I wonder what God thinks of us individually. I’d be curious to hear his perspective. I wanna hear it from him personally, I’d like to hear his tone and cadence, the verbiage he’d use in his explaining. I’m curious to know more of God as an individual. Who was he before all this? What does he enjoy most about his creation?
My perception of God is shifting. I start to see him less as a creator, and more of the experience. God is the fibre of existence in itself, not a figure outside of the universe observing, as a snowdome maker might observe a single snowdome in his workshop. God is the snowdome maker as much as he is the snowdome and all that exists within it, for what exists outside of God?
God is creator and creation, all things are One.

On the topic of the Helkkja and their magical species, there is another odd denizen of their islands that has popped up from time to time. While others live only on their forbidden island and thus remain a mystery, this is a species that has been encountered at sea and even roaming other lands! The Snowdome is certainly a memorable species to encounter, as there are few things in the wilds like it! Like a crystalline orb with legs, slowly scuttling across the ice shelves and snowy tundras. Its transparent body hides nothing, revealing it to be practically empty! At first, you would suspect that magic is the only thing that allows such an anomaly to survive, but this design is not foreign to nature! The Snowdome is much like a jellyfish, though giant and terrestrial, with no familiar organs and a whole lot of tentacles. It is essentially a hollow sac of layered membranes, creating the domed "body" that is more like a stomach with a toothless maw hanging below. Radiating from this central mass are a variety of tentacles, each with their own job. Obviously the lower ones that support it act like feet, allowing it to walk in any direction it chooses without ever needing to turn around or reorient itself. Around them are a nest of crimson tendrils, which seem to be like tongues, tasting the air and environment to understand what is nearby and what is food. Up above are more tentacles, some with fronds that help it detect changes in the air. The longest of the bunch end in bulbous spouts, writhing and moving like blind snakes. While the others help with navigation, these ones are for hunting.
The Snowdome has no stingers, but it has another way to immobilize prey. These long tentacles pipe a freezing gas from its central body, and spray it from their fleshy nozzles to engulf its victims. These clouds are unbearably cold, with chilling droplets that seem to cut through the warmest layers and freeze you to the core. Those swallowed by this gas are practically frozen solid, too cold to move or flee. When prey is slowed down, the Snowdome takes its time to thoroughly douse them with this gas, until they are truly an ice block. Once sufficiently frozen, it simply walks over top the icy statue and swallows it whole. They will be transported to its transparent dome, which acts as the Snowdome's stomach. The chilling air within its body contains a digestive component, which slowly eats away at ice and flesh. This is released in high concentrations when food is detected within its stomach, so that it may melt them down into nutrients over the course of days. It is certainly a grim sight to see, frozen victims on display within its stomach, trapped in the last pose they took before being doomed to digestion. Watching a Snowdome work in the wild is rather unsettling, as they do not move or function like most other animals. They have no brains to think with, with no concerns to ponder. They are simply a freezing stomach that is guided by crude senses, moving only in the direction of food. If you have the chance to spy one, you will see it walk in a mindless march, following whatever scent or trail the tendrils detect. It doesn't try to avoid obstacles, it simply runs into them then responds to its senses. It will climb over the barrier if it can, or it will slowly slide alongside until it finds a way around. There is no thinking to this process, it just figures out which tendrils detect an obstacle and which ones don't. It is all in the pursuit of prey, which can change in a second if it comes across a trail that is more promising. A stronger scent or louder presence may trigger it to change targets, and it will do so without thought. People who have observed Snowdomes have said that it is quite clear when you have gotten too close or when the creature senses your presence. The wandering orb will suddenly start crawling in your direction, abandoning its old trail in hopes of a closer meal. If that happens, running away isn't enough. You have to get it off your trail, or else it will just keep following you no matter what. Horror stories speak of hunters encountering a Snowdome, then fleeing back to camp. Confident that the beast is long gone, they go to sleep only for this icy phantom to arrive late in the night and devour them all.
It is advised to cross the paths of other animals, or find game trails to distract it with. Some use blood or rotting fluids from old kills and then spray it all over the land, that way the Snowdome is forced to follow numerous routes that all lead to dead ends. One tale claims you can create a circle of warm blood and trap one of these creatures in an endless loop, following the trail that never ends. I imagine sooner or later the scent will fade, or another beast will get close enough for its tendrils to sense. Regardless, they are a species that reminds every traveler to cover your trail and be careful what you leave behind. You never know what attention you will attract. As mindless as they are, I imagine some wonder what purpose the Helkkja could have for such creatures. They just walk and eat, what good is that? Well, some say that is good enough for the witches! The stories say that the Snowdomes are sent out from their island onto other lands so that they may capture victims and bring them back to their masters. Being nothing but membrane and air, they easily float on the water, letting the tide take them wherever. Their freezing gas perfectly preserves prey, which is then swallowed and carried back home. They say spotting a Snowdome at sea is bad luck, as they ferry poor souls to the waiting clutches of the witches, and thus death is not far behind. However, that isn't the only use these creatures are said to have. While other species may shudder at the endless cold within the dome of these creatures, the Helkkja would actually feel right at home! Legends of the Helkkja suggest that they not only live comfortably at freezing temperatures, but need such cold to live. Whatever arts they performed or deal they struck makes them immune to the arctic environment but deathly weak to heat and fire. Since their frozen island is so far north and constantly barraged by icy winds, they never fear of it getting too warm. But if a witch wishes to visit other lands, then the warmer climate could kill them. So instead, they use the Snowdomes as a mode of transportation, riding within its freezing stomach to keep their bodies at the right temperature. Their magic lets them control these mindless sacs with ease, and a transparent body means they can easily see where they are going. The maw lets them pick up objects from the outside, or spit them out when they are done. Some witches are said to practically set up house right inside a Snowdome, having everything they need to live comfortably within. Other stories say that they setup ritual circles and ceremonies within one of these creatures whenever they need to shield themselves from the wind. It just seems like the possibilities are endless! I must say it is a clever design! To have a creature that is essentially the perfect sealed environment on legs! I wonder if they can make them for warmth instead of cold, as I would buy one in an instant! To have a personal bubble of constant warmth, with no worry of wind or cold! It would make these arctic trips so easy! I got to find me some witches and see if such a thing is possible! Wait, would that mean this version breathes fire instead of ice? Hmmmmmmm, a possible problem...       Chlora Myron Dryad Natural Historian

Haven't done a new vinyl round-up for a while and i've bought loads of new stuff lately. Some new, some used, some good and some fucking awful...
Tumblr media
Start with something good... this was just a random EP I found in a bargain bin in Psychotron. It says Jungle Vibes 2 on the back but all the rest is in french, so I got the man to play the opening bars of the first track and thought, yes, having this for seven quid!
Never heard of any of the acts on there, but French drum & bass from 1995, a time when they were also making some quality hip hop (Solar, Cam, etc.) had to be worth a go and it most definitely was. Quite liquid in it's sound on the first side and a bit more jungle on the second, and quality breaks all the way through. A really good find!

I mean, there's not much to say about this is there? It's the London Philharmonic, playing music from the original Star Wars and lets be fair, you all know what that is going to sound like.
Second side has some other orchestral space stuff on, like 2001 and some other random space themes. But the opening track is full of sample friendly cuts from the opening speech to the cascading effects - perfect for scratching.
Now if i could only scratch....
Star Wars by The London Philharmonic Orchestra

This was another punt that almost fully pays off. Not totally, but it's got some good beats on it...
I know if Swindle as a grime MC, which has never been my thing. As much as a i love hip hop, as i get older, i find i don't really like much past the 90's. But they play Swindle on BBC6Music a bit and he has moved from that dirty, grime sound in to a bit more jazz based stuff and looking at the artwork on the cover and the guests, i figured it might be a bit more jazzy. And to be fair, it is. Quite heavy horns riffs stabs and breaks, people like Kojey Radical, Loyle Carner, and Greentea Peng, Poppy Adjuda, Ghetts on vocals and it's actually OK. Very UK hip-hop jazz type of ting! (as the cool kids probably don't say anymore) There's a couple on there that i already knew and have dropped in a mix before, so I was chuffed that they were there. Plus it's on clear blue vinyl, so yeah, happy with this. Especially as it was only £6.
The New World by Swindle
Tumblr media
Just the original on one side, which on its own is quality. But then on the other is the full Seven Minutes of Madness Mix by Coldcut which is just a fucking banger and put Coldcut and Ninja Tune on the map.
Paid In Full by Eric B & Rakim
Tumblr media
I'm not normally a massive fan of live albums. They're often not the greatest of recordings and the live crowd puts me off. But I had a chat with the man about this and figured that Gong should really be heard live as they are that sort of band, so i gave it a go. To be honest, you can hardly tell it's recorded live, but you can almost smell the cheap weed, patchouli oil and stinky hippies through the record - which is a compliment, as i wish i was there with them. Free loving, getting high and prog grooving to the sound of Gong in a field in the seventies.... I mean, how much fun does that sound?!
Live at Sheffield 1974 by Gong
Tumblr media
So i got chatting to a guy a few months back who turned up for the vinyl night at my local. He was the same age as me, had loads of 90's metal and grunge band logos tattooed down his arm and he started telling me about his son, Lewis Watkiss, who had been accidently killed at the local snowdome as he wasn't wearing a helmet. And i'm like yeah, man, i feel it. I've been through similar shit and we're not supposed to outlive our kids and we had a pint to the memory of our boys. But to make something positive out the conversation, he tells me that Lewis was a gifted saxophonist and that his teacher and one of his heroes, Xhosa Cole, had made a track for him and it was being sold for charity. And i couldn't say no, even if i wanted to. They needed to presell a certain number to get it pressed and i bought it without even hearing it. And it's actually really good. Not my normal sort of jazz, as i'm not a big sax man, but it was his and that's what matters. Its broken it to three suites and each of them build nicely. The second side has a deep house remix from a local girl and this was one of the best £15 i have spent on a record.
Louis' Teenage Spirit by LJW Music Fusion
Tumblr media
This came on the radio a couple of days prior and i remember wondering if i had it on CD, as i used to do some work for Ninja Tune and used to get all the singles and a fair few of the albums sent to me for a couple of years. I never ended up looking for it but I did randomly find it in the bargain bin and figured i'd pick it up.
Just a 12" single, but it's jazzy, soulful a bit Nuyorican and yeah, quality.
Horizon by the Cinematic Orchestra feat. Niara Scarlett
Tumblr media
I first got in to Tom Waits about fifteen years ago and specifically, the three early 80's albums that almost make up a loose trilogy around a guy called Frank who joins the navy, sails around the world, comes home, tries to settle down, can't handle it and fucks off again. That's the simple version of what is a collection of sea shanties, drunken laments, spoken word, free jazz, heartfelt ballads and musical story telling of the finest order. And if you know it already, then i don't need to explain anymore.
I've been looking for them on vinyl for years, but no fucker is selling them. So when i got the email from Rough Trade saying they were being re-pressed, i put my order in and got all three on the day of release!
Swordfishtrombones by Tom Waits
Tumblr media
Yeah, hoped this was going to be good, but it's not. It's shit. Meh, them's the breaks.
Public Pressure by The Yellow Magic Orchestra
Tumblr media
This was ok. Kinda reminded me of the time i was in Paris with the wife and a friend of ours. We had gone to see Bjork in concert and the night before, we went out for dinner in this little side street bistro, about six foot across, all wood panels and probably about 10 covers at the most, split in two by a mezzanine floor. One chef in the tiny back kitchen, a little chinese girl serving, and a lothario of a maitre D who spent most of the night chatting to us on our table, flirting with my mate and stealing his cigarettes. We had steak with foie gras (yeah, i know, but i had to try it), a plate of frogs legs, some goats cheese thing and were introduced to chilled red wine, which considering how hot it was that evening, went down a storm. But the reason this record reminds of that night is because taking up half the floor space on the ground floor were two guys, huddled together in a corner, one on an upright piano and the other on a double bass, playing easy, simple jazz. Nothing too complex, just easy going piano and bass stuff. And that is very much what this is.
I can almost taste that chilled beaujolais and Benson golds...

Weekly Vocajournal #19 (15/01 - 22/01)
Slower week today, so I went back to check on releases I missed during hiatus and found an absolute gem:
youtube
Kimizima Sui - Devil on our shoulder. (ft. Kazehiki, flower)
From a 'genre' of vocalsynth songs I've grown to dearly love but have yet find a name to, featuring lyrics sung as if talking, vocals tuned low and breathy, and an overall song structure that prioritizes atmosphere and rhythm over melody. Think sheeno mirin's stuff. Haven't heard much of Kazehiki, but their vb range is fantastic here, from soft and airy in the verse to powerful for the chorus. Flower's role in the song is lowkey, but the support is very much felt.
delta - Dare no Tame no Ashi ka (ft. flower)
Speaking of songs in the same 'genre' as the last one, this is also amazing. delta is one of the producers that tunes flower low, dark and subdued, which compliments the fantastic, classy piano melody playing in the higher ranges. Great contrast between talkloid-esque verses and more melodic choruses, and a bittersweet, melancholic atmosphere.
Uzuki Sara - Hanabi (ft. Yuzuki Yukari, Kagamine Len)
I'm a sucker for those 2010's bright, feel-good-to-the-point-of-saccharine house tracks (think Zedd's Clarity), and even better when they feature Yukari. Len being used as a backing vocal for Yukari is not common, but it's not a bad choice here.
0-9 (OPA) - 剥き出しインセキュリティ、或いは、崩壊前夜のワンダーランド (ft. MEIKO)
Properly tuned V1s are a treat for the ears, and this Meiko is sure one of them! She's brimming with power and energy and nailing this cool technopop tune.
Hitoshizuku × Yama△ - Nonsense Game (ft. KAITO, Kamui Gakupo)
Rare combo of VBs from this producer! Love how they worked Gakupo relatively high on his range, and how growly everyone is, probably based on PARED's original version. Also love the contrast between Suzunosuke's illustration and the chibi sections.
Oshibacomyaku - Post (ft. RIME)
Brought to my attention by @/daily-vocaloid's post here. Manages to incorporate some surprisingly distorted synths and a relatively loud, grainy section in the middle while maintaining a chill and positive atmosphere. Love the mixing and effects on RIME's vocals.
Locust - Batsujirushi (ft. flower)
I have no idea how this guy has managed to upload 3 songs this year with consistent quality, one of the more prolific rookie producers for sure. This one is my favorite of the January uploads for sure: Plucked upright bass, saxophone, piano, great flower tuning, real classy 2+ minutes.
COKO Corner (lots of COKO this week!):
ChouchouP/papiyon - AVOCADO
Carlos Hakamada - COKO is HERE!!!
UtsuP - dislike
toa - Like a Fantasy
Other Cool Stuff:
Yugika - Eureka Replica (ft. Meika Mikoto)
Kashii Moimi - Secret Side (ft. KAITO)
jon-YAKITORIY - THUNDERBOLT (ft. Hatsune Miku) (Miku 2023 JP Tour Theme Song)
Kashuu Ryousuke - 芒畑 (ft. Yuzuki Yukari)
GoBS - SnowDome (ft. Otomachi Una Sweet)
FuwariP - Toumei ni Natta Monogatari (ft. Satou Sasara)
INE - Relay (ft. RIME)
◈*Yukuewat - Hoiyoho (ft. Kochie, Anna Nyui, Mine Laru)

I want to write about something,
But the pen can't move without an ink, the ink is invisible to the eyes, the inspiration is nowhere to be found.
I want to be with someone,
who cares about the details in his snowdome, an opinionated man full of wit, someone's face I recognize but knew so little about.
I want to share this with you in mind
The book I read, the movie star's leather jacket, the conversational clouds.
I want to try but am afaid to...
Loose the words left unsaid, then cope by wrong answers, but I hope you'd be the muse to my poems.
Maybe the inspiration is out there, or did I already found you?
