caused mass panic.

Whumptober Day 9

Learning everything ain't what it seems that's the thing about these days / Polaroid / Mistaken identity / "You're a liar" I used the alternative list for "Reluctant Whumper"

"Please I don't want to do this to them", Whumpee shakily held onto the crowbar.

"You can pick another weapon, but we all know they deserve it, you can do it", a masked man stood behind them watching.

Whumpee eyed Whumper, who was tied to a chair in front of them. Whumper yelled through their gag.

The masked man glided towards Whumper. He grabbed Whumper's chin and pulled their face up to look in his eyes.

Whumper's eyes were wide in fear, they breathed heavily into the gag.

"You deserve everything you are about to receive, I've watched for to long before I could act", the masked man dropped Whumper's head, they looked back at the terrified Whumpee, "Whumpee will get their revenge, one way or another", they sighed.

"Okay go to town", the masked figure stepped aside.

Whumpee looked at Whumper, then at the crowbar, "I-I can't", the crowbar fell to the ground with a heavy klink, "I'm not them, I can't do it, I'm sorry."

The masked figure knelt down and cocked their head to the side. They studied Whumpee for what felt like eternity.

"I'm sorry, but who are you?", Whumpee looked at them, "you said you've been watching for a while, but I've never seen you before."

"Some have called me an entity, a watcher. I prefer magician myself. You called me to you a while ago, you never realized, but you've felt my presence", as though he knew what the next question was, "I had to wait for my strength to gather before I could offer aid, I am not from your plain of existence my power isn't as strong here and it takes a while."

Whumpee whimpered, "I remember a ghostly figure once."

"There is no need to be afraid of me, I was called to you because you needed my help. I am your protector now", the masked figure stood back up, "I almost expected you to not be able to hurt Whumper, I wanted to know for sure though."

Whumpee looked at Whumper, then back at the masked figure, "I can't, I'm not Whumper. Causing more violence to an already violent situation will not bring peace."

A chuckle came from the masked figure, "you will be an honor to protect, so pure. Even in the face of evil you offer forgiveness and peace."

Whumper thrashed in the chair bringing their attention back to them.

"Unfortunately, I can not let you go unchecked and unscathed", the masked figure sighed, "you are to dangerous, I'm sure by the time I'm done with you, you will wish they enacted their revenge, not left me to do it."

"Whumpee I will enact your revenge, I will cause them the same grief and pain they've caused you. They will feel how you felt for so long", the figure picked up the crowbar, "these earthly weapons mean nothing to me, but I have to conserve as much power as I can."

Whumper looked at him terrified.

"Please no", Whumpee pleaded.

"I'm sorry, I know it's horrific to your tender soul, you do not have to witness it", the masked figure sighed, "if we left them like this they could get free and hurt someone else. You have to let me."

Whumpee reluctantly looked at Whumper, then at the figure.

"They could hurt others?", Whumpee looked up sadly, not realizing that truth sooner.

"Yes."

"Are you going to kill them?", Whumpee sobbed.

"You do not have to witness it, you can go wait a few rooms over", the masked figure stated again.

"Your not saying no", Whumpee sobbed more.

"I am bonded to you, I am not able to lie to you, but i don't have to tell you whats going to happen", the masked figure crept closer to Whumper, "I'm starting in 10 seconds, I suggest you leave now. I will join you when I am done."

Whumpee whimpered and glanced at Whumper. The masked figure was standing in front of him now.

Whumper shot a terrified glance at Whumpee, then looked back at the figure. They screamed again into gag.

Whumpee watched the crowbar get raised. They darted out of the room as fast they could. They heard the crowbar make contact. They heard rhe scream.

Whumpee hid in the living room and buried themself under blankets and pillows. The figure both comforted and terrified them. What did they mean by protect and not being part of this existence.

They couldn't hear what was going on though so that was good.

Back in the room, Whumper squirmed as the crowbar came down again.

The masked figure searched the room for Whumpee, "I had hoped they would leave so I can show my true form, I mustn't allow them to see that side of me." The figure removed the mask to reveal their face.

Whumper weakly looked. The horrid face wasn't even a face, no eyes, no mouth, no nose. Whumper screamed.

The face morphed, "I take on the form of what scares you most, that is why I wear the mask", the figure chuckled, "hmm, this figure haunted your nightmares when you were young. I'm glad this is who will kill you in the end."

Whumper screamed again as the figure came closer.

"I'm going to eat you now, that way you are completely removed from this existence", the figure removed the gag.

"No don't, I'm sorry, I'm sorry", Whumper thrashed.

"It's to late to apologize."

Whumpee jumped when they heard a loud scream.

They peaked out of the blankets to see the masked figure standing at the doorway to the room.

"The deed is done, they can not hurt you anymore", the figure bowed, "any request for me."

"Can I ask a question?", Whumpee shook.

"Yes of course", the figure lowered itself to kneel, "you may notice, my form is my hazy now. I am but a shadow in this existence, it takes a lot of my energy to materialize."

Whumpee nodded, "I'm sorry, but I'm comforted by your presence, but still scared of you. What are you here for?"

The figure sighed, "about a month ago, you asked for help in a way that invoked my presence to you. Unfortunately my presence isn't the best here, so I had to wait to gather strength to aid you. I tried my best to comfort you though. I'm bound to you until you ask me to leave, I will take the form of your shadow, and go with you."

Whumpee looked at them confused and lost for words.

"I will explain more later", the figure stood and cautiously approached Whumpee, "you must rest now, you have been through a lot in a short time. Rest now."

"What do I call you?", Whumpee watched the figure.

"You can call me magician, everything will be alright. I promise to take care of you."

Headcanons for Akashi getting scared?

I am back to indulge in my chronic Akashi brainrot. Please forgive me for the dissertation I'm about to drop on your timeline.

Now, first of all, we must establish that canonically (or at the very least, to my knowledge) Akashi has no phobias. BUT ☝🏿 I think that even with zero phobias, you can still get startled by things. So I'll just be talking about that.

Similar to my sleeping headcanons where I said it's probably very difficult to catch Akashi sleeping, it's probably equally, if not more, as difficult to startle him.

Since he's a very perceptive person and is always observing others whether they're aware of it or not, I would think it's pretty hard to startle someone who's always watching you. Because of this, there are only two scenarios in which I would think he'd ever be startled by something/somebody.

1: if he's really, really, REALLY focused on something. This is based on an NG-shuu from season 1 of the anime, where Akashi is playing shogi by himself and Midorima is trying to talk to him, but he's so focused on his game that he's not listening to half the things that Midorima says to him. NG-shuus are not canon events, I know, but it does give you a glimpse into how certain characters might act if a scenario played out differently. That's why Akashi pegs me as the type to focus on something so hard that he stops caring about his surroundings and focuses solely on whatever is in front of him, therefore making it easier to startle him in that state.

2: if he's let his guard down. This may sound similar to the first scenario but let me elaborate. If I were to make an analogy, scenario 1 is like sneaking up on a predator when the predator is sneaking up on something else; scenario 2 is like sneaking up on a predator while they're relaxing and not on high alert. Startling Akashi in scenario 2 would be possible simply because he feels safe enough to not be as observant of his surroundings. But since he almost always has his guard up, to startle him in this way would be a once-in-a-blue-moon opportunity.

I've discussed the scenarios in which it would be possible to startle Akashi, but let's address the elephant in the room: what would actually startle this boy?

Loud noises would be one of them, I think. If he's immersed in something or is relaxed enough and not expecting it, I think a loud noise would definitely startle him and raise his heckles. Think back to Kuroko's very first game during middle school when Akashi was caught off guard by the sound of Kuroko tripping over himself and falling. That's a milder example since Kuroko falling probably wasn't even that loud, but I would like to think that the louder the sound, the more startled he would be.

The second thing would be people touching him suddenly. Again, he's seen as a very high and mighty intimidating person. One does not simply touch Akashi Seijuro. Most physical contact he has with others is in the form of high-fives and fist-bumps. The other type of contact is the occasional hand on the shoulder from the Uncrowned Kings in his team, and even then it's mostly from Mibuchi. The times he's most surprised (at least while he's his original self) is when someone touches him when his guard is down and he doesn't have time to react.

The most prominent example of this is in season 3 volume 5 of the drama CDs when Nijimura invites him along to go get a meat bun from the convenience store. When he finds out that Akashi has never gone out to buy food on the way home, he decides to initiate Akashi into those types of things. It's only an audio CD so I can't see what's happening, but it sounded like Nijimura grabbed him--maybe by the arm, or maybe he swung an arm around Akashi's shoulder--and just pulled him along to the door. The moment Nijimura grabs him, Akashi sounds audibly surprised. His voice even gets higher in pitch when he tries to (weakly) protest that he wasn't even that hungry anyway. This probably comes from the fact that he doesn't engage in a lot of physical contact with his friends, so when something past a high-five or a hand on the shoulder occurs he's like ⁉️ for a quick sec, especially if he's being manhandled like I assumed Nijimura to be doing in the drama CD.

And, let's say that through some miracle, Akashi is actually startled by something/someone. What would he look like when he's startled? Well, for reference, what did he look like when Kuroko tripped and fell during a game?

As you can see, this boy looks like a literal cat when he's surprised or startled. He just has this very owlish expression with the way his eyes widen and his mouth is slightly open, which makes him look so adorable.

Going off of this, I would for sure think that he looks pretty similar to this when he gets startled. But when he startles, I don't think he would make any noise. Akashi and Aomine would probably be on opposite sides of the spectrum, in that regard. Akashi would probably be someone who would jolt a bit or even flinch if you've REALLY caught him at a bad time, but scream? Never. Over his dead body, in fact.

And the last part of this: if he startles around other people, how would they react to seeing his startled face?

I would think the first few times it happens, none of his friends (both in Teiko and Rakuzan) wants to mention it because they don't want to face Akashi's wrath in case he doesn't want the others to notice. But over time, especially post-Winter Cup, Akashi is more open and also more easygoing, so his friends feel more comfortable acknowledging it, whether it's apologizing for startling him or even lightly teasing him about it.

And, like I said, he canonically has no phobias, but that doesn't mean his friends haven't tried to see if he did. They prodded him about multiple things like ghosts (doesn't believe in them), roller coaster rides (he doesn't mind them but he doesn't go out of his way to ride them), bugs (he's not afraid of them but he does find them to be distinctly gross-looking), and even the dark (not being able to see isn't scary to him, just massively inconvenient), but he really doesn't have anything, in particular, that he's afraid of.

So to see him startled by anything is, once again, pretty rare. Not many situations in which you can catch this boy lacking. But when he is startled, it's almost refreshing to see. It makes him actually look his age since he's always so serious and pensive. His friends find it interesting to see more of Akashi's various expressions all across the emotional spectrum and secretly hope he shows more of himself as time passes.

Any Red Flags men should know about "nice" girls? Or toxic women generally.

Prides herself on being a crazy/psycho girl. Now for some, this is just a joke. But other times, it isn't. The jealousy is astronomical. But she plays it off as being funny or quirky. "babe, you know how I am." Or she tries to excuse 'crazy' behavior because she has a temper, bad past, etc.

Always getting emotional when you're needing to communicating about a problem--especially if she was part of the problem. She may try to say that she's sensitive or she's that way because of something form her past. But there's a difference. Usually this type of behavior happens because she's trying to evade accountability. You'll drop the subject, possibly apologize and/or comfort her. Nothing gets resolved

Her friends are influencing the relationship. This might be because of what she's telling them, which may not be the complete truth. Or she is just easily influenced by them

"You just don't get my humor." Sometimes they'll use that to be hurtful. It was just a joke, you didn't get it

They'll flirt with other guys (or girls, if they're attracted to them too) or they don't stop someone who is flirting with them. And if you say something, you're just insecure

Comes up with a demand. The demand is too crazy so she comes up with something that seems reasonable but it isn't. Okay, she won't go sneaking a peek at your phone anymore when you're in the shower. Just let her have a look every once and a while just to ease her mind

And speaking of phones; she wants your password(s) because it's a sign that you trust each other. I get it that it works for some people. Some people are totally fine with it. But she shouldn't just have his expectation right off the bat and expect you to adhere to it or you're branded a cheater or something

"Sorry you feel that way." Usually if that is said, it's basically another way of saying that sounds like a you problem because they're trying to make you seem at fault for being upset about what was said/done

Pay attention to how she talks about other people like exes or friends (past friends), etc. If she is the victim every single time or you just notice a pattern, that's likely not a good sign

Doesn't like when you have time to yourself or with your friends. She may not get mad (at first). It may seem flattering because she wants to be with you but she shouldn't be demanding all your time all the time

Now I've seen people say that if she doesn't have any female friends then that's a sign of her being toxic, but I think it depends on the attitude she has towards other girls. To say that she's toxic based on that is as dumb as saying that boys who have more girl friends are gay. Now if she tries to act like she's superior or something like that, then yeah that's not a good sign

Chapter 14: A Cold Shoulder

I don't know what to expect from our relationship after last night's kiss in the Forbidden Forest. Neither do I know how to act around him. However, I did not expect to see him laughing with the gorgeous Ravenclaw-girl clinging onto his arm. As I enter the Charms classroom I have to control myself in order not to let my jaw drop to the floor.

I sit down next to Ominis without saying a word. I can't take my eyes off Sebastian, who seems to be living his best life and has completely forgotten about our evening together. As class starts, I can feel his eyes burning on me. I don't understand what's going on. First he doesn't even look my way and now he can't take his eyes off of me? I start writing on the assignment and do not even care to try and catch his stare. Ominis seems to notice how upset I am.

''Everything alright?'' He asks in a soft voice.

''Yes, why wouldn't it be?' I ask him back.

''Your energy just seems off.'' He tells me kindly. ''You're normally the kind of person who lightens the mood, but not today.''

''I'm just stressed over the assignments. And nervous before my first quidditch game on Saturday.'' I tell him, trying to lighten my mood but hoping that he can no longer sense how upset I am.

''Ah, Slytherin versus Hufflepuff. It's going to be an easy win.'' He smiles kindly. ''So this has nothing to do with Sebastian and Milena?''

''Who's Milena?'' I ask him, suspecting that he's referring to the girl from Ravenclaw.

''The girl from Ravenclaw who loves spending time with him.'' Ominis explains. ''However, I don't think he's enjoying her company as much.''

''Why's that?'' I ask him.

''I've known Sebastian for a long time. He is the oldest friend I have, so I'd say I know him pretty well.'' Ominis sounds as if he's going to tell me a secret. He lowers his voice. ''And trust me when I say, that man will not stop talking about you. Frankly, it's rather annoying. No offence to you, but I'm growing rather tired of hearing about you constantly.''

It's almost as if my heart lights up. The dark cloud that was hanging over me earlier seem to have disappeared within the blink of an eye. I cannot blame Ominis for being annoyed with Sebastian, but me on the other hand, is absolutely thrilled to hear that he actually talks about me. Despite all of our conversations and events that have happened, I cannot get rid of the feeling telling me that it's all in my head. That he's just being a good friend. That my feelings are one-sided.

The weekend arrives and it's time for the quidditch match. The only time I have been more nervous lately was when I was meeting Sebastian for our first date. It's snowing and the frost has bitten the nature all around the quidditch field. It looks dreamy afar, but for someone who needs to be out in the freezing nature its dreaminess fades. The sun is shining, making the thin cover of ice on the Black Lake shimmer.

''Our practice will not go to waste!'' Imelda is trying to give the team a pep talk as we're approaching the quidditch field. ''Do you hear me?''

Everyone responds 'yes' in a choir, terrified of what might happen if we stay silent. She turns around, facing the team, before the gates where we are supposed to enter.

''I understand that you're all nervous, but we must win today.'' She says with a serious tone. I have never seen Imelda looking this serious, yet put together. Her aura is screaming confidence. ''We are better than Hufflepuff. Their team has nothing on us. Just keep your nerves together, and are going to have the celebration of the year in the common room tonight. Do you hear me?''

She actually makes me feel more confident. As we mount our brooms and I check out the Hufflepuff seeker, I realize that this match is going to be an easy victory. Ominis was right. We fly a lap around the pitch and wave at our Slytherin friends, who are cheering extremely loud as we pass them. I catch a glimpse of Sebastian and I'm convinced I saw him wink at me. It could just have been his eye twitching, but I decide for myself that he was winking at me.

Hufflepuff manages to score a few goals, but not nearly as many as Slytherin. After a good couple of hours I see the golden snitch catch some rays of sun, almost making me go blind from the brightness. I ignore everything going on around me, diving for the snitch. Everything around me ceases to exist. Just like when Sebastian kissed me. And I catch the snitch. As I get off my broom, the entire Slytherin team hugs me and the noise from the bleachers are deafening. I know Slytherins love to win, but this is more than I expected. I hear them screaming my name and the feeling is indescribable.

Later that night the common room turned into a full blown party. Everyone has gathered by the windows facing the Black Lake, loud music is playing and everyone is cheering. The sensation is immaculate. When my fellow housemates see me approaching, they start cheering my name. People whom I have barely spoken to before tell me how good I did in the field. I feel proud and go up to the table with drinks to get one. Imelda catches me with a drink in my hand.

''I knew you were the right seeker.'' She says in an incredibly satisfied tone. ''This win is yours, take it all in. These are your hours of fame.''

I smile at her and agree with her. This evening belongs to me. As the evening proceeds the younger Slytherin students start heading to bed. At this point there are only 6th and 7th years left in the common room. I'm standing by a window chatting with a couple of 7th years who were really impressed by my play today. I feel hands on my shoulders and turn around. It's Imelda.

''Are you ready for a real Slytherin party?'' She asks and gives me a cheeky smile.

''Never been more ready.'' I tell her, as I glance around the room trying to catch a glimpse of Sebastian. He is nowhere to be seen.

A/ster queried Lightlark for 10 years and was rejected for 10 years. She's 27 now, which means she wrote Lightlark at 17... and I get the feeling she edited very little if none at all in these 10 years. Just like Mess wrote ToG when she was a teen.

The book definitely needed a couple more rounds of editing at the very least. The writing is juvenile (teens are so smart! start treating them as such!), the rep virtually non existent (one relevant character is poc and gay, yay tokenism!), the misogyny ("pure", not like other girls protagonist, the slut-shaming). These are deep issues with the author's and editor's mentality and aren't easy to get rid of. But more editing would've definitely improved the writing style, at least.

But the publisher was in a hurry...

10 years of rejections, then A/ster makes a viral tiktok and bam! one week later she's contacted and signed by a publisher. The hype continues, A/ster sells the movie rights. The publisher does everything in their power to ride the wave and publish the book as quickly as possible.

Less than a year and a half from that tiktok, Lightlark is published... after 10 years of rejections.

I'm sorry to sound like an asshole, but rejections happen for a reason. Yes, agents want something that's easy to sell, the industry churns out books like a fast food chain, creativity isn't always welcome... but sometimes your writing is just bad? This wasn't a case of Lightlark being "too mold-breaking", too creative to have a place and a market in YA. Not at all. It's just like any other YA I've read by super hyped authors.

Something something publishing is a business that only cares for money and hype

A/ster also acts like this is her first novel when it's not. I understand it's her YA debut, but she acts like her duology doesn't exist. I know her agent dropped her because the duology wasn't as successful as expected and A/ster couldn't stop talking about the Lightlark project, but still.

The biggest issue is that people were promised a "diverse Hunger Games meets ACOTAR". Diverse being the key word. And people were really excited because A/ster is Latina.

Her parents are both millionaires, she and her twin sisters were given money to start their various businesses, but her mom does come from Colombia. So even though A/ster is a rich, privileged, young pretty girl (like most YA authors atm) people were excited. Especially poc.

Baiting diversity is just so low 🤢🤦🏾‍♀️

the timeline is, as i understand it, more along the lines of she’s queried various books for years (and anyone—not you, anon, but i’ve seen a lot of people throw doubt about this—saying it’s unrealistic that she queried for a decade bc she’s only 27 is unfair, and i can use myself as an example bc i too am 27 and have been actively trying to get published since i was 17, having written books from the age of 12) and then signed with her first agent for her middle grade books. those released in 2020 and 2021, but the numbers weren’t doing so hot, probably thanks to the pandemic. Aster meanwhile was writing Lightlark and refusing to work on anything else, even though her agent said no to Lightlark many times (which is a fair thing for agents to do! they know the market better than any writer, so if an agent says “no, work on something else bc this won’t work in the market,” you should take that under serious consideration). bc Aster refused to work on anything else and her agent didn’t want Lightlark, they parted ways (which is also a fair thing, however much it might suck; besides, knowing what we do of Lightlark, i can see why her first agent said no), after which Aster went on tiktok and made her viral video and then, presumably, queried Lightlark with that under her belt. that then got her a new agent, who also then used that viral video to sell Lightlark to her editor, and from there to foreign publishers bc she has like a dozen of them now (or at least did when i last checked).

so yeah, all of this definitely comes down to the publishing industry seeing an easy dollar and deciding to run with it. if they spent more time on edits to make the prose more elegant, the world-building and plot more cohesive, clean up the bad elements you listed, anon, and made the characters more realistic, i could see why publishing decided to publish the book. it does have a premise that would bring a lot of people in (hence why it went viral and why so many people are excited about it) but the premise doesn’t do as promised, and very few of the things Aster claimed were in the book in her various tiktoks are actually in the book, so people feel and very much have been lied to. the ratings on goodreads say more than enough, i think, especially since a good number of the one star reviews are based on those readers having actually read the book/listened to the audiobook (i read a lot of them, so idk why people in various places are acting like most of those one star reviews are people just being mean to Aster).

and to be fair, an author and their publisher acting like an author’s new book is their debut isn’t unheard of. my best friend had that happen to her (though not bc her technical debut was bad or its sales didn’t do well) and i’m sure countless other authors have, too, even if the author doesn’t publish/re-debut under a pen name. it could happen for many reasons, but especially when sales don’t do well and it’d be more marketable to have an author be introduced as a debut vs an established author with mediocre sales. and from what i’ve seen, she still posts about her MG debut on her insta? or at the very least she hasn’t deleted those various posts about it. but, granted, i don’t pay attention to her tiktok so it’s completely possible i just missed her acting like her MG debut never happened.

either way, there’s a lot of hurt she caused by making readers expect things she promised were in the book, not only from a plot/trope standpoint but as an author of color promising to write a book for readers of color who wanted an ac0tar where they actually exist and in center stage. it’s no surprise to me she’s getting a lot of flack for that. like you said, diversity baiting is fucked.

I just beat the dlc for Monster hunter Rise. I definitely am feeling, mixed about the scientist character.

I could probably send you a giant paragraph--and I was till i realized it was a 12 paragraph essay that I was about to drop in your inbox. But basically at its core, its a Scientist who often gets distracted. He sometimes doesn't follow though with expected societal normals. (You go to shake his hand, he does not shake your hand, and the protagonist just looks so upset at that! To be fair, he's distracted at that moment by field research, and had seen something that he felt was incredibly important. )

The character is a non-human character, kinda. (He's a Wyverian, which is basically their Elf-people. They have four fingers, elf ears, and long lifespan. Wyverians frequently show up as Researchers/leaders of the government structures, so the fact that he's a wyverian scientist isn't exactly suspicious, but the fact that he seams to be coded with something while also being a different species then the human ones feels a little dubious.

The other characters also frequently express annoyance at him. Like extreme annoyance. Like, the leader fellow outright says 'His genus has more then earned him a place on this team, even if he is annoying'. Which is kinda terrible to say when he's standing right there next to him!

Often because he will frequently ask them if they ate/rested, which he admits is something he finds to be a problem. (He gets so distracted by his science work that he forgets to eat/drink, until it hits him all at once. Because he often does this, he wants to warn the others/don't have them suffer the same mistakes he does. He also asks you to do the same of him-he deserves to rest too! )

Basically, I definitely feel mixed things to this character. While I ultimately like them, I also worry about the portrayal a bit. Figured I'd tell you about them since you discussed doing some sort of essay about harmful autistic portrayals in the media. While i'm not sure he's particularly harmful, that uncertainty probably is a good thing to be told about, and there could be things you're noticing that I did not. . There are definitely parts I "dislike", but the parts I disliked where more "These characters really are being mean to him when he's just trying to be nice/helpful/caring. This feels far to realistic. ".

The fact that he's a Wyverian is also sorta, iffy to me. Where in universe there are plenty of justifications/reasons why this would be the case, so it leaves me wondering 'Is this okay because there were reasons, or is it still sorta iffy' . (Wyverians are often scientists, and this is a scientist character. Also him being old enough to know certain information was used as a plot point)

Since the dlc is incredibly new, and its unlikely you'd find a lot of information on the character specifically, figured i'd tell ya about him. I probably didn't do the best job. (The games aren't' known for their stories so longplays/other gameplay probably won't talk to every character repeatedly at every opportunity, and thus his dialogue about wanting to keep others from making his repeated mistakes is very easily missed.)

This is a great example of what we call "autistic coding." This character isn't stated to be autistic outright, but he acts visibly autistic, right down to hyperfocusing and forgetting to eat (something I know I've done many, many times in my life).

There's a fine line with autistic-coded characters being non-human species. It's one thing if most of the members of the species act neurotypical, and this one in particular seems autistic, because that's more representative of what it's like to be neurodivergent - you're in the minority. But if an entire species acts this way, it can be verrrry iffy, because if the entire species is autistic-coded, it feels more like "these aliens/elves/non-humans represent how autistic people are not human," which is obviously a terrible message to send, unless you're specifically doing it to show that autistic people aren't seen as human and that changes during the story due to advocacy.

Unfortunately, it seems pretty realistic in the sense of people just saying he's annoying right in front of him, because I know I've experienced that, and so have most other autistic people at least once. They act like we either can't hear them or straight-up do it to be mean, and it hurts. I grew up thinking I had to be excessively useful to get people to keep me around, because otherwise I'd be "too annoying" and cast off, and that ultimately ended horribly for me because I fell into an emotionally abusive friendship in undergrad out of a desperate desire to not be alone and to continue to be helpful/a good friend.

I guess a good way to look at it is like this:

Is he shown as different not just from the humans, but the other Wyverians?

Do his own people refer to him as "odd" or "annoying," or is it only humans?

Is it normal for his people to not shake hands as a greeting? Do they have their own greeting that he also is too distracted to do?

If he's an oddball amongst his own people, it's very different from his entire species being coded as autistic. It can often come down to how other people like him see him - if other members of his species also sees him as "weird" or "annoying," then he's probably being coded pretty well. If he's representative of his species as a whole (i.e. he's the only one you ever see, or they all act like him), then it can veer towards a more dangerous area.

RRR (2022, dir. S. S. Rajamouli) - review by Rookie-Critic

I honestly don't really want to say anything about this movie other than it is one of the most entertaining roller coasters of a film I have ever had the absolute pleasure of watching. I honestly think you should go into this as blind as physically possible, but for the sake of the review I will write some things out and try to keep it all spoiler-free.

I've never really been interested in Tollywood (Telugu cinema) or Bollywood (Hindi cinema) films before, mostly out of a place of ignorance; they just never really seemed like "my thing," or at least that's what I always told myself. I have watched a few before and I've liked them. They're generally very fun, absolutely buckwild movies that are wholly unique to that part of the world, and even before watching RRR I always thought there was something very admirable in that. I had heard about this and remember when it dropped on Netflix back in May, I remember the internet being completely taken over by talk of how amazing this film is. It was 100% on my radar, and I still didn't make it a priority watch, and for that I feel absolutely ashamed. I am going to write this next statement with the full knowledge and awareness that I am completely out of my element with this genre and have absolutely no expertise to speak on it at all, but this has the be the absolute pinnacle of this style. Not just director S. S. Rajamouli's magnum opus, but Tollywood's as a whole. I have never come out the other end of a film so unabashedly joyous at how much fun I had just had. This movie is not only as over-the-top and bombastic as you would expect a Tollywood blockbuster to be (in my opinion, it feels even more so than the few others I've seen), but it is also incredibly emotionally engaging, and Rajamouli has managed to somehow balance both of these aspects in perfect harmony. The emotionally-charged scenes don't feel silly, and the silly over-the-top action scenes seem completely self-aware, it's a perfect mix. There are musical numbers in the film, which normally is a turn off for me, but they're used to such great and entertaining effect while also moving the plot forward. There is one song in the movie that is, and I say this with 100% confidence, the most moving and powerful musical sequence I have ever seen in a film. I was slack-jawed and blown away by it. I would also like to point out that, in a year with so many overstuffed and overlong films (Babylon, Bardo, Avatar 2, Elvis, The Fabelmans, Triangle of Sadness. I could keep going, but I'll stop), RRR is a 182 minute film that, when it's over and the credits are rolling across the screen, you'll wish wasn't. I was fully entertained by every single solitary second of this movie, never once feeling anything even resembling boredom. I was utterly and deeply enthralled by all 3 hours and 2 minutes of RRR, and that's not something I can say for hardly any other movie that is over the 3-hour benchmark.

If I had to say anything, ANYTHING, negative about RRR, it's that, like most non-English language films that utilize English-speaking actors, the English-speaking actors aren't doing... the best job. However, most of them don't take up too much screen time, and part of me wonders if the actors' acting was actually bad, or if it was how they were directed to act. Another part of me also knows that that is just kind of part of the genre, and I'm not sure I want to even hold that against it. Then, even another part of me wonders if I would even have that opinion if the actors weren't speaking English. Regardless, in the grand scope of the film, this feels like an insane nitpick to have. RRR is purely fun and easily one of last year's best films. Watch it as soon as you have the opportunity to. I know I say that whenever I like something a lot, but seriously, set aside 3 hours as soon as you possibly can and watch RRR.

The Hindi dub of the film is currently streaming on Netflix.

I, personally, found a way watch the original Telugu audio version of the film, and that is how I would recommend viewing it if you can, but I'm sure the Hindi dub is fine, as well.

How do you feel about adding Serge from Megalopolis to your roundup? (Personally, I'm not going super crazy over the pics and the little bit I've read about his character, but I suppose it'll depend on how he's revealed in the movie.)

I was seriously excited when the Megalopolis news dropped. Francis Ford Coppola made the sexiest Dracula movie ever and even managed to make Gary Oldman kind of hot! I assumed he would make AD smoldering hot! I even read the script myself and although I wasn’t blown away, I thought it could be fun and had potential. I even like the name Serge. And I definitely love and prefer anti-heroes, villains, and bastards!

It was a bad day for me when those pics of that absolutely hideous hair dropped. Omg I was and am so pissed about it! What a fucking travesty to butcher AD’s hair like that - a man who has some of the best hair out there. It’s criminal. It’s like one of my best friends has said — Paul Giamatti exists and he’s a superb actor, so if you want someone who looks fugly but can act, get someone who’s fugly and can act! Don’t get one of the hottest men in the world and turn him into Paul Giamatti!

I personally only like men with good hair that is at least on the longer side and facial hair, both in actors and in real life. Almost without exception, short hair and clean shaven is a no-fly zone for me, along with blondes, redheads, and small men 🤣 There are exceptions, of course! But the super short Serge cut is an absolute turnoff for me. I just can’t. There is nothing he could do to redeem himself into being attractive to me short of getting a makeover. I might like the movie and the character, that remains to be seen, and I actually assume I might. But he’s very very unattractive to me. Like White Noise, I actually liked the movie quite a lot, but I’m very not into Jack as an object of attraction lol. If anyone else is into them, that’s awesome and more power to you! But it’s not my thing.

I’m so so happy for and excited by 65! I’m absolutely adding Mills to my lineup and I already have a couple things in the works for him and a bigger story planned. I’m also working on a fun AU for one of my friends who made an AD edit that looks like Cruella DeVille and asked for a thing with him 🤣 After 65 though, it looks like I’m in for a long drought of characters I find hot and am excited by.

As of January 1, I dropped Clyde, Henry, and Charlie from my lineup because I’m just so much more into Jacques and Flip, and I know I’m going to be obsessed with Mills. For the foreseeable future, I’ll be keeping my lineup to them and Kylo AUs. I’ll have my plate full with those four for anything I try to write this year. I also just enjoy writing them the most. And some other guys may show up for cameos here and there or as specials for friends!

I’ve really been losing steam with the fic business just because it seems like there are much more meaningful and productive things I could and should be doing with my time. I have a novel I’m finishing and another crank out this year, so those definitely take priority, but I’ve generally enjoyed splitting it up with fics. I’ve literally written over a million words in fiction since 2020, and I go back and forth as to whether or not its been worth it or just a pathetic waste of time and cry for help 🤣 It feels like throwing it out into a void a lot of the time. However, at least it’s been good practice, which is why I’ve kept it up!

If you are into or get into Serge, I’m sure there will be plenty of fics out there for him! I expect him to be one of the more popular guys in fics going forward. If you get into Mills, I’ll definitely be your guy for him!
