okay listen. i love jrwi, i really do. i love riptide and prime defenders, and the community has been pretty good, i have a lot of mutuals that are super cool. but the attitude and ferocity in which people defend the lgbt rep in the show? mh. not it.
podcasts as a medium have been incredibly full of queer creators making wonderful stories, including ttrpgs. especially ttrpgs!!! most of jrwi’s lgbt rep has been behind a paywall (and that was a joke for 90% of the series), or a joke (i’m looking at you fnc canon kiss), and the rest is vaguely implied. correct me if i’m wrong on this, i’m not caught up. i don’t really care about what the folks say off mic about characters, to be quite honest. there has been little indication of the actual queerness of characters in any form beside an npc who wasn’t even fully created by the showrunners. and that is my point. the lgbt stuff that people latch onto are things that have either been questions answered off mic, or things that the fan community has expanded upon that were only hinted at in canon, or just headcanoned.
im not saying that this is wrong, or the series is bad because of it, but the attitude that the fandom has towards it is... a lot for what is actually there on screen in earnest. it’s not the most lgbt podcast with fantastic rep that you say it is. there are so many podcasts with the kind of representation and characters that you are looking for. again, it’s not a bad podcast because of this, but we’ve gotta stop acting like it’s queer as hell.
so here are some podcasts with fully fleshed out, explicitly queer characters (with their corresponding vibe):
Dungeons & Daddies (s1: riptide, s2: pd)
The Broadswords (apotheosis)
All My Hexes (admittedly unfinished but still good)
A Horror Borealis (bitb)
Bombarded (riptide)
Fantasy High (of course) (pd)
Wildbranch High (pd)
Kollok 1991 (pd, bitb)
Monster Hour (s1: pd, kinda apotheosis)
$2 Creature Feature (pd)
Dice Crisis (riptide)
Hope’s Hearth (i haven’t started this one yet, but it’s on my list)
The Storyteller Squad (pd)
Dangerous Times at Chillhaven High (soooo much pd vibes)
Shrimp and Crits (bitb)
Pest Control (s1: riptide but modern, s2: early pd)
The Unexplored Places (they have many seasons, i can rant about them for hours tbh)
The Monster’s Playbook (pd, kinda bitb)
and that’s just the actual plays
again, i love jrwi, but we have got to stop hailing it as an exemplar of lgbt actual play podcasts because it just isn’t.

something I’ve talked about on here a few times is a paranormal podcast that I listen to regularly that’s very hit and miss where quality is concerned. when it’s good, it’s great. when it’s bad… it’s rough.
but two reoccurring issues with it just get under my skin so much
The guy who hosts it, for lack of a better term, is a “california skeptic”. meaning, you can tell he’s from a west coast US background, where new age spirituality is way more normalized than it is on the other side of this country. for one, it’s a bias that screws with your discernment with this stuff. it also sticks out in a distracting way to me so much. I’m an east coastie and, like, if you open up a salt lounge over here, I’m getting an incoming call from everyone ive ever met in my life who wants to trash talk how stupid they think it is. even my grandma wants to reiterate “rocks don’t have special powers”.
there have been like several episodes so far where some (usually white) doofus is like “I have ghosts and shit in my house. Time to bother my indigenous coworker about it because maybe they know a medicine man or whatever.” that’s so unhinged. like if I went up to my coworker and was like “hey. you’re from New Mexico. you’re Navajo. I have a bit of a pest control problem, except with demons. care to give me an exorcist’s business card? I’ll spot them for the plane ticket.” I don’t think any jury in the world would convict her if she slapped me lol. it’s noble savage bs and I hate not seeing pushback on it.

Brozone & Acquaintances: Fame and Blunders (The Rise And Fall, The Epic Highs And Lows Of Trolltwt) Part Seven
The Lucky Seventh Chapter: Seven TheyFAB Exes: The Seven Stages of Internet Beef
Viva: After “practising” throwing herself down the stairs for totally innocent and non blackmail reasons, Viva’s egg breaks. She is livid, not just because it’s her baby, but bc she is a fucking monster and only wanted the baby to control Clay, who still didn’t even know she was eggnant. Luckily........
Broppy: They’re expecting! They’re sooooooo happy, they just can’t wait to tell everyone! Poppy insists they get to tell her sister first, and Branch just cant say no to her ♥. However, Viva “talks some sense into them”. How can they have a kid? So soon? Poppy’s barely in her mid 20s! They’re not even MARRIED, are they really going to have a kid out of wedlock? What if they break up? You’d really traumatise that poor kid for your own gain? And so on. They end up agreeing that they should either abort it, or put it up for adoption, and Viva says she will take care of it, she’ll always take care of everything, she’d do anything for you, Poppy, and even though Branch and Poppy leave Viva and Clay’s pod missing an egg and of slightly duller saturation, Viva considers it a victory.
Satin & Chenille: Graciously invited to the Floyd & Creek [LASTNAME]-[LASTNAME2] household for dinner. Creek is the one who invited them, because he used to date both sisters (He dated Satin first, then started cheating on her with Chenille (on account of their societally accepted eating disorders they take a lot of naps at different schedules, and Creek planned around that), then broke it off with Satin to exclusively date Chenille (he’s the one who recommended her a doctor for her liposuctions) who eventually dumped HIM after finding out she was, once again, left with her sister’s sloppy seconds) and wants to “bury the hatchet”. Floyd does not know any of this. He thinks they’re just old friends.
Even though Floyd and Creek have experience pretending to be a normal couple they let it slip that they actually hate each other (in the most /pos /affectionate /sexual intent way possible) after they both get drunk and fight about Brozone, and TrollTube, and lactose intolerance, and lastly the fact that Creek killed their baby, which causes him to pounce on Floyd like an enraged chimpanzee in a way the twins think MIGHT have been foreplay? But was probably just some sort of domestic row. Unbeknownst to them, it was both.
Chenille captures half the fight on her trollPhone 15 Pro and S&C say they will both release the footage AND discuss the rest of their experiences on their podcast, UNLESS they get something in return for their silence. Floyd immediately tries to phone Clay (who does not pick up) to see how much they can afford to pay them off, but the twins say they don’t want their money (Satin still wants their money) and that they both have to be on their show. Floyd and Creek don’t think that sounds so bad! They’re celebrities, after all, they’re used to being interviewed. Floyd is the first to go on the show and he comes back home feeling emotionally violated. He assumes Creek will fare a lot worse but Creek is a sex pest and is not capable of feeling much shame anymore, so he’s doing okay. Really, he’s mostly concerned at the idea his husband will find out he invited two of his exes into the pod, but the twins don’t want people to know that either (not because he’s a controversial figure, since, samesies, but because they’re ashamed of how bad their taste was back then).
Hairgate: The twins send Creek home with complimentary Nova Swift Brand Shampoo and despite there being clear instructions on the label, he uses too much so his hair becomes frazzled and immobile. Floyd tells him that's just what happens to troll hair once you approach your 30s to mess with him, and even though Creek knows that's factually not true he is still inconsolable. Floyd has to actually help him after he tries to turn his hair into a noose, fails, and crawls into a ball and sobs. Floyd helps him condition with Nova Swift Brand Conditioner and after a week he's back to normal, albeit having once again been put through the emotional wringer. But that's what he signed up for when he proposed!
Demo: Val’s manager and roommate. Gave them a place to stay after they left Barb’s band and crack house and doesn’t know how to begin to tackle the topic of their racism. He can't even ask them to stop smoking weed in the house! At least use the window, Val!
He’s also the guy Gus usually queerbaits with, but only because he thinks Gus is actually gay. He thinks there’s a misunderstanding WRT Gus’ violent homophobia so he tries to “help his friend out”. Gus suggests they pretend to be a couple to get the heat off him and Demo agrees a little too quickly, despite already dating DJ Suki, who knows about the plan and doesn’t care. She and Demo’s relationship was already on the rocks after finding out she uses child labour, and after Gus starts to develop genuine feelings for Gus he breaks it off with her to tell him how he really feels, which goes about as well as you’d expect telling a homophobic straight man you’re in love with him to go. He tries to get back with DJ despite their issues and she says “nah”.
Cloud Guy: After being permabanned on Troll Twitter, he moves back in with his parents. He lasts a month before intentionally dissipating himself into mist. Rest in perspiration. Branch celebrates in the privacy of his own pod because he knows it’s a shitty thing to be happy about. Dante approves of this rare display of Branch’s sociopathy (he’s earned it).
Clay: Viva forced JD to let her see Clay, and she tells him that she’s got an egg, then shows him the little pastel pink + baby blue egg in her hair. He immediately goes back to her, thrilled he’s gonna be a dad, and convinced this is what it’ll take to fix their relationship. It is not. He still tries to make it work, and dedicates every waking moment to either prepping for the baby or doing whatever it is Viva tells him to do (he doesn’t want to provoke her, after all).
Dante: Sends a glitter bomb to Branch’s current pod (he moved out of his bunker. Because of Dante). Since they are trolls, the glitter bomb is treated with the exact same intensity and urgency as an actual bomb, which it probably functions as. Poppy visits Dante’s pod in The Crest and beats him over the head with one of the spikes she borrowed from Branch, because she’s too scared to skewer him, but she assures him that next time she’ll get over that fear. He calls the Classical Crest Cops on her, and you’d think small town police would have nothing on the Queen, but you’d be wrong. She spends the night in a jail cell before Branch is allowed to pick her up, and he has to break the news that Dante’s pressing charges for aggravated assault. They just can’t catch a break these days!
Bedgate: Guy Diamond doubles down on his controversial conservative parenting style and gets very public with how he thinks letting troll babies sleep in beds instead of in their parents’ hair leads to mental issues. His primary source is Creek’s conspiracy video (and accompanying community post) about the links between beds and Autism in troll babies, while Creek doesn’t believe this one bit and even lets his kids sleep in beds. He just says it for the clicks.
Floyd (either under the effects of miscellaneous substances or just wanting to make life harder for his husband) posts a "wholesome family photo" of him and his lovespawn (Creek is absent) in their room with their beds clearly visible, and the anti-bed crowd immediately turn on Creek for lying about his support for the cause.
Guy Diamond goes through Tiny’s phone after the "Tiny is famous Trollex stan account" incident and finds a message he sent on Troll Discord where he says he wishes he had a bed. Guy starts sobbing. It’s a deeper cut than him being Pro-Choice.
Barb throws her hat into the ring, because of course she does. She’s pro-bed, and thinks it’s awful that Guy wouldn’t love his kid even if he does end up "fucked in the head". Guy responds "Are you fucking kidding me? Are you serious right now? Am I being Punk’d? Why is the TERF preaching to me?"
Guy Diamond only bothered checking out Creek’s conspiracy videos because he wanted to reconnect with him after seeing how Creek fanart seemingly overnight pivoted into solely depicting him as a trans man. He now thinks the only reason Creek was so dismissive of him back when they were briefly together (while Guy identified as nonbinary and Creek only dated theyfabs who were not taking T) was because Creek was struggling with internalised transphobia, instead of regular transphobia, which Creek did used to have because he is a cis man and the only reason people draw him with top surgery scars now is because Harper started doing it (for the “representation”) and it caught on. He’s not trans, he’s just short and boyishly handsome. Guy thinks Creek now “accepts himself” (there is nothing to accept because Creek is a cis man) and is worth another shot (Creek is miserably married and has no intentions of ending the arrangement ever).
Veneer: Got hit by a bus. Velvet set up a GoFundMe to hold a proper funeral for him but she has no intention of actually holding a funeral. She spends it all on vanity purchases. Kid Ritz boosted the GoFundMe when it was in its infancy and now he feels super bad about it.

What is emotional awareness? Why do people hide their feeling?
July 6, 2023
Author: Yuting Yen
Keywords: emotional awareness, feeling, emotion
Persona: all genders, 20-40 years old
Introduction
Emotional awareness is not an uncommon term in modern society (sometimes it sounds like terminology). When talking about health concerns, which is the most well-liked topic online, in a podcast or a magazine, people may think that if I have a nice body shape, have six packs, have firm abs (abdominal muscles), or a standard BMI value it represents that they are healthy, and logically speaking, they are right. Their physical forms may look amazing and aesthetically pleasing, but what about their inside? Wait a minute! I am not referring to the health status of their inside organs, but rather their mental health.
An individual's mental health is critical, it might sound like an old cliché, but people tend to neglect its consequences. According to research from the University of Minnesota, our body health can be affected by our thoughts and feelings. Thus, in this article, I would like to give my readers, who are around 20 to 40 years old, a brief introduction to an easy understanding of what is emotional awareness and why it is critical to every individual. It also raises awareness of the importance of paying attention to our emotions. Moreover, I would like to discuss the relationship between families and why humans conceal their emotions. So, let's start!
What is emotional awareness?
Emotional awareness is the ability to recognize our feelings and understand why we behave that way. Imagine your body as a wooden house, your emotions as columns and beams, and the pressure and negative thoughts as termites. With their strong mandibles, these emotional termites chew and damage your beams and columns when you feel stressed. Now you call a pest exterminator to check your house and spray termiticide on the floor, so there are no more termites in the woods until the next time these ruthless mentally charged pests attack your house, and you need to call pest control again.
We feel mad, angry, depressed, or dissatisfied when we think negatively. If we do not want to accept it and face it or even solve it, it will be like a termite colony. They ruin our mental health continuously and gradually. No matter whether we know it or not, emotions play a major role in our decision-making journey and every reaction in. However, emotional awareness is a skill that can be learned with patience and practice. To develop this skill, we learn how to connect with these uncomfortable feelings. We find suitable solutions to manage them or overcome the terrible mood.
In other words, emotion awareness teaches two basic abilities.
The ability to recognize your feelings. For example, ask yourself “How am I feeling right now?” or “I felt uncomfortable in that situation, and I understand why.”
2. The ability to handle difficult emotions in difficult situations.
The second function of emotional awareness is to allow us to understand others' feelings and thoughts from others’ points of view, rather than our own.
Tumblr media
Why is emotional awareness relevant?
Dr. Sheri Jacobson says emotional awareness is the ability to recognize and make sense of your and others’ feelings.
Have you had an experience where you felt depressed or anxious, but don't know why, and this feeling controlled you? Have you experienced an unpleasant feeling that negatively affected your decision-making? Have you felt uncomfortable after being rejected and harboured resentment toward people who said NO to you, or did you feel guilty for saying NO to others? That is why we need to learn how to recognize our true feelings. Sometimes, we might feel regret after our temper is out of control or think we shouldn’t have said yes to everything. Our emotions drive our behaviors so if we don’t recognize our feelings, we will not fully understand our actions.
Betraying your feelings to make others happy is not a healthy way to maintain a healthy connection with people. This is true regardless of whether those people are your close friends, your roommates, your family, or even your partner. I know this sounds challenging. Some might also consider it scarification because they love their family and friends, too. As a result of the rejection, they are also concerned that it will ruin their relationship. Therefore, I would like to point out the benefit of learning emotional awareness and what it can give you:
Recognize who we are: What do we like? What don’t we like?
Have clear and effective communication with others.
Show mercy and compassion toward others.
Understand ourselves and avoid wrong decision-making.
Help ourselves build healthy relationships and boundaries with others.
Avoid panicking when faced with difficulties.
Why do people hide feelings?
If you find this story familiar, you can relate to Linda's position.
Linda’s friend, Anna, repeatedly asked her for a cup of coffee on the way to the office. This was because Anna was unable to fulfill it herself. The first time, Linda replied yes without hesitation. The second time Anna approached Linda for the same favour again. She still agreed yes but this time she felt a little uneasy. The third time, Linda felt uncomfortable, even though she still agreed yes to Anna. The fourth time, Linda found an excuse to reject Anna. However, Anna said she needed to send her children to school so she cannot buy it on the way to the office. Linda said yes again.
Why has Linda never said no to Anna and accepted her requests?
Our brain serves as a built-in security system, so protecting ourselves from danger is our natural reaction. When we are confronted with challenging scenarios, our brains instinctively choose the option with the least risk. This concept applies to our relationship.
After talking to Linda, she indicated that she has known Anna for more than 10 years, therefore they consider each other best friends. Linda mentioned that Anna also helps her when she needs to. Moreover, Linda is worried that Anna might think Linda is not a trustworthy friend when she declines Anna's requests.
As human beings are social animals, a feeling of belonging and identity is essential. To avoid getting hurt, people hide their feelings. If you react negatively or tell people how you feel, it might lead to a more harmful conflict. In addition, avoiding showing weakness is another reason, as showing your emotions might put you in a vulnerable position. Human nature protects us by refraining from expressing sadness, madness, fear, or frustration in front of others. However, hiding emotions could result in disrupted communication, emotional breakdown, physical health disorders or mental disorders.
Tumblr media
Summary
People hide their feelings because they worry about others’ reactions or what others think about them. Occasionally concealment is necessary, but it is not a healthy way to deal with negative feelings.
Even though it can be difficult to recognize your emotions and express them correctly to others, practicing being more patient with your true heart or visiting a therapist can help you in the long term. In this case, consequences are not an issue.
If this happens again, try to express how you feel toward the person who makes you feel uneasy. You don't have to scold them or blame them, you just need to tell them "Hey, I don't think I am comfortable with the situation." It is fine if they don't like your reaction because it is not your problem. Remember, if you want to be respected by others, the great thing is to respect yourself.

Did I miss #AudioDramaSunday? Yes! But I finished/caught up on a lot of audio dramas this week, so I'm just posting this today.
I am reviewing Tell No Tales, Haunted House Flippers, Jar of Rebuke, Malevolent, and talking a bit about The Aberrant Report because I can! Here it goes:
Tell No Tales @tellnotalespod
I loved Tell No Tales! It is an empathetic take on ghost hunting. I got invested in the main character, Leo, just as much as I became invested in the ghosts they are trying to give a voice to. It is fun, it is silly, but it is also very emotional. Some episodes hit hard.
The plot (no spoilers): Leo has an invention they are tweaking they believe will help them talk to ghosts. The only problem? They work for a ghost removal company. But are ghosts just pests? How close to human are they? And do they consent to being removed?
I highly recommend it.
Haunted House Flippers
I also caught up with Haunted House Flippers! As someone probably on the spectrum, I really appreciate the characters in this podcast! Both Tom and Lee strike me as different "brands" of autistic, but in a very respectful and loving way. There is a lot of heart and soul put into all of the characters. Janet and Tom's relationship, while starting off a bit off putting (in ep 1-5), is one of the best couples I've seen in media in quite a while. Tom is ghost obsessed; Janet is true crime obsessed. Together, they must flip Tom's late grandfather's house. And Tom is convinced that it is haunted.
It is a horror comedy with wonderful characters. It's silly, often light hearted, but will remind you it is horror when it needs to. I love this podcast and I can't wait to see where this next season goes!
Jar of Rebuke @jarofrebukepodcast
Jar of Rebuke is another show where the main character feels autistic. And, much like Tell No Tales, the main character works with cryptid hunters(?) scientists(?) while empathizing with the cryptids around them. The day-to-day life of Jared is interesting in and of itself, but by episode 9, I was fully on the edge of my seat.
The non-spoiler plot summary is: Dr. Jared has lost their memories. They must work for The Enclosure, a sketchy organization studying cryptids, to regain them. What's more, they cannot seem to die. It's both a slice of life AND a paranormal mystery. I highly recommend it!
Malevolent @malevolentcast
I've started listening to Malevolent again. The gimmick (a detective whose eyes are controlled by his new demon headmate) works wonderfully in the audio drama medium. And the execution of that concept is spooky and highly compelling. We'll see how it goes! I'm on episode 8!
The Aberrant Report
I wanted to add my own podcast to the list this week, because why not? It's a paranormal mystery starring Junie Bahisa, and impulsive danger-prone student journalist at Abbottsville University. There is a wide cast of characters and a diverse cast of actors! The show is extremely queer.
The story focuses a lot on the relationships between Junie and the other characters, like her best friend Robbie, while also delving into darker themes with aberrant encounters.
We are on our midseason break with 6 episodes out, but we will be back late December! I really hope y'all enjoy what we've created so far in the meantime!

Bit late to the bit but I'm watching the imp and skizz podcast and shout out to the random pest control man who thought impulse was an adult content creator.
edit: man Skizz really seems like a genuinely nice dude, like someone you'd want to speak with over coffee and pastries.
edit edit: what even happened in limited life? I have no memory of even seeing anything on tumblr
editeditedit: "it's a control thing, I like having control of your body" - skizzleman 2023
editediteideited: OLAN ROGERS?????
ediedeideideit: I like listening to them talk so much, so comforting. Started of with Mumbo's episode (ofcourse) and now I'm watching Tango's and its so nice

I want to talk to you about something much more evil
I don’t ever want to talk about dark shit
Awwww HOME OWNER KATYA!!!!!
Not the framed Old portrait of Trixie falling & shattering on Trixie’s birthday — What?
I gotta get it reframed I guess
I love my new house Girl, I’m so happy for you
You work really, really hard [bursts out laughing]
Lmfao the foreshadowing of the cockroach
Trixie giving Katya pest control advice is actually really adorable & endearing
Of course Katya wants a ghost instead lmao
I can’t believe Chime continues to let Trixie do these little girl voice ads lol
The production of … what I’m working on — bestie we all know it’s QOTU
Katya being OUTRAGED at Trixie not being let into the Ritz
Oh no Trixie being embarrassed ☹️
I look like Dolly Parton & I smell like a llama — okay this was a good joke
This thing I’m working on — it’s not even the fact that we knew before this pod it’s QOTU, it’s the context clues of Michelle & Graham — okay there we go the acknowledgement that she’s mentioned them & what else would she be doing
Trixie showing off the graphic novels & telling Katya about the plot 🥺
And Katya telling Trixie what else she needs to watch 🥺
No please the two of them laughing about this Cher joke 🥺🥺🥺
Bro why is Trixie full naming the boyfriend on the pod / in conversation with Katya
Waiting to get jump scared by this flying cockroach
Last week’s podcast Oh mama we didn’t do one, we didn’t do one
I can’t even do your bad Cher
We think you could maybe do an old man?
OH MY GOD 😂😂😂😂😂 KATYA YELLING TRIXIE’S NAME OFF SCREEN DURING THE COCKROACH INCIDENT
Not Katya opening the door trying to call the cockroach outside 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I feel bad laughing but this is hysterical
I AM SO GLAD THEY LEFT ALL OF THIS IN oh my fucking god
My fucking face hurts from laughing so much
Mama, that’s a bird. She’s so large
Mary, I don’t need all this
These idiots lol
That trauma of yours is so embedded into my body it’s like I was there & did it
Not Trixie having to think of how to respond to Katya’s sex news
👀 Katya not answering if it’s with the same person
Omg that was so funny. I’m going to need them to talk about whatever Katya got Trixie for her birthday in the next episode though please!

Get to know me
[useless info edition]
I was tagged by: @blacknoiseabyss 🖤
1. What do you have under your bed? box spring 🫣 floor bed floor bed floor bed
2. Favorite candy? (be very specific if possible) KitKats or coconut ferrero rocher
3. Describe your favorite shirt: difficult. definitely a hoodie. rn it’s probably my last podcast on the left hoodie
4. The last thing you drew/doodled was: the halo and wings on my old school simblr edit! specifically the little hearts in the wings
5. Are you completely sober rn? yep. And generally so for the past year unless my bestie is in town or the very occasional night out ;-;
6. What's the one thing that annoys you more than anything? hmm. I’ll pick something little. Small, repetitive, human-made sounds like foot tapping agitate me. But it’s my problem, not anyone else’s (except my brothers 😡)
7. Have you ever gotten you tongue stuck to a cold pole during winter? A pole, no. But an ice cream truck ice cream got stuck to my lip once and I was little and it scared me so I yanked it off and. Um injured myself
8. If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would it be? Also at home in bed bc I’m at work rn :p, in North Carolina 🤢 to visit my best friend, or at my favorite local drag bar. Oh and I wish I could take my mom to Vegas
9. What was the single last word you spoke? “[thank] you” to the pest control guy who got raccoon droppings rained on him from my attic door.
