It’s a great day for Sport!!! Shout to all that support the games we love like Official/Runner/Advocate ! @aysharuns _____ repost• @aysharuns 💜 It’s always a beautiful day to give back to the sport! 💜 Motto of the day: ✨HAVE FUN AND GET IT DONE!✨ I am a firm believer that if you no longer love what you do, you are no longer bringing joy with you. That is energy you DO NOT NEED. Take a break, refresh, reframe and reclaim your joy. This doesn’t mean that every practice or race is going to be amazing, or feel awesome. (In fact, it can be quite the opposite if you’re working hard and building yourself up to surpass challenges!) But sometimes our nerves can keep us from simply being in the moment and enjoying every step. Nerves are a good thing! It means you care. But one way to deal with nerves is to remove the fear of failure. There is a place for everyone in XCTF. Every BODY can join - it’s the most inclusive sport there is. 🚨THE RACEWALK IS SO IMPORTANT! 🚨 There is nothing I love more than sharing a passion, the rules, the regulations, the form, and the newfound joy of anyone learning how to racewalk - it is the most underrated discipline of #TrackNation and deserves far more respect than it gets! (It also has the most amount of coordinated paperwork with multiple judges of any event!🙈) So proud of Caterina and Gab doing something they’ve never done before and their teammates who cheered them on like rockstars 🌟 I’ve watched quite a few racewalkers and I’ve never seen anyone smile, laugh and love every step as much as Caterina did yesterday! Bring your heart and soul for the joy every. Single. Time. 💯 By the way thank you to the athlete who gave this #HandModel some sunscreen on day 1! We are human, we are always learning how to better prepare, and I’ll do a post about how we all need to worry about skin cancer another day :) #ElevateHealth And to all the #MuslimRunners out there this week, fully covered in the heat: I see you. I know how it feels. I hope my pronouncing your names properly gave you grace. Eid Mubarak :) #TrackNation #racewalk #GiveItBack https://www.instagram.com/p/CeHkzPFLYmF/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

in case you've missed it, and I'm assuming most of you have, we're having a presidential election here in Finland. First round is currently going on, so I thought I'd give you a quick run down of our candidates!
(in alphabetical order, party in parentheses)
Mika Aaltola (independent): Has mainly worked in academia and apparently has experience in international politics, which is good for the job. I honestly know next to nothing about this dude, but he seems to positively radiate Just Some Guy energy. What would be interesting about him winning: I have no idea. Chances of winning: Ehhh - but it wouldn't be the first time we get a president from outside the daily politics.
Li Andersson (Left Alliance): current leader of the Left Alliance, former Minister of Education. What most people seem to say about her: "she's clearly the best choice, but has no chance of winning so I won't be voting for her." What would be interesting about her winning: first Left Alliance president Chances of winning: Unfortunately slim. Left Alliance is a small party and half of the country still seems to think they're Evil Communists.
Sari Essayah (Christian Democrats): she's also the leader of her party. Most known for being a former racewalker and religious. What would be interesting about her winning: How the hell did it happen??? Chances of winning: zero.
Pekka Haavisto (Green League): Former Minister of the Environment, International Development, and Foreign Affairs (three different terms, not all at once). He was born in 1958 and hasn't done much beyond politics. He's been in the presidential race twice already too, both times losing to our current president, Sauli Niinistö. What would be interesting about him winning: first gay president. Chances of winning: he made it to the final round twice already, so maybe third time's a charm? He has been polling first this time around.
Jussi Halla-aho (Finns Party): a prominent rightwing blogger, a Slavic linguist by education, and the current Speaker of the Parliament. He's "immigration critical" in the same vein "gender criticals" tend to be. He's is considered something of an intellectual in the rightwing circles despite having the vibes of an anthropomorphic raisin, and has amassed a cult following - who literally call him Mestari (master, but in Finnish the vibes are more a master of a trade and not some dude who spanks you in the bedroom. What would be interesting about him winning: finding out if I can immigrate to Denmark. Chances of winning: none if I can help it, but like I said, he does have a very solid fanbase.
Hjallis Harkimo (Movement Now): best known for being the owner of an ice-hockey team or something. His real name is Harry and for some reason he has been elected into the parliament twice. I assume it's the famous allure of a "successful businessman" or because he's something of a celebrity? Who knows. What would be interesting about him winning: How did it happen? Chances of winning: slim.
Olli Rehn (Centre Party): Served as the Minister of Economic Affairs for like a year under our most fuck-witted prime minister in recent history. Not much else to say about it. Somehow seems older than Pekka Haavisto tho he's actually younger. What would be interesting about him winning: absolutely nothing. He's so dull it's almost offensive. Chances of winning: who knows? Maybe he'll be a dark horse if all other candidates fall flat.
Alexander Stubb (National Coalition Party): Former Prime Minister, and former Minister of Finance. He's ehhhhhh not the worst possible option, honestly, and is on the more liberal side of the Rich Getting Richer party. What would be interesting about him winning: how will he be different from our current (National Coalition Party) president, I guess Chances of winning: last I checked, he was polling second, so I guess it's a possibility?
Jutta Urpilainen (Social Democratic Party): Former Minister of Finance. Social Democrats are one of the biggest parties we have, but they took a while deciding on who to pick. She's alright. Social Democrats are usually fine, and she'a long term Social Democrat. What would be interesting about her winning: uhh... possibly the first president to have released a Christmas album? Chances of winning: I just don't think she's that popular, to be honest. But she might make it into top three at least, like I said, it's one of the biggest parties behind her.

How would you think your life would have changed if you weren't disqualified and actually became the racewalking champion of Canada(of Quebec? I'm sorry if I'm wrong here)
I would have a high school track-&-field trophy on my wall, or something to that effect. Other than that? Can't imagine much else being different.

National Walking Day
National Walking Day is every year on the first Wednesday in April and takes place on April 3 this year. National Walking Day is exactly as it sounds — a day to celebrate the easiest way to be the healthiest version of you. Walking for thirty to sixty minutes per day may sound like it isn’t much, but studies have shown that it can drastically improve your health and even help prevent ailments such as type II diabetes, cancer, and heart disease.
When is National Walking Day 2024?
Reap the benefits of walking and make it a part of your lifestyle on National Walking Day on April 3.
History of National Walking Day
Walking has always been a part of being human. Many archaeologists have found that even when humans were nomadic tribes, we would often walk great distances to stalk our prey (think Wooly Mammoths) and wait for them to sleep before pouncing. Walking is, essentially, what humans are physically we best at. We’re the slowest runners, the worst swimmers, and we can’t even fly without a big jet engine. Walking is the humans bread and butter.
Maybe that’s why during the Victorian era there was a little fad called pedestrianism, where walking became one of the major spectator sports in America and Europe until baseball usurped it. But individuals would wager massive bets over whether walkers could make it marathon distances and under what time. There’s a reason why racewalking is an Olympic sport, after all.
Whether it’s John Muir’s spiritual journeys through the woods; pilgrimages to Mecca; or just a casual stroll through your local park, walking has always held a close, dear place in the hearts of humans. It’s no wonder that there are so many health benefits associated with it and also why National Move More Month and National Walking Day were created promote this fantastic and surprisingly easy pastime.

"Okay, before you walk inside, what I need you to understand is that I really didn't have a choice. I mean, it was a matter of life and death." Bérenger had walked around the side of the Los Angeles bungalow at Olympic racewalker speeds. His hands and chest were sticky with dirt and sweat as he held up his palms in surrender. The man's bright blue eyes looked to Theodore with apology and worry. "I know you're meant to come home and relax and that I'm mean to leave work at work, but..."
The emotion in his voice only made his French accent all the more prominent as Bérenger rinsed his hands on the garden hose and turned the valved to shut it off. Shaking off his wet hands, Bér closed the remaining distance toward Theodore, grateful that their home afforded enough privacy for no one to see him wrapping his arms around his boyfriend. "I love you." Sure, a part of him hoped the PDA would keep him off the couch, but as they stepped inside and the entire kitchen table was covered in satin pothos plants a tinge of guilt covered his features. Bér thumbed the leaves of the saddest one in the center. "He's just been so unhappy with the light and I couldn't just leave him there again on my days off. I have to make him a new spot at the nursery and he couldn't just spend days all alone. I promise, I'll only keep him here until he's better." None of this, however, explained why he'd come around the yard shirtless, sweaty, and covered in dirt.

50 years ago, on September 5-6, 1972, 11 Israelis were killed in an attack known as the Munich Massacre. During the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, members of a Palestinian terrorist group stormed the Olympic Village, killing 2 members of the Israeli delegation, and taking 9 more hostage.
One of the athletes present that day was runner and racewalker Shaul Ladany who, along with 5 others, was able to escape from their apartment. Born in Belgrade, Yugoslavia in 1936, Ladany fled to Budapest with his family after their home was bombed by the Luftwaffe in 1941. His parents tried to hide him in a monastery, but they were captured and sent from the Budapest ghetto to the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in 1944. Ladany spent 6 months there before being rescued on a train to Switzerland.
He immigrated to Israel in 1948 and went on to become a world champion, world record holder, two-time Olympian, and a renowned professor of industrial engineering. Today, Ladany is still an active racer, participating in marathons and completed the Maccabiah Fun Run in July. The 86 year old visits the graves of his Israeli teammates in Tel Aviv every year on September 6th.
May the memories of the 11 Israelis killed in the Munich Massacre - David Berger, Ze’ev Friedman, Yossef Gutfreund, Eliezer Halfin, Yossef Romano, Amitzur Shapira, Kehat Shorr, Mark Slavin, Andre Spitzer, Yakov Springer, Moshe Weinberg - forever be a blessing.

On May 8th 1854 Captain Robert Barclay Allardice died.
This is a great wee story about a very remarkable man, Robert Barclay Allardice has been called The Father of Pedestrianisma strange title, but when you learn his story you will maybe understand it better.
He was born in August 1777 at Ury House just outside Stonehaven Aberdeenshire to a family of athletes that in the past were practicing bull wrestling, carried flour sacks in their teeth, and uprooted trees with their bare hands. Robert Barclay Allardice was schooled in England and attended Cambridge University where he often gambled on the performances of other men, but also would often back himself to perform incredibly demanding physical challenges.
He took part in a number of bizarre pedestrian contests. In 1800 he backed himself to accomplish 90 miles within 21 hours, but he failed due to heavy rain and mostly because he caught a cold. He lost a thousand guineas, but didn’t give up and increased the stake to 2,000 guineas, and lost again. He backed himself again to the tune of 5000 guineas to perform the same feat and finally won with an hour to spare.
He won his first competition when he walked for 110 miles in 19 hours and 27 minutes. He also walked 90 miles in 20 hours and 22 minutes, the same year. In 1802 he walked 64 miles in 10 hours and in 1805, between breakfast and dinner, he walked 72 miles.
Among his many bizarre pedestrian contests, there was one when he walked 110 miles over bad roads in 19 hours and another in 1808 when he walked 130 miles without any sleep for two nights.
However, he made his epic walk at Newmarket in 1809 when he walked a mile in each of the 1000 consecutive hours. This meant that he was supposed to walk a mile per hour, every hour, for 42 days and nights. It all started on June 1st, 1809, and was completed on July 12th.
He walked his first mile in 14 minutes and 54 seconds and his time averaged 21 minutes and 4 seconds by the last week. During this period of 42 days and nights over 10,000 people watched the event. He completed the feat on 12th July in front of an enormous crowd that gathered to cheer him.
It is said that during this period he lost around 15kg, but didn’t regret since he won a large purse for his efforts.
During the Napoleonic War, he was commissioned in the army where he adopted the name, Captain Barclay. In 1809 he served as aide-de-camp to the Marquess of Huntly on the ill-fated Walcheren campaign, starting out just 5 days after the completion of the 1000-mile feat.
He was also interested in boxing and became trainer and sponsor of Tom Cribb, the bare knuckles Champion of the World in 1807 and 1809.
Im May 1854 Captain Barclay, the father of pedestrianism, a precursor to racewalking, was kicked by a horse in and died several days later from paralysis..
