watching the sdcc panel and i am just very :) about how sweet their answers to “what are some of the micro moments from the game that have stuck with you the most over the years?” are. taliesin saying what the fuck is up with that which was the first like The Party Gets To Know Each Other moments of c3. travis saying asking his wife if he could kiss her in campaign. marisha going way back to the cannonball competition in campaign one. ashley choosing the beauyasha date but also just the silly goat noise matt made. liam adding onto that to compliment matt roleplaying grass so well and then saying his favourite moment was writing a story for laura and reading it to her as caleb for jester. and then matt saying that was his answer, and that his favourite moments of the game are when they find ways to give gifts to each other whether tangible or not. and sam saying his favourite moments have less to do with the story and is more so when he can just. see his friends across the table from him. when marisha perches and when laura and ashley are (badly) drawing dicks and liam saying he loves when sam sneezes and ashley tells him to stop it and just. yeah. they Are an extremely popular online powerhouse, but i’m so happy that they’re also friends building a world together out of gifts to and love for one another.

like i Am so enamoured with the characters and the world of exandria but the moments when you can feel the love that those people have for each other reach out from behind the stained glass of their performances (to steal a metaphor from brennan lee mulligan) are so extremely special and i am endlessly grateful that they decided to share their silly little home game with the world.

#it’s just the. laura and travis’ characters always being supportive of one another when they’re facing hardship #taliesin and marisha consistently making characters who challenge one another and still protect each other relentlessly #all of them being so fond of ashley’s characters always and literally seeing them light up in c1 episodes when ash got to join in person #sam and liam always making characters who offer one another reprieves into kindness that they don’t always get in the campaign setting #liam making orym after falling in love with keyleth as vax #marisha making laudna after matt’s storytelling with delilah and choosing vex as her body double #ashley using ‘i would like to rage’ and matt having kord ask her where she finds her strength #laura and matt always weaving these deeply complicated and emotional interactions between a daughter and a father #the gasps and yells and clapping when matt makes cool sound effects or reveals a map or breaks/ends on a cliff hanger #them ending both campaign 1 and 2 with ‘what a great/nice story’ and travis saying ‘let’s do it again!’#and it’s like. yes yes i love the comics and i’m a fan of tlovm but . seeing this well produced thing that somehow mimics #the feeling i get sitting in my living room laughing with my roommates about my ranger’s giant rat failing to climb stairs #it’s very special it’s very sweet #critical role #sdcc 2023 #taliesin jaffe #travis willingham #marisha ray #ashley johnson #liam o’brien #matthew mercer #laura bailey #sam riegel #cr cast #critical role cast #my posts

God forbid a cast of characters be multifaceted and have actual flaws and unpleasant aspects other than "grr angsty hero" and "whoops i'm so clumsy". Sometimes character dynamics and arcs need to be prioritized above "who would i personally be niceys with irl"

silly episode idea but hear me out

okay well the first part isn’t silly! so the episode is based around a con they are doing where a polyam triad wants to get married and have been writing to senators and stuff for years but nothing has happened. maybe there is a time element that leeway has to happen soon (not sure what that would be yet, maybe someone is sick???)

(obviously polycules aren’t only and are often more than just a closed three-person system, but I’m saying triad right now bc I feel like that would be an easier and more ‘socially acceptable’ gateway into more accepting legislation for diverse relationship dynamics)

the leverage crew, of course, can’t outright change the public perception of poly marriage, but they can use the ‘enemy’s’ tactics against them and slip stuff into legislation without people noticing like they do. it’s slimy and it’s not a permanent fix, but it’s a start, and it gives people the opportunity to see poly marriage in action and that it isn’t as terrifying or pearl-clutching-inducing as they think it would be. there’s a long way to go, but the seeds of change have been sown and they will make sure everything goes as smoothly as possible

this is one of the cases that they will monitor on the back burner over time. some cons can finish within a few hours (the bottle job), and some things they will follow over time and make adjustments when needed- amplify voices and expose corrupt politicians etc

and then it’s just after 3/4 of the way through but the con has been finished? what is going on? this is where the silliness comes in

the camera turns to the ot3 and…

hardison, pulling out three individualized rings: I know it’s not legal yet, and we have the necklaces, but I think rings would be a nice touch

eliot, pulling out an intricately carved box that also has three self-handcrafted rings: dammit hardison (with feeling and tenderness, and damp eyes)

harry pops into the conversation (practically vibrating) excitedly just casually mentioning that he’s a notary and would be honored to marry them to each other if they wanted to

So this is controversial: for the record, I’m anti outdoor cat. That’s a hill I will die on. And I know I will regret posting this, but. I stand by it.

And that’s where things get tricky: so J and I already have a 100% indoor cat. She’s older, persnickety, and extremely opinionated (read: a hater.) And our neighborhood is absolutely full of stray, abandoned, and feral cats of varying types. It’s bad. As a biologist at heart, I weep, for both the wildlife they affect and the cats themselves.

There is a stray who has found our yard this spring, borderline emaciated but otherwise seeming healthy, who has suddenly and inexplicably glued herself to my side (and legs). She is dismal at being a cat and clearly misses the indoor lap of luxury, so I’m left to assume she was dumped at a young age. Which is just cruel. So now I’m left to figure out how to take care of her, with the end goal that she be an indoor cat somewhere….

I do wonder if she can find it in her heart to latch onto another person. She loves laps, head butts, scritches and being held. She doesn’t like it when you try to leave and she is LOUD, so a bit much for my sensitive self. So I’m gonna do some problem solving because she doesn’t deserve the streets.

She is making it all but impossible to attend to my garden. And Zelda does NOT approve of the competition.

I recognize that this mostly happens because Obi-Wan is and always has been a direct foil for Anakin, but I am SO tired of all of Obi-Wan's more canon love interests ending up being more about making commentary on Anakin and Anidala than they are on exploring OBI-WAN. It's just sad and I'm so tired of it and I think that until people are willing to write a romance for Obi-Wan that isn't actually about Anakin at all, Obi-Wan should just be made off-limits for romance plot lines entirely. Leave the man alone, please, I am begging you.

#star wars #obi-wan kenobi #i just finished reading the first half of secrets of the jedi with the siriwan relationship #and holy mother of god was it anidala coded all to hell and back #obi-wan is turned into a mighty prude and siri into this sweet motherly character just to make it work #everything from the reaction obi-wan has on seeing her at the beginning to how quickly the relationship moves to the secrecy #it's all anidala #it's all ABOUT anidala #obi-wan is so ooc in this that it's not even funny #he's not even in character to previous works written about him BY THE SAME AUTHOR #and yet somehow it is STILL miles better than whatever the fuck obitine was supposed to be #where obi-wan is given a love interest specifically designed to be killed off so that they could compare that to anidala #and honestly the scene where she dies is probably their ONLY good scene together #it's certainly the only scene where they seem to genuinely understand or even LIKE each other #like siriwan has obi-wan acting ooc but at least he's not literally misogynistic towards his love interest #unlike the way tcw chose to write him #like yeah sure i really feel the romance in obi-wan calling satine 'hysterical' over her perfectly reasonable political views #and at least siri respects and understands the jedi life and LOVES the jedi order unlike satine #so despite how frustrating siriwan is - obitine is 10x worse still #it makes me SO so glad that tala ended up losing the romantic aspect of her relationship with obi-wan #because you KNOW that that would've just ended up another anidala parallel #again #as obi-wan loses yet another female love interest to death at the hands of the sith. again.#honestly tala's relationship with obi-wan is IMPROVED by the lack of a romantic love interest #there's a lot of interesting meaning in that relationship that i honestly believe would be lost if it had been romantic #obi-wan and love interests just don't seem to mix well in canon or anything canon-adjacent #free my man from terrible romantic storylines that aren't even about him #obitine critical #siriwan critical #anti obitine
