“A new kind of "phase transition" in water was first proposed 30 years ago in a study by researchers from Boston University. Because the transition has been predicted to occur at supercooled conditions, however, confirming its existence has been a challenge. That's because at these low temperatures, water really does not want to be a liquid, instead it wants to rapidly become ice. Because of its hidden status, much is still unknown about this liquid-liquid phase transition, unlike the everyday examples of phase transitions in water between a solid or vapor phase and a liquid phase.”

“The team has used computer simulations to help explain what features distinguish the two liquids at the microscopic level. They found that the water molecules in the high-density liquid form arrangements that are considered to be "topologically complex," such as a trefoil knot (think of the molecules arranged in such a way that they resemble a pretzel) or a Hopf link (think of two links in a steel chain). The molecules in the high-density liquid are thus said to be entangled.

In contrast, the molecules in the low-density liquid mostly form simple rings, and hence the molecules in the low-density liquid are unentangled.

Andreas Neophytou, a Ph.D. student at the University of Birmingham with Dr. Dwaipayan Chakrabarti, is lead author on the paper. He says, "This insight has provided us with a completely fresh take on what is now a 30-year old research problem, and will hopefully be just the beginning."

If Machete and Vasco were roommates before they became a couple, there had to have been moments of innocent touching/body contact, followed by deep gay panic.

#I think the transition from platonic friends to a couple was very gradual the line was blurry #even if they weren't a proper serious item yet their relationship was definitely romantically tinted #by the time they rented that tiny attic room together #Vasco had figured out his orientation early on he was well past the identity crisis phase #Machete had mountains of religious trauma to work through so his road to self acceptance was rocky but he did reach it eventually #he guilt and shame and doubt kept resurfacing every now and then but the need for love and companionship was stronger #Vasco is naturally tactile and affectionate it doesn't take much to get an occasional hug or back pat or hand holding from him #and Machete had grown in a touch deprived bubble so as soon as he managed to overcome the initial fear and repulsion #he began to metamorphose into the lap dog he probably should've been all along #casual physical closeness was present even before things got lovey-dovey but that doesn't mean there weren't moments of gay panic #answered #skunkbomb

Scientists can now use terahertz waves to record real-time movies of hot electrons in silicon at 50,000 frames per second—faster than ever before.”

The second stretches the rainbow pulse in time inside a long fiber, slowing down the rate of information so that it can be recorded in real time by advanced electronic equipment. i love thinking about harry's relationship to his sexuality because like. we can infer that it's something he didn't know about himself before his amnesia. he spent 44 years full of internalized homophobia in what we can guess is not an especially accepting society, probably thinking "well i'm dating a woman so i'm straight it's fine lol. i'm sooo straight." just deliberately Not Thinking About It every time he saw a guy he thought was hot. turning it into a whole "guys being dudes" thing if he ever caught himself definitely-not-flirting with guys. being a stereotypical gym teacher because as we all know, anything that happens between pumped-up men in a gym locker room doesn't count. nevermind the fact that he based his entire personality off a disco star that he personally found hot, or had a fixation with a male boxer so rampant that even jean got sick of hearing about it. ignore the mullet and the affinity for disco long after the genre had gone culturally extinct, which are maybe two of the most bi things a man can have. all of these things and he's just like wow i sure love women! i'm so straight! i wonder what it would feel like to kiss this guy dancing in the club. with tongue. but like as bros lol i kiss women only! no homo!

then he forgets everything including homosexuality, but more importantly, including homophobia, so he doesn't have a label for his feelings but he also lacks the associated reservations, so he's just openly like wow these men are so cool and muscular and handsome. that smoker guy's shirt was open and he left before i could keep staring :( my brain is destroyed and i forgot the face of my partner of 3 years but remember that hot working-class boxer? hey kim i decided i don't care about my sexuality anymore, but also are you gay? oh cool. anyway i'm gonna go flirt with idiot doom spiral right in front of you and make ambiguously homosexual remarks all the time.

Glow Week yet again! This time for Rain! @glowweek (My thought was that this is immediately after it rained and they've gone out in the mud looking for weird stuff).

This one is a redraw of Aleth Romanillos' art but with Sven and Connor :3 Its a fun pastime of mine to make edits of official media and screenshots but convert it to their AU.

They're good target for edits because they look significantly different, but I can leave most of the background unaltered because they go through a lot of the same events that Steven and Connie do, in comparison to Leo who has a totally different vibe and early series of events or Druid who has 99 percent of his relevant story happen way after canon is over
