It certainly could be.

The new stage adaptation of “Summer Stock” at the East Haddam theater has plenty to recommend it in terms of the canny script and the hummable songs. But it’s the dancing that leaves the biggest impression.

The show is jam-packed with choreography from Donna Feore, who also directs, that is thrillingly executed by the cast.

We’re talking: Gravity-defying kicks. Head-spinning turns. Male dancers lifting and tossing and catching the female ones. It runs the gamut from Cossack-dance athleticism to soft shoe grace, tap precision to Lindy hop energy.

How the cast manages to sing after executing these (literally) breathtaking numbers, I have no idea.

And how do they make it through two performances on some days? Amazing.

Also amazing: the fact that they do all this on Goodspeed’s small stage without making the space feel cramped.

So, yes, the dancing is phenomenal. But there’s more to the show than that.

This stage version of “Summer Stock” — which is enjoying its world premiere at Goodspeed — is inspired by the 1950 MGM movie starring Judy Garland and Gene Kelly. Writer Cheri Steinkellner, though, has reimagined the piece in many ways, making it better, stronger and propelled by a more modern sensibility. (Steinkellner’s writing credits range from “Cheers” to the Broadway adaptation of “Sister Act.”)

The foundational story, though, remains the same: A no-nonsense young woman named Jane is trying to save her family farm. Her actress sister (named Gloria in the version at Goodspeed) brings her compatriots to the farm to rehearse a show. Jane first spars with and then starts falling for Gloria’s beau Joe, the production’s director.

Steinkellner has also changed up the score, to great effect. While some tunes from the movie remain, she has pulled others that are in the public domain (such as “Accentuate the Positive,” “Paper Moon” and “It Had to Be You”), and she has woven them perfectly into various plot points and important emotional moments.

As director, Feore makes sure the whole enterprise has a dynamic spirit. It’s a story and a production that brims with optimism and cheerfulness.

Leading the cast is Corbin Bleu, who became famous with his work in “High School Musical” and has gone on to star in several Broadway shows, as Joe. Bleu is a true, and truly talented, triple-threat. He has a warm, welcoming presence as an actor; he also brings an authority to Joe so you believe he’s someone the actors respect and will follow. Bleu’s singing is strong and lustrous, and his dancing — particularly his tremendous tap ability — is … wow.

Arguably the biggest scene-stealer here is Veanne Cox, as the wealthy, snooty owner of huge property surrounding Jane’s. The way she trills dialogue can turn anything into a punchline. She can wave her arms about as her character repeats “l’amour” and generate audience laughs. When her character falls for the egoistic actor Montgomery Leach (played by J. Anthony Crane with Barrymore flair), Cox burbles with girlish romantic giddiness.

Danielle Wade does her own take on the Judy Garland role. She gives Jane a swagger and a tough façade that reveals a more human self during the course of the story. Wade’s most important feature is her voice, which is potent whether she’s finessing a ballad or powering through a big number. While she can’t compete with Garland’s renowned version of “Get Happy” (who could?), Wade does a good job in the number — choreographed and costumed in an homage to the original — that serves as the culmination of the production.

Arianna Rosario gets to play an interesting arc at Gloria. At first, Gloria seems to be a blithe, self-centered actress, but she later shows that she is quite the problem-solving producer. Rosario makes the transformation believable, as if Gloria is finally letting her real self come through.

The scenic design by Wilson Chin suggests the various elements of a Connecticut River Valley farm in the 1950s while still allowing room for the cast to burst into all of those big dance numbers. And the costume design by Tina McCartney provides a fun and functional take on country clothing of the era.

I will say that the second act could be tightened up (we don’t need to see so many beats of the rehearsal process), but, in total, this “Summer Stock” is sensational." [source]

my sister has me watching this french reality dating show and the subtitles always take a little while to kick in so at the beginning i'm just like mes amis...i do not know what you are yelling at each other...can u fight a little slower...pour moi...un petit ralentissement s'il vous plaît...un peu plus d'articulation...fâchez-vous si vous insistez, mais tranquillement...

you aren’t sure exactly what you like about him, but you know that you like him. it’s something that your friends will never let you live down.

you don’t blame them for it—their teasing and the never-ending questions that are thrown at you every time they happen to catch you stealing a glance at him. your infatuation confuses you, too, because suna rintaro is a weird guy—certainly not someone most people would have a crush on.

he comes to class in his pajamas, pokémon pants and a plain hoodie—the hood pulled over his head, scrunched around the edges, the strings tied into a messy bow. you rarely ever see his hair but on the infrequent occasion that you do, it’s never brushed and the dark strands are either tangled or sticking up, out of place. every so often a pair of black-framed lenses are perched on the bridge of his nose, sliding down the slope with the downward tilt of his head. suna has little regard for his appearance and a clear lack of professionalism, but still, you like him.

he sits in the third of four rows in the classroom, the one in front of you. the screen of his laptop is always dimmed but not so much that you can’t see what’s on it. the device never displays the course material, rather, it often plays an episode of whatever anime suna’s currently watching. you’ve never gotten the chance to see if his eyes flit up to glance at the projector or to follow along with the professor’s written examples, but the absence of anything to write with or on gives you the impression that he doesn’t. suna’s priorities aren’t straight, but still, you like him.

he eats alone, at least whenever you see him in the dining hall. you’ve noticed that he leans toward the build-your-own-sandwich place, though you have seen him swap out the subs for a salad or whatever homestyle meal was being served. one thing holds true for whatever he chooses to eat—he stuffs as much food into his mouth as he can. it can be cute, the way his cheeks puff up and his lips pout out, but his technique leads to an inevitable mess. any sauce or crumbs left behind on his face are wiped away with the back of his hand instead of a napkin. suna doesn’t know the first thing about table manners, but still, you like him.

you like suna and you’ve yet to figure out why.

you plan to change that today—the liking him part or uncovering the reason behind your feelings, you’re not sure, but your professor has given you the perfect excuse to figure out what the hell is going on.

“what are you doing?” your friend asks, the rustling of your papers catching her attention. you don’t answer but your eyes do dart down and slightly to the right where suna’s sitting. words aren’t needed for her to know what’s running through your head. “seriously?”

the girl easily pieces together that you’re on your way to recruit suna as your partner for the upcoming assignment. so does your companion sitting beside her. he speaks up this time. “you’re going to risk your grade over a crush?”

“it might not be that bad,” you shrug, the weight of your bag making the action more difficult than it should have been. “i’ll talk to you two later.”

they share a knowing glance before waving you off. you can feel their eyes burning a hole into the back of your head as you make your way down the step and past your classmates to steal the seat next to suna. as usual, his eyes are glued to the screen ahead of him, intently following the events of the animated show playing on it.

you’ve never sat this close to him before. your proximity warrants you a closer look at him. he looks more delicate than you ever thought he was—skin that seems as though it was carved from marble and incredibly unique greyish yellow eyes. he’s pretty and you could stare at him forever but you decide that would be creepy. instead, you lightly tap his shoulder to gain his attention.

suna’s finger reaches out to click the space bar on his keyboard to pause his anime. he turns to you, countenance blank.

“suna, right?” you ask despite knowing his name. “do you want to work on the paper together?”

a short moment passes before his reply. “sure.”

“great!” you’re not so sure his agreeance is a good thing or if it’ll end with you doing the entirety of the essay, but he doesn’t need to know that you and just about everyone else doubt his work ethic. “so, we can pick any topic that falls under the umbrella of-”

“the edo period,” he finishes your sentence.

you blink and nod, surprised at suna’s correct interruption. you wouldn’t admit it to your friends, but it’s become a habit for your eyes to wander to suna during class. you were sure he spent the entire time up until now preoccupied with his anime. you look to the board—it isn’t written there. your gaze whizzes over to his laptop—he hasn’t changed tabs on the device. he must have actually been listening to the lecture.

so you do pay attention in here, you think with a breathy laugh.

“it was a filler episode so i took one of my earbuds out.” his unexpected statement makes you stiffen. did you say that out loud? right beside him? you turn to apologize for the jab but suna doesn’t look offended; he’s grinning. “i’m usually not that attentive.”

you huff out a laugh. despite the comment, suna’s unforeseen diligence—albeit short-lived—is enough to give you a little hope about the paper. it’s possible that he isn’t as unproductive as he appears—maybe his priorities aren’t askew.

the scale that is your like of suna seems to be weighing heavily on the ‘you totally like him!!’ side. you clear your throat and shake your head to rid your mind of thoughts of him. “anything specific you want to write about?”

you and suna spend the last few minutes of class discussing your project. he brings up multiple interesting topics that the two of you could explore. it’s impressive and he exceeds any expectations you had of him. you can feel your pulse quickening with every word he speaks until it jumps at your professor’s dismissal of class.

for the first time ever, you’re not rushing to get out of the building.

as you pack up your belongings, your traitorous eyes drift to suna’s figure. you didn’t notice it earlier, perhaps because you arrived later than him this once, but his usual attire is traded in for some still comfy sweatpants and an oversized crewneck today. you voice your surprise. “no pokémon pajamas today, huh?”

he shakes his head, a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips. “sorry to disappoint.”

you’re far from disappointed. while you have no problem with his typical apparel, the simple outfit looks good on him. the sleeves hang low on his arms, hiding his hands so that he has to make an effort to grab anything. it’s cute, you think. the ensemble isn’t much of a step up from what he typically wears, but maybe he isn’t as careless about his appearance as you thought.

interacting with him closely has done nothing to shake your unexplainable feelings for the man. if anything, all it did was make you tiptoe farther and farther to the edge of the diving board. there’s one more thing you have to see before you dive into the deep end of what is suna rintaro.

Public Relations Internship Part A, Customer Swap Stories #2

My name is Michael and I am currently a junior public relations major at Penn State.

When the university announced they partnered with Swap Tech Enterprise (STE) and launched the “Semester in Their Shoes” program, I knew that I wanted to take advantage of the opportunity. To say my parents were shocked was an understatement, but they also knew the terms I agreed too when applying for the program and told to stick it out as May would come soon enough and I could get back to my body. Figuring I had nothing better to do, I prepped for my first day on the job tomorrow. Personally I think there isn’t enough meta about Adricat being a girl coded character and you should make one too

Okay, so when I say "female coded," I mean that Adrien's character fulfils the role that female characters usually have done in media. He's the love interest, he's the emotional support. He's sensitive and he's emotional. He's the heart of the team. Marinette on the other hand is a "male coded" character. She's a leader, she comes up with strategies and plans, and she is the brains of the operation. I used to think that was really cool, the way they subverted gender roles and allowed the characters to shine as characters instead of putting them in a box. Marinette was a strong and determined person, but she also had moments of weakness and vulnerability. Adrien seemed like the usual trope of the damsel in distress, but he was also literally Chat Noir, who often escaped his own situation and whose arc was about him breaking of his father himself.

But then they leaned too far into it, and it just became a gender swapped version of the same tired tropes that we've all seen. Marinette became The Leader™ who can do no wrong and doesn't need to do that emotional support shit for her partner when he needs it. Adrien lost any and all agency in his own story, and effectively just became the damsel in distress who had to sit there and look pretty as he waited for Marinette the knight to come and save him. I mean, you can't get more on the nose than this.

(And yeah, this is supposed to be the class' fanfiction and not representative of what the show was building up to, but this is literally what ended up happening.)

His choices became more and more irrelevant, and his feelings became more and more unimportant, until the entire Ladynoir dynamic became Marinette being The Leader™ who doesn't need to tell Chat Noir anything and doesn't owe him anything, and Chat Noir became the emotional support who is always attentive and considerate of Ladybug's needs to the point of invalidating his own. His feelings of sadness at being left out of the loop and being pushed away by Ladybug ultimately did not matter.

And then Season 5 spent its time setting up a rivalry between Marinette and Gabriel over what's best for Adrien. The fight wasn't Ladybug and Chat Noir against Monarch, but Marinette vs. Gabriel, and whoever won got to take Adrien home as a prize. Adrien's agency was diminished throughout Season 5 and annihilated entirely in the Season 5 finale, where he spends the confrontation with his father locked away in a white room while Marinette has to take the fight to Gabriel and confront him on Adrien's behalf. And he is sound asleep far away from the conflict while Marinette and Gabriel fight over what's best for Adrien instead of him, you know, deciding that himself.

I mean, the finale could not have been clearer about it.

At least he's there in the dream lmao

And the end of Recreation reveals that Marinette is lying to Adrien about his father so as to protect him. Because apparently Adrien won't be able to control his emotions and needs someone else to make his decisions for him. Because clearly, he would be too emotional and wouldn't be able to make his own informed choices. And it's quite common for women to be told that they are too emotional and so the big strong man should make the decisions for them. So the female coded character is treated like his emotions are a weakness and a burden and like he requires other people to make his choices for him.

And so, Marinette the knight defeats the evil Gabriel, saves the helpless Adrien from his evil father, and they kiss in the sunset, and all is well. Except Adrien isn't being allowed to make informed choices about his own life and everyone around him is denying his autonomy, but he only exists to be the trophy for whoever won in the Marinette-Gabriel rivalry (which Marinette only won because Gabriel forfeited anyway), so he doesn't get to make choices and have any of those inconvenient emotions like anger or sadness, and all really is well.

Thomas Astruc even mentioned on Twitter that Chat Blanc was the reason why Adrien could not participate in the finale. And the implication is that he couldn't be there because he would be too emotional and would destroy the world. So Marinette had to do it for him, and Adrien had to be removed from his own story and put away in London with nightmares so that he wouldn't get in the way with his emotions. So yeah. The female coded character was reduced into being a damsel in distress and was told his emotions rendered him incapable of making his own choices because he wouldn't be able to control them.

I think that Hoongjoong would be amazed by your height. Have you seen him standing next to Yunho or Mingi? Our cute little captain would be so giddy standing next to you. He would blush regularly and just look up at you with heart eyes. He would love everything about you and your height. Maybe in the beginning he would be very shy around you, thinking someone as tall and gorgeous as you would not want to be with him. But as soon as you two admitted to your feelings for each other and started going out he would be over the moon. He would get such a confidence boost out of calling you his significant other and would use every opportunity to show you off. He would totally love to dress you up. He gets so much inspiration for clothing and designes by looking at you. He would definetly try to convince you to model for him and not being able to decide if he wanted to dress you up or take all of your clothes of right this moment.

Seonghwa

I see Seonghwa as someone who is a bit more traditional and wanting someone smaller than him. So when he saw you for the first time you absolutely rocked his world. Yeosang

He started liking you for who you are. Your height does not bother him at all. He is more along the lines of "huh, they are tall, even taller than me, so what?" He would definetly ask to wear your clothes, loving how much more comfortable they are. Even if you argued that it was unreasonable he would shut you up by saying something along the lines that it must be because they were yours. Making you blush all the time but him being clueless why. When you would chill in the dorms he would put your legs in his lap, muttering to himself how long they are and that they seem to go on for ever.

San

San is pretty much like Yeosang. He loves you for who you are. Your height does not matter to him. On the contrary he would use every opportunity to show you of. But of course wearing some of his clothes. This man is possessive. Walking around in public with you and seeing just how many heads you turned, even if you did not noticed, while wearing something of his would make him puff his chest in pride. He would be super smug about it as well. He had this amazing partner at his side and they were tall as hell as well. He often felt like he found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

Mingi

He would have started a conversation with you for the exact same reason as Yunho. With you being really close to him in height he would have made sure that he was still taller than you. He loves to lean over and smack a kiss onto you, it does not matter what you are doing or even of you were talking, he does it because he can without any struggle. Another one who would love to swap clothes, he sometimes would buy clothes with the thought that you both would like to wear it. Cuddling with him would often include him lying down on you and wrapping himself up in your legs. You know the Twin Tower head spin? He would try to make a new move including all three of you, but after some head bumping and full belly laughters you soon had to give up on that idea. You still appreciate his love and care to include you as much as possible in his life.

Wooyoung

Wooyoung loves you more than anything. He loves how tall you are but would sometimes still bitch about how life is unfair. He often uses your height as a weapon against the other members. Like "Stop being mean to me or I'm calling my gaint partner". You still have no clue what to do if he says that so you often just stand there and try to look intimidating. He would also ask for piggy back rides. And you again have to remind him that height does not equal strenght. Being the little shit that he is he would hide things in very low places, so he can laugh at you for having to crouch down or even crawl around the room looking for them. But of course you would get your revenge, hiding his belongings in high places from him. Hearing him whine and seeing him jump around the place trying to find his things always makes you, Mingi and Yunho bow down in laughter. Tears streaming down your face from laughing to hard, hearing im screech curses at the three of you, you lean down to kiss him quite. Turning him into a blushing and rambling mess.

Jongho

Much like Yeosang. He is like "Oh I really like this person!" .... "Oh, they happen to be tall as well" would be such an afterthought for him. He fell in love with your personality not your height. Would still love to lift you up and even give you piggy back rides. Having you on his back, carrying you around makes him so happy but blushy was well. Seeing how you legs seem to go on for ever, brings heat to his cheeks and the pit of his stomach. Would get angry if members tease you about your height difference to much and would always reasure you that you are perfect for him just the way you are and that he would change nothing about you. he was everywhere you would be, a ghost haunting your every move and breath even in dreams, ironic since people referred to dreams as an escape from reality. fast forward to 300 takeout coffees later, you’d still see his profile and cocky smirk on unsuspecting waiters. no matter how many times you’d convince yourself, shut your eyes and count to ten, the illusion of him before you still wouldn’t go.

kaeya was used to a certain kind of intimacy, from a certain person and that was you. when he swapped between people, he felt off and uncomfortable being without you. your kisses, your touch, your love was something no one could ever match and replace. it was pure, unfiltered longing that he felt, that he wanted you so much to the point he dreamt of you, got together with people that were similar but not you.

at this point during your eras tour, the two of you are already together. you think you’re all sneaky but literally everyone knows… naomi looks at you like you gave them the moon so it’s quite obvious, but everyone lets you two have your fun!

the first people you told were obviously katie and jo. they both had fake surprised looks on their faces but said the two of you deserved to be happy. then ensue the countless jokes and comments from jo.

the boys were thrilled too! since phoebe had also opened for you, she had taken a guess that you two had a thing for each other and then her suspicions were confirmed. julien fist pumped naomi and lucy gave you a big hug!! you guys are adorable fr.

next came telling the world about the relationship. you two held off for a few months, wanting privacy, but it seemed twitter was already aware of it. everyone had their theories and some were so outrageous that you just wanted to tell everyone yourself.

you told naomi your feelings on the matter and they immediately agreed, no questions asked. they were ready to show you off and not have to hide. you suggested doing it during your next show, and like anon said, naomi is just like “whatever my princess wants, she gets!!! anything for her!!”

you quickly put your plan into motion. you decided your surprise song for the next show would be “you are in love” from 1989. it perfectly described how you felt about naomi. you came up with some ideas for the speech you would give before hand and it went something like this…

“the next song that i’m going to play is one that i haven’t performed in so long. i wrote it about someone who i thought was going to be my forever, but it just didn’t end up that way and it left me with some sad memories. i have never felt the need to play this song since then, but now everything has changed. even if i originally wrote this about someone else, my partner renewed it into something so pure and now has a reason to exist again. i love you.”

the camera doesn’t pan to naomi just yet, since you wanted to build suspense. for dramatic effect, of course. but jo and katie make sure to get their reaction on video. it’s just naomi basically happy crying and laughing with tears under their eyes. even when you guys are a whole stadium apart, the invisible string between you is there.

when it was finally time for the last era of songs, from midnights, you were planning to do a lyric swap in “karma.” the actual lyric was “karma is my girlfriend,” but obviously naomi was not a girl and the song originally wasn’t written about them, you planned to change it to something that made you happier. when the time came to sing “karma,” you looked right into the vip section where naomi was and sang “karma is my baby on the screen, coming straight home to me!” cut to the camera panning to naomi and they’re just giddy, laughing and crying all at the same time. when you told them you were going to make it official, this is definitely not how they imagined it, but they weren’t complaining.

you just wanted to show the world your love for them and honestly didn’t give a shit what anyone thought. the two of you just existed in your own little bubble, feeling like you were just singing to them.

after the show was over and naomi practically sprinted backstage, their beaming smile lit up the room as they saw you. they pulled you in for a fierce hug and pressed gentle kisses to your forehead.

The Couple Next Door (my take on it)

I've posted a lot of articles and a number of reviews and seen most of the comments on it. I also need to mention the way fans (mainly of SH) are posting about it on social media. Things that annoy me a little, is the drooling over his body, the focus on the intimate scenes, or how articles make it sound like it is all about hot, swingers, exciting sex scenes, where mostly Eleanor T and Sam are named as the leading actors that are responsible for the named scenes. I disagree with that description, it doesn't do justice to the show or cover it at all.

🚨 Note: It wasn't possible to write this review without spoilers. So you'll find spoilers below.

Though the 'swinger' part, is one of the important parts of the story, leading to the finale, there are a number of side stories as well that are as much important for the storylines. In fact the only real intimate scene is in episode 3, after the 2 couples learned about each other spending some time together, an evening at Becka (Jessica de Gouw) and Danny's (Sam Heughan) house and a day at the beach. All to build up the sexual tension, that most of the part is evident by Evie (Eleanor T) who gets curious and fantasizes about the lifestyle of Becka and Danny and talks about couple swapping with Pete, while Pete (Alfred Enoch) isn't into it at all. Evie lies to Becka saying she and Pete talked about it and are both into it, and despite Danny's initial rejection to the idea when Becka suggests it (because they have the rule not to do it with friends) they end up at a luxurious venue with a spa. In the evening they swap partners, Becka starting to kiss Pete and Danny is taking Evie into a bedroom where they get intimate while Pete tells Becka he doesn't want it.

In fact there is much more leading to the finale in the woods, which we already see at the beginning but the way all the characters get there is told in the story after this prologue.

Becka doesn't really has something to hide, she's quite open about her non monogamous and free life style. The way she behaves with Danny, constantly embracing and kissing shows what person she is.

Danny only takes on this lifestyle because he adores Becka, who grew up with it. He also hides a son he has with someone else and which leads to financial problems. The reason he gets into a shady side business with his colleague cop Gary. One that gets him entangled in a life threatening situation

Evie is brought up in a very opposite and strict religious way, she resents her dad judging about the way she got pregnant and consequently accuses him of praying for her to lose her baby.

Pete might be struggling a bit with his (manly) ego. He works as a journalist for a local newspaper and tries to get a scoop together with his colleague incriminating a well known authority, but they lack the actual evidence for it.

One of the side stories is the creepy neighbour Alan (Hugh Dennis) who is spying on Becka and is disgruntled because she tells him he can't be in her yoga class. He steals home videos of Becka and Danny and puts them on a website. Something that puts Becka and Danny in an troublesome situation and leads to Becka losing her clients and finding out about Danny's hidden son.

Those side stories is what we see glimpses of in the first 3 episodes and what evolves and gets played out in the last 3 episodes. I wasn't that much impressed by the first 3 episodes, but got more interested in the last 3 episodes where all the story lines come together and leading to the finale. Making me binge the rest all at once.

I did see oddities or parts where I thought, perhaps a bit overdone. Like the weed smoking, drinking parts to point out a 'free lifestyle', and the way Becka can't keep her hands of Danny.

Calling the intimate part with Evie and Danny hot and steamy is overrated. I could have done without the line 'Take a good look' by Danny to Evie while he strips off his clothes, as if she's a little religious woman who has only ever done it with the lights off under the blankets. (which is totally not the case, as we've seen earlier on how Evie and Pete have sex on the kitchen counter after the BBQ with Becka and Danny. Evie obviously aroused by their neighbours lifestyle, and Pete pleasantly surprised by it though not much skin is shown) Consequently Danny walks of from the camera to get the bottle of wine, just to show his naked butt, a scene that wasn't needed imo. Especially since the bottle of wine didn't had any other purpose (I could have thought of some creative ways using it to make the scene more 'steamy'). But after all, it was just to make sure we know he and Evie got into the actual deed, which was quite unimaginatively, straight up and down in one position, only with a small interruption to make sure we know the condom split. Not the wild intimate scene you'd imagine after all the build up to the couple swap. And dare I say the rather rude thrusting and pushing looked more hurtful than enjoyable. But it explains how Evie got pregnant (again) and it's not Pete's child. A significant part of the story that leads to the finale in the woods.

There's also a scene where Evie shows up at Danny's work, in the evening while he seems to be alone. She seduces him again to get intimate with her, he doesn't want it and already made clear to her that she needs to stop thinking they have something with each other. The flesh is weak though, and they end up having sex on the desk without taking their clothes off... I don't know how needed this scene was actually and it wasn't that credible to be honest. (and not hot nor steamy at all). Perhaps it was to contribute to the obsession of Evie about her and Danny and she tells him she's pregnant with his child, which Danny doesn't like at all. However Danny doesn't tell Becka about this event and about Evie being pregnant with his child. It's not completely clear why he doesn't do that, partly because he's caught up in the troubles his side job caused and perhaps partly because he's afraid Becka would resent him for it.

Another oddity I found is while Alan breaks into the house of Becka and Danny stealing their home videos. He takes pictures with his phone from the camera, but when he uploads them to a website we actually see quite clear videos. I was wondering why he didn't just take the memory card from the camera, to put the footage on his own computer and sneaks back into their house to put the memory card back into the camera. That would be more credible, but okay. After all he does go back into the house when Becka and Danny are away for their spa weekend with Evie and Pete. His wife Jean (Kate Robbins), who he neglected all the time and didn't help to get her stairlift she wants so badly so she can go upstairs again to be with him, meanwhile got the stairlift installed and found out about her husband secretly spying. Curiously she just happens to look through the telescope Alan has installed in the room upstairs, and sees how her husband gets a stroke in the house of Becka and Danny.

And then there's this part where Danny and Becka rush to the woods after Evie calls Danny saying she's in danger. While they jump into the car and drive off they don't notice how they're followed by a hitman, who wants to kill Danny as he betrayed his criminal boss. On their way Becka and Danny get into a huge argument, as Becka doesn't trust him anymore after she found out about his hidden son. And since it turns out Evie is pregnant from him, which Becka only learns now, it all made it even worse. They stop halfway, as Becka wants to get out of the car. And they are arguing in an open field. It is actually a good scene, both are playing their part very well, and gotta say, here Sam's emotion is quite credible in this scene. The oddity here however is that the hitman who followed them and who could have an easy shot at Danny in that open field, patiently waited until they're done arguing and resume their way to the cottage in the woods. It's only there he tries to take a shot at Danny, but misses.

About the acting of all characters I have to say for me, the characters played by Jessica de Gouw and Alfred Enoch were the more credible ones. That said, each character has interaction and scenes with each other. And they're all quite different. Danny and Becka, Danny and Evie, Danny and Pete are all quite different. That goes for all the characters actually.

About Sam, I did see a number of what we call here the five acting things, especially in the first 3 episodes, but I also saw better ones in the other parts. As said the scenes with Becka arguing, confessing his secrets and love for her looked quite credible. But yes, there's also the head nodding, and a lot of 'hmmm's' to throw me out of scenes. To say he can only act taking his shirt off is unfair. That's not what I saw, and I feel that's more because of the way the show has been sold and gives me the feeling the ones saying so didn't actually watch the show. Adding to that 'fans' who just drool over his body on sm which I find embarrassing and not doing him a favor if they want him to be seen as a serious actor. His character is supposed to be the alpha male, but actually has it weaknesses as well as it turns out. I think the character more or less lives up to that role. While the alpha male parts are not all that convincing the weaknesses are more convincing.

About Eleanor, gotta say I wasn't that much convinced by the way she plays her character. Maybe she had the best scenes with Jessica, talking and being curious about Becka's lifestyle and the way they both were raised. We see her at her parents dinner table making a scene that leaves everyone shattered. She can put a sort of smile on her face which makes you feel like she's actually not the honest woman she puts out there but has her hidden secrets. Even the end and the last look at her shows that smile but behind her eyes you see the dishonesty perhaps...

About Jessica, I quite liked the way she acted her parts, with all of the characters. The more 'free' woman with an open mind to everyone, fair and open in her emotions. Her character loves her husband more than he realizes, but it's all based on trusting each other, and that trust gets betrayed in a way when she finds out about his hidden child. The scenes arguing with Danny about that, the things he didn't tell her and confessing how much she loves him are good on both parts. The constant hugging and kissing parts are a bit overdone though.

About Alfred, I think his character was the most credible one and very well played by him. He's the husband of Evie, they've been married 17 years and the butterflies are long gone. When Evie gets more interested about the lifestyle of their neighbours, he goes along and gets himself into smoking weed and drinking more than he likes or ever wanted. Which of course loosens him up somewhat but he doesn't feel comfortable about it. He struggles a bit with his ego, his inability to beget the so wanted baby, as well as the way Evie seems more and more obsessed by the alpha male (looking) neighbour. His ego gets a boost though when he manages to blackmail Danny in providing him the evidence he and his colleague journalist lack to expose the criminal actions by a well known figure in the society. Which actually leads to Danny getting in a life threatening situation.

About the story and the way it is shown. The story is based on the book 'Nieuwe Buren' (I saw it was translated in some articles as 'The swingers' but that's not the correct translation, 'New Neighbours' is the actual translation). Though the story lines for the bigger part are the same, there are a number of alterations. The most significant alteration is perhaps the part about how Evie gets pregnant. In the book this is actually secretly plotted by Evie and Becka, while in the show Becka doesn't know about it.

The end of the story is altered as well, as in the book none of the characters survives. The actual ending of the book is much more horrible.

The shown doesn't go into depth for most of the story lines, it sort of touches the surfaces and doesn't get very complicated. In fact it's quite predictable at points, though I think there could easily be 2 more episodes when storylines were played out a bit more.

To me there were some loose ends, like the hidden son, who does get to know his half brother because of Becka making it possible, where Danny fails because of his fear to confess this secret to her (and perhaps fear of losing Becka). It feels a little flimsy to leave it at what was shown.

Another loose end is what actually happened to Danny and his colleague as corrupt cops helping a criminal. Gary gets beaten up at some point, when he and Danny rob diamonds from a bank. Danny gets away, Gary finally gets questioned at the bureau. But before anyone can find Danny he's away with Becka to the woods to help Evie. We never get to know the end of that storyline.

I've seen a number of criticisms going on about the accents used. I'm not getting into that, as a non native English, I can hear there's an accent used but in no way I feel I can say anything educated about that. I also saw comments about the location, where Leeds has been named it doesn't seem credible to people. Details that maybe could have been avoided by not naming an actual location, and just call it Suburbia. It doesn't make the story or the show less or more credible imho.

All in all a nice and enjoyable watch, don't pay too much attention to details and don't expect a complicated story. The dots are connected in an obvious and easy way to follow. I'd give it a 3 out of 5.

Hello! About the fake dating!au, I was wondering how the episode Niagara brawls would play out if Alenoaheather was happening. Would Alejandro and heather still be paired up or would one of them be paired up with Noah?

Well, to be entirely honest, I haven't really thought too much on it yet. Mostly because it's still kind of up-in-the-air as to when Noah's elimination would take place in this AU. I think we've sort of settled on post-merge, so he would be present in the Niagara Falls challenges, but the timeline's still really vague so I personally haven't really invested any time in figuring out the semantics of how each episode would play out.

But since you asked, I might as well toss my hat into the ring! I'll just type out my thoughts as they come, so please excuse this response if it's a little all-over-the-place or formatted weirdly.

Off the bat, it's been fairly well established that the canon final four remains unchanged, so at the very least both Sierra and Cody are still present in this challenge; this is important, since in canon the only reason Heather ends up partnered with Alejandro is because Sierra is the one who rejects him as a husband first. I don't really see a reason to change the canonical play of events here, unless a brainstorming session later on down the line necessitates Noah being paired with either Heather or Alejandro for whatever reason. Mostly just because keeping as many "pre-written" plot points as possible lessens the workload on our shoulders (us, of course, being me and @perpetualexistence, and occasionally @ur-local-brown-multifandomist).

But that does leave the question of who Noah would be paired with.

And again, this would be super dependant on who's left in the competition at this point; since Noah's made it to the merge, we know someone has to have taken his place in the London elimination- just that small change could have potential consequences on all of the subsequent eliminations afterwards, so the merge cast might look almost completely different to World Tour's "official" line-up.

And this is also super dependant on whether or not it's Blaineley who wins the Aftermayhem challenge- I'm not sure if any of the others intend to swap her out for a more interesting/plot relevant contestant (which, as much as I do love Blaineley, she's just find of there with no real relevance to the story) like perhaps Lindsay, Leshawna or maybe even Beth- I assume it'd have to be a girl, since the show itself works to even out it's gender ratios, but it could hypothetically be anyone.

So Noah's partner could be... literally anyone, save for the Final Four (Alejandro, Heather, Sierra and Cody).

...Unless?

Now, don't judge me here, but I do kind of like the idea of Noah ending up with Heather as his partner. Maybe it's the vast potential of how their (entirely self-constructed, and self-indulgent) character dynamic could play out in this scenario, or maybe I just want the opportunity to write Noah trying and failing to pick up Heather, eventually leading to her being the one to carry him across the Falls tightrope like a pathetic, soggy kitten. Or maybe I'm just getting my Noaheather on- who knows?

All I'm saying is, they'd be giving a lot of Connecticut Clark and Malfina vibes and I'm so here for it.

And maybe I just want to see something new; there's so many explorations of how an Alenoah Niagara Brawls challenge would play out (and they're all wonderful, don't get me wrong!) so it's time to give some other pairings the spotlight!

Plus, this particular scenario would not only allow the contestants to see Heather and Noah acting like the "fake" couple they're supposed to be, but Alejandro could also play it as either a double-breach of his trust (since he's also supposed to be "fake" dating Noah, at least, and he has his whole romantic rivalry with Heather) or take advantage of his position and try to charm whoever he's partnered up with and either secure a valuable ally for later on down the road, or beguile his next elimination target into a false sense of security- since a huge part of Alejandro's character is his conniving flirtatiousness, and I don't want to completely negate that.

Now that I'm thinking about it, Alejandro's flirty nature could be a conflict point between himself and his partners. That's a thought for another time, though.

But, again, it's still very up-in-the-air and I don't really think I can give a definitive answer until a proper elimination order has been established- or, at the very least, the elimination order pre-merge. So, uh, sorry for the lack of a definitive answer!
