Curious about your tags on the dog vocalizations post! Since dogs don’t sweat and panting is a natural but somewhat embarrassing behavior, would you say that items like hand fans are particularly popular to help cool down? Maybe especially in hotter areas or in certain social circles where it would be particularly embarrassing or even hard to hold an important conversation if the heat is making someone pant too much?
I thought about this earlier and I believe so! I'm under the impression that hand fans were fashionable in 16th-17th century Europe so it's not even something I have to add just for the dogs.

I'm still so amazed at how far medicine has come for trans people... being able to take hormones and get surgeries that are life-saving and life-affirming are genuinely such amazing feats and I wish more people understood that. Like, even if those aspects of transition do not appeal to every trans person, it is still so important to recognize just how important it is that trans people have options.
If love were a language, it would be science.

HERMIT A DAY MAY - DAY 6
iJevin x Slime Rancher
For iJevin I picked the video game Slime Rancher! Specifically, I drew Jevin in the style of the art in the Slimepedia from Slime Rancher.
This one was a challenge because the slimes from the Slimepedia are just stylized blobs, so I had to take the design choices from that and imagine how it would translate to a humanoid character.
I chose this for Jevin because, well, slime, but also because Slime Rancher is a very cute, cozy game and I thought that aligned well with his build for this season. The game is like a cottage core farming sim but on another planet and with little slime creatures instead of farm animals.
If you would like to learn more about Slime Rancher and see my style references, please keep reading below the cut!
(And also, keep up the donations to Gamer's Outreach! If we get to $300, belmarzi will do a 20secs of animatic!)
Slime Rancher is one of those games you play when you just want to do something that makes you smile. It is an incredibly cute farming sim where you are tasked with catching, caring for, and protecting a collection of adorable slime creatures.
As you progress in the game, you unlock new areas and meet new slimes, which are added to your in-game encyclopedia called the Slimepedia. The art in this encyclopedia is so charming that I decided to base Jevin on that instead on how the slimes appear in the game. Plus, I wanted to avoid doing 3D characters.
When you feed the slimes, they produce colorful gems called plorts (which are 100% just slime poop) that you can sell in order to buy upgrades to expand your farm and collect new slimes.
I could play this game for hours and hours. From the adorable aesthetics and charming lore to the relaxing gameplay and soundtrack, Slime Rancher is just joyful through and through.

Slime Rancher also has human characters - I used Ogden here as the main reference for Jevin's shape

My fav thing about TAZ is that any aspect out of context sounds fucking bonkers.
Like, in the balance finale there's a scene in which Garfield (who is very specifically never described visually bc most people imagine him as like. The Lasagna Cat. Who in this universe is the most powerful warlock in the realm and also has a hobby of cloning people, which is great for the one character that got forced into haunting a mannequin) is summoned by an alien spaceship that runs on the power of friendship so he could beat up some flashing balls. In D&D.
And that was just. Such a normal scene in the narrative. No one blinked an eye. I would like to bow down to Griffins clear unmatched talent for making me feel such big emotions over ridiculous shit like a goddamned umbrella or a regular ass pair of jeans or the idea of a taco recipe.

What would poppet be like if they were a playtime co toy?
The Silly!! Poppet would probably be something of a security protocol! Leading children to and from the orphanage, making sure no one sees something they shouldn’t, and generally keeping the other toys in check. Brainwashed to hell, this one!
I imagine they were made when Poppet’s Traveling Circus was first airing, and Playtime Co. partnered with Charles’ studio to make plushies of some of the characters! Some of the orphans probably saw one, or caught an episode on the tv, and they loved it enough for the company to add our favorite jester to the Bigger Bodies Initiative. Poppet knows every knook and cranny of the factory, and could often be found skipping through the halls, chatting away with higher up employees or other toys.
Close ups!
