Wish I had the words to describe how emotional it made me to see these two sets next to one another holyshit

Left one is from September 2021 It was a shitty time IRL and an hard time fandom-wise too, the escapism that was the community was slowly fading and becoming an hell on its own. Made a lot of mistakes cause I didn't know any better back then, dramas were escalating and I believe end of 2021 - early 2022 is when the fandom shattered in multiple pieces

Tho I was still motivated and modding, was really happy with his custom appearance, baby wearing his iconic Bitch crop top and his customized racing bolero

Right is from February this year (2024) and woah, he looks... more mature? Older somehow, considering I never made drastic change to his character- Definitely at peace

Both sets were outfit showcases, and despite both being shot in the badlands, during the golden hours, they have suuuch different moods overall

Friendo described it perfectly; Younger Val looks pensive, nervous about the night to come, staring at the setting sun in anticipation. While older Val looks at peace, calmly welcoming the dark that slowly crawl in between the desert's cracks

And we had a talk about how much of a mirror an OC can be? Reflecting our own thoughts, our own mood, without even realizing it until years later in moment like this, when comparing pictures

These past years has been rough, mentally and physically (talking about IRL here) and looking back, it definitely shows through Valentin

And looking at him now, even if I have some bad days here and there, even if I'm still in a transitional time, everything changing around me, I know that It's ok, that I'll be fine- That we will be fine

I would just like to say how hard it hits me in the chest to see Charlie masking every time she's onscreen the day before the fight (including what we see on Vox's spy screens of course), except when no one is with her but Vaggie. Even during her emotional speech she tries so damn hard to keep that confidence up and smile on. But we do see her stop masking twice, when the only person watching her is Vaggie.

First:

No one's really paying attention to her, and she's not smiling; she's worried. When Vaggie approaches her, she doesn't put on a happy face. She talks about her mom with the same smile as in the first episode (during a very emotionally vulnerable moment with Vaggie, might I add). It's not happy or confident. It's nostalgic, wistful, and sad, because her mom's absence is something very personal and painful for her. When Vaggie asks if they're ready, Charlie doesn't instantly start to smile or answer with confidence even though she usually would (even within that short beat of time), because her mask is off. She's not confident or optimistic. She's scared. She's not ready.

Then Pentious comes out and she's all smiles again! The mask comes back on when someone other than Vaggie is there.

Second:

Of course, one of our favorite scenes. Charlie's alone when she breaks down, but when Vaggie shows up, she keeps the mask off. She admits how scared she is. When she does smile, it's not the big smile she's been throwing on throughout the day, and it's not strained either. It's soft, gentle, and real. She's not masking. Vaggie is genuinely making her feel better when she's finally letting herself fall apart, just by being there and reminding her that no matter what happens, she's already accomplished so much, and she's so loved.

Charlie is under a lot of stress and pressure. She's scared. She's not as optimistic as she's making herself out to be. She's giving everything she's got out there being a strong, confident, inspirational leader and friend in front of everyone, and it's only with Vaggie that she lets it go. She doesn't have to try to be strong. She doesn't pretend. She lets down her guard, because for her, Vaggie is that one infinitely special person who gets to see every part of her; the one person she can always be her honest self with.

There were plenty of times in other episodes when Charlie didn't mask her negative emotions around people, but that was when she didn't have anyone looking to her as a leader. She's running on adrenaline and the weight of people's expectations as Extermination Day gets closer, and she can't let the mask she's put on slip in public. She has to seem like she's totally ready for what's coming. But Vaggie is different.

The amount of trust and love Charlie has for her is staggering. She's under an insane amount of stress and pressure, and having Vaggie by her side is probably the only thing keeping her from completely falling to pieces. Seeing a relationship so full of deep trust and love is absolutely beautiful. <3

this also happens to megumi, except his face is not nearly as love sick. he actually looks kind of angry, a small pout and furrowed brows that might signal that he’s upset but when you ask him he just scoffs and shakes his head, when he has to admit it: “i have a crush on you,” he says, very matter of fact, ignoring his burning ears, “it’s your fault. i thought the point of dating was that this feeling was going to go away.”

My dude, I cannot tell you the delight your comics give me. I just found them recently, so I'm pretty far into the story, and realized I didn't see any of Greygold meeting/interacting with Dame Aylin. Did I just miss it or did that never happen? And if it didn't happen maybe could you make it happen?

I feel like their personalities are parallel lines. Aylin is so....intense, but I feel like she and Greygold would have a lot of overlap. I also just love imagining Aylin going off on a Shakespearean monologue about love, duty, fighting impossible odds ect, and Greygold sincerely and wholeheartedly being like "It do be like that sometime."

There were a few Dame cameos, but you're right, no official interactions between the two. That's because even though Greygold is vibing with utmost admiration for Dame and Isobel, brain cells ain't got jack deemed drawing worthy, alas!

But! One small silly thought did pop up for this so- (just….had to will myself to look for references huaaahhh)

You know what feels like shit? When a new person comes into the friend group and they're just better at being a friend than you are. They meet all the needs that the friends want where you can't. And you can slowly feel yourself being pushed out of the group.

But what can you even do about it. You can't keep up with that kind of energy. You're not emotionally receptive like them. You're not as experienced in life as them. You can't participate in more conversations beyond your interests with them. You can't go out many places like them. You're not spontaneous like them. You need more accommodations than them.

And the shitty part always is, that overtime, even if you don't immediately realise it, you can feel your friends losing interest in you. You can feel them starting to get annoyed with you. You can feel them slowly moving away to avoid you.

You just know that you're not the type of friend most people want.

In Ep55 A Place for Everything, when Minkowski thinks Kepler is doubting the likelihood of Eiffel still being alive after he's floated towards the star in his spacesuit, Minkowski says "Eiffel had plenty of air left, and let's not forget he survived for -" It seems pretty likely that she was about to say that Eiffel survived nearly 200 days stranded in deep space on Lovelace's shuttle. It's interesting to me that Minkowski uses that incident as evidence that Eiffel will survive this time too, because that's not really how situations like that work.

We don't know exactly how much Minkowski knows about Eiffel's time on Lovelace's shuttle, but the reality is that he survived for those 193 days due to an extremely specific combination of impressive ingenuity, incredible perseverance, access to the right resources, a fair dose of stupidity, and an extraordinary amount of sheer luck. Without just one of those ingredients, he would never have made back to the Hephaestus alive. The ingenuity and perseverance could serve him well in this situation too, but the other factors don't exactly apply in the same way.

In my view, it isn't really that Eiffel's survival on that shuttle serves as evidence of any specific attributes that will guarantee his survival this time. I think it's more that the events with Lovelace's shuttle - Minkowski thinking Eiffel was gone forever but then being miraculously reunited with him - have given Minkowski a non-specific sense of Eiffel as a person who survives, a person who ends up in nearly inescapable peril and yet somehow always escapes, a person who makes it back alive against all the odds. It's not a piece of logical practical evidence. It's just an emotional instinct that allows her to believe that she's not going to lose him, allowing her to focus on what she can do to try and find him.

Minkowski's 'Goddamn it Eiffel' when he floats towards the star in Ep53 is so much less dramatic than the way she yells his name as the shuttle drifts away in Ep28. And that's partly about what the story calls for in those moments. And it's partly about the specific situations and the agency Eiffel has had in them. But it's also that in Ep53 she already believes that he will be okay, that he'll come back. He's done it before. He'll do it again.

Im sorry but the writers did not show Ed cleaning things up after he shot Izzy as a parallel when he started cleaning up after Stede left him so people could still say that he was healing and actually fine in s1ep10

#as much as I complain about s2 episodes 1-3 had a lot of genuinely strong moments #that should have been built upon rather than swept under the rug #by not acknowledging those episodes it did such a disservice to Ed #like listen izzy did step out of line #but I think that Ed was also like going to veer into self-destruction regardless #and by izzy doing that he became a target #which I don't think Ed would have done otherwise #izzy hands #like ed had izzy get rid of most of the crew and then after that Izzy was taking all the damage #it was only in ep 3 after ed thought izzy was dead that he ended up actually trying to harm the crew #ed critical #i guess? not really criticizing anything but I know sometimes things get misinterpreted and I'd just rather not have that happen
