#shadow knights are literally undead

when i think about my headcanons for shadow knights, in my mind it's a lot of fun to emphasize the undead part of them, as well as how torturous the maturation process of a newly birthed shadow knight to a fully-realized one could be. the call is an idea i like to ruminate on as well.
laurance talks early on about how being a shadow knight effects his thinking. he hesitates less, and is more inclined to selfish, spiteful thought patterns. i like to think of this being the ebbing tide of the call carefully drawing in and out of the consciousness in increasingly powerful waves. it grows from tiny whispers in the back of a shadow knight's mind into a violent cacophany that boils beneath the skin with terrifying urgency to be let free the longer the knight rejects it.
as for the physical state of being a shadow knight, this is where the emphasis on the necrotic aspects i was talking about comes in. i take a lot of inspiration for my shadow knight headcanons from the novel "hell followed with us" by andrew joseph white. in that book the main character, benji, has been forcibly infected with a disease (referred to as "seraph", the book covers a lot of christian religious themes) that is slowly, over the course of weeks, turning him into a monster. it's essentially like his body is rotting into becoming something new, and the visceral, monstrous imagery and the way his slow evolution from boy to beast is described is very similar to how i picture becoming a shadow knight feels/looks.
here's some relevant excerpts from my copy of the novel for those who haven't read it. the highlighted lines are the parts most accurate to my headcanons of shadow knights (content warning for descriptions of gore):
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i kind of like the idea of shadow knights (like laurance) that didn't complete their transformation ritual and/or reject the call and stay in the overworld being punished by their own body with a slower, more agonizing transformation than if they simply accepted their new undeath and killed who they're supposed to in order to reach their full potential.
however it happens though, it's never pretty. a shadow knight's "true" form (when they activate their powers) reeks of sulfur and death, when they grow in size it sounds just as sickening as it looks, spasming limbs and ripping flesh with the deafening noise of crunching bone and tearing ligaments. smoke and something like ichor both pour from their nose and mouth. if irene is light, life, clear water, and cool, solid quartz and marble and gemstones then a servant of shad would, of course, embody the opposite. i suppose by that description you could also draw a comparison between shad/shadow knights and the desolation/the lightless flame from the magnus archives, if anybody is familiar with that show as well.
anyways im rambling, i just needed to word vomit all these ideas since i wanna talk more about my headcanons on here rather than just character analysis posts lmao

I wanna know what the calling feels like.
I can't remember if it was ever described in canon minecraft diaries but holy shit it is talked about so much, especially regarding Laurance.
I feel like there's definitely some sort of pain involved, whether it be emotional or physical. There's some need to kill the one you protect with your life, so pain is necessary, especially in Laurance's case.
He loves Aphmau so much, yet is forced to leave because HE. HAS. TO. KILL. HER.
I feel like it burns. I think Shadow Knights and fire are so related. Sasha was literally reborn from lava. I know that they are for the most part "undead," but look at Laurance. He never died. He was transformed in a different way. And Alexis (for the time that she was an SK).
I want to be able to sympathize with Laurance, and Sasha, and other Shadow Knights who haven't answered the calling. I want to know why Vincent went through with it.
I want to know more about Zenix, one of the youngest SK's we've met, and the kind of pressure it puts on a teen. The kind of headspace you have to be in to rationalize murder, especially when you're that young and impulsive.
I could literally talk about Shadow Knights for hours, they are such an intriguing part of Minecraft Diaries.

shadow knight lore
for my silly lil rewrite <3 and also my campaign lol
'shadow knight' is literally derived from 'knights of shad'
they are the results of Shad's "faulty" half-human relic, which originally was designed to replicate Avon's own power. Because she made his relic out of their child, the relic is half-human, which corrupted the power of the relic. Shad can create life like Avon does, but the life he creates is grim, and dreadful. A second wind to those who have already passed
Shadow knights no longer possess their mortal bodies. Instead, their essence/soul relies on the heat, ash, and brimstone to create a physical form
following up on the previous bullet, since shadow knights' forms are so reliant on their mind and soul, a shadow knight with a weak mental state will have a weak form
there are only 2 ways to kill a shadow knight: destroy the head, as that is where their essence resides, or weaken their mental states to make their forms more prone to damage
Shadow knights can regrow every part of their body, even regrowing new bodies from severed heads, however it can take anywhere from days to decades depending on how much there is to regrow
since they're already undead and don't technically have a living body, shadow knights do not need to eat, sleep, drink, or breath
in large part, shadow knights retain their mortal psyches - the longer they live, the more unstable they tend to become
Zenix, and other pre-war shadow knights, are less effected by this. they were created with genuine, kind intention, and are quite literally built different than the more recent war machines
A shadow knight who has completely mentally degraded and thus lost themselves are referred to as "husks" or "lost ones", and they essentially become thoughtless animals - they only know how to defend themselves

Rewrite Shadow Knights
FUn facts about the little killers!
I opposed the idea that shadow knights run super hot bc the nether is ALREADY hot. I say they run cold bc 1) running cold in a hot climate makes so much more sense and 2) they're undead. NO HEARTBEAT. NO BLOOD CIRCULATION. NOTHING CAN BE WARM! So they're constantly cold bc no circulation.
This means, however, that the nether is the perfect temperature for them to keep warm (so it's a reason they would want to stay ahaha), and they're freezing cold outside of the nether. They can get warm in the overworld by bundling up, hanging in the sun, being active, and touching warm stuff like fire or people or, you know, fresh blood!
Another fun fact is that I accidentally coded them to be so darn CUTEE. Not visually cute but I mean like they behave in a way that makes me wanna tuck them into bed and kiss them on the forehead: imagine lions or wolves play fighting, and that's the SHadow Knights. It's all good fun for them, they'll come in from behind and attack, taking each other to the ground and tasseling around.
SHadow knights typically have a pretty close bond between each other, a sense of camaraderie or kinship bc theyre the only ones who can like actually understand each other and what they're going through. It's pretty rare for shadow knights to turn against others, but it does happen occasionally.
Also they're born from anger! If they died as a human (or yknow humanoid) and super pissed off, they come back as a Shadow Knight thirsty for vengeance.
Adding to the anger thing, they're not only born from their own anger, but they're literally MADE OF ANGER. It wasn't intentional for them to turn out as aggressive as they are, it's just how they turned out to be because that's what their CREATOR is.
There's none of that "lord killing" stuff for immortality, you become immortal when you become a shadow knight. The only way to kill them is by breaking their heart (literally (but it acts as a metaphor.)) which is where their soul is protected. They die instantly.
For their shadow knight form, they get super massive and their fingers basically turn into obsidian, super sharp and more claws/talons than actual fingers. In their shadow knight form they also get magical armor and a giant sword. Another fancy quirk is that they have black scleras and red irises. Nothing really practical about that choice it just looks so cool.

Thanks for posting about Gaza, it’s nice to see people using their platforms to help. May I please have some Araphel/shadow lord angst ? 😉😉 Also thanks for the shadow knight angst.
First of all, I'm glad I was able to use my platform to help, even as small of a contribution as it is.
Second of all, I am always happy to deliver my musings about Araphel, the pathetic little man. Part of what I love about him is that I truly believe he was once a good person. In fact, I imagine that he was a rather good person until he got his relic, and even then, he couldn't have been terrible for that long, otherwise Irene wouldn't have put up with him.
I feel like this is the point where I should clarify that I literally forgot the entire plot point of all the other relic holders dying and reincarnating a bunch while Irene remained alive. In my brain they still do reincarnate, but not nearly as often, and the relics prolong their lives pretty significantly regardless. And I don't think Araphel ever reincarnated, I think he just persisted living far longer than Irene wanted to deal with and every time she saw him he was less and less of the man she once knew.
A man who, while still prone to his vices, was an ultimately kind person. A natural born leader who met Irene while she was traveling in search of other relic holders. He wasn't one at the time, but she did have her hands on the relic of the destroyer, one she was hesitant to give to anyone. She needed someone she could trust with this power. And despite a seemingly normal meeting between the leader of a small collective and some traveler, the two quickly became far more than strangers to one another. I see their relationship as one that happened hard and fast.
The world wasn't kind before the Divine Warriors. People already die all the time in Ru'aun after them, imagine how bad it was before magic was a widespread thing. The average life expectancy is lucky if you make it to thirty, and Araphel was already approaching that number. Thus they fell for one another, as if they'd always known each other, existing in one another's arms like it was all that mattered. For Irene, she had someone to truly confide in who would listen to her at her worst moments free of judgement. And for Araphel, it was like his arms were the arms the world was held in.
Irene was everything to him. She was everything in general. She was a healer in a broken world full of dying people, and out of everyone she could have chosen to be her lover, she chose him. A simple man with a big heart. She chose him. She bound the relic of the destroyer to him because she had seen nearly every emotion a man could display when she was with him, she knew he could be trusted. She knew he loved her and would fight by her side.
Araphel once wore his heart out on his sleeve. It was part of what drew Irene to him, a foolhardy man who doesn't know how not to express himself, in spite of the dangers and horrors of the world around him. She trusted him. And as their relationship fell apart, as things deteriorated due to Esmund being a bitch about things, due to dark magic pulling on his vices, and due to the destructive nature of his relic, she lost that trust. And yet, in spite of everything, he still trusted her. He anticipated the other warriors turning against him, but he didn't anticipate Irene helping their cause. He still trusted her.
These phrases are often heard in mutterings from his weakened state, or even in a Shadow Knight's calling if applicable. "I trusted her." "I loved her." "She was the world." "I trusted her." "She left me to die." "Did she even love me at all?"
Any time something like that is said in the mind of a Shadow Knight, ESPECIALLY A CERTAIN SOMEONE, it's very likely that Araphel is deliberately making these thoughts worse, fueling the fire of his undead puppets with his own malice. Irene was everything to him when they were young foolish lovers sharing blissful kisses in a field of flowers under the light of the sun, and Irene is still everything to him as he actively rots in the hell she threw him into.

Gotta scream about my DnD campaign for a minute. Vague spoilers for Dragonlance: Shadow of the Dragon Queen below.
So I normally have pretty strong ideas about my character’s backstories, and I don’t want to feel like I’m pawning off work on my DM, so I usually turn in a one page summary of my character’s experiences to that point, to the best of my knowledge. Most in-person long-term campaigns I’ve been in have been modules without a ton of wiggle room, so I haven’t tried to put much mystery or focus on my character’s past.
However.
One DM in my regular in-person friend DnD group offered to run the new Dragonlance campaign, starting this summer. I had a human polearm fighter concept that I’ve been toying with for years, and this felt like the perfect time to try her out.
Now, I knew she had battle related trauma, and I had a vague idea of her having been trapped behind enemy lines or captured or something. But I know nothing about Dragonlance. I read the lore chapters our DM sent, but wasn’t much there to dictate what sort of skirmishes and scrapes my knight would have been a part of.
So I brought it to my DM. I gave him what I thought the important emotional beats would have been. 1) Traumatizing 2) Handled badly by an authority figure 3) My character rose to the occasion and saved lives 4) She’s still ashamed and feels like a failure more than a hero.
What my DM gave me back was… not what I had pictured. There were ghosts and undead and possession, and I had envisioned something much more mundane, not so dramatic. But it absolutely filled every qualification I had sent. I figured maybe it was a story from one of the Dragonlance novels, and decided to embrace it, build more of my character around it.
I never figured it would come up in the campaign, except in the way I played my character.
Then, four or five sessions in, the ghosts from my character’s past rode by our party’s campsite on a rainy night.
And of course my character panicked and backstory came out to the party and it was a great, dramatic moment.
And I thought, wow, how cool of the DM to give my character that opportunity. That’s probably it.
Nope.
Last session, the main antagonist from my character’s backstory—the ghost that possessed her commander, that chased her over miles as she fled with a handful of other soldiers—came into the story in a big way.
Turns out, he’s a major enemy NPC of the campaign.
He fought our party. He possessed my character. The rest of the party had to KO her as he made her attack them. He got away to fight another day.
My character is WRECKED.
It was amazing.
It was so much more than I could’ve hoped for.
So yeah. If you have a good DM, one you trust (and I hope you do) give them parts of your story! Not just the parts that your character wouldn’t know, but parts that they can incorporate into a world and a story they know better than you. I’ve never had more fun playing DnD, or been more deeply impacted.
Maybe this isn’t as revelatory for others, but man, it’s been a literal game changer for me.

Fate & Phantasms #310: Faerie Knight Gawain
Tumblr media
today on Fate and Phantasms we’re cooking up our very first faerie knight, so come down and b ar guest! Barghest, we’re making Barghest. or Faerie Knight Gawain, if you prefer. so this build… is a mess! if you want a wizard to do literally everything that’s fine, but the second you make a fighter that can do a bunch of cool stuff it takes a bunch of classes to pull off. I see your bias, wizards of the coast!
okay, seriously though. Barghest is a Beast Barbarian for some Fang Clan action, as well as an Undead Warlock and Rune Knight Fighter to turn into a beast of calamity at full power.
check out her build breakdown below the cut, or her character sheet over here!
next up: am I the only one who keeps mixing her up with Elisabeth?
Race and Background
obviously any barghest is a fey, but faeries are small and you are very not. so instead we’re making her a Custom Lineage for a +2 Strength, medium size, Darkvision to dunk on humans, and an Aberrant Dragonmark from Morgan. with this, you add a +1 to your constitution, and can use that stat to cast a cantrip and 1st level spell from the sorcerer spell list. we had to get Fog Cloud this way, because despite having an entire subclass dedicated to being a shadow monster sorcerers can’t summon them. so boom, foul weather right off the bat. you can also Create Bonfire, go nuts.
you can cast fog cloud once per short rest, and whenever you cast said spell you can spend a hit die and roll it. on an even number you gain temporary HP, and on an odd a nearby creature takes force damage equal to the number rolled. that’s the thunder!
you’re also a Knight of the Order like your inspiration, giving you proficiency in Persuasion and Nature. you are a dog.
Ability Scores
number 1 is Strength, Barghest do be beefy. 2 is Constitution, because that beef is hard as steel. third highest is Dexterity, it’s really useful to not get killed. that means your Charisma is lower than I’d like (and also lower than we need for multiclassing but don’t worry). your Wisdom is in a weird spot since I’m sure Barghest’s eyes are fine, but her mind is not. madness enhancement, not even once. finally, we’re dumping Intelligence. the Fang Clan isn’t really into that sort of thing.
class levels
1. fighter 1: first level fighters get their fighting style, and we can argue all day about how big barghie’s sword is, but at the end of the day she holds it in one hand, so that’s the dueling style, giving her +2 damage with all one-handed attacks while the other’s empty. she also gets a second wind for some regeneration once a short rest.
ideally we woulda gone with barbarian as the starting class, but fighters get heavy armor, and her armor is very heavy. sometimes. she’ll also get proficiency with strength and constitution saves, as well as animal handling and intimidation this way.
2. barbarian 1: but other times her armor is very light. for those times, your new unarmored defense will kick in, adding her constitution modifier to your AC while you don’t wear any armor. for even more toughness, you can Rage for resistance against all physical damage types. that also adds extra damage to your melee attacks, and you have advantage with strength checks and saves. all those bonuses only happen when you’re not in heavy armor, so you’ll have to ascend before you can really use it.
3. Barbarian 2: second level barbarians get a Danger Sense that gives them advantage on dexterity saves made against anything you see coming- you can also make a Reckless Attack, getting advantage on your attack in exchange for other creatures having advantage against you the round. just wipe out the enemy in one turn, that’s already like 90% of the FGO meta.
4. Barbarian 3: at third level you really put the “bar” in barbarian (the second one, I mean) when you become a Beast barbarian. whenever you rage (and this includes while armored) you take on the Form of the Beast, giving you one of three natural weapons. you can bite to heal yourself if you’re bloodied, claw to make an extra attack each action, or grow a tail for some reach and to shield yourself. for once, all three options are arguably in-character for you!
you also learn a little Survival thanks to your Primal Knowledge. and who said you never learned nothin in fang clan?
5. barbarian 4: use your first asi to round up your strength for more hittin’ and also bump up your charisma so we can multiclass in a bit.
6. barbarian 5: fifth level barbarians can make an extra attack each action, and their fast movement means you can add an extra 10’ to your movement speed! kachow!
7. barbarian 6: sixth level beast barbs have a bestial soul, which not only makes your rage attacks magical against resistances, but also gives you a mobility boost! every short rest you can swap between one of three options- either you can swim at your walking speed and breath underwater, climb at walking speed without an ability check, or you can jump super far once per turn. i think the jumping’s most in-character, but do what feels right!
8. Warlock 1: we’ve got almost as much power as we can without turning you into a walking apocalypse so… let’s do that! now, obviously Morgan is actually an archfey, but she’s died enough times to count as an Undead too, right? yeah, that’s it.
with this patron, you can undergo a Form of Dread as a bonus action, which lasts for one minute. with it, you gain temporary HP, the ability to frighten creatures you hit with attacks if they fail a wisdom save, and you’re immune to being frightened yourself. you can use this proficiency times per day.
on top of that, you also learn a little Pact Magic, giving you a few spell slots that recharge on short rests. for your cantrips, pick up Booming Blade for a pseudo-smite, as well as Sword Burst for your first shadow summons. for your arm whip… things… use Arms of Hadar to spread the love around, and also you can Cause Fear. turns out death omens are spooky, who knew? I did. very much so.
9. Warlock 2: second level warlocks get Eldritch Invocations, letting you customize your demon dog however you like. technically you get two this level, but I’m saving one for level three, so for now just grab Devil’s Sight to see through magical darkness. you can also cast Hex to add a little shadowy spice to your attacks.
10. Warlock 3: at third level you take your pact, the pact of the blade! now you can summon a sword as an action, and it can be any kind of one-handed weapon you want! with Improved Pact Weapon you can turn it into almost anything, and you also get a +1 to all attacks and damage rolls made with it, so you can now use a longsword or a shortsword depending on your mood. (it’s probably more longsword to greatsword, but you still can’t wield that one-handed.) those attacks are also magical, and you can cast spells using this weapon as a focus, so you can keep your hand open for other stuff.
you can also cast Darkness this level to make some seriously inclement weather that you can even see through for free advantage on attacks. that’ll be fun later, but it’s still pretty fun now.
11. Warlock 4: use this ASI to round up your Charisma for stronger spells and Dexterity for less getting hit.
you can also cast Eldritch Blast to throw shadow dogs at people, or Hold Person to tie them up in dog leashes. I was really hoping to make her a sorcerer, but this is fine too. with hold person, one person is stuck in place if they fail their save, and all melee attacks automatically crit if they hit at all. it’s a great spell for someone who can- wait, hold on.
12. Warlock 5: it’s a great spell for someone who can use an Eldritch Smite by spending a spell slot to add a ton of damage to their pact weapon attack, with all those dice being doubled by critting. you can also use those spell slots to Summon Shadowspawn for the big shadow guy.
13. Warlock 6: a sixth level undead warlock is Grave Touched. you no longer need to eat, drink, or breathe, and once per turn you can turn your attack damage into necrotic damage, and even roll an extra die while in your Form of Dread.
if you’d like an extra die of necrotic damage all the time, check out your new spell Spirit Shroud! with this, any attack you make on someone within 10’ of you deals an extra 1d8 damage that’s either cold, radiant, or necrotic. this damage also prevents healing, a notable effect of barghest bites. finally, this aura also slows creatures in it if they start their turn there, an effect you can use selectively.
14. Fighter 2: now that we have an aoe effect, it’s time we learn how to abuse it. not yet though, second level fighters only get an Action Surge for an extra action each short rest. now you can use up all two of your spell slots in one turn!
15. Fighter 3: a third level fighter can become a Rune Knight, letting you gain some Giant Might for a minute proficiency times per day. when you spend your bonus action this way you become large (if there’s space), get advantage on strength checks and saves, and you deal an extra 1d6 damage with each weapon attack.
you’re also a Rune Carver, letting you put two runes on two items you own for special effects while wielding them. both come with a passive effect that’s always active, as well as an active effect you can use once per short rest. a Frost rune gives you advantage on animal handling and intimidation checks, and you can activate it as a bonus action for a +2 bonus to all strength and constitution saves for 10 minutes. the Stone rune increases your darkvision to 120’, gives you advantage on insight checks, and you can activate it to force a wisdom save on a creature, charming them if they fail. also worth noting the save dc is constitution-based.
16. Fighter 4: use this ASI for more Charisma, that means stronger spells.
17. Warlock 7: seventh level warlocks get fourth level spells like Shadow of Moil, giving you a shadowy wreath that clings to you for up to a minute, making the area around you darker and counterattacking anything that hits you from within 10’. you’re uh… starting to “boil over” a little.
you also have a relentless hex now, so if you hex someone you can teleport to them to continue kicking their ass. you can’t use this to teleport across continents, but to be honest death should be hard to get away from.
18. Warlock 8: eighth level warlocks get their last ASI, which we’re using to grab the Crusher feat. that rounds up your Constitution for stronger mark spells and runes as well as more HP, and it makes your headbutts a lot more devastating. when you hit a creature with a bludgeoning attack, you can push it around if it’s not that much bigger than it. also, critical bludgeons gives all attacks against that creature advantage for a round. fun for the whole party!
you also get Greater Invisibility, because god knows Barghest wasn’t terrifying enough yet. I know she doesn’t have an evade skill, but it turns out that’s just something barghests can do, according to folklore.
19. Warlock 9: ninth level warlocks get fifth level spells, and I don’t like them tbh. at least Enervation is on theme. it makes dark tentacles that slap people and give you their health, it’s like an eviler witch bolt.
you also get an Otherworldly Leap, so you can cast Jump at will for some serious hoppage. it’s practically flying at this point.
20. Warlock 20: with your final level, pick up one last cantrip- chill touch- to make sure that absolutely nobody is getting any healing done around you.
you also become a Necrotic Husk, giving you a permanent resistance to necrotic damage that turns into an immunity when you’re in your form of dread.
it’s also time to end the world. nothing personal, it’s just gotta happen. when you’re reduced to 0 HP, you now explode into a bunch of necrotic damage. you cling to life at 1 HP, and gain one level of exhaustion. then you can’t do this again for 1d4 long rests.
Pros and Cons
Pros:
you bring together the best of swords and sorcery into one package, with plenty of cool spells to augment your physicality along with spell-like options that you can use even while raging so there’s never a dull moment.
you also pack plenty of HP and an AC to back it up, at least while wearing armor. even while unarmored, you’ve got spells to make yourself much harder to hit, so it’s not too bad. add in your rage and your multiple ways to regain HP and temporary HP, and it’ll be a while before they can take this dog out back.
you bring a certain physicality to the party that’s hard to imitate. and by that I mean you have good charisma with advantage on intimidation checks and you can grow to ten feet tall while doing so to really push your weight around.
Cons:
a lot of your powerups use your bonus action, so by the time you’re ready to go the fight might be over. you’re more of a “mighty glacier” sort of character- once you get going you’re hard to stop, but you need to get going first.
not being a true paladin really hurts you when it comes to your spell slots. you only get two per short rest, so if your DM’s into multiple encounters between rests choosing between smites and advantage-pushing spells will quickly become an issue.
while spellswords are cool, it does leave you a little MAD- multi-ability dependent. none of your spells are particularly reliable, your HP’s a little scrawny for a barbarian, and we couldn’t even max out your strength. you’re a real jack-of-all-trades like that- well, not real real, since that’s bards, but… you get what I’m saying, right?

Alright we all know how death works in the Kirby universe
You die, you either rest or you’re too angry to die and turn into a shadow of your former self (soul bosses)
Tumblr media
But that’s if you somehow defeat Kirby or you have really bad luck (Forgo soul) Morpho knight appears
Tumblr media
So with that established…
we’re the F*CK the undead enemies go in this?
Tumblr media
This things unlike the soul bosses aren’t vengeful demons or are powerful and they’re never seen being attacked by morpho knight… so why they get to fly around? Did morpho judge them and decided to let them stay in the living world? Are they even souls? Are they just happy mistakes of morpho? Did they even use to be people?
And this isn’t a old thing because the same game we got confirmed morpho is a soul eater… we get this pals (also ghost gordos)
Tumblr media
And then there’s this guys and he’s gang
Tumblr media
Reasons why morpho should have done something about necrodeus
1-is a obvious example of a soul level threat and is obviously dead
2-is powerful enough to defeat morpho (if he can get him to stand still for a second)
3-could get enough power to one shot kirby or kill him more easily
4-is messing with the natural order by making EVEN MORE UNDEAD which can turn the living in undead as well
The zombons:
Tumblr media
Which spawn in hordes around the skull tower “secret hideout of the skull gang”
Tumblr media
So what’s the lore implications of this guys? And most importantly… why morpho hasn’t faced this 10.000 old Necromancer which is literally ruining his job for the last thousands of years
And don’t go with “he got lazy” because that butterfly went to another dimension for one soul while did nothing for this guys which were nearer
(Maybe it has to do with the thousands of years of pain but idk)

Anstacia of Astora: Minor role, huge impact, great outfit. 6/10.
Oswald of Carim: What the fuck this is just like a jumpscare from Five Fuckers at Uncle Festers. 6/10.
Crestfallen Warrior: The classic in full form. 6/10.
Andre of Astora: Sure he’s all right. 6/10.
Darkmoon Knight: Good armor, memorable but doesn’t do much. 6/10.
Petrus of Thoroland: Fuck this guy, weird rapist-vibes asshole. Deeply memorable, very hateable, 6/10.
Giant Blacksmith: Yeah all-right. 6/10.
Shiva the East: MORE LIKE SHIVA THE DEC--eh decent fashion but that’s it. 5/10.
Ingward: I literally dressed as him for Halloween once. Otherwise not much to say about him. 5/10.
Marvelous Chester: ... okay? 5/10?
Griggs of Vinheim: Stuck in a barrel. Chasing Logan’s shadow. Some lore implications with him being an assassin? Mostly memorable for the barrel thing. 4/10.
Undead Merchant, Male: Kind of a jackass I guess. 4/10.
Dusk of Oolacile: Memorable, but only because of her circumstances. Kind of a non-character. 4/10.
Blacksmith Vamos: Eh. 4/10.
Rickert of Vinheim: Being in an underground jail is memorable, and he gives you your first sorceries, and I guess he does magic weapon upgrading? But not much else going on. Eh. 3/10.
Reah of Thorolund: Kind of bland. Damsel in distress. She’s there, I guess. 3/10.
Elizabeth: That’s a mushroom. 3/10.
Undead Merchant, Female: Eh. 2/10.
Crestfallen Merchant: Who. 2/10.
Dark Souls 2:
THE RAT KING: MY KING. The hottest Dark Souls character. Runs the COOLEST fucking covenant in any Dark Souls. Has an entire character arc where he starts out reluctantly allowing a human’s service to you becoming “one of the good humans” to you changing his mind and letting him dream that someday humans and rats can live and die together in peace and his voice fucking BREAKS several times with emotion as you change his entire life and fill him with pride, you, his dear SERVANT. AAAA. 99999/10.
Sweet Shalquoir: Whimsical sarcastic fae cat jerk holy fucking shit 11/10.
Weaponsmith Ornifex: Skee hee! So now the boss-weapon vendor in this game is not only a hot monster but she’s adorable and friendly and likes to make spooky dolls too? 11/10.
Lucatiel of Mirrah: A character who adventures with you the entire game AND whose storyline is not only about what it means to be cursed with undeath but asks questions of memory and legacy and identity? With a great fashion?? 10/10.
Gavlan: Gavlan Wheel. Gavlan deal. When you with Gavlan? You wheel. You deel. 10/10.
Titchy Gren: I can’t cum unless you tell me how much you like blood, tell me more about blood please ooh hhhhh blooodddddddd 10/10.
Shanalotte: A lot of cut content keeps her story too secret. But it’s fun to have a guide with a mysterious past that’s with you the whole game. Bearer seek seek lest. 9/10.
King Vendrick: OOO dark souls 2 is just a pointless repeat of dark souls 1 fuck you Vendrick shows there’s an entire new paradigm of Kings with Manus-Shard wives and his story is weird and sad and you spend the entire game chasing after him and when you finally reach him you FINALLY discover... there’s nothing left of him. And then you go back in time and talk to him and it’s even sadder. 9/10.
Head of Vengarl: Talk to a decapitated head in the middle of a foggy, haunted wood, about finding peace in life. 9/10.
Straid of Olaphis: Asshole frozen for a thousand years continues to be an asshole to great applause. Ha ha ha ha! 9/10.
Crestfallen Saulden: This time the Crestfallen Warrior gets a happy ending and it’s wonderful. 9/10.
Laddersmith Gilligan: Gives you one of the nicest looking weapons in the game. Gives you one of the funniest looks in the game if you short-change him and he sets up a death-trap while glaring at you for being stingy while you WATCH him do it. Hilarious. 9/10.
Alsanna, the Silent Oracle: Powerful tragic queen defying her nature out of love. 8/10.
Maughlin the Armorer: You watch the undead curse destroy this man’s mind as the game goes on and it’s fucking heartbreaking but at least he’s happy. 8/10.
Three Firekeepers: Insult you the moment they see you. Tell you it’s Dark Souls and you’re going to die. Also respec you and come to respect you just a little bit. 8/10.
Bellkeeper Mannikin: UNDEAD! UNDEAD! What an amazing, insane jackass. What a GREAT covenant. 8/10.
Grave Warden Agdayne: What the fuck is your deal what is going ON in this setting tell me more I want to know more why is your sword SO BIG why are you so HOT. 8/10.
Jester Thomas: You can summon him AND he invades you so I’m counting it. He doesn’t talk but oh my god the personality this one asshole brings to the table. 8/10.
Darkdiver Grandahl: Darkness Grampa, I’m ready for the bonus dungeons. 7/10.
Felkin the Outcast: Gives you lore about the Dark, gives you cool spells, has the hat that everyone wears because it increases your casts. 7/10.
Benhart of Jugo: Your Siegmeyer equivalent. Uses the Moonlight Greatsword but OOPS it’s a counterfeit. Hilarious. 7/10.
Blacksmith Leningrast: Isn’t Andre. Good dad, faintly tragic story, dumbass locked himself out of his own house. 7/10.
Merchant Hag Melentia: Gives you backstory dump, helps Majula feel less empty, AND is creepy and old? 7/10.
Licia of Lindelt: Fucking miracle scam artist hilarious. 7/10.
Camptain Drummond: Appears in one scene really, but gives a good feel of the history of the world and that it isn’t just about your quest to kill bosses or whatever real people have lived and died between the cycles. 7/10.
Manscorpion Tark: Assigned malewife at birth by Seath. 6/10.
Magarold of Lanafir: I want to fuck this twink violently that’s all. 6/10.
Royal Sorceror Navlaan: Oh THIS asshole again. 6/10.
Rosabeth of Melfia: Vomits on screen for way too long and it’s hilarious. Can dress her as you like. Not unmemorable personality. 6/10.
Stone Trader Chloanne: Tragic story, but doesn’t go much of anywhere--but it’s DS2, part of the point is it doesn’t have a tragic ending. 6/10.
Dyna and Tillo: Gimme the FUCKING whip already. 5/10.
Blue Sentinel Targray: Absolutely average in every way. Nice armor though. Give it to me. 5/10.
Creighton the Wanderer: Nothing special on his own, but pared with Pate their storyline is at least interesting. 5/10.
Mild Mannered Pate: Well, he isn’t Patches that’s for sure, but he does have a fun bit of story. 5/10.
Nashandra: I love you get to talk to her before she’s the final boss, but I wish it was far more substantial than what we get. 5/10.
Ancient Dragon: Incredible lead-up to a confusing pay-off. We all thought he was Aldia but I guess he’s not? Why is he the same as the corpse by Freja? What’s going on. 4/10.
Chancellor Wellager: Eh. Gives you good exposition I guess? 4/10.
Steadyhand McDuff: Shape up, shape up. 4/10.
Carhillion of the Fold: Asshole. 4/10.
Milibeth: Hits you with a fucking ladle. Otherwise not much going on. 4/10.
Cale the Cartograher: I’m going to be honest even looking him up I barely remember anything useful about him. 3/10.
Cromwell the Pardoner: Wishes he was Oswald of Carim. 3/10.
Dark Souls 3
Patches/Lapp: At his absolute peak, the pinnacle of his storyline. 11/10.
Anri of Astora: You go on parallel adventures and they suffer the loss of their friend; then they either die avenging the creepy monster that raised and abused them as kids, or you hijack their story and turn them into your thrall-spouse in a weird mirror emulation of the cycle of kings and their dark-brides. Could have been better served not using the Elite Knight armor. 10/10.
Greirat of the Undead Settlement: He’s just a little guy and he wants to help! Oops--uh oh--oh no. 10/10.
Karla: Shard of Manus that never found a king. Great character, sarcastic but endearing and genuine. 10/10.
Ludleth of Corland: I may be small, but I die a colossus. 10/10.
Singing Cage: Has 4 lines of dialogue and they will never leave my head. Another nana’s disappeared... 10/10.
Firekeeper: Vaguely tragic. Sticks with you even if you decide the entire system is broken and it’s time for the quiet gentle of nothing to settle upon the world. 9/10.
Freide: Lots going on with her, from pretending to be a Priscilla to rule Ariandel, to abandoning Londor’s search for a Dark Lord, to being a failed Lord of Cinder who never linked the flame. Also, yes, fine, one of the best boss fights in the series. 9/10.
Company Captain Yorshka: Oh don’t do this to me oh no don’t ask me how Gwyndolin’s doing oh no oh no. Yes, though, I’m probably a bird don’t worry about it. 9/10.
Irina of Carim: Yeah okay let’s all get super depressed and miserable. 8/10.
Hawkwood the Deserter: This time the Crestfallen Warrior regains his crest and he tries to kill YOU! Okay. Decent twist. 8/10.
Yuria of Londor: You get TWO maidens guiding you this time, and this one’s got a katana and wants you to bring an age of dark. Neat! 7/10.
Eygon of Carim: Oh, THIS asshole. Yeah. Yeah this asshole. 7/10.
Holy Knight Hodrick: Great fashion, great asshole, gets killed by his own daughter. 7/10.
Knight Vilheim: A maille MANTLE? Yes I love that fashion. Doesn’t have much presence beyond appearance and threatening you but like, yeah it’s a good presence. 7/10.
Archer Giant: Okay you hardly interact with him but he’s a MEMORABLE set-piece oh god my standards are so low the NPCs in Dark Souls 3 fucking suck. 7/10.
Yoel of Londor: Does a good job establishing the stakes and setting this time, and is a neat dude. He dies, it’s surprising and sad. 7/10.
Shrine Handmaid: Time-travel fuckery and a cranky grandma make her a fun experience yeah. 7/10.
The Painter: Priscilla’s... daugther? Reincarnation... narrative continuity? It’s good to know the painted world can continue outside of the cycle of light and dark I guess. 7/10.
Horace the Hushed: Basically an accessory for Anri but nah he’s got his own backstory implications going on. 6/10.
Pickle Pee: Pump...a--RUM! 6/10.
Orbeck of Vinheim: Basically a retread of the mage assassins from DS1. Eh. Not a bad remix though. 5/10.
Ringfinger Leonard: At least it’s a covenant with someone to tell you what the covenant is about. 5/10.
Forlorn Corvid Settler: It’s painful to see Ornifex’s people became a bunch of rotting birds dragging their poop around, but that’s a good thing. 5/10.
Drowsy Forlorn: Okay, he only has a few lines of dialogue but it’s such a strong introduction to Ariandel. 5/10.
Slave Knight Gael: Kind of shows up once, then you summon him, and then there’s a few messages he left, and then he’s... what, the final fucking boss of the ENTIRE franchise? Excuse me? Yes, he’s one of the best boss fights in the ENTIRE franchise, yes, but why, who, what? He’s just the Dark Soul at that point, and YES sure the point is he’s a nobody like you who managed to last until the end of time or whatever, sure, I don’t care. My reaction to him being the final boss of the series was not “Oh hell yeah” but “... huh? What? Why?” 5/10.
Rosaria, Mother of Rebirth: ... are you Gwynevere? Who are you? I want to know more, and I don’t know if that’s a good mystery or just a frustrating lack of content. 5/10.
Cornyx of the Great Swamp: ... eh? Okay? 5/10.
Sirris of the Sunless Realms: ... okay? Sure? Okay. I guess killing your mad father is a story at least? 5/10.
Pilgrim Butterfly Nascent: That’s... neat? She becomes an immortal angel dream supported by a cocoon of her own flesh? Why? Because it’s neat? Sure, it’s neat. 5/10.
Old Woman of Londor: She’s in the game I guess. 4/10.
High Priestess Emma: She tells you what direction to go I guess. Guess she raised Prince Lothric? Okay that’s nice. 4/10.
Blacksmith Andre: Hey remember dark souls 1 you liked dark souls 1 right you like andre right we brought him back please like us. Why is he here. How is he here. What is any of this? 1/10.
Archdeacon McDonnel: Oh, a covenant leader without any dialogue whatsoever. I love not even being given a reason to join a covenant or learning anything about it. 0/10.
Old Wolf of Farron: Oh, a covenant leader without any dialogue whatsoever. I love not even being given a reason to join a covenant or learning anything about it. 0/10.
Siegwhatever: Long may the sun shine! You’re just fucking Siegmeyer YOURE JUST FUCKING SIEGMEYER stop trying to tug at my nostalgia sure you have your own plot with Yhorm that comes out of nowhere but YORE JUST FUCKING SIEGMEYER TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT FUCK YOU 0/10
--
I’m not doing one for Elden Ring because even if I controversially don’t like Elden Ring much, it has a ton of great NPCs and even if it’s fucking OBNOXIOUS finding where they’ve gone in a fucking open world game without a guide without checking every single location in the game every time you do anything spend just 10 hours combing the entire map becausue who knows maybe Alexander is here now maybe Blaidd is inthe fuucking evergoal fuck you--
ahem. excuse me. despite all of that Elden Ring has great NPCs.
BUT MY POINT IS
fuck Dark Souls 3 it has the weakest npcs it fucking sucks
Dark Souls 2? Best NPCs. Best most fun wonderful. Dark Souls 2 best dark souls.

My Paladin Barthe would love to meet Mother Lucretia because he has Many Questions(tm) about Shadow, undeath, being Forsaken, ect as he tries to overcome the very bigoted upbringing and teachings* he's had his entire life, but I suspect Zalatra would try to gnaw his face off before he could even say hello to the 'harmless undead grandmother'. XD
I'm telling him its a bad idea but, since he thinks she's an undead grandma and grandma's of all races tend to love him because he's a Good Boy(tm), it should be fine. Bless this himbo's heart, he can rattle off the name of every bone, organ, and muscle in the bodies of every species in the alliance and horde, but is too stupid to realize he might be walking into certain death...
(* Many in his family are fanatics who were either in the Scarlet Crusade at one time or are active Scarlet sympathizers; at least one of his teachers in the Cathedral was a former Scarlet. His older brother was literally disowned for secretly studying the arcane and his family removed the name of his aunt who was raised a Death Knight from the family register. So one can imagine what he learned as a boy...)
(Mamma Mia that's a big ask, I didn't know you could send asks this long now) But yes, I would love this very much, I love interactions between characters whose beliefs are so opposite to each other's (in a way that isn't just hurling insults or attacks at the other). Especially if one side is undead and the other has been taught to hate the undead... Lucretia has spoken to many living people in the Alliance and both sides have made it out unscathed so it can't be that bad... :-)

I'd love to hear about your ocs seeings as you reblogged that ask post :)
Okay I had to think hard about this because tbh I didn't actually expect anyone to come into my inbox asking me about my OCs after I reblogged that post LMAO it's only recently that people actually send me shit and I'm still trying to get used to it.
In so many different OCs that I have, such as Grokkar (orcish death knight from WoW), Omen (mysterious shadow person who appears as a wolf, from DC) and Baphomet (unknown species of alien who knows nothing about his people, also DC), they all fit the same theme of being alone, being an outcast, and knowing nothing about themselves, and the journey towards trying to understand who and what they are, OR what they used to be. I WAS gonna break down ALL THREE characters backstories and shit, and how they're all similar in their themes of loneliness, but it got WAY too long, so if you wanna hear about the other two, let me know! I focused on Grokkar with this ask. seriously long ass bullshit below!
So as I said, with this particular ask I'm talking Grokkar, one of the characters I actually play as on WoW. He's gone through a lot of bullshit in his life..er…undeath? He is an orc, and a Death Knight, which if you know anything about WoW, you probably can already guess the angst and shit that comes with being a Death Knight, but I became a Batman blog within the past few years so a lot of my followers are Batman fans and might not know shit about WoW, so I'll explain the details of what being a Death Knight actually means. Also keep in mind I'm not like a HUGE ULTRA EXPERT about Death Knights and Wrath of the Lich King (the expansion that introduced them as a class you could play) or anything, I just know some basic shit. So if I get some shit wrong…insert shrug emoji here.
Grokkar was originally just a regular orc guy, but then he fucking died during the war against the Scourge (undead that were trying to destroy and take over the world, lead by the Lich King, Arthas Menethil). The Lich King then raised Grokkar from the dead, and took full control of his actions, feelings, thoughts etc. (as he did with most of the Scourge) and turned him into a merciless killing machine, where Grokkar used unholy and necromantic magic and other abilities to hurt and kill others. If you play through the Death Knight starting zone in WoW, you get to actually play out some of the fucked up things the Death Knights did under the Lich King's control, and how you gain back control of yourself, and deal with the aftermath of your actions.
When you eventually go back to your faction's capital city (either Stormwind or Orgrimmar) to rejoin the rest of Azeroth in the fight against the Lich King and his Scourge…the NPCs in that city will boo at you, throw tomatoes at you, and tell you that YOU are the reason why people are dying, that YOU are responsible for the deaths of their family members, their loved ones, the people they will never see again. They cannot even bury their own family members and give them a proper funeral, because the ones who died fighting against the Scourge…were then raised as undead, to become a part of the Scourge itself.
As a side ramble that's related to the above paragraph, I've been going through the old Ice Crown Citadel raid (trying to farm the Invincible mount lol), and there's a part in that raid where you have to fight a Val'kyr named Sister Svalna, and you are aided by a bunch of Argent Crusade allies, and you kill all the Scourge in your way to get to her, but during the fight a few of the argent crusade fellas die. The allies behind you who are about to join you in the fight against Sister Svalna say something like "Quickly, lets kill her before her reinforcements arrive!" And she says in response "You fool, you've brought my reinforcements with you!" And then proceeds to literally raise some of the ally NPC's that were killed by her during the previous fight, who YOU then have to fight. When you kill them, they will usually say "I'm sorry…" or "Finally, I can be at peace" or something similar to that. It's very fucking grim, but it is why the whole story is SO fucking good. It's this overarching sense of doom, and fear that that enemy you are going up against…might actually win. How the odds are forever in the favour of the enemy, since any one of YOUR allies that are killed become THEIR soldiers. It's an almost never-ending battle that you appear fated to lose.
Anyways I went off topic a little bit, but all of the stuff that I mentioned would be a VERY difficult thing to come to terms with as a Death Knight at the start, having to acknowledge that you did some really fucked up awful things, but also knowing that you had no control over your own actions- your own feelings and thoughts having been corrupted and tainted by the Lich King. For my character Grokkar, despite the many years that went by since the defeat of the Scourge, and the fall of the Lich King, he never really "got over" all of that guilt, all of the pain, and all of that suffering. In a way, it would seem very hard for a Death Knight to move past such a dark time in their uh.."lives", given the fact that the moment a Death Knight is raised by the Lich King, so much about them changes. It is a core moment in their existence that determines how the rest of their "life" is going to pan out. You cannot be raised from the dead like that and have your entire existence twisted in such an unholy and unnatural way without being irrevocably changed somehow. Even when speaking to other Death Knight NPCs in-game, when you click on them, they say "Suffer well". The entire existence of a Death Knight is suffering, and trying to escape that fate is very difficult, and when I created Grokkar as a teenager that was uh…Going Through It, so to speak, this idea of perpetual agony and suffering and the inability to escape it was very relatable to me. lmao.
To talk more about Grokkar as a character, he is very much the epitome of loneliness, and of being an outsider. I'd say during the earlier days of Death Knights re-joining their respective factions (either the Alliance or the Horde), things would have certainly been very…rocky, so to speak. Why should the rest of Azeroth have to fight alongside the very individuals they once fought against, even if they were just as much victims of the Lich King as the rest of the people of Azeroth? Especially when you consider the Unholy specialisation of Death Knights (aka what type of DK you are and what abilities you use. There is Frost, Blood and Unholy. Grokkar is an Unholy DK). Unholy Death Knights literally raise the dead as minions and use diseases to kill their enemies, very much still using the same violent and repugnant tactics of the Scourge to…fight the Scourge. I'd say in the earlier days, during Wrath of the Lich King, some people might have still been hesitant to work with Death Knights, but working with them regardless because you needed everything and everyone you could get who would willingly go against the Lich King, and over time I think people would have become more open to existing alongside Death Knights in general.
But for Grokkar, despite the changing times, he is very much still in that same mindset he was in during Wrath. Everything and everyone around him has changed and moved on and healed, and he has still stayed the same, almost unable to move on, unable to see things through a newer perspective, still believing in some way that people do not wish to be near him. This of course causes himself to become distant from others, ensuring that others are unable to get close to him, or decide that trying to do so is too difficult or not worth the energy. It's a cycle of loneliness and self-outcasting that he has a very difficult time trying to escape. He is numb and empty, still continuing to fight for the people of Azeroth when some new threat arrives to try and fuck everything up, but feeling as though each accomplishment is meaningless or of little value, especially when he can barely find any meaning or value within himself as a person. He's essentially on autopilot for a very, very long time after the end of Wrath.
All of this is probably also not helped by the fact that he has no choice but to figure out who he is as a person from scratch. I've done a lot of research about Death Knights and what exactly they "remember" from their old lives, and there seems to be a consensus that Death Knights do in fact remember some amount of their past lives. Some remember all of it, some only remember bits and pieces here and there, and some might remember very little. It seems to be very rare that a Death Knight remembers nothing of their past lives, but for extra angst, I decided very early on that that was going to be Grokkar's experience: remembering nothing of his past life, and having to make a decision on whether he should simply try to move on with his life and allow himself to become a new person, or whether he should try and seek out a way to remember who he once was…and risk being either disappointed in who he is now compared to what he was in the past, or realising he used to have a family who loved him, who most likely would want nothing to do with him now that he is such a completely different individual. There is a lot of stuff going on with Grokkar as a character, a lot of complicated feelings that he has, and his strange determination on remaining in this realm when he truly feels like he has nothing to actually "live" for besides trying to protect Azeroth. He has no friends, he has no idea if he has a family or not, and doesn't know if he would event want to go back to his family if he even knew about them, and the people he does spend time with he does not consider to be friends. They are colleagues, acquaintances, allies. But never friends. Any time HE is called a friend by somebody else it gives him whiplash, and it becomes the catalyst for him trying to actually re-think everything in his head, because over time it becomes clear to him that his inner thoughts do not match the reality of the people and experiences around him.
I think also that some of the reason that Grokkar struggles to move past all of this, is his obsession with his own otherness as a Death Knight, and as somebody who is..well…undead. He is very much not alive, yet his body still moves and functions like it was. He doesn't need to eat, blink, breathe or sleep. His body is cold. If he decided to lie down in a bed and take a nap, you could easily confuse him for an actual corpse. In some of my stories (in my head that I haven't written down yet), the times in which he has been knocked unconscious, his allies who are alive have a difficult time figuring out if he is ACTUALLY dead for real this time, because he displays no signs of life even when he is actually awake, and all of his allies are pulling their hair out trying to decide if they should try and find a way to wake him from unconsciousness…or come to the conclusion that he's dead for realsies this time, lets prepare a funeral lmao.
It's this otherness regarding his own body and how it functions (or doesn't function) that I feel like stops him from thinking more nice things about himself. He feels unable to have proper relationships, especially romantic ones (which he DOES desire, despite everything) because who would want to hold or love someone who was so cold and lifeless? Who would want to lay in bed with what exactly resembles a corpse? Who wants a friend who sits there for 12 hours straight not blinking or breathing or eating or whatever because they needed a little bit of rest? Grokkar obsesses about it to an unhealthy degree, the differences between himself and other people, the things he can and can't do, and how he perceives all these differences to be a bad thing.
Over time, I think Grokkar becomes a less lonely person, but it takes a lot of effort and time for him to come to the conclusion that some people actually DO want to be around him, and I think it's something he will always struggle with. Grokkar very much was a self-insert for ALL of my fears and doubts and struggles and everything else when I was a teenager, and while overtime I've personally gotten a lot better with my feelings of self-worth and shit, he is still a character I go back to a lot because he is the perfect outlet for some of the darkest thoughts I've ever had. Hell, I even wrote a (now not-canon) story about how he fucking dies FOR REAL this time and how his own ghost prepares his own body for his funeral his damn self because of his INTENSE fear of being raised from the dead again, and he wants to prevent it from every occurring again (REALLY GRAPHIC AND DARK STORY, PLEASE READ THE TAGS/WARNINGS). Some of the darkest shit I ever wrote, and it's because Grokkar himself is just…a dark character in general, and the best outlet for all these thoughts and feelings.
Anways. That was some shit about Grokkar. It wasn't EVERYTHING but it was like, the most important shit. If you wanna know more stuff about other characters let me know!!!

We know there’s that joke about everyone else in RWBY is playing Devil May Cry while Jaune is stuck playing Dark Souls right? But what if Jaune is actually pulled into a Souls game(s) by a different god when he fell into the black? Chosen Undead, Ashen One, Bearer of the Curse, Tarnished, the Hunter, Sekiro, Hollow Knight, or whatever, he has to live in those shoes until the other god is ‘satisfied’ and sends him back with all his new gear. How do you think that’d change things if/when he gets back?
Jaunes timing is now to such a level that no one can beat him and he's developed true confidence to the point he doesn't care if everyone is more fun to watch fight he just dose whatever is most effective.
His relationship with his friends becomes strained as it's now a group of teenagers and a full grown man trying to be friends. Jaune becomes a bit of a loner as he's too young to hang with the last generation and too old for his own.
Weiss, Blake and yang all take issue with jaune not being the weakest anymore. Before it was easy to know that jaune was the low man on the totem pole. Now the comfortable world they knew is gone.
Yang is at least honest with her anger and tries to fight jaune. Jaunes used to enemies who get stronger as you hurt the so she loses and yang just accepts it after that. Weiss and Blake both have their entire world views tied into either being the best or in Blake's case secretly being the main character in a YA novel. Blake tries to attract jaune but that fails because of her comparative Immaturity. She and Weiss then try to ruin him so they're back to the way things were but aren't successful because they're petty teenagers and don't know how to attack someone who isn't insecure and questioning their place in life.
Pyrrha gets closure on her crush when jaune just asks her if she has one. Social rejection isn't scary to jaune anymore so he's more willing to get egg on his face if he was wrong. They try dating but it fails because again jaunes seen the literal end of the world and fought gods he can't relate to Pyrrha tho he emphasizes with her. They agree to try again in a few years
Nora and Ren become more distant with jaune no longer drawing them in. Nora was already too much for most of the group it was the fact that her team always forgave her that let her stick around in the social group they built. But with only Pyrrha really drawing her and Ren out of their shells it's not enough. Ren also is pretty immature being a teenager his zen only lasts till stress overwhelms his semblance so he has never had to learn to deal with his emotions. The two become more co dependent until jaune starts acting like a father figure to them helping them mature. Though it takes a while for him to come back from what he's dealing with PTSD and depression is a bitch like that.
Ruby is the only one who still remains close to jaune because she's the only one mature enough to not care about power or her own Immaturity. While jaune might not care about her problems the same way he used to. He does still care. They just don't seem as big anymore. Ruby accepts that she and jaune are different. But that doesn't stop her from being his friend and seeking him out even when he's caught up in his own mind and having flashbacks to the hell he went through. Ruby helps jaune remain human.
Cinder dies along with mercury and emerald during the attack on the vital festival. This post is relating to the thoughts that @laurencezvahlslefteyebrow, @xerith-42 and I have been discussing. Somehow the brain rot has progressed to me completely losing my shit.
okayokayokay
We were talking about what would happen to Shadow Knights if Shad were defeated and he died. And I have sososo many thoughts.
But this ones a bit hard to explain.
Shad's presence is necessary for Shadow Knights to exist. His being is what keeps them in motion, so in turn, you'd think the Shadow Knights would die once Shad does.
I know @xerith-42 was thinking the difference would be between Premature SKs and Full ones. However, I think it's more dependent on how the SK was formed.
I think Shad's control is necessary for undead shadow knights. His spirit has to be around for Undead SKs to be "alive," seeing as he literally has to revive them. If Shad dies; and his spirit is gone, the undead shadow knights finally get to pass on. I think it would be more of a relief, even to those like Gene. Especially to those like Gene. He barely has any autonomy left, so once Shad is gone, he can finally think for himself, even if it's in some world beyond.
This is all different for transformed/living SKs. They are still alive, and still have life energy. Shad is only a part of them, not their entire being. So, once Shad is gone, they aren't shadow knights anymore. However, they aren't human. They are... something else. Something more empty. To be transformed, something is ripped from their soul, and replaced with something from Shad. So, when Shad is gone, that part of them is gone, and it's not replaced with anything.
So, Living SKs survive once Shad is gone, but they almost transform into something else. Something we haven't seen before. I'm not sure what that is yet. I really want opinions on what this would look like, especially in Laurance.
Council, your thoughts?

STMPD Recommends Bubblegum Crisis Fanfiction: David Lindquist's Sylia's Choice And DaritanX's Megatokyo 2045
A double-feature, this time, since I don't have enough to say about these two fairly decent fanfics to justify a single post. Neither one is bad, they're just sort of there. One is complete, the other is incomplete but may very well be rebooted some day.
Sylia's Choice: Sylia's taking a bubble bath, trying to soak her head and get rid of her Largo nightmares from OVA 6, and falls into a dream where she and the other girls are wandering Oriental D&D warriors, travelling the land and seeking vengeance against the Genom clan. There's an entire fucking expository glossary at the bottom of chapter 1, you see, which explains how all this came to pass, with Sylia as a warrior-sorceress, Priss as your usual bushi type, Linna as a martial artist, and Nene as Sylia's sorceress-apprentice (a cool concept that actually is followed up on to a degree). Quincy hires them in person to defeat Mason, who seems to have become a lich of some sort, and so the team goes off to fight undead Mason's magic. Only, this is a fic that's only 11K words, so they go to Mason's abandoned temple, he teleports everyone except Sylia to the Shadow Realm (not literally, but you know the meme), there's a you-and-I-are-the-same-Sylia moment, she beats his ass with the power of friendship, Sylia snaps back to reality, that's it. A remarkably unclimactic story with a perfectly fine setting. I sort of wish more total-genre AUs were done with BGC, but what can you do?
Megatokyo 2045: A very strange fic originally set up to be a Shadowrun crossover. By the way, did you know that Shawn Hagen wrote such a thing, called Knights Without Armor? I assume it was another 'Sabers Can Never Win' sort of story, because that's just Hagen for you, but the man went on record multiple times to insist that the BGC RPG's CP2020-based combat was borked and that Shadowrun's systems were far superior, especially since he made a full conversion of BGC into Shadowrun's systems. Anyway, that aside's over, so...
2045 is another single-chapter prelude-to-something-greater where GENOM's gone, the Sabers have disappeared / moved on with their lives... and an older Sho ends up getting captured when he and his friends attempt to raid a corporate lab of some sort. Two of the others die, and one escapes to seek out Priss for help. She gets her hardsuit from an older, mustached Mackie, attempts to raid the lab solo, and gets the shit beaten out of her by a mysterious man with no visible enhancements. Sylia rescues her and that's the end of Part 1.
Again, very little to say. An okay start, but no guarantee things would get better or worse. Certainly the idea of a grown-up Sho is kind of interesting, one I've been kicking around for a day or two in quieter moments. But the original author returned to reddit last year with plans to rewrite the fic twenty-some years on, but it's been like eight months since I heard anything from him as to what came of those ambitions, so who can say? I certainly can't. I really should reach out to him one of these days.

Melora Adonia, Half-Devil: [21]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Born to Dissonantia and Lilith (@fanofrandomawesomeness), Melora is a shapeshifting half-devil, with angelic blonde hair in a thick braid, red eyes, rosey cheeks, and pale skin... and has a scorpion tail. She is a powerful reality bender, but prefers pyrokinesis, vocifery, and her empathic and sing-song voice to manipulate her surroundings. She often chooses to become a black goat with demonic eyes, a centaur with a lower half of a goat, a goat martyr, or a horrific goat devil with three pairs of horns and red bat wings. She loves apples and everything made out of apples. She often has a habit of straying away from her family's cottage and fruit tree farm.
She is adoring, likeable, and brilliant woman who wishes to aid those who need help and support. [?]
Sir Gruldar "Eclipso" Twilightridge, "the Great Wall", Undead Barbarian Warrior: [dead for hundreds of years after a great battle]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Once a great warrior who died in a great battle defending his country, now roams the land between the battlefield and his lord's abandoned castle (belonged to one of Ivan's ancestors (@fanofrandomawesomeness), searching for more foreigners to slaughter, his past life forgotten. Underneath all of that dark and chipped armor, Gruldar is a literal shadow of himself, possessing his old and battered knight suit. His great size and width gave to his nicknames Eclipso, for he could cast a great shadow over those beneath him, and the Great Wall, because he couldn't be moved by anyone. Melora met "Eclipso" on the battlefield he died at, and after mistaking her for a foreigner from a rival land, engaged in a battle that he ended up losing to. Humiliated by a tiny woman, he limped away to lick his wounds, but Melora followed and healed him despite the giant previously attacking her. Humbled by her kindness, he vows to protect and worship her in return.
He is an arrogant, prideful, and arduous brute to most who have the dismay of meeting him, but deep down he is a lost soul who is lonely and wishes for a companion. [?]
