Dana Claxton received this year’s Audain Prize, one of Canada’s most coveted arts awards, during a ceremony on Monday (25 September). The C$100,000 ($74,000) cash prize honouring distinguished British Columbia-based artists was announced at a luncheon at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver.
When Reid Shier, executive director of the Polygon Gallery in North Vancouver, awarded the prize on behalf of the jury, he praised Claxton’s “multilayered” practice. He described the photography in her series and book Paris, June Fourth, Fifth, & Sixth, Two Thousand & Six as being “as much [Jack] Kerouac as [Eugène] Atget”—and spoke of her “landmark” work as a First Nations woman—a group who are “systemically denied a place in the art world.”
Claxton, a Vancouver-based artist whose work spans film, photography, video and multi-channel installation, is a member of the Wood Mountain Lakota First Nations located in Southwest Saskatchewan. Her practice investigates Indigenous beauty, the body, the socio-political and the spiritual and has been widely exhibited across Canada and internationally. She is also a professor at the University of British Columbia (UBC) and head of its department of art history, visual art and theory. [...]

Condensed Milk - A Dirty Money Comic pt 15
[part 1] [part 2] [part 3] [part 4] [part 5] [part 6] [part 7] [part 8] [part 9] [part 10] epilogue: [ part 11 ] [ part 12 ] [ part 13 ] [part 14] [ x ]

apart from this being THE WORST THING i have ever drawn so far (the only context for which is this). I've got no notes so here's something @quatschmachen wrote instead:
I (F, 255) have a friend (M, 414) who has a terrible boyfriend (M, 119), call him Jerk. They broke up three years ago, and I was so happy that this terrible relationship was over... or so I thought.
I decided to come visit my friend, only to find Jerk is there! I have spent the past 3 years shit talking Jerk and affirming to my friend that breaking up was the right decision.
Here is the part where I may have been the asshole. Jerk was serving me tea and pretending to be nice, when I went ahead and vented to him about why he was here and what he was doing. I did not hold back, but honestly, I wanted to make sure my friend wasn't somehow being blackmailed. Me and Jerk ended up in a big fight, and my friend had to separate us. My friend assured me Jerk had apologized but then admitted the words "I'm sorry" did not even occur.
Afterwards I ended up accidentally on purpose breaking Jerk's collar bone... but he deserved it after insulting a literary classic.
AITA?
---
User987: hold up, the age gap his how much?! problematic from the start. Are you sure your friend isn't taking advantage of the other person?
User69;): This isn't your relationship. I understand being concerned for your friend, but getting into a physical altercation is too much. ESH

I’ve been watching some Dreamtalia gameplay stuff, and even though I don’t like some of the stuff in there, (mainly some of the dialogue), I do like the concept.
So here are some drawings of NWT, and Alberta with the dream demon (I’m not gonna try to spell it because of autocorrect) taking the form of their siblings, and said fake siblings are being a little too chipper!
The overcoat is based off of a real overcoat that was also on display at the RCMP Heritage Centre.

Did you know that Alberta and Saskatchewan were once originally going to be one province named Buffalo?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
for the purposes of this ask we are ignoring that Buffalo has become a bit of a buzzword for right wing western separatist parties :T; I wouldn't say it was "originally" going to be a combined province, it was just an idea that the wealthy and powerful ranchers across the southern districts really liked because it would help fuel their dream of turning the entire thing into grazing land for cattle.
Maddy did originally live in the district of Assiniboia and was sort of added to Alberta at the last minute, which is why she wasn't paying any attention to the battle to become capital of Alberta at all. Nowadays, the city of Lloydminster is the "closest" to Saskatchewan by virtue of literally being the only city in the country to span two provinces. There is a mural there to celebrate the 2005 centennial of the two provinces called Buffalo Twins.
We may not live together (as central Canada was too afraid of our potential combined awesomeness... surely) but our neighbour to the east is always borrowing our stuff anyways. Like our tendency towards austerity cuts, or Edmonton's entire lacrosse team >:'T tsk!

So, to finally post something for Indigenous history month, I made a Cutesy comic with Nanook and Owen.
So the name that the province of Saskatchewan goes by, is a shortened and modernized version of the original word of the Saskatchewan River, Kisiskatchewanisipi, which is Cree for ‘Swift-flowing river’.
Which was what most people called the river.
It is unknown (at least to modern peoples) as to the reason why Government did this when the District was formed in 1882.
****
Unfortunately not much is known for the origins of the names of the Provinces, and Territories. Some have more info than others.
