Attack On Titan Final (Final?) Thoughts
With AoT now done done, I really want to give my final thoughts (season 4 part 27):
If it weren't for Attack on Titan, I would have never become as active talking about media online as I have.
I would have never met, talked to and followed cool people like @raelis1, @momtaku, @ghostmartyr, @tatakaeeren and many others, some who fell out of love with the series and some who yet love it in its (im)perfection.
(I actually started as an anon on @momtaku's blog.)
I currently have almost 1300 followers, most of who followed me for AoT.
For 10 years, the series has been an active, weekly/monthly/in general periodic part of my life and for all of the issues I take with it personally, I loved most of the time I followed this story.
I loved theorising about and analysing this delibrate (and less delibrate and flawed) mess.
It's a compelling and memorable first long-form story by a young author and I'd say you can do much much worse (but also much better) for your first outing.
And to think, I went into the first episode expecting to hate it because of an unfortunate encounter with a fan of the series. But from there I caught up with the anime and then the manga, followed by quickly getting endlessly fascinated by it – and from the start I was fascinated by what I considered the flaws of the series as much as the positives.
And since getting into the series, I really developed my taste: I truly love dark stuff with a heart buried within it. The definition of shock value differs so much from person to person, but to me AoT *generally* had a good balance of both.
It is a B-movie (horror) that also has sincere and complicated thoughts about humanity. It uses all the tropes in bad visual novels and manga aimed at teens and up, but sometimes also turns them upside down in really cool ways.
I think it ended up a slave to unfortunate tropes within its ilk of series, but only two stories have ever come close to make me invested like this one.
And for the most tl;dr version of my thoughts on the series, for probably the last time (might make this a yearly thing, might not; at some point I also want to finally redo my Favorite Character List from back when I started this blog):
I love it with all of its warts. I think the anime ending really solidified this very specific opinion about it I have.
All of the contradictions within this series' themes and characters are fascinating. And all of the straight-forward ideas powerful and burning fiercely.
Not new, not original, but to me absolutely still memorable and still meaningful.
And I have been saying this since season 1: I think the anime 100% ended up being better than the manga. If I'll ever be able to get a full version of the story, I'll be getting all of the anime.
(It's also better in case Isayama ever goes full trash person, but supporting the anime has its own issues.)

Attack on Titan - Doesn't this scene imply Eren's Titan had another ability . . . ?
In season 1 episode 10, right after Eren transformed into a titan to protect Mikasa, Armin and himself from being hit by a cannonball, within the surrounding boundary of the titan skeleton Armin saw purple flowers on the ground that he said had not been there before.
I thought it was interesting how the story quickly turned away from this scene and an explanation for these mysterious flowers was never brought up again in that season and the following seasons. But the question of where did those flowers come from never left my mind.
Forget the symbolism of the flowers for a moment and let's just look at the scene for what it is - a plant with flowers appeared out of thin air within the area under his Titan . If that plant wasn't already present in that space (even in seed form) than wouldn't this scene imply that Eren's Titan (perhaps because Eren has the founder in him also) has an additional ability that can either bring physical things from the past or future (if we are to assume this plant existed during those time periods), or his titan can actually bring things into existence? Of course I don't think Eren was aware of this ability, hence why he never used it again.

Attack on Titan Finale - A First Thoughts Commentary
(spoiler alert i loved it)
(i legit don't say much for the first forty minutes, because yes, the battles are great, we knew that, WE AIN'T HERE FOR THAT ON THE FIRST WATCH! that kind of appreciation comes later)
(i also refer to "isayama" doing this and that- it's because he contributed; i obviously don't know if he made these changes personally, i mean the writers)
-marina inoue kills it. she nails it.
-The Baby(TM)
-armin is so pattable. you just want to pat his lil head, from child to young adult
-i'm just saying, it's not anyone's fault that some people thought historia's child is eren's. they're not, but it's very oddly placed. i guess it's a death/life parallel? eren can't have a future with mikasa while historia plans a future. eren supposedly dies, and a child is born?
-THEY MADE IT SO THAT WE SEE EREN SEEING MIKASA SMILING AS HIS LAST MOMENT AAHH. he looks so peaceful too
-i guess the new script is coming now? 'cause nothing has been new so far
-dude MARINA INOUE SHINES, SHE'S SO GOOD, AND IT MATTERS, IT MATTERS SO MUCH IN ORDER TO GIVE ARMIN THE GRAVITY HE NEEDS TO CARRY THE ENDING ON HIS SHOULDERS OMG THANK YOU MARINA INOUE
-the exposition/explanation is so much more seamless in anime form, truly.
-they kept the controversial "eren caused the death of his mum" choice, ha
-armin's fist is so smol on eren's face
-THE SEA TURNING INTO BLOOD NICE
-OOOOH ARMIN GETTING ANGRY WITH EREN'S MASSACRE NIIIIICE
-not isayama spoon-feeding us eren's intentions, lol. nice
-A SLAVE TO FREEDOM YESSSS
-I FUCKING LOVE THE ADDITIONAL SCRIPT
-WHAT! "BECAUSE I'M AN IDIOT"?! THE COMPLETE DECONSTRUCTION OF EREN OH MY GOD
-ARMIN SAYING HE'S THOUGHT OF DOING THE SAME AND EREN NOT BELIEVING HIM IN THAT PAINED TONE OF VOICE BECAUSE ARMIN IS HIS SHINING BEACON OF LIGHT
-OH MY GOD, THEY'LL BE TOGETHER IN HELL FOR KILLING HUMANITY?! WHOA THAT'S A NEW SCRIPT ALRIGHT! i like it. i've been joking that armin is eren's villain origin story, BUT GUESS WHAT, NOW IT'S CANON. and it's also great because it brings armin on the same level with eren, which he should be
-i wonder how people are reacting to this
-WE COME FULL CIRCLE! EREN BEING JUST A HUMAN WITH GREAT POWER TO EREN ACKNOWLEDGING THAT HE IS JUST A HUMAN WITH GREAT POWER
-"i'll be waiting for you. in hell.' JESUS ISAYAMA WENT FOR THEIR THROATS THERE
-isayama be like "for everyone thinking armin is innocent: guess what."
-"we'll be together forever" DUDE ANIME ARMIN IS MORE OBSESSED WITH EREN THAN MIKASA HERSELF
-i love how the new dialogue is still a little messy but in a different way??? and i say that with the utmost affection
-oh good, mikasa continues to preserve eren's head with the power of love and no further explanation (/affectionate)
-this is marina inoue's episode, we're all just living in it
-OOOOHHHH YMIR IMAGINING LETTING FRITZ GET KILLED AND PROTECTING HER DAUGHTERS AFTER MIKASA'S ACTIONS SO SHE GETS RELEASE, SHOWING HOW SHE COULD LET GO OF HER LOVE, NICE
-nice of hell to let its residents symbolically possess birds to visit their loved ones (/affectionate)
-i'm sniffling

en fin decidi este...despedirlo??? dibujando esa escena iconica que me dejo impactada el momento en que la vi, nomas iba a hacer la escena de eren agarrando a armin pero me sobro espacio asi que lo llene con las expresiones traumadas de armin xD
