A while ago, I did a post about why I don't believe in psychopathy. I've now expanded it into a full essay. This is a long piece with a lot of thoughts, but I wanted it to be out there. Here is my full argument for why the whole cultural idea of psychopathy is bad science and underneath it, bad morals.

Tomarrymort Starter Pack: 10 Recs for Getting Started in Tomarrymort
I've compiled a list of 10 medium to longfic recs that I think represent a great on-ramp to the Tomarrymort ship, as inspired by @sitp-recs’ Drarry for Beginners rec list. These are the fics that I would use to on-board people to the ship — gorgeous writing, superb characterization, and just as enjoyable on the first read as the 20th reread.
As always, I am stunned by the talent in this ship! I tried to pick a good mix of different themes/tropes/settings, with a focus on elements that make for a good introductory work: the characters are recognizable; the setting skews more recognizable; both characters in the ship are a meaningful part of the story; the ship is central to the story; and the fics are for the most part complete (or updated within the last year).
(Standard rec list disclaimers apply: please mind all tags and warnings on AO3 before reading; this blog abides by the age-old fandom axiom of don’t like; don’t read; recs are in alphabetical order by title.)
This is Part 1 of a 3-part series — I also have an Intermediate reading list and Advanced reading list coming up for readers who have been with the ship for a longer time.
For now, please enjoy these 1.3 million words of absolutely brilliant Tomarrymort reads that I hope will keep you hooked until the very last word:

Tomarrymort Starter Pack Recs
A Dangerous Game by @cybrid (E, 284k, WIP)
Setting: Canon Divergence – Book 5 Premise: If Tom’s diary horcrux gains a body at the end of Harry’s 5th year (instead of his 2nd), and then promptly kidnaps Harry and holds him captive over the summer. Lots of smut ensues. Why I rec it: The characterization is truly stunning — Tom Riddle is undoubtedly a psychopath — manipulative, thrill-seeking, kind of an irredeemable shithead — but he’s also dazzlingly charming when he chooses to be, someone whose presence Harry quickly grows addicted to. Their relationship can get incredibly toxic and fucked-up at times, but Harry has top-notch instincts and can hold his own against Tom. The plot is absolutely gripping, with the threat of (the main) Voldemort, who has set his sights on reclaiming his wayward horcrux, looming in the background.
A Future Without a Face by @dividawrites (E, 115k, complete)
Setting: Time-Travel (1940s) Premise: If Harry travels back in time to Tom’s 5th year at Hogwarts, and Tom becomes obsessed with the new transfer student and wants nothing more than to possess him every way. Why I rec it: A 1940s time travel fic told entirely from Tom Riddle POV! Divida absolutely nails psychopath Tom — how he quickly gets singlemindedly focused on Harry, how the idea of possessing Harry consumes him, how he has no compunctions about doing completely fucked-up and destructive things to achieve his goals. There is so much tension between them from the start, so there’s not much of a wait to see some hot Harry & Tom action — and the conflict and tension only continues to build and build in dramatic fashion throughout the rest of the fic.
Either must die at the hand of the other by @metalomagnetic (E, 260k, complete)
Setting: Post-Canon Premise: If Voldemort survives the Battle of Hogwarts and is initially kept prisoner in Azkaban, until Harry takes him into Grimmauld Place under house arrest. Why I rec it: This fic is an incredible exploration of Voldemort at his most terrifying. Even if he starts off the fic with his magic temporarily blocked, he is no less powerful without his magic. The force of his personality is powerful enough for him to chip away at Harry’s initial resistance — @metalomagnetic manages to write one of the most charismatic, brilliantly manipulative, and psychologically devastating versions of Voldemort I’ve ever read. Harry ends up in a good place by the end of the fic, but the journey to get there is a roller-coaster of emotions that have permanently imprinted onto my soul.
In Somno Veritas by ladyoflilacs and @lordansketil (M, 158k, complete)
Setting: Canon Divergence – Book 6 Premise: If Harry starts appearing in Voldemort’s nightly dreams during Book 6, and Voldemort becomes obsessed with Harry after realizing he’s his horcrux. Why I rec it: This is one of the most unique fics I’ve ever read in this ship! Every scene is told in alternating POV between Harry’s POV and Voldemort’s POV, so you get to see how every scene unfolds from both of their perspectives. Voldemort is so intense and just as terrible as he is in canon, so his character is not at all sugarcoated, and Harry has so much compassion and heart and manages to fall in love with Voldemort anyway. The writing style is gorgeous, with richly detailed and emotionally-laden prose. Also, one thing that pleasantly surprised me is how funny their banter is! There were definitely a number of times where I laughed out loud in the middle of an otherwise really intense scene. Bonus content: also comes with a lovely sequel that made me melt.
Inevitabilities by @shadow-of-the-eclipse (T, 103k, complete)
Setting: Same-Age AU Premise: If Harry and Tom attend Hogwarts together and go traveling around the world after they graduate. A betrayal leads to their break-up, but after many years, Harry returns to find Tom in Britain, and the two of them are drawn back together again. Why I rec it: An excellent same-age AU with unhinged dark Harry and just-as-unhinged Tom. Their relationship starts out quite dark and twisted and unhealthy — and only devolves from there. The fic ends with the two of them as equals — utterly devoted to each other — but in an incredibly fucked-up way: “He loves Tom like a forest fire; wild and all-consuming, he wants to devour Tom, to claim him, to mark him, break him.” Isn’t that absolutely breathtaking?
love is touching souls (surely you touched mine) by @toast-ranger-to-a-stranger (M, 34k, complete)
Setting: Time-Travel (1940s) Premise: If Harry gets thrown back into the mid-1940s and meets Tom Riddle as a young man just graduated from Hogwarts working at Borgin and Burkes. Why I rec it: When Harry accidentally travels back in time and chances upon Tom Riddle as a fresh graduate, he realizes this is his chance to make a difference. While Harry is only in the past for a brief interlude, he leaves enough of an impression to change the trajectory of Tom’s life. The dynamic between Harry and Tom is rife with tension and witty dialogue, and the story is set during Christmastime, which lends a very festive and heartwarming atmosphere for falling in love with each other.
No Glory by @obsidianpen (E, 254k, WIP)
Setting: Voldemort Wins AU  Premise: If Voldemort figures out Harry is his horcrux when Harry surrenders in the Forbidden Forest, and decides to keep Harry instead of killing him.  Why I rec it: This fic showcases the absolute, terrifying genius side of Voldemort, in a universe where he wins the war and captures Harry at the end of book 7. I am stunned at how skillfully @obsidianpen portrays Voldemort as a brilliant political strategist — the courtroom scene where he manipulates the story and the audience so well stands out as a top 10 fanfic moment in my mind. Harry and Voldemort’s relationship is chilling from the very start, and grows even more unhealthy as Voldemort gets addicted to Harry’s touch due to the presence of the horcrux, but Harry later learns to turn that to his advantage.
The Fire, Burning by @parsimmony (E, 35k, complete)
Setting: Canon Divergence – Book 6 Premise: If Voldemort discovers Harry is his horcrux after Book 6, and kidnaps him to keep him captive by his side in his bed, inside of a lovely greenhouse setting full of friendly snakes on the grounds of Malfoy Manor. Why I rec it: The prose!! I am swooning over the prose! Harry is Voldemort’s captive in this fic, but he is so much more than that — and the emotions that gradually blossom between them have so much richness and depth and are utterly moving that I’m still drowning in the depths of intimacy that were portrayed. Their relationship unfolds in such a gorgeous and unrushed way, and the setting is so unique too — a lush and overgrown greenhouse that’s exploding with exotic plants and friendly snakes around every corner that imbues the fic with a very romantic, dreamy quality.
the pleasure, the privilege by @being-luminous (M, 20k, complete)
Setting: Canon Divergence – Book 6 Premise: If Voldemort is doused with Amortentia keyed to Harry, and starts sending Harry bizarre and gruesome courting gifts, like the bodies of the Dursleys.  Why I rec it: Breathtaking prose! Voldemort somehow ends up more terrifying when he’s trying to woo Harry than when he’s trying to kill him. Every single sentence had me on the edge of my seat, as Voldemort’s ‘gifts’ become more elaborate and devastatingly dramatic, until Harry basically has no choice but to respond to his overtures. The ending is incredibly clever in how it parallels certain plot elements of book 6, with an added Harrymort twist.
The Untouchable by @treacleteacups (M, 75k, complete)
Setting: Canon Rewrite (Books 1-7) Premise: If Harry starts out his first year a little bit more suspicious and a little less wide-eyed and guileless, and subsequently gets sorted into Slytherin. He has many of the same encounters with Voldemort along the way as he does in canon, but his interactions with Voldemort will end up leading him down quite a different path. Why I rec it: A snappy, fast-paced full canon rewrite that still manages to fit in all the essential Tomarrymort plot points, between Horcruxes and Hallows and the major events of books 1-7, in a compact 75k words that doesn’t at all feel rushed. It’s a delightful journey following Harry’s character evolution from an overlooked, peculiar child who relies on wishy-washy wish magic to a confident (and still endearingly peculiar) young man who can challenge and hold his own against the great Lord Voldemort. Voldemort’s obsession with Harry deepens with every encounter that they have, as he finds ways to continually insinuate himself in Harry’s life and his mind and his dreams.

A guide to NPD for anyone who doesn't understand it!
What is NPD?
NPD, or narcissistic personality disorder, is a mental illness in the cluster B personality disorder category.
NPD usually stems from childhood abuse or other unhealthy childhood situations. In my case, abuse.
What are the symptoms?
Symptoms of NPD include an unstable sense of self, prioritizing yourself, having unstable relationships, having low/no empathy, and depression/self hatred.
These can be improved upon, but disordered thoughts will likely remain for most.
Can pwNPD have healthy relationships?
Yes, with effort and work. Plenty can have healthy and successful relationships. (like me, for example, in a loving relationship with my boyfriend)
We have a to be a bit more aware of how we treat others, but it helps when both the person with NPD and the partner set boundaries with each other. With communication, we can be great partners.
And yes, we can feel love and care about our partner(s). Empathy ≠ love. Empathy ≠ compassion.
Why does the term "Narcissistic abuse" harm pwNPD?
Because of the name, anything said about "narcissists" is also associated with us, even if you weren't talking about NPD. If you were, that's just blatant ableism.
Many of also call ourselves narcissists either just as a descriptor or to reclaim it.
Other terms like emotional abuse, gaslighting, and plenty others describe the same thing without ableist roots. Please, speak out about your abuse, but avoid using ableist terms.
But my therapist/psychiatrist uses the term "narcissistic abuse," how can it be ableist?
Sadly, ableism isn't that uncommon from medical professionals. Plenty use terms like "narcissistic abuse" and other ableist terms.
Why not just advocate to change the name of NPD?
Even if the name changed, it would still be ableist. We have another cluster B disorder that got a name change that we can look to for example of what happens.
You used to be able to be clinically diagnosed as a "psychopath," which has since been changed to ASPD. However, people still use the terms "psychopath" and "sociopath" to refer to ASPD. All the stigma around those words still applies to them.
I imagine similar would happen if we changed the name of NPD. It wouldn't matter, we'd still be called narcissists. And the term would still be ableist because it would still hurt us.

The villa of Commandant Höss: a "paradise" which shared a wall with Auschwitz.
ARCHITECTURE OF GENOCIDE: THE ZONE OF INTEREST (2023)
Before I saw this film, I'd assumed that it would illustrate the way architecture can be used to facilitate denial or self-deception. Like PARASITE (2019), in which one - in that case wholly fictional - family creates a lavish domestic retreat from which they can't see the overcrowding, poverty and suffering that surrounds them. But although Hedwig Höss speaks of planting vines to cover the wall they share with Auschwitz, there's no pretending this neighbour isn't there. The Höss's live in a pristine 1937 villa, with a manicured garden where they have parties and their children swim in a pool, and this juxtaposition is chilling. But they can still see the chimneys, and hear the screams, and nobody is denying what's next door.
This is one of the most horrifying movies I've seen, and that's due to the banality of the domestic scenes. We aren't watching a stereotypically deranged mass murderer, or even a psychopathic commandant at work inside the camp. Instead we see a comfortable house, a beautiful garden, two parents who love one another and their children. And who've somehow been able to assimilate the fact that millions are being murdered behind their garden wall.
The film is based loosely on a novel, but also on research into the lives of the real Höss's. A replica was built of their villa and garden, only metres from where the real home still stands. It's suggested that the real Rudolf and Hedwig considered themselves homesteaders, reclaiming rural territory for the 'master race', as was the Nazi ideal. In the film, Hedwig repeatedly emphasises the role of building and grounds as a status symbol. Their villa had been taken from its Polish owners and architecturally altered to fit the Höss's image. Most of the items inside would have been plundered from Jewish homes, and others, such as stools, and the wheelbarrow full of smaller seized items, would have been custom-made by prisoners. This isnt a home that is genteel in spite of the camp next door. On the contrary, everything about it, down to the fur coat on Hedwig's back, exists as a result of persecution and genocide.
The Zone was an exclusion area of over 40 sq. km around the camp, created after Poles and Jews were expelled from nearby villages. It's jarring how idyllic it appears in the film, with meadows, birdsong, a gently babbling river. While obviously not as horrifying as human apathy, the indifference of a place to the evil it houses is disconcerting, especially if you're in a profession like architecture or urban design, where places are thought to be somehow expressive of what occurs within them. We do see the horror occasionally seep beyond camp walls - a practiced scramble to leave sun loungers as crematoria smoke seeps into the garden, a wash of ash infiltrating the picturesque river.
It's likely that the filmmakers were using the extreme example of this family to remind us of our own ability to become apathetic and desensitised to the suffering of strangers, particularly when we feel our personal safety and comfort may be threatened. (Current campaigns to essentially criminalise poverty in the form of homelessness in certain cities, come to mind). Obviously the murder of millions is an evil on a completely different scale, and I have to believe that 99% of us wouldnt be capable of the Höss's actions, but it's a chilling and worthwhile reminder nonetheless.

short intro:
my name is Omen or Mourn, i’m 20 years old and i use it/it’s pronouns.
i am also a metalhead.
i have been seeing mental health professionals on and off since i was a child. i am diagnosed with a plethora of mental illnesses, however since this page will be predominantly about cluster B Personality Disorders, i will only be informing you of my diagnosis of NPD, ASPD and BPD.
i also have a score of 38 on a PCL-R test, therefore i do reclaim the term ‘psychopath’.
i may briefly mention my other diagnosis’s, but since that’s not the focus of this blog i don’t see the point in mentioning them on a pinned post.
if you believe in narc abuse dni.
i fit a lot of ASPD and NPD stereotypes (not the ableist ones), i will not tolerate anyone giving me shit for this. i do not care what you think about my disorders.
be respectful,
this is a cluster B account, no ableism is welcome here.

the cod fandom has a serious issue w saneism
I'm genuinely not joking. so many of you fuckers are guilty of being absolutely abhorrent towards people with personality, schizospec, psychotic, dissociative and trauma disorders and you need to stop before you genuinely harm someone. no, you're not "cute" for it - you're an ableist, nasty little cunt for it.
so, let's go through it a bit; I'm not gonna go in-depth, bc ik some of you lot won't take criticism w/o treating it as a personal attack, and ik a LOT of you don't actually give a shit abt hurting people either. but I'm gonna quickly cover some things that need addressing.
First and foremost: "delulu".
"delulu" is a term that's been shortened from "delusional" to essentially mean "I have a thought/opinion that few others have".
which isn't the correct way to actually use this term whatsoever; according to the correct definition, a delusion is stated to be "A delusion is a strongly-held or fixed false belief that conflicts with reality.", and an example of that would be (for example) if someone believed that their behaviour, thoughts and emotions were being controlled by the government or aliens. THAT is a delusion.
"Soap isn't dead uwu" is not. by using the word "delusion" colloquially and by using "delulu", you are minimising and misusing a term used solely meant for usage within the mental health field. it's not that hard to say "I have the opinion that-" or "I think that-", because what you're experiencing isn't a delusion. it's an opinion.
Secondly: "psychopath/sociopath".
"psychopath" and "sociopath" are widely misused and derogatory terms used often towards people with ASPD to portray them as violent, evil, etc. and within the cod fandom is often used as a derogatory term for villains like Makarov and Shepherd and Graves.
the terms themselves are wildly outdated and no longer used within the mental health field due to their derogatory and untrue definitions; "psychopath" and "sociopath" can ONLY be used by people with ASPD and other such disorders, otherwise, it does count as a slur.
if you cannot reclaim it, you cannot use it.
otherwise, you're only pushing and furthering stigmatisation and stereotypes that render it HARDER for people to seek help and support for their mental health.
Third: "schizo".
"schizo" is a fucking slur. end of. it is a slur against people with schizospec disorders. it's a slur, stop using it.
it's not cute and it isn't funny; the word is a slur, and if you cannot reclaim it then why are you using it if not to treat schizospec people as a fucking joke?
why is our mental health a joke to you when you would kick off if someone did the same to anxiety, or depression?
why is it okay to treat one disorder as a joke, why is it okay to treat schizospec people as if we're second class citizens?
Fourth: "psycho".
the same as above, "psycho" is a fucking slur. stop using it.
the word has a long, long history of being used in a derogatory, offensive and bigoted manner in order to portray someone as being violent, evil or otherwise terrible - "he's such a psycho!", "she's acting psycho!" - and yet, the cod fandom throws it around as if it means nothing despite the fact that one quick look will show that "psycho" is a slur and is as bad as calling someone a "faggot" as a slur.
Fifth: the treatment of Nikto
in recent weeks, Nikto has become sort of the "new" König - he's an object of desire and attraction, which... Sure, whatever.
but Nikto canonically has dissociative identity disorder, a mental health issue that is largely misunderstood and mistreated massively.
the fandom treats Nikto two ways: either his mental illness boils down to "uwu soft baby" disease, or it doesn't exist at all.
that is NOT how dissociative identity disorder works; by treating Nikto as if he's some completely innocent, infantilised, glamourised depiction of dissociative identity disorder, you are further perpetuating that it is NOT a serious disorder and it is NOT something to take seriously.
furthermore, by acting as if his mental health disorder doesn't exist AT ALL, you are also furthering that a character CANNOT be desirable, loved and attractive if he has any kind of mental health disorder.
how would you like it if someone treated anxiety or depression that way?
how would you feel if someone erased depression to make you an object of desire, instead of treating it with respect and decency?
it's not nice, is it?
so why do it at all?
conclusion
the cod fandom has a massive, massive issue with saneism and ableism, and it needs to stop because all you're doing is being shitty and bigoted towards marginalised people to the point where even something that's supposed to be FUN can't even be that anymore because people with these disorders have to CONSTANTLY be on guard and CONSTANTLY have to deal with stigmatisation and demonisation to the point where no one can be trusted outside of ourselves.
so stop it, have some fucking courtesy for your fellow man and have some respect and decency for once in your lives.
yes, you can reblog, but don't fucking derail.

Thinking about River affectionately calling the Doctor her “madman in a box” only after he's called her his “bespoke psychopath,” and vice versa. They each were called these words by the other before ever using them to describe the other.
Thinking about the way they defy reality for each other. How modern psychiatry elevates objective reality to gatekeep full participation in society, yet they shatter objective reality with love — “I can’t let you die without knowing that you are loved.” and “You are always here to me and I always listen and I can always see you.”
Thinking about “What's the mad fool talking about now?” and how Gallifrey ostracizes those labelled mad, going so far as to see it as failure in children. Thinking about “A child is not a weapon!” “Give us time.” and how Kovarian equates psychopath with weapon as a tool of dehumanization and control.
Thinking about the way the psychiatric-industrial complex inflicts violence upon those who deviate from psychosocial norms. How their relationship was born in violence, but of madness — not madness in a post-Enlightenment framework of opposition to Reason, but madness as radical compassion that doesn’t demand so-called rationality — “Every time you've asked, I have been there.”
Thinking about how neither of them chose “psychopath” or “madman,” but they both own those words as instruments in their own agency.

Here’s some positivity for systems with antisocial personality disorder (ASPD)!
ASPD is a heavily stigmatized, often demonized mental illness that affects many people. Folks with ASPD may find it challenging or frustrating to exist in a society which is quick to dismiss or lash out at them. However, people with ASPD are just as deserving of kindness and support as anyone else! So here’s to all the systems with ASPD!
💕 Shoutout to systems who often deal with violent thoughts or bouts of physical aggression!
🌼 Shoutout to systems who are regularly described as reckless or impulsive!
💗 Shoutout to systems who are pathological liars, or who lie about big or small things!
⭐️ Shoutout to systems who struggle with taking care of themselves and keeping themselves safe!
🌺 Shoutout to headmates who are symptom holders for certain ASPD traits!
💛 Shoutout to systems who have reclaimed “psychopath” and/or “sociopath” labels for themselves!
🎀 Shoutout to systems who have trouble learning from past mistakes or making positive changes in their lives!
🌻 Shoutout to systems who can’t feel emotions like guilt or remorse!
💞 Shoutout to systems who do their best to treat others with respect, even if they don’t feel empathy or kindness towards them!
✨ Shoutout to systems who are in treatment for their ASPD, and to those who don’t want or need any sort of treatment in order to live their best lives!
🌷 Shoutout to systems who are often called callous, rude, mean, or abrasive by others in their lives!
🌟 Shoutout to systems who are tired of being hated, mistreated, or demonized for a personality disorder that’s outside of their control!
💘 Shoutout to systems who have recently been diagnosed with ASPD, are pursuing a diagnosis, were diagnosed young, or have self-diagnosed!
Living with ASPD does NOT mean you are any less important or valued than any other member of your community. In fact, our spaces are made brighter, more beautiful, and more diverse thanks to your presence here! Know that you are deserving of kindness, love, and respect just the way you are, and we want to support and uplift you however we can!
We hope that your future is filled with positive things - that your dreams and ambitions will be realized and that you will find yourself surrounded by people who care about you, regardless of what you can offer in return. Remember that having a personality disorder does not make you a bad person, and you will always be a cherished and integral part of the plural community! Thanks so much for reading, and have a lovely day!

If you haven't figured it out from my myriad of reblogs and posts, I have the following thoughts:
- PD peeps are awesome and deserve love. YES, that means cluster B, as well! YES, even us ASPD and our NPD buddies.
- Narc abuse does not exist. That's like me calling that one time my mom threatened me with a frying pan "Cookware abuse."
- Psychopath and Sociopath are NOT accurate diagnostic lingo anymore. All my ASPD buddies (and my ASPD self) have the right to reclaim them, but they are not medical terms!
- DID systems are not going to appear like textbook/media in many, many cases. This does not mean you should fake claim us!
- Endo systems are no skin off my nose; I think it's different than medical DID, but I'm not an authority who can prove without reasonable doubt that ONLY traumagenics can be plural.
- Physical and mental health are often related, but it is never cool to derail a post for one or the other with whataboutism.
- Whataboutism in general tends to irritate the crap out of me, ngl.
- Listen to your marginalized friends! And enemies! Neutral folks! Take in perspectives, let marginalized folks speak for their own experiences, and don't tout one voice as being the spokesperson for all XYZ group. Make your own opinions using critical thinking!
- All posts, even this one, should be taken with a grain of salt. Nuance is complex and difficult, but black and white thinking can be very dangerous.
- I hate "reblog or you're a terrible person!!!" Posts. They fuck with my Moral OCD badly, and make me less likely to reblog, even if I agree with the rest of the message.
- Cats are very cute and very soft and very lovely.
- Horses were a drunken creation, abandoned by any godly pantheon eons ago.
- Pineapple on pizza is neither amazing, nor awful.

(Vent ig? Just depressing tbh)
NPD culture is knowing we can't reclaim narcissist from society, we can't stop people from using it. Even understanding why that word is the best fit for what they're trying to describe, but still be so fucking furious that they are using it. That they don't understand when they say narcissist in front of a pwNPD that they're saying it in front of someone who has likely been harassed, told to kys, been called an abusive piece of shit by random people without even knowing them. And not even being able to tell them that using that word is wrong. Cause by the definition it's not, by definition they are describing that person, that trait, correctly. Thats just what the definition is. But no one will listen to the narc trying to explain why it's correct, but still hurtful. No one cares and no one wants to hear it. Knowing that society will never care about NPD, or any personality disorder for that matter. Not because they can't understand it, not because they can't learn, but because they don't want to. They don't want to care about us, because all personality disorders will ever be seen as is crazy, overreacting, abusive, narcissistic, psychopaths. The only people who care are the people with the disorders. And even then that's not a guarantee.
-🫐
