ask replies!

it’s been a while since i’ve done one of these!! i'm like a dragon sitting on its hoard except my hoard is a pile of beautiful asks. thank you as always for these messages! you guys are absolute sweethearts and it’s so warm and humbling reading through these when i’m feeling blue.

on that note, i did make a curiouscat account! i’m so bad at answering tumblr asks - i can never guarantee that they’ll be answered on time, if at all >< if you want a prompt response this will be your best bet!

1. gosh thank you so much!! i feel like i’m constantly inspired by independent artists these days, but if i had to choose influences that were there from the very beginning, yoshihiko umakoshi and CLAMP are ones that come to mind :>

2. i think i touched on this briefly in my faq! but i’m honestly not sure just bc i don’t know what knowledge i could offer - i’m not too hot at explaining the reasoning behind why i do things... a simple walkthrough of my drawing process is what i’d be comfortable with, most likely! something to think about if i ever opened a patreon 👀 ✨

3. omg you’re totally fine anon! my icon is from a later season of ojamajo doremi, my favorite magical girl anime! actually now that we’re on the subject, i REALLY encourage everybody to read this article about it!!! it talks about what makes doremi so special, the staff behind production - it sums up what i love about the series in a much more eloquent way ♥

AHH ANON YOU MAKE MY HEART SING!!! asking about my ocs omg i’m slain. lana is from a very old story of mine - she was a side character suffering from an illness that kept her bedridden most of her life. iirc her disfiguration was an accident when she was younger.. she got something in her eye that blinded her and she tried to claw it out in a panic. she later gains transformative / regenerative abilities that grant her wish to look “beautiful” but after realizing her powers are temporary, she becomes desperate to keep them no matter the cost...

she’s ok in the end tho!!

1. technically i have, at my bfa exhibition haha! we had a pop-up shop available so i drew a set of miniprints to promote a game demo i made as my senior project. i still have a bunch left over from then, golly... thank you so much tho waaa!

Hi! I was wondering if I could ask u something for story-writing purposes. I want to have a crew of magic user girls & the unofficial leader is chronically ill. Her room is the main hangout bc she's in bed so much. My 2 Qs are: what would you personally like to see or not see in a chronically ill char? And what components do u think are important in a bedroom that someone sick spends so much time in?

Hey!

First of all, thank you for doing this, more chronically ill girls are desperately needed in fiction, especially as main characters. Obviously illnesses are all different, so I can give some broad advice but you’d have to tailor some things to be more specific for her.

Something I think is most important is that there will be things she physically cannot do, and that’s okay. Don’t try to have powers that compensate for her struggles, have her powers (if she has them, which I’m assuming is likely in a magical girl setting :P) be completely unrelated to her illness, or at least not ‘making up’ for it.

Her illness should be central to her character, but not all there is. My illness affects literally every aspect of my life, but as well as being sick, I’m an artist, i love cooking, I play video games. Let her have more to her without taking her illness away or ignoring it when it’s inconvenient.

She should be allowed to have anger and sadness about her situation, being ill sucks, trust me. But don’t overdo it, if all she ever does is complain about her illness, if you only ever show her life in a negative light, that can be really upsetting as an ill reader. Let her be happy and have good times too!

The bedroom would definitely be dependant on her illness. My bedroom looks like a damn hospital ward lmao; I have a dialysis machine, and the cupboards are filled to the brim with meds. Most chronically ill people would at least have some meds, maybe a blood pressure machine, a thermometer, possibly some kind of mobility aid. And less medical stuff too, probably a fair few bottles of water/whatever drink she likes, some sort of comfort like a blanket or soft toy, a laptop or phone to communicate with people when you’re stuck in our room, haha.

Also, the number one thing: Don’t cure her. If nothing else, just don’t do this.

I know everyone else is sending u wild family history stories but u mentioned your dad's fam's body type so, most of us on my dad's side, our 1st 4 bottom teeth are crooked in the exact same way (esp 1st on the left juts way forward & overlaps the 1st to the right, the 2nd on the left is is set rly far back) & the 2 top front teeth the left overlaps the right as well. This is so specific lol but its really distinct
