favorite thing about them: how can i pick just one thing. i love how down bad she is for wake, i love her obsession with landmine people, i love how human she still seems after 10,000 years trapped in the back of a brain but also the glimpses of how old and tired she is.

least favorite thing about them: gotta be the fact that she was a cop pre-res. like story-wise i think it's very necessary to make the implicit connection between pre-res european settler-colonialist violence and john's imperial military tangible, but yuck! pfaugh!

favorite line: "Here's to Camilla Hect, yet another of devotion's casualties...No, I don't blame you, man...He was always looking for things to throw himself on." just the way this line demonstrates her grief for g1deon and simultaneously her grief for camilla, who she's yet to lose but knows she will. pyrrha who's always left behind.

brOTP: pyrrha and alecto 🥺 her line where she's like my necromancer and i always liked you and hey, what's like except a love that hasn't been invited indoors? is also one of her top lines to me.

OTP: pyrrha/g1d/wake as mentioned. her immense grief for both of them throughout ntn literally makes me sick.

nOTP: pyrrha/john. absolutely not. you people make me so angry. he's literally sexualizing her after he created the impetus for her death augh the misogyny of it all.

random headcanon: because john mentions p— is from the same hometown as him and g—, i imagine that she grew up poor the same way that they both did, and maybe that's part of the reason that she dropped out. i also imagine she was older than most of the others, maybe in her early 50s or late 40s at the end of the world.

unpopular opinion: honestly i think that some people paint pyrrha as too much of a good person. like we see in ntn that she isn't all that invested in blood of eden and would rather run away to a little moon than work to right the wrongs that she's partially responsible for; i think she's allied with blood of eden out of love for wake and out of convenience, but when the going gets tough, i can't tell what she'll do.

Hello AJ, it's been a while since I've dared to write you.

I just wanted to congratulate you on the completing of your geek!baby story, which was, as the other ones you've written, delightful. I'm one of those people who firmly believes Sara and Grissom never actively wanted/tried to have a baby, but damn the gsr kid fics are *cute*.

Also I'm kinda glad the pregnancy was confirmed a single baby - nothing against twins, but to me it often feels like a cop-out when the author can't decide on boy or girl. Again, nothing against it, I get why people like it (what's better than a kid from your otp? Two kids of course)

Anyways sorry I'm rambling, here goes a random super silly question I thought of last night (at like, 3am) and wouldn't leave me alone as this things often do, just to have a bit of fun:

i'm also glad to know you're a fan of the singleton pregnancy decision. for as much as i teased the possibility for twins (both in the fic and without it), i've known i was going to take things in this direction since before the first word of the series was written. i have such a clear notion of who grissom and sara's kid is, and i'm excited, in future installments of this 'verse, to unveil more about them!

regarding your question:

i had never given that particular hypothetical any thought before, and i don't know that i'm entirely satisfied with my own answers yet, but here's what i'm thinking as of now:

grissom is a giant pacific octopus: highly intelligent to the extent that he can use tools, solve puzzles, and even open childproof containers with his multiple limbs. infinitely curious about his surroundings and prone to experimentation. at times, precocious/cheeky. possessed of a unique style of cognition and perspective on the world. however, also frequently misunderstood and conceptualized as being "too other." considered "alien" from the human perspective and not altogether cuddly, particularly compared to other (vertebrate) animals. known for being a largely solitary creature, except for in matters of love. (fun fact: male octopuses sometimes travel great distances to find their female match.)

meanwhile, catherine is an african lioness: the feline powerhouse who keeps the pride alive and thriving, putting in the work to hunt and fend off threats (oftentimes running circles around the males in proximity to her). known for being fiercely protective of her young and aggressively defending her territory and what's hers. a highly intelligent social creature who understands nuanced dynamics between members of her pride. possessed of a hierarchal way of thinking. though open to male attention, sometimes known to drive off "deadbeat" or otherwise unacceptable options and fend for herself in their absence. capable of leadership; queen of the jungle.

warrick is a wild yak: adapted to live on unstable terrain, nothing can shake him. he's strong and solid as a rock. of all ungulates, among the most intelligent and good-natured, capable of problem solving and adapting to ever changing conditions. brought up in a matriarchal social structure with grandma in charge. incredibly loyal to the herd, though not above some occasional macho headbutting with other males he may encounter. while generally chill in temperament, relentless when protecting himself and those he cares about (and a goddamn problem for any creature foolish enough to antagonize him). for as docile as he is, he is also one of nature's toughest animals. infinitely useful. a presence in any space he enters. big-hearted, both physically—yaks need to pump more red blood cells than most animals because they live at high altitudes with low oxygen—and also in his character. known for prioritizing community.

nick is a german shepherd: specifically, a police dog (like sam). carefree as a puppy, later on traumatized in the line of his k-9 duties. disposed toward obedience and protectiveness. sometimes too well-trained and quick to heel for his own good. happiest just lovin' on people but also anxious when he doesn't have some directive to follow or task to complete. naturally goodhearted but in his later years sometimes prone to snap due to his experiences on the force. intelligent, inquisitive, eager to investigate. sometimes a little bit goofy. always sticking his nose in things. has a hard time with the command "drop it!" forms deep bonds with his people and is fiercely loyal to them. at his heart, a good boy who just wants to do right by everyone around him.

sara is a rehabilitated formerly feral cat: started out life in a house with the expectation she'd be taken care of but as a kitten was mistreated and abused until she became incredibly mistrustful of humans. eventually, ended up on the streets. had to fend for herself, scrounging to get by. survived thanks to her own cleverness and resourcefulness. then, much later on, after too long spent alone, was taken in again. became, for the first time in years, once more a housecat. at first, was wary of her would-be rescuers. skittish. spent most of her time hiding under furniture with her ears back and claws out, ready to swat anyone who dared lean in too close. bonded to only one quiet and patient person in the otherwise busy house. in time, with his coaxing, emboldened to believe again in the goodness of other people. against all odds, developed into an affectionate and participating member of the household, albeit in a still semi-aloof feline way. smart, curious, a wonderful mix of socially awkward and socially graceful, deeply bonded to her people and open with them, though still independent. above everything: you can always tell how grateful she is to finally be in a house where she's loved.

finally, greg, i am happy to report, is a ferret: pure mustelid energy. a weird, screwy noodle who is constantly investigating the world and engaging in shenanigans. notoriously goofy. playful by nature. curious to a fault and sometimes somewhat naughty when bored—inventing activities™ for himself—but also exceptionally clever and a surprisingly hard worker (when he focuses his energies and intelligence on the task). oftentimes underestimated due to his small stature but much-beloved by those who take the time to get to know him. loyal following of enthusiasts.

favourite thing about them: she exists !!!!!!!!!!!! and she's so cool . she's like, devastatingly cool . both in her concept and just .. herself .... move over chad narukami losers !!!!!!!!!! especially in her exclusive links, her kindness and kick-ass-ness and depth comes out in full force and i love her so much for it. i know i'm a ryominahead, but i miss her everyday !!!!!!!!

least favourite thing about them: not her fault AT ALL . but aside from how underrepresented she is, i am still a firm believer that she should've received her own ryoji ... it's so sad, because i absolutely adore how they open up to each other, but i've talked to others before about how ryoji in her story as seemingly HER mirror just feels wrong, like he's transplanted from another place (which he literally is .. he's created in minato's image). i would've loved to see how her ryoji could've been more specifically shaped and changed by her quirks + her approach to her trauma

favourite line: "but, when i first saw him... he didn't feel at all like a stranger to me." "i can't explain it well, but it was almost like nostalgia.... or some kind of closeness." "i'm him, and he's me...?" it's criminal that q2 left it at this.

random headcanon: okay lets be real . am i stupid ? where does her mp3 player attach ? it just kind of hangs out in midair while minato obviously hangs it on a lanyard . i like to think she's a bit more crafty with it !!! clipping it onto the zipper of her uniform or her scarf or keeping it on a wristband etc ^_^

unpopular opinion: gwa ........... i should just own this i think, even if people disagree !! in my opinion ... femc is supplementary content. and that means you should not be playing her route as your first experience in persona 3. just like how i believe you shouldn't read the manga or watch the movies before playing the game. you need to play the male route first. the way she presents the game's themes through her character and modified story is designed to be in direct opposition and contract with minato's route, and enhances both routes to that effect and can totally change your experience when viewing your previous playthrough of the male route and your current route as her through the lens she teaches the player. in a sad sort of way, i am kind of happy reload hasn't enforced this idea that femc is just one of two ways to experience p3 . this isn't a character select .. she's more like a perfect ng+ to me .

My Top Reads of 2022

Not totally back yet for another day, so I'm posting about reading rather than BTS. lol feel free to skip over it if you'd rather! I just wanted to share some of my favorite reads of 2022. I read 159 books this year (24 of them during my tumblr break the last few weeks!), here are just a few that I loved! If you want more opinions over these or perhaps over books I didn't love as much, I'd be happy to talk more about them!

In no particular order:

He Who Fights with Monsters by Shirtaloon (5 stars):

Content warnings for violence, mentions of cannibalism and death

A LitRPG style fantasy novel that is both high stakes but Still light hearted at the same time. I loved seeing the mayhem happen and the characters grow. It left me so excited to see how the over arching story continued to evolve. Plus I loved the friend groups dynamics here too! It's a little unpolished and times, can be a little slow, told through a flashback. But I loved Jason for the most part and loved hearing his adventures. Super funny and enjoyable.

The Deepest of Secrets by Kelley Armstrong (5 stars)

Content warnings for murder, gun violence, animal attack and mentioned animal death, sexually explicit scenes

Book 7 and the final installment of the Rockton series, but with the promise of a spin off that makes my heart soar. I love this series an unhealthy amount. Amazing characters, amazing writing, fast paced, engaging, one of my all time favorite OTPs. Thriller novels that aren't terrifying but kept the suspense flowing the whole time too. Can't wait to see where Casey and Eric go next. Book 1 in the series is called City of the Lost.

One for All by Lillie Lainoff (4 stars)

Content warnings for ableism, SA, bullying, death of a parent, grief

I was so excited for this one! It was a little predictable and I honestly think it mightve been better If the romance was left behind all together. But the romance portion still wasn't bad. It was excellent for a debut novel. The representation for POTS here was amazing. I loved the strength in the MC, the friendships were all top tier and so sweet. I absolutely loved it! Especially well done for a debut novel too!

The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater (3 - 5 stars through the books)

Had a billion friends begging me to read this one and I finally did! The author is the definition of why authors don't always belong in fandom spaces and is a bit of a mess, but I did enjoy these books! The first one started off super slow and was clearly a set up novel, but they just got better and better as they went. I wasn't a huge fan of her writing in other books, but it worked super well for this series. Massively character driven series and so much fun. The magic system was amazing. The friendship between Blue and the boys was top tier. I cried and I laughed and I had a blast. Not a huge fan of the ending, which felt like a bit of a cop out to me, but it didn't detract from my enjoyment enough to not still give it 5 stars at the end. Lol

Spy x Family Manga (4 - 5 stars)

Content warnings for violence, gun violence

This one was recommended by my sister snd I fell in love so fast. Lol I also then watched the anime after. Very slice of life cuteness, mixed with spy and assassin shenanigans. Chaos incarnate and adorable. The trails of parenthood were hysterical, especially as a parent myself too. Lol although I'm not mixing parenthood with Spy work 😂

Icebreaker by A.L. Graziadei (4 stars)

Content warnings for alcohol, blood, depression, suicidal ideation, homophobia, drugs, racism, sport related violence, sexually explicit scenes

Sports Hockey Romance mlm and so cute and so good! What a great representation for living with bad depression too. MC going through so much, but his relationship with his sisters is amazing, his budding relationship on his team is so good. Rivals to Lovers trope that's perfection too! I loved it so much! Fast and easy and fun to read and enjoyable every second!

She Who Became the Sun by Shelley Parker Chan (4.5 stars)

Content warnings for Ableism, Amputation, Castration, Death, Dysphoria, Homophobia, Misgendering, Murder (child) , Sexually Explicit scenes, starvation, torture (non-graphic), violence

This was INTENSE. But so freaking good. Historical meets fantasy. Mulan vibes, but way more grown up and based in more history. And it's queer. Fun, thought provoking, intense, and so well written too.

The Lost Metal by Brandon Sanderson (5 stars)

Content warnings for death and violence

This is the 7th book in the series and every book in it is AMAZING. Released this year and wow what an epic conclusion. I laughed and I sobbed and I loved every second. Binged it in a day. These covers are so ugly lol but the stories are so good. So thought provoking. Fast paced but every freaking word counts. Engrossing and amazing story telling. The intricate plot contentions through the entire cosmere had me feeling a conspiracy theorist in the best way

Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao (5 stars)

Content warnings for Misogyny & femicide, Rape mentioned, Physical & emotional abuse, Suicidal ideation, Alcoholism, Blood & gore depiction, Murder, Torture

This was so good!! So good! It could have used some more flushing out on the world building, magic system and character arcs, but overall I loved every second of it. It's giving me the morally Grey heroine and cast of characters I've always wanted. I loved that it set up with a fairly classic love triangle, but only to give us a bisexual polyship triangle! Badassery the whole way through too! Had me pretty consistently on the edge of my seat.

A: How long did it take for them to get together?

Officially? They don't get together until two or so months post-escape, because neither of them is concerned with the status of their love life while they're trapped in the town. In practise, though, they become each other's comfort person pretty fast... they don't talk about what any of it means, but Diane is always there to hold Jade after a vision or a nightmare, and Jade is always quietly keeping her company because he knows she doesn't know how to ask for help or admit that she's struggling. Once they're out, they each have their own lives to get back to, and that makes them drift a little apart—should they be trying to move on from what happened? Maybe. But they miss each other like crazy so it's only a matter of time before they're sleeping in each other's arms again.

E: What AU would you want this couple involved in?

OK this is my moment — Fantasy au. The town is an enchanted kingdom under a mysterious curse and it's been like that for a long time. Jade would be an alchemist obsessed with finding a way to lift the curse when everyone else has given up (he used to be a wealthy man, has since spent most of his fortune in his experiments) and Diane would be a badass knight in the city guard (the guards in the day shift are cop-coded jerks, while the ones in the night shift fight the nightmare creatures and are shrouded in mystery). They meet when Jade gets himself in trouble while investigating and can't get back home in time: Diane saves him and escorts him back to his place, where he shows her his experiments. She dismisses him at first but then she grows intrigued — big mistake. She will never know peace again.

From that moment on, Jade keeps reaching out to her to get special access to off-limits areas, books and documents. She keeps helping him because she knows things are getting worse and they need a solution and also because he's cute and she wants to keep seeing him. Visual vibes: Netflix's Castlevania or OUAT.

K: Who's faster to get jealous?

Jade absolutely. I don't think either of them are the jealous type but Jade would get super offended if he feels like Diane is paying him less attention than usual. He thinks he's sooo above it but one singular day where Diane is too busy to hang out and he'd already be thinking "where are my kisses from Girlfriend who I love so much???". Man's clingy but he'll deal. He'll hug her extra tight that night.

L: When did they first start having feelings for each other?

Jade got the biggest crush on Diane years ago when they first met (she's a firefighter, and she rescued him from a fire at a fancy new year's party in NYC), which he tries to play off as nothing more than an annoying inconvenience*. Diane barely remembers him, but it doesn't take her long to see there's something warm and special about him while he's keeping her company at the clinic. She can listen to him talk for hours and it puts a smile in her face. Catguy venting ASMR? Apparently. Either way, that's how they both know that she's about to fall hard.

2. Who was your first muse?

So my first muse on Tumblr would be a Professor Rowan blog that I ran. I really loved the "stern outside but soft interior" vibes I got from him, and one of my friends at the time really didn't like him so I felt like I needed to stand up for the Sinnoh Professor! The blog would later go on to also have Turtwig, Piplup, and Chimchar as side muses, too. I've been RPing before the Tumblr times, too, but I can't even remember who all I played before then.

6. OTP for your muse?

You know, I don't spend all that much time thinking on who would be a good match (or bad match, for that matter). The manga explicitly shows us Winona's relationship with Wallace, and that has been pretty darn cute, but also the absolute severe lack of content for Winona outside of the manga means it's kind of hard to visualize how she'd be around others in a romantic setting. So while I can't give you specific names (I know, cop-out answer), what I can do is give you some archetypal features that she would be all in for: Deeply passionate individuals, and people who aren't afraid to take risks. An OTP for Winona would be a couple who's constantly chasing adventure and going through Hell and back together, coming out stronger for it.

7. NOTP for your muse?

Again, I don't really have specifics here. There's the obvious no to minors. I really hope that doesn't need much explaining. But since that's not really all that satisfying an answer in the spirit of the question, let me go on to say I think she'd struggle with people who are just unbridled chaos, or people who are overly apathetic. That just seems frustrating and deeply unsatisfying to her.

8. What are some similarities between you and your muse/muses?

I think both of us are people who would grow restless quickly if we sit around idly for too long, or experience a feeling of stagnation in life. Not that I'm an adrenaline junkie or anything, but I think both of us are open to new experiences and would go out of our way to seek those out.

Ok I binge watched Castle (never watched when it aired) and I have QUESTIONS! And yes, OTP Caskett for life right here no ifs, ands, or buts.

Already rewatching right now, but here's what I don't get:

- the fuck was that last season? I binge watched I cannot imagine what it would've been like to wait week after week while that mess unfolded.

- season 8 again: did Castle truly believe she was leaving him for real? And she let him? I just really was confused and thought he knew there was something up but that he played along. Completely nonsensical

- whole disappearing for two months was so fucked I can't even express myself. And the explanation makes no sense. Period.

- frankly, I love this show except for the parts I don't. But the suspension of disbelief necessary in it just made no sense. I am never one to jump out of a story, I'm usually happy to go with the flow. but are you seriously telling me that there are no defense lawyers out there who throw the cases out because Castle is in on interrogations and is at crime scenes? But maybe that's me. That's not the biggest one. The biggest has to be the extent to which they keep allowing these cops to investigate their own cases or cases where there's a clear involvement or what can be qualified as conflict of interest. Not even talking about the whole Beckett's mom thing. That at least was mostly rogue. Just talking about (for example) Castle remaining on the case when his rich buddy's wife was killed. Or when Espo is allowed within arms length of that case with his thief of an ex. Like, come on! Is there no internal affairs in this universe? (Other than the one internal affairs cop that was the villain, of course.)

- Castle's mom was too good for that show! No I'm kidding. I just loved her.

- Alexis devolving into a normal young adult was a bit jarring after she had been such a wise and unusual teen whom her dad had to bribe to be bad. I guess as he dad grew up she allowed herself to be a child?

- OK back to Caskett. What stopped them being together at the beginning? Nah this one is not serious. But the tension sure was nice yet excruciating. I would've loved them to explore what happens when he's super famous and she's super famous by proxy. Just wouldn't have objected to seeing their lives as a couple, solving crimes by day, being glamorous by night. I hate that his fame seems to become a non-issue later. Why couldn't the Nikki Heat movie be a hit if that actress was supposedly a hit? And who played Rook exactly? We see everyone else but him.

- oh another illogical thing. I get Castle signing away his life in the second episode. But it just never made sense that Beckett has him as partner but essentially has no back-up with him. (Who backed her up before he showed up btw? Espo and Ryan have each other. Aren't detectives supposed to have a partner?) He is unarmed all the time and is just a liability. Bringing me to how they never have him being shot which is annoying to my hurt trope loving self.

- that first/fake kiss? ... ya ... got nothing there

- fuck Josh.

- fuck Demming too, though I'd give anything to see/hear about how he takes the news of C and B being together

- why was she so PDA heavy at the precinct when she was with Demming and Josh, only to have that nowhere to be seen with Castle? (After they are out)

- fuck Gina too, kinda. I have less hate on Castle's exes or lovers only because we actually get a sense of who they are and we see they insignificant and a way for him to pass time while waiting for Kate to make up her mind. But Beckett's lovers are just there to be hated by Castle. There is an inconsistency in how much the audience gets to know them. Josh is a man doctor with a bike. That's all we know. Like she ordered him on cliche dot com. So ya, I get the show is Castle's, but then don't show the fight room scenes with Beckett but then have her get together and dump Josh both offscreen. He was just there to annoy Castle and push him that one time!

- for a writer he just couldnt use his damn words could he? Why didn't he just tell her he told her he loved her instead of acting like toddler about it?

My NOTP for them: Nick Lightbearer.

Seems obvious on the surface, but not likely in practice. Nick is famous in Wellington Wells in the same sort of way Sally is, but Sally only dates guys who can do something for her. He can't really do anything helpful to advance her career or even get her in a better position socially than she already is. My assumption is that before she works for Stewart Adams, she is one of Davy Hackney's models (hence all her "outrageous" looks) and she supplies her co-workers with her own homebrewed drugs as a sideline. Socially, being one of Nick's groupies (or even one his wives) isn't much better than just being one of Hackney's models and is probably a much larger hassle so it's a moot point as far as Sally's concerned. Sally seems to be the only person Dr. Faraday likes in any capacity. She speaks respectfully to Sally (compared to show she speaks to Arthur, Roger, and James) and doesn't seem to mind that Sally has come asking for something, even though Dr. Faraday faked her own death to avoid being asked for things. I rather think it would have been good for both of them to be better friends. My OTP for them: Herself.

Girl needs to be alone, be self-sufficient, and work! on! herself! My second choice pairing for them: gonna cop out and say herself again.

Sally's whole way of being is this idea that she can't do anything without the support of a man in some way. And yet there are so many examples of women in Wellington Wells who do exactly that. I've gotten into arguments before about how much the time period and misogyny influences the story, but We Happy Few is an alternate timeline in which everything (including qualified workers in nearly every sector) is at a shortage. There are opportunities for women to strike out on their own and to be self-sufficient. Sally just never sees them. Part of that is how she was raised; part of it is that - of the three main protagonists - she is the most resistant to self-reflection.

While I don't wish the story was different - because I think this facet of her character is what makes her interesting in this context - if she were a real person, I would wish for her to have been put in a situation where she was forced to be alone - genuinely alone - for a while and see that she could have been all along. As is, Gwen (though not a man) acts as the same sort of motivation and I think in the long run, Sally will still have problems with being on her own, even though we know she's capable. My fluffy pairing for them: Gemma Olsen.

Maybe not fluffy per se, but Gemma would have been an excellent influence on Sally. Gemma is clever, self-assured, plucky! And she lives and works alone! Gemma also benefits from not having this idea that she's not like other girls. Gemma is like other girls. She likes pink and wearing cute outfits and she gets along well with other women. She even gets along well enough with Sally to glean information from her that Sally doesn't even soliloquize to herself about. If Sally had someone like Gemma to look up to (Gemma is older than her, 41, so that's a point towards maybe the time period not mattering as much as it would in the real world), Sally could have seen that you could reconcile femininity and everything about it that Sally thinks of as a burden. Gemma doesn't see her femininity that way; to her, it's another tool in her toolbox.

Bonus fluff: William Godwin.

I think when he comes to her for his consultation (he would be #9), Sally elects to put him on Blackberry not because she feels compelled to as in most other cases, but because his determination and certainty that Wellington Wells can course correct if only they can be made to see what they're doing to themselves endears him to her. It's a gesture of hope on her part. Sally mentions many different but disparate people who could help her in her soliloquy lines, so it stands to reason that she is aware of various resistance movements or people who are at least open to the idea (but maybe not with a baby involved). I think she probably does try to help in that way, which is why she has so many subversives on her Blackberry list. My angsty pairing for them: Arthur.

Look, I know everyone loves the idea of these two ending up together, but they're a shitshow waiting to happen. They're both in love with the idea of each other and while they've both realized that folly in an academic sense, if they were to make a of go of it, I don't think they'd actually be able to think rationally about it in real time. They would constantly be disappointing each other and pissing each other off.

And there's just a matter of trust on both halves of the equation. Is Arthur ever going to be certain Sally's not flirting with someone better? Is Sally ever going to feel secure that Arthur won't cut and run when things get complicated?

On the other hand, old timey people put up with a lot more shit in a relationship than I would so ???

I guess I'll leave the avenue of grim hope open for you diehards. My favorite poly ship for them: I might have, as a joke, once goaded @harrturr to draw Sally, Dr. Faraday, and Victoria Byng as a ship. And then proposed that what was needed beyond that was Gemma trying to figure out what the three of them were up to. Lesbian sci-fi political thriller! Cool new genre! My weirdest pairing for them: Harry Haworth.

If Harry hadn't been the Joy-addled mess that he was when Sally took that tour, she likely would have set her sights on him and not Anton. And Harry probably would've been better for her, not unlike Stewart Adams but without the significant drawback of being married. He was already in the habit of hiring women for scientific work so we can make a relatively safe assumption that he's not a misogynist. And Sally, in her wheedling way that Anton apparently couldn't or chose not to attempt, might have been able to discourage Harry from his experiments with that phrenological device of his.

Unpopular Book Tag

1. A Popular Book or series that you didn't like.

The Atlas Series

Garbage!! It was garbage! It should be illegal for teenagers to recommend books! If you read this and didn't immediately identify that it was (bad) X-Men fan fiction, then you didn't read it.

2. A Popular Book or series that everyone else seems to hate but you love.

Red Queen Series

This series came at the tail end of the "dystopian girl fighting the ruling class" genre, right before it fell out of fashion. And it's widely considered to be a MUCH worse version of Hunger Games/Divergent. But you know what? I fucking loved every book. I thought it was fantastic. Like Hunger Games with superheroes. It was very dark for a YA fantasy, AND it had excellent representation! It should be illegal for anyone other than teenagers to recommend books.

3. A Love Triangle where the main character ended up with the person you did NOT want them to end up with OR an OTP that you don't like.

His Dark Materials - Lyra and Will

Maybe it's a mixture between when it was written and the ages of the kids, but I don't know. The romance between the kids felt extremely forced. I thought their chemistry together worked best when they were acting as a team. I feel as if the motivation to make them in love with each other (again, as children) was an afterthought to drum up the stakes for the end of the series.

4. A popular book Genre that you hardly reach for.

YA Contemporary

You know, in the past I would have probably said Romance, but I have been reading more romance lately. But there's really nothing that will get me to read any YA at all, much less YA Contemporary. Obviously they're not written for me, but I know a lot of adults who do enjoy these kinds of books. But sometimes I just want to shake someone by the shoulders and say 'I can tell that your literary analysis skills have come solely from YA books and I'm begging you to branch out.'

5. A popular or beloved character that you do not like.

Lift - The Stormlight Archives

Oh my god does this character bother me so much. She is aggravating, unfunny, and the writing around her tends to be very poor compared to the rest of the series. I like Stormlight, but it's certainly not my favorite. I'm concerned my interest is going to wane as Lift becomes more prominent.

6. A popular author that you can't seem to get into.

Matt Haig

Matt Haig stop writing challenge. I have disliked every book he has written and I cannot for the life of me understand why people like him. I find his writing to be basic and his themes to be both heavy handed and underdeveloped. I've resolved to not read anything else from him, but damn, can someone explain why the hell they like him?

7. A popular book trope that you're tired of seeing. (examples "lost princess", corrupt ruler, love triangles, etc.)

Books where the book is present in the book

This is so specific and, I admit, irrationally bothersome to me. But I have read several books where the book you're reading is a book in the story. I find it corny and a cop out for better storytelling.

8. A popular series that you have no interest in reading.

A Song of Ice and Fire

I think last time I said Wheel of Time series, which is still the number one series I will absolutely not pick up. But this is a close second. Here's a bonus unpopular opinion. I didn't hate the ending of the show quite as much as most people did. Not because I thought it was good, but because I didn't really care all that much, and I found it to be entertaining for what it was. But with that being said, I will not ever read this series because having watched the show, it wasn't interesting enough for me to want to get the show + dozens more storylines, plot details, and world building.

9. The saying goes "The book is always better than the movie", but what movie or T.V. show adaptation do you prefer more than the book?

The Witcher Series

You want to know something funny? I have not watched the show and probably never will. But I know for a fact that it is better than the books because the books are complete incel garbage with no redeeming qualities. Boring, extremely misogynistic, slow, and basic. The show could literally only be an improvement.

OKAY so Athelstan will go first, then my traumatized star wars son Crosshair. Putting it under a cut because it got long:

Athelstan

My NOTP for them  - Hmmm, I've seen a few Ecbert/Athelstan's played straight which doesn't vibe well with me, like I can SEE where it comes from but my Ecbert interpretation is extremely unflattering and I have a hard time getting past that lol.

My BROTP for them - HELGA IS SWEETEST GIRL AND BFF, when we see them cuddle in the season 2 premier it warms my ENTIRE SOUL.

My OTP for them - Unsurprisingly, Floki/Athelstan/Ragnar, which is my most special of special pairings that I adore. Any variation on it fascinates me, I usually go for a more season one vibe in my fic but honestly I think a rivals to lovers plot (between Floki and Athelstan) would also be fantastic, especially since we know that Ragnar has utilized the MAYBE HAVE A THREESOME? to try and resolve spats between love interests before LOL. Their dynamics just blend VERY well and both Athelstan and Floki are wonderful foils that bounce very well off of Ragnar and so they work best when both are in play. Really, anything that lets the three of them be TOGETHER will be exciting for me.

My second choice pairing for them - Okay so after seeing how cutely they interacted, I have a soft spot for Athelstan/Torstein, they don't get MUCH screentime together but when they are together they're so CUTE.

My fluffy pairing for them - Every pairing is a fluffy pairing with Athelstan involved. Is this a cop out answer? Yes, absolutely, but if I am writing a pairing with this boy my instinct is to FLUFF! IT! UP!

My angsty pairing for them - Okay so when he finds out about Arne's death he said "Arne?" in the most DEVASTATED TONE and anyway, Athelstan/Arne developing a small Thing that they don't get time to pursue before Rollo fucking. Eviscerates the poor boy. That's the right angst stuff.

My favorite poly ship for them - Same as the OTP, lol, this will be a theme because my OTPs usually are polycules, it's like this in every fandom lol.

My weirdest pairing for them - Honestly, Floki/Athelstan/Ragnar is by far the weirdest ship lol, making this the third time it has appeared on this list, it is simply my Life and Love

Crosshair

My NOTP for them - I have few complete NOTPs with him, so gonna have to go with the obvious of Rampart. Haven't seen MANY fics play this as a straight up pairing, but it's one that I genuinely can't see.

My BROTP for them - I read a really good longfic that included some Howzer & Crosshair bonding and now I crave it. Howzer is interesting because he really was the 'if you're so evil eat this kitten' of post-chip Crosshair, he could have shot him, chipped Crosshair WOULD have shot him, but he didn't. I hope Crosshair actively helps to get him out of jail and they can vibe together.

My OTP for them - POLYBATCH. Listen the five of them vibe so well together and each and every dynamic within it is something fascinating to me. I want nothing more than for them to be happy, I crave and demand it. Let them be happy (and kiss)

My second choice pairing for them - osijfoidsjf I'm going to cheat because my second choice is honestly any single ship with one of the other batchers. Polyam is my preference but I will also happily read about any one dynamic within the group.

My fluffy pairing for them - Actually pulling out a subset of the OTP here, but Crosshair/Wrecker specifically is fascinating to me because in the initial four parter they really do seem to be the closest. They compete yeah, but Wrecker will intervene IMMEDIATELY to protect Crosshair (he even forgot his fear of heights for him!) and Crosshair seems very proud of Wrecker (he's going to get the gunship out of there, not Cody) and they have a cute quiet moment around the fire before things turn into a Fight and I WISH we got to hear what they were talking about.

My angsty pairing for them - EVERY pairing is an angsty pairing when you're a dramatic emo bitch like Crosshair is. Truly there is not a single pairing that can't be completely played for angst. Does the angsty Cad Bane/Crosshair smut fic I'm poking at count if they're not really together and it's just an unwise one night stand? It probably counts.

My favorite poly ship for them - same as the OTP, polyships are my bread and butter.

My weirdest pairing for them - Probably the Rex/Crosshair (platonic or not) considering their primary interaction was Rex punching him in the face for talking shit about Echo. But that also makes him one of the few people that has completely noped out of dealing with Crosshair's shit and he needs that. There's value in dating the person that won't let you do your typical nonsense!

Least Favourite Thing: the "too pretty for his own good" bit is kinda lame. its not bad and it can be funny, but its very middling

Favourite Line: "I teach my students with the expectation that one day, they will surpass me.", because again, i LOVE the themes of Cyrus's story and that line summarizes them perfectly

Inconceivable.", from her journal. its just. oh my god. its the moment you can see the the Moonshade Order is starting to lose its grip on her. she's in denial about it, but its these sentences that began the process of her saving her life. "I wish i had a lifetime to report on your shenanigans" and the moment Partitio convinces her to flee from Roque in his chapter 4 are both also very tasty and good

brOTP: Partitio is the cop-out answer to this one, but im also fascinated by what her dynamic with Ochette might be cuz like. symbolic representation of all the themes of hope that has seen humanity do terrible things but keeps on truckin' + person that is only beginning to accept that maybe life isn't such a curse after all is a very cool combination

OTP: Partitio by proxy. dont ship it, dont intend to ship it (partitio has some aro energy to me but hey thats just me), but i do not deny that it is certainly a thing

Random Headcanon: Ori hasn't had good food in years as a result of the whole "if i'm gonna die anyways, there's no point in enjoying this" mentality that was clearly trapping her in the Moonshade Order, and the first time she had a good bowl of soup was positively life-changing for her. she started trying to cook for herself shortly thereafter

Unpopular Opinion: not unpopular by any stretch of the imagination but it does run counter to one (1) person i've seen, but i think she deserves to, and can, make a full recovery. no shade on the person who wrote that super cool fic in which she was tormented by hallucinations of her brother and said in the fic description that they didnt think she'd recover, but that ain't for me

it's a very... vivid and evocative depiction of the final moments before she nearly dies, and there's a kind of beauty in that.

Favourite Thing: the Song of Hope! it was a fun detail to make the choices you made throughout the journey show up in her chapter five, and it's like. such a fun thing to incorporate into her story. i love it when characters create art (also the track itself is a banger)

Least Favourite Thing: the pitch of her voice has lost me a little as time has gone by, nothing major but it's not as charming as it used to be (this is NOT a statement about the accent thing. that bit is fun)

Favourite Line: "Dreams aren't good for nothing" was just a fun line, but "The stars... they're all gone" was delivered EXTREMELY well, so i'm giving it to the latter

brOTP: she and Throné have a very fun dynamic. not much to say on it, it's just fun

OTP: hikari? i guess? dude there's ships that i sorta accept into my headcanon of the story but dont touch and there's ships that my mind obsesses over for decades, and this is neither of those. it's a choice i selected from a drop-down menu.

Great K-dramas: Crime/Thriller

Flower of Evil: A psychological thriller centered around a jewelry maker who is running from his past, and his cop wife (power couple alert!)  who doesn’t know his original identity. The chemistry of the couple is amazing and all of the characters are nuanced and interesting. I was on the edge of my seat, AND sobbing! Also, I finally understand Lee Jun Ki stans, he was SO GOOD in this!

Extracurricular: An unusual, fast paced thriller about an introverted high school boy mixed up in a prostitution ring. His crush gets involved and well, I don’t want to say what happens but it’s a wild and crazy ride. There really is not another k-drama like it. I like to refer to it as the least k-drama-y kdrama I’ve ever seen.

Psychopath Diary: Super fun psychological thriller. Yoon Shi Yoon plays a goofy and innocent character who witnesses a murder and then gets amnesia. For kdrama reasons he’s convinced he’s the actual murderer and begins to lean into the role. The whole thing is a bunch of crazy mixups but the chemistry between the innocent guy and the killer is just...awesome! It’s funny and creepy and a great watch.

Come and Hug Me: A girl’s family is murdered by her friend’s dad leaving both traumatized by their past. It’s intense and very melodramatic. You will cry multiple times but the OTP is everything. The strength of the female lead played by my girl Jin Ki Joo is just *chef’s kiss*

Stranger: A k-drama featuring a quirky crime solving due: a prosecutor who has lost his ability to feel empathy and his (obviously gay) brilliant and quirky detective partner. This drama has NO romance and is more about political corruption and mystery.

The Smile Has Left Your Eyes: This is a seriously creepy and unusual k-drama with mystery/crime elements. I LOVED it but it’s not light and fluffy. There is some healing but mostly comfort between the two leads but the mystery elements are super interesting.

He Is Pyschometric: Sci-fi crime k-drama featuring rookie actors in their first leading roles (Park Jin-Young and Shin Ye-Eun) and they do such a great job!! A boy has the ability to read objects by touching them and connects with a cop to try and solve crimes. It's got good romance, great characters and is so fun to watch.

Terius Behind Me: A secret agent in hiding becomes a nanny to the next door neighbors. This drama really has almost no flaws. It’s got found family, characters who change and grow and it’s also hilarious because of the neighborhood community. It IS a show with mysteries and crime but it's got comedic elements.

Beyond Evil: If I'm honest it's rare for me to watch an entire k-drama that has no romance, so Beyond Evil must be good. A clean-cut type A cop finds himself in a small town trying to solve a serial killer mystery with a wild card detective. It's very intense and everyone seems morally grey so it's pretty interesting.

💚Favorite thing about them: So many things! So many thingssss! He's so adorable and badass. Special mention gotta go to his freckles. And somehow he got me to like the color green. I used to hate green with a passion, but he changed my mind.

💚brOTP: Dekusquad, or Izucrew (including Shinso). I also just love him with Kaminari and Kirishima as a trio. I feel like it's underrated. It's such a precious brOTP.

💚OTP: When I first got into BNHA, Tododeku was my first OTP. Still is one of my faves along with so many others. Bakudeku, IzuOcha, etc. Midoriya deserves affection (platonically and romantically, either/or).

💚nOTP: Midoriya x All Might, like who came up with that?

💚Random headcanon: I feel like he's actually a good artist, so at least sharpens his skills overtime. We see he does draw in his journals, but they're messy sketches because well, he's in a hurry to write down info before he forgets it. But I like the thought of him having separate sketchpads he draws in and shares it with Kaminari (who I also headcanon as an artist).

Speaking of notes, I also think he's the type to have color coded notes with sticky notes used as a bookmarks or to jot down extra info.

💚Unpopular opinion: We see him wear those red sneakers all the time, but I like them. I'd wear them. Also, him being emotional is an endearing character trait. I hate how some people in the fandom just label him as a crybaby. No, he just wears his heart on his sleeve. It can be a weakness, you know, letting your emotions get the better of you (I know too well), but it's also a strength sometimes because he still shows he's compassionate towards others.

💚Song I associate with them: 'Go Beyond' by Nemraps which I recommend if any of you into nerdcore raps! Also 'So Am I' by Ava Max and (I do like the music) 'I'll Show You' by KDA.

💚Favorite picture of them: Like others before him, I can't choose just one picture... and trust there's a lot.

❄Favorite thing about them: His design is a favorite trait of mine. I have a weakness for the half-half hair color thing and I have had my hair red and white like his once. Also, his voices. Both his VAs do an amazing job in my opinion. And his love for soba and that he reads manga.

❄Random headcanon: Maybe this is canon, I don't know, but he can sleep anywhere. I said this with Shinsou, too. I also think he like cold foods more than hot and that he has a sweet tooth. He probably didn't get to eat a lot of sweet foods when he was younger, so when the dorms were made and Satou would bake, Todoroki is one of the first to eat anything he bakes and will fight a classmate over a cookie.

🔥Unpopular opinion: He's so awkward, but it's so adorable. I don't blame him for being awkward (backstory). His little quips like napping whenever or his sense of humor is off is nice for his kind of character. I don't see him as a boring character as some folks say.

favorite thing about them

Oh My Gosh. I'm hard pressed to pick between the little detail that references her storytelling from Ogrim's thoughts and the fact that she hails from a distant land. I love both for very different reasons...I think her storytelling. It's such a beautiful aspect of her character, especially when much of Hollow Knight revolves around the different perspectives of a single story, and how the same story can have so many different narratives. Actually, although I love that she comes from beyond Hallownest for the simple fact that it directly contradicts the narrative that the citizens of Hallownest believe (and the Pale King spreads), I think that also gives a whole different dimension to her role as a storyteller. If anything, I think she has so much genre awareness and Knows that she's in a story. It's neat!

least favorite thing about them

Ugh, I'll give another cop-out answer that's the same as the one for Grimm; I really wish we got to see more of her. My real answer is that I dislike her for being one of the five great knights, but I also can't truly say that because, again, that crucial decision to make her a knight transforms her entire character. So I can't even really say I dislike that, even if on principle I dislike Hallownest on a personal level (and adore it narratively). Slight tangent, but this game is so good because you aren't meant to root for the kingdom.

I was going to answer Dryya, but I think, while Dryya and Ze’mer are both lesbians who would have an Undersanding of each other, Ze’mer is also someone who Understands the art of storytelling, and I think Hegemol does too. I think that Dryya's closeness to the White Lady is also something that creates distance between them. So, Hegemol.

It's normal that they continually argue since the dynamic of the couple is Orion begin the saint and Skye begin Skye yet I have this weird feeling that it's more a flirtings attempts gone wrong?

Skye really gives me the vibes of a childish tomboy on love.

Orion lives in a galaxy far, far away and it's difficult to understand him normally, tryng to find out if he has or not this crush could be lasting for centuries.
