Oh, nothing. Just this wholesome AF moment
- kinda seems like he’s talking to her in character after she dies
-immediately snaps out of it as he brings her up
-the lil snuggle in his favourite spot™️
-her delicate little cuddle of him as she recovers (better from the other angle)
-secret whispers (probs ‘we effed up that ending 😄’)
-I love how he uses her to hold onto as he gets back to standing up proper
- HAPPY T!
- ‘bring it in kiddo’ followed by bouncy cheek kiss 💋
- Bonus cuddle 🥰

In which I SkyTrain-post about: the Dunsmuir Tunnel.
Or, actually, why the SkyTrain network as a whole feels like a goofy little toy train, while also being a really cool example of quirky '80s technology being pushed right to its absolute limits. But first, some context is useful — specifically, the urban freeway plan for Vancouver, which, unlike many cities in North America, was largely aborted.
Tumblr media
↑↑↑ This is what they wanted to do to part of the City of Vancouver…
Tumblr media
…and this is the overarching plan that was mostly defeated by an organised left in Vancouver. (The few areas that weren't saved, well, those deserve their own posts.) So, with a massive freeway plan being shot down for the city centre, what was the plan going to be for transit? Well, after some amount of messing around with express buses throughout the '70s on the part of the regional transit network, which was operated by BC Hydro before BC Transit took it over… …Vancouver got chosen to host Expo 86. Which was themed around transportation, being named "Transportation and Communication: World in Motion — World in Touch".
Tumblr media
Which meant: well shit, maybe now's a good time to make up for having dodged the whole highway bullet. However, using a normal heavy rail network, on entirely new infrastructure, with human drivers, was untenable, because: I guess I need to introduce the Socreds.
Tumblr media
I'm not going to get into the ideology of social credit, which the Socreds never actually ended up being able to give effect to, or the somewhat unusual conservatism of WAC Bennett's long administration, but effectively, by the early '80s, the Socreds had pivoted to plain old neoliberalism, which meant: cutting costs all over and also keeping unions out of whatever they could. (As an aside, if you've ever got the time, read about the Solidarity protests of 1983 in BC, because the sheer intensity of the Bill Bennett administration's fuckery on that front is a pretty clear demonstration of shock doctrine.) And yes, if you're keeping track, that's William Bennett for 20 years → 3 years of not William &c. → Bill Bennett for 11 years → Wilhelmus Vander Zalm for 5 years. Lots of William happening. And all of those assorted Williams were Socred Premiers. But how do you cut costs and also keep unions away from a brand new metro system? Well, Urban Transit Development Corporation, a Crown Corporation (basically a state-owned enterprise, but Canadian) in Ontario had an idea:
Tumblr media
A tiny train. But it runs frequently. It's also automated, and uses a linear induction motor for propulsion. That's kinda critical to the fact that the SkyTrain works whatsoever, really, given other constraints I'm about to get into. And what else can one do to save costs on a rail system?
Tumblr media
Reuse old alignments, like the Central Park Line of the British Columbia Electric Railway.
Tumblr media
But what saves even more money?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Reusing old infrastructure. Basically, until just a few years before the SkyTrain started operation, Canadian Pacific ran long-distance trains, all the way out to Toronto (and sometimes further), through the Dunsmuir Tunnel from Waterfront Station, which is now the "main" hub for TransLink, linking the SeaBus, Expo Line, West Coast Express. Canada Line, and many bus routes. But that got shut down, to make way for literally slicing the Tunnel in half height-wise — and thus letting two tracks use the same tunnel, which was built tall enough for old steam trains. Which means: you've got trains constrained to a fairly tiny loading gauge, which, sure, maybe you'd want to build longer platforms to compensate for that, but:
Tumblr media
No. Hence automation. For example, try to find a precise timetable for the Expo Line anywhere on the Internet, without screwing around with APIs or whatever. You can't, last I checked. The design philosophy resulting from the "let's spend as little as goddamn possible while still having a grade separated rapid transit system" approach means that, well, we've got trains so tiny in loading gauge terms that you can fit two in a barely modified single-track rail tunnel, which are barely even 80m long, which still could carry 25,700 people per hour per direction, solely thanks to completely absurd frequencies. Like, TransLink deserves to be yelled at over the lack of redundancy in such a critical transportation backbone, and the provincial governments that they rely on for funding deserve it even more, but it's. Well. Kinda interesting how the most ridiculous possible political pressures resulted in, like, a fairly functional transit system, via the weirdest specifications possible. However, this is also why, not even 40 years after the Expo Line opened for regular service, it's already close to its limits. They were far too cautious and non-ambitious in their design for the system, chasing ideologies of Fiscal Responsibility™ instead of future-proofing, and now we've got transit infrastructure that's going to require redundancy to the tune of an entire extra metro line in the northwest/southeast direction eventually, even if other connections should be able to pick up the slack in the medium term.

Let's start the lesson, please get your phones!
Yes, using smartphones can be part of a lesson. In fact, today's post is about a wonderful smartphone app that has the potential to be a huge help during teaching: Socrative.
Well, it's more like 2 apps to be exact: Socrative Teacher is where the teacher can manage exercises and Socrative Student is where the students can access these exercises.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As teachers can choose from various forms of exercises, it can be fitting to any class' lesson where students are comfortable using a tablet or their smart phones if they have one.
There are exercises great to start with, like a quick truth or false or a multiply choice quiz. Some can also be used as an energiser or refresher, for example the playful space racing game. While an exit ticket is an obvious choice for ending the lesson -- and also very informative to all parties!
Tumblr media
This app is great (even the unpaid version!!), and to show that, let me introduce you to how I'd use it in the beginning of a literature class about Pride and Prejudice for a class of 14-16-year-olds:
The teacher writes in the question in Socrative Teacher
Tumblr media
2) Students can send in their original answers even more than one if the teacher sets the settings like that:) --- this happens in Socrative Student of course
Tumblr media
3) Theacher gets the answers in Socrative Teacher
Tumblr media
4) Now the teacher can opt to start a vote. I would do it after talking a bit about the answers with the students (5 minutes), it would be interesting to see how opinions might have changes after hearing the others' arguments.
(This is how it looks to the teacher when nobody has voted yet:)

Squished • Alexia Putellas x Reader
Tumblr media
Alexia helps a young fan who is getting crushed in a crowd of fans.
You grew up with brothers, they were rough and put you in goal for their football games with their friends. To say you took a battering everytime was an understatement. You papa put you in a boys football team when you turned 4 to 'toughen' you up.
You would watch Barcelona mens games on TV, never being allowed to go to the Camp Nou with your brothers and your papa as you were too young. Instead, your mother put you infront of the Barcelona femeni.  You would skip down to the Johan ever week with your mama, wearing a hand me down jersey with your brothers name on the back.
You soon got to learn everything, by 5 and half you knew all the players and even joined in with the chants too, waving your small flag around.
"Aleexxia! Alexxxiiaa!" You'd sing, proudly showing off your Barcelona jersey on the way to the game, your cuddly toy in your hand.
"Are you excited for the game today, bebita?" Mami asked. You'd nod. "Who are you excited to watch?"
"Alexia!" You'd show off your little toothy grin and shake with excitement.
-
Mama put you on her shoulders so you could see better, you'd raise your arms and cheer and squeal throughout the 90 minutes.
Alexia socred and you went crazy, jumping up and down and giggling with you mama, the couple next to you smiling at your happiness.
"Alexia, Mama!!"
At the end of the game, the team won 7-0. You were so excited you wriggled your way through to the front trying to see past everyone. You waved at the players as they walked past.
"HOLA MAPI!!" You grinned, waving your hand franticallly.
You gasped a little as you felt an older girl behind you shoving you against the railing, looking down you see someone else stepping on your foot, squishing it inside your pink trainers.
"MAPI POR FAVOR!!!"
"ow!" You tried to move but you kept getting pushed and shoved.
You were a small five year old, and getting pushed around in a crowd of shouting people wasn't something you wanted to be in.
"MAMMA!" You called out, but mama was no where to be seen.
Tears filled your eyes and spilled down your cheeks.
"Ow! You are hurting!" You tried to call out to the people around you but no one seemed to listen as they waved their shirts down at the players.
“OW! POR FAVOR!” You teared up more, being barged around between older children and adults, being squished against the barricade.
Alexia came over towards your stand, not having seen you squished in and teary eyed. She signed a few shirts and then caught sight of you.
"Alexia!" You cried, in both happiness and fear. You tears became more violent as the crowd pushed closer and closer to the barrier to see sight of the footballer.
"Hola bebita, your ok!" She shouted at the crowd around you to stop pushing and this caught attention of her teammates. Patri, Aitana, Mapi and Claudia rushed over jsut as she pulled you over the fenced area.
You tears didn't stop, they couldn't. You were scared and frightened.
The players created a circle around you, Alexia holding you against her chest as you legs wrapped around her.
She rubbed your back softly and gently swayed you side to side.
"What's your name?" Patri smiles softly, rubbing your cheek to clear the drying tears.
"I'm y/n." You sobbed, holding your soft toy in your hand still, a tight grip on the cuddly penguin.
"How old are you, y/n?"
You held up five fingers on your small hand,  dropping your head onto Alexia's shoulder.
"Your so tiny!" Alexia smiled. Are you here with mama and papa?"
"Mami" You told her.
"With you mami." she nods. "Does she know where you went?" She asks, looking around back to the stands she pulled you from.
You shook your head, you'd slipped out of her reach and was just too excited to wave to the team that you forgot to keep near her.
"Who is this?" Claudia points at your penguin, Alexia shifting you onto her hip as you show your cuddly toy.
"Pepa" You tell her, your voice soft and quiet.
The girls keep you calm and security goes to find you mama. Alexia keeping hold of you the whole time.
"You must have been scared in there, huh?" She smiles softly, tilting her head.
You nod. "I just small!" You tell her.
She chuckles softly. “You are! But it’s okay, your safe now.”
“Did you like the game? Alexia scored an amazing goal didn’t she!” Mapi smiles.
“Sí! I did lots of clapping” You grin at the defender. “Mami put me high so I could see.” You tell them.
A short while later, security come down to the pitch with your mami.
“Y/N!” She rushes over, taking you out of the Barcelona captain’s arms. “I told you to stay by my side!” She sighs.
“Lo siento Mami. But this is Alexia!” You giggle, looking at the midfielder who’s smiling at you.
“Well thank you for helping her, Alexia.” She smiles.
“It’s not worries, I loved spending time with you y/n! I’ll see you at the next game?” She asks.
You nod. “Sí!! And Pepa!” You hold up the penguin and wave it at her.
“Say bye now, we need to go.” Mama hurry’s you up.
“Bye Alexia!”
“Bye Y/N! Bye Pepa!”

PastTeacher! Alex Turner x PastStudent! Reader
Tumblr media
(If this was a series would y’all read it? 🧍🏿)
𝙎𝙪𝙢𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙮: You decide to return to your high school, just to look around when you find a familiar friend…still there.
Tumblr media
When you finally approached the door, you looked to your left to see that the history teacher was gone, replaced with a woman wearing an oversized graphic t-shirt and jeans who ushered out the rest of the students. Finally, you peeked through the glass to see him still here. Fluffy brown hair, now freshly trimmed instead of a voluminous mess or hidden underneath an unexpected beanie or handfuls of pomade.
You couldn't help but smile widely, gazing at your favorite teacher. Adorned in a powder blue button-down and a pair of jeans, he erased the marker board in the dim, empty class. While you watched him idly, you hadn't noticed him noticing you as well, so entranced by him letting all your memories hit you. And then you saw him walking up to the door, your nerves grew.
You backed away, still gazing at him, now thinking about the last time you spoke.
"Y/N," he said, everything in you froze. He looked at you with utter surprise, urging you inside excitedly.
"It's good to see you again, Al," you smirked, sitting at one of the desks near the window.
"How have you been? You're grown." He said, a grin as big as yours plastered on his face.
"Great, I'm, um in college for psychology and Creative Writing." You spoke. You began to ooze with a sorta of pride, your shoulders back, and the grin you hated was slathered all over your face.
"Oh, Y/N, I knew you'd get into something you'd like." He said. All those smiles he gave were like drugs to you, happy that Mr. Turner was still here, but the thought still gnawed at your skull.
The classroom's theme was Farm, and from what you could tell, poems and art from students lined the paper grass-lined bulletin board. Little stalks of faux cattails hang from the corners, and you try not to giggle. He sits at the little hexagon desk beside you as you stare at the little string lights that wrap around the window seals.
“How’s Marligan treatin’ you?” you said, a grin as wide as one stretching their arms outgrew. Alexander groaned, his eyes rolling as he hurried to the desk.
“I don't get them, Y/N,” he started, bringing a hand up to his temples to soothe his oncoming headache. You nod, knowing that sometimes things never change.
“They’re kids.” you deadpanned, looking at him with a neutral face.
“I told you before. You just gotta let them fail. I know you care. That's why you're amazing.” you said. Alex exhaled loudly.
“But how would that be helping them when they applied to be here!” he exclaimed; this must’ve been driving him mad, the paradox of it all. He looked at you, eyebrows raised and face in a scowl as he called everyone you knew out. You weren't bothered by the sting you felt; why be hurt by the truth?
“Yeah, that's true…then, how come you didn't hate me?” you questioned, crossing your legs and gazing at him-longingly.
“What?” he looked at you, almost bewildered, fuck, you tensed up. Eyes did not dare to meet his while you now assumed he’d turn you to salt. However, your mouth opened again.
“Turner, you can't be fucking around. I literally met you when you were proctoring my test, and you joked how bad I was at math,” you pointed out, yet he deflected, eyes shifted as you lift your head.
“So, you had a lot of struggles…and math isn’t for everyone.” He said, which was true. You still counted on your fingers.
“Alex, you know that we both’re aware that my struggles were of my doing. And even then, I was perfectly fine in your classes. I even felt bad when others disrupted you.” you stopped to gaze into his eyes. All those times you've seen his disappointed face when he looked upon your peers, too young to know what to do next after his students just conducted a whole performance in the middle of a Socratic seminar.
“What are you gettin’ at Y/N?” he asked, his lips pursed as the two of you sat for a second. Staring at each other. You wondered if he couldn't believe himself either, you being here.
“Al…I was a failure, I was lazy, I didn't have anything goin’ for me. So how was it that we were always talking?” you asked; your eyes burned again, and the silence crept in again. Alex glanced at you, stunned. You'd call him out on his bullshit, yea, but at least you weren't vague about it. Your eyes narrowed before you spoke once more,
“What did you mean the last time we spoke?” you asked, not thinking he'd remember that long ago, but somehow he did, vividly, his face soured into a grimace.
“I, I just needed to know if it was me that drew us apart,” he said, his voice cracked. Your eyes widened in shock.
“Y/N we talked almost everyday, multiple times for almost 2 years and then during the middle of it all…you stopped, and you just didn't stop, you damn near hated me! You avoided me unless it was class,” he said. Tears began to develop in his eyes as you stayed quiet. This time that sting, stung and stung you hard. The familiar feeling of hurt filled your chest, as you sniffled loudly.
“I stopped because I felt like when I met Sofie and them, I didn't need to cling to a teacher who probably had something better to do than talk to me.” you said now chewing at your lip as you explained it to him.
“You’re not going to actually think I believe that,” he said, you pressed your lips together tightly, forming a thin line. Cheeks tingly as you fiddled with your fingers.
“It's true,” you meekly retorted, he raised a brow.
“I still don't believe you, you've sat in here before with friends before.” he pointed out.
“Al,” you groaned, looking at him with longing and sadness, the way you used to. Your hands rub against your jeans before speaking.
“I left because of Sofie and the girls, yea, I also left because of…other things.” you muttered the last part, to his intrigue.
“Other things….”
“Something…something my mom said that got to me bad. I guess I took it too seriously.”
The comment now echoed in your head as the string lights blinked on and off to an unspoken rhythm. It's yellow light gleamed against the side of his face, the two of you in the dark, tense quiet.
“Was it about dress code? I told you I really didn't feel comfortable enforcing it on you guys I'm sorry.” he said, his voice low and expression sorrowful.
“No, it was something, something else.”
“What’d she say?”
The speechlessness crept in furthermore, this time you were mustering up the courage, or idiocy to finish.
“She said,” you began. As you look into your friends’ eyes, it felt like year's ago. When you sat in his classroom picking his brain about some drama you saw online or asking him about his time off.
"She said, if it were another world or if we were closer in age, we'd go out or something like that," you brushed off the statement as if it hadn't been stuck in your head for so long. You look back up to see Alex's utterly red face, not knowing what to say next like he's just seen you take your head off and throw it at him. You press your lips together and grit your teeth.
"Y/N?" "Yea?" "…Do you agree with her still?"
Your breath caught in your throat as you gawked at him.
"Alex…" "Do you?" he implored, resting his elbow on the desk, eyebrow raised, and lips pursed. It's now your turn to be flustered. You were speechless, like when he constantly asked you 'why' when discussing, but now, nothing to leave your lips, not even an ever so hated vulgarity.
"I," you stammered, absolutely stunned by this revelation, an unexpected outcome. You sat there frozen, just staring at him.
"Y/N, do you still…like me like that?" he asked, his eyes shifting from you to the window. The way he said your name made your stomach flutter.
"Alex, please tell me I'm not oversteppin'…I'll leave if I am. I-" you stopped yourself when you heard a sniffle- Alex was crying, his eyes glassy and hands fidgeting.
"You won't believe how I've felt about you once I saw you just now," he croaked, his eyes now looking you over thoroughly for once as if he'd never seen you before.
"I, I thought you were a breath of fresh air. Students have conversed with me, and I like talking to you guys, yeah…but you, I adored talking to you… you spoke to me like we've known each other for years," he said. Your head spun.
"It felt like you didn't see me as 'Mr. Turner,'" You nodded; most of your time with him, you just didn't expect him to feel the same.
"Felt like you didn't just see some shit kid," you added without much thought. He thought about it and shrugged.
"I saw a smart, mature, witty, young woman who hated everyone in the room," he half-joked.
"Everyone but you," you said to which he laughed.
"Everyone but me, yeah." he smirked, now taking your hand in his. He was cold compared to the stiffling heat of the room. Content, the thing that gnawed at you like termites to a wood cabin now vanished.
"I missed you so Alex," your voice cracked, gripping his hand as tears that've been on edge finally rolled down your cheeks.
"I don't think I've ever missed anyone as much as I did you," you continued, the steaming tears dribbled off your chin and quickly, you reached up and patted them away with a sleeve. The two of you both glanced at each other with tear filled eyes.
"Alex, I love you, I've loved you as a friend since we first met and I loved as something more when you were there for me at my lowest."
Another pregnant pause, you stared at each other's hands and the way they intertwined. His hands were much bigger than yours, his palms were soft, but the parts where his fingers met were calloused.
"Y/N..." he whispered, squeezing your hand firmly. You looked him up and down, your eyes still burned, and your heart overflowed.
"Alex, you left a mark in my mind," you whispered.
What's up with us and silence, you thought. Looking around for once, you noticed how close you were to him, your knees grazing his, elbows knocking.
"You've done just the same thing." he said, you turned your body to him and there you were, face to face. He looked so different now, softer. Your thighs touching.
"Alex, I’m so sorry if I hurt your feelings when I ghosted you…especially for someone like Sofie.”
