[cat] a few unshakeable thoughts on music

so ive been listening to music forever. since becoming self-aware lol

I aspire to fully break down everything I’ve felt/experienced/retained as a result of my music listening one day, but not today. these are just some thoughts for now that won’t leave.

I’ve always sought comfort, validation, and encouragement from the music I listen to. This has never changed to date. I’m not sure it will. Music at this point has a really well-defined role in my life. But, the type of comfort/validation/encouragement that music has provided to me has definitely changed with time. in a super interesting way too. I think it really demonstrates how my perception of the world has changed as I’ve “grown up”.

When I was a teenager I was pretty unimpressed w the world. Like everything sucks and is hard, why are all the adults pretending that life is fun and games, Imma make it out of here and show them and all my boring peers. So my music was really angry and kinda sad – it was comforting though, because it made me feel validated in my angst (other people are also moody and question the world!! so keep going)

Now that I’m more solidly into the journey of 20s, I’ve noticed that I don’t gravitate towards angst anthems as much, not because I’m boring now (I hope TT) but because I don’t need really need music to validate my feelings about world being terrible anymore. I’ve got plenty of proof and I know I’m right. I still love my old stuff, its just that now I seek out music that’s comforting because it validates the need in me to keep going despite how discouraging reality is.

anyway I say all of this but I’ll also give anything a listen, I may be an avid music listener but I am not and will never be a music snob. so send your recs we can trade!
