About the thing you posted with the “why do people show emotional vulnerability on tumblr” or whatever, like

Some of us don’t have anyone to talk to irl. Some of us can only discuss certain things on here, and it’s like… maybe a stupid way, but a way to try and show the people who’re hurting you “hey there’s a human behind this screen”. Idk. I know it’s not healthy but… I don’t know what to do. I’d feel like just keeping quiet about it means betraying myself somehow.

Totally! And I think there's a huge difference between "showing vulnerability"- a normal and very healthy thing to do- and what I was talking about, i.e., depending mostly or completely on the validation you may or may not receive when you turn to Whoever Sees Your Blog At The Time for vital emotional support.

The reason I bring this up at all is because I've seen a lot of people do this kind of thing in various ways; I still can't really wrap my head around why so many people want to vent about urgent mental/emotional crises in a public Discord server, for example. Not that it's not understandable, or that people who genuinely don't have anyone else to turn to are doing anything wrong, or, obviously, that everyone in those situations in the first place is doing anything wrong by being in them.

The thing is, it's almost never actually productive or healthy. I would wager that a lot of people going into it know it's not productive or healthy, or at least isn't likely to be. For some of them, that's probably the point.

It's a bunch of random strangers. It's people you don't know, and can't predict the responses of. It's people who don't know you, even if you're honest in how you present yourself to them, because they don't have any kind of mutual relationship or vested interest in you as a friend.

So the possible outcomes, when you do this kind of thing, are:

Someone with a parasocial relationship to you thinks they know you as a person enough to provide the support you need, which maybe feels comforting, but likely is not actually useful in the long term coming from someone you literally don't know. It's hollow, because it isn't backed by a meaningful and mutual relationship.

Someone who feels generally invested in The Health And Safety Of People, As A Whole, sends some generalized validation. Again, this is likely comforting to some degree, but it is ultimately lacking in meaningful and knowledgeable support.

People ignore you, either because they don't see it, they don't know how to respond and are afraid of making things worse, or they don't have the time and energy to provide support to a stranger. You likely feel hurt, alone, and ignored by this.

Someone actively malicious uses your signalling or emotional vulnerability as an opportunity to be more effectively cruel and to cause more pain.

Or, the less common but still damaging outcome:

5. Someone reaches out in a genuine attempt to provide support, establishes a longer-lasting connection. Because this began as one person providing emotional support for another, it likely turns into a one-sided co-dependant relationship in which the two of you only ever talk when you need help in a time of crisis. (This likely burns them out over time, they are forced to cut things off for their own mental health, and you're left feeling even more alone than before.)

Look, I don't want to imply here that there's something wrong with being honest about how you feel, the fact that you're hurting or in crisis, etc. Emotional vulnerability is important! It's also not the same as relying on the responses you get from total strangers when you display that vulnerability. We need better, stronger, more permanent emotional support systems than that in order to survive. That's how people are built.

And there's nothing wrong with being in a position where you feel strangers are the only people you can reach out to at all. I'd still encourage anyone in that place to reach out to strangers over nobody, if it's all they have.

But that's a temporary fix. It's a band-aid. You go into it knowing there are risks, and you work to establish better long-term emotional support systems over time so you don't have to gamble your mental health on the reactions of The Public every time you need help. It's better than nothing, please use it if you don't have better options, but it's still a band-aid.

💛Alright, so the two of you had just got done making some pastries and you were making a few more. While you were cooking Nimh decided to eat a few cupcakes from the batch you just made. He didn’t notice the icing on his lips, but you did.

💛Once you licked his lipped he felt as though his body was just gonna start gyrating with how fast his heart was racing. He was stuttering at least 60mph. “D-d-d-d-did you j-j-just lick m-my-???!!!?!” But he would be lying if he said he didn’t like it.

💛He would be really red for the rest of the day, but he would kiss you a whole lot more and just be more affectionate overall. He really wants you to do it again, but doesn’t tell you. He’d probably put some more icing on his lips and say “Oh my how did this icing get on my lips? Could you get if for me..?” He would say it loudly to.

Volks

🖤Alright, so you we’re doing the baking, and Volks just watched and ate a few pastries. You made some cream puffs and Volks decided to have one. It was pretty messy, thus causing him to get some cream on his lips. That you decided was delicious.

🖤You’d have to kinda have to be sneaky about because if you weren’t and he noticed, he’d probably jump back lol. But let’s say you did, he would be blushing so god dang much. He would kinda just freeze for a moment, but would cover it up with a chuckle. “Did you really want a cream puff, or did you just want to get free kiss?”

🖤I would bet money that he would try to do it back. Would CONSTANTLY try to offer you any pastry that icing, cream, frosting, literally anything. Just to get you back. However, if you keep declining the pastries he’d just French kiss you and give up lmao.

Kelby

🧡Similar to Volks he wouldn’t be baking with you, probably because he would set the whole house on fire if he tried. Anyways, you had just finished making some cupcakes and Kelby decided to try one. Halfway through eating the cupcake, you notice some delicious frosting on his lips.

🧡Once you licked the frosting off his lips he would let out his manliest scream and probably start blushing. However, he would actually be pretty chill about it right after. He’d kiss you back and tell you how cute you are. “Man! You’re as sweet as the frosting on that cupcake, both were amazing. However you were a whole lot better!”

🧡He’d try to get you to have one and see if you get frosting on your lips. If you did he would definitely try and lick the frosting off your lips. He’d honestly think the whole thing was really cute and super sweet of you.

Scale

💚It took a lot of convincing for him to even be IN the kitchen with you. It wasn’t out of spite or anything, he just doesn’t want anything sneaky or bad happening. But you managed and you happened to make some chocolate soufflé and he just so happened to get some chocolate on his lips.

💚You would have to sneak up on him, and be smart about it to. He’d probably think you were trying to jump him or something. Well once you licked that chocolate off his lips he crashed. He’d honestly be impressed to, not many people can surprise him like that.

💚He’d start blushing, but he’d also appreciate and think it’s very cute. He would also constantly try to get you back, and he would, trust me. Once he did he would be over the moon. However, he would advise you not to sneak up on him like that again because he wouldn’t wanna accidentally hurt you with his reflexes.

Cole

🖤He would be glad to join you in baking, anytime with you, is good time. He’d also be super happy to try one of the pastries you made him: Cream puffs! However when he was eating it got a little messy, and you just so happens to notice some cream on his lips.

🖤Similar to Scale, he’d be a little difficult to lick the cream off of, but not as hard as Scale. Generally cause he lets his guard around you when the two of you are in the house. But anyways, he’d be a little taken aback. However, he would immediately chuckle and start smirking at you. “My, dear if you wanted me that back you could’ve just asked.. However, I’m not upset by it, you should do it again in fact..”

🖤He would try and get you back first, only one time and if he didn’t he’d give up. Only because he’d want you to do it again though, he reeaaallly like how intimate it was. Also, he’d probably pepper your face with kisses after you licked the cream off his lips.

Cashew

🤎He’d want to cook with you, but wouldn’t because he doesn’t know how. However he would gladly stay in the kitchen and watch, maybe he’d even catch on! You decided to make something easy and make some cupcakes which he decided to try! After he ate the first one you noticed the frosting on his lips.

Honestly, I’m not sure if I can write this AU. With confidence I mean. I already got like a 15k word outline going on and it’s still going and it’s been like that for the past 3 years. Yeah. Pretty crazy. But if I can’t write this then I might resort into posting a bulleted list on what I should’ve written in the betterment of those 3 years instead of making a long ass outline to get it out into the world.

I love this AU, you have no idea, but it is so hard to write. So bear with me. I’ll give a bit of insight into it.

• This is a canon divergence of the canon timeline where instead of Bryan taking the hit, it’s Molten taking the hit. (My guy is not having a great time. Both of them.)

• This AU is canon defiant to the actual lore in Bryan’s series. A lot actually. This is a bit more canon compliant to the Fnaf storyline. Focusing more on spirits and souls than portals and portal magic. Soul juice produced from murdered children. All that good stuff. Don’t get me wrong, I love the series but I wish it focused on the souls of the kids and their stories if only a little.

• Let’s say there are a lot of hidden secrets in the old pizzeria that Bryan would carry to his grave. Most of them is guilt. The other is shame borderlining to self loathing.

• “No one would ever believe you.” :)

• This AU’s pov is also on the animatronics side. Mostly Freddy, Helpy (the old one), and maybe probably Foxy (the Rockstar one) I miss them, okay?

• Pat is around too. Watching over the animatronics while getting deathly afraid of them for a definite period of time before making friends with them because wow, those robots aren’t actually gonna force them into a Freddy Fazbear suit. Why did they listen to a pre-recorded message anyway?

• Jon is the one that stumbles onto the secret. But its not complete. He wonders where he should find the other pieces.

• You know OG Freddy? How he was repaired? Yeah. That part wasn’t the only thing that brought him back to life.

• And the monitor Lefty stole from the pizzeria? Maybe Egg Baby? Wonder whats that for?

• The book that Bryan gave to Twisted Bonnie also changed. Still has the blueprints of the animatronics but of different animatronics.

• “Hmmmm, I wonder what I can do for Baby’s birthday? How can I make it her happiest day of her shortlived li—wait, can I even say that?????”

• Also, does anyone know what happened to Twisted Freddy? Did he just become the wind or what? We’ll see.

• Since Lefty didn’t die, let’s say Shadow Freddy had other places to be. And Twisted Wolf? Honestly forgot about that guy hahaha I’ll think of something.

• Oh! EB (Evil Bryan) is there too! Like actually.

• It’s quite funny to have two short humans going on offense while literal monsters go on support and defense lmao. What a bunch of losers.

Aubrey’s having the best time of her life.

Well, not exactly the best, but compared to the absolute shitshow of the week that she’d just had, yeah, this is pretty great.

She sips her tea. It is the yearly Bella reunion “that does not exclude previous or new Bellas” and Aubrey is amused with the way things are going. In particular, things with the way the two Bella co-captains are skirting around each other.

She had known that Beca and Chloe would eventually end up together. It is only a matter of time, as they say, for things that are so obvious that it is actually kind of painful to think about. Because how can something so obvious be so difficult for two people to understand? 

Apparently very, Aubrey answers for herself, as she smiles fondly at the little snort of laughter that her longtime best friend, Chloe, lets out at the joke that tiny but actually proven to be pretty okay Beca made. They appear to be engaged in some sort of game, a game where one of them is trying to see how long it would take for the other to look at them directly in the eyes.

The record is pointing Beca to be the loser. She’d already glanced Chloe’s way more than twice, both of which she was lucky in that Chloe was paying attention to something else. Aubrey finds it hilarious that all it takes is one wrong (or right?) turn for them to both be essentially eye-fucking. 

Someone sidles up next to her chair. “So, what’s been going on these days?”

Aubrey tilts her head to the side enough to let Emily know that she is listening without taking her eyes off the show. “Oh, nothing much. Just busy. You?”

Emily says something similar, and then there is silence for a few beats before she continues. “I’m worried about you.”

“What?” Aubrey puts down her tea, rotates fully to the side. “Why?”

Emily appears to be nervous, as though she had not expected Aubrey to be so serious in taking in that comment nor herself to voice it in the first place. “Because you’re distant. You don’t talk in the group chat anymore, and when you do, it’s only for generic purposes. And I know that you’re busy, what with your new job and your dad and stuff, but I just can’t help the feeling that something is off, y’know?”

Dang. Aubrey is a little bit taken aback. Out of all the people that she has in her life, Emily is the person who is calling her out on her closed-offedness? Even her own best friend, whom she calls routinely every two days, has not said a word about how she is struggling to make ends meet between her personal life and social one. 

Or maybe that is the issue, Aubrey realizes, as Chloe whines about how Beca is being an idiot in trying to get her to spill how the disaster at the gym went to all the Bellas, she is relying too much on other people to get her to open up about how she is feeling. Other people have their lives too, and realistically, the hard but unfortunate truth is that their lives do not revolve around Aubrey’s.

It’s about time that she needs to figure out what she wants by herself, without expecting an outside force to push her.

“Yes, actually,” Aubrey replies, rising from her seat to guide Emily into the living room. “There are a few obstacles in my life lately that are making me feel off. Do you mind if I discuss them with you?”

And Emily may be the last person with whom she thought she would share her worries and insecurities to, but she is the first one that Aubrey can utilize as an example to live up to her own potential. 

Even if they are not the stars of the show.

Part 1 in the CutCat Reviews Beatles Albums series, and what better place to start than the beginning?

Dang... they were sure Baby Bugs back then!

I ain't yet listened to every song on this here album, so this'll be interesting and strangely new, haha (Though I should disclaim that I'll be listening to the highest quality versions I can find on YT, so some will be innately more advantaged than others)

SIDE ONE

I Saw Her Standing There: One, Two, Three, FAUWH!! While part'a me raises eyebrows at "Well she was just 17, and you know what I mean" part (which is also somewhat mitigated by their own youth at the time! lol), the rest is such a fun, high energy bit of Rock n Roll that I enjoy this quite a bit, and it makes a great energetic opening to the album to boot!

Misery: A sad song set to jaunty music, if I didn't understand English I'd prolly miss that detail XD - Though I defo prefer said upbeat instrumentations to the otherwise kind of stock breakup song

Anna (Go To Him): Ahh, our first cover! Not keen on their harmonies here, something sounds Off. The song itself is fine, but as they didn't write it I won't be going into much about the words :P

Chains: Harmonica! Another cover so I'm gonna skip the lyrics, but the instruments and harmonies are on good display here~ I'm sorry to say I didn't notice it was George on vocals until I checked though, sorry! ^^;;

Boys: Ringo's turn with a cover!! He puts a lotta energy into this, and I like that they didn't change it to Girls or something instead lmao - His range works well for this, there's great guitar and Paul screaming in the background too, but the lyrics themselves don't stick in my mind much, it seems to be mostly "Talk about Boys, [Yeah Yeah Boys]"

Ask Me Why: We leave the sea of Covers for this side, for a lot of stringing out single words lmao, it kinda feels like an inverse of Misery, being much lower key but being Glad, though again the lyrics ain't really making a strong impression on my memory so when I get to the next side I doubt I'll be able to recall it well

Please Please Me: NOW WE'RE TALKING, BAYBEE! The words may be cheeky and arguably shallow, but it's got such energy and rhythm that I really do feel motivated to stand and move in response! The instruments all do a strong job here, and I think I actually first heard this as an instrumental and knew I needed to check it out more lmao. I can't think why Love Me Do got the #1 and this didn't, man!!

SIDE TWO

Love Me Do: I do not care for this song! Objectively it has a lovely bass, nice steady drums and impressive harmonica. But URGHHHH I cannot stick the vocals saying such inane, repetitive words! I feel like this is the only Beatles song that Beatle Haters hear, and form their entire opinion on. I can't fathom how it reached a #1 slot, other than it having been an exceedingly slow period for Tunes, or maybe the mouth organ really WAS that novel?! But when playing the Number Ones CD I always, always skip it, and even the newest version with the Now and Then release fails to win me over. And Ringo ain't even the drummer here!!

P.S. I Love You: Really benefits from following LMD, lmaoooo. It's a nice little tune with some instrument I can't identify (castanets?). I feel like From Me To You kinda does the long distance thing better, but there's a nice rhythm and harmonies that make this pleasing. It's also not Ringo drumming, again - no offence to Andy White, but y'ain't one'a the Lads! :T

Baby It's You: We're back in the Cover Realm. This song is nice. When I first heard the "Cheat" I thought they were saying "Shit" though, which I think woulda made it better XD ...15 mins after listening to it I have no memory of how it sounds :v

Do You Want To Know A Secret: In original and George territory! Gotta say the "secret" was extremely predictable :P The music is perfectly nice, but it doesn't strike me as Beatles Standard, ya know? That applies to a fair few on this album, not just this, but it's now that I really Am Thinking it ^^;;;

A Taste Of Honey: Cover! Less to say! They do good! When I listen to it my brain tries turning it more into a meme song, like it goes "A taste of Honey! Tasty!!", so idk what that says about the song itself but it's not the most glowing of reviews lmao

There's A Place: Ahh, the last Original on this album~ Sounds oddly modern in the sense of maladaptive daydreaming...! They really WERE ahead of the time (or having a Mind Palace is old as Hunter Gatherers maybe, both work lol). It's another inoffensive but hard to really talk about number, musically.

Twist And Shout: I've been pretty Cool to all the covers here, but this is quite the exception, and OOOOH IT'S SO RAAAAW (Infamously so, we all know John had to save this one for last as it shredded his vocal chords somewhat!). Another one that actually makes me Move, which is impressive, and it closes the Album on a very strong note~

CONCLUSION

Best 3: I Saw Her Standing There, Please Please Me, Twist And Shout

Blurst 3: Love Me Do, Anna (Go To Him), Baby It's You. [To be honest I kinda wanna put LMD here three times instead, but myeah]

Overall Quality?: It's Decent! In the context of it being their debut album, it's more impressive, but knowing how much the songwriting and music would develop does rather cast this in a long shadow. My 3 faves here are also the only ones* that got Red Album remasterings by the looks of it, and I sure see why they were chosen over the rest (*Though Love Me Do's omnipresence baffles me!)

Tokyo mew mew new season 1 ep 1-6 thoughts!! I'm finally getting around to watching it…I was procrastinating because once ive watched it I'll have to wait for season 2 -w-;; but I had to watch it this weekend since all of november ill be busy with nanowrimo! obv, spoilers under the cut, but this is basically an informal liveblog as I watch. only 1-6 for now, since im abt to leave to take my nephew trick or treating, ill prob watch the rest tomorrow tho! <3

EP 1

Ichigo's VA is So Good. -high schoolers instead of middle schoolers!! -Ichigo seeing aoyama all sweaty with his hair in that…helmet wrap thingy and STILL crushing on him is incredible. bc thats probably him at his Sweatiest, LMAO. (his awkward lil wave…PLS. theyre both so CUTE) -THE OPENING MADE ME CRY. LOOK AT THEM ALL. It's so dang CUTE. -Ichigo's friends new hairstyles are super cute -MINT!! -ICHIGO'S FRIENDS BEING SO SUPPORTIVE and getting their own character aspirations?? thats unexpected and cool! -love how they kept the animation so SILLY -mint hiding behind a tree and being annoyed at this hetero nonsense. queen of stealth -ichigo and her friends basically snooping for INFO. THATS NEWS TO ME -Ichigo shaking masha's wing was so cute -cryptids are just chimera anima….new lore drop………..im shook. mothman is real in tmm universe. -ryou insisting hes NOT being a creep and having no concept of social norms while doing things ichigo 100% finds weird/creepy…dare I headcanon him as autistic? bc same king! -yeah something about them letting her be mew ichigo the entire ride to the cafe when she couldve changed back anytime was HILARIOUS -ryou telling ichigo shes important becaUSE SHES A BIOWEAPON. ONCE AGAIN HAVING NO CLUE ABOUT SOCIAL ETTIQUTE. THIS IS HOW AUTISTIC RYOU CAN WIN -'when i woke up I was already home!' bro are u not even worried about that? at all? if I passed out in public and woke up at home I would have. EP 3: -dont know if ive said it yet but the cafe bg characters are always really cute -ichigo being BAFFLED at mint being Nice to Lettuce jkhkjad -'the animals at the zoo arent anything special' girl anyone who turns down a zoo date is weak and will succumb to natural selection. zoos are so fun tf -ichigo worrying aoyamas not having fun…girl hes an introvert and ur energy is A LOT and hes prob flustered. let him LIVE -I love being proven right 0.2 seconds later after I type something. him getting flustered/nervous and holding Ichigo bc of it. shes his emotional support cat i am LIVING -then him being SUPRISED he was even nervous aww…theyre so CUTE -him immediately infodumping abt cats body temps. another autistic king but I KNEW that in my heart already -goddamn theyre so cute -pudding being the ultimate dateblock queen. here for her energy tho -puddings energy during the unconsentual kiss was WRONG tho. ichigo being abt to cry abt it…death to kish for 1000 years -is there a lore reason that cat protected aoyama? do normal animals like…instincutally wanna fight chimera anima/sense theres smth wrong with them? EP 4: -ryou with his goddamned square window, again. im having a FIT -his room IS kinda sad. damn -im sorry, I swear they also described zakuro as having black hair in the og anime, but WHERE. its PURPLE -mint still gay. good. shes such a lil fangirl -her gay fantasy of hugging zakuro and having a Moment with her lmao. girl same -mint knocking ichigo out of her fantasy to turn around and freak out abt there being lint on her clothes and she cant let zakuro see that. then ichigo sayin she understands the feeling. how else could this possibly be interupted except ichigo being the best ally -LETTUCE GETTING THE ROLE OF ROCK I AM LOSING MY MIND -the knight mint/ichigo prince dynamic. EP 5: -so all the bg charas at the cafe are girls. it makes it look like a lesbian superhub -mints Super Okay facade HURTS. she should be allowed to be lazy -I burst out laughing when they showed micky. why he look like that lmao -mint's brother has more than like 2 speaking lines, I am Shocked -pjs……cute -and pillow fight….they are all so cute ARGH Im literally getting cuteness agression fromw watching this -this is how ichimint can still win (theyre being cute at a sleepover and talking abt their feelings) -mints whole thing with her family and also recongizing she doesnt really KNOW zakuro. omg. they added so much depth im so happy…that whole mint monologe was so GOOD -god kishu calling mickey annoying. if he turned MY YAPPY little dog into a monster it would be on sight. mint should get rights to maul him right after ichigo does. i love yappy little dogs. WHERE /DID/ THOSE COME FROM IS THIS A PUN IM NOT UNDERSTANDING -glam lettuce is everything. i love watching them SCHEME TOGETHER -performer squad mews is so iconic -thinking abt mints fierce gaze while ur singing ur power ballad, huh, zakuro?? thats kinda gay. -ichigo's kitty phone. cute -this fucking security guard is having the worst day of his career LMAO -my god, mint just awakened zakuro as a lesbian LMAO zakuro has been hanging on her every word and theyre inspiring each other…ITS REAL. TH GAYS MUSTVE EATEN THIS UP AS IT AIRED. IM THE GAYS -mint and zakuro's respect and love feels a lot more balanced in this version, which I love -kish makes some feral ass faces -kish being SHOCKED zakuro would join the fight?? sir youre the one bringing the chimera to them to awaken all of them! youre doing that! what did u expect! -how did the live camera not catch zakuro transforming? how does no one recongize them!! esp zakuro!! she looks!! the SAME!!!! "no. youre right on time." scene, and then it ends w ghirahim saying hes "far too quick" at the end of the game. what im getting at is that hes trying so, so hard throughout the game to be the hero zelda needs, and he gets better and better and better (albeit at his own expense). i DO think the impa scene was the major turning point and fucked up his view of himself ("why would i need to take care of myself when she still needs to be saved?") but point is. he is trying so hard. yes hed be tired and itd almost certainly be self imposed but sleepy? LAZY??? did you play the game past the opening .

Yeah, software development makes my brain hurt mostly because of the unrealistic deadlines and expectations. Imagine asking nine doctors to pull out a baby from a lady who’s one month pregnant. It's like ?????. Personally, I try to speak up about it (saying it's just not realistic) BUUTTT I'm typically the most junior in my team and though everyone secretly agrees with me, they just try to get it done by the deadline. Yeah, that didn't make sense but I hope you're getting the jist of what I'm trying to say. It's what I hate about when I first entered the field as a full-timer (they protect you from this kind of stuff as an intern).

How long does one coding exercise generally takes ? Like 2/3 hours at least ? Depending on how hard it is ?

I’m not sure if you’re asking for one question or the entire challenges so I’ll answer both. In my experience, it depends on the question asked lolol. There were times I was able finish three problems in twelve minutes and there were times I couldn’t even finish one question. The timed ones usually only give you 1-2 hour(s) because intensity you know? 

The last exercise I did took me around six to seven hours. It wasn’t like a typical coding challenge but you had to explain a project you built entirely by yourself on a technical level and then they basically asked you how you would build a X system (ex/ "How would you build Twitter?", "How would you build a hotel reservation system?"). There wasn’t any word limit or time limit and I figured it was better to put more (it's the safer option). I figured it would also be useful for future interviews since a lot of times they ask you to explain a project you’ve worked on or how you would build X system.

AHHH and you’re a double major? Dang. If you don’t mind asking, what’s the second major?

Yeah I did a double major for 2 years ! Here completing the major takes 3 years and you have to validate each year.

I did law and art history. Most people in my promo wanna be auctioneers. (Its the reason why this double major was created lol) But I personnaly don't wanna be an auctioneer and I hate law lol its making me feel really bad mentally wise.

We have this opportunity for our 3rd year to continue (and suffer even more), or drop one and validating the first major and lets say you take another year to validate the other. So you have two majors in 4 years instead of 6 which is good.

growing up with tsukishima had been a whirlwind of experiences. ever since you had moved and transferred to his school the last year of primary school, you’d been drawn to him. the tall, blonde kid with glasses. you found his pride in volleyball admirable, and you even found him to be so much cooler than you ever would be.

you originally didn’t know anybody when you first moved, but you fit right in with both tsukishima and his own friend. it was a strange combination, but it worked somehow. while tsukishima was rude, and yamaguchi timid, you were loud and energetic. you were lively. you challenged him just for the fun of it, you poked and prodded, just having fun being around him.

you were his self-declared best friend.

looking back on it, you probably always had feelings for tsukishima. back in those days when you tried to get into volleyball yourself. wanting to be like him, you tried your best, but you weren’t all that good. he would make fun of you for it, but you weren’t bothered by settling for being supportive of him and your freckled friend. You were just as passionate as they were about it.

you were even there when that passion jaded. watched as he stared at his brother from across the game.

it was when you started junior high, that you came to the conclusion that you were in love with your friend. but unlike most people, you did nothing to hide it. why would you? you were always open, always honest and straight to the point. you just weren’t one to hide that.

“go out with me, tsukki!” you poked his side with a cheeky grin, your eyes bright. your friend wasted no time in rejecting you.

“no.”

“aw, you sure?”

“i would never date somebody so stupidly annoying.” you shook off the blatant insult, laughing instead with your hand on your neck. a small thing you picked up from your other friend. yamaguchi.

it went on like that all throughout your remaining years until high school. a constant back and forth that became a schedule at that point.

it was decided that tsukishima would be going to karasuno, as would yamaguchi. and so would you. you would go where they go, you’d never thought about leaving them both. you’d stay with them as long as possible, holding on to their friendship like it was your lifeline..

and holding onto tsukishima even more so.

you were there with them on the first day, when they joined volleyball club. that first practice match against aoba johsai.

you weren’t always watching their practices, since you had your own club duties to attend to of course. but you always made sure to stop by the clubroom while the boys were getting ready, just to say hi to everyone and to a certain someone.

“hey, hey!” you poked your head from around the door, waving a hand. the team greeted you cheerfully enough, minus tsukishima. who looked annoyed to no end.

“tsukki, wanna go grab something to eat after your practice? i know a really great spot!”

he didn’t even look at you, only giving you the middle finger.

you laughed, shrugging. “worth a try.”

the first time the team had witnessed your very forward approach to asking the extremely salty and crude boy out, they were surprised. the way he turned you down so effortlessly too, threw them off. the added shock of anybody even liking him was the cherry on top.

“is this normal?” sugawara asked, a chuckle falling from his lips. asahi was beside him, sweatdropping at the sight of your affectionate display, and tsukishima’s obvious lack of reciprocation.

yamaguchi smiled awkwardly, nodding. “well- yeah, actually. It’s been happening for years.”

“i’d kill to have somebody all over me like that! lucky bastard!” tanaka held his fist up dramatically, as if clenching his heart in it. he even had a tear in the corner of his eye.

“well then, i’ll be on my way! good practice, everyone!” you chirped, finally leaving them.

“l/n’s got some serious determination.” tanaka whistled.

“misplaced determination. they won’t shut up about dating, it’s annoying.” tsukishima didn’t sound as impressed as his loud senpai was.

yamaguchi tilted his head to the side. “really? i would’ve thought tha-”

“shut up.”

a small laugh. “sorry, tsukki.”

it would forever continue, it seemed like. you never thought you’d give it up, you always knew that you liked tsukishima. your heart would pound, your stomach would feel fluttery. but even though you’ve been with him since you were children, it didn’t seem like he’d grown to feel the same. it would get you down sometimes, his mean and harsh words whenever you’d bring it up. either casually, or intentionally.

you couldn’t help being so hopelessly whipped!

you were walking down the sidewalk with yamaguchi and tsukishima, humming along to a new song that had been dropped recently. you were so into it, strumming your fingers like you were the one playing in the recording. tsukishima watched you with critical eyes, but yamaguchi watched as if this was entertaining.

“new song, l/n?” yamaguchi asked you, and you paused the music. you nodded right away, grinning.

“yeah! there’s this kind of new band I found a bit ago, i think around the time you guys met nekoma for that first practice match? their music is so cool!” you could go on and on about them, to be honest. they may be small, and very underground, but you liked them anyways.

“wahh, they sound cool- right, tsukki?” yamaguchi and you both looked behind at him, faces expecting the same sentiment.

he only scoffed.

you roll your eyes playfully, sidling up to him for the first time today. “you want to go get some ice cream, tsukki?” you wished, hoped for him to just say yes for once. your heart was begging at this point.

with a defeated sigh, you walked a few steps quicker, before unpausing the music. the humming resumed, and yamaguchi glanced back and forth between you both with a weary expression.

interhigh had come, taking up your friend’s time with it. you were upset that they’d be so busy now, but with the new tournament coming, came a new student.

you were embarrassed as your new favorite band’s music started blasting out of the phone’s speakers, and you hurried to turn it off. You were blushing, laughing at yourself as you went to go sit back down.

ahh, dang! everyone heard that! you were just laughing at yourself in your head now.

there was a tap on your desk, and you turned your face towards the hand. it was the new kid, and his face looked bright.

“you listen to my band’s music?” he whispered to you, his face beaming, and you gasped quietly.

“is this you?” you pointed at your pocket, where your phone rested. he nodded.

“that’s so- wow, i go to school with one of the people in my favo-”

“l/n, do you have something to say about the lecture?”

you shook your head violently, holding back a huge grin. “n-no, miss!” your teacher sighed, and continued past the interruption.

the looks you both shared didn’t go unnoticed by tsukishima.

everyday now, you were hanging around the new kid. you had come to learn his name, which was ishiwaka teruo. you both had hit it off instantly, it was like you guys had known each other forever, and not just a few weeks. it was almost like some crazy twist of fate, or luck. you guys were both alike in a lot of ways, held similar passions, too.

“see you, ishi!” you waved a hand, grinning as he waved a goodbye back. you guys didn’t take the same way home, so he ended up leaving the opposite direction, while you walked with tsukishima and yamaguchi. you were humming again, one of ishiwaka’s band’s songs.

“you seem pretty happy, l/n.” yamaguchi chuckled, watching as you danced a little. 

“oh yeah, you bet! ishi actually invited me to sit in for one of his practices, isn’t that so cool? he plays the bass, and he even offered to teach me a few chords. i don’t really mess with instruments, but-”

“can you shut up about him? all you do is just yap on and on about this guy, hanging out with him isn’t enough for you? what’s so special anyways?” his tone was harsh, and condescending. “if you’re just going to talk about him all the time, i’m not walking with you guys anymore.” your eyes widened as soon as you heard what tsukishima had just said. your heart was pounding, like it had been caught in the act of something terrible. you even felt slightly ashamed.

“wow, nice, tsukki. sorry for being excited about something.” you muttered, clutching your bag straps tight. what did you expect at this point? he didn’t like you as much as you thought, if he was so ready to just leave you behind. yamaguchi sensed the tension between you both, which made him uncomfortable.

you were all quiet for the rest of the way home.

interhigh came and went, the loss against aoba johsai stung the volleyball team, leaving their spirits broken, and cracked. you hadn’t been to the game that day, busy with a certain band member. and your missing presence hadn’t been looked over.

“where were you?” tsukishima had confronted you in the hallways, while you were walking with ishiwaka to the water fountain. it was break, which meant he could freely talk to you now.

you looked away from him, a nervous air around you that wasn’t like you at all.

“i’m sorry i couldn’t make it, tsukki- i heard that you guys lost, and i’m really sorry i couldn’t have been there!” your words were careful and slow, like you were thinking on how to say the right thing to him.

the blonde closed his eyes, and looked off to the side. he didn’t look pleased in the slightest. “were you with your precious band member? like some kind of groupie.” 

ishiwaka raised an eyebrow, and you just shook your head. tsukishima was really doing this right now? you said sorry, what else were you supposed to say?

“you know what, yeah. i was with him. it’s not like..it’s not like i have to be around you or yamaguchi every second of the day, okay?” you sighed. “look, i’ll make it to your next practice, and skip my club activities. is that fine?”

he hesitated, before giving you a curt nod. you smiled in relief. “great! i’ll see you then. now, about that specific measure-”

you had left him behind, and tsukishima had been hit with a realization.

you hadn’t mentioned going on a date at all. not today, not even within the past few weeks. was something wrong with you? he’d gotten so used to that, but now even that wasn’t a constant.

it was like you were slipping away from him, day by day.

and he realized that he didn’t like that.

as the days went on, thoughts about this ran rampant through his mind. it was maddening, he was trying to focus on school, and now, as he was walking to the clubroom, volleyball. he was scarily silent, and yamaguchi caught onto it right away.

“tsukki?” he asked quietly, not wanting to push. but he wanted to know. ever since tsukishima had come back from break that day, he’d been acting strange. he was even saltier, if that was possible.

“am i not enough for l/n?” he spit out the question, like it was a disease.

taken aback, the freckled boy could only blink. the two stopped walking, looking right at each other now. “what?”

tsukishima barked out a laugh, running a hand over his face in frustration. “you heard me, yamaguchi.”

yamaguchi’s jaw dropped. “do you miss them?” was he for real? was this jealousy actually coming from tsukishima?

“hell if i know.” he muttered. but he knew the answer, and that’s what upset him.

“i knew it. tsukki, why did it have to be now, though?” he shook his head in disbelief. at the utter obliviousness of this boy. yamaguchi knew himself that there was something there in tsukishima, something resembling feelings for you. but of course it was when you were no longer always around that he saw it.

“what?”

“l/n isn’t a puppy anymore, they’re not following after you. if you haven’t noticed, they’ve given up. you need to do this yourself, and fix it.” yamaguchi stated. he wouldn’t be lying if he said that he’d been frustrated with the back and forth between you both, it was so obvious to him, but apparently not obvious to tsukishima. or you, for that matter.

“i know that.” he muttered. he would have to confront you about this. was he stupid? why didn’t he get this before? 

“then do something about it.”

tsukishima was quiet.

it was decided by him that he’d catch you outside of practice, since you said you’d be coming to watch. it was a quick, and impulsive decision from him, but he needed this to be figured out. his head was at it’s most unclear, and that was affecting him.

you were affecting him.

he looked around the outside of the gym, trying to see if he could spot you coming. it took a minute, before he saw a figure off to the side. it was you, he could tell by that bag anywhere. he stepped out, only to be met with the full picture.

you were with ishiwaka, and you were kissing him.

tsukishima hurried back into the gym with a stone-cold expression. oh. so this is where he stood now.

no longer at the top of your list, no longer important.

you walked into the gym, beaming. it angered tsukishima, more than he should have been. he yanked your arm, and held you by them with a vice grip. you looked up at your friend with nervous, maybe even scared eyes. you hadn’t seen tsukishima like this before.

“what is he to you?”

you blinked. “wh-what?”

“who is he to you? that little bass player.” his eyes were searching yours, for anything, anything that he could hold on to. you didn’t respond, only looking away from his intense stare.

your eyes didn’t hold that same look that they used to whenever you looked at him. 

he had his answer. and he didn’t like it. so he let go of you, maybe for real this time. things had changed so much, right under his nose. and he had let it happen.
