𐙚 This man is the sweetest and dumbest creature alive, because the first time he meets you, you were probably injured and he really doesn't stop to think that huh, maybe your fancy appearance means you're probably a deity he shouldn't approach so casually??? Nah, bud just wants to help you like a sweetie.

𐙚 Honestly I don't think he'll ever realize you are a goddess until you tell him to his face. He thinks you having powers or looking ethereal every day means you're just an amazing, pretty person and he just wants to be your friend, and if that's not enough to warm your heart then I don't know what is.

𐙚 He's honestly so surprise you tell him you're a goddess because?? Huh?? Fym you're a god?? You mean you don't look amazing naturally every day?? That's because of some heavenly radiance?? He calls BULLSHIT ‼️

𐙚 I don't think your relationship with MK would change to be honest. He's the kind of guy who likes you based on first impressions. If you're someone who's kind and sweet, and honestly not the kind of god who puts herself on a pedestal, his opinion of you simply doesn't change. You're his friend, he cares for you, and he's going to risk his life for you regardless if you can get hurt or not.

𐙚 Though, I also think his friends would tell him to try to be more respectful, and in a way, he'd try. Maybe being silly by greeting you as, “My lady,” instead of by your name or trying to know when he spots you only to fail and look ridiculous hitting his head now and again. He tries, or maybe he's so clumsy because of something else.

𐙚 Between the two of you, MK gets feelings first. Of course he does; the Monkie Kid can't help falling in love with someone so sweet and kind. You're a goddess and yet you probably don't even treat him like he's worth less than you, which is saying a lot compared to other gods he's met (heavy coughs, Li Jing)

𐙚 You'd have to be the one who has to come out and confess as well, otherwise MK is not saying anything. You're a goddess and you're important, and him? He's the hero of the city and literally nothing else. You wouldn't like someone like him over someone like Nezha, right? If you don't spot his feelings and admit you like him, he's dying with his feelings to the grave.

𐙚 If you do confess, well. MK's going to faint. Yeah, surprise; the Monkie Kid has no idea how to react getting confessed to by the love of his life. He's fainting on your ass 😞✌️

𐙚 Okay, seriously; I think he'll adore you even more. If you have a thousand followers, he's one of them, and if you have one follower, he's that one follower. Bro is loyal to a fault, honestly. Please treat him well.

Red Son:

𐙚 The first time he meets you is probably when he's an evil little munchkin and the first thing he tries to do is attack you and burn you to a crisp. You survive and beat the shit out of him and that meeting stays with Red Son even years later. And..oh. Would you look at that? You're the goddess he so happens to meet one day after so many years.

𐙚 Older Red Son wouldn't try to kill you. He's an asshole but he definitely wouldn't throw himself at you after getting a butt whooping by a much younger you who had barely been his height back then. He's not taking the chance yet.

𐙚 In the beginning he'd probably be super insufferable though. Grumbling or complaining every chance he got, and every problem he'd sarcastically ask you to help since you're so holy and amazing. Safe to say, if you don't have a short temper, it's a wonder if he's still alive. If you do, in fact, have a short temper, how the hell did he survive you throwing him into the sea??

𐙚 Red Son is a super standoffish person in my opinion so I think he'll take a long time getting used too. He's a dick in the beginning, but the longer he's around you, the more he softens just a bit. Just a bit, but not enough to stop his bitching. He'd probably challenge you to a duel to prove if you're really a goddess and then get his ass kicked again

𐙚 I honestly think he's also the first to catch feelings too, or maybe he catches feelings the same timing as you. He'd spend his time avoiding you because duh, you're a celestial, and he's a (half) demon. If his parents' relationship didn't work out properly, he wouldn't be any different right?? What if he also cheated on you like his dad had done to his mom?? He couldn't do that, that was too much pressure!!

𐙚 Though, I also think Red Son would be a bit confused about his feelings too. He probably wouldn't know how the fuck he's supposed to react, so what better way than to go to the damn green and yellow duo that gets on his nerve all the time?

𐙚 Red Son's a stubborn ass, but y'know, he means well. He just really sucks at understanding Mei and MK's modern ideas of flirting so when he tries to ‘serenade’ he sets fire to your clothing and buries himself in his room sobbing pathetically over his failure. Please convince him he did fine or else he'll stay in his room and rot.

𐙚 He refuses to let you be the first to confess though, being so competitive and all, so of course…well. He goes to his mom for help, and his mom confesses for him. Kinda embarrassing, I know, but Iron Fan would rather drink a bottle of stale wine than to listen to her son bitch and moan.

𐙚 Red Son is, I think, the most loyal partner alive. If you accept his feelings, he'll probably keep his eyes focused on you. For Christs sake you're a goddess, the fuck would he care for anyone else at this point when he falls in love with the most amazing deity ever??

𐙚 Sadly, he's no MK. He probably won't be anywhere near your temples 😞 but it's okay, he'll worship you in bed― is gunned down.

Mei:

𐙚 One thought: a girl that's bigger than her?? Sign!! Her!! Up!!

𐙚 Mei is legit that one TikTok audio; “Are you a) something, b) something or c) a goddess!?” on your first meeting, and she's definitely right you're a goddess. Probably not a major one but regardless, still a goddess, and in Mei's opinion that's amazing. Like. Hello?? A REAL god that isn't an ASSHOLE like a certain Lotus Prince?!? You're a true blessing in disguise.

𐙚 Though honestly, like MK, you're just a potential friend for her at first. Although she's more blunt and thinks you're drop dead gorgeous, she also treats you just like any other person instead of fawning over you like any other person would. She treats you like you're human, and if you're a deity that likes that sort of treatment, it's welcoming.

𐙚 If you've never experienced modern life in the mortal realm, Mei is definitely treating you to a tour. It doesn't matter that you really should be tending to your temples and other godly business; in Mei's opinion, you deserve a break, and what better way to relax than to explore every shop and stall in Megapolis until you physically cannot move?

𐙚 She would try so hard to impress you, especially with her bike riding skills. She'd even ask you to sit with her and tries to ride without her helmet to look ‘cool’ and nearly crashes into MK on his way home from work.

𐙚 Mei takes you everywhere with her if she's free. Weather station, fucking Pigsy's, MK's bathroom (don't ask). She refuses to leave you alone and unless you ask, she's stuck to you like a rat in a mousetrap.

𐙚 I think of the trio she's probably a bit more understanding? At least with the pressure and responsibilities you have to bear, she can easily read if you're overwhelmed or stressed and tries to comfort you to the best of her ability. Even the smallest smile from you makes her feel slightly better.

𐙚 You would catch feelings first, but then again we could argue Mei caught feelings at the beginning? Regardless, her sweet nature is too hard to resist, so if you don't love her; get mental help.

𐙚 Mei's not as clueless as her best friend though. I think she'll catch on to your feelings depending on how you act, and she's honored a literal GODDESS is in love with her, but also slightly worried it could cause problems for you in the long run. She has to go to Wukong of all people for advice before she acts on her feelings :(

𐙚 Most likely, I think, it just sorta happens you two begin acting like a couple. Even your fellow gods aren't necessarily surprised when they happen to come across you and Mei on a date-not-really date. You're too obvious gushing about the dragon girl whenever you're in the celestial realm.

𐙚 Mei says ‘I love you’ first, but it's so casual it's almost as if she's said it to you before?? And you have to sit down to explain to her that this means you both would be dating officially, and Mei's confused because?? You mean to say you two WEREN'T DATING BEFORE?!?

𐙚 At least in this AU her family don't seem to mind. You're a goddess, and at least not related to a certain dragon killing prince, right? Right!?

I saw how some people use historical figures from Chinese mythology, folklore and religion for NSFW, literally, turning them into their own OC's, and I was wondering, what do you think of that? Because it seems like they just took them, and didn't do more research asking the question of "is that right?"

As per your second question for me I will leave that unaddressed and instead invite you to discuss those matters properly in private, especially if this answer is dissatisfying.

I personally do not care much if NSFW or suggestive content of such deities exist (except for the child Nezha, leave his child form out of this.) or that it’s being produced in the first place. The numerous Chinese social media sites like LOFTER, Douban (豆瓣) and Xiaohongshu (小红书) feature fan art of Daoist deities like Nezha and Er’lang in these kinds of situations. Fan fiction of these deities are similarly of the same attitude. It has nothing to do with if proper research has been conducted, especially in the case of Er’lang Shen who cannot act on romantic feelings even if he wanted to.

It feels to me that there’s an exception regarding Chinese deities and folk heroes when deities of other religions have been sexualized. This screams of not only hypocrisy but of ignorance in being offended on behalf of the Chinese. In the few months I was active in the LMK fandom I’ve come to realize a majority of the other Chinese in the fandom are either adopted or second generation immigrants with no real cultural background; and as a consequence have severely inaccurate biases on matters like this because they aren’t aware of how insignificant this is.

I’m admittedly not active within the LMK fandom anymore and as such I don’t know what’s happening there unless someone is compelled to talk about what is going on. But it feels to me that as per usual people are holding Journey to the West as the be all end all on numerous fronts when the books really cannot and should not be heralded as such. Moreover, it’s strange that the fandom is completely okay with sexualizing Sun Wukong, the Six Eared Macaque, and the Golden Winged Peng while any other character is unacceptable.

I assure you that numerous derivative works feature Chinese deities in relationships and sexual contexts, even Tang Sanzang is featured in movies or television shows with a romantic partner despite relationships of that nature betray his Buddhist faith.

I’ve been considering making a post about the cultural dissonance that’s happening here and various attitudes or opinions other people have because they lack the cultural context to realize how insignificant and misinformed a lot of this “discourse” actually is.

What is it about Chinese mythology that sets it apart from Nordic or Greco-Roman mythology in these ways? Why is it perfectly acceptable to sexualize Loki or Achilles, but not someone like Muzha (who was a very real person that became deified, in the same fashion as Guan Yu, as who he was studying under was seen as an incarnation of Guanyin)?

I don’t think this type of thinking will ever make sense to me as a true testament to how different the fandom (especially on Twitter) and myself feel about this matter.

I’ve always been wondering, what’s the story of your own dragon girl oc? There are multiple versions of her being the lotus sutra, the scroll, etc…and i’ve been curious to know which one you decided to go for! Unless you decided to make your own, which i’d be interested to know about :D!

Well, it’s more lean on the “pearl holding dragon girl” but with Ao Guang sent Longnu to deliver a pearl to Guanyin with the intention of her staying safe with her new master after the Nezha kill Ao Bing incident (he doesn’t know that Nezha would become god and ended up seeing her anyway)

Apparently, LMK kinda affect my thought about whether to change her setting actually, after season 4 especially. I want to have my story stay in a consistent path but the other possibilities got me distracted because they also work well. It’s not just the story but also Longnu’s character. I keep the setting from above but how the situation becomes and continues is hard to decide, it kinda goes like this

Thought I'd give you an update on the tomadachi life esau because it's been a trip so far. Azure had deemed Ao Lie his best friend, Wukong has yet to try and become friends with anyone but master (my oc there lol), Mac on the other hand has tried to confess to her everyday this week, Nezha tried to intervene today but my oc finally accepted macs confession. Mk and Ao Lie have just been vibing as all of this has happened and I just added mink to the batch. I've made multiple "masters" so that there's female variety but so far on the female popularity listing they've been stuck at zero while the og master my oc is at 120 point

Most of these sound canon to some degree ngl- hnhnfhnhfn

Also, just the mental image of Macaque trying to desperately get with Master feels absolutely canon for the Masters he's got actual interest in hnfgfhnhnfhn :'D

YING JIAO YUE… 🌑

(Competition by: @lmk-oc-competition )

I’ll write down Jiao Yue’s background and abilities! (Warning: May contain spoilers!)

Background:

Jiao Yue is a half-human and half-senri. A senri is a chinese mythological leaopard cat spirit who’s capable of turning to a human and consuming human souls.

Her father is pure human and her mother is half-senri (wherein Jiao Yue’s grandmother is a full senri).

Abilities:

Here’s all of her abilities!…

Glamour- She uses her energy to hide her cat ears and two cat tails to blend in with the public crowd.

Advanced Hearing and Sharp Eyesight- Her cat ears enables her to listen to her surroundings that’s within 8 meters in diameter. She also has advanced eyesight, making her see in the dark like a nocturnal and can see through glamour/magic similar to MK’s gold vision.

Enhanced Strength- Without her glamour, she has fangs and claws. She can break bones by biting and break through the door by her claws. But her most strongest part would be her legs. Her muscular strength is at its most when she kicks, and she could practically knock down a whole building by kicking. She can also jump as high as 20-40ft tall.

Speed and Flexibility- She’s 4x faster than her average speed, making her faster than Macaque, but not faster than Nezha. She can also go through very narrow paths and can pass through obstacles in ease (like lazers or sharp pointy things at walls).

Fast Regeneration- She can take damage specially from far-range attacks. Though she can heal herself as fast as 2-3 seconds but has limited use. For instance, in a fight, she can heal her injuries 2 times only and any more than that will require her to rest for hours/days depending on the wound.

The following abilities are spoilers to my current comic!

Dark Energy/Spirit Manipulation- Similar to Lady Bone Demon, Jiao Yue also has her own ability to manipulate the souls she took. The difference may only be that LBD has a light blue hue while Jiao Yue’s purple.

Shapeshifting- Just like Macaque’s & MK’s Kaiju form and Mei’s Dragon form, Jiao Yue has her cat beast form which will be revealed in season 3. (I will make a reference sheet for this soon!)

Illusion- In close-range attacks, she can lock her opponents in an illusion. Imagine Yin & Jin’s calabash and Macaque’s shadow abilities, she can trick people into making them believe in her illusions. Also, one of her good ol’ tricks that her ancestors use is to seduce their prey like Spider Queen & Scorpion Demon.

Puppetry- At season 3, Jiao Yue gets possessed by Lady Bone Demon. She gains the ability to use the souls she’s taken to her own puppets. But she can’t possess other people’s body like Lady Bone Demon, she could still control her puppets just like Macaque’s shadow clones, Lady Bone Demon’s bone ghosts and the scrolls’s ink creations.

Immortality- Yes, she’s immortal. Well, not 5x immortal like Sun Wukong.. but she’s still immortal. She’s half-human so she can still take damage and get severely injured.

Yuèliàng:

Yuèliàng was created for the purpose to accompany Chang'e, as while she does have her robo bunnies it's lonely without anyone to talk to in person, so Chang'e made a more humanoid robot... But of course still bunny-themed it. Can't leave the bunnies out.

Yuèliàng goes by mirror pronouns. Yuèliàng is a friendly, optimistic, and playful robot, who's main purpose is to just entertain and socialize. Yuèliàng sometimes appears in Chang'e's cooking show to help keep the energy up. They would be great with children, despite the fact there's not really any children on the moon..

Huilian:

Huilian is generally cool, calm, and collected. Although she may seem like a regular fairy from Heaven, she has had hundreds of years of cultivating and training and is perfectly capable of defending herself and others if the need arises.

Originally a little girl who drowned in the eastern sea, she was reincarnated into a flower nymph and was found by Heaven. Fearing what would happen if she were to be left alone, the Jade Emperor forced Nezha to take her in as his disciple, much to his chagrin.

After Xiaotian/MK was done fighting the Demon Bull King, Heaven sent Huilian down to investigate. After finding out that a mortal now possessed Sun Wukong’s powers, she immediately reported back to the celestial court. They did not take it well and ordered Huilian keep an eye on the mortal, acting as Heaven’s eyes and ears on the situation.

This is my little LMK AU sideblog, which started off as a bunch of disjointed background notes for my fanfics, but developed into its own gigantic thing over time.

I've said elsewhere that, despite LMK (and many other JTTW adjacent works) lifting certain tidbits wholesale from FSYY——like Nezha's backstory or the Golden Dragon Shears, neither the show nor the fanworks really go into the implications of a FSYY/JTTW combined universe.

(For one, Zhao Gongming's three sisters, the Sanxiao, showing up to kick Jin and Yin's butts for stealing and breaking their treasure would be very satisfying, and also hella badass.)

So here it is: Journey of the Gods, aka "LMK, but FSYY is also canon and an extremely influential historical event".

Inspired by @digitaldoeslmk 's By the Book AU.

What even is FSYY?

"Ancient China's bloodiest bureaucracy recruitment program, kickstarted by a king who simped too hard for the creator goddess of humanity and the fox girl she sent to end his dynasty."

"I'll write my own God-Demon novel, with blackjacks and fox hookers and no Buddhist allegories!" ——Xu Zhonglin/Lu Xixing/Li Yunxiang

Okay, jokes aside: Investiture of the Gods(Fengshen Yanyi) is the other big "God-Demon Novel" of the Ming dynasty, written after JTTW. It's about the toppling of the Shang dynasty and its tyrannical King Zhou by King Wu of Zhou——but with more Daoism, immortals and demons helping out both sides, and ten billion magical formations and treasures.

At the end of the story, almost everyone who died in battle were deified and became the 365 gods of the Celestial Bureaucracy, thus "Investiture of the Gods".

Here is a link to the only full English translation of FSYY, by Gui Zhizhong.

Here is my overview of FSYY's grand overarching conflict, a.k.a. "Why are all the Daoist immortals fighting?"

Compared to JTTW, it's a lot more formulaic and suffers from a massive character count inflation problem, but also extremely influential in Chinese folk religion, to the point of some modern temples, like Qingyang Palace, basically worshiping characters from the novel! Like, the western equivalent would be a church worshiping Dante and Beatrice from the Divine Comedy.

(Similarly, it is to orthodox Daoism what the Divine Comedy is to medieval Christian theology, and should not be treated as actual religious scriptures.)

Okay, FSYY happened in the LMK universe. So What?

Well, first, it will really do wonders to fill up that eerily empty Celestial Realm we see in the Spider Queen special, and the Celestial Bureaucracy will no longer consist of a grand total of five people.

Secondly, it can solve some major show-not-tell problems and actually give legitimacy to the grievances of the LMK Brotherhood + Havoc in Heaven, as well as fleshing out the Celestial Realm.

Third, so many cool magical treasures.

Fourth, LBD gets an origin story, with a twist.

Fifth, I delight in quality angst and horror, and FSYY had some seriously messed-up stuff and implications.

Sixth, Celestial Bureaucracy office politics.

Seventh, Nezha kicking asses and winning fights like he should.

Eighth, crazy Xianxia shit, as you’d expect from the great-granddaddy of modern Xianxia genre.

Ninth, infodumps about Chinese mythos and history trivias.

Tenth, Underworld lore.

...As you can probably tell, this is mostly just me nerding out and writing walls of texts. I'm not a very good artist and can't do Lego style, but will probably doodle some symbol/character designs for funsies.

I also derive most of my enjoyment from writing fix-its and worldbuilding, not shipping characters. Like, I love exploring individual characters through relationships, but just ain't a fan of romance.

There will be a lot of OCs, but unless otherwise specified, all of them will be based on actual characters from FSYY and JTTW, with a few folk gods sprinkled in for funsies.
